Ramble ask game- N1 protagonist to hit you back (if I haven't before)
you have not! I know this because I have a list.
(nexomon series spoilers)
So, Blue (the name I always use for n1 protag).
They were just a stubborn kid. They protected their friends, and made new friends, and rescued Ellie.
They also point-blank refused to believe anything Fenrir or Ulzar or anyone was saying about their Nexomon turning against them, because those were their friends and Blue knew they'd never do that.
They were a kid, stubborn as stubborn could be, but kind, and with a good sense for people (I like to think).
And they definitely did not set off that day looking to defeat Omnicron. But they rose to the challenge, with their friends besides them, new and old.
Then the netherworld arc comes. Blue is still trying to protect people, but it all starts going wrong. But in the end, they trust Deena, they win the fight, and they think - well, last time Omnicron said anything (what he said to Ulzar) it was nonsense, so this will be too.
And for a time, everything's fine. Blue hangs out with their friends, helps people, et cetera. But as time goes on... it becomes more and more obvious that something's wrong.
The Tyrant Wars happen. Oh no. Blue is wondering if this is all their fault somehow. But either way, they're going to do whatever they can to help Deena fix it, which is probably why they ended up a ghost.
By the time of n2, they've spotted the pattern. Blue, Deena, Amelie, all of them had gone too far for the greater good. Blue tells Solus this, in a bit of a cryptic way, and... they smile, when Solus turns it around.

I've been hitting a mild rut with Pokemon, while simultaneously retreating into familiar comfort games that won't really challenge me much, but I'm also feeling kinda stagnant.  My initial thought was "I should pick up another Etrian Odyssey game!"  And then I didn't.  But while looking for options, I realized...while I'm doing better with the Switch, I really do not branch out at all.
For clarification: the entirety of both my DS and 3DS library of physical games?  Pokemon, Etrian Odyssey, and Fire Emblem.  That is literally all I own, barring like two games.  Even the GBA carts are all just Pokemon Gen 3 and Fire Emblem 7.  I barely owned Wii or WiiU games, with most of them just being Zelda.  I think I have maybe five WiiU games total.
The Switch catalogue has a lot more variety going for it, more than I've probably ever had in my life.  But I still find it hard, sometimes, to branch out.  Part of that is finance, I don't necessarily want to spend on new games.  There was one that the art caught my attention in the news, and when I went to check it out it was fucking $80.  I am not paying that for a game.  It also went on to talk about your male protagonist despite all the box art being female characters, so honestly just fuck that.
With Echoes of Wisdom, I do think I've kind of identified part of the problem as "not wanting to feel stuck."  One streamer I watch talked about how the mobile market and console games competing directly with them has led to a higher rate of instant gratification and people can't sit with discomfort and frustration anymore, and...there may be some truth to that.  Granted, I was never particularly good with it, but I can feel when I'm playing an unfamiliar game and encounter something I don't immediately understand, my instinct is to jump straight for the guide.  I did that around four times with EoW, but there was one situation where I didn't and figured out the puzzle and felt super clever.  It's more rewarding, but it's time consuming, and I am covetous of my time, even if I don't do the most with it.
And what this results in is an aversion to trying out something new.  That's potentially going to eat a lot of time and what if I don't like it?  I wasted my time then, didn't I?  Because that's never happened before.  I certainly didn't have a phase playing and reading stuff I knew I would hate just to get mad at it.  So what's the issue taking a chance on something that might be good?  It is the lack of assurance?  If I know I'll hate it, at least I went in knowing what to expect, I guess.
In another direction, part of the issue is not really knowing what I enjoy.  Genre in games is already hard to define, but it makes it incredibly challenging to know how to articulate what I like, and what might land well.
Like, okay, I like Pokemon.  Maybe other monster catching games are good?  Nexomon was a knockout success (though not entirely because of monster catching), but I didn't care much for Cassette Beasts, and every Digimon game has been a resounding miss for me.  Nexomon was just a fun story, and Pokemon is nostalgia so it succeeds in spite of its horrid flaws.
But hey, that streamer calls Pokemon an adventure game primarily.  Maybe what you need is more adventure games?  Maybe.  But that's Zelda, and modern Zelda I do not like at all.  The open-world approach isn't fun, and I don't actually like tricky or punishing combat systems I have to be good at in real time. I wouldn't know what else to look for, considering my dislike for active systems in most scenarios. Do not test my reaction speed, it is bad.
Well, what about Fire Emblem, then?  Maybe you really like tactics games?  Maybe.  But if it weren't for Unicorn Overlord, I'd say the entire genre outside of FE sucked.  Triangle Strategy was awful in pretty much every direction, and even Tactics Ogre, which I had on good authority is one of the Big Names for strategy, felt so slow and offputting that I put it down after maybe two hours.  I know the ongoing joke is that FE sucks and even its fans hate it, but I legitimately think they're the only tolerable strategy games to me.
So okay, what about Etrian Odyssey?  Maybe you like dungeon crawlers?  This...might actually be the dead ringer, depending on difficulty.  I haven't played many, but I really enjoy EO (games 3 onward, anyway), and the one attempt at another in Class of Heroes did land favorably for CoH2, at least, despite some chatter about how the games don't get tolerable until 3.  I dunno, I thought it had personality.  I'd play 2 again.  I think it's just a question of how difficult others would actually be, because consistently, I hear feedback of "The game is super hard and will kick your ass," and I am admittedly easily intimidated by the prospect of difficulty I can't adjust.
But there are other aspects.  What about the Atelier games, you loved them even if you fell off after Shallie.  Ryza is rare and expensive so I've had some trouble there, but we tried Rune Factory 5 and it was...fine?  More importantly, the structure of these games gets me so obsessed that I'm in an actively worse mood when I am working.  I can basically only play them during breaks, or I am Miserable.
What about Final Fantasy?  Maybe you need more story-centric RPGs?  ...actually, maybe I do need more story-centric RPGs, post cancelled, anyone have Switch recommendations?  Bonus points if it's a female lead.
I think I just.  Struggle.  Sometimes.  To find things that I feel like would be to my taste.  I want to branch out, but I think I am often intimidated out of trying.  I don't really know what I want.

nexomon character: Atlas!
Atlas! I promise this won't be nearly as long as my Deena one, spoiled just in case
(Welp, this might be an unpopular one)
So. Atlas is our 4th wall breaking protagonist in n1, and we all love him right?
He's definitely a lot more... I wouldn't say judgmental but judgemental than Coco is. While Coco also judges you sometimes (such as telling you to not spin pft), Atlas is worse in that regard
Cuz with Coco, you can tell he does care, with Atlas, you think he does, the game is never really clear on it
Especially with the jokes about Arqua eating you instead, and all the little "it's almost like someone thinks you're bad at this", which, I get is the game layer of telling a joke
But similar to Coco, as you mentioned, he does stick around, except here it's kinda unclear until way later if he does or doesn't do it for you, if it makes sense?
He first comes cuz he owes you for saving him, then he does to be in a race with Ellie and why not, then he's with you to save Ellie.
And I'm saying this as someone who loves Atlas, to clear. And I do truly think he does care but he could stand to show it more
He is a little bit better at the tower, iirc, I never focused on HIS dialogue for that place I had a bluer problem
But from what I recall there he is at least nicer, now that Ellie is a-ok
I do think the protag knows he cares too, but it's a bit blurry at a specific point, but it does clear up
Not that I think it's intentional from his side. He just likes being the Best Sidekick ™, and then wants to hurry and save Ellie and is a bit snarky, and it's obvious you don't necessarily feel offended by it too
I guess the difference between Coco and Atlas (and why Coco is the better sidekick sorry 'bot), is that Coco does seem to care more, sticks around, stuff like that. Atlas does care the same, but is more showing it through snark

Zettablogging plans/notes!
I originally wanted to clean this up and make it more detailed and nice before posting it! However that doesn't seem to be happening, so I think I shall just post what I had! Spoilers for Nexomon and Sun/Ultra Sun!
-Got Ultra Wormholed after being freed from the Underworld but before getting back to the main world. Is secretly both worried about his family/what that means, and very secretly glad to be out of there.
-Has a bit of a rivalry going on with Tapu Koko. It's increasingly a friendly rivalry, but Zetta will probably always call him "that jerk".
-First partner is a Rotom because of course it is. He gets the Rotom that would inhabit the protagonist's Rotomdex in canon.
-Can talk to electric type Pokemon, speaking the language of electricity and currents. Can't talk to any other ones.
-Puts up a token effort to pretend to be human around the villagers of Iki Town. Does not bother on Rotomblr. (Theoretically pretends to be human in front of Kukui, however Kukui watched him meet and talk to his Rotom buddy so that skitty's out of the bag. Kukui probably thinks he is a Rotom.) This does not stop him from trying to get zapped by every electric type pokemon he sees. -He will eventually find out about the power plant on Ula'ula, go there, and cause a blackout by eating up the electricity there. Never admits responsibility to anyone but it's really obvious.
-Zygarde doesn't like him, for obvious reasons. He gives off the same sort of aura as an Ultra Beast. The other Tapu also start rushing to fight off this new Ultra-intruder when he lands on their islands, until and unless Koko steps in to explain.
-Is aware of Lillie as Kukui's protege, but doesn't actually meet her until late in the "game". Is in the Ultra Sun-verse, kind of. (A blend of Sun and Ultra Sun.)
-Is still pre-character-development; thinks humans are expendable, but kind of entertaining. Is royally (heh) offended to be running errands for one, but Kukui's wife studies the wormholes that dropped Zetta in Alola and she's probably his best shot at getting home. So he plays nice. He slowly gets casually fond of the ones he interacts with a lot.
-Doesn't use Pokeballs; doesn't see a reason to, and shorts them out.
-Gets a more appropriate outfit for Alola but refuses to lose his visor.
-Will eventually punch Necrozma in the face. This is not negotiable. And/or bite them.
-Runs into Xurkitree at the Aether Foundation when Moon and Gladion drag enlist him to help them rescue Lillie. Their ensuing fight and subsequent alliance would probably scare everyone who saw it if they weren't occupied with other matters at the time.
-Can't currently transform because Necrozma ate all his electricity. The more time he spends in Alola the more he recovers, though. He is incredibly whiny and upset until he starts to feel like himself again. Koko gives him a charge boost near the end so he can transform and go beat up Necrozma. (There is an AU where I tossed in a reference to one of my favourite fics and Zetta gets in contact with more legendaries at this point, but I never heard back on if it was okay for me to do that, so it remains an AU)
-Eventual team is Rotom, Vikavolt, Dedenne, Electivire, Xurkitree, aaand Oricorio-P.
-Drags his feet a little on going home; Lillie and the URS are happy to help him do so after he sends Necrozma packing, but eventually he realizes he can't put it off anymore and he has to face the music in his own world, maybe with a bit more compassion and humility than he'd had when he arrived. I would have used this foot-dragging to justify posting even after the main arc had finished.

Huh. I know the whole thing about silent protagonists, and the whole deal with Nexomon about breaking the 4th wall a lot, but it's still kind of nice for it to be said so plainly?

suddenly I'm thinking about Blue (n1 protag) and Salem
(nexomon abyssals spoilers)
because Solus, that could have gone so much better.
you've got Mx Friendship on one side and a very lonely catgirl on the other. they literally live in the same forest. Do you see what I am getting at here.
But Salem's scared of Blue - and for good reason, given they were the one who killed her. And Blue's likely angry at Venefelis because Venefelis killed their friend.
Does Blue know that Salem is Venefelis? I don't think they do. The amount of miscommunication that would be required in order for Blue not to tell anyone about Salem being Venefelis and no-one to ask Blue about Salem would be staggering, so I think they just genuinely don't know. Salem's been hiding.
If Blue had come across Salem at any point over the centuries and actually tried to befriend her... redemption arc ensues? And that would make the Abyssals a whooole lot more interesting. Damnit I want to write this now-

Dude, Im sorry if you need money for these drawings, But im, trying, to make a Nexomon AU where The Nexolord is the Protagonist's Father, at least biologically (I for some reason made them twins)
But in summary, what if you just make a drawing where The Twins are forced, probably from the champions or something, to just take a picture with them, maybe like a family picture
Imm so sorry that this ask is asking for much and long af (๑•﹏•)

Group D Round 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[image ID: the first image is of Riley, a young woman with short blue hair, yellow-green eyes, and a bandaid on her left cheek. her outfit is entirely black and yellow: a yellow cap with a frowning face attached to a black belt around the base, a black choker, a yellow and black tank top, and an armband. the second image is of Hizame, a woman with long, light colored hair pulled back into a ponytail. a cloth covers her eyes, and there appear to be 2 rings pierced into the cloth, under her right eye, matching 2 rings on the left side of her mouth. she's wearing kimono with sleeves long enough that they cover her hands. end ID]
Riley
This was one of the vaguest characters I could think of from Nexomon that had more than like, one line. Anyways, Riley is part of the 'really good trio of Nexo-tamers' (I don't actually remember if that had an official name or not...) She does have my favorite Nexomon in the game (Reptomotor is fantastic) and is responsible for saying "get a room" and sparking the biggest Nexomon fic series to have a romantic subplot between the protagonist and Finn.
Hizame
Hizame is partly human partly yokai after consuming the flesh of a mermaid, making her effectively immortal. At some point, she ended up founding the Onmyou Bureau which hunts yokai causing problems for humans. During doing so she ended up in a grandmother-like role as she took in others in situations similar to herself where they can't fit into society as human nor yokai. A large part of her is predicated on her love for humanity and that love is repeatedly reflected back at her with how her subordinates express their love and concern for her in turn. Despite being 800 years old, her love for others never wavers - in fact, it only strengthens. When faced with her greatest regrets, it only reminds her what she's fighting for (to make sure that the regrets she has will not be regrets others have to face). To the very end of the series, she's upbeat and lively. Even when faced with the revelation that the world she lives in (and thus herself and all that she's been through) is part of a simulation, she is resolute that it was all worth it, in the end. She is the embodiment of 'to love and to be loved'.
