The thing with Near is that he’s a sensitive person by nature and he feels things deeply, so I don’t actually think he’s capable of completely shoving aside his emotions and refusing to feel them at all. I think he’s just good at separating the feeling from the logic; he gives himself a little time to react and process things first to lessen the intensity, and then he pushes it aside once it’s easier to ignore. There are so many examples of this in canon - the SPK raid being the most obvious one imo, but it also shows a lot when he gets excited about things, like when he first sees Ryuk in the warehouse or when Mello shows up at his headquarters. He has that small human moment where he just lets himself feel, and then it’s back to business as usual.

arthur born of magic who lives where magic is outlawed and merlin who is magic and is forced to keep it bottled up recognizing each other without seeing the other. arthur who always feels a vague sense of numbness except when he’s around merlin bc the magic that is threaded through his very being wakes and buzzes in emrys’s presence, recognizing its kin. merlin who is constantly restless beneath his skin, his magic buzzing to be set free, finally feeling at peace with arthur, his magic warming and stilling beneath his skin. arthur feeling deprived of air or food or water when merlin leaves bc the life that flared inside him fades when merlin leaves. merlin feeling restless when he’s not with arthur bc his magic which has previously been content to reside within him is now lashing out, desperate for either constant release or arthur’s presence. arthur taking his aggravation out of his knights during training when suddenly he feels alive again and his frustration wanes and then merlin calls out across the field. merlin putting the restless energy toward scrubbing the floors until the itching beneath his skin suddenly fades and then the door to the chambers burst open and arthur waltzes in.

soap's whole deal being sniper and demolitions gets me going bc on the surface they sound so different but when you get into it, you realise it's bc soap's smart

sniping is all math; calculating distances and wind interference and bullet drop. something i think people overlook is he was listed as a sniper first so it can be implied that he's better at it than demolitions. he does more sniping in both campaigns than demolitions work; in capture or kill, ghost specifically calls on him to take down the aq snipers

and demolitions is math with a hit of chemistry; knowing what mixes with what, knowing how much to use, recognising environmental factors and adjusting accordingly. it's not just about the boom; so much work goes into contained/ planned explosions. especially when having enough power for a breacher charge and not bringing down the whole building is the difference between mission success and failure

the chemical bombs he makes in alone can't just be any old cleaners, they have to have the correct reaction to each other; he just knew off the top of his head what would mix with what to create what reaction. he would also potentially have to recognise them by sight/smell bc they would’ve been written in spanish

soap would also have to know architecture; recognising structural integrity and weak points so he knows exactly where to plant a charge to bring it down and how it'll come down

he has an incredible soldier's mind people just forget that bc he's sociable which itself is a skill

we know he tends to buck against orders he doesn't agree with like when he pushes back against ghost in capture or kill and shepherd when he tells them to release hassan

he gets closer to people and sees if he can trust them and that's when he follows them without question. really think about how he talks to alejandro and rudy; he asks about their home and alejandro's family and rudy's relationship with him. those aren't questions you ask a stranger after a few hours of knowing them. that's not even touching on his relationship with ghost

he also deliberately brings people of higher ranks down to his level; talking informally with ghost and giving him a shoulder punch, addressing alejandro (a colonel!!) by his first name and rudy by his nickname despite literally just meeting them. he personalises all of them and it’s in direct opposition to the reason most characters do that; it’s not due to insubordination or lack of respect, the more he respects and trusts someone, the more casual he is with them

he digs into people; he wants to know what makes them tick and that determines if he can one, trust them and two, follow their orders. once he decides that, he's the ultimate soldier; he bleeds loyalty which makes him vicious when that loyalty is taken for granted

he isn't naive or bubbly or insecure; he's an incredibly smart and aware soldier. he's aggressive and bloodthirsty and loyal and intuitive and i love him so much

Y'know what, I really was trying to take a break from ranting about Arcane but shit keeps pissing me off and twitters format doesn't let a bitch rant like she wants to.

I'm sick and fucking tired of white queer people acting as if they're the only ones that are underrepresented in media. Like actually get a fucking grip on reality. I keep seeing people say that MelJay doesn't count as rep because "it's straight" as if that is not a direct representation of a dark skinned black woman being loved and cared for without needing to fight tooth and nail for it. As if that isn't an interracial couple that doesn't have a white person in it for fucking once. As if Jayce isn't a Latino coded man.

Straight white people have a fuck ton of representation, sure, but let's be fucking for real, out of all the people in the LGBTQ+ community that need more representation, white queer people are not at the top of the list. Y'all get most of it actually! Y'all have me on the internet fighting for my life about a straight ship because y'all can't stop for two fucking seconds to think about anyone that isn't fucking you!

I know I’ve been just posting about Fawcett recently but wait.

Fawcett with Bridge Trolls.

Hear me out.

Every once in a while a random troll will take up shop on a bridge in Fawcett, demanding people to answer their riddles. Failure results in death. (Unless, they can work something out.)

They stay there until someone can answer their riddles, which disrupts the flow of traffic so severely that all broadcasts warn about them the same way they go about bad weather or a traffic jam.

I imagine Captain going up to the bridge troll of the month, trying (and failing) to answer the riddles then getting flattened to the ground so many times before relenting and asking Solomon. But he never learns his lesson.

And he never gets it right.

Once he tried 78 times and only relented because he had monitor duty. He left a crater in the bridge to the point the thing was split in two.

How I imagine it would go:

Troll: You must answer my riddles three, if you wish to get past me.

Cap: Three? Last troll only gave one!

Troll: The rise of riddles is your fixation, but I propose you look at inflation. Cap: Oh. That makes sense, but uh— I need you to leave.

Troll: From this bridge you ask me to cease, but I shall’t leave without my peace.

Cap: *sigh* Okay, hit me with it.

Troll: Answer the riddle you must do stat, or else you will end up flat. Riddle one I will declare, for time I wish to spare; With a mouth but unable to digest, with a bed but not of rest.

Despite how off-putting it might feel at times, being so cherished as you make him feel, he manages to keep his cool. No matter how busy he is, Mello always makes sure you feel like you’re the only one that matters.

He kisses your temples, settling beside you and pulling you close, snuggling into your warmth. After a while, he might light a cigarette, sharing the quiet moment.

His idea of taking care of you often includes water bottles, soft whispers about how much he enjoyed it, and a collection of TikToks he saved just to make you laugh.

With Matt, everything is easy—lazy and sweet, just like him.

Near:

Near loves staying entwined with you for a while afterward, breathing slowly, savoring the closeness he rarely allows himself to indulge in.

He could cuddle for hours.

Near would love if you cleaned him up, and he’d gladly do the same for you. Just lying there, snuggling, sweetly brushing the tip of his nose with yours—it’s enough to make him melt.

Someone needs to put Joel and etho in a room together so they can sort out whatever is wrong with them because I never thought I'd say this but it is beginning to be too much

for angst reasons i hc that the static on robs body can cause physical pain for him and flares up at times, esp when hes emotional. and after contemplating this, i came to the based conclusion that rob is a disabled icon and that he needs a mobility aid right NOWWWW

in my eyes his condition is essentially fibromyalgia! causes intense and chronic long-term pain flare ups where his static is, thus it can make it hard for him to walk, move around, etc. so, on some pain days, he uses a cane! he also wears compression knee pads and arm sleeves for extra support.

^ bonus quick doodle of him in some forearm crutches and his besties! rob uses them during significant leg pain days if his upper arms are fine-ish. forgot his compression pads here oops but idk banana joe ate them
