OPEN ASK BOX!! MaDD & Kin Questions/Help
I just want to say my ask box is open for all new or questioning kins/therians/alterhumans AND/OR maladaptive daydreamers/immersive daydreamers. I'm also happy to answer any questions from any curious people outside of the communities.
Anon is enabled.
I'm the type of person that always has 1000 questions on a topic or identity but I feel bad asking/spamming. Therefore I want it to be stated that this account is open for you to drop like 50 asks at once & I'll answer and help as much as I can. Curiosity is healthy & talking to others helps a lot when figuring things out!
Personally, I am otherkin, therian, fictionkin & a maladaptive daydreamer. I encountered the kin community in 2021-ish and have had a kin list since. I've been daydreaming since I was 4 and immediately identified with the term Madd/MD when it found me.
I'd rather no asks on discourse but I'm happy to explain why things are controversial. You're welcome to ask about my own experiences in depth! I'm not easily offended as long as something is sent in good-faith. If something makes me uncomfortable, I simply won't answer it so don't be afraid to send!

So i had a memory in my dream last night of being a large shape-shifting white and blue fox with a misty form and two tails (like the image above). It's been plaguing my mind. It's the first time I've drempt of a memory. I've always had a bit of a connection to foxes, but saying i was just a fox, therian felt wrong. I am a polytherian (Black wolf, Crow, maine coon cat, and an octopus) but i think i might also be a Kitsunekin. I did a bit of research, and the 'Kaze Kitsune' felt closest to what i felt. But im not sure. If anyone has more information to help me, that would be greatly appreciated!

HEYYY! I have found out i am a THERIAN. I have not forced myself onto this and that it will take myself a lot of time to take this information in. I have beeen watching my thoughts and actions for awhile, and i have made the conclusion that my theriotype is a lynx. I feel emotionally attached to this animal and i feel i have somewhat been in my past life a bridge of one the breeds of a lynx. Any type of cat type of animal. I have mentally struggled writing this post because I have not given myself time to process this huge change of mindset. I will give many updates from now and hope that my parents will accept this new me.
Thank you for your time and hopefully support,
NOOGIE

Therians who mock Therians (young or old) for wearing gear are stupid. I saw a post of an adult Therian mocking two CHILDREN (aprox 11-12) for wearing tails and masks.
The Therian community is already hated enough, for someone to think they are better than another Therian for expressing their Therianthropy differently is moronic.
They also remarked them being “tiktok” therians and “fake” for it. Seriously what the fuck. People like this bristle my fur so much, just no. No.
This goes out to all the Newly awakens. If you wear gear, you are no less or more than a Therian who doesn’t. That goes for the opposite as well. Express your identity however you wish, stay safe out there <3

This is a bit of an unhappy post regarding our communtiy & tiktok.
Whilst scrolling on my FYP, I came across a video in which a therian was talking about 'lycanthropy', as they worded it. It essentially was something like "Is your therianthropy showing too many signs of lycanthropy?" and then the next slide said "Get help as fast as you can!"
While misinformed and just downright odd, that's not what got me.
The caption said "Therianthropy should NEVER show signs of lycanthropy." There weren't many comments, but the few that were there were clearly young members of our communtiy being TERRIFIED of the idea. "I get prey drive sometimes, but it's not bad.. (that's lycanthropy..)"
Obviously I won't post screenshots because they're identifying and this user is potentially just misinformed.
Not only is this kind of thing incorrect and scaring newly awakened beings, it's also erasing an ENTIRE part if our community and placing further stigma on, for example, endels and psychotic beings who identify with the therian label. It's 'othering' those who experience strong instincts and animalistic urges. It's downright seperating an already small community.
What about those of us who physically identify as animals? What about those of us who feel nonphysically, but still wish to call themselves that animal? Tearing apart an already small and othered community just because YOU don't feel that way and then spreading misinformation is downright wrong and harmful.
This rhetoric needs to stop. It's not helping anyone. We all belong here. We all have our rightful place in this community, whether it's more aligned with the human side or the animal side. We all belong, no matter how you experience your otherkinity or therianthropy.
We're a community. Act like it. Don't cast out your physically identifying or otherwise nonhuman siblings like this.
All of us, physically identifying or not, see what you're doing. We see the erasure and we will not stand for that.
if i got something wrong in this post, please feel free to correct me. reblogs and additions to this are more than welcome

If thou wishes to inquire about my life with disability, queer and nonhuman identity do feel free to send an ask in my direction dear. I find when learning about one’s identity or the world around us, it can benefit to hear the experiences from others. I also believe there can be comfort sought in conversing with other persons. This blog is a place of inquiry, thine questions are welcomed. If you do not understand aspects of who I am, my poetry or what I say, tis no reason to feel ashamed. Ask and I will be delighted to answer.
Mine ear does belong to thee as do my tales. Ask away dear.

happy therianthropy day
i spent mine around a campfire with deer burger. found out one of my cousins is a newly-awakened canine therian too, so that was pretty fun, i taught her how to do vocals and i gave her a few handmade patches because she wants to make a battle jacket
edit: wanted to add that i helped her come out of her shell more. by the end of the night we were both completely shifted and that was mainly because i act completely canine when i'm around family. actually, i almost never speak to most of my family, i convey everything pretty much through body language. I think snapping my teeth at my uncle (her dad) when he jokingly went to grab one of my burgers sorta made her realize that she can be as doglike as she wants, at least around me lol. she's 14 and not very confident, and i definitely remember being that age. wanted to make it easier for her and i wanted to be a safe person for her

I see a lot of therians/alterhumans/etc share feelings of disconnect from this highly visible form of commodified subculture, the stuff with a tinge of consumerism. I completely empathize with them, but I also see the same beings who are taken by this idea that we would be communally better off if the community was more like “how it used to be”. I believe the answer doesn’t lie in preservation, or getting back to community roots. Expression will always find a way, and individualized expression will never be encouraged by the shunning of “new” and the emphasis on“old”.
I believe the answer lies more in channeling these feelings towards accepting and nourishing an evolving community. It does wonders when you have a willingness to ask questions, when you make a point to uplift other community members art, writing, and expression that speaks to you. Comment on the work that you like to see! Message someone you think is cool and see if they want to chat! ask that being with an identity you don’t understand if they can help you learn more about it! Gently steer the newly awakened towards information and different perspectives!
Newcomers need to be shown that there is warmth in the areas of this community that they aren’t yet well acquainted with, that way they can more comfortably participate in the community as a whole; and more experienced beings should be encouraging exploration and uplifting each other. When you invite other viewpoints into the communal conversation, everyone is better for it!🌈

Hello!! :3
Hello therian/alterhuman/tumblr community!! First blog on this account, making a new account specifically for therianthropy mostly so irls don't see. I'm a very newly awakened therian and still learning about myself and this community! I identify as a domestic longhair cat, but I am considering other feline kintypes. Like I said I'm still learning about about this community and would love to learn and interact with others!! Would love to see fellow feline therians and completely different animal therians!! Love learning about different ways people express themselves as therians and all the cool different animals there are! Nice to meet you all! I'll probably be making an introduction post very soon.

An Identity Without Name
A little while ago, I helped some other folks to coin a new term: Anymic (pronounced ay-nim-ick). The purpose of this term is somewhat paradoxical - it gives a name to identities that have no name (etymologically, anymic translates to "being without a name"). Those of us who coined it, though our experiences differ greatly and our species identities are practically nothing alike, had a few very key things in common:
We know our experiences very well. We have a very good idea of what our species identity is
That species identity does not correlate completely with any species that is known to exist anywhere in the history of this universe or in the known mythology/imaginations of humans
This identity is not a character or species we created in our imaginations, but rather feels like something that did, does, will, can, or should exist either in this world or another - therefore, OCkin doesn't fit
We also expressed frustration with how we are able to introduce ourselves when coming into new alterhuman spaces*. While others are able to be more succinct about their identities - for example, saying "I'm dragonkin" or "I'm a fox therian" - we would have to say something to the effect of "I'm a therian of an unknown species," which gives the wrong idea. It implies that we don't know what species we are, that we don't know what our experiences amount to, that we don't have any sort of image of who we are or what we should be.
The definition we settled on is "An identity that does not possess a formal name (and may be the only one of its kind/type)." As a note, the part about being the only one of its kind/type was added mostly by request of the others who were working on coining this term, but does seem to be an integral part of this type of identity. It was a commonality among all of us who worked on coining the term and the definition. Regardless, one of the most important things about this term is that it insinuates that yes, I do have an idea of what species I am, I do know what my experiences amount to, I have at least some image of who I am or what I should be, there just is no name for what I am.
Of course, this term doesn't negate our potential need to explain our identities further if someone should ask, but it is far easier to say that I am an anymic contherian than to say "I'm a contherian with a theriotype that has no known species name and is not something that is currently known to have existed/currently exist/someday exist, nor is it anything that has appeared in known human mythology/folklore/fiction." Yeesh. What a mouthful.
This is not a term I would necessarily recommend to the newly awakened alterhuman, but rather what I might call a "last resort" term. When you've exhausted all of the options that seem like they might fit, when you've done all the research that you could possibly do, when it just seems like you constantly try and fail to find that one identity that fits - that's when you take on the term anymic. Even more important to recognize, though, is that it's very possible that someday as you continue to search for potential fits, you might finally stumble across something that makes you say "that's it! That's me!" And that's just fine! Anymic isn't a static term that you're stuck with forever, but it's a term that will be there for you when you need it. After all, it's entirely possible that you could find something that makes you say "that's it! That's me!" only to later discover that maybe that doesn't fit either, and you go back to being anymic. The point is, while this is a term that should be considered a last resort, it's also a term that should not under any circumstances be gatekept by age or experience or by whatever one individual considers "enough" research or self reflection.
As for how to use it, it should be considered an extremely versatile term. It can be used on its own - one could simply be "anymic." It can also be used as a microlabel, such as the examples I've already given ("anymic therian"). It could even be used as a secondary identifier - for example, if someone has an identity that seems to be a un-named subspecies of a known species, or is part of a larger category (of whatever kind) but doesn't fit any known identities within that category, they could say they are an "anymic fox therian" or "anymic draconic otherkin." How it is utilized in a line-up of labels is entirely dependent on the individual who uses it, so long as it maintains the definition of being a known, understood identity that simply has no formal name.
I might be biased, but I think this is an important term to add to our general alterhuman vocabulary. Personally, one of the things that made me feel somewhat alienated from the rest of the community is that when introducing myself I have to either give less than the full story by saying that my theriotype is "unknown," or practically write an entire book about my identity. Coining this term with others who have been experiencing the same sort of feeling helped me immensely to see that I'm not the only one with an identity that doesn't have a proper name. To be able to just say "I know what I am, but I just don't have a name to give you to describe what I am" in just one word is honestly game-changing, and it would be incredible to see this term catch on so those of us who have this experience could even more easily connect.
Obviously use of this term by those who have this experience isn't a necessity, but it's an option that so far seems to be appreciated.
*When I say alterhuman spaces, I mean alterhuman spaces in general, not just therian/otherkin spaces. I am well aware that alterhuman =/= nonhuman identity, I promise! This post may be more focused on the nonhuman-type identities, but an anymic identity can apply to just about any identity that otherwise has no formal name.

Things to do when you're a newly awakened alter/nonhuman!
[PT: Things to do when you're a newly awakened alter/nonhuman! end of PT]
[Sorry for any spelling or wording mistakes, I don't speak English fluently]
1/Make an alterhuman journal
Do you have an old, almost empty notebook that you haven't used since the end of your middle school years? Or a little notepad that you received for your birthday and that lies at the bottom of the drawer that you never open? Now is the time to use it!
Write in it your alter/nonhuman journey, what made you wonder if you are alter/nonhuman, the research to find your type, if you are otherlink, what made you choose your type, if you are physically nonhuman, a portrait of how you see yourself in everyday life,...
I will probably do a post in the future on what to put in your journal :3
2/Don't lie to yourself...
Some newly awakened alters/nonhumans intentionally cause false flashbacks or force themselves to shift to feel legitimate... No Don't do this, it's okay if you don't have flashbacks or past life memories, it's okay if you don't shift, it's okay if your type isn't considered "cool" or if it is considered "too common" or "too rare" to be valid. Same for polyalter/nonhumans, it's okay if you really have a lot of types, don't worry. You're valid. You are yourself. Don't lie, just let yourself exist.
3/Ask questions to educated alters/nonhumans
Asking questions is literally a cheat code for educating yourself! Don't be afraid to share your questions on this subject, you will get very rich answers. But be careful which being you are talking because maybe it is not very educated himself...
4/Be interested in categories of alter/nonhumans who do not have the same experiences/beliefs as you
It's really interesting to understand these other communities better. It makes me despair when I see beings insulting other beings because their experiences are different... Getting to know and respect others is the key to avoiding these kinds of situations.
5/Search for your type!
For alters/nonhumans whose identity is often difficult to identify (otherkin, plantkin, therian, etc.), I recommend doing a lot of research and introspection. Make a list of all the species that could match you, draw a profile, ... There are many different methods to find out who you are. But don't use tests like "What is your theriotype", they are really not reliable (for information I am a feline and I did two tests in one they said I am a wolf and in another a fox so... yeah) Searches can last months and even years, it doesn't matter if you don't find it right away or if you make a mistake. You will find it, I promise you :3
For identities where the type is often easy to find (otherhearteds for example) you are very lucky 😅
For those whose choice of type is often voluntary (otherlink, copinglink, ect) take personality tests, do some research on what you most want/need to be,... Don't worry, you have the right to change your type!
Some alters/nonhumans don't have types, but that doesn't stop them from doing introspection exercises anyway!
For those who have already found their type, nothing prevents you from doing other research (to write in your alter/nonhuman journal, perhaps), for example fun facts about your type, types of gears not very well known that you would like to buy/make, learn how to draw it, lern their body language etc.
6/Make a den/nest!
Some being really like to make a cozy little corner just to become a little being in their cabin, and others like to make a majestic pillow fortress to protect themselves from human society. Get your covers on, let's go!
You can also create them outdoors, on your territory. (Don't forget to hydrate yourself, especially if it's hot)
Torn from Therian territory made tutorials (on YouTube) for indoor and outdoor dens, I recommend them!
7/Try to shift (if you want to/can)/species euphoria
I know that some alterhumans don't shift, can't voluntarily shift, or just don't like it, but sometimes shifting can be liberating and cause species euphoria (the opposite of species dysphoria).
If you don't want to/can't shift you can also do activities that bring you closer to your identity!
8/Make a scent marker!
If your type is territorial, I highly recommend this! It's a kind of little "potion" where you can find your scent + some plants that remind your scent and your territory, and you can spray it in your territory. Some beings add a little essential oil. Torn also made a video on the subject, "How to make a scent marker?".
⚠️Do not use environmentally harmful elements in this "potion"!⚠️
9/ Try activities related to your type/identity!
In our communities, when we talk about connecting with our identity, we often think of gears, quads, vocals,... But there are many other ways to get closer to your alter/nonhumanity! For example, a therian Ibex can practice rock climbing, a spacekin can learn astrophotography, an ockin can write a whole universe around his oc, a naturesoul can keep a journal where it tells all his past incarnations,... All forms of art can bring you closer to who you really are! (drawing, animation, story/poetry/song writing, music, etc.) No need to be an artist with incredible talent, try and have fun, it will already be a thousand times better than nothing! Even if you haven't found your type yet, let yourself be guided by your instincts and what makes you tick!
10/Read positive things about alter/nonhumanity
Sometimes, with the dramas, the insults from the anti, the non-accepting people, the doubt of really being an alter/nonhuman, the imposter syndrome,... There are times when you feel horribly wrong and misunderstood.
I really understand how it feels, when I first came into the community I was constantly asking myself "am I really therian?" "Is this just a teenage fantasy in search of identity?" "No one will support me..."And sometimes I would go on YouTube to take my mind off things and I would come across a stupid video that invited alter/nonhumans to commit the irreparable.
During this time I was only focusing on the negative part of being an alter/nonhuman. But, we must not forget these positive sides. We tend to talk more about our problems on Tumblr because for many, it's the only place they can confide freely. It's a way of "getting your emotional juices out", it's like therapy for some. But in reality, there are many positive and fun sides to being alter/nonhuman. It's true that by forgetting all that, it's more complicated to accept yourself as you are. Written alterhuman/nonhuman/objectkin/otherlink/therian/otherkin/ect positivity on Tumblr. You'll find so much comfort there!
I hope this helped you, remember, as long as you don't hurt anything or anyone intentionally, you are completely valid! You have the right to be yourself.
Take care of yourself, drink water and have an amazing day/evening/night!
Bye!
