want to go back to when i was in oxford that one sunny day and found a spot by a winding river near a little babbling brook, it was such a perfectly round mound of earth that the water curved around. i sat there and i never felt more like alice. i can't remember if that was the same trip as the one i saw yannis at, but that too was the most hilarious coincidence i had happen to me in oxford. i was literally on an alice tour with a group and out of the blue yannis (the absolute loml at the time) passed me by, him and jimmy. i hesitated like i was frozen on the spot for quite a while until he passed, and then the worm in my brain told me to follow him. i ran down a few blocks of town centre, the high street, there was such a crowd and so many people. i really hoped he would materialize somewhere, like in those movie moments where the couple loses each other and loses all hope but then ah! there he is again. but nope, no such thing happened. i lost him, lost the group, and there was something pretty funny about all of it. literally followed the white rabbit...

i've felt like so many iterations of alice now i think about it, in my life. sometimes i'm book alice, sometimes i'm disney alice, in less than savory dreams i'm russian alice, and other times...other times i'm american mcgee's alice. that one came round in early teens and she stayed, oh boy did she stay. for a while i thought that was the only alice i could be, but now i can see easily how i'm all and any iterations of them. that girl and her wonderland...my god. what a metaphor. i've been alice since birth, i think.

when i was a child and sad that i couldn't really be alice because she had blonde hair, my mother pulled out the vintage photographs of the alice liddell that lewis carroll took. i saw a brunette girl staring back at me, one who looked like me, who could be me. it made me so happy. that memory is so old i don't even know what age i was when it happened. but it happened.

one of the richest most interesting facets of rhaenyra and alicent’s relationship is there are zero universes in which they get to be together while retaining the core of who they are. like even as we speed closer and closer to annihilation and the spectre of former “girlhood” hovers between them…. there is no future which allows them anything more than shared adolescence. they are not equals. aemma lives? otto arranges an advantageous match for alicent. rhaenyra is not named heir? she would still be a princess, probably also matched and sent away from king’s landing. alicent is her lady, and rhaenyra is always her princess. daemon or no daemon, aegon or no aegon, they are always destined to be longing for a fairy tale that doesn’t exist. and that’s so compelling because it doesn’t matter that it could never be, it’s comforting! they want to reach for each other! but it’s never anything more than a mirage, even without the dance.

The Green family dynamics are so interesting because like, Viserys is the father but due to his decay he seems more like the grandfather, whereas Otto is the Grandsire but seems to fill out the role of a father more, not only to his daughter but also her children, so he and his daughter are a mother/father unit but in some situations Alicent is treated like a sibling to her children (by Otto) and then you have the obvious Helaena/Aegon happening (siblings who are also husband/wife and mother/father to their children), but at the same time it seems like Aemond is the one trying to be the family's protector and attempting to step up as patriarch, with some of the scenes between him and Alicent giving off the vibes of equals rather than Mother and Son (like when they discuss Aemond finding Aegon) and his relationship with Aegon seeming like he's the big brother and not the other way around, in this essay I will-
