Moonflower [Deena/Selena]
So, I've been completely brain-rotting over these two for a while now (if it wasn't obvious given the sheer amount of art I've done and the fact that I plan on making a full fancomic off the premise). I was going to wait to implement and write all this out through the comic, but frankly, I'm a full-time student AND have a full-time retail job. Free time does not exist.
So, my solution is to word vomit all my ideas about these two, their story/relationship, etc. Things are subject to change as things progress but lord only knows I believe I will simply implode if I can't throw this all Somewhere.
So I present to the five of you active in the Nexomon fandom:
An ungodly long textpost about a relationship that an autistic 20 year old is very mentally ill about:
So, some basic questions out of the way:
Who the fuck is Selena?
Selena is the name I gave the female protagonist from the first Nexomon game. I've given her own character and backstory that follows the first game's plot and all that jazz with some added details relating to her family. Basically, I actually made the protagonist from the first game an actual character.
Why Deena/Selena?
This entire ship became an idea in my brain solely because of the canon appearance of Solus's human form. I saw blue hair and an unknown second parent, thought about the sheer angst of it all, and my brain went on a god damn spree. With some time, I thought even just first game Deena/Protag was cute, so thus, the brain rot continues.
Moonflower?
I think having ship names be something more than just smashing their names together is better. The name itself is from Deena's whole plant/flower/life thing and Selena is because, y'know. Selena. Name relating to the moon. Moonflower. I'm real creative.
Why the name Selena for the protagonist?
Similar to the whole Moonflower name I just based it off another thing, that other thing being Solus/Omnisun. Sun and moon. Once again, I'm super creative.
How close to the canon plot is this AU/story?
So for most of the plot of the first game, it's pretty close. Some scenes would be expanded on, developed relationships more, etc., but otherwise the plot was fine. Soon as we hit the complete ending? Take the previous plot and go ahead and chuck it out the window.
There are similar elements, of course. Raging tyrants, Vados and Amelie, Solus (obviously), but the timeline and characters present is completely different and thus relationships between characters is also very different. Characters like Metta (James) and Ellie are not only still around but are active parts of the story instead of being swept under a rug.
---
So, the way I explain things best is through a QnA sort of format, wherein someone asks a question and I answer it, and go from there. So that's how this is going to be formatted. You can skip around and stuff easier that way too :)
Plot holes that I filled:
Why was Deena a similar age to the main protagonist of the first game?
So, the main protagonist is canonically a child, around 15. They're called a child, act like a child, very clearly a child. The Nexolord (Metta/James) is very clearly an adult. All seems fine there. The problem is:
How is Deena so much younger than all her family?
Deena is canonically kid number 4 out of 7, yet she looks and acts the same age as the main protagonist. And it's not like she just looks young, we see her in Nexomon: Extinction as a whole ass adult, same with the protagonist.
My "fix" for this is to make it that she was not in a place where time ticked by the same way. That place being the Netherworld.
In canon, time doesn't move the same way in the Netherworld that it does in the real world. It seems to either put a complete pause on it, or it moves really, really, slow in comparison to the real world. Which, given it's the Nexomon equivalent of the afterlife (not sure if it's just Hell so I'm just gonna stick with it being the afterlife), makes at least some sense. Time doesn't matter once your dead, whomp whomp.
So how/when did Deena get to the Netherworld?
In my AU, she flees there after being disowned by Omnicron. More specifically, she flees at the beginning of Ulzar's crusade against Omnicron. She knows he's hunting down the children of Omnicron, and after all the damage her siblings and father have done to humanity, she knows he's not going to listen to reason. Not wanting to be found by either her family OR Ulzar, she takes her chances in the Netherworld, where she hides out for a very, very long time. She watches her father and siblings be defeated and their souls are locked away in the Netherworld, and believes all will be fine. All of them are in a place they can't just get out of and do more damage, and she's also safe from them - separated.
That is, until a certain bowling ball with ribbons starts resurrecting them.
Deena catches on to what the Nexolord is doing, and, realizing she can't sit idle as her family tries to destroy the world again, decides to return to the real world. But, because she's been separated from her family for so long and time just doesn't work the same, she looks and acts like a fifteen year old girl. She doesn't know how things in the modern era work, she knows plenty about history, and so hides her lack of knowledge under the guise of being an explorer.
---
Now, onto the more fun part:
How the hell did that relationship become a thing.
On Selena's side, it's real simple - human emotions and all that. There's a joke somewhere about how in my AU Ellie was her childhood crush and something something green hair, light eyes, etc. but that joke comic was made already and go find it on my page /lh /j. Selena's just a simple girl who thinks the green-haired ditz is cute and will follow her around like a sad, lost puppy.
For Deena, however, tis a bit more complicated, but it can be summarized akin to meeting someone who's as passionate as you are, someone who matches your passion and drive and energy.
Selena and Deena both want both monsters and humans to live together happily. The one thing that made Selena "different" in comparison to other people with those ideals is that instead of wishing and waiting, she actually went out to try and do it. She chased down the Nexolord, she fought Omnicron's children, and she never once turned back.
That bravery is something Deena aspires to have. She fled from her father's wrath before, but now, here, was this mortal girl with no special powers facing off against demi-gods without a second thought because she believes in her cause. That, to Deena, is worth so much. That's what makes Selena so special.
All that to say, their relationship is complicated. It's impossible for it not to be. But that whole "fighting for what she believes in" comes in again for Selena - she does really, truly love Deena. She did before and after finding out about her true identity - that didn't change anything for her. And it's through Selena that Deena can really see the best humanity has to offer, and she doesn't want to lose that. Selena has devoted herself entirely to Deena, not as some godly figure or because she's a scary monster, but because she's just Deena, and it's the first time she's been appreciated as herself and not as a title.
They're not perfect. Deena hides her problems and bottles up her emotions while Selena doesn't know when to sit down and stay down when it comes to fighting for what she believes in. They get frustrated with each other, they argue here and there, but they work on things.
And that progress definitely gets accelerated by Solus being born. Hard to argue with one another about how they shouldn't bottle up their problems or should stop letting comments get under their skin about a dumb plan if your trying to keep a small, helpless creature destined to become a literal God in your care.
That's all for now from me but I am ALWAYS open to questions. Anon or not I do not care I am ill about them :3

Wardens and Design Similarities
So I've been thinking about the wardens.
(nexomon spoilers, also vague n2 spoilers)
Has anyone noticed that most of the wardens bear similarities to their prisoners? They're all the same type, to begin with, but there's appearance similarities too.
Ogoon and Fona, four-legged with a point on the back of the head and a tail of fire. Darine and Arqua, blue, crescent-shaped with a pointy head, two wings, and a tail. Hexia and Ventra, teal, bipedal with two legs two arms and two wings (in the same places). It can't be a coincidence that they all have the same body shape within their pair.
Titan has the same general body shape as Grunda apart from the fact that Titan is floating. And the patterns of yellow and brown are similar – the yellow stone on Titan's middle resembles Grunda's yellow belly.
Krowr's only similarity to Luxa is the yellow around the eyes. Why so different? And Tikala doesn't seem to bear likeness to anyone.
Ziegler himself could be read as having similarities to Omnicron or even Metta… but could just as easily be read as having similarities to Luhava. And by that I mean if I had to pick a Legendary Nexomon that Ziegler was most similar to in shape I'd pick Luhava. (I was about to say 'ghost does beat wind' but Ziegler's not even ghost-type in n2.)
Nexomon does like its appearance similarities. In n2, for example, Solus is very similar to Nara (n2 Nara especially), and Omnisun was clearly made to resemble Omnicron. Different colours, same shape.
So it's the outliers (hi Krowr) that confuse me.
The appearance similarities made me wonder if the wardens also had behaviour similar to their prisoners.
Nadine is specifically stated to be cruel and shown to respond to problems with violence, and her warden Hexia drains her energy when she gets to be the slightest problem. Darine is psychic-type in n2 and iirc is better at maintaining the nightmare than most of the others in n1, and her prisoner Merida is good at putting on a façade.
Titan I think shows some similarities to Grunda, but you have to look to n2 to see any of the traits in Grunda. Wanting the place he's built to run smoothly and possibly a fondness for children? "I can't let anyone disturb the peace in this Nightmare, not even children."
Not sure on Ogoon. He might share Fenrir's liking of testing others' strength.
And then there's Krowr, who... I don't really get? I copied down all of the wardens' lines for... Reasons... and Krowr barely has any and none of them tell me much.
(And if we assume Tikala was Nara's warden somehow, then we can point out that he got attached to humanity just like she did.)
I have several theories about what all this means. Maybe the Wardens were created as sort of mirrors of their prisoners (doesn't really explain Krowr but this is my pet theory), or perhaps they just find it easier to present a form similar to what they know (though that would assume the personality thing is just a coincidence).
In conclusion this is absolutely not a coincidence thank you for reading and please contact me if you can explain Krowr.

Sorry in advance for the sudden jumpscare in the Nexomon fanbase (or my dash rn), but I really needed to get this brainworm out of my head here:
The teaser for Nexomon 3 already came out a while ago, but I was giddy enough to know that the theme of old characters/concepts from the previous games returning is still going strong here. Especially with the importance of witches and seers from the Abyssals DLC; since they were supposed to help predict when the Abyssals will strike back and share knowledge on their behaviors and weaknesses to future generations...And now in a undisclosed amount of time, the bloodline was being destroyed until there's barely anything left.
Of course, it's not like the Abyssals picked them off, but something or someone that is completely unknown to the people of Aurelian/Aurelia(?) (and congrats on VEWO for finally making a region name) both past and present. And I know that it's way too early to speculate on who that might be, but given the current track record in bringing back old characters for some much-needed vengeance is a definite must for the series. You know...like Metta and Leah?
Major rant/theory dump below cause I have no way to explain this normally.
Metta's a obvious pick since, as far as Nexomon 1 is aware, he should be dead after his Omnicron revival stunt, but he's not. He wasn't in the Netherworld when the MC went through their Doom arc and revisited Omnicron's kids in their Nightmares, you only got to see his Nexomon form post-dlc, his real name only mentioned once, and he even has a joke headstone in Extinction playing with the idea that he might still be around somewhere in the world (so 1 million post-Ulzar and N1, 1 thousand-ish years old N:E + however long until N3 starts). I mean, Omnicron's kids are effectively immortal (and Solus too), so who's to say he's been playing the extremely long game in gaining the upper hand? They have a legitimate reason to take the reins as Omnicron's heir, after all, and he would've been incredibly pissed if he was completely overshadowed by his surprise niece/nephew instead of following a typical hierarchy.
As for Leah, it's a bit iffy on her part since she might've Digi-died before the MC battles Vaithe/Vados (and Malk mercing the entire program in a blaze of glory), but data can still be recovered, right? Like sure, 95% of the Micromon database was destroyed in Extinction from the Drakes (as mentioned by Amelie and Logan in the dlc), and only the Chaos Quartet were left over...But that's not the case. 29 Nexomon from N1 were somehow revived on Precursor Island (6 of them being Micromon related), yet there's no real answer on how that was possible. Not to mention the possible hint that Leah's the only one who can control all four Chaos 'mon, even with the possible upgrades, so it wouldn't be more of a coincidence that she comes back somehow to complete the set (and possibly be Metta's confidant/overseer since she definitely has the look, mask or no mask).
And circling back to the step up with Nexomon 3 being 3D like Pokemon Arceus or Breath of the Wild (crossing my fingers on it still being different from them), I'm kinda curious if they're going to show the Omnicron fam transform into their Nexomon forms, Solus and Omnisun included. It will definitely be a pain in the butt to animate, sure, but it also got me thinking about how Metta works with a human form since he's just a glass ball and a bunch of ribbons. I'm personally hammering in the idea that he just a bag of air in the shape of a human (minus the head for his main body) and possibly circulates element-based energy though it to fake it till he makes it (Fire for body heat, Mineral for "bones", Water for "blood", Wind for circulation, Electric/Nature for a passable heartbeat, and Normal...well, to look normal). And methinks that when he finally does the big reveal that it's not with a giant flash of light or a massive wave of energy, but it's slow and unnerving as his body just unravels apart. Skin slowly peeling away to show nothing underneath, ribbons pale white but the ends colored with attributes of long past, and the only thing physical about him is the glass sphere where his skull should be, just staring with chiseled-on eyes at his soon-to-be enemies...And then the real nightmare starts trying to fight something so small but so so powerful that will definitely put his siblings to shame. -Oh yeah, and Byeol. They definitely need to come back, but they're the one that does the flashy introductions and stuff. They have that kind of energy to me.
But if that isn't final boss material (or second to final), than I have no idea what is. Anyway, rant over. Thank you for your patience and stuff :)

Okay, I'll bite. Deena. Go ahead.
You're just shooting fish in a barrel. Well except there you have the slightest chance of missing.
Massive spoilers for the whole nexomon series. I mean it
Before I begin madness, Deena is Omnicron's fourth child. Nara of the forest. She doesn't have a two word title like the rest cuz she did revive Omnicron. So it's free real estate.
Formalities done with? Yes? Alright:
I am not well about her. At all.
She helps you in n1, reveals herself to be Nara at the end. In n2 she hides it till frozen(where she dies) , turns out to be your mom in Lateria, nothing till revival.
Okay. Okay, I-
First of all. I truly to believe in n2 while she has definitely changed from the literal war at least a little bit, she's definitely playing an act when it comes to how much. I mean, once you go Omnisun and revive her she actually smiles for the first time and it made my heart into a puddle when I replayed. She's genuinely happy<3
Innnn n1 her siblings don't recognize her somehow. Well, Merida mentions her in her nightmare with something like "not without traitors on this side" or something like that, it's been a bit since I read her dialogue
Which. Can Deena interact with her siblings more, PLEASE. She gets 1 interaction with Fenrir, and that's IT. And that's in n2!
There is not a singular part of my soul I would not turn over for James and Deena to talk. Actually have a conversation. Please.
Because they're almost opposites to one another and I really need to see how that would go. Grudges, guilt, and so on. PLEASE.
And to again hit the fish in the barel...
Deena. Deena, darling, can we talk about your problem solving abilites?
Pre n1, even if you didn't team up with Ulzar(which is up to interpretation, but most people say yes), you still allowed your siblings to be actually killed. For humanity. It was probably a necessary step, but with that you nuked your relationships with them at least temporarily.
In n1, in Lateria, you do leave the room. You speak as we are about to fight Grunda, your sprite is in the room. But whoops once he's dead you are gone! No sprite, absolutely no talking until you head outside of the chamber. Coincidence? Probably, but this is my brainrot I will accept it as canon.
In n1 endgame, after killing Omnicron, you literally say almost word for word you will stay and watch your father's soul for an eternity. Deena. No. Just because you're related to Omnicron, does in fact not mean, you should spend an ETERNITY in the netherworld. Ziegler's there and it is stated the wardens do not like you. The most entertainment you could humanly get is probably with Miriam. Deena, we don't do that-
And in n1 POST GAME, when Omnicron is bluffing when he says "if you destroy my soul all nexomon will slowly die", she doesn't deny it. If she knew it was a lie, she probably would have said so. But no. She says something like " You need to. That soul is also the source of great evil. " which, without knowing he's bluffing. Deena. Deena are we going to talk about that, are all? No? What do you mean no. We can't just glance over you essentially being willing to die-
And THEN, as if everything else was not enough, in n2, you are fully willing to hand your child over to Grunda(who's doing great with it, btw), but like. That has got to hurt. Especially after having OMNICRON as a parent. She definitely did not feel good about it I am not taking any arguments about the opposite.
And as a cherry on the TOP. She dies. Now, Xanders may be buff, but he probably couldn't have beaten Deena if she gave it her all. My belief. But issue, this is an enclosed space. And plants are very sharp and hurt very much! If she did give it her all, what is she actually hurt Solus? Alternatively, she's probably still weak from well, giving birth to Solus. Are we noticing a theme in what Deena does, perhaps? Just a little one?
Seriously. She has got to stop saving the world over her own well-being/self. Deena you need a hug and hot cocoa gosh darn it.
- Bonus mini rant! -
Besides, I am so worried about her in n3. Why?
Well. Lets see. She keeps loosing more and more as the series progresses as a. But as b and c..
So, we have a cycle of: Humans v nexo and Deena switching sides. Monsters are in the lead? Deena's going against Omnicron. Humans are in the lead? Let her deal with Vados in a convoluted plan.
Following this pattern, ladies and gentlemen, what do we get for the next game?
Combine THAT, with the lack of choice being a theme(as a person I follow pointed out) sure, Blue messed up killing Omnicron, but what choice did they really have? He was evil, he was going to end the world. There was only one, even with bad consequences.
And then, Amelie, what choice did she really have? I mean, I hate her, but your people are dying gosh darn it. You have to try and stop it somehow, you don't really have a choice less it goes into shit.
Solus had to revive Tyrants, sure it was a bad thing but how else were they supposed to stop Vados? That's their friends, and people on both sides. What choice did they have, really?
Abyssals are also a very prominent example, with them having obviously no fricking choice to do nothing.
So. Combine the two, and you get....
Granted, I pray I'm incorrect. She needs a god damn nap. And hot cocoa.
-Bonus rant over-
All of this is to say, I love her a lot. She's such a great character and I just wish for her siblings and her to talk more. And for Solus and her to hug, preferably. It would be appreciated.
Oh and, I dislike her n2 design somewhat. Simple reason, she has 3 goddamn butt flowers. And NO moving green parts! Why??? That was like a staple of Omnicron's children!
I fixed it, there ya go.
Of course this is my subjective opinion and so on, but hey
Oh and ALSO! Personal reason why she couldn't become the ruler of Nexomon: she was weak to wind and fire, simple as that. She needs to get all of her siblings' gifts but she couldn't possibly do those two because how is she supposed to control either at all?
It's why Solus can, they have two weaknesses, one being ghost, and both also being super effective against. So they might have some trouble with those ones, but they are chilling (remember, their weakness to plants is one sided)
Alright. I think that's everything about this plant deer? Eh, most things anyway

Just for fun of it, here's a little ramble/headcanon on Byeol's role as a "Tyrant" and how he serves as both a parallel and contrast to Solus (Spoilers for Nexomon 1 and Extinction)
First off, while everyone can say that Solus has some obvious parallels to Omnicron (almost being a mini me but not), but there's also enough connections to Byeol with Metta with a lot of the angel symbolism/design and a cuter little updo (also I'm reaching so hard on the headcanon that if Byeol gets a human form it'll have little blue highlights and styled like a cockatoo...Cause he's a little birb or bust). But one thing I kind of latched onto recently are the little comparison to Solus and Byeol as Tyrants of light or purity in a world ravaged by war and hardship.
Now Solus being Solus as a fairytale Tyrant that will save the world (though it could be said that Solus' role was just to ascend to king as Omnisun), there's zero real info on Byeol's impact as a Tyrant besides being found in Palmaya in-game and the dex entry somewhat implying that he's a recently born Tyrant since the writer refuses to question where/when he first appeared or if he even has a Renegade...But what if Byeol's role is to follow the fairytale itself, being a active beacon of hope and kindness to those who wish for a better future?
To me, I like to think that Byeol doesn’t really have the same drive to be Nexomon King like the other Tyrants (more on that later), but just decides to "solve the war" by being friends with both Nexomon and humans. Of course, he quickly learns that most humans and tamers have a lot of negative beliefs about Tyrants, but has zero idea on why that is; if it's from the Guild’s propaganda, Lateria’s work as Tyrant hunters, or just from the destruction the war creates as a whole.
But what better way to make the world a kinder place is doing a bunch of good deeds or giving gifts to those that need it? After all, those mean humans do it all the time with each other, so why can’t he do it as well? It's a great idea on paper but with a terrible execution in general, especially if he fails to comprehend the nuances that goes on in a war of such a monumental multigenerational scale. Granted, I’m pretty sure he latched into that philosophy from Palmaya being all “Tyrant-free” with positivity and peace, so his mindset is just as rigid as them. On another note, I also like to think that Byeol picked up on gossiping from the Palmayans since they would have a lot to say about the political climate of the Guild and/or Nexomon War (especially if a few NexoGuard keeping coming to Palmaya for "recon"), so he would also have zero filter on what he wants to talk about no matter how good or bad this new info is.
But even if he has the strength and intelligence of a Tyrant, Byeol wouldn't actively get into battles unless absolutely necessary or to protect himself (no matter what the post-game encounter shows). And with the added fact that he has a 70/30 split between Normal and Psychic type moves, I like to think that would go with his characterization as well. Once again reaching with any implications in Extinction (mainly the intro cutscene), Byeol could have the ability to see into the future to an extent; but I like to think he gets dizzy or gets headaches if he looks too hard into them, looking into multiple futures at once, or just uses these powers for long periods of time. While it could be as small as a few minutes to hours ahead or future milestones/life choices, but Byeol is pretty keen on watching them happen as is; whether or not he saw the future beforehand, not seeing the full future to surprise himself, or seeing if the future changes when the person changes their destined path (which would be rare to none if they don't take his direct warning). And to add a bit more ammunition with this little headcanon, I mean...have you seen the quest markers?
(While the third one was a old placeholder for the blue star quests, I just wanted to add it since it seems cute to me. You do boost Reputation with little trade requests and is ultimately one of the requirements to become Grandmaster, so I'm sure Byeol wanted to help in that way as well as a unifying factor between humans and monster :)
But to put it simply; Byeol could see these futures in varying levels of time and importance, with side quests being small problems or incidents to fix and main quests (of course) being domino effects to something as big as the end of the world, Vados' creation, or Solus' ascension as Nexomon King. ...Or the main quest Alfred's Dream being a 2-3 year foreshadow to the Abyssal Kroma with a single Hohopi, but that's a rant for another time.
But going back on the Tyrant war tidbit, even if Byeol doesn’t have a Renegade in-game or even a set goal as far as the Guild would know, that kind of just teeters on the edge of angst to me. While every other Nexomon knows they want to become the next Omnicron both big or small, Byeol is completely lost on that reason because he doesn’t have a tamer to explicitly tell him why being a Tyrant is meant to give him the upper hand. And even if he sticks to doing good deeds, he would only solve minor problems that barely scratch the surface on creating world peace; cause it’s better to help others without getting himself hurt, right?
And even in the protagonist’s dream, the one thing setting the whole story in motion, Byeol says nothing on how to stop it from happening. No Tyrant egg, no Primordial Tyrants/regular Tyrants, no plans to fight the Guild from the inside out, nothing…Byeol just knew that everything would be a-okay and did nothing to stop the world (and Deena) from making those decisions for him. Unlike Solus, Byeol doesn’t know what to do with his power; doesn’t know how to grow and improve on something that could be used to save so many lives and stop so much hardship…He’s a Nexomon that has pure autonomy over his actions but one that’s completely out of the loop of everything he’s meant to represent; the war, the Tyrants, and even his own potential as another smaller but more helpful fairytale Solus…In a way, Byeol is as much of a human in every way but looks, and maybe the lack of a concrete dex entry fits the bill too. The Guild has every reason to call Byeol a Tyrant but they don’t understand why he’s doing everything unlike one, why he’s doing as much of a good job helping humans instead of hurting them (which will be wild for them to figure out once Vados is put in the picture). But sure, if Byeol is doing nothing but smiling away against the poor sucker who wrote that Nexopedia entry, then the Guild has every right to not think of the little guy as a threat, even if that may or may not bite them in the butt later on.
So here's to the little cherub either getting a important plot beat, a easter egg, or being a kickass secret boss in Nexomon 3 cause I can only do so much speculating on some nonexistent characterization here 🙃.
