alright, i've been back for like 2 hours, i'm ready to make some enemies....
i was choosing peace, scrolling through the nosferatu and thomas hutter tags and lo and behold, the "he loves her but he doesn't understand her," discourse is back and let me tell you:
it's not new, ok. you didn't just discovered anything groundbreaking.
if there is a "love triangle" between a heroine, her golden retriever boyfriend/husband and a villain, it always ends up here.
from darklina(/mal), reylo (/finn), delena (/stefan), phantom/christine (/raoul), dramione (/ron), spike/buffy (/angel), addie/luc (/henry) and of course dracula/mina (/jonathan) and i could keep going but you get my point.
listen, listen, i get it, we all get it, you have english literature degree, you like gothic horror and you think enemies to lovers is the coolest concept since death and the maiden.
i don't have anything against those ships (i mean, i do, the fandoms are worst), people like their villains, i love my villains, villains are awesome, they are fun way to explore the darker side of things and a great way for the heroine to find her own voice and power, great, especially when we make it sexy, however...
have you maybe considered that them having a guy by their side, telling them that murder, abuse, world domination and death aren't great, is maybe a good thing? like, yeah, maybe he doesn't get it but he is doing his best to understand and still cares for her and tries to protect her.
yeah, dark is sexy, even when it's a rotting corpse, i agree, but maybe the character trying to pull away from it and not grasping it, is not inherently pathetic and not deserving to be a love interest.
(btw, i'm aware this is a layered topic and there is nuance here, even with the ships i listed but the phase "he doesn't understand her" is really something that gets on my nerves for years, a decade at this point, i can literally go back to my teen wolf days.)
tldr: create a new line when hating the golden retriever boyfriend. thank you.

i'm just returning to tell you that i had seen nosferatu and first of all, that pigeon didn't deserve that, secondly, this is a film for cinema and should be watched there (if you can survive watching the most horrifying sex scenes with dozens of people) and thirdly... personally, i think eggers should make a sequel where ellen comes back as orlok and has a field day with thomas. is it a bit sadistic? sure. but he should make it for me. as a treat.

let’s make it very clear. at the end of the day, both factions are fighting for their own ambitions. they genuinely do not care about the kingdoms, nor their people. it’s a war between a family that made it literally everyone else’s problem. it’s just the greens are made cartoonishly evil and their genuine love for each other was deliberately erased. the blacks are made to come across as feminist, as the only side you are allowed to like. but if you think about their actions for more than one second, you will find rhaenyra is actually extremely sinister (starving her people and then locking said starving people in a room with a dragon), daemon is extremely cowardly (murdering his first wife, choking his niece who became his third wife after he fucked her the very night of his second wife’s funeral, decapitating a man from behind because he told everyone the truth), etc. it’s just a matter of how these characters are framed.

ALICOLE/GWAYNICENT VICTORIAN GOTHIC GHOST STORY
In the flame’s glow stood a specter wearing the face of her brother Gwayne, with ghastly white skin and eyes not blue like the sea, but black as the night that surrounded them.
