Heartstopper headcannon (this is more of a fic, lol):

Nick researches autism after Oliver gets his diagnosis. He learns a lot about the traits, mainly so he can help Oliver but an alarming number of them weirdly resonate with him. In a panic, he rings up imogen and explains the situation, she helps him through it. (Basically Felice & Wilhelm but make it heartstopper) He also explains it to Charlie who comes up with the idea for the 3 of them to talk about it at Nick’s house which is where he never masks.

The 3 of them talk together about it the following weekend. Imogen mentions she's got a few autistic cousins who she's quite close with and knows a bit about it from family. They talk over various traits, Charlie thinking his dad might be nurodivergent. The more they talked about it, the more Nick realised he had autism and potentially another condition, he just wanted to focus on autism.

Nick took the idrlabs autism test. It was clear, based off of the results that Nick was autistic. Imogen realised how much he masked which explained why he was often the first one to go home from hanging out at the weekends, simply so he could recharge.

After imogen and Charlie went home, Nick cuddled up to Nellie and told his mum about potentially being on the spectrum. He showed her his quiz results, she was also astonished how high some of the bars were. She agreed to make a gp appointment.

5 months later, Nick got his official diagnosis. Oliver’s diagnosis had helped him get his own. He bought a sunflower lanyard for particularly bad days as well.

Can we please talk about how overtly autistic Michael is in the new season of heartstopper. And it’s shown as a positive thing and not made fun of at all. It made me so happy and I loved how he was just shown as a character who is there for Tori and not some weird guy no one likes. It meant a lot to me and made me happy stim every time he was on screen.

things i love about heartstopper 15/?

The sound design in the show is so good. (Especially with headphones. If you haven't watched with good headphones you should.) The little details are just so atmospheric and they add so much to the show. The sound of rain. Background conversations in big group scenes. The way the silence/near silence almost always fits the setting (although see note below...). The little sneaker squeak when Charlie moves his foot closer to Nick in the ballroom. The rustle of fabric in a quiet room. The flutter of Tao and Elle's little cartoon butterflies. The rustle of Nick and Charlie's flowers and leaves. The sound of breath. It's not always real-to-life but it makes the scene feel more real. It's so fucking good, you guys. I'd talk about the music, too, but that's a whole post in itself. Main relevant point to this post is there are points where the music moves from diegetic to non-diegetic (or vice versa) and it's so smooth and well-done, and the music chosen for these moments fits the scene and characters so well.

There's one major point that definitely breaks with the general "feels real" pattern: every conversation Nick has in study hall in S2 is so hilariously under-done in terms of sound. It’s just dead silence while Nick or Ben or Charlie talk about very private stuff barely in a whisper that literally everyone in that room definitely heard echoing off the gym walls lol

why tao xu is autistic

this has been in my drafts for a while and it’s midnight when i’m deciding to write this so i’m gonna do my best here:

tao hates change. he says multiple times in the show that he hates things changing. i forget about the graphic novels (side note: most of my points are going to be from the show just because i remember that better and tao had more involvement in the show than he did in the novels)

tao is very blunt in the things he says. when he tells people how he feels about things he doesn’t hold back anything 

he also doesn’t really think about what he says. at charlie’s birthday he doesn’t really consider how charlie will feel if he tells him about nick’s “date” on his birthday.  or another way to look at it is he sees protecting charlie from heartbreak from nick more important than  his birthday party

he has a very strong sense of justice. see above. also he thinks that they should stand up to harry and the other boys who harass them and he acts on the ideology a lot

going off of this, although he doesn’t really pick up on how others might feel about what he says or does, he does act with the best interest of his friends in mind. what he does may not be the best thing for them but he does things with the intention of helping his friends 

kind of touching on things from what i’ve said before, but he doesn’t really pick up on others feelings. he doesn’t fully understand why he shouldn’t have told charlie about nick on his birthday. he doesn’t understand why charlie doesn’t like him standing up to harry. and it takes him a while to pick up on elle’s feelings for him. 

he has a special interest in movies and he’s very particular about them

he’s also very stubborn in his opinions about things and people

his hat appears to be a comfort item in a way. we almost never see him without it

i hope this made sense. i’ll be completely honest that it has been a little bit since i’ve been involved in heartstopper content. but i am going through my drafts and this one has been there for a while. feel free to add on to this with your own thoughts! i’d love to hear them!

Watching today’s youth grow up with characters like Charlie Spring, Nick Nelson, Mike Wheeler, Will Byers, and so many others who are not only creating an entirely new class of fan culture, but setting the stage for long-overdue conversations gives me hope for the future.

They’re placing young men’s mental health center stage and reminding everyone that reaching out for help does not make you weak, it means you’re strong enough to pull yourself out of your darkest moments. I’m honored to live in the era of groundbreaking mainstream television and witness the life-saving conversations taking place around them. Everyone working on these shows (and countless others) are out here saving lives and giving people like me who grew up feeling like a mistake hope. Reminding us that it does get better, if you have the courage to reach out and grab the freedom for yourself.

I listened to the new heartstopper trailer 3 times. We see Isaac once and he exchanges a look with someone. IT'S BETTER NOT BE A LOVE INTEREST. I'm paranoid right now because I physically need Isaac's aroace representation (I know exchanging a friendly look with someone doesn't mean romantic love, I'm just really scared cause he means a lot to me) I LOVE ISAAC. If we don't see him more next season I'll cry, I feel particularly emotional today sorry about that.

I watched the 2013 of the great Gatsby for the first time yesterday, Totally ship Nick and Gatsby. I mean there cool as friends too but also- ❤️.

So my brain just couldn't get over my new interest and mixed it with my main interest glee. And I imagined like who'd play what character in the great Gatsby - So I'm a seblaine shipper, but I didn't try to just do this on purpose, but Blaine kinda seems like a Nick kinda character and they both wear bowties. And hear me out Sebastian as Gatsby '///' it checks out it makes sense in my head.

Oh and I don't just imagine like my favorites in the cast of glee playing other characters, I think of all the important characters in a story when I like it. It just happens Ig because I'm kinda a theater nerd so of course I'm gonna cast my main interest characters as playing other characters in different media who fits best personality wise in my mind xD

people dislike tao because he's not the cute/quirky autistic and is instead the more abrasive/blunt/impulsive type which just goes to show where people fall when they say they "accept" autistic people
