They both try to be there for you and give you a safe space to express those emotions you suppress, they understand it will take time and it’s hard to break habits like that but they’re there for you if and when you need them

Jeanist especially will be sensitive to this and I think really dotes on you more than usual when he can sense you’re dealing with negative emotions

It’s good that you are sociable because both of them are also social, but they understand wanting to stick by people you know and are comfortable around

Both of them have a lot of expectations in their lives; the hero society and general public, the demon slayer corps, as well as internal pressure so they understand people pleasing well and might even have those tendencies themselves

They will help you to not do it too much to where you burn yourself out, if you want their help that is. If you just want them to be understanding and love you through it they’ll do that too

Honestly I think they are both so doting and wrapped around your finger they virtually never say no to you. Whatever you want is yours

Actually legit not even a joke I think I sit in my home and think about C!Dream and everything he could've been at least once per day. It's such a frequent train of thought for me I've gone down so many times and I always end up somewhere new and beautiful.

(also I'm gonna call the character Dream and refer to the content creator as Clay cause I hate typing out the tags before hand)

Cause like. Listen. A character like Dream can really work in any story if handled right. And he really could have worked in the SMP as a force of unrecognized unmitigated chaos with seemingly no end or way to control it. He did do that for a while but there was something externally, something outside of the narrative that never let his arc be realized.

While a lot of stuff influenced DSMP arcs in weird ways outside of the narrative (scheduling, drama, literally not knowing where the story was going), the worst offender has to be how much potential Dream could have had if Clay was willing to let go of his ego and be cyber bullied more.

Okay hear me out--

Dream is an asshole. We can all agree on this, right? He sucks, he's a shitty person who did awful things for seemingly no reason, a mad man desperately holding onto power and control because it's all he has in a world literally of his own making. The key to having a character who sucks this hard in your story is to have them be properly humbled.

The issue is that Clay, almost as a reflection of his character, refused to be humble. He seemingly always had to be in the right, his character always had to have a way out of situations, and if we take his word on it, Dream planned out everything.

But that's just. Not entertaining.

You wanna know what is entertaining?

Techno bullying Dream.

I'm so serious when I say the Prison Podcast might be my favorite individual DSMP stream. Dream keeps always trying to hold onto power both physically and psychologically, and it keeps failing because Techno is right there, being stronger than him in both regards without even trying.

When Dream is always beating everyone down and making them miserable we need scenes of the same happening to him and the only character to ever do that was Techno. Techno was so good at bullying Dream that 80% of their interactions were just him bulling Dream. Which is a needed contrast to show that as much of a manipulative little fuck Dream is, he's not immune to the very torment he puts others through.

He too is not above judgment, and the person judging him has kicked his ass in the past that he's known as one of the few people who's ever defeated Dream and considered his top competitor. And the best part is that Techno doesn't care even a little! He bullies Dream like it's breathing because Dream really is that easy to ridicule the minute he doesn't have power over someone.

Dream's such a loser that it's always fun to watch someone clown on him. The DSMP needed more moments where Techno or even other characters got to absolutely clown on Dream unchallenged. It would make his antics far more bearable and also his constant need to push against Techno's bullying is a revealing thing about his character but that's a whole other post.

Needless to say, Dream being bullied would be beneficial to the SMP also in terms of balancing out the comedy. Dream, despite being really funny sometimes, has a hard time being comedic once he starts being taken so fuckin seriously all the time. And his actions carry weight, I don't want to diminish that, I just want someone in the story to belittle him for everything he's ever done.

But I mean... We all know Clay wasn't going to let too much of that happen. Which is a damn shame.

Shout out to the timeline where the prison podcast was actually a subathon that went on until Phil checked on the stream and let Techno out of prison, I hope you guys know how good you have it.

more Minecraft movie thoughts because i'm worried they're going to half-ass the theme of creation i feel they might try going for.

it appears a couple times - the voiceover from Steve, the guy slamming a hammer on a crafting table to create... whatever that was. and that's really it but it's the most the teaser has given us for an emotional throughline.

like OK here's an optimistic version of what the movie might be like. they start out being like "this is cringe" but then they start getting into it. learning how to craft, how to build, how this new world works. the boy reaching for the log is followed by him placing it and actually appreciating it. slowly the things they mocked before start to look beautiful. they appreciate the dyed wool of the pink sheep instead of mocking it.

and then the pillagers piglins come, when they've become invested. and they start to tear everything down. something they built gets destroyed and that's when they realise, oh shit, they care about this world now.

it's not the most original story in the world, but it's a story suited especially well for Minecraft. a story about the beauty of the world, the ability to shape it and create, and the desire to protect it from destruction. have them be entranced more like they are in the opening, have them explore the world and find weird things, if we must isekai these bitches, go all in and have them fall in love with the world. to bring it up again, for all its faults Minecraft Story Mode proved definitively that you can make a story that is quintessentially Minecraft, all about its themes of creation and exploration, and tell engaging stories with it.

of course, this is only one of many many stories you could tell. the Fallen Kingdom series proves you can make a simple Minecraft invasion story compelling. series like Minecraft Diaries, Stampy's Lovely World, and DanTDM's mod showcases show off the fun you can have in a world like Minecraft's. the plethora of SMPs broadcast a range of stories - serious ones like the Dream SMP, or silly slice-of-life ones like Hermitcraft. you could tell a comedic story about a particularly eventful time in a Minecraft city, or a serious one about the more mysterious parts of Minecraft.

like, looking back at the teaser for the Mario movie. obviously there was a lot of discourse about Crisp Rat, but it showed actual love for the Super Mario franchise, and gave a clear tone for the movie. Bowser is a menacing villain, Mario is an everyman on a huge adventure. and then the trailers were goofy, it was a comedic adventure, but the comedy came from things happening (like Mario sucking at platforming or getting his ass beat) and not the characters going "well THAT just happened" to undercut the emotion.

maybe we'll get another trailer closer to release and we'll see the characters actually experiencing the world. but i'm. not hopeful!

Crazy how like. Dream SMP was my first discourse-heavy fandom that I was active in, so because of that I'll see themes in other shows and fandoms and immediately connect that to the arguments made about DSMP storylines and characters. And I'm sending you this bc you're the cprime connoisseur but the one I see SO SO often is the Ideal Victim vs the Angry Victim, where people will criticize a character when they don't react to trauma in a perfectly sympathetic way, yknow? Like they did w exile/post-exile chommy

In a show I'm watching rn there are two main characters you see this happening too, one of whom gets more and more withdrawn and listless, and increasingly turns to alcohol as the show goes on. The other character gets angrier and meaner, goes too far during arguments, etc. It's a very long, episodic comedy/drama, so the change is a lot more gradual as it isn't the Point of the show so much as something happening in the background, yknow? But the second character is SO much more divisive, whereas the first gets pretty much only sympathy.

The people watching these shows and hearing these stories are used to, in a narrative context, seeing the first traits as something to be pitied and the second as something to be condemned (while I know all of these behaviours are often condemned irl, regardless of their source), when really both of these characters are dealing with the same shit. You weren't meant to hate one and love the other, both characters are representative of what war does to people.

Then there’s the fact that Karl and Ranbob have to convince Ranboo that this random kid totally isn’t your descendant what ever could have possibly made you think something like that-

Fic Recs: Dream SMP

this fandom with its long and convoluted storyline is so amazing to me. i’ve loved following its journey, so now have some of my favourite fics!

Not even a little bit," – Rocketduo’s plan to kill Tommy with the nuclear test actually works, and when it solves nothing whatsoever (and Tubbo goes feral without his best friend), Jack Manifold goes on an epic quest through the underworld to bring him back to life and stop the imminent nuclear catastrophe. (I promise you, this is more a comedy than anything, but also there’s a fair amount of suicide talk. It’s not super graphic, but it's definitely there. Fair warning.)

this fic has managed to keep its comedic lighthearted tone whilst dealing with some heavy topics, and it is honestly hilarious. i love the expansion on limbo, the rocket duo moments and also the interactions with c!tommy & c!jack. it proves that nothing stops the jack manifold grind

This proves to be a problem when Tommy has been the thing keeping him burning for so long, but there is a solution to that, isn't there? Why not just... go back to hell, and pull Tommy out himself? What, like it could be that hard? (And hell, as always, reaches terrible hands back out for Jack.)

this fic has a very similar plot line to the previous one, however it is less comedic and much more descriptive and serious. i love all the ideas about what c!jack and c!tommy are like after being revived, and the imagery is so cool!!

“T-0, greet your new friend,” Wilbur ordered. Tubbo continued to watch as the robot’s eyes lit up, the blue illuminating, showing that he had received the order. He bowed his head down slightly, before lifting it back up and smiling softly. The actions, the smile. It was extremely realistic. He didn’t understand how Wilbur had managed to make something like this. Especially in such a short amount of time. “Hello,” the robot spoke, his voice lively. It was slightly rough, not at all artificial, “I’m T-0, it’s a pleasure.” -- Tubbo just had to keep reminding himself of the fact. This was a robot, robots can't feel emotions. Robots can’t feel emotions, right? Or, the Dream SMP but Tommy is a robot.

i love the progression of emotions in this fic, as they become steadily more apparent within c!tommy as time moves on. this fic is also has lots of c!wilbur bashing, if that’s your thing. regardless it is brilliant and also tubbo pov my beloved

at first i was kinda bummed about this ending but the more i sit on it the more I. like it? like i’m actually pretty happy with this. Crimeboys, Tommy telling wilbur off for not saying sorry and begging him not to kill himself and then pulling a sword on him and then asking him if he’s going to come back is so!!!! them!! He just wants clarity and if he doesn’t get it from wilbur he obviously won’t reflect it back! the idea of Wilbur going someplace that’s home rather than someplace new and different to escape is somehow more comforting, the fact that it was utah was just the bit of comedy that the dream smp was always had. I think the more I think about this the more satisfied with it i’ll be. It was pretty well done.

(i mean obviously no amount of fix it fics will make up for the moment of absolute whiplash when I thought he’d talk to q and then q Didn’t Fucking Show Up, but still.)

Hi! Thanks for asking. tl;dr, the “and colorful” makes the line more humorous; this post was an amused observation about how fanworks frequently make the events of the Dream SMP much more serious and dramatic than they are in the livestreams.

However, analyzing the text of DSMP is one of my favorite things to do! So here's my longer opinion: it changes the tone of the story you're telling.

It's been commented on, extensively, that Technoblade has a storytelling style which is inherently more comedic than some of the other "actors." Most recently, note the Prison Podcast stream: Dream is screaming, desperate for an escape from his torment, and Technoblade responds with "So, you got a Wattpad?" He's so calm and unconcerned in the face of what is, objectively, a horrific situation, that it becomes funny and relieves the tension that can come from long, dramatic scenes.

Whether or not you enjoy this style is up to you; we do, as you can probably tell from the everything about this blog. It's funny, it's light, it's a relief. On the contrary, if you don't like it, you probably think it ruins the tone, or it feels out of place next to the more serious actors.

Now, on the line "as painless and colorful as possible," the "and colorful" part is the humor. Technoblade is being told to kill Tubbo. He has been stalling and sidetracking, but time is up and no help is coming. He looks Tubbo in the eye, says “I’ll make it as painless as possible,” and raises his weapon. This is a scene you could find in just about any hard-hitting action movie. It’s devastating in its simplicity and its acknowledgement of their helplessness; he cannot save his friend, the only thing he can do for him is make the death swift.

But that’s not what he said. He added “and colorful.” Tubbo does not care if he dies, or he dies in a shower of rainbows; either way he's dead. This line is then funny because it's so out of place: Tubbo is going to die and you're talking about a firework show???? In the original stream, it was a moment of humor and relief.

Most of the story-based animatics, however, lean in to the dramatic part of the DSMP story. And this is their choice! To be clear, it's not a bad thing, per se, that any fan-work chooses to emphasize the drama over the comedy. And so, to fit that line in to their story, they edit out "colorful," because it's ridiculous for a menacing executioner to say "okay, gotcha, I'll murder him with the rainbows."

The effect, though, is that these story-based animatics are often how new fans catch up on a year of fragmented, confusing plot scattered across hundreds of hours of streams. And if that's the only way you learn plot, it gives you a very, very skewed idea of what actually happened in the streams.

I ANALYZED ALL OF THE NEW SONGS ON RANBOO'S LORE PLAYLIST - HERE'S WHAT I FOUND

Back in March, I listened to every single song on Ranboo's DMCA Lore Playlist. I came up with a solid theory, published my evidence and that was that. My work was done.

But nope! Ranboo's back and he's deleted a ton of songs and added more. And so I listened. Again. And I'm back with a theory, and it does not look good.

This new batch of songs shows us that this is a new era of c!Ranboo. Redesign Your Logo is meant to tell us that things are changing, and so is c!Ranboo. This could be do to the fact that something bad is most likely going to happen to c!Ranboo in the near future, probably the taking of his first canon life. Songs like Eyewishes and Goodbye heavily point to the ending of a chapter (or life) of c!Ranboo. The song Blue Monday isn’t anything revolutionary, as we were already well aware of the toxic relationship between c!Ranboo and c!Dream. Another thing to point out is that Everybody Wants To Rule The World sets up an interesting take on nuclear weapons, a thing that c!Tubbo has and c!Ranboo doesn’t know exists. If c!Ranboo were to find out about the nukes, it could lead to the two fighting over whether or not they were a good thing. Going into Time Moves Slow, the narrator there discusses a relationship that just ended between them and their lover, meaning there could be a c!Beeduo divorce arc in the near future.

Redesign Your Logo (Lemon Demon) - This song is about a pdf that went around during 2009 about the Pepsi company logo. In it, the Arnell group is trying to sell Pepsi a new logo, so that they can make tons of money. I feel that this song symbolizes evolution and growth, we’re entering a new era of c!Ranboo. He’s redesigned and rebranded. This song could also be on this playlist because of a fan animation on youtube set to the same song by Shyshui.

Everybody Wants To Rule The World (Tears for Fears) - This song was written about the Cold War between The Soviet Union and The United States that happened during the 20th Century. The main line of the song ‘Everybody Wants to Rule the World’ is about how everyone wants power, and the misery that it brings with it. This is a theme we can see clearly on the DreamSMP, with many leaders such as c!Eret, c!George, c!Bad, c!Wilbur, and c!Dream all leading lives of misery in one way or another. This is also important for c!Ranboo, as he is the most powerful man on the server. It tells us that his power will soon be his misery. Also a small little thing I’d like to point out is the line ‘Say that you’ll never, never, never, never need it’ which is meant to be about the use of nuclear devices during that time period. Many governments had them but claimed they would only use them if another country was launching a nuclear attack. This could translate to c!Tubbo owning nukes and c!Ranboo possibly finding out, which could cause discourse between the two.

Blue Monday (New Order) - Blue Monday is about the singer pondering the mistreatment of their person by someone they trusted. The person seems to be manipulative and toxic for the singer but the singer is too far under their control to leave them. Immediately we can tell that this song is most likely about the relationship between c!Ranboo and c!Dream. c!Dream uses c!Ranboo as his errand boy, making him do all sorts of tasks, although this hasn’t really happened since the Disc War Confrontation. However, we know the c!Dream still has some sort of hold over c!Ranboo because we saw c!Sapnap trigger an Enderwalk episode by giving c!Ranboo a message from c!Dream.

Eyewishes (Lemon Demon) - Eyewishes is a song about a distraught man who has no eyelashes, as he used them all on wishes, and now he can make no more wishes. The man pours out his frustrations and then resolves to committing suicide. While I don’t believe c!Ranboo would take his own life, I believe that he soon will die. The last line of this song is ‘So take care of my plants and pets and now I’ll say good-’. c!Ranboo has many pets in his care and he would want them taken care of after he dies. I could see him saying this line to a character like c!Tubbo. However, c!Ranboo is still on three canon lives and would not perma died if killed.

Bystanding (Lemon Demon) - Bystanding is the direct sequel to Eyewishes, starting off with bi, completing the phrase ‘goodbye’ started at the end of Eyewishes. Other than this, the song has no real points of interest as it’s just the singer repeating different words, working his way up from 2 to 5.

Goodbye (Bo Burnham) - I’m going to split this song up into two sections, just because I think there’s a lot to cover here. Let’s start pre-bridge. For context, Goodbye is the final track from the comedy-musical special Inside, done by Bo Burnham. Bo says the special was a long project for him as he filmed the entire thing in his house during COVID-19 Quarantine. The beginning part of this song talks a lot about how Bo doesn’t want the special to be over because now he has nothing else to do, and he’ll just have to live his life. This could translate into c!Ranboo losing a lot of things that he worked for, such as his valuables (totems and riches) and just being a normal person again. It could also signify an ending of a chapter for him, maybe his marriage ending, his partnership with the Syndicate ending. However, I believe that its most likely to be c!Ranboo’s neutrality ending. During the recent lore stream he did with c!Wilbur, we finally saw c!Ranboo pick a side. He chose Wilburger over Las Nevadas, losing his trademark neutral stance. c!Ranboo thought his neutrality made him more than others, that he was the one able to see over the conflict, but now he’s just like everyone else. He has a side and an enemy. Let’s move into the bridge and ending of the song now. The first line I’d like to call specifically is ‘Wanna guess the ending, if it ever does.’ This line could maybe signify the fact that throughout the history of the SMP there have been many times that the conflict and story feel like they’ve finally come to a close, only for everything to start up once again. The next lyric is ‘If I wake up in a house that’s full of smoke, I’ll panic, so call me up and tell me a joke.’ This is a callback to another song on Inside, Comedy, in which Bo talks about using his comedy as a way to help people, but really it was he who needed help. c!Ranboo acts as a protector for a lot of characters, most notable c!Tubbo and tried hard to please most people and aid as many as he can, but most of the time he’s the one needed the most help. Similar to Bo, c!Ranboo doesn’t realize he needs help until it’s too late.

Time Moves Slow (BADBADNOTGOOD and Samuel T. Herring) - This song is about a person who’s lover has left them, and although it’s painful they know its for the better. This could, unfortunately, suggest a c!beeduo split but there is another part of this song that I’d like to touch on. ‘Running away is easy, its the living that’s hard.’ This is the chorus for the song and it talks about how running from your problems is easier than facing them but having to live without them is hard. Throughout the story, we often see c!Ranboo ignore his problems, most recently with the vandalism of c!Tubbo’s cookie shop. c!Ranboo found it and decided to fix it and tell no one it happened, which lead to a hostile confrontation between c!Quackity and c!Tubbo.

I was adding onto the DSMP Actor AU post, but it turned into Wilbur musician AU, haha rip me, and I only know SBI anyways so here’s a separate post. (It goes back to actor AU at the end.) It’s hypothetically still in the same universe though, and obviously inspired by it. If anything’s phrased weirdly, it’s cuz this was originally an addition to that.

Wilbur is an indie artist really on the come up

Your City Gave Me Asthma was pretty good for a first release, popular with both new fans and fans of his acting.

He had starred in a short mystery/thriller-ish series that started off disguised as a normal sitcom: Chilly in Lincolnshire {Editor Wilbur ARG}

It had a prominent release because of Jack Massey’s involvement and previous fame, but production was abruptly scrapped before it tied everything up with a bow on top, so to speak. It’s still unclear if this was actually planned in order to tell the story the way they way wanted. 

Even before that, critics had mixed reviews, either applauding the storytelling and acting or calling it “irrationally confusing, an amateurish attempt to box unconventional storytelling into a conventional medium.”

Also SootHouse was a sitcom that achieved a cult following during the two seasons it ran before cancellation. Either you’re a fan or you’re never heard of it, and people constantly forget Wilbur was in it. 

(He was a few other old shows on his resume too. Wilbur always focuses on the newest project, so everyone always forgets about what he was in before.) 

Maybe I Was Boring EP was initially just bonus tracks on his website, but his fans liked it so much he gave it a wider release

In between, he had a few comedy songs go viral on youtube. Everybody was so confused when they realized it was the same Wilbur as musician/actor Wilbur. He laughed about it in an interview, saying “How many Wilburs do you know?” 

That’s when it came out that “Wilbur Soot” was actually a stage name. (”Ha, fair, only one.” “Make that zero-- my name’s not really Wilbur.”)

He kinda disappeared after that?? Didn’t do anything, really inactive on social media. It was semi-confirmed that he was both working on his mental health and prepping some stuff (music, auditions).

But anyways he just released a series of singles, combined into Digital Love {E-girl trilogy}-- he’s transformed his image yet again, but this time he does take ownership of all his past ventures.

The release of Digital Love bridges the end of SMP Earth and the beginning Dream SMP. 

But before that there was MCC and the other stuff.

They are shows where celebrities team up do stuff-- you know the type 

but Minecraft Monday is still inexplicably Minecraft Monday. Some Youtuber just managed to get all these up and coming celebrities to play a Minecraft tournament. 

And that’s where the Sleepy Bois (minus Tommy) met IRL so that’s where they meet here. 

SMP Earth, like Minecraft Manhunts, is also a former show they were on. I’m going to call it World Domination. Don’t @ me; I know that’s trash lol. 

They and the Dream Team met up because of their shared fanbases and were even talking a crossover, but it didn’t really work that well for the stories so they scrapped it

They make a non-canon cross over episode anyways {no IRL equivalent, I think}

Everybody loves the cons. Everytime there’s a con, five friendships are made and eight ideas are created. 

Techno backstory time

He’s done a lot of long running, though not exactly popular, serials and sitcoms: Blitz, Survival Games, and Sky Wars. 

Winstreak: 1000 {Bed Wars 1000 winstreak} was so popular they made a second season, but it never got as big as the first. He worked nearly exclusively with Hypixel Studios. 

He was doing lots of random content for their new Sky World universe {Skyblock} -- the small studio was big on experimentation -- , when a fictional documentary, The Great Potato War, went proper viral. 

They made two sequels WHILE he was doing those celebrity team challenge shows and then World Domination, and they were actually good sequels.

Got a reputation for being shallow and a sell-out, but he makes a joke of it so much he gets away with it and constantly self-promos.

Also a kinda scary to work with for the first time because of how single-minded he can get, but once you realize how socially awkward he is it’s okay.  

Now that’s he’s in a lot of stuff with worldbuilding, he practically has the wikis memorized. 

Tommy mainly did limited series and movies before World Domination, where he met the SBI.

He’d had been a fan of Wilbur for a while, and was super star-struck at first, but got over it really quickly in his Tommy style

He still is a total fanboy at concerts and whenever a new music video drops. “I’m friends with the guy! I know him, Wilbur Soot!” “Tommy, you’re famous too.” “Yeah, cuz I’m practically in the video!” “No--” 

Wilbur takes Tommy to one of his concerts and he’s so hyped the entire time, especially to go behind the scenes and on the stage. 

Sometimes he gets stressed about the pressure of being a child star, but Techno, Philza, and Wilbur promise to stand by him and they make him feel protected 

One time Wilbur’s drunk and almost hands Tommy a drink before swearing and going, “You’re a bloody child! You can’t have that! God, what would Philza think?” Tommy’s not sure whether to be relieved or disappointed. 

Philza laughs at the story and actually lets Tommy try a little in a more controlled, responsible situation. Tommy texts his mum first, and then hates the drink anyways. (”This is rubbish! I am a man, but I’m not drinking this!” Techno: “Alcohol is disappointing. I drink orphan’s tears instead.” “Techno WHAT--”)

Philza had been the star of a zombie apocalypse show: Golden Core 

He did canonically die to a child zombie in the movie version. Yes, they made a movie version of the TV show, because the Golden Core franchise actually has had many other shows {other hardcore series}. 

Everybody tries to get the child zombie props near him because of that (they’re puppets)

He’s done a lot of other things, like in the original actor AU post, but none of them came close in popularity. 

He gives the rest of the SBI the knowledge he’s gained from being in the biz for so long. 

There’s also a running joke about SBI meaning “Spy Boys Incorporated” and them starring in a comedy spy movie

The fans would very much actually like this to happen. There’s so many fanons for it (maybe I’ll write one....) 

Back to the DSMP. Maybe I’ll call it Dreamland or smth. 

Wilbur constantly asks Tommy if he’s okay after any difficult scenes

Especially when they were hanging out together a lot in the exile arc.

All the brother scenes were cut because Wilbur kept breaking down and crying in them.

Sometimes people actually ask Techno and Tommy if they’re actually brothers. Tommy tries to go along with it half the time on the basis of “it’s be funny,” so there’s a subset of casual fans that genuinely don’t know. 

After Alivebur was killed off, Wilbur was going to leave the show to concentrate on his music

But he missed the SMP and hanging so much that he just showed up on set one day saying “I’m a ghost now,” and everyone just rolled with it

Alivebur was so popular that, seeing that Wilbur was willing, they decided to bring him back for Season 3. He’s been avoiding doing heavy scenes, but he still seems really invested and like he wants to come back to the show.

Wilbur talks with Techno about writing and lore a lot

Wilbur attempted to get a D&D group going in the cast, but the show was already close enough, with the amount of improvisation they can get by with

Tommy’s Pigstep cover happened, but the background was Philza clapping barely in time with just Wilbur on bass instead (and of course Techno’s “BAHP”s)

It was a charity stream. They had put on their costumes (clothes only) for a previous goal. 

This one was simply called “We rap.”

Some people were almost disappointed that Tommy was the only one actually rapping, but he was so funny it made up for it.

So, bear with me, because I want to talk about a handful of favorite songs from the Dream SMP musical. Every single song is brilliant, and a testament to the talent and dedication of the people in this fandom, but a few just hit SO hard for me, and I wanted to talk about them for a bit. I’m so overtired, so this is going to be incoherent af but this is Tumblr so I cannot bring myself to care. Also I know nothing about music 

Song one! The Mad King Wilbur! by Ari

Honestly, it’s the chorus that does it for me. And then those medieval sounding tunes, the reign/rain wordplay! And the singer has just...the most enjoyable voice. And then those harmonies hit, and it makes me want to cry in a good way. It’s just creepy enough and soothing enough to really get across those evil!Wilbur vibes, and I love it. 

Song two! Regret, by Ian Has Opinion

This might actually be my favorite. I love Eret, and this characterization is just so on point. SO ON POINT. The minor key, the lyrics, the pace, I TRADED YOUR SOULS FOR A KINGLY CROWN NEVER KNEW I DOOMED THIS WHOLE DAMN TOWN I mean, it hits so hard every single time. Also, the raw emotion in the singing and words,“laden in sorrow, baptized in steel” like, this is Minecraft Men, not Shakespeare, but damn, now I’m crying. 

Song three! Disappear by candlebard

Another villain Wilbur song, but a completely different vibe. It’s just so soft and sad, and takes us through Wilbur’s thought process in a way that shows both how desperate and unhinged he’s become, while believing that he’s in the right. Also just, candlebard’s VOICE is the most gorgeous thing. The music is so perfect and understated, and that “shiny bullies” line gets me every single time. Just, do yourself a favor and LISTEN TO THIS SONG. I want to learn how to sing just so I can preform this at a talent show. 

Song four! Fight with Fire by Ian has Opinions 

Dudes, the day I’m tired of Ian has Opinions music is the day I DIE. This is such a great characterization of Fundy. It covers his arc after the Election, and describes his complicated feelings for his country, friends and his father (daddy issues pog), and his desire to “cast his own shadow.” And all these metaphors, and then the chorus hits and I just LOSE IT. “BUT I’M MORE THAN A CHILD OF YOUR STORYBOOK WAR” like what are these gorgeous lyrics????? FUNDY STANS LISTEN TO THIS. And then the concept of fire coming back again and again with a new meaning each time, along with the idea of foxes, and then “I FIGHT WITH FIRE,” I---- AHHHHHHHH

Song five (honorable mention) Taking Ls by Quackity

I love the way dream smp is shaped as a form of entertainment (I'm pretty sure there are different projects like this, but I'll take dream smp as an example cause I'm hyperfixating on it).

It's really one of the new and unique forms of storytelling. It combines different genres in equal measures and it works perfectly because we see the story from different perspectives.

You like comedy, pranks and funny bits? Watch Tommy's stream of showing Ninja around. Want something calm and relaxing with a bit of storyline? Techno's streams about war preparations are your thing. Want action, heavy lore and battles? Well, there's a lot of perspectives for that, but all the war and rebellion streams would work. Have daddy issues and want to relate to someone? Fundy's streams are full of that stuff. There are far more examples, but you definitely will find something you like.

The plot is half scripted, which means it has a cohesive storyline with plot points that you can distinguish. But also? Improv all the way! The dialogues and many reactions are unscripted and presented to you as they happen to ccs themselves.

The lore can be thought out and written down, but sometimes it's all a spur of a moment thing! Something that we, the audience, actually have a say in. Ranboo saying he searches social media and adds the head canons he liked to his character makes me feel happy and proud of all the people that spend time theorizing!

Also, the constant interactions on social media are a big part of it. The ccs see and react to fan art, animations and other ways fans show appreciation, and it makes the fandom an important piece of the puzzle that is the dream smp.

Such a huge project takes a lot of hard work to keep in check for it to not turn into a complete mess, and Dream and all the creators on the smp are nailing it (even when it does feel like a fever dream at times, hehe).

All in all, I'm glad I found out about it and can enjoy all the unique advantages it gives to the viewer.

The end of L’manburg was disappointing (and why rollercoasters and fun)

I really wanted to like this war. I really did. And I did like many things (Which I will go through don't worry) but... Look, the event was not bad by any means. But this is the first big event that I can say was mediocre at worst and good at best. A solid 6/10 maybe (All other story arcs and events are from a 8/10 to 10/10), specially after the marvelous festival from yesterday. So let’s see first the things that worked: 

- FUNDY AND NICKY POPPED OFF. Them destroying the provisions before the start was great because it did not only made sense for their (Very tired of being sidelined and very tired of L’manberg’s bullshit) but it also had plot repercussion. In a story, for an action to be significant it has to have two things going for it: An emotional repercussion and a plot repercussion. This had both: Two og L’manburgian giving up on their nation and causing the L’maburg forces to be under-and I can’t stress this enough- very under prepared. In Eret’s case it is a lot harder to justify because her arc was never very consistent as I have said before. 

-The villains were very smart and intimidating. First the chose to attack L’manberg the day after the festival giving them little to no time to prepare. Second, they attacked earlier and devised a plan to cause the most destruction possible. Dream and Techno are many times smarter than many movie villains. 

-Tommy exposed Techno for the hypocrite and selfish pig he is. Good for him.

-Anything Ranboo does is gold of course. But, I think joining Phil is a bit of an iffy decision. For someone who doesn’t choose sides he surely chose the one that caused the most destruction and pain for all of his other friends. He is probably one of the most exciting people to watch in the future

-Tubbo jumping in front of Techno’s blast to protect Tommy (I do not want Tubbo to die because he is probs my favorite but that would have been a cool canon death). Tommy asking about Tubbo every 5 seconds. Both apologizing to each other and reuniting finally. Tubbo looking at everything he had built being destroyed, completely speechless. Tommy and Tubbo meeting Dream in the obsidian thing over L’manber. It had a weird final boss feel to it. I wish something had happened between the three there. Maybe a short fight or something. It was still cool.

So, yeah. There is a lot to like about the event. Now I have three main problems with this event: 

My first problem is that it all felt a bit... pointless. This reminded me a lot of the movie Captain America: Civil War. It was a great movie, but it did not have almost any consequences. In today’s event L’MANBURG WAS DESTROYED FOR GOOD THIS TIME and... it doesn’t feel like anything has changed at all. Tommy is still on about the disks even after everything he’s been through. Quackity is still... honestly I never know what is going on with him. Techno and Phil are still assholes and have all the power along with Dream. The badlands still haven’t done a thing (A shame). You can say that Wilbur is going to be revived, and yes that is pretty big, but he has been alive before (I actually love that he is being resurrected surprisingly, I’ll talk about it later). You can also say that L’manburg is gone now but... was it really there ever since Tommy was exiled considering everyone basically left?

It feels like we could have skipped everything after Wilbur blew L’manberg and everything would be the same. Like everything in between did not matter. Think of it, is there any major differences (Besides minor character changes) between the end of the Manberg vs Pogtopia war and now? Probably not many. This goes back to what I said in my first post: History is repeating itself a little to much. Another exile, another festival, another execution, another time L’manburg is destroyed. At least there is not going to be another election anytime soon. 

I think Tommy’s line to Techno that “You are repeating history but worse” is very ironic. The idea that history repeat itself is tempting and, when done efficiently can be amazing, but this was not the case. I cannot blame theme though, a “history repeats itself” story is very hard to write without feeling like you are repeating yourself. But they were so close. The Schlatt/Wilbur and Tommy/Tubbo parallels are a great example of it because it had the two things that a “History Repeats itself” plot needs: A new emotional background (The Tubbo/Tommy friendship breaking) and a final change (When both decide not to become like their predecessor). That’s right. You can argue that this war had a different emotional background but the end result was the seem. This type of stories are only satisfying if we see the change at the end, imagine how great it would have been if they managed to resolve their differences and truly unite against Dream and stop L’manburg from blowing up. 

That is my second problem. I am not against the idea of L’manburg ending for good. But it happened at a very random part of the story. L’manburg, the place that started it all perished because a pig felt betrayed by a friend and Dream was being his usual self. Compare this to the last time it blew up: A fallen hero destroying what he built because he wouldn’t let anyone else have it. It just doesn’t compare. And honestly, we are mostly sad that it is gone because of the first war, the election and the manberg vs pogtopia arcs. If the end goal of three months of storytelling is to destroy L’manburg, why did they spend three months showing how shitty it has become and how everyone left? This last point sections nicely to my last problem

My third and final problem is that it all seems a little samey. Now listen to me on this one. Do you know why the Deadpool movies are so effective at making you laugh? Because it mixes dramatic moments with comedy very well, each dramatic moment elevates the next joke and vice versa. It is also why Tommy’s lore streams are so good, when you juxtapose both drama and comedy it works very well. Like a rollercoaster, the fun comes from all the ups and downs. But can you truly say there were any up moments since the manberg vs pogtopia war. Not really, maybe some but nowhere new as good as the up moments in previous arcs and nowhere near as present. That is why this past three months feel very samey. It has been just constant dread and sadness with very few good moments storywise. Compare this to before when Wilbur was the main writer: Eret betrayed everyone and Dream blew up some of L’manberg, but they won the war and got their independence. Pog 2020 lost the election but Techno joined them and most people were secretly helping from the shadows. They got back L’manburg from Schlatt but Wilbur and Techno betrayed them. See how it has a great mixtures of ups and downs? Today’s event would have benefited from at least one ray of sunshine at the end, maybe a new piece of information returns, or Tommy and Tubbo have a final talk and resolver everything, or something nice for a change. (Wilbur being resurrected does not count, he traumatised everyone, I would not say that is a very happy thing, more of a mixed bag) 

But I don’t want come off as too negative. But now I am being cautious of the storyline. I think the next couple of stream are going to be key. There is still hope that some of these problems will be addressed. Even if they are not, the story will have suffered it’s first big dud (Which is a testament to how good and capable everyone is of telling a great story). 

PS: English not my first language. You know the drill. I am once again not sending hate to anyone ever. There is nothing wrong with criticizing what you love, I think it is kind of necessary in a weird way.

PS2: I also have hope because I believe that Wilbur is coming back as a writer. On a stream (When he saw Matpat’s theory) he said the was “not currently writing the story” which I found as very suspicious wording. That and Alivebur returning I think makes a pretty compelling case for his return as a writer, I don’t see him as the type of guy that would just return so that someone else would write his character. On another note I hope the current writer don’t feel pressured to follow Matpat’s theory just because he is a big youtuber. While not a bad theory by all means (As soon as Ghostbur said he wanted to be alive my first thought was Quackity and Schlatt) but I would prefer it if they were not manipulated by outside sources to make the story a certain way. 

PS3: I have other things I would like to cover. Mainly, I have three ideas for future essays: an analysis of the medium the smp storyline is being made and why it is harmful to it’s story (Specifically it’s eventual ending), a study of how Ranboo’s philosophy causes more harm than good and a “What if” essay of how many road the smp could have taken with it’s story after the manberg vs pogtopia war. I will probably do all three of them eventually but if anyone wants a specific one I can do it no problem. Also, if anyone wants to interact or give their opinions or criticize my ideas you are more than welcome to. I have no friends who are into mcyt and I love the back and forward of different opinions and ideas.
