I think it’s interesting for so different a lot of the G2 concept art was. Like it had a very unique vibe.

Only for the final designs to just wind up so similar and noticeably derivative of their g1 looks.

Like g2 could’ve had a far stronger identity if it’d pulled influence from the more unique designs here. And I’m someone who actually quite liked g2!

Different generations are at their best when they’re not afraid to try a different approach from their predecessors in both story and design!

They’re a Xoloitzcuintli! Or a Xolo for short. It’s a Mexican hairless dog breed!

In mythology they protect and guide souls through the underworld! It’s a really fitting and creative pet!

“Why do you think twilight sparkle shouldn’t have become a princess?”

It gives me the ick from a narrative, development and marketing perspective.

Narrative:

Im not fond of the minor ways twilights character was softened after It happened and I just really don’t care her “princess worries” plot lines. I feel there was better stories she could’ve had more directly tied to her as a pony that aren’t “what’s my role as a royal?” Or “can I do a good job leading?”

Production:

It was scummy as hell they started working on it the second series creator Lauren Faust was out of the picture. She wrapped up direct work on mlp mid to late season two and twilight became an alicorn in season three.

That’s a very short time period to introduce a series changing plot point without her knowing about it. Which knowing how she feels about that plotline I struggle to feel the timing is not suspicious.

It’s really depressing to know that not only did that action throw away all of Laurens actual plans for twilight’s development but that she also stopped keeping up with the show afterwards because it hurt.

Marketing:

Even if twilights alicorn plotline was written with gold ink and kissed by baby angels I don’t think I’d ever get over how corporate of a decision it was

We all the know the core reason they did it. Regardless of personal opinion or takes we all know the actual reason.

Princess. Toys. Sell.

They wanted to be able to market her as a princess because it sells well. Why? Creates mental correlation with the Disney princess brand. One of the most successful girls toy marketing ventures… ever.

So Twilight Sparkle became Princess twilight sparkle.

The princess part taking over almost completely.

The show may put efforts into emphasising how twilight is “the same nerdy bookworm you’ve always known!” But the merch didn’t. Didn’t even try to.

The merch leaned completely into her just being the princess lead. All tiaras, gold, glitter, gowns, chariots and elegance. Almost seemingly taking strides to distance her from her show character in some releases. Giving her a very different bodytype. A more elegant and “beautiful” one.

And if all this merch was for Celestia Luna or cadence? I’d love it! Hell give me some of this for the merch exclusive princesses Goldlily and Sterling!

But this isn’t really twilight. Not in spirit.

So yeah not a fan of princess twilight sparkle.

I liked twilight before her brand value was tied to her being royalty.

And grieve the version of her we could’ve gotten if they’d let the original plan for her reach it’s conclusion…

Toys are not collective property. You get no say in what others do with them. Regardless of rarity and availability stuffs. It’s theirs.

You’re not keen on the early g7 pets because of “tattoo symbols” and “unnatural colours”

I’m not overly keen on them because the colour blocking was just kind of uninspired and generic. And felt they needed more creative patterning since most of the plain colour blocking was already done in the original.

You can’t just do what was already done but in black light colours and expect me to care. They gotta be creative with it and they thankfully are now.

We are not the same.

I just learned there was a giant statue of the LPS pink cat at one point.

And now I’m desperate to know if she’s still out there or was thrown away when whatever store/display this was shut down.

The longer since the break up passed the less I feel I’d get back together with her even if she asked.

Which on one hand is its own heartbreak. I was so ready to spend my forever with her. She had to be the one to break it off because I’d never have. I felt I could take anything if it meant I stayed her girlfriend.

That if I just tolerated the growing distance she put between us and gave her all the space in the world she’d realise how dependable I was and would be close to me again. Not realising that wasn’t healthy.

But on the other hand? I’m here now, more confident than I’ve ever been. Knowing I healed from it, knowing I can again in the future. The future is empty of the plans I had for it but it’s also free!

Being on my own, reconnecting with old interests, actually practicing my art, making connections it’s all more fun than I ever could’ve imagined!

I’m gonna be ok. I know I’m strong enough now💗

The day TLS stops milking the crap out of the 80s designs and starts making merchandise for the actual current generation of strawberry shortcake is the day I can actually be truly happy.

I don’t want the 50th reproduction of 80s strawberrys shortcake but with arm articulation this time.

I want even just one doll of the current strawberry. Just one. Which we know you originally had in production as one point.

Because the prototype was in the store display mock-ups!

Of course berry in the big city is failing! You never actually gave it a real chance in the first place! You literally cancelled all your plans to properly support its generational cycle!
