Newfoundland and Labrador's post-secondary institutions have teamed up with an organization that can find housing for students, while helping to curb loneliness of seniors with room to spare.  SpacesShared, an online platform that helps pair seniors with empty rooms in their homes with students, has recently been launched in Newfoundland and Labrador. CEO Rylan Kinnon says the app uses an algorithm to match compatible students with older hosts interested in home sharing. "These are longer-term living relationships. We verify the host identity and their address. We verify the student's identity and that they are in fact enrolled at a post secondary institution," he said.  "Once they've actually connected through the platform, we support them. We check in with them a week after the student moves in and every month and if we identify any issues through that survey, we follow up with a phone call."

I finished sewing my second sealskin capelet!

As well as dark green dyed sealskin, it has a rabbit fur lining and trim, as well as an arctic fox tail as the collar. The strap is genuine leather and adorned with a mother of pearl button.

It is entirely sewn by hand.

National Rainbow Week of Action in Canada

In this post I have compiled all the information I could find regarding upcoming events for the Rainbow Week of Action. There are two online events, and dozens on in-person events across the country.

"Within the Rainbow Week of Action, we are pushing governments and elected officials at every level to take action for Rainbow Equality and address rising anti-2SLGBTQIA+ hate. As such, we have identified calls to action for every level of government. These calls to action can be reviewed here."

Spout Path, East Coast Trail, Cape Broyle, Canada: The Spout, a wave-powered geyser, is at the center of this path...The East Coast Trail (ECT) is a long-distance coastal footpath located in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. It is a developed trail over 336 kilometres long, the creation of which began in 1994. It is made up of 25 linked wilderness paths and passes through more than 30 communities. An act to establish a national eye care strategy has become law. Put forward by Liberal MP Judy A. Sgro, Bill C-284's goal is to provide accessible eye care to all Canadians, with an extra emphasis on serving rural populations. Dr. Nina Ahuja of the Canadian Ophthalmological Society says a large part of the importance of the bill is to make sure that comprehensive eye exams are made available to everyone, with a focus on ensuring that eye conditions are picked up early.
