Oh hey y’all. “Happy” 7 days of writing. I haven’t updated because it’s been an absolute STRUGGLE but I’ve actually kept up with my word count! Currently I’m at 10,000 but I haven’t written yet today so it should be 11,666 by tonight.

I hope everyone is doing okay! In light of new developments I’m reposting resources for those who are scared and in distress after this news.

what a lovely day i bet everything on the nanowrimo forums has been resolved and there's no wild new information that's going to make me hate the staff even more...

Finished NaNoWriMo!

It’s my first year doing NaNoWriMo, and I’m busy with school and stuff, so my goal was only 10k words, but I reached it!

Since I finished early, I’m aiming for 11,000 by the end of the month and to write everyday.

After recovering from the party at a yummy brunch, I got Yssaia's resident ecologist, Jay, in to record voicelines for their natural philosopher character, Riarian. Riarian is gonna play an important role in my upcoming creature mockumentary this December! Then we discussed future plans of Yssaia and aahhhhh😍😍😍 I'm so excited. My upcoing 27th year of life is possibly looking bright as long as the world doesn't collapse around me!

Speaking of Yssaia... we wrote a really good amount today! I did my little indoor walk first and then wrote out Kivihk's declaration of war. I can't decide if the scene needs more ZEST or not but I reached DEEP into my well of "Things Cult Leaders" say and put it straight into Kivihk's mouth. I think it's beautiful!

I want you to hear this guy trying to literally enslave all of humanity and still go "But hey: he has a point..." 💜

Happy December: Writing Diary #1

December 1, 2023

My chaotic and nontraditional version of NaNoWriMo was wonderful, and helped me get a fantastic start to my story. It is now December and I no longer feel like I am being forced by anyone but myself to write, and while I thought that might be a bad thing due to my lack of self-motivation, I do feel much better.

The problem lies in the fact that I am now experiencing the most true aspect of being a writer. It isn’t a gimmick or something to pass the time anymore. The story is now much realer than it was this time last month. The characters are now people in my head who are demanding this story be told. I have gotten to the point where I feel like I am no longer writing, rather I am transcribing the experiences of these characters in my head. I’ve gotten down all the bones, the outlines. I understand what happens and who these people are. I’ve done all the fun bit of thinking that up, and it is now too real to ever let go. Now, I am just to tell it.

This, frankly, fucking sucks. It’s wonderful and beautiful and magical or whatever but it sucks. I know what happens. The problem is that no one else does and I have to change that. It’s an awful drag. Needing to finish the first draft is the worst thing that could happen to anybody. It’s so terribly fun to get a start writing, to begin making it real and seeing your story come to life. It’s so lovely and satisfying to clean up and rewrite the first draft into the best story you could make. 

It is sick and awful hell to finish your first draft. But it must be done.

NaNoWriMo 2023

It's December! First Nano down, and I'm about 1/3 of the way through this book with a very temporary working title.

Things I learned from this Nano:

Writing is lovely

You can push through the bits that are hard, if you don't like them, there's always a draft two - I realized pretty quickly I should have organized my outline into chapter arcs and that bothered me, but it's definitely a draft 2 problem, that sorta thing!

Notes are nice - I had two docs up at all times in Scrivener while writing, one where I'm writing, the other where I have location, character, outline, or world notes

It's important to find time for yourself, the reason I have such a drastic turn is because I had a fun lil breakdown from doing too much, but am happy with what I got done

Don't expect to get any writing done if you're traveling O.o I went to visit my sis for the holiday and barely had time or focus to write

I hope everyone else also learned things and felt good about what they did, regardless of how many words <3

You were definitely well aware of what it meant twenty minutes ago, just like you were so very aware of what 'dirigible' meant when mother and father took us to the fair.“ ”I was seven! How was I supposed to know it was an airship and not a type of funny vegetable?”

Notes: WE'RE HALFWAY THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!! (more than half, actually, but thats not the point) (on a complete other note, this chapter is like 1k words longer than all my other chapters but I don't care). In other accomplishments, I have found a way to reference Amelia Earhart (my childhood hyperfixation, SHE'S SO FUCKING COOL (this hyperfixation is threatening to resurface at any moment, and i'm not upset about it at all) & when she was 7 Alex thought a dirigible was a type of vegetable. I don't know why. It's funny?

NaNoWriMo Day 7

I got to 25,000 today! It was a huge pull, and a slog, but 10 writing sprints and 1.5 hours later, I'm there. I'm honestly pretty much conked out for the day right now, but it was a good day of writing- got to complete lots of scenes that I've been working on and also work on character development for a few of their side characters who I wanted to develop into more complex characters. All In all, it was a good day of writing that went pretty well.

Check-in for November 1st, 2023

After a 2.4k word writing session spread across about two hours, The Present is a Gift has reached 14k words!

I thought that I would barely be able to reach the 15k word count across the entirety of November, but all my prepping combined with some improved writing habits has given me hope for reaching the actual word count goal of 50,000 words in 30 days. I've been attempting this challenge for 7 years and have never once come remotely close to this amount of words written in November. Who knew that Pokémon Mystery Dungeon fanfiction would be what got me out of my writerly shell?

I spent 5 hours on a single assignment today and had to phone a friend to come even remotely close to completing it correctly. Python loops hate me and honestly, the feeling is mutual. Why is a "for" loop chill with having a placeholder variable in it but no other functions in Python feel the same??? I'm so tired. My brain cannot brain any longer.

I also tested out a ring light tripod I got ages ago and took some clips to see how it'd look if I ended up recording my actual face for YouTube videos. I think it would be fun to record some process logs for working on my AU, developing my visual novel idea, maybe some silly skits, etc, etc.

I also also threw out my back recording those tripod clips. Do not ask me how I managed to do it; I have the spine of an old woman. It's embarrassing.

(I managed to do it by spinning into the shot and tripping on a yoga mat. It was honestly pretty impressive.)

With that, I'm going to retire and try to scoop my brain matter into a vaguely cerebral shape after all of that homework. I plan to get some more writing and homework done, and hopefully I'll have some creative energy leftover to make some memes or comics or something. I miss the PMD2: Text Post Boogaloo series. I would love to make some more content for it. If you guys have any ideas of series to superimpose PMD character faces over screenshots of or silly memes to inspire new installments, let me know!

Nanowrimo day 2!

The Baron has his first girl dinner! Ah, what a wonderous occasion! For context, when Nadya uses the Baron persona, she goes by he/him pronouns :)

It would be best if he were to attract as little attention as possible, but he still wanted the attention of a special lady – there just had to be one to notice him. One such woman obediently fell into his lap after a little while; a woman around his age, in a pink dress, long, black curls done up with a beautiful hairpiece. She approached curiously, coming to a stop in front of him. “A new face? I don’t think I’ve seen you before.” She smiled. “Pleased to make your acquaintance, sir…?” “Now now.” He was surprised at how different his voice sounded; what was this feeling? “This is a masked banquet. Naming myself would ruin the purpose, would it not?” She was enamored with him, receptive to his advances almost immediately. She did not attempt to move away when he put his arm around her waist, pulling her in a little closer. “If you wish to have something to call me by…” He paused for a moment, speaking the first thing that came to mind. “I suppose you can call me “the Baron”.” “I see… Baron.” She stared up at him with bright eyes. “You do fit the bill. Say… why don’t we go talk somewhere more… private?” “You are an interesting woman.” He muttered, placing his hand under her chin. “To think that you would be the one to suggest such a thing.” “I see something I want. I take my chances. That’s all.” She smiled, and the two of them retreated from the busy room to a quieter, darker place. It was the first time since that night he had indulged in pleasures with other women; she was warm, a stark contrast to his cold hands. Still, she did not seem to mind as they locked lips, fading ever further into the darkness. He was not sure how, but he instinctively knew not to aim for that same spot on the neck where his marks were proudly displayed. She curled up against him, lost in the sensations, and that’s when he took his chance, baring his fangs and biting into the corner between her neck and shoulder. She gasped, but instead of pulling away, her hands pressed against the back of his head, urging him, begging him to go on. No words were exchanged between them, and he could freely let his mind wander to the woman of his dreams as he indulged himself in her body; it came to him all too easily, but it was what he had to do. It took a saint’s patience for him to stop before it got too far, detaching his teeth from her skin; the marks were beautiful, divine. He wanted to make more, but knew that he shouldn’t feast too much, lest it affect her well-being. She was quick to recover, finding his cheeks with her hands and pulling him in for a kiss; there was no need to rush, after all. Plenty of time for them to get… comfortable. The darkness cloaked them, any sounds muffled by the palpable shadow engulfing them.

Woohoo! After being behind by about 10k last week, I really didn't think I'd get here, but this happened tonight.

CalmWriMo Day 19-20

Friends, I am cuddled in my own bed again. The 19th was Little Tokyo day + the Genshin Impact Concert and then I traveled all day on the 20th -- which means I did get to sit in a cafe for a bit and write. I really prioritized having a good time over productivity and I'm proud of that. That's self-care if I've ever heard of it -- having a good time on your vacation 🥰 I'll be updating my journal tomorrow but I have been able to feel time passing better.

All-in-all, I wrote around 3.1k while on traveling. Well, technically I WROTE about 4.8k but only 3.1k of those words stayed on the page -- which means I am very finicky about my word choice. But I'm OK with that, I think -- I think my writing is stronger for it and I'm usually pretty confident in my output.

It was a lovely trip ☺️☺️☺️

She chuckled and kissed my forehead. Her lips always were a little cooler than they should have been on account of the Ysse crystals that grew in her throat. And Saravanya’s lips ran hot, on account of the bloodmagic burning in her veins. Both were familiar comforts now.

Ne: Saravanya will figure it out.

Tomorrow is cleaning day! 😍 And that's kinda hype. I'm actually really excited to sleep in and then just relax and clean and vibe to YouTube and think about writing and video editing... ☺️☺️☺️Like I promised myself, my relationship is healing💜

NaNoWriMo Day 19

I honestly have no idea how many words I wrote today because I spent half the day poking at the last three chapters because plot things and no I can’t just subtract today’s total (129,779) from yesterday’s because I cut two giant chunks so it would be way off. But! The Plot has been ironed out! I was looking at my plot synopsis and I am always shocked at how bad I am at following them it’s def time to reorganize my notes and update my encyclopedia but maybe after NaNo is done tho
