I am thinking so hard about Dolcetto adopts Nina AU but specifically in a modern AU context. Dolcetto, collector of swords, bouncer and bartender at Greed's queer night club, not especially personable, and his beloved kindergarten-age daughter. He drops her off at school every morning and tucks her into bed. None of the other Devil's Nest members really understand how this happened or how Dolcetto started doing the fatherhood thing, but they absolutely spoil her. Greed brings her out for ice cream, Roa reads her books, Bido does coloring pages, and Martel walks her to the park. And Ed and Al are her babysitters :)

and so...

we start the beginning arc! this takes place a year before fmab/manga canon starts, so tsukasa is 14 while saki is 13. this also takes place in the 03 variant but in a different place in the timeline.

it's very rare that mustang insists on tsukasa coming into the office despite the teen insulting him. tsukasa has come to know he means serious business when he does that. perhaps a new lead on the philosopher's stone? it has been a few months since they've gotten one...

as it turns out, it's not a new lead but a new mission. one that needs all hands on deck.

there has been strange disappearances happening in a town just five hours north of east city. they all take place in a certain radius from the most prestigious school of the arts in the eastern region of amestris and all of them are students who come from outside towns. the team has been assigned to investigate the school and surrounding areas to find the cause of the disappearances.

fuery has been assigned to stage as an intern who works for a group that is experimenting with commercial radio broadcasting for the public.

falman is to be working as the new receptionist in the local bookstore after the old one passed away.

breda becomes an archivist at the library just outside of the radius of disappearances.

havoc is now an apprentice for the only carpenter in town.

hawkeye finds herself as an assistant for the tailor closest to the school.

mustang (the prick) is now the new science teacher at the school.

and tsukasa... tsukasa is now a student at the most prestigious school of the arts in the east.

now, the thing about this school is that it's unusually strict for a school of the arts. even the entrance process is strangely strict. they also only allow the same number of students of either gender to attend.

tsukasa thinks that mustang is fucking with him. why? well it's quite simple. they weren't allowing any more boys to apply for the school, the max number was already reached. girls however? they still had a chance at getting tsukasa into the school. and they did. by using the girls application.

so not only does tsukasa have to go to school again after so long, he also has to attend as a girl. which she hasn't done in years. not to mention he'll have to pose as havoc and hawkeye's younger sister. is it too late to grab saki and get on a train to anywhere but east city?

There are medications that Typhon often has to take in the mornings, or else he kinda goes through it for the day. The castle servants always have to goad him through various means to have him take them.

Echidna is a fan of the finer things in life--fancy dresses and jewels and dances and balls. She enjoys all the perks that comes with being a royal, and it's because of this that she refused the throne. She loves her freedom far too much.

Okay so here's my take:

This doesn't necessarily mean that they didn't go to Ketterdam.

If they survived, I imagine that they'd both get jobs this time so they could get money faster and get somewhere to rent out at a boarding house.

As Kaz gets older (about 15), he would go to Ketterdam University to major in Business and bump into Jesper. Now remember, he doesn't carry all of the same traumas as Kaz Brekker, as this is Kaz Rietveld, so he and Jesper would get along *very* quickly. Kaz still knows the risk of putting money on the line, as of what happened to him and Jordie, so he talked Jesper out of going to gamble.

Now, Kaz goes back to the boarding house one night and ends up having a certain discussion with Jordie about a place called The Menagerie. Back in Lij, there were no brothels and pleasure houses, so the idea of the whole thing already screws them the wrong way. Kaz, when he was a bit younger (11-12), had days when he didn't work. so he taught himself how to pick locks in case he or Jordie got locked out of the boarding house one night, mainly so he could slip through a window. Slowly, one at a time, they (as well as Jesper; Brothels aren't very big in Novyi Zem either, so he was on board with this) sneak some of the girls out and onto a cargo ship to The Wandering Isle. One of those girls, is Inej Ghafa.

She decides to not get onto the cargo ship, wanting to be able to get back to Ravka, not The Wandering Isle.

Now, its a few months later, it's Jespers, and they're walking along the docks after having gotten a few drinks, when they see a kid that looks as if he was 12, to be crawling out of the harbor.

This is Wylan Van Eck, or, as he introduces himself, Wylan Hendriks.

Jordie automatically notices the family relation between Wylan and Jan, but says nothing, because, hey, there's probably a reason he left that out.

Jesper offers to let Wylan stay with him for a bit, as Inej was occupying the spare room in the apartment that Jordie and Kaz owned. Now, they were all in on the whole "escaping people from brothels."

A year or so later, Kaz breaks his leg falling off the roof of The Anvil while helping some boys escape from there.

And a year after that, while all of them were 16-17 (21 for Jordie), they move onto The White Rose. The first room they find themselves in belongs to a girl willingly working there to get money while waiting for a trial to get her lover out of Hellgate.

This is where we meet Nina Zenik and Matthias Helvar.

Now, they had been breaking kids out of brothels for *years* now, but that was nothing compared to trying to break into Hellgate.

With his career, Jordie was one of the right-hands to a man on the Merchant Council, and decided to pull some strings, write a forgery or two, and what do you know? Matthias Helvar is released from Hellgate.

And then they all get waffles.

I wanna know what would've happened if Jordie didn't die? Would Kaz still have met the crows- in different circumstances? Would Inej have of been freed from the menagerie?
