The Rise Of Natural Horse Care Products: Why They're Changing The Equine Industry
Over the past years, a major change has been observed within the equine industry primarily referring to natural horsecare products. This change is thus indicative of improving appreciation of the advantages that such products present to the users compared to conventional ones. Due to the complexity of modern horse training and handling, owners, trainers and others interested in equine health have been seeking natural products.
Why Natural Horse Care Products Are Gaining Popularity
Natural horse care products are on the rise for several good reasons as detailed below. To start with, they are more effective and a better overall way of addressing the health issues of equines. In contrast to other products that can come across as containing potentially synthetic chemicals, natural ones employ substances that are safer for a horse’s skin and bodily system. This decreases the potential of having side effects while enhancing the quality of the care given out to the patients.
Moreover, the concept of natural products frequently concerns the protection of nature and has an ecological approach. In buying these products, the owners of horses support other people’s conscience movement to go green. Most natural care products contain ingredients that are harvested from renewable sources and the products are developed bearing in mind the social obligations to the environment.
Benefits Beyond the Basics
What makes natural horse care products and horse trainer products even more appealing is the fact that they are safe for our environment too. Such products may contain nutrients and other compounds indispensable for the proper functioning of a horse. They can be formulated from natural compounds such as extracts from plants, which are used to improve the quality of the coat of the animal and its skin. In the same way, natural supplements can also provide specific help for the joints and your digestion, plus numerous other benefits.
Horse trainer products are also being incremented with such trends. Products that belong to this type are training aids and tools developed with a focus on the welfare of the horses. These products intend to provide comfort and protection for the horse, thus always focusing on training the horse naturally.
Benefits Beyond the Basics
The increase in the size of the horse industry makes it possible that more natural horse care products will be consumed. Many benefits have arisen from new research findings and improved technology in the making and application of these products. This move towards natural remedies is an indication of the increasing extent of awareness of proper irresponsibility in tending horses.
All in all, natural horse care products are a new direction in the development of the equine sector. They come with an indispensable number of benefits, including safer and more eco-friendly approaches than their predecessors to providing the horses with better health outcomes. More and more people and equestrian professionals have converted to these natural remedies; the future of horse treatment is waiting to go closer to nature and philosophy.

Pain Relief
I love Horse N Tale horse pain relief products and pain management spray. Nothing else I’ve tried makes a dent in my back pain, but Horse N Tale ArthritisEz spray works well. I ordered more to make sure I had some on a trip to a theme park. I sprayed it on in the morning, rubbed it in and spent the day pain free! That has never happened before! My husband used the PainEz for the neuropathy in…

Welp, might as well make my own faction since everyone else is doing it-
Operation Ichor belongs to @slumbrr-r
Welcome to Hidden Sanctuary or Sanctuary as it’s officially called. Literally the only known place with not only a surviving ecosystem but a thriving one. If you want fresh ingredients or natural remedies and resources, they’re the faction for you! Though they’re nestled in a hidden valley in a giant glass dome so good luck finding them.
Yapping down below. Beware it’s very long.
There are five total roles you could take outside of being a regular civilian:
The Farmers: Self explanatory, they are in charge of growing food and raising the animals for the people of the Sanctuary. Sometimes they’ll send some of their products to the traders.
The Architects: Essentially builders, they are the ones who build homes or important structures inside the Sanctuary a well as reinforcing the dome once a year. They also would build weapons for the defenders to use.
The Caretakers: Basically the healers. They tend to the wounded or sick and make sure they get the care they needed. Some would also be in charge of childcare for the daycare system.
The Defenders: The protectors of Hidden Sanctuary. They make sure no intruders get through the dome especially twisteds. They control who gets in and out the dome and will double check outsiders just to make sure none are twisted or hiding ulterior motives that could prove detrimental to the Sanctuary.
The Traders: The only role who travels beyond the dome. They would trade items such as fresh food or resources only the Sanctuary would be able to produce in exchange for items like metal or even weaponry that the Sanctuary can’t get access to or create otherwise. Basically the more valuable item you have, the more likely the traders would give you better quality crops or even a horse or cattle if you’re lucky.
Onto the founders!
They are the ones who contributed to creating the dome and its current operations. They are also the leaders of each role that’s available.
Florean is the leader of the Farmers. He basically makes sure the crops and animals are up to quality and doesn’t tolerate any less. He’s generally friendly and quite the hard worker, often being seen toiling away in the fields. Florean has a neutral stance on outsiders as to him, as long as they don’t bring harm to the toons already living there or to the other Founders, what’s the harm of letting them hang around? Though he does keep an eye on them, just in case.
Indigo is the leader of the Architects. He oversees the building operations and makes sure everything is going smoothly. Indigo is quiet and reserved who often can be found napping at odd times throughout the day when off-duty. This tends to get him a lecture from the other Founders, mostly by Blossom and Blade but he is competent at what he does. Indigo is weary of outsiders and tends not to interact with them much. Though he isn’t outright against their presence in the Sanctuary, he still worries of ulterior motives.
Blossom is the leader of the Caretakers. He’s the main healer of the dome and is the one who procures the medication and natural remedies needed to tend to the injured or ill. Blossom is very maternal and kind-hearted, often making the effort to check in on the people around him to make sure they’re doing well both physically and mentally. He’s very welcoming of outsiders and would make an effort to make their visit comfortable. Blossom sympathizes with the twisteds and would sometimes sneak in food their way, even if they can’t really eat.
Blade is the leader of the Defenders. She basically acts as the head general and assigns other Defenders to different posts around the dome of the Sanctuary. Blade is fiercely protective of the Sanctuary and its inhabitants and has a deep seated loyalty towards the other Founders. Blade has a lot of suspicions when it comes to outsiders and tends to be openly hostile towards them if she suspects foul play which Blossom often reins her back from. Overall the least likely to actually warm up to an outsider out of the five Founders.
Loop is the leader of the Traders. She’s the one who oversees the trade market and is the main inspector of all the goods that are brought back to the Sanctuary to ensure their quality before giving them out for the other Founders to make use of. Loop is laidback and acts unbothered by the world around her most times. Though Loop acts aloof most times, she does show empathy and kindness to the less fortunate and is very fond of the other Founders in her own unique way. Loop is relatively friendly towards outsiders given she’s interacted with them the most out of all the Founders. Though she still keeps them at arms length.
The Founders essentially act like a dysfunctional but loving family. While they all have differing approaches to dealing with outsiders, they will provide those in need shelter and the resources before sending them on their way once they can survive on their own.
Relations to the other factions (the cannon ones anyway):
Gardenview- Neutral, both factions barely come across each other especially with the Sanctuary’s secretive nature.
Ruin Corp- Friendly, the Traders would sometimes seek out their services for when they need help transporting goods around the city.
Zodiac- Hostile, all Zodiac members are one of the few banned toons and if they attempt to come near the dome it’s on sight for the Defenders.
The Merchant Order- Friendly, the Traders have a blast getting new things from that faction each time they trade.
Note that these relations are up to change if the creator wishes to put their own input on the relations of these factions with my own.
That’s all, have a good day/night!

you've posted a few ai generated images as items lately, and i'm wondering if that's intentional or not?
Short answer: no, it wasn't. Aside from a few I made when the generators first became publicly available and all the images were gooey messes, they've all been reader-submitted, although I'll admit I didn't catch the snail-boots. Personally I think AI image generators are a more nuanced situation than a lot of opinions I've seen on Tumblr, but given that they can be used so evilly, I'm steering away from them, if only to avoid the Wrath of the Disk Horse.
Long answer, and this is just my take, if you want to really get into it you'll have a much more interesting conversation with the people with devoted AI art blogs instead of me occasionally sharing things people submit:
There have been some major cases of unethical uses for it, but I think it's important to remember why AI image generators are such an issue; data scraping and regurgitating uncredited indie art is bad, but in the case of the snail-boots, it was just a fusion of one dataset of "product photos of boots" and another of "nature photos of snails", which I would say is not depriving anyone of credit or recognition for their work (MAYBE photographers, if you're a professional nature photographer or really attached to a picture you took of a snail one time?) I get the potential misuses of it, but when Photoshop made it easy to manipulate photos, the response was "hmm let's try and use this ethically" instead of "let's ban photo editing software". Like, I'd feel pretty unethical prompting it with "[character name] as illustrated by [Tumblr illustrator desperate for commissions]" or even "[character name] in DeviantArt style", but I'd have a hard time feeling bad for prompting with "product photo of a Transformer toy that turns into the Oscar Meyer Wienermobile". I know there's the question of "normalizing" the services but I think that overestimates how much the techbros running these things care about how everyday consumers use their free products, preferring to put their effort towards convincing companies to hire them to generate images for them, and in that case they respond way better to "here are some ways to change your product so that I would be willing to use it" than to "I will never use your product". For example here's one I just made of "the holy relic department at Big Lots", fusing corporate retail photos and museum storage rooms.
TL/DR: on the one hand I understand the hate that AI gets and it's not something I'm planning on using for any of my creative projects, but on the other hand I think it's overly simplistic to say it's inherently bad and should never be used ever. On the third hand, I really hate participating in arguments over complex ethical philosophy, so I'm just gonna steer clear entirely.

unfortunately if I want to independently develop a hypothesis about Rohan's economic/subsistence structure I really need to learn things like the requirements of taking care of horses in the winter and the growing seasons/growing lengths of crops like lettuce, radishes, carrots, and kale, and metalworking time and space commitments, and the types of houses that can be erected and torn down quickly, and the required land area of grazing per horse, and the social organization of Iron Age Eurasian horse cultures, and what other animals might naturally live on the Mark, and productivity and caloric value of mare's milk,
and like. also reread the Lord of the Rings lol
#I think the Rohirrim should have a tradition of eating their horses when they die#burying a horse takes a lot of effort. you aren't doing that for all of them. Kings' horses get buried with the king maybe.#but not normal people's horses. you are making a meal of them and you are celebrating the horse's life and how your beloved horse#who served you so faithfully in life now joins you in death; how it nourishes you now the way it supported you before#the death of a beloved horse has a big funerary feast where the feast is the horse#and like. there do not appear to be buffalo or antelope on the plains of the Mark. They need protein from somewhere#They could also maybe have sheep and goat herds that they take out onto the plains with their horses as pastoralists. another possibility#however. consider. a culture of. Horse-lords are part horse. they take the horses into themselves to honor them and always be part of them#you wouldn't just eat a horse like you'd eat a cow. there is a whole funerary production. you do eat them tho#I'm onto something here#Lord of the Rings

Finally made....a...gary stu wild kratts oc, i can go for a human oc but...i think an animal oc in wild kratts would fit more..
His design took like several concept art to get to the finished product, i know that you should just have fun making a mary sue oc because who cares like I KNOW! Im doing this for fun by analyzing my oc
Ok so...i want to make a gary stu oc, but i want it so it fits in the wild kratts universe and somewhere leaning to real-ish biology in animals. And this might be...in my opinion, the best gary stu oc ive ever made ever because..let me just explain
This is Einhorn, he is a newly discovered species who was found by the kratt brothers by accident, he is a unicorn and very endangered too, though many depictions of unicorns are horses with a horn but he's not a horse but a type of antelope who has only one horn, his fur is not very blue but as much blue as any fur colour it could get because blue pigment in fur is VERY rare, almost impossible for mammals to even gain, i mean blue is just rare in general in nature, and purple eyes are also really rare in animals, very few humans with albinism have purple eyes and honestly...love it

He is a calf so it's perfect, martin is the one who named him einhorn, because ein is one in german..heh..COUGH..anyway the crew loves him because he's a new species, a literal unicorn, and adorable, he has a very energetic and enthusiastic personality, reckless, independent, and very affectionate
Reason why he's perfect? Because...HE IS A REAL LIFE (atleast in the show not irl) UNICORN, and the fact that he's a baby is better for the villains, Donita would LOVE him, either use him as decoration, fashion wear, or even use him as a faannnccyy pet since he's pretty handsome as an adult, it'll catch everyones eyes seeing someone riding a unicorn.. Zach? I mean this motherfucker will get the chance to sell this guy for billions or even be his bodyguard and OR transportation when he's older.. Gaston loves to try endangered or even rare animals so Einhorn is big business for him
Einhorn (adult version) is very strong and fast, like a rhino he could topple a pride of lions with his horn and thick skin as protection, but in the end he's still that affectionate lil goofball
I put too much detail and thought on this guy but thats the POINT!!! Im having fun!!! Man!!

'They can't put mentally ill people in camps and force them to work that would never happen in the US'.
Look into the Troubled Teen Industry. All of it- their 'wellness retreats', their 'therapeutic boarding schools', their 'camps'. There are thousands if not millions of people - children, but some are even kept past their 18th birthdays- in this country and many others who are being forced to do manual labor and endure psychological and physical torture for crimes as small as smoking a joint or not listening to their parents. Children have *died* in these places from neglect, improper restraint, and worse. And those who survive struggle with trauma, not being believed about their experiences, and all the baggage that comes with that.
The most common kids who end up in TTI facilities are foster or adopted youth, LGBTQ+ teenagers coming from conservative families (Conversion therapy- which is still legal in many states- is often offered by these TTI facilities even if that isn't their primary listed function), and teenagers with mental illness or who struggle to maintain grades in school. Many of these children have unidentified learning disabilities or have been misdiagnosed in some way.
Their parents are preyed on by 'counselors' or 'professionals' claiming this beautiful wellness retreat in the woods will make your kids feel better and give them the tools to be productive members of society. They're offered glossy pamphlets full of smiling children and beautiful campuses. They're told their kids will do activities like 'horse therapy' or 'nature appreciation', maybe they're even encouraged to talk to a parent whose kid is currently in the program and hear about how much more peaceful their lives have become with their problem child off 'getting the help they need'.
Calls and communication out of these facilities are tightly monitored. Children lose privileges if they speak badly about the program, their parents are told their kids will lie about the treatment and try to manipulate them to come home early. These kids are forced to perform manual labor in the form of animal care, fence building, hole digging, and much much more. They are publicly humiliated and punished for misbehavior, subjected to unapproved 'therapy' techniques, and often physically and sexually abused by staff. These facilities come up with any excuse to get parents to keep their kids in the program longer, they lie about children misbehaving and recommend more time. It is one of the most evil and predatory industries that exists and while some individual programs have been shut down or exposed, there has been no large-scale effort to stop this problem. And there's a reason why. Many of the people running these places are in politicians' pockets, have influence in high circles and cut their buddies in on the profits or even send a few kids to work on their land to 'learn responsibility'. It's trafficking, torture, and enslavement.
The framework for what we're scared of already exists. The *facilities* for it already exist- ranches, boarding schools, campuses, residential treatment facilities. All they have to do is change a few laws around and use some fancy language and suddenly instead of a mandatory 72-hour hold after a suicide attempt or something similar you have to go to a 'wellness retreat' instead. Get caught with weed in an illegal state? Mandatory 'rehab' at a forest facility or some shit. And people will not leave these places because they won't have parents waiting on the other side wondering where all their money is going.
You think it can't happen because you aren't paying attention to what already *is* happening. Wake up. Fight back. Now.

Writing Notes: Horses & their Personalities
According to J. Warren Evans in the popular animal science textbook Horses: A Guide to Selection, Care and Employment, horses have 6 basic temperament types. Here’s a rundown on the temperament types and how each is best handled:
Quiet. This horse is commonly referred to as bomb-proof by owners and a packer by riding instructors for his unreactive nature. He will tolerate almost anything, from a fluttering flag to an uncoordinated rider with inexperienced hands. This type can generally be trusted to behave safely and to build the confidence of beginner riders, while a more advanced rider might consider him too dull.
Interested. These horses are great for riders with a little training and experience. In well-trained hands, these horses pay attention to the rider’s aids but aren’t upset by them. While they are aware of their environment and respond to things going on around them, it’s unusual for them to react with fight-or-flight behavior. As long as this horse is handled with consideration and sensitivity, riders will seldom go wrong with this sort. Many of the horses you see collecting ribbons at local horse shows fit into this category, as they are both animated and dependable.
Nervous. Nervous is the personality type truest to equine nature, and consequently many horses fit into this category. The flight response in nervous horses is well-developed. They spook easily, perhaps even bolting to escape from perceived dangers all around. They tend to carry their heads high, looking for trouble and ready to react. For a quiet and experienced rider, this horse can eventually make a very nice mount. For a tentative rider, he can be a wreck waiting to happen. Most can eventually develop some trust and a sense of security from confident yet sympathetic riders who allow them to progress in training. They require extreme patience and confident handling from the rider. You cannot rush the trust they require before they can progress. If you can learn to work with the challenge, these horses can be worth it and wonderful to show as they tend to possess an extra brilliance in spirit and movement.
Extremely Nervous. These horses are so reactive that virtually anything can set them off, and even changes in footing or shadows on the ground could cause fearful explosions at any time. Calm, consistent handling while slowly expanding their comfort zones will ultimately benefit them, but the road will be long and often dangerous. You must stay especially alert at all times. These horses are best left to professionals or to individuals with loads of experience and a solid foundation in equine behavior principles.
Stubborn. These horses tend to resent work and try to find a way out of it. When pushed, they often become irritable and balky, sometimes even exploding in temper. Trainers often encounter behavior that sets back training, requiring repetitions of lessons already learned. These horses also require riders with a lot of patience, but while the nervous horse requires a quiet hand, stubborn horses need a tactful yet firm approach.
Treacherous. These horses, with the notable exception of a few naturally aggressive stallions, are nearly always either a product of bad handling or benign neglect. They either haven’t learned to respect humans or have learned to actively resent them. Such horses may unexpectedly attack humans by kicking, biting or stomping on them. Horses who simply lack an understanding of their place below humans on the dominance hierarchy may sometimes be reformed by the most experienced of handlers. Sadly, euthanasia is sometimes the only safe solution for savage horses. Fortunately, such horses are rare.
Many horses seem to fluctuate daily between types. But this is what makes each ride unique and each day a lesson.
In addition to the above mentioned temperaments, the following personalities are reported to be observed in horses:
Friendly. Friendly types enjoy human companionship and frequently form strong bonds with their riders. They are the kind of horses that will nickel when they see you coming and enjoy being groomed and fussed over. They are often very willing partners and can excel in any discipline, although they may lack the competitiveness of some of the other types. These horses make excellent first mounts for beginners because they are so forgiving and willing to please. They are also frequently used in therapeutic riding programs because of their gentle nature.
Cuddler. Cuddlers are horses that love physical affection. They enjoy being close to their humans and often seek out physical contact. They frequently nuzzle, rest their heads on you, and even fall asleep while being groomed. This type of horse is often very affectionate and bonds strongly with its riders. They make excellent mounts for beginners and children because they are so patient and gentle. Cuddlers are often used in therapeutic riding programs because of their calming presence.
Go-Getter. Go-getters are horses that are always up for a challenge. They love to work and are very motivated by food, praise, and attention. These types of horses often excel in competition because they are so eager to please their riders. They can be a bit challenging to train because they can be easily bored. However, once they trust their rider, they will give their all in any situation. These horses make excellent mounts for experienced riders who are looking for a willing partner.
Laid-Back. Laid-back types are the chillaxed of the horse world. They are not particularly motivated by food, praise, or attention. They often enjoy a good scratch and will stand quietly while being groomed, but they are not usually fond of being fussed over. These horses frequently lack motivation and can be challenging to train. However, once they trust their rider, they can be very reliable partners. These horses make excellent mounts for experienced riders who are looking for a laid-back mount.
Of course, not every horse fits perfectly into one of these categories. Many horses have traits from multiple types or their own unique combination of qualities. The best way to get to know your horse's personality is to spend time with them and observe their behaviour.
Temperament - can be defined as innate properties of the nervous system, whereas personality includes the complex behavioral traits acquired through life.
Association between personality and behavior is important for breeding, selection, and training of horses. Sackman & Houpt (2018) evaluated if equine personality components previously identified in Japan and Europe were consistent when applied to American horses.
They examined the association of personality with breed, age, sex, management, training, stereotypies, and misbehaviors.
The owner directed personality survey consisted of 25 questions.
An online version of the survey was created.
The principal component analysis method was used to associate behavioral traits with personality components.
Factor analysis with orthogonal transformation was performed on scores for personality-related questions.
A total of 847 survey responses were used.
Quarter Horses, “other” breed, and Thoroughbred were the most common breeds.
Three principal personality components were extracted as each behavioral trait belonged to one of these three components.
Arabians, Thoroughbreds, Saddlebreds, and Walking horses were the most nervous and Quarter Horses, and Paints, Appaloosas, and Drafts were the least nervous.
Using the key personality components, they were able to establish and refute links between personality type such as nervousness, curiosity, and threatening and trained discipline.
They found that horses who kicked doors, bit, and had more than one stereotypy had a more threatening personality than those horses with no stereotypy.
Genetics, as demonstrated by an association between personality components and breed, play the largest role in equine personality with environmental factors, such as association and experience with humans, social contact, and housing applying a significant influence on the expression of specific behaviors/traits.
All horses are individuals with their own unique personality traits, just like people. However, there are some generalisations that can be made about different types of horses based on their breed, history, and physical characteristics.
Some popular horse types include:
American Quarter Horse: These horses are known for their athleticism and speed and are often used in rodeos and racing.
Arabian: Arabians are one of the oldest horse breeds in the world and are known for their intelligence and stamina.
Icelandic: These hardy horses are used for a variety of purposes including riding, pulling carts, and herding sheep.
When it comes to personalities, some horses are more outgoing and social while others are more independent and aloof.
Some horses are very curious and playful, while others are calmer and more serious.
There is no right or wrong when it comes to horse personalities, but it is important to match the right horse with the right owner based on their individual needs and personality traits.

So, I’m a big sucker for in-detail worldbuilding, and I have some questions regarding your Transformer-humans AU. Since the Quintesson invasion occurred in the 20’s-40’s(?) what’s some cultural “fun-facts” that results from that? Like how does car racing come about, since the Prohibition mafias/gangs that originated NASCAR probably didn’t exist or were wildly altered? Does chocolate chip cookies still exist? What about other popular medias from that time? Do spaghetti westerns still exist? Etc.
Ooooh this is one of the questions I want to turn around in my head like a rotisserie chicken while I think about 5++ paragraphs of bouncing off the walls BS but I'll try to throw in what I know as of currently! One also has to note that it's going to be hard to condense 'cultural facts' since TTB doesn't take place in the Americas nor is it even constrained by one specific landmass.
There's going to be some rambling, so everything under the cut!
There is a 20-year gap in human culture/subculture circa the 1920s where time effectively 'stopped' for a lot of people due to the invasion, so a lot of the 1920s aesthetic is preserved and celebrated as the 'golden age' before everything change, even more so than it is now. A lot of the (western) characters dress in what you'd probably consider Modern Gangs Of New York (waistcoat, flatcaps, suspenders, etc) sensibilities, despite tech advancements.
Going off the above, a lot of the architecture you'd see is neo-Art Deco in nature.
Cars are an interesting questionmark here, mainly because I've established earlier on that they are nowhere near as commonplace as they are in our actual, current world, and not even in the Global Car Central of the USA. This is mainly due to prioritisation of resources for rebuilding (Quintessons did not care for oil given their advanced tech, but they very much coveted minerals/rare earth elements/metals during their invasion so distinctively, the rich in TTB are steel barons, not oil barons), so even middle-range cars tend to be a bit of a luxury item and will turn heads. Most governments aren't going to allocate those resources for mass production of personal vehicles (excluding utility vehicles like jeeps and trucks). Your average Joe relies mostly on public transport, like trains, trams, LRTs and Workers' Buses established by companies for their employees in less developed areas.
Per the above, NASCAR in its original iteration doesn't exist. There IS car racing, but it's consider 'upper class', rather like horse racing, and is the hobby of those who can afford it. Think the 24 Hours of Le Mans. It's not really 'accessible' to the common folk and it's mainly focused on reviving the personal automotive industry as a recreational/luxury sector.
That said, two-wheeled vehicles are a different story. These are smaller, take up less resources, are easier to maintain, modify and more importantly, hide. By 2050, they're the most popular form of personal transport, and Gojek-like delivery services are common in cities (Groove is a Gojek-type rider).
As such, motorcycle races are much more popular than car races in TTB due to the accessibility factor and how often they were used during the Quintesson Wars, being easier to move around, maneuver and harder to target. Quintesson War rebels on the ground took to motorcycles like the Bedouins/Mongolian soldiers to horses, and would decorate them the same way pilots would decorate their warplanes.
Therefore, the common layfolk go fucking bonkers for MotoGP, and biker gangs are very common.
There is the Olympics which focuses on the countries coming together, but also something like a massive global 'War Games' that occurs once every decade from 1950 to 2050 on the anniversary of earth's victory in the Quintesson Wars which focuses on each country's readiness and collaboration with others to face future invasions. It's a pretty huge affair.
Going off the veneration of the Roaring 20s, Speakeasies are still a thing here, but to the layfolk, they aren't as associated with crime as they are with rebellion. They're still known for serving alcohol but due to their hidden nature, they were also where fragmented communities would seek shelter/gather to relay plans. Within the USA, against govt regulation, some still operate in the dark smuggling contraband to underserved communities and providing an underground network for Cold Constructs to flee to borders, for a price of course.
Company Towns are common, due to logistics during rebuilding efforts---it made sense to have workers all in one area, and also made it easier to segregate the different classes from one another.
Spaghetti Westerns PROBABLY still exist to some extent, but nowhere near the level of Space Westerns. Because aliens cropped up in the timeline way, WAY earlier and left behind tech in the wake of their invasion that sped up mankind's space programmes, daytime TV would be proliferated with shows like Firefly and Battlestar Galactica.
Television itself skipped several stages---there was no setup for mechanical televisions. What TTB knows as 'TVs' were reversed engineered from stolen Quintesson tech (screens, similar to LCDs today), and the first 'TV's were basically used to break into Quintesson comms and spy on them/broadcast plans from one rebel cell to another.
The discourse between 'alien-friendly' media like Star Trek and propaganda-style 'alien negative' ones like Starship Troopers is intense.
Godzilla is. Very popular here. With a divergent background that he was was one of many animals mutated by Quintesson experiments to create biomes that better suited them. Against the alien threat of Ghidorah, he represents earth's ability to persevere, evolve and become a terrifying entity against alien forces seeking to subjugate it.
Science-adjacent, but Penicillin was discovered on the advent of rebels figuring out that aliens aren't well-quipped to handle diseases and infections caused by bacteria native to earth, and started employing biological warfare against them in the early stages of the counterattack period, before they had mastered the use of tech warfare/mobilized enough resources to take on the Quintessons head-on.
Chocolate chip cookies wouldn't be a thing for a while due to the lack of chocolate specifically, which is an industry only redeveloped back to commercial levels years after the invasion ended (it wasn't a priority). Its creation was likely attributed to a lower middle class woman attempting to spread out what little chocolate she managed to get her hands on to feed several people in a way that didn't necessarily feel like it was being 'rationed', and it became a popular, economical way to enjoy this little luxury.

Natural Horse Care Products Must Be Used To Keep The Animal Safe, Healthy And Energetic!
Horses are large and strong animals known for their beauty and speed. They have been friends to humans for thousands of years. They come in many colors like brown, black, white and gray. Some horses have spots or patches of different colors. Their manes and tails can be long, they live in many parts of the world and can adapt to different climates. They are herbivore which means they eat plants. Grass is their favorite food, but they also enjoy hay, oats and special horse feed. This animal needs a lot of water to stay healthy, mainly when it is hot outside. There are many breeds of horses, each with unique behavior and quality. Some horses are small while others are very tall.
Use natural products only
Natural products are items made from things found in nature. These products do not contain any artificial ingredients. Many people choose natural horse care products because they believe they are safer and better for the horse. Health supplements made from natural sources can help support wellness. Vitamins, minerals and herbs are common natural supplements. Using natural products has many benefits. They are free from harmful chemicals that make them safer for pets. They are also better for the planet because they are made from renewable resources and are biodegradable. Using natural products can lead to a healthier and more sustainable lifestyle.
Vital for both the trainers and their horses
Horse trainers use many products to help care for and train horses. These products are important for keeping horses healthy, safe and well behaved. There are different types of horse trainer products that include grooming tools, training equipment, health supplies and riding gear. Grooming tools are important for keeping a horse clean and healthy. Training equipment helps horse trainers teach horses new skills and behaviors. Health supplies are crucial for a horse’s well being. Riding gear is necessary for both the horse and the rider. Feeding tools like feed buckets and water troughs are also used by horse trainers.

OK back with now some specific, isolated skag facts about Tusk's skags!! They were both found locked in a cage behind a skag on a stick stand as pups/juveniles, and had essentially been trapped there most of their life. Tusk, naturally, stole them [cage and all], and ran. Skewer, who was a little older, was a juvenile at the time. She was missing a leg [chopped off]m and is a Howler skag! [A fan-skag species made by @doglintime for Tusk, ty bestie!] Here's some art of them real quick before the super yap.
Jackwes was younger, only a pup, and a normal skag at the time Tusk got them. Both of them have their own respective personalities, and animals they're based off of, but both of them started out as wild. undomestic skags. [To my knowledge, both were taken from their families in the wild] And you may be asking, Splat, why does this matter? Wouldn't Tusk just be able to tame them as wild skags? And the answer is yes, however, it would be a lot harder to do so, with a lot more complications. Which leads into this, that I believe that many, tiny subsets and subspecies of skag exist, and in this specific case, Jackwes and Skewer evolved their own sort of domesitcation under Tusk's care. All of because of environmental pressure. Side note, these are the animals both Skewer [Spotted Hyena + Camel/Horse + Monitor lizards] and Jackwes [Striped Hyenas + Three banded armadillos + Elephants/Bloodhounds]. But Splat! The pressure to evolve wouldn't be too bad, right? WRONG! Sort of, at least. While Tusk, nor anyone else in tftbl put any pressure under the skags in that manner, everyone in the story still are running from Vallory's gang. The skags have to live in an environment with strictly humans [and robots], while on the run. While it's a different type of pressure from the wilds of Pandora, it's still a subtle one. And, since it's still pandora, it isn't exactly the same as domestication here. [They're still gonna eat other skags, etc, etc.] Skewer, I theorize would evolve in a more subtle way, but quicker than Jackwes. She is older, has more pressure on her to change and adapt. All the most common signs of domestication would develop, heightened intelligence, etc etc. Her species is normally territorial, and more solitary than normal skags. [Funfact, the females of her species also grow antlers/horns and all of them can make piercing screams.] It made her training, in the beginning a lot, LOT harder, but she ended up being extremely loyal, just as much so as Jackwes. Near the end of her juvenile she's large enough to be ridden by everyone but Rhys and Tusk [who are both too heavy/tall at that time]. But still retaining her species as compared to the skag riders in the general knoxx dlc and lynchwood. The technical progression would look like this, let's use just a stand in scientific name for Howler skags Skag ululatus -> Skag uluatus familiaris. Not much changes other than the fact Skewer is now a domestic version of a Howler skag. Jackwes, on the other hand, is just a normal skag. The kind you see running around as adults all the time. On top of that, his growth is stunted, and he's about half a head/a head shorter than a normal skag during most of his development. He's often too fast to be hit, and can rely on Tusk, Skewer, or anyone else to protect him. He doesn't need to change, and doesn't. At least to start out. Jackwes, as a normal skag would be used to a large pack dynamic. No problem, seeing as he's in a van with a bunch of other people all the time. But there are times were it's just the three of them. Tusk gets sick, Skewer can get hurt despite her size, and slowly over time, boom, pressure. Jackwes, for a while, would just adapt like this. Skag cunicidae -> Skag cunicidae familiaris. But I thought it would be cool if he went on to evolve to something that wasn't really found in the wild. And while it could happen, it's more a specific product of him being raised around humans and a different skag species. Skewer for the most part has a lot of physical differences compared to a normal skag. Antlers, a longer, more muscular neck, sensitive hearing, worsened eyesight and a terrible sense of smell.
Jackwes, on the other hand, barely has any differences, other than his smaller size. And that gave me an idea, what if he filled in that kind of pack role? A tracker skag, [hence the previous elephant and bloodhound base, which I am SO sure does not make sense other than in this context, just for their olfactory senses.] He could fill in for what Skewer absolutely can't, and that would make his full "evolutionary line" Skag cunicidae -> Skag cunicidae familiaris -> Skag vestidae familiaris. "These Skags have shown subtle, yet significant changes upon living and pack bonding with six humans."
#MAAAJOR yap warning and there's still sm more#borderlands#tales from the borderlands#tftbl#borderlands oc#fight tusk and nail#borderlands ocs#maybe more about their dynamics with everyone later#it took me a day to write this because I was lazy#but at the end of the day this is all spec bio#but i thought it would be So Cool#and something I don't see people do with the whole like rapid evo thing#Fl4k has it with their pandoran animals [and jabber] and I was like hey hi mind if i steal that a little

i feel like talking about my house bolton oc so let's word vomit some stuff about her and her supporting cast. content warnings for animal death, mild gore, corpse mutilation, age gap, recreational surgery 🫀🗡
her name is helicent bolton which i'm not super attached to but i have found naming her incredibly difficult and this was the option i hated least. she is the eldest daughter of lord beron bolton, from a fictionalized historical incarnation of house bolton that requires me to learn exactly nothing of what goes on in awoiaf or in fire and blood. her mother, lady hela bolton, was beron's first wife. she had multiple difficult pregnancies and stillbirths before nearly dying in childbirth while delivering helicent. her not-all-too aggrieved father gave her an h-name in honor of her mother and her disappointing miracle baby.
helicent is tall and kind of boney. she has her father's sharp cheekbones and long downturned nose, and her eyes are a pale, washed out grey. not entirely colorless, but dull and flat and downturned. her black hair falls past her knees and she wears it braided in a tight crown wrapped around her head.
hela never recovered from helicent's birth, remaining waifish and sickly for all of helicent's lonely childhood. beron had myriad concerns outside of his dour immediate family, and took no youths to foster, so helicent's childhood companions were all adults as she showed no interest in mingling with the household's lower born children. she had a sharp head for numbers and from a very young age was interested in the practical drudgery of running a household (sums and accounting, harvest and production, the minutia of keeping a staff) but not in any of the courtesies a lady of the house would be expected to display. she was a reserved and serious child, with a dull flat affect. she loved arithmetic and history and didn't care for music or embroidery.
hela died just before helicent turned ten, and beron took a second wife (the same age as hela was when they were first wed seventeen years ago 😒) who promptly delivered him three healthy and hale sons: helman (that one stung), luton, and ondrew. the boys were close in age and close to one another. they didn't feel any particular way about helicent and she didn't feel any particular way about them, as she was a naturally cagey, solitary person and found avoiding them both easy and preferable. she felt, as soon as she was told of helman's birth and given name, that she had been put far from her father's mind. she was no longer his concern, now that he had heirs to spare.
this didn't bother her overmuch, as her childhood to that point had been largely free from her father's influence. between her permissive solitude and the company of the dreadfort's household staff helicent had developed an …anatomist's temperament.
she has no interest in inflicting or enduring pain, but a rapt fascination in observing it as it occured in others. she began killing animals as soon as she found the strength to do so swiftly, pulling and prodding at their inert little corpses and finding tools to assist in her amateur dissection. she was fascinated by the inner workings of the bodies that served as her playthings, and would hound the household maester (maester oskirk) for medical texts and lessons. as a very young girl she entertained the notion that she would grow up to be a maester one day and study human anatomy at the citadel, but she was dissuaded of this very quickly. the killing of animals crests at the sudden and inexplicable death of her father's favorite horse. the whole of the dreadfort's staff is questioned and multiple people give solid alibis for thirteen year old helicent but beron, distant and uninterested as he was, was not a blind fool. he told her she was to be married off and cast out of his sight.
she spends the next three years scaring off prospective young northern would-be lords, all second and third sons. she isn't purposeful in spurning their offers just sort of openly and unabashedly demented. at some point a stableboy turns up dead in the snow, with his tongue, genitals, and nipples removed. the mutilation was done to his body after he was killed and the trophies are never recovered. suspicion for the murder and the butchery immediately falls on helicent but there is a large amount of doubt. she's tall but slight, and not physically strong enough to have overpowered the boy, taller than her by a head and significantly stronger. the working theory becomes that someone else killed him and helicent defiled the body. beron announces that she will be shipped off to the silent sisters and may the southron gods dole out whatever punishments they wish for what she does to the bodies left in her care.
the "someone" that it is suspected to have killed the stableboy -- who had struck up a one-sided friendship with helicent, following her around like a lovesick little kid and finding excuses to spend time near and around her regardless of how little she interacted with him -- is the captain of the dreadfort's household guard. a man i have a deep and abiding affection for but who i have not successfully named. i am bad at naming ocs. i'm the worst at it. i made the mistake of mentally referring to him as steelshanks once and it's fucked me completely for finding an actual name for him that isn't just a canon placeholder. no relation to walton steelshanks from the main series they just occupy the same position about a hundred years apart. for ease of this post i'm going to call him rodwell which is on a list of possible names i've been juggling for him and also a dumb dick joke.
rodwell and helicent are of a height - she, tall for a woman, and he, short for a man - but where she is young and slight he is old and broad. he is barrel chested, well muscled, heftier in his old age than he ever was in his youth and not as fast as he was then, but strong as an ox and keen. he wears his once-dark hair down past his shoulders and is lax about shaving his face, so his jowls and chins are usually covered in stubble. he and beron are of an age, and he's been captain of the dreadfort's guard since before helicent was born.
their relationship began as a genuine and fatherly affection for an odd, neglected child and grew quickly into an inappropriate closeness. rodwell dogs after helicent and helicent indulges his attention for everything he can give her in return. namely, after a few years of sitting in his lap, kissing his stubbly cheeks, reading to him at night because his eyes are "old and weak", she asks if she can cut him open. he agrees.
he's soon covered in faint surface scars from her amateur surgical exploration. after the first year or so she wants to go deeper and he won't let her unless the maester is involved, so helicent ropes maester oskirk into it. the pair sort of come at it sideways though rodwell's like absolutely not you cannot go deeper into the muscle unless oskirk is here to make sure i don't bleed out. and helicent' like ok and stabs straight through into his guts and well. then they gotta go get the maester anyway. oskirk doesn't take a lot of convincing he's sort of been worn down by helicent's antics over the years. frog boil effect.
anyway this post is getting unwieldy. at this point my timeline gets real wonky because i'm still pulling at this like a big tangle of yarn but eventually we get to a point where beron is dead (under suspicious circumstances…) and helman is the very-young-but-not-a-child lord of house bolton whose big sister is in charge of all the practical day to day realities of managing a household. helman and helicent are cordial with one another. he leaves her alone because she wants to be left alone. he is in reality doing her a great kindness by not forcing her out of his house and also not forcing her to marry, but neither of them really see it that way. she's his weird attic-crawling mostly-quiet big sister and no threat to his own inheritance. they are peaceable. they speak to one another like awkward coworkers who do really well on assignment and then turn into stiff edgy deer in headlights if they ever cross paths in the hallway god forbid.
this relative peace doesn't last terribly long as helman is murdered by second-son luton (can't be proven but widely understood to be true) and he wants helicent out of his keep and his life. he arranges a marriage for her to the forty-something lord of a minor house far beneath her station. the lord in question (i also haven't named him i'm sorry i'm so bad at this please believe me i am trying my best) has two mysteriously (not very mysterious, though, is it?) dead wives so far and is the last possible choice for a woman of helicent's station. but she's old now (about twenty seven) and unwed with a weird reputation. turns out being like super efficient at medieval household management doesn't make serial surgical experimentation and murder any easier for anyone to tolerate. surprisingly, these two get on like a house on fire. big hammer horror's countess dracula vibe.
at some point rodwell ends up making the journey down (the minor house is called blyght (pronounced blight) (their sigil is a brown sprig of stinging nettle on an ochre field) and is at the northernmost edge of the riverlands/the southronmost edge of the north) to come see his girl with every intention of rescuing her from her brutish beneath-her-station husband and is shocked to find her well kept and well entertained. the next piece of the yarn tangle is how helicent convinces lord blyght to let him stay with them. they end up sort of being this reluctant duo of graverobber/murderers supplying their lady with fresh corpses for her… experimentation.

Low energy Devotional Acts for when you don’t have a lot of energy (or time, or money, etc.) pt. 8
🌾Demeter🌾
- if able go on a walk and enjoy the outdoors doesn’t have to be anywhere fancy it could literally just be a walk around the block
- if you can’t go on a walk either sit outside for a bit or just open some windows for some fresh air
- play farming simulator (you think I’m joking but I’m not) or watch vids of ppl playing it
- watch documentaries or do a deep dive on farming and all the stuff that goes with it (maybe you’re wanting to know more about tractors, or farming techniques over the years, etc.)
- if able attend a farmer’s market or look into any that are in your area you don’t necessarily need to buy anything you could just go look around (I do that regularly)
- learn about the role of a farmer and what it’s like to be a farmer (I worked on a farm for a bit in high school and while I loved it I couldn’t do it as a living it takes a very special someone to do it) and look up ways you can support them
- learn about the native plants in your area
- watch foraging videos and learn about it (how to safely do it especially, if it’s something you wish to do at some point)
- if able support local farmers by buying their products (I know here in wi it’s not uncommon for farm stands to pop up this time of year and they sell all sorts of stuff for good prices! One in my town sells the best corn and for only $1 a piece which is perfect)
- point out cows, horses, sheep, goats, etc. while going by them in the car
- learn about homesteading and watch videos about it (though I will issue a heads up that some of these folks veer into uh….’crunchy’ beliefs so just be careful I guess)
