“The nurses (National Health Service employees) are all walking around wearing ‘Free Palestine’ pins and he was scared,” Smus wrote. “Beyond that, the last few times he went in he was denied correct medical care by the same couple of nurses every time. This culminated the last time he went in, when my visibly Jewish, 9-year-old nephew, with an autoimmune blood disease was kicked out of his bay, by one of the nurses who was covered in pro-Palestine badges and stickers, and due to that, had to lie on the floor with a canula in.”
A second photo accompanying the post showed the boy lying on the hospital floor on the day that he attended wearing his religious garments.
Smus continued: “Now the damage is done and my proudly Jewish nephew (and his parents) is scared to not get treatment if he wears his kippa and tzitzit.” He then pointed out that “today when not visibly Jewish, he received quick care. Also worth noting, prior to the conflict [between Israel and Hamas terrorists in Gaza] he received excellent care.”
Smus said that his nephew’s experience was emblematic of the insecurity facing diaspora Jewish communities amidst the conflict in Gaza sparked by the Oct. 7 Hamas onslaught in Israel.
“What the actual fu*k is going on?” he wrote. “Is this the world we will live in? Is it 1940 again? It is terrifying to be a Jew in the world again.”
The case has now been taken up by the Jewish Representative Council of Greater Manchester (JRC), which filed a complaint with the hospital.
It noted the allegation that the boy “who is a religious Jew and clearly visible as such, was maltreated by several nurses who were wearing ‘Free Palestine’ badges in the outpatients department of Ward 84. Part of this maltreatment includes a failure to administer proper treatment and being removed from his cubicle and having to sit on the floor.”
The letter emphasized that “the child now feels terrified to return to hospital unless he hides his Jewish identity.”
The JRC urged the hospital authorities to investigate the allegations “as a matter of extreme urgency.”

Anyone in the UK:
Big survey on the NHS has been launched.
I am BEGGING people to go on and opine loudly that they need to get their shit together on retaining staff by any means necessary.
All their plans are great (yes we obv need a single system for records wtf is this 1990) but literally nowhere do they acknowledge that everything from "care in the community" to "preventing instead of treating" is currently in the fucking pits because
THERE ARE NO FUCKING STAFF OR SPECIALIST TRAINING PLACES
change.nhs.uk
please fucking do it

I just met Michael Sheen at the stage door to Nye. And he was the kindest person. There were nearly 100 people waiting. They crowded him in and he handled everything with a grace and kindness that was just impressive. Especially since it was a 2-show-day.
He didn’t move on until the person he was talking to was truly done. It felt like he was very much aware of how important this was to a lot of people and treated them with respect.
Additionally the cast of Nye was so good. Everyone was truly living the show and radiated such a joy and confidence. Wow.
@neil-gaiman thank you for bringing Aziraphale into this world and in the form of Michael Sheen onto our screens. It is truly a blessing.
And as at every stage door I’ve been at I’ve met new people and we talked for hours. Good Omens and the love for theatre bring people together 🥰🥰🥰 a wonderful experience every time.

An NHS Trust is investigating accusations that pro-Palestine nurses denied a nine-year-old Jewish boy care.
Elliott Smus, who is based in Tel Aviv, Israel, wrote on LinkedIn on Wednesday about an alleged incident at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital involving his young nephew, who suffers from a rare blood disorder.
Mr Smus said that his nephew, who has suffered with his condition for most of his life, requires a blood transfusion every month or two, spending up to days in hospital for treatment.
He said that his nephew is from a religious Jewish family and wears a kippah and tzitzit, clothing typically worn by orthodox Jewish males.
But he claimed that the child was “kicked out of his bay” by nurses wearing “Free Palestine” badges and forced “to lie on the floor with a canula in”.
As a result, Mr Smus said that his nephew is now scared that if he wears clothing that identifies him as visibly Jewish, he will not receive treatment.
Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust has launched an investigation.
Incident was ‘horrendous’
Countdown presenter Rachel Riley, who is Jewish, described the alleged incident as “horrendous” and called on Andy Burnham, the Mayor of Greater Manchester, and the NHS to investigate “with urgency”.

Mr Smus, who has been contacted for comment, said on social media: “As a religious Jewish family, my nephew wears his black kippah (yamulka, religious hat whatever you want to call it) and his tzitzit proudly.
“Not today. Why you ask? The nurses (NHS employees) are all walking around wearing “Free Palestine” pins and he was scared.
“Beyond that, the last few times he went in he was denied correct medical care by the same couple of nurses every time.
“This culminated the last time he went in, when my visibly Jewish nine-year-old nephew, with an autoimmune blood disease was kicked out of his bay by one of the nurses who was covered in pro-Palestine badges and stickers, and had to lie on the floor with a canula in.
“Now the damage is done and my proudly Jewish nephew (and his parents) is scared to not get treatment if he wears his kippah and tzitzit.
“Coincidentally, today when not visibly Jewish, he received quick care. Also worth noting, prior to the conflict he received excellent care.
“It is terrifying to be a Jew in the world again.”
Anti-Semitism at all-time high
The Community Security Trust, which records anti-Semitic incidents in the UK, said that anti-Semitism hit an all-time high in 2023 in an “explosion of hatred” following the Hamas terror attacks on Israel.
The charity said the surge in anti-Jewish attacks, threats and abuse amounted to a “celebration” of Hamas’s Oct 7 massacre by anti-Semites whose own hatred was fuelled by the brutality of the attacks.
Its annual report said that there were 4,103 anti-Semitic incidents in the UK in 2023, nearly double the previous record in 2021, covering all types of “hate” against Jewish people.
Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust said: “We are aware of images and very serious claims which are circulating on social media.
“We are rapidly investigating these to establish the situation and are discussing them with the family involved. Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital is committed to providing high-quality care to all patients.”
Mr Burnham said: “I have seen the troubling reports shared on social media and have asked the Royal Children’s Hospital to launch an urgent investigation. No one should feel treated differently in our hospitals because of their race or religion. I’ve asked the hospital management to provide regular updates as they gather the facts.”

The "be kind" "right side of history."
Let's put aside for a moment that it's unethical for medical professionals to be wearing political paraphernalia of any variety.
Whether or not the accusation is true, literally nobody doubts that people who are pro-Hamas and support Islamic terrorism are completely capable of this kind of atrocity.

still so incredibly, incredibly, pissed and angry about the NDIS changes.
people are already dying, important things are already canceled, what the fuck was the point?
save a couple billion dollars?
okay? now people are dead what was the point again?
it's not going to help people like me who SHOULD be on the NDIS for support and life shit.
(hi I suffer from post-covid! and severe debilitating asthma! not to mention learning disabilities that make things incredibly inaccessible to me because the government THEMSELVES don't make shit accessible!!!!!)
(I live in hell YAY!/j)
not to mention all the people on the waiting lists who are literally straight up dying, we already have mortalities!!!!!!
WE'VE HAD MORTALITIES FOR YEARS!!!!
we've only had the NDIS since 2013, I grew up without support from the NDIS because well I was born in the 2000s lol and it took a solid few years after that for it to work out some kinks and by the time it ended up being okay as a thing I had been disabled for 10 years and had 0 supports lol, and my family had been paying out of pocket.
also like my entire family didn't have any disability supports before me either, no one had them in those days, no one in the old country we only really got anything literally in 2018-2019 for one of my bisnonni THAT'S HOW BAD THE NDIS IS BTW.
at the very least she had a carer for some time, but it was not even a possibility for such a long time.
that again, one of my other bisnonni was completely fucked over, same problems effected her even worse in her own right.
(NDIS actually care about old people challenge: FAILED)
ALSO imagine having rights! hahahahahah.
(actually sobbing rn. most of us DO NOT, we are payed less then abled people!!!!)
I am bitching and moaning everyday, because I'm not stupid none of us are, even us stupid people (ily fellow learning disabled ppl and intellectually disabled ppl) we have been greatly fucked over for decades and decades, and still with the bare fucking minimum shit it gets snatched or abused or we get scammed.
it's fucked, it's so, so, fucked.
medicare doesn't cover optical, dental, or a shit ton of other things.
the government straight up hates us all, I can not tell you the amount of bullshit I've been through, the ableism is intense!!!!! it's why I got so good at masking my very obvious learning disabilities fuck all of us for real.
like, the depression and STRAIGHT UP FEAR!!!
dude, fucked up shit.
I have so so many stories, I can't even begin to tell you.
honestly shame on 'em, I'm using my newfound free speech to bitch and moan.
because like, I do not genuinely think half the things that allow me to bitch and moan about being disabled was a thing when I was a kid, like genuinely!
honestly I wish international disabled allies could idk join in and be angry with us, we have all been through hell.
and it's fucked.

Elliot Pfebve, 55, is the first patient in England treated with a personalized vaccine for bowel cancer at Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Thousands more patients will receive the experimental vaccine, not as a cure but to target remaining cancer cells after treatment.
The NHS will match patients to clinical trials for their specific tumors via the Cancer Vaccine Launch Pad, using mRNA technology to train immune systems to combat cancer cells.

Customer: People in the UK talk about the National Health like it’s the greatest thing ever.
Several conversations later:
My boss: Yeah, Brits seem to live to be amazingly old. Maybe it’s something in the genes.
Me: Maybe it’s the National Health they all think is so great

It literally took all day to collect a single prescription for my mum;
Went down to boots pharmacy this morning, no pharmacist so nobody can get their prescriptions or any over the counter medicine.
Went down in the afternoon, queued for half an hour, turns out the pharmacy at the gp surgery had locked it so I couldn’t collect it from boots.
The pharmacy at the gp has no products on the shelves so I can’t get the prescription from there. It turns out I can’t phone them to ask them to unlock the prescription because their phone lines have been cut off because they didn’t pay the bill.
I have to drive up there, queue for another 20 minutes to ask them to unlock the prescription, then drive back down to boots to then ask them to prepare it.
Another 30 minutes later I finally have the prescription. There are several other people who I’ve seen travelling between both pharmacies (which are a 15 minute drive and 1 hour walk apart) to get their medicine. What the fuck are you supposed to do if you don’t have literal hours to spare.
People are being told they can’t have vital medicines because they’re not in stock or because the computer system has fucked up, after they’ve already been waiting days.
This country is a fucking shambles.

The term “woman” should not be “eradicated from our language in order to be inclusive and welcoming”, the Health Secretary has said as she announced plans to overhaul the NHS constitution to “ensure that biological sex is respected”.
Victoria Atkins said changes to the NHS Constitution will ensure language used in the health service is “clear” so that pregnant women are not referred to as “service users” to bolster inclusivity.
The Department of Health and Social Care said it is “defining sex as biological sex” with the new document, which underpins NHS care.
Proposed changes will also ensure hospital patients in England have the right to request to be treated on single-sex wards, with transgender people placed in rooms on their own.
But the British Medical Association warned the proposed changes could mean transgender and non-binary patients “potentially find their access to vital NHS services limited” while the Royal College of Nursing said changes to health policy should be done with patients “not unto them”.
Officials said that the update “is about putting patients first” and includes plans to accommodate requests for same-sex intimate care.
Ms Atkins told Sky News: “We have said in the consultation that we would like language to be clear.
“We know that in some parts of the NHS some language is used which is meant with the best of intentions to include, be inclusive, but it can, I think, also actually exclude people.”
She added: “For example, I visited a wonderful maternity unit recently full of warmth and joy and happiness with wonderful members of staff, but they were talking about ‘service users’ and I realised after a while they meant women or mums-to-be or mothers – the language that we would use in conversation when talking about someone having a baby.
“So that sort of language … we shouldn’t have to eradicate women from our language in order to be inclusive and welcoming.
“If somebody walks in and they want to have a specific phrase or term used, of course we respect that, but it’s also about ensuring that biological sex is respected.”
She told Times Radio: “There will be listeners who are worried about the fact that they see articles in the paper about ‘chestfeeding’ and language such as that.
“We want language to be clear and make sense to people.”
Under the planned revisions, transgender people could be placed in a room on their own if another patient requests to be in a single-sex ward.
This would be permitted under the Equality Act 2010 when appropriate, “such as respecting a patient’s wish to be in a single-sex ward”, Government officials said.
In October, former health secretary Steve Barclay said he would look into changing the constitution to address concerns about trans women using wards intended for biologically female patients.
Ms Atkins told Sky News: “We want to ensure that biological sex is respected and that if someone wants, for example, to have an intimate examination by a person of the same biological sex, then they can make that request and it is dealt with appropriately, and with respect and recognising that person’s right to privacy and dignity and safety.”
She said in a statement: “We have always been clear that sex matters and our services should respect that.
“By putting this in the NHS Constitution we’re highlighting the importance of balancing the rights and needs of all patients to make a healthcare system that is faster, simpler and fairer for all.”
Maya Forstater, chief executive of Sex Matters, a human rights charity that campaigns for clarity on sex in law, policy and language, said: “Victoria Atkins explicitly referring to biological sex is very significant.
“It will benefit anyone who needs same-sex intimate care in the NHS in England, or who may do so in the future.
“We can expect an outraged response from trans rights activists, but this is simply a return to common sense, and an overdue recognition that women’s wellbeing and safety matter.”
Shadow health secretary Wes Streeting said “rights on paper are worthless unless they are delivered in practice”.
He added: “The NHS Constitution already pledges that no patient will have to share an overnight ward with patients of the opposite sex, but that is not the case for too many patients.
“Labour supports single-sex wards and will provide the staff, investment and reform the NHS needs to make sure every patient can be cared for safely.”
Professor Nicola Ranger, chief nursing officer and deputy chief executive of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN), said: “Trans and non-binary patients are deserving of high-quality care like any other patient and changes to health policy should be done with them, not unto them.”
Dr Emma Runswick, deputy chairwoman of the British Medical Association (BMA) council, warned some changes “run the risk of causing more harm than good – with the potential to incite further discrimination, harassment and ostracisation of an already marginalised group”.
“If these proposed changes come into effect, transgender and non-binary patients will potentially find their access to vital NHS services limited,” she added.
The NHS Constitution outlines the rights of patients and staff and is updated every 10 years.
Other proposed changes, which are subject to an eight-week consultation, include committing to providing families with a second opinion when a patient’s condition is deteriorating.
The rollout of the escalation process, also known as Martha’s Rule, started earlier this month and follows the death of 13-year-old Martha Mills in 2021.
She developed sepsis after suffering a pancreatic injury following a fall from her bike.
Martha’s parents, Merope Mills and Paul Laity, raised concerns about their daughter’s health a number of times but these were brushed aside.
A coroner ruled she would most likely have survived if doctors had identified the warning signs of her rapidly deteriorating condition and transferred her to intensive care earlier.
The new constitution will also reinforce the health service’s commitment to unpaid carers and will aim to reduce inequalities in access among different groups.

A headline like this would have been unthinkable, or an element of some absurdist comedy, ten years ago. Now that's the world we live in.
That sex is actually real, and "sex" means "biological sex" (as if there's any other kind) is "HUGE news" shows how far society has fallen.
Trans and "nonbinary" people are still male or female. Their access is exactly the same as for any other male or female person. How you "identify" doesn't change the reality of your biology. Pretending otherwise is idiotic. (And don't we keep hearing that "gender" and sex are separate?)
