FEMALE MOVIE/TV RECS (PART 1 / FANTASY)

got inspired from a recommendation post so decided to make a list of movies and shows with female-centric stories/female protagonists. since i can't post all of the genres in one post, i'll split it into multiple posts and y'all can save or add to the list as you wish. (disclaimer: i have watched most of these, but i only know about the existence of others. not every movie/show on these lists will be my recommendation. my recommendations will be beneath the list with reasons. also some of these are way better than others in terms of storytelling/performance--which is why i'll list my faves separately):

PERSONAL NOTES FOR THE ONES I'VE WATCHED

The School for Good and Evil

There were many things about it that were good. The chemistry between the two leading actresses, the primacy of friendship over romance, the effects, the costume and set design, the insane cast (Charlize Theron, Cate Blanchett, Michelle Yeoh, Kerry Washington?!) and the score. Some of the performances were good, too. The pitfalls of the film had more to do with the writing and directing. Some scenes were rushed, some dialogue was embarrassingly bad, some plot points were just nonsensical and childish. The magic system was also not well executed (though I've seen worse).

It's mostly mid, but the ending is refreshing for the fairytale genre and if you like fairytale fluff, you'll probably be more willing to forgive the film's transgressions. If you can, there'll be a lot of fun left to have with it.

2. Damsel

6.5/10

More action than fantasy and with a much smaller cast. Most of the movie focuses on Millie's character. The performances in this were pretty good, though. If you like heroines getting revenge, non-cliche fantasy stories involving princesses, and dragons, this movie is right up your alley! Also the costuming is delightful! It's predictable, but it is also entertaining.

3. Willow

7/10

This show was just fun. Fantastic effects, female heroics, tomfoolery, lesbians, action, evil forces, cool costuming, lesbians, sword-play, riddle-solving, dumbass princes, sarcastic mentors, and lesbians! This show knew exactly what it was trying to be. Aside from some poor performances, my overall impressions is positive.

4. Wednesday

7/10

I personally enjoy Wednesday Addams' character wherever I see her. Having a whole show of her was just a treat. I didn't care for the typical highschool-shenanigans (like the cliques) as much, but there were many enjoyable elements in this for me. Particularly, the effects, the crime, the other female characters, and the ending. It's entertaining and pretty to look at. Also I'm always on my wenclair propaganda.

5. Shadow & Bone

6/10

I've read the Six of Crows duology and the first book of the Shadow & Bone trilogy, so for me this show was a let down. For new watchers, however, you'll find interesting female characters, cool effects, and an entertaining (though sometimes choppy) plot. Inej Ghafa is my queen forever, regardless.

6. Renegade Nell

7/10

This is puts the fantasy in revenge fantasy. I love all the actresses from Derry Girls, and Louisa Harland is still charming in this. It's basically if Gentleman Jack (same director, I think) and Tinkerbell teamed up. Or if Little Women was also Pirates of the Caribbean but instead of taking to the sea it was highway robbery! The action sequences are so fun, the villains are nuanced (particularly the villainess) the comedy isn't overbearing (like I forgot I was watching a Disney show tbh) and the silly towel boy from Ted Lasso is here! I personally had fun. I hope it's renewed.

7. Alice in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass

7/10 (i love these so much so it's 8/10 for me)

It sucks that Depp is in this, but I can never ever forsake my girl Mia Wasikowska. I just love these movies. I love the design, the music, the costumes, the irreverence toward marriage and romance, Alice's personality and relationship with her mother, how it tackles the pathologisation of female autonomy, the performances, etc. The books are one of my favorite books of all time so there's that.

8. Maleficent

7/10

I really loved the performances in this, the metaphor for rape, the satisfying revenge. I don't mind that it was cliché. I love Maleficent movies. AND the Lana Del Ray cover for "Once Upon A Dream." Also, the first one makes me tear up every time. The mother-daughter love is just so touching to me.

9. Warrior Nun

I love the premise of this show and I can get behind the characters. The protagonist just annoyed me so much so often I have taken multiple breaks and can't remember the story. I am all for imperfect, asshole girl characters. But this protagonist was just whiny and careless beyond reason. And it was taking too long for her to get with the nuns. Like I was not invested enough in her running away arc. Like sis get your ass to the coven you are not that main of a character!

She took up so much screentime when literally every other character in the show was more interesting than she was.

At least there's lesbians.

10. Snow White & The Huntsman

(8/10)

What can I say? Kristen Stewart was hot in this, as was stepmother. Effects? Stellar. Direction? Stellar. Performance? Mostly stellar. Drama? Action? Magic? All there. Thoroughly entertaining. Refreshingly anti-Disney. Unfortunately there are some annoying men involved (I'm talking about the dwarves of course) but it never gets too overbearing. This is, however, the least feminist of the entire list and scores lowest on the above common themes.

Born in the morning of late winter, her arrival was quiet and uncertain. She would be the last child of Lucerys  and Alys, a risk untoward her mother and herself.  Nearly declared dead on arrival, Aelora never once cried greeting the world for the first time; it was only the bewildered blinking of violet eyes and small movements that alerted the midwives the babe was alive at all. Named for a forgotten and tragic Princess of Dragonstone in her own right,  the youngest Castamere Targaryen was watched and coddled closely by her mother and nannies alike, quickly earning the moniker “Hatchling of Castamere”

Dangers of infancy passed, Aelora grew into a curious and perceptive child. Sharing large age gaps with the majority of her siblings set her apart from nearly all of them, and while a brother or sister was off perfecting swordsmanship or etiquette across the Westerlands with the most experienced teachers; Aelora stayed safe in Castamere finding the deepest interest in realm history. Maester sciences also intrigued her, and when she was old enough to venture on her own archery around Castamere grounds rejuvenated her lungs and spirit anew.

Nights were always difficult for her, tossing and turning, afraid to close her eyes for the dreams that might follow. Aelora could scarcely describe the vivid dreams to her family, sometimes it was as small as a flash of fire and color. A scream or laugh, a piercing dragon eye. After so many waves of dismissal, the young Targaryen kept her dreams completely to herself. It was only when she found the smallest footnote of Daenys Targaryen in Valyrian Histories Aelora began to wonder further. Still, she hid this part of herself, her family was extending and growing beyond Castamere by then. The youngest daughter’s dreaming habits were the least of their concerns.

Her siblings are the teeth, claws, and fire of the dragon. Aelora did not feel apart from them completely – but it wasn’t until her cousin  the Queen allowed her to claim a dragon and prove the most important element of her blood that the Hatchling felt solidified as a Westerland Dragon at all. Though the claim did not come without a price of burns. Though they were quickly healed, they were a reminder to Aelora she was no mystical Targaryen prophecy herself and that the dragons would never be tamed, only trained.

The rouge dragons and disasters in the East weigh heavily upon her mind, where she cannot speak freely she finds deeper comfort in the Faith of the Seven and her history tomes. After all, one must be familiar with history in order to avoid repeating it. Aelora is eager to escape the displacement the trouble in Essos has caused across the kingdom, and can only hope for peace and prosperity to settle in easily again.

revolting , Disgusting  , Irredeemable “  as Such thier have been many Rumors about Kuro using his UM to change people who offended into monsters which isnt true  . Though  He can be really Sweet if you can make him open up and Get past his Drastically changing Mood Swing.

Kuro’s UM Allowed Him to turn   people into

Yo-kai by inspirting  them with Yo-kai souls . 

The Yo-kai from Generally tend to Make them Exaggerate and Focus  a Specific part of the victims personality usually the most prominent trait  they generally  given Powers related to it ( like say a StageHog being an Actual pig) and Their body changes to accommodate  they also start to act more degenerate and Selfish . 

Though this can happen. Involuntarily through Anger and instincts on Kuro’s part and the changes occur gradually most of the time   . It can be reversed through taking the Soul out usually beating the person up if they Refuse to give up the Yo-kai Soul .

Trivia :

It's very much Suggested that Kuros owner met Thier end by  Byeol bit  and their sounds of Agony used a song which is why Kuro cant stand listening to it .

 if Kuro used his powers on Tyler or Aiden  they'd be only ones. Who'd keep Thier original Species .

Kuro has no Presence 

Kuro says It's impossible to Use his UM on Aiden and Sidren

Kuro  has Used His Um On  Flynn … multiple times …on accident , He said The Yo-kai Made From Him was called Mothsqurade and that looked like a Plump( putting it nicely ) Moth creature, and that it looks Cute . That being Said Mothsqurade is Dangerous due to fact That Flynn is More Violate and much Less Tolerant to Insult and Gluts himself in on Attention to near bursting.

the Kuroi Yo-kai Watch Is the Only Watch that's Also a Yo-kai which is why Kuro is a Tsukumogami

His Dislike of Water is because Kuroi Yo-kai Watch was Thrown Into a River at the End of the shorts by Kuroi Nate. Which also explains his Dislike of Nell.

Dragon Goes House Hunting

Dragon Goes House Hunting is an underrated gem of an anime. Didn’t hear any hype about it and yet it’s one of the funniest comedy animes in the genre. I laughed so hard I choked at times. Letty is a sweet but fun character and Dearia’s dead pan but at times really touching moments were great. “Oh, he’s been swallowed by a whale.” Just perfect delivery. Pip is an adorable ball of fluff and his daddies fieriest protector. The only character I was meh about was Nell but that’s because I’ve never really cared much about tsundere characters. They just kind of get on my nerves at times. Her dad is a delight though.

i’m only watching this show for Team Green, including Otto. give me a family tragedy that only comes with one so utterly devoted to each other. who love each other completely. reminds me of this gif set featuring Nell’s quote from Hill House - spoilers for character deaths and CW for suicide and blood:

The story of the Greens really shines when you realize that this is a family that loves each other dearly and will do anything for each other. The most important people in their lives are their family, and they will drop everything for them. Aegon and Aemond will lie directly to the king's face for their mother and Aegon for Aemond, Aemond will travel everywhere and offer himself up as a bargaining chip for the sake of Aegon's crown, Aegon will try to defend his mother from a dragon only for her to try and defend him, Helaena will try to warn her mother of imminent danger, Aemond'll start a fight for Aegon's honor and Aegon will full on BODY anyone who tries to touch Aemond. Even with Otto, it's clear that he adores Alicent, he's just bad at showing it and his actions strained their relationship and hurt her, and he's clear a kind grandfather to Helaena.

They love each other, and the choices they make are largely motivated by that love, and it can have horrible unintended consequences, though they'll always love each other. I've been open that I want Aegon to give Aemond a grief-induced beatdown that Aemond doesn't fight back after Blood and Cheese, but I also want the entire family to rally around each other in that as well, to ultimately grow closer by closing the ranks.

I finally convinced myself to watch Criminal Minds latest season and the last episode is a rollercoaster but I absolutely LOVE how they made Garvez canon!

Also just before Luke asks Penelope to go out drinking they are signing and Penelope sings: “we kissed” looking at Luke and Matt - who’s the one who’s closest to Luke in the team - comes behind them and says: kiss! Completely out of nowhere which means he KNOWS Luke is into her and this warmed my heart so bad!

She was crying. Or at least she thought she was. Everything still tasted like blood and she couldn’t even tell whether dragons produced tears or not. This can’t be real...I killed them. I killed them all. She cleansed her jaws in the Whilom River and stared at her own draconic reflection, thinking about the men she had killed. The men who had forced dragon blood down her throat, now nothing more than faint red streaks, flowing down the stream.

What...will I do? What can I do...?

“[...In.]”

The sudden appearance of a great white dragon snapped her back to reality. She shrank in fear before her, dreadfully intimidated by her booming voice.

“[Nahleh in an. N non in?]”

“...L-lost? N-no, I-” The white dragon reared her neck and her eyes widened in surprise, only to close in dejection as she shook her head.

“[Sehth khei ang ool in...]” The dragon stepped closer and sniffed her. “[N Nell oom Nish in...Ess?]”

“...Y-yes...P-please...don’t...don’t hurt me..! I don’t want to die!!” She whimpered pathetically.

“[Snehk morn in an. N ahlm in,]” the dragon spoke gently, perhaps even with concern in her voice. [”N tah ehm in, herrn myhk?”]

“I-it’s...Emma.”

“[Eman...N Vidofnir an,]” she declared and spread her wings, readying to take flight. “[Oloh an ool Arrn ith Dran in. Leehs fohl in an?]”

“I think so...I...I don’t really know how to move yet, but I can t-try...”

“[N ah oohd.]“

Vidofnir led Emma to the dilapidated ruins of Anyx Trine: an enormous, ancient building constructed to house man and dragon alike. Upon their arrival, many dragons greeted Vidofnir and questioned her about the “strange-smelling one” accompanying her. She explained in brief what Emma was, and judging from their reaction, it wasn’t the first time they had seen such things here.

“...W-what now?” Emma questioned. She was still utterly at a loss about herself. Her future. If she even had a future anymore... “Will I have to live here...? Like...this..?”

“[Kohm,]” Vidofnir laid down and opened her wing, inviting Emma to rest beside her. “[Sohm a...rohs khei ith sooh.]”

“...t-thank you,” Emma whispered meekly as she nestled against Vidofnir as best she could. “I...don’t know why you’re being so kind to me, but...thank you...”

She tried her best to channel her thoughts away from today. From everything. Soon enough, she was slumbering peacefully, under Vidofnir’s watchful eye.
