Now that NPMD is officially out, now seems like a good time to crack into this account. So, some lil’ goofy headcanons for the TLiB!

The Lords in Black

Wiggly;

Wiggly often has to keep Pokey in check because he gets too into it (“ Don’t frighten them, Pokey. You nasty boy— “)

—would also like to imagine the reason Infected Alice, Deb, and their friend were not in sync in TGWDLM was because Wiggly was actively berating Pokey and ruining his concentration. (“ Wait. What are we saying. We all have to say the same thing. Let’s get on the same page. I’m here. I’m here. I’m here. “)

If someone actually attempted rubbing his “ belly-well “ or ticking him (in his human form), he would probably laugh while either being interested by their motives/actions or promptly have them absolutely eradicated into the Black and White.

Pokey;

(Human) Pokey keeps his luxurious stage voice, even when mad. but, more-so leans into singing / rhyming when very agitated.

He wants Paul dead in every universe. No matter what. It’s on sight.

He was kinda offended by people calling it " blue shit ".

Nibbly;

Nibbly has an issue with interfering with the other Lords' work, simply because they're hungry. Usually because they haven’t received his Honey Festival sacrifice yet.

Blinky;

He finds human television laughable. Mainly for what mortals find entertaining.

He also " fights " with Nibbly a lot. Only because they prefer to watch, Nib, however, just wants to devour immediately.

Blinky may be the only Lord who blinks, though its not naturally.

Tinky;

He gets very 0’:< when another LiB hurts either one of the Spankoffski’s, especially Ted. Cause they’re “ his playthings ): “. [ Slight inspo from the lovely post below! ]

Tinky's tongue can extend as short or as long as needed, doesn't matter.

Unable to handle being around his brothers after his outburst, Blinky had followed Nibbly back to the dining room to compose himself. They sit together, face to face.

Bliklotep squeezes Nibbly’s offered hands, practically crushing them as he attempts deep breaths. He trembles through gasps.

As soon as the watchers had informed them of the contents of T’noy’s nightmare, something had inexplicably snapped. Too stressed and busy to inquire about it, they shifted their focus to each other. Or, namely, Tinky.

Pokey and Wiggly are helping him calm down, too. He’s going to get better. But if the watchers don’t come back that’s...fine, right?

Bliklotep shakes his head and ends up wiping his tears in his brother’s hair.

Not helping, Nibs.

Nibblenephim hums and rubs his shoulder. Blinky closes his eyes to minimize the strain.

...I hate Him. I know He hurt Tinky, probably the worst, but I also know He did so much worse. I think you were too young t-

I wasn’t.

Blinky peeks up at him curiously. Nibbly rocks them both, tensing.

I don’t have a lot of memories, but I remember how it felt. I was scared...and really hungry. Didn’t know why I couldn’t just leave the Black to eat. I wanted to, a lot of times. Maybe if I’d tried hard enough?

He furrows his brows, tone confused and lost. Bliklotep pulls away to grab his brother’s hands again, shifting them around like he saw Wiggog do. He frowns, taking care to keep his voice slow.

If He had anything to do with that...I don’t know. But you didn’t deserve it either way. Like Tinky didn’t deserve whatever the hell else He did. Pokey didn’t, you didn’t, I...

He winces.

Before he can continue, footsteps practically run down the hall in their direction. Pokey, wearied, peeks through the door, eyes flicking everywhere. He finally sees them and sighs.

Are you two done? Wiggly got him to calm down but I think Tinky’s looking for you.

Hyperfocus took the wheel for several hours ._.

I tabled together all the sequences that were mentioned in this post, and ended up drawing their pentagrams based on the choreography sequences bc idk i feel like it says smth

Depending on how you go about Nibbly's, there is a pentagram in there. But Tinky's is missing one of the points entirely since Pokey never dances his move (also: some of the 'lines' are simultaneous, I just couldn't record myself drawing that)

So uh yeah they all "dance around the pentagram" except Tinky, thanks to Pokey skipping his move after repeating Nibbly's. Tinky is kinda chaotic like that tho

For [1-2-3-4-5] left to right positioning (the lords themselves, not their moves):

Tinky's around the middle (2/3), except in G's PNWBT order

Wiggly's always first, last, or exact centre (1/3/5)

Nib & Blinky are next to exact centre (2/4), except in F (1 & 5) - never 3rd, never next to each other

Pokey's usually first or last (1/5), except in F (4) - never 3rd; usually next to Wiggly (looped), except in G's PNWBT

Even their moves (base WTNBP) tend towards the above:

Little detail in NPMD that’s living rent free in my mind (spoilers ahead!)

I know the fandom has been obsessing over figuring out the lyrics to everyone’s favorite chaotic™️ scene but I wanna acknowledge something in the choreography that caught my attention💃🏻

Okay so first off MASSIVE PROPS to Lauren for choreographing this so amazingly. If you pay close attention you’ll notice that each of the Lords in Black has their own cute little 8 count dance related to their character (some more clear than others).

… okay honestly this one tripped me up but it fits the vibe

Okay so this alone was a cool discovery, but THEN I noticed that the Lords in Black cycled through each other’s choreography throughout the scene. After a million watches that I absolutely don’t regret I’m pretty sure I figured out the pattern to be: Wiggly➡️Tinky➡️Nibbly➡️Blinky➡️Pokey🔁 in a looping order. There were a few discrepancies in this pattern (I think possibly either due to choreography mistakes or maybe it was just to make the choreography look more symmetrical?) but this was the order that most commonly persisted:

Anything in parenthesis is what I think they were supposed to do because it’s a simple switch that fits the pattern (Corey never did Tinky’s dance but did Nibbly’s for 2 cycles, Lauren had Nibbly and Tinky’s reversed).

Anyway this may already be a thing because I definitely need to get caught up on Hatchetfield lore but I’m wondering if there’s any significance to this order?

It almost matches the order that we were introduced to the Lords in Black in (Blinky being the one out of place):

Wiggly (Black Friday)

Blinky (Watcherworld. NMT Season 1, episode 1 part 2)

Tinky (Time Bastard. NMT Season 1, episode 2 part 2)

Nibbly (Honey Queen. NMT Season 2, episode 1)

Pokey (Yellow Jacket. NMT Season 2, episode 4).

It almost matches reverse order to when we were first introduced to all of the dolls in The Witch in the Web: Pokey➡️Blinky➡️Tinky➡️Nibbly➡️Wiggly. Nibbly and Tinky are reversed, which could maybe be connected to Lauren reversing their dances in the order but I feel like that’s too far of a reach:

It also almost matches the order that the names are read from in the black book (again reverse order and Nibbly and Tinky are switched):

It makes sense that invoking the names ends with Wiggly since it’s been implied at multiple times that he is the most powerful and terrible of the Lords in Black but other than that I’m clueless.

One moment that perfectly matches the pattern in the dance if you reverse it is the one real picture we have of the dolls from Nick’s Twitter:

If you start with any of them and go backwards it matches the (most consistent) pattern from the dance perfectly: Nibbly⬅️Tinky⬅️Wiggly⬅️Pokey⬅️Blinky

There’s more stuff that shows up in the choreography throughout the dance that intrigued me but this post is already way too long and I’m guessing with my luck there’s probably 0 significance to the order that the dances were done in buuuut yeah I’m driving myself insane on this so if anyone has any insight let me know!

If you don't mind me asking, what inspired your designs for the LiB human forms? Why did you give them the looks that you did?

I love this question!! I'll explain a bit of my design process. (Be prepared, it is a long explanation!)

First and foremost, I wanted to retain their color schemes, but sort of "normalize" them in a sense. The lords dress very bright and wacky, and I wanted to keep that but also make them look like someone you could just pass on the street. So, the first thing I did was assign them natural hair colors. A more natural blonde for Tinky, ginger for Wiggly (because I found it funny), etc etc..

I also tried to make their clothes more "believable". You dont really see a lot of people walk around in shiny, brightly saturated, monochromatic outfits in everyday life. Personally, I think we should normalize that, but whatever. So, I broke up and spread the color throughout their outfits. Pokey still has blue, but its only in his pants and tie. Tinky still has orange and a little bit of red, but he doesnt have those neon yellow matching jacket and pants combo like in canon. Basically the first step in designing them was making them look.. kinda normal!

Then the second part! Relating them to my pre existing lords designs!

Disclaimer!! These are old designs from months ago, and Ive been slowly redesigning them so they aren't exactly accurate to how I envision the Lords!

But anyway, then comes the easy part, making them look like my interpretations of the lords! Face shape, nose type, hair texture, body type, etc etc. I did accidentally make Tinky less husky as a nerd, which wasnt intentional, so when I draw him later he will be a bit stockier!

As for exact design choices for each of the Nerds In Black, this is how I designed them!

Pokey

His outfit is meant to resemble Paul's outfit by the end of tgwdlm. Its pure irony and I am a sucker for that! It also feels like something Pokey would wear casually: formal but not too formal. The little heels are purely for show. In the future I'd probably draw him with chunkier heels. The little streak in his hair comes in a later chapter!

Tinky

I really channeled nerd energy into his design. The short sleeved button down over a t-shirt speaks to me. Also gave him a watch because I felt it was the easiest way to allude to who he is. Plus, it matched the shape language of his glasses! (Which alludes to his goggles in canon) When I draw him in the future I am drawing him a bit chubbier and with messier hair. Also, ive never written about it or drawn it, but Tinky still has an overbite!

Wiggly

He is actually pictured in an outfit that will show up in the next few chapters! It's a dressier outfit than what he woke up in. The inspiration comes from a funny place actually: Grace's outfit. White shirt, cardigan vest, a little ascot resembling tentacles, its just a slightly more masculine (and green) version of her outfit. And this serves a purpose! For now, I'll say that Grace and Wiggly have a surprising amount of things in common, and they are sort of like foils to each other. It was also important to make him look non threatening, including his lanky frame and freckles. Basically, i wanted to emphasize his insecurities, the parts of himself that he believes make him weak, so that he can't avoid facing them head on!

Nibbly

I went a little silly for this one. PERSONALLY, and this is my opinion, I dont.. really care for Nibbly's outfit in canon, but I tried to keep the skirt, pigtails, and overall feminine expression. I feel like the dark sweater contrasted well with the skirt and peppermint inspired accents. Honestly, im not sure if this one is one of my favorites and I may rework it a little, but I still think its cute! Plus he has a little gap between his teeth! Also, the corset was a fun idea I had, and I think he will get it in a later chapter. The strings on the corset are supposed to resemble sharp teeth too.

Blinky

Being fr I have no idea what i was thinking with the polka dots on the hoodie. Maybe like.. eyes? Definitely going to rework that. Anyway, I wanted Blinky to be dressed very modestly. Its sort of meant to represent that he prefers to watch and not be watched. The face mask also serves that purpose, plus obscuring his mouth. I also kept his glasses, but made them a necessity. Its an added weakness, and worse, its a weakness that was once his strength.

In conclusion...

Overall, I think Pokey, Wiggly, and Tinky are my strongest designs that have a lot of thought into him! I will be changing a feel small things in the future, but for now I think they are fine.

Nah he would defend the commercial with his LIFE. Here is how it would go.. (written in a script esc format bc i already have enough writing to do)

Steph: "Seriously... You made that?"

[Wiggly looks incredibly proud.]

Wiggly: "Yes, of course! Catchy, right?"

Steph: "No, its terrible."

[Wiggly frowns. Pokey looks offended]

Pokey: "I helped out on that jingle, I take offense to that."

Steph: "No, like.. The commercial itself.. its dumb and gimmicky. "

Wiggly: "IT IS NOT!!"

Pokey: "Well.. I suppose I agree with you on that stance."

[Wiggly slowly turns around and gives Pokey an annoyed look]

Blinky: "Yeah its not exactly cinema."

Tinky: "Not even close!"

[Wiggly pauses, turning his gaze onto them, ganging up on him.]

Wiggly: "IT'S NOT SUPPOSED TO BE CINEMA, IT IS SUPPOSED TO SELL TOYS!!"

Steph: "What kid would want a toy that does that annoying baby voice? Any kid nowadays would get bullied off the pkayground with that thing."

Wiggly: "IT IS NOT A BABY VOICE, IT IS A PERFECTLY NORMAL CUTESY VOICE!"

[Insert a momentary pause as the others consider his argument]

Blinky: "So.. a baby voice."

Pokey: "That is most definitely a baby voice."

[Wiggly crosses his arms, visibly pouting]

Wiggly: "Do you UNDERSTAND how difficult it is to speak with tentacles? Well, I'm SORRY I can't annuniciate every human word correctly when I have extra limbs obstructing my mouth!"

Steph: "Ohhh... so its like a speech impediment, my bad."

Pokey: "No, he is just trying to make you feel bad, the voice is definitely a choice."

Blinky: "A bad one at that.."

[Before Wiggly can scream at them, Tinky pipes up with a barely related idea]

Tinky: "Huh, now I do wonder what it would be like having mouth arms."

[Conversation derails into how tentacles arent equatable to arms and Tinky vowing to try out mouth arms when he can shapeshift again.]

How did Tinky, Blinky and Nibbly react when they first woke up and discovered that they’ve been turned into humans?

Tinky was probably really freaked out for like two minutes max, not having his box and his time powers, but then he realized that he could explore CCRP and find his Teddy bear that way. He was pretty calm after that. He may be the lord of time, but his attention span is incredibly small.

It was also really jarring for Blinky. He is used to having a thousand eyes, constantly seeing from every direction, so having only one line of sight was very disconcerting to him. He had some issues with depth perception as well. Tripped and fell a lot before getting used to it.

Nibbly just ate wallpaper but otherwise he was fine.

(P.D: Just wanted to let you know that I have developed a huge hyperfixation towards this fic. It’s incredibly well written and I LOVE how you characterize the LIB struggling with their new mortality and its consecuences. It’s just 🤌🤌).

Will the Lords have short moments were they slightly recover their powers? Trials of Apollo style?

Unfortunately, no! They are completely severed from the Black, the source of their power, so it's completely unaccessable to them. If they did have the Black Book they could access some of their power, but then at that point they could just reinvoke their names and reincorperate themselves into the Black.

They do still carry like.. traces of their power? But its only normal human stuff. Like Pokey can still play the piano decently, because its not some magical ability. Tinky still has a great sense of time and how it passes, because humans do have internal clocks. Blinky is very detail oriented, being able to pick up on small things. (if he has his glasses of course)
