Thinking about this page tonight. Remembering why the book makes people cry. This page would make me cry, right now, if I was still capable of such things.

A handful of states are eyeing laws that would allow criminal charges against school librarians for distributing books that contain "obscene matter."
Why it matters: GOP state lawmakers have in recent years increased their efforts to ban material they deem inappropriate from schools and libraries.
That material includes books on gender identity and sexual orientation.
Critics, including the American Civil Liberties Union of West Virginia, said the bill "is designed to create confusion for educators about what kinds of materials can be taught or displayed."
The American Library Association said this type of legislation would allow for "advocacy groups and parents to sue or prosecute library workers" for providing books and other materials that present "accurate medical information about sex or puberty, describe sexual behavior, or reflect the experiences of LGBTQ+ persons."
The ALA noted that such legal action would be "based on the false claim that any material that includes information about sex, sexuality, gender identity, or sexual orientation is legally obscene and inappropriate for minors."

Queensdaughter is a high fantasy, new adult/LGBT book, and is the first in the Queensdaughter Trilogy! Book 2, Stone & Leaf, is coming late summer 2025. Goodreads link & reviews is HERE
Navette lives a peaceful life in her home of Osala, managing a bakery that was passed down to her and her elder sister. The night of the spring festival of Emystre arrives, and the village is laid to ruin when ancient creatures—the skáiga—come in search of the Queensdaughter. Navette flees to the capital, where she discovers her fate as the heir to the throne and a world far more vast than she had ever imagined. This story follows Navette as she learns how to become a queen, control her innate magic, and battle the darkness that threatens her entire world. Meanwhile, her sister Ivy remains in Osala as the people try to rebuild a village from ruin, even as the darkness returns. In the lands of Varyn, not all is as it seems. The trees begin to whisper of danger, the dragons of old are little more than legends, and even queens have their secrets. Love and companionship are more valued than ever as Varyn begins to sink into darkness, but even after the darkest of nights, not all is lost.

Sorry if this is already listed somewhere, but do you have any good recommendations for wlw "new adult" type stuff? I'm pan (and ace) and desperately want some good wlw rep, especially for my own labels but I'm aware I probably can't be too picky. I used to read a ton of YA, but I'm over the high school drama bs, and full adult novels tend to not hold my attention because, quite frankly, they take too much energy that my ADHD brain doesn't have.
If this was answered elsewhere, sorry 😅 and thank you in advance for any rec's!!
I am an absolute fan of New Adult, so I am so excited to share some of my recommendations for it!

🌟✨LUNAR BOY GETS A THIRD STARRED REVIEW FROM SCHOOL LIBRARY JOURNAL!!🌟✨
Our little moon boy now has starred reviews from Kirkus, Publisher's Weekly, and now SLJ! We're so blown away that Lunar Boy is receiving such prestigious recognition, especially since it's about an intersection that is so underrepresented. 😭😭 There was a time I believed nobody would care to read this story, but with every post I'm tagged in and photo of my book reaching so many of you- I'm glad to be proven wrong! Thank you truly.

As an act of what is perhaps futile masochism, I counted how far my collection is & then got the numbers for my archival wishlist. I just wanted to see how far along I am in achieving my own unreasonable goals. These are the results.
Current archive count: 263 books
Current to-buy list count: 900+ books
Playing loose and fast with math that means I'm, what--20-22% of the way there? With that in mind, if there are any sugar mommies out there who have a niche interest in insane & unreasonable nerds, I would like to point out that I am available and also capable of mostly behaving. <3

A few of my favourite quotes from my new book Gender/Fucking: The Pleasures and Politics of Living in a Gendered Body:
“For what is gender but scar tissue arranged in the shape of a self?”
“Lacan can eat a cactus dick.”
“So I’m sitting there, crayola jizz on my titties…”
“May the bridges we burn offer warmth and comfort.”

Dandelion News - September 22-28

1. The slowest of trailblazers: Better DNA testing means trafficked turtles can go home
Tumblr media
““You don't want to just get a turtle and just throw it anywhere,” says Rodrigues, especially because box turtles have a big range, spanning numerous states. So [after they’re confiscated from black market animal traffickers] they wind up stuck in captivity. However, DNA testing has gotten cheap enough and good enough that individual box turtles can finally be traced back to the state where they came from.”
2. New progenitor cell type discovered, may aid in tissue repair and generation
Tumblr media
“A team of SAHMRI scientists has discovered a completely new type of cell that […] could be used to boost healing in conditions like diabetes, where the body struggles to repair itself properly. Crucially, these cells don't express typical "self" markers, meaning they could be ideal candidates for stem cell transplantation as they're much less likely to be attacked by the recipient's immune system.”
3. How a Children’s Playground Is Helping With Flood Mitigation
Tumblr media
“[This park sits above] a below-ground tank capable of holding hundreds of thousands of gallons of stormwater that city officials say would have otherwise spilled onto the streets or streamed into the basements[….] Others increase resilience with newly planted trees that can absorb carbon dioxide and airborne pollutants; once they mature, those trees also provide shade cover that can reduce the heat island effect of urban areas[….]”
4. Transforming agriculture from carbon source to sink
“The study results indicate that by 2050, these agricultural practices [using cover crops, biochar, and agroforestry] could reduce as much greenhouse gas emissions as planting new forests[….] Carbon sequestration on agricultural land is not only important for climate change mitigation efforts but can also enhance agricultural productivity and resilience to climate change[….]”
5. Rewilding success for long-lost bird population
Tumblr media
“Conservation charities have successfully completed the second round of rewilding of a long-lost bird breed in Dover [… after working] over 40 years to restore a suitable grassland for the birds. […] Earlier this year, 108 choughs fledged successfully in Cornwall, according to charity Cornwall Birds.”
6. Over 30 celebrities join auction to put LGBTQ+ books in classrooms
Tumblr media
“Pride and Less Prejudice is hosting its fourth annual #BannedTogether virtual auction this weekend with the goal of raising $20,000 to send 1,600 free LGBTQ-inclusive books to elementary schools across the United States.”
7. Advancement of Indian Buffalo Management Act Underscores Bipartisan Support for Tribal-led Buffalo Restoration
Tumblr media
“The advancement of [this Act] reaffirms bipartisan support of Tribal sovereignty, self-determination and capacity building for bison restoration on Tribal lands. […] The Indian Buffalo Management Act would secure funding for Tribes and Tribal organizations that have an established buffalo herd and management program, as well as provide resources for Tribes to establish new herds.”
8. Anti-inflammatory drug shows promise in boosting motivation for patients with depression
“Growing evidence suggests one potential cause of low motivation may be persistent inflammation, which suppresses activity within key circuits in the brain. […] Patients who received infliximab demonstrated a greater willingness to exert effort in pursuit of rewards compared to those who received the placebo. […] "By targeting inflammation, we're not only addressing the biological underpinnings of these deficits but also offering new hope for more effective treatment options."”
9. Pig transplant research yields a surprise: Bacon safe for some people allergic to red meat
Tumblr media
“Some people who develop a weird and terrifying allergy to red meat after a bite from a lone star tick can still eat pork from a surprising source: Genetically modified pigs created for organ transplant research. […] The company that bred these special pigs shares its small supply, for free, with allergy patients.”
10. Brussels tries out a novel rooftop wind turbine suitable for cities
Tumblr media
“Just like solar panels, the Renewind mini wind turbine can be installed on the roof of a building[….] Renewind's invention is designed to make the most of wind acceleration at the edge of the roof, a phenomenon that could produce between 1 and 3 MWh per year.”

Well, at the very least I'm gonna show off the cover I made for Names in Their Blood. It's some of my fav visual art I've done and it took me a million years. There's no "leaf" brush here. I just drew all those leaves. I wanted to give them a cut paper look and also a little bit of a fire look. For reasons.
And the ebook version.

Oh, How We Laughed* is now available for pre-order!
This anthology showcases short stories, poetry and artwork made by queer and disabled creatives, and strongly features indigenous, neurodivergent and transgender voices. It was edited by Reed and Storm Editing and also features work by head editor Cameron Rutherford.
Funds raised by sales will go to the Collaborative Radical Intersectional Performance Space, Drop In Care Space and Pay The Rent who all support local communities, and to the 15 featured creators.
This anthology is an exhibition of the strong emotions that connect humanity and make us all unique. Our fear, joy, loss, exhilarating highs, depressive lows, and so much more. How we express those emotions might be different, yet we all strive for a laugh.
(*Cried, chuckled, suffered, retreated, enjoyed, blanked, masked, cringed, smiled, consumed, planned, protested, disappeared, felt, ruminated, withdrew, celebrated, raged, meditated, screamed, froze, danced, existed…)
