I feel like a lot of people (mostly people who prefer the musical) downplay just how depressing "Santa Fe" is in the movie. Yes, it's more of a wistful "I Want" song than it is in the musical, but as someone who's struggled with depression since she was a child, 17-year-old Christian Bale managed to capture the loneliness and melancholy that comes with being a depressed teenager better than people give him credit for.
Don't get me wrong, I adore Jeremy Jordan and I think he's talented as hell, but his version of "Santa Fe" just doesn't hurt the way Christian's does. I still get emotional even after six years of watching this movie and hearing the song. I actually started writing this post while trying not to cry because movie "Santa Fe" just gets it, you know? It just hurts so much and it's so beautiful but I think people forget that sometimes.

Oh Snoddy bites his nails! You can see it when the scene cuts to the newsies after Roosevelt and Denton talk!

They played period-era games on set and gave them a lot of independence to see how things played out. Which was great until Max Casella started to teach the younger kids how to gamble. He was really perfect for Racetrack, wasn't he?

I know we as a fandom tend to assign specific little newsies to the older newsies but I'm pretty sure Jack and Bumlets are sharing custody of Boots. Jack gets a lot of big stuff but Bumlets gets some cute background moments. Case in point:
Bumlets trying to protect Boots
Boots on Bumlets's shoulders

So Gabriel Damon stopped acting and now works in real estate so he completely moved on from it and I wonder if he’s aware that there are literal fan accounts about a scrappy fifteen year old paper boy he played in 1992

Skittery entering the lodging house sopping wet, a cigarette between his teeth. Just, so exhausted.
“The hell happened to you?”
“Did’ya know the guys in Brooklyn actually will push you into the river?” He blows out smoke, rolls a shoulder, winces a little at the movement. “They get real concerned when you don’t swim back up though.”
#newsies#skittery newsies#92sies#prev >#skittery of all time#one of the brooklyn guys sending him off with an awkward pat on the back#and then shaking their hand out from the unpleasant sensation of a soaked shirt

I keep thinking about how clever the nickname ‘Teddy Bear’ is for Ted. It’s creates this slight infantilisation and vulnerability depending on its use by the character who says it - demeaning from Tinky but a sweet nickname from Jenny. Not to mention how it draws attention to how much Ted has changed since he lost Jenny - you wouldn’t call a pushy asshole like Ted ‘Teddy Bear’ unironically but someone did.
Sorry these are really garbled thoughts but I had to get them out there.

Dragged my brother (a guy who doesn’t like musicals very much) to see TGWDLM:R a couple weeks ago and he’s started to get into Starkid. Thought you all might find this funny

Proposal for Starkid if they end up doing a cast recording for TGWDLM:R:
Bonus tracks with the understudies’ renditions of some of their songs. Because I want them. Some of their roles don’t have solo songs, like Emma, Bill, and Ted, but even just hearing their voices in the ensemble numbers would be cool.
Would love to hear:
Curt Mega: Let it Out or Tied Up My Heart
James Tolbert: Show Stopping Number
Rianny Vasquez: Cup of Roasted Coffee
Mary Kate Wiles: Not Your Seed or Join Us (And Die)
