ALSO!!!! "hand me my shovel, i'm going in!"?????? heLLO? love that 🫶
okay this one is SO MUCH FUN once I've gotten through at least one Big WIP (either gravity or cheerscoops fake dating) I'm definitely coming back to focus on this one. The title comes from the song of the same name by Will Wood and the Tapeworms!
The concept for this AU is that Hawkins (circa 1986) is under attack from a local serial killer, but they have absolutely no idea. Why not? Because Eddie Munson, local necromancer, keeps resurrecting the victims before they're found and reported as dead. This is staying under wraps for now, as all the victims are people generally ignored by society; people from the trailer park, the local drunks, the disenfranchised. People who, post-revival, will generally chalk the whole thing up to a hallucination or a bad dream, but even if they did tell someone it's not like anyone would believe them.
Eddie, meanwhile, is growing increasingly frustrated with the fact no one he revives can remember anything about who did this to them. They remember enough to know it was a violent death (although Eddie already knows that from the state he finds their bodies in), but their memories are too fuzzy to know who did it - and memories of dying and being brought back fade pretty quickly, as a general rule. Eddie doesn't make any headway on figuring out who the culprit is until he brings back the killer's latest victim: Steve Harrington.
Upon being revived, Steve's immediate reaction is "why the fuck is Eddie Munson here, what the fuck is going on and also I'm pretty sure I died for a second there?" in that order. Upon explaining the situation, Steve agrees to help Eddie find who's responsible for these killings and do something about it.
This is kind of an S4 replacement/canon divergence in that Upside Down Shit has been happening since '83, but also it's very much not in that the Upside Down works differently here and things happened differently to how they did in canon (there's almost no government presence in this AU, for example). It's essentially purgatory/the halfway dimension between our world and the afterlife, so Will and El both have their own magical bullshit going on. Think of it as them being sorcerers (innate aptitude for magic) and Eddie being a wizard (learned magical abilities), yknow?
Send me an ask about my WIPs!

You Can't Kill Love
Author: @jellyfishloveletterghosts
Rating/Warning: Teen and up audience, referenced ED
Chapter Count: 1/1
Description:
Chrissy dies and Eddie goes to Steve looking to bring her back.
-
"Do you regret it?" Billy cocks his head and Eddie clarifies. "Do you regret Steve bringing you back?"
"Sometimes in the beginning I did. When everything was familiar and strange at the same time. Before we figured our shit out.” Billy’s voice is quiet as he hands over a lighter, taking a drag from his cigarette before blowing it out again, the wind catching it and twisting it. “I've never found myself regretting getting to be with him though, getting this time." His eyes shift back to the graveyard even though Steve cannot be seen down in the hole Eddie dug.
"Do you think Chrissy will regret it?"

These are two characters I’ve made with this template!
Tumblr media
Warden is a self-insert, made to represent me if I existed in the universe of Fantasy High
Tumblr media
Prof. Morí is an instructor for Aguefort’s Department of Necromancy. They are a vulture Aarocockra. I like to believe it is often questioned by the students for intel on the vulture king, to which it claims doesn’t exist.
Fantasy High Character Template

(This is just an edit of Kristen’s character card made by the amazing artists over on dropout!)
Edited this so you could put your original characters in it!

Been watching sooooo much say yes to the dress so.....
Steve and Robin are consultants and co-designers at Kleinsfeld. Robin especially loves designing and Steve really loves that moment brides find The Dress because they light up and he helped make that happen and it just makes him smile
Enter Eddie Munson, rockstar and definitely not in a relationship but at Kleinsfeld to find a dress he can wear for an upcoming music video that's a little corpse bride vibes re revenge and murder (dead bride raised by necromancer and given opportunity to get revenge on her killer ex)
Eddie shows up with the guys and Steve/Robin are their consultants (they can't be separated bad things happen like Robin knocking over a rack of dresses bc Steve isn't there to pull her back in time) and when Steve (knows who Eddie is, doesn't care that much, they get celebrities all the time) asks who the bride is neither blink at Eddie raising his hand with a shit eating grin
They just go right into the design/style/budget questions and Eddie is almost disappointed he didn't get to cause more of a scene lmao
Anyway Steve is the one helping in the dressing room and he's getting Eddie into this big dramatic ballgown when Eddie asks why he's a consultant
Steve inadvertently just rambles about helping brides and making them feel the center of attention and cared for and special during their appointments. He also talks about designing affordable but fashionable dresses with Robin since he has experience with high fashion and general design and she knows best about keeping costs down without making things ugly
Obviously Eddie Munson is immediately heart eyes listening to this guy describe all of this while expertly lacing a ballgown corset and getting clips in place so it fits right and before he knows it Steve is leading him to where Robin and the band are waiting
The guys are immediately all giving Looks (derogatory) but can't describe what's wrong until Robin looks at Eddie and asks if he's adverse to negative feedback
Eddie is like "???? No, I guess???"
And is just even more confused when Robin goes, "No. Really, think about it."
So when he says it's fine Robin pushes Steve forward and tells him to let loose. Eddie is surprised cuz Steve is so sweet? How could he possibly be mean? And then Steve just holds nothing back like "the color washes you out, that beading makes your chest look uneven, the ballgown is actually a horrible silhouette on you because you just look uncomfortable having so much dress hanging off you"
And he says it all with this little popped out hip and slightly pursed mouth and raised eyebrow and it's so so bitchy and Eddie is fucking in love okay, he's gone, he needs to make fun of other people with Steve immediately
But also he's a gremlin so he's like "can a guy even look good in a wedding dress tho, like, does it matter?"
And Robin immediately jumps in like "of course it does you plebian especially if you want the music video to be any good"
This leads to Eddie and the guys not believing them so Robin and Steve share A Look and they do love proving people wrong so they're both like "bet" and tell Eddie to wait there
Cue them grabbing a sample dress (click to see what I'm thinking literally this is such a pretty dress holy shit) from their collection, putting Steve in it, and then showing it off
Eddie is dead. Immediately. Steve's arms? His legs? His chest? His confident little smirk as he spins in front of them?? 4 braincells dead and 28 injured in Eddie’s head
Anyway he literally ends up on his knees begging Steve to be in the music video, Steve agrees cuz he thinks Eddie is hot and funny, and CC fans lose their shit over the bride and his dress in the music video, especially when he and Eddie kiss at the end after the revenge murdering

✩ WEEKLY FIC ROUND-UP ✩
All the fics I’ve read and really enjoyed in the past week-ish. Reminder: This list features any and all ratings and themes. Please look at tags and warnings on ao3 before reading.
Untamed
All Old Things are New Again by The Feels Whale (miscellea)
Full-time necromancer and part-time cam boy, Wei Wuxian, finds himself unexpectedly homeless. An enthusiastic patron comes to his rescue.
Conversely:
Immortal Cultivator Lan Wangji has been waiting a long time for his deceased husband to be reincarnated again. In retrospect, he should have anticipated that this is how it would go.
DC
myself and this body that they stuck me in by misspickman
"Oh,” Bart says with a hint of surprise in his voice. “You look so pretty.”
“I look like a girl,” he rebuts. He's not sure why he's even continuing this conversation.
Bart, blissfully unaware of Kon's internal crisis, shrugs and says, “Well, I think you'd make a lovely girl."
when I see myself, I always know where you are by suzukiblu
"There's no point in killing Superboy," Match says reasonably. "It's not like you'd care if he died."
"The Agenda thinks I wouldn't care if Superboy died?" Superman asks incredulously, just staring at him. "Why, because he's a clone?"
"Because I reported back my interactions with you when I was pretending to be him," Match corrects, puzzled by the vehemence of the response. "And also the lack thereof."
"What?" Superman says, still just staring.
Stranger Things
smoking guns (hot to the touch) by fivecenturiesverse (+ podfic)
Sure, they've saved the world, but the best part of that really is that it doesn't end there and in a town where everyone thinks he murdered a girl, he's at least got Steve Harrington and Robin Buckley. It's really not his fault he accidentally starts living at Steve's house, he was invited, after all. There's a mystery too, about Barbara Holland and Steve's pool.
“Your boner is digging into me,” says Robin, and Steve snorts a tired sort of laugh.
“I don’t have a —”
“You do, I can feel it. Gross.”
“Okay, but it’s only a little one,” he says in a small voice which sounds like he’s impersonating someone.
“Are you ever going to let that go? I peed a little bit when the Russians got the torture devices out, okay?” She sounds amused, though.
Eddie jolts. “Russian torture devices?”
Robin carries on like she didn’t hear him but Steve catches his eye and he’s grinning. “How do you even have a boner dude? You were definitely having a nightmare I know your twitching means a nightmare… Did you have a boner over Vecna?"
M!ik
Iruma's Bloodline Ability by SpeedOfSnake
"Of course!” Asmodeus took the bait. “I am talking about Iruma-sama's ability to wipe the minds of his enemies.”
...Iruma had the ability to do what now?
...
Asmodeus believes Iruma has a bloodline ability, and Iruma tries to figure out why.
Star Wars
Back Where We Belong by thiswildheart
"Obi-Wan," Anakin breathed, and the dread crystallised into heartbreaking terror.
Of course. He should have known. Maybe he had known, but been too afraid to look it in the eye.
Not the kids, not Padmé, but someone as dear to him as they were. No wonder he'd been so sure his family was in danger.
(The war is over and Palpatine's gone, yet traces of his intended empire still threaten Anakin's family. Anakin will not fall again, but he's prepared to use everything the Light can offer to get his brother home.)

Buck: (slamming open Frank’s door in his office) WHO DID IT?
Frank: woah… Buck? Let’s calm down. What are-
Buck: Who hurt Eddie? You have to tell me. I’ll kill them.
Frank: Oh… Buck. It doesn’t work like that. Some of the people who hurt Eddie hurt him by dying. You can’t kill them; they’re already gone.
Buck: Then I will get a necromancer to bring them back so I can kill them again! I will hurt them for all eternity for hurting Eddie!
Frank: it’s not just other people… Eddie is fighting demons of his own…
Buck: Then we can stop at a church to get holy water and I’ll fight his demons too. I’d fight Satan himself for Eddie.
Frank: Buck… one of the “demons” Eddie’s struggling with is… his sexuality.
Buck: Fine! Then after the cemetery and the church, we will go to the store and pick up some condoms and lube and help him explore his sexuality as much as he wants to. Hell, I own a whole cock ring collection and a ring cutter.
Frank: You would help him explore his sexuality…?
Buck: If he wanted? Sure. All day, every day, top to bottom, every which way and then some.
Frank: ok then, let’s switch your plan around. Let’s start at the store. Get the condoms and lube and maybe some more there. You and Eddie can explore each other and find what works best for you. Then in maybe a year or two, you and Eddie can stop by a church to get married, holy water and all of you want it. And after a long and fulfilling life of love together, you and Eddie can be buried together in a cemetery for all eternity.
Buck: Wow. You’re good at this psychiatry stuff. But can I still blow shit up at least?
Frank: No.

Ok so this is more of a full fledged story than a prompt but work with me here (sorry for typos, i wrote this quick):
Medieval Steddie and possible ronance au: Eddie is a bard who has been banished from the castle. He functions now as a guide to adventurers, having completed a fair few adventures himself. He'll take any wannabe knight or reward seeking peasant anywhere in the kingdom and beyond for a price.
Steve, or Stephon really, is the Prince of the same castle Eddie was banished from. His friend, Robin of House Buckley, a rebellious young linguist, has disappeared in Goblin country. Steve has to save her, not only because Robin is his closest friend, but because his father has vowed to banish Steve if he doesn't do something with his life.
Steve finds Eddie and is somewhat disguised in light armor with no crests from the castle or opulent furnishings. Eddie, in truth, doesn't recognize Steve at first, just clocks him as someone of status. Eddie isn't a huge fan of high status knights taking up for-reward jobs (and there is a reward for Robin, she comes from a respected science house and her parents are worried). Why not leave these jobs to people who need the dough? But he takes Steve on as a client because even if Steve doesn't need the money, Eddie sure does.
...........
They start their adventure off in terse interactions. Eddie doesn't like this pompous rich guy and Steve doesn't like how Eddie keeps giving him the side eye. Steve finally asks him one night what his problem is. Eddie makes some remark about how people who obviously already have a patron (is that what you call people who hire knights?) shouldn't be taking on stand alone quests. They already get enough benefits from being an employed knight. Steve scoffs as soon as he hears it.
"I'm trained, but I'm not a knight. And I didn't take this quest on fir the money. Robs is my friend. I told her not to go out there alone."
Eddie eases up after that, still a little suspicious about Steve's background, but if he isn't lying about being friends with Robin, then maybe Steve is ok. Eddie had done some side work for the Buckley house before and they were fine people in his book.
They keep going, this time on more amicable terms, even branching towards friendly, but Eddie can't seem to shake the feeling that he knows Steve.
They are a day at most from Goblin country when Eddie finally places it. Steve is prince Stephon. They argue and it blows up. Why would Steve hide his identity? Why wouldn't he at least tell Eddie? Is he doing this for Robin or just to secure a place on the throne?
Eddie revokes the quest, says Steve is on his own, and storms off... but he realizes Robin is still in danger so he backtracks. The thing is, Eddie was mad about Steve's secret identity, but he was more mad at himself that he had grown attached to Steve... maybe had feelings for him.
He doesn't catch up to Steve until they find Robin, who has somehow convinced the Duchess Nancy from the Wheeler fiefdom to help her in her quest, doing battle with a fuck-huge troll (Nancy is in armor BTW, she is very fetching). Steve busts in in the nick of time but three people still aren't enough to take it down. Enter Eddie, running and yelling like he does in the show to turn the tide of the battle and they defeat the troll.
Robin and Nancy explain there is something much more sinister than goblin unrest happening and that they have discovered a necromancer by the name of Vecna who is stirring up trouble.
They continue the quest to find and defeat vecna and along the way Eddie and Steve have a heart to heart and are friendly again; flirting even.
When they finally find vecna and do battle, they win, but Eddie is grievously injured. Steve rushes him to a hermits house that he knows of on the edge of goblin country where the two hermits Sir Jon and Sir Argyle nurse Eddie back to health with their strange herbs and medicine. Steve doesn't leave his side. When Eddie wakes he divulged his undying love for the prince and he and Steve become hermits themselves, watching the goblin boarder for any sign of Vecna.
Nancy and Robin take Steve's place and rule over a happy, healthy, well educated kingdom.
the end.

Heyyy
I accidentally went down a rabbit hole for the devotion art, and I was wondering if you filled out character sheets for the boys and if so, would you be willing to share them??
No worries if not in either way!
The stat blocks need not exist, not do you have to share them even if they do.
Hello hello! Thank you for asking! I actually did fill out character sheets for the boys at Lvl. 3, Lvl. 10 and Lvl. 15 for my upcoming D&D AU, Devotion.
And then I put them down and now I can't find them again to share 😭😭😭
But I DO HAVE AN ANSWER FOR YOU! And I do have the few notes I could find. I saw your reblogs about Eddie's Lvl. 10 stats and you're so right, his health is really low 😬 BUT I have an in universe reason for it! 😅
When I was filling out their stats and figuring them out, I knew I wasn't going to be building them to min/max them, you know? Like I wasn't going to level them up the way one might usually with a character they are playing. Like I wasn't gonna say:
There might be battles up ahead so I need to increase their stats here and here.
Instead I went more in the direction of:
At this stage in Steve's life, he's 16, he thinks he's hot shit because he's got his expensive gold armor and he's at the start of his story arc so, for example, his Wisdom is very low (-1) at Lvl. 3 and he also has NO experience in combat of any kind, he's only fought when in training, never in a real world scenario.
Then as he gets up to Lvl. 10, he learns, he grows. He's 21 year old now. He's become more wise to the ways of the world, he's learned to fight, his weapons have changed, he's gotten stronger. He's at a +0 for his Wisdom now as he's learned more of the world outside his small town.
It's the same story for Eddie. While I don't want to say too much because of potential spoilers, I can tell you he has the 'urchin' background sooo... 😬😬😬 That might give a hint. 😅 But as a Lvl. 3 Bard at 17 years old, growing up in the poor part of town, he doesn't have a lot of access to the kinds of benefits Steve had growing up. Y'know, sometimes you gotta busk to eat and sometimes you go home empty handed.
So this poor fucker is STARTING OFF at a +0 Constitution.
Which... doesn't get better. Because his situation does not get better.
There is a reason he multiclasses into Wizard, and it is very reflective of his story in the show. Like, in a sense his situation gets better, he has his people around him, but he also ends up leaning into the freakishness, hence the School of Necromancy.
But none of this is conducive to growing up healthy. So by the time he is at Lvl. 10 at 22 years old, he's still at +0 Constitution because... well... because there's only so much one can do. Regular meals and a constant training regimene is not something he had access to for the longest time.
(And listen, as someone who's favourite character I played was a School of Necromancy Wizard who was the most glass of glass canons, I feel you, Eddie 😅)
So like, he's got 3d8 HP when he's at Lvl. 3 and I believe he rolled fairly high with his +0 and I think he was at 21. Then he took 7 Wizard levels (still at +0) which was 7d6, leaving us with ~30 HP gained.
So I suppose, long story short, I am approaching these stats from a storytelling perspective, rather than trying to buff them up for any future battles, you know? Along with a little bit of homebrewing or just straight up ignoring some things that I need to.
Like as a DM, if something needs to be ignored or overlooked to make the story more entertaining to my players, I'll do it. The Rule of Cool is always in effect with me. 🤣
So I kind of see it as me being the DM of their story, but of course, rather than me being the DM and them running off in the opposite direction I want them to, like my players so often do I am also the author, and I know exactly what direction the story is going to go in and what's going to happen and what their motivations are.
I dunno, it's a really fun thinking exercise and it has allowed me to get so deep into their characters.
Anyway I am SORRY this explanation has gone on so long and I've gone so far in depth when you probably just wanted something short and sweet but I love talking about this so, I took the opportunity and ran with it. 😅
So here's the notes that I found on their character sheets on scattered scraps of paper 😅 (and I know some of these might not line up with what's supposed to be done, but isn't the main point at the end of the day to have fun? 😊)
Eddie Lvl. 10:
Keen Mind Feat STR: -1 DEX: +1 Con: +0 INT: +3 WIS: +1 CHA: +3
Steve Lvl. 10:
STR: +3 DEX: +0 Con: +2 INT: +1 WIS: +0 CHA: +3

that green light, i want it
Part 1
Eddie keeps hearing strange sounds coming from the woods. Whispers on the wind that sound like chanting. His job as an overnight groundskeeper for the local cemetery doesn’t pay him well enough to deal with supernatural shit. He's convinced the woods are haunted, and asks Wayne about the history.
There's only one tale of a girl who died. A recent disappearance that felt more like an urban legend. But it’s one that keeps people from wandering too far into the depths of the mysterious forest. Eddie didn’t know the girl, only knew of her. Everyone in Hawkins knew who she was now, though.
There's something there, ghostly or otherwise. Eddie knows he's not crazy. And then the bodies start moving. Graves disturbed and taken apart, even while he's on duty. He's lucky he hasn't been fired, but he fixes them before the sun comes up, cursing the fucking ghosts or grave robbers, or whoever is making his job more difficult.
He feels like he's in an episode of Scooby-Doo. There's no trace of whoever's doing this, no foot prints or trail. Until one day he spots a flash of light out of the corner of his eye. He's moving towards it even though his brain is urging him to run the other way.
At least he has enough sense to duck behind a tombstone when he gets close enough to make out what's happening in front of him. But he almost wishes he couldn't see. Because right there, is a zombie. A corpse come to life and talking to a man. That’s worse than ghosts.
He wants to scream, but it's caught in his throat. Like a dnd campaign brought to life, this man must be some kind of necromancer, holding this corpse together with sorcery and communicating with it like an old friend. The names Barb and Nancy drift across the space to his ears.
When he tears his eyes away from the living dead, he notices the man, beautiful and glowing in the magical essence twisting around him. There's a green glow seeping from his fingertips, passing between him and the body hovering in the air. It's reflected in his eyes.
Eddie wonders if the glow has a warmth, like a fire, it's green flames illuminating the surrounding area. When the light dies out and the body is lowered to the ground, the man looks sad, silent tears crawling down his face and chest heaving, visible even in the pitch black night.
He doesn't know this man but he wants to reach out, not just from curiosity about whatever the hell he just witnessed, but to make sure he's alright. Just when he thinks the man is going to go back to the woods, he turns around and looks directly at the place where Eddie's hiding.

Recs of my fav things with mental illness/trauma/neurodiversity representation that lets their characters be unpleasant and full people:-).
These are a collection of things I personally found relateable, over the course of my life. Almost all of these are aimed at adults (but not all!) and it's okay to disagree with me on wether these are good or not, but I put them on this list because I like them and I like how they portray complex mentally ill characters.
Here’s a randomizer that picks one at random!!!
Pieta, by Nanae Haruno. Genre: josei manga (josei is manga aimed at women, usually ones in their 20's). Two girls who struggle with mental health fall in love.
Dungeon Meshi, dir. Yoshihiro Miyamjima, original story by Ryoko Kui. Genre: fantasy anime. After his sister is eaten by a dragon, a man does his best to get her body back and revive her. In order to survive he decides to cook monsters with his party, instead of trying to travel with food from outside of the dungeon. Personal note: autism meshi. My personal favourite is Kabru, because he's literaly me when it comes to Being Totally Normal About Human Interaction.
Burnt Sugar, by Avni doshi. Genre: literary novella. A woman starts losing her grip on reality as her mother starts losing her memory. My personal opinion: it's just amazing, god, one of my favourite books ever, no book ever portrayed psychosis in such a personally relateable way, even tho I differ from the protag on so many levels.
Promising Young Woman, dir. Emerald Fennel. Genre: a deconstruction of revenge films. A woman traumatised by her friends suicide tries to avenge her.
Simon Snow triology, by Rainbow Rowell. Genre: ya fantasy and romance, deconstruction of chosen one stories, wizard school. Note: the exploration of ptsd mostly happens in book 2 and 3. The first book differs both in subject matter and tone, and was written originally as a stand alone. A typical chosen one protag defies the narrative set on him. Personal note: the way trauma reflected on protag's relationship with sex was so well thought out. Reread this out of nostalgia recently and found myself stunned on how uniquely well it's written.
Fleabag, screeplay by Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Genre: dark comedy, drama. A woman who seems aware of the fourth wall tries to cope with her best friend’s death.
Revolutionary Girl Utena, dir. Ikuhara Kunihiko. Genre: magical girl anime deconstruction, fairy tale deconsturction, psychological horror. A girl who wants to become a prince gets tangled in messy drama of the student council, after she wins a duel and accidentally becomes engaged to a girl they refer to as the rose bride. Personal note: FAVOURITE SHOW EVER, a queer classic, ectetera, the most complex show ever written in my personal opinion, the entire narrative is about patriarchy's evils, and damn, no show since did it better imo.
Boy meets Maria, by Peyo. Genre: romance manga. A boy falls in love with a member of his high school's theatre, who turns out to be a boy.
The Locked Tomb, by Tamsyn Muir. Genre: sci-fi fantasy horror. In a planet system of necromancers, a girl from a planet with a single living necromancer gets picked to be said necromancers swordwoman, when she tries to become a saint. Personal note: you will not believe the amount of Insane Undead Lesbians this series has. READ IT.
Bojack Horseman, main writer Raphael Bob Waksberg. Genre: dark comedy, animated sitcom. A horse/man way past his prime still lives off of money from playing in a 90’s sitcom.
My Lesbian Experience With Loneliness, by Nagata Kabi. Genre: manga memoir. A depressed woman who has trouble with forming relationships tries to have her first time with a sex worker.
Pinky and Pepper forever, by Eddy Atoms. Genre: horror, dark comedy comic. Two art student girlfriends try to survive art school, and later meet again in hell.
A pale view of hills, by Kazuo Ishiguro. Genre: literary fiction. An imigrant woman, recalls her first pregnancy and a short friendship she had back in Japan.
Neon Genesis Evangelion, dir. Hideaki Anno. Genre: mecha anime, psychological horror. A boy is forced to pilot a robot by his absent father who runs a para-military organisation. Personal notes: second favourite anime of mine, every character is their own shade of unwell, there is a reason this is a classic.
Fight Club, by Chuck Palachniuk. Genre: thiller, literary fiction. A white collar man loses his apartment and moves in with his strange working class friend. Personal note: even if you've seen the film, read the original.
The Bell Jar, by Sylvia Plath. Genre: literary fiction, semi-memoir. A talented writer fights her suicidality and depression.
Crying in H-Mart, by Michelle Zauner. Genre: memoir. The author recalls her mother's last months and death.
My Dark Vanessa, by Kate Elizabeth Russel. Genre: literary fiction. After her ex teacher is accused of sexual assault, a woman recalls her high school romance with him. Personal note: this is heavily inspired by Lolita, and even though I've read both I kind of prefer this book, fight me.
Summer, 1993, dir. Carla Simón. Genre: drama. A young girl spends her first summer in a new home after her parents die. Personal note: good representation of a young child processing trauma is so rare!!!!
My Broken Mariko, by Hirako Waka. Genre: josei manga. After her friend's death, a woman goes out of her way to find out why she died, disbelieving her friend would kill herself.
Everything, everywhere, all at once, dir. Daniel Kwan and Schienert. Genre: sci-fi. A woman discovers multiverse time travel while trying to do her taxes, and processes her troubled relationship with her daughter.

Sorry for being gone for so long, I haven't been feeling great both physically and mentally, so that was awesome...anyway:
Look, Eddie wasn't that picky when it came to companions. He wasn't much of a catch either - as a bard, it was already expected of him to cause chaos, but with his choice of songs, the result was less of a bardic inspiration and more of a "turn everyone against each other" or "make everyone extremely horny". Which...actually worked when they needed to avoid combat, but by ancient gods, he didn't need to see that group of orcs going at it.
Anyways. Eddie wasn't picky, but Steven Harrington was becoming a bit too much for him.
First: he was a rich kid. Eddie was a proud trash raised in a cottage that barely held together and he had no patience for people who never washed their own laundry (not that Eddie did, well, not too often, but still).
Second: he was effortlessly handsome. Annoyingly handsome. Bad hair day? Steven fucking Harrington didn't know those. His moles were placed in perfect places. Eddie had nearly invisible freckles and his only moles were - embarrassingly enough - near his groin and if you squinted hard enough, looked like a daisy petal. So uncool. But uncool was a word Steven Harrington apparently lacked in his vocabulary.
And third...this. Just...all of this.
Eddie didn't want to think of himself as a prejudiced person, he really didn't. But there were two things he didn't like in this world: lawyers and necromancers.
And Steven somehow managed to blend both of those into a horrible combination that just. Fucking. Worked.
Eddie was strumming on his lute and watched Steven open a bag full of old bones, yet another unlucky trader, adventurer or whoever had died in the woods before them. He placed them carefully on the ground, arranging them - admirable knowledge of anatomy, Eddie would give him that - and muttered an incantation. Green light, weird whooshing, some sparkles, yadda yadda and the skeleton reassembled itself. It sat in front of Steven and they started working in hushed tones over a pre-prepared contract. Eddie could only make out phrases as "a work opportunity," "being dead must be boring," "do you have any family that could use a percentage of the spoils from this quest" and the best of all, "no pressure, if you'd rather be left alone, just say the word." From what Eddie had seen in last few weeks, very few of them did say the word, and if they did, Steven would honor his word and bury their remains where they desired.
It was a really decent thing to do and Eddie hated himself for even admitting it.
One discussion about details ("do you want to be only reassembled when needed or would you like to accompany us the whole time?") and a bony signature later, Steven carefully stuffed the newest party helper (Arthur, Steven made sure to remember all of their names, another fucking decent thing!) in the bag and stretched himself next to the fire.
Eddie couldn't help but glare. That fucking guy. Built like a fighter from carrying half of a cemetery on his back, pretty, rich and for some reason also awfully nice and moral. Eddie wanted to barf.
"You know," smiled Steven and Eddie's traitorous stomach did a triple flip with a botched landing, "I love seeing you like this. Calm. Strumming those slow melodies. You look really pretty, too." He laughed to himself and turned onto his back, staring at the stars. "Well, you look really pretty all the time, especially when you're trying not to be bitchy, but these times you look the prettiest."
Eddie almost dropped the lute. Almost swallowed his own tongue as well. "Are you trying to kill me, Harrington?" he sputtered. "Don't you have enough to resurrect?"
Steven just shook his head, smirking. "That's a thought. But no. Breach of ethics - I'm pretty sure killing someone to resurrect them wouldn't make them want to join me. Plus, I was thinking less of a "fight for me" and more like "fuck me, possibly date me" - interested?"
Eddie stared at him with large eyes, moving his lips without any sound. "Uh...well, sounds good to me," he said, not very intelligently, but his brain was chanting kiss those moles pull that hair shut him up kiss him like right now maybe. "Do you...have a contract for that?"
Grinning, Steven - no, Steve, he asked to be called that several times and maybe this was the right time to give in to his wish - pulled Eddie to the ground with him. "For you? I'm sure I can draft something."
When Gareth, Robin and Chrissy arrived back from their supply run the next morning, they found Eddie and Steve curled against each other, fully clothed but very obviously satisfied. Robin just snickered and whispered to Steve that she wanted details, all the dirty, sticky and scandalous details, but Gareth just rolled his eyes. "And here I thought you disliked the guy when you said "Fuck him," he nudged Eddie as he unpacked healing potions.
Eddie closed his eyes and hummed a new melody that came to him with Steve's touches and gentle words. "It was open for interpretation," he laughed and reached for his lute.

Slamming my two niche fixations into one super niche fixation with my House of Anubis kids but if they went to Ravenwood Academy in the 2008 MMO Wizard101:
Nina is definitely a Balance wizard through and through, which means she draws upon all the elemental schools to perform her magic (this is also lowkey the ancient Egyptian theme school so…). It’s not super powerful, but she’s very good at it. She also is a master at the Celestial schools of Sun, Moon, and Star. She definitely gets sucked into the whole Shadow magic debacle as well, because she’s Nina.
Fabian, my beloved Storm and Myth double major wizard. He was definitely a Diviner to start out, since they’re all about scientific discovery, but the moment Nina came crashing into his world, he definitely fell down a rabbit hole into the School of Myth. He’s also, begrudgingly, way better at being a Conjurer than he was with anything to do with Storm magic. Still, he sticks with both.
Patricia is the most Pyromancer to have ever Pyromanced. Her fire burns bright; she’s quick to anger, completely fixated on whatever currently has her attention. She’s also really into the Gravulum Order, because it feeds the little beast of paranoia in her by having to get readings on chaos magic from places and creatures
Amber is also a Pyromancer. Much like Patricia, the flames of her magic are bright and hot. She also cares a lot about how she looks— a common trait of the Fire School. She’s also almost always found in the Shopping District, particularly the dye shop. She dabbled in Storm magic for a little bit but after she nearly blew up the school, she was asked to switch.
Alfie is a Conjurer. The Myth school feeds into his fantastical whimsy, and he loves learning about all the different creatures and stories. He loves Monstrology, and fills his dorm with all sorts of conjured critters.
Jerome is a Necromancer, but he sucks at it— not because he doesn’t have the affinity for it, but because he doesn’t pay attention in class, way more inclined to be plotting his next prank. He’d actually be very good at Death magic if he could put that mind of his to his studies instead of being a menace.
Joy is a Storm wizard. She’s addicted to tech and pop culture and she loves an aesthetic. Just ask after something (or someone) she likes, and she will go on about it for days and days. She’s a very talented Diviner, and her magic is strong. Don’t cross Joy.
Mara is a Thaumaturge with Storm as a secondary school. As an Ice wizard, she exhibits great patience and strength, but she’s rigid and inflexible in her beliefs. She has a very clear sense of right and wrong, and she will call you on it. It also takes a lot to break her down. Sometimes when she’s upset about something, it starts to snow in a little cloud over her head.
Mick: Mick is a Fire wizard for a lot of the same reasons Patricia is. He’s a hothead, and his flames are absolutely lethal. He can burn opponents to a crisp in moments. Definitely not lacking in the raw magic department.
Eddie: Eddie also starts off solely as a Fire wizard, but once he discovers he’s the Osirian, he takes up Balance magic as a secondary school. He’s not as skilled at the detail work as Nina is, but what he lacks in finesse he makes up for in raw power. He and Patricia sometimes duel for fun, but he only ever wins when he combines Balance magic with his Pyromancy. She insists it’s cheating, but he maintains that it’s “strategic”
KT: KT is a Necromancer. She’s always been drawn to Death magic, ever since she was a child. Her grandfather was a Necromancer and he taught her everything she knows. She’s not super good at speaking with the dead, but she’s amazing at resurrecting them. Sometimes, she helps Fabian study Myth in the school library, and sort of picked it up as an unofficial secondary school.
Willow: Without a doubt, this girl is a Life wizard. Her singing makes the flowers grow, animals flock to her, and her magic is pure healing energy. Much like most Life wizards, her head is in the clouds and she’s a little strange, but you can’t help but love her. She’s also very skilled at Astral magic.

Wordcount: ~13.8k
Notes: Big thanks to @candybarrnerd for knowing me very fucking well and sending me the Tumblr post which inspired this, to @moonflower-rose and @silveredsound for politely and graciously listening to me wang on about this ship, and to @gracerene for proofreading my junk even though she doesn't go here ❤️
Additional warnings: the claustrophobia tag refers to a description of waking up buried in the ground, as well as discussions of the processes of death. This is also from Eddie's POV as the resurectee. Take care!!
(I've also fucked about with some canon such as the Creel house being a place any of them would ever have obtained a book from, we love to hand-wave logic here)
Summary:
"Holy shit," Eddie says. "Ta-fucking-da indeed, Harrington. Who died and made you king of the necromancers?" he says, almost impressed.
Steve snorts, quietly. "You?" he says, and that shuts Eddie up.

Thinking about Eddie and Dulcie from Deadloch in Canaan House. TLT fans, pleeeease watch Deadloch!
- Gideon and Eddie would HATE each other at first (too similar), but after an arm-wrestling match Gideon would slowly start respecting Eddie and look up to her as what she thinks is an Older Lesbian. Gideon would then be VERY surprised that Eddie is, in fact, the only straight woman in Canaan House and has started an affair with Naberius
- Dulcie as a necromancer and Eddie as her cavalier. OBVIOUSLY
- actually now that I think about it, there are quite a few parallels between Eddie + Dulcie and Gideon + Harrow. The formula is rule-following uptight religious trauma lesbian + feral witty woman with a "man's name" who simply loooves an inappropriate joke (bonus points because Madeleine Sami is also a kiwi just like Gideon)
- I just really want to see Eddie complain about facepaint and handle a sword now
- Dulcie would love the Second House
- Would Gideon also develop a crush on THIS Dulcie? Possible.
- if anyone has more thoughts... tell me
