NANA Analysis: the bathtub theory, love and self-destruction.
TW: suicide and self-harm
āš ļøSPOILERS
Tumblr media
This isnā€™t a topic widely discussed due to the abrupt hiatus of NANA, but our dear Ai Yazawa loves to work with foreshadowing, and we have enough clues to consider that something really bad happened between the two timelines.
Nana is a realistic work, and we can see representations of self-destructive behaviors in many characters. When it comes to Nana Osaki and Nana Komatsu (whom I'll refer to as Hachi to make things easier), we can see these behaviors manifesting with anyone they love.
Due to her abandonment trauma, when Nana feels love for someone this can bring out her worst side: possessiveness, selfishness, jealousy, and envy. Ren is Nanaā€™s first love, and through him, she forms a special connection with music and be singer becomes her dream. However, Nana considers her dreams and her pride more important than anything else.
For Hachi, love is more idealizedā€¦ she follows the ā€˜formulaā€™: fall in love > date > get married > have children > happily ever after. But Hachi doesn't just idealize love, she also idealizesĀ whoĀ she loves.
So I think that ā€˜loveā€™ becomes a self-destructive emotion for both of them. When Nana feels abandoned by those she loves (Ren andĀ HachiĀ < mainly this woman), she experiences mental gaps (forgets about what she done and what happen) and also hyperventilates. Nana briefly talks about her mental gaps when she remembers the memory of her mother left her behind in the snow (while wearing red heels, which Nana realizes may not be a reliable memory). Also, she and Ren have this toxic relationship with no perspective for future, which hurts them a lot.
Thenā€¦ we have Hachi, who has an insatiable desire to be loved, and this becomes ā€˜the compassā€™ for all the bad decisions sheā€™ll make throughout her journey. Groomed by an older man in high school, moves to Tokyo with many dreams and ends up getting cheated on, and meets Takumi. Well, you already know the rest. The problem with this Nana isnā€™t particularly in how she loves people; she can be selfish at times, but her love is genuine, sheā€™s not the priority. Like Nana Osaki says sheā€™s a ā€˜puppyā€™: you kick the puppy, it gets hurt, but then the puppy always comes back to you. Hachiā€™s problem is that she has no self-love, pride won't be a problem, she's able to see herself as the villain in any situation (even with Takumi).
The relationships between Ren and Nana, and Hachi and Takumi are toxic in different ways. We can see both Nanas struggling with the frustration of these relationships. Nana hurts her pride so she can have some control over Ren, but it doesnā€™t really work.
Nana: [You can't make people do what you want. Even if you cry... or shout... or cling to them.]
And even though Hachi tries to follow this 'formula', she canā€™t fill the emptiness inside her, living a life full of regrets.
Hachi: [It's like the jealousy of a woman who wasn't capable of being happy... Always acting on stage, alone, running in circles no matter what she did.]
Letā€™s get to the point: What happened in the bathtub? Iā€™ll start with the numerous foreshadowings about self-harm and drowning in water. I've lost count of how many times Junko and Kyosuke talked about this:
Kyosuke: [Thatā€™s scaryā€¦ she might even slit her wrists, who knows.]
Junko: [Girl... I was knocking so hard for so long. I was scared youā€™d slit your wrists with a razor blade! (I could see it all... Blood spurting out...)]
and there's more and more... let's skip
So for some reason, everyone is convinced that Hachi is going to cut her wrists because of a heartbreak, which never even crosses her mind lol, as we can see she had other plans:
Hachi: [That night... If Nana hadnā€™t been there for me... I would have thrown myself into the Tama river. Iā€™m sure of that.]
The irony isā€¦ when it comes to representations of drowning or anything related to water, Nana is the focus. We have this scene in manga, and in anime opening, we see a lot of scenes of Nana drowning.
Tumblr media
The bathtub is more symbolic between Nana and Ren; Ren was constantly using the bathtub to ā€˜drown in drugsā€™, Reira and Takumi seem aware of this. But again, the bathtub is also extremely symbolic between Nana and Hachi, we can see some intimate moments there. And of course, Ai Yazawa wants to make us freak out. When we are convinced that Nana is the one who got hurt in the bathtub, it relates back to Hachi when she talks to Miu:
Tumblr media
Later in the ā€˜presentā€™ timeline, weā€™ll also see Nobu worried about Hachi while se prepares a bath for him, but Hachi is someone who could be greatly affected by a possible suicide attempt from Nana. Nana also has that death pact with Ren, in last chapters, we can see that her situation itā€™s not good, sheā€™s still clinging to love to live, in this case, holding on to Hachi. To be fair, Hachi is also in a terrible situation, sheā€™s pregnant; her hormones are all over the place, and the postpartum itā€™s cruel.
But I donā€™t think Ai Yazawa would repeat whatā€™s happened with Shinā€™s mother, although Hachi is very close to that role now; after all, no matter what others think,Ā ā€˜Iā€™m his motherā€™. The situation of Shinā€™s mother itā€™s a parallel to Hachiā€™s pregnancy at certain points, especially since Yazawa wants to keep the mystery of the babyā€™s paternity.
Tumblr media
Anyway, Nana, all we know is that she disappeared and everyone thought she was dead, with rumors likeĀ ā€˜She died at seaā€™.
Nana: [Any place was fine with meā€¦ As long as I could see the sea. I can die whenever I wantā€¦ As long as I know the seaā€™s nearby. I came hereā€¦ Looking for a place to die. So whyā€¦ am I still here?]
The only doubt in my mind is that the women of the Osaki family are naturally runaways. Nana could have simply run away from the start. But sheā€™s still the strong candidate, since she mentions that Hachi saved her life and since BOTH are named Nana, I wouldnā€™t be surprised if Hachi was just a misleading clue all this time. Junko and Kyosuke calls Hachi for her name (Nana), but maybe Iā€™m just overthinking.
Is getting long, so to wrap up, I want to talk about the meaning of the nameĀ Ren (č“®), especially since we have two characters named Ren in Nana. The lotus flower in Buddhism represents the belief in samsara, the cycle of birth, death, and rebirth. Also, is often seen as a symbol of purity because it rises and blooms beautifully above the muddy waters from which it grows. This imagery represents the idea of achieving spiritual purity despite difficult circumstances.
Nanaā€™s Ren is dead, and given everything he represented to her, itā€™s entirely understandable that she feels lost. On the other hand, Hachiā€™s Ren has yet to be born, and itā€™ll likely be her greatest point of development. Although Nana seems strong enough to overcome anything, sheā€™s not, while Hachi, who is seen as fragile, manages to persist through difficulties. Itā€™s as if their roles initially invert: Hachi gains strength, and Nana weakens (I'm just making a comparison with the beginning of the story). Nana and Hachi continue to live with the hope thatĀ ā€˜Life is about getting knocked down over and over, but still getting up each time. If you keep getting up, you winā€™. This is something Nana learned from Ren and taught to Hachi. Itā€™s simply beautiful how, despite everything, their love for each other is what keeps them strong, even when apart; love has become a form of healing for Nana and Hachi.
I've wanted to write about this for a while, now that Iā€™ve read NANA 777 times, I can talk about it with more confidence hehe.

How old is AFO and OFA
[Mile long post incoming]
Long story short this is a theory/headcanon/thought exercise to keep my brain busy while I'm bored at work. I wanted to figure out a more precise estimate for how old All for One is since his birth is essentially the earliest moment of quirk society emerging and so his life spans the entire timeline of this story which I find interesting. And then the whole thing spiraled into a full One for All timeline of headcanons, so enjoy that.
To start though, it would be easy to guess that he's 120-and-some-change because of Garaki. Mic claimed Garaki would be about 120 (and we're just assuming he's exactly right instead of guesstimating for the sake of things) and Garaki confirms that his quirk allows him to live longer than a regular human lifespan, and when they met, All for One was given a copy so he could also live absurdly long. But I want to try a more exact method to ensure that his generations of adversaries could have actually reasonably worked time-wise. So, we can use Garaki's age to check our work but, reasonably, All for One should fall somewhere in the 120-150 range.
Right off the bat, we do have a frustrating lack of information regarding ages and time passing but there are a few things we can establish. Firstly, we know AFO and Yoichi are twins, so when determining age we can start both AFO individually and the OFA users as a collective at the same point. Secondly, Yoichi and AFO are shown to be the first people to have developed a quirk in the way we see in current time. There were vaguely quirk like mutations in people before that (like with their mother) but quirks as we know them are presented to us as originating from these two twins.
I bring this up because while Yoichi, Kudou, and Bruce are all in the same vague realm of "adult" at the same point in time, Yoichi has to be the oldest of the three. Even if it is only by a few years, Yoichi and AFO preceed any characters with a quirk. And while we're on the topic of Kudou and Bruce, we can safely say Kudou is the older one of the duo. He's confirmed to be the head leader of the resistance group against AFO and Bruce is second in command, so, frankly it would just be bizarre if Bruce was older in age but lower in rank. That being said, I don't think their difference in age would be significant.
Exact ages is where things get vague and headcanon-y. There isn't really any hard evidence I can point to other than "that sounds about right" and "I guess they look about that age" in an animation style that is notorious for just slapping a, borderline arbitrary, age on any design regardless of logic. So, rather than trying to justify it too much, my personal choices for their ages are, at Yoichi's time of death, Yoichi is 39, Kudou is 30, and Bruce is 27. At this point in the story AFO has been amassing power and followers for a while now, long enough for a resistance force to rise up against him but not long enough that he's considered it more than a nuisance for other people to handle until now. Late thirties seems pretty reasonable, possibly a bit too young but this man has also been killing people since he was 0.
For Kudou and Bruce I aimed for the older side of military age. Old enough to lead an operation like this but still young enough that AFO's rise to power was during most of their lifetime. Also, there's the issue of the age ceiling. Thanks to Shinomori (who I will get to), users 2 through 7 cannot have lived to be over 40 years old. That is a hard, non-negotiable cap on their ages as the strain of OFA alongside a different biological quirk drastically shortens a person's natural lifespan.
Anyway, back to AFO's age. If Yoichi dies at 39, this would also make him 39 (duh) and given the climate of the world at this point, I think Kudou lasted the shortest with OFA, personally. He receives the quirk immediately upon Yoichi's death after getting his blood in his mouth (Yoichi probably thought of him in his dying moments aww) and likely a week or two later is when Kudou and Bruce find out about it. The chapter frames Kudou finding out Yoichi carried on into him at the same time AFO has the same epiphany so, generously?? I give Kudou a year. Max.
All for One is now filled with seething hatred for Kudou specifically after Yoichi's death, so everything has been put on the back burner so he can both take the quirk from Kudou to get his "possession" back (ew) and to kill Kudou along with everyone he ever knew, loved, spoke to, looked at, or had any genetic lineage with. Even for a guy this powerful that is going to take a bit. A year gives AFO time to find information and strike down the entire resistance and time for Kudou and Bruce to think of a counter strategy and gain an understanding for how OFA works. So, Bruce takes the quirk at 28, Kudou dies at 31, and All for One kills him at 40.
After Kudou's death is a very big blank spot where I need to unfortunately just blindly headcanon again, so bare with me. Kudou and Bruce's plan was for Bruce to take the quirk and slip away from the massacre of the resistance to build OFA stronger and come back to finish the job. I believe that Bruce met Shinomori while he was lying low. Judging by the one image we have of Bruce confronting AFO, he did seemingly attempt to rally people together to defeat him, which would have taken a bit longer than when Kudou was leading an established resistance, since he didn't already have people under him. But he clearly thought to pass the quirk on again as a backup in case he lost, which is why he chose Shinomori to take it. With time needed to plan this attack and also get AFO's sights off him, I'd give it about five years between AFO's fight with Kudou and his fight with Bruce. It's estabished that Shinomori takes the quirk at 22 so, Bruce dies at 33, and All for One kills him at 45.
Shinomori is actually a very clear-cut piece of the timeline. He takes the quirk at 22 and dies at 40, having passed the quirk to the next user shortly before that because he realized his health was rapidly declining. He keeps the quirk for a total of 18 years, making All for One 63 at the time of his death. Judging by how the flashback panels are structured, AFO has received Garaki's quirk by this point.
Also, we have reached the point where every following user of OFA has been a professional hero, so I think it's safe to assume that each link in the chain met through either being colleagues or possibly through a sidekick internship. I doubt All Might was the first one to think of scouting hero students for successors. I'm going to assume that users 5, 6, and 7 were somewhere in the 16-24 range when they received the quirk for that very reason.
Moving on though, Banjo is the next user. I do think Banjo knew Shinomori for a somewhat significant time before his death. Banjo clearly knows about Shinomori's reclusive nature in some level of detail based on how they interact as vestiges and while it is possible for the already deceased OFA users to peer into the thoughts and memories of the current user, it doesn't appear to be the same retroactively, unless it's something the vestiges want to show the current user. All this to say I came to conclusion that Banjo was already likely a pro hero when he recieved the quirk from Shinomori. Shinomori realized what was happening and reached out to one of the few trusted friends he had to carry on the burden because he knew he could handle it. So I'm going to peg Banjo at being about 22 when he took the power as well. Old enough to be experienced as a pro with enough time to have actually met Shinomori before he died. Just like all the others, Banjo died to All for One after being trapped under rubble and gave the power to En just before he croaked. Given his bordering-on-middle-aged appearance, I'm going to put forward Banjo dying at 37 and All for One killing him at 78.
En also has very little information on him but since we only have speculation to work with, might as well stop apologizing for it. En appears to be significantly younger than Banjo, so I suspect he was an internship student to Banjo while he was a pro. Putting En at 17 when he recieved the power is both enough time for them to meet and get to know each other with En having to take the mantle from him sooner than either of them anticipated. En's appearance is still quite young, but he was confirmed to be a pro hero for a time, so he didn't have as short a run as Kudou. Nana was also already some level of hero (whether student or pro is unclear) at the time she recieved the power. Rather than mentor and student I believe they were fledgling colleagues, since Gran Torino fills the role as Nana's older pro mentor. All of this makes me vaguely place En dying at 25 and All for One killing him at 86.
I already mentioned Nana potentially being colleagues with En as their way of meeting. I still think she may have been younger than him at the time but not significantly so. En is another user that is shown passing on the power while at death's door and the following panel that shows Nana accepting it doesn't make her look significantly younger than how she does in any given scene in the series. So I don't think she was a child when she took the quirk but I'm going to set my guess at 20. But! While Nana is another character without a listed age, surprisingly, we can figure it out a good guess with actual evidence this time. Her son Kotaro, grandson Tomura, and pupil All Might all have stated, confirmed ages that we can use to make a feasible timeline for Nana.
Currently, All Might is 57 and Tomura is 21, meaning All Might was 36 when Tomura was born. Kotaro was killed at 32, when Tomura was 5, making him 27 when Yagi was 36. Nana died when All Might was in his last year at UA, making him 18, meaning Kotaro was 9 at the time. Nana gave All Might OFA when he was in middle school, judging by his uniform, so we'll assume he was 14 and Kotaro was 5. When Nana and All Might first meet, Nana states that her family is all dead, in a cold and distant manner. But that wouldn't be true if Kotaro was still in her life. This would mean that she met Yagi after the death of her husband and after Kotaro was sent away. And I'd wager to bet it was very soon after. Assuming Nana gave birth to Kotaro at around 25 years old (perfectly reasonable) then she would have passed the quirk to All Might at 30 and died at 34 after having the quirk for 14 years, making All for One 100 at the time of the transfer. Gran Torino also states that AFO is over 100 at the time Nana died, which makes this whole thing perfectly plausible.
From here things get a lot less speculative. All Might is listed as 55 at the beginning of the manga, adding on Izuku's last year of middle school and first year of high school puts him at 57. We already established he received the quirk at 14, meaning he held the power for 42 years + 1 year quirkless before All for One was finally killed at the grand age of 143. Which would mean that quirks have existed for just shy of one and a half centuries now and we fit comfortably inside our estimate goal!
Now, I'm one of those bad at math gays so if you have other thoughts on this, feel free to speak up. And you're more than welcome to adopt these age headcanons if you want. Later.

While I do have my complaints with the most recent chapter, I do want to give praise where it's do.
Tumblr media
Now, I would joke that Sir Nighteye is nagging Toshinori from beyond the grave, but I do like what is being done here. Nana and Sir Nighteye are two of the people closest to Toshinori. They are also the people that Toshinori feels the most guilt over. He wasn't ready to fight All For One when he attacked, leading to Nana dying in a fight she couldn't hope to win. He pushed away Sir Nighteye for years, barely having a chance to reconcile and only doing so moments before Mirai's death. I've always believed that a lot of what All Might has been doing in the post-war era is coming to peace with his perceived failings. So far, he's tried to come to terms with his failings as a teacher and his inability to act as a hero.
As this is preceded by Stain's message of living on, I believe that this is meant to punctuate the whole journey Toshinori is going on by having him face his regrets. This could tie into him defying his fated death, having a near-death experience, and facing past loved ones. Not only is he fighting against his guilt, but he is not giving in to his fate as well. He's met by the ghosts of his past, with Nana cheering him on with her optimism while Sir Nighteye tells him that there isn't any point in fighting anymore, but Toshinori doesn't deny either. Yeah, he is damaged beyond belief, and his odds are bad, but he will keep on going. So him getting up off the ground and proclaiming he isn't dead and will still live and fight as a hero works as a really strong moment for the character.

Explain the Timeline
So my Hero academia. You know where 2 century ago Quirks Emerged and quickly became a dominant trait in human society. And I started thinking. How long did each holder of one for all hold onto the Quirk.
I started doing some calculations and we were short.
Like half a century Short. About 50 years unaccounted for.
Explain your calculations.
Let's gather what we know in approximately the order it's revealed in.
A baby of light was born 200 years ago
One for All is Yagi Toshinori's (All Might) Quirk there are Seven people before him that have held it.
Midoriya Izuku is the Ninth.
It has Stockpiled so much energy that one's body must be trained to hold it.
Yagi Toshinori has been an active hero in Japan for over 15 years (middle school midoriya) as The All Might's Japan debut was already Old News when Izuku was rewatching it.
Yuui Academia (UA ) is Toshinori's highschool. Also worked in American.
Yagi Toshinori master died in combat.
All for one is as old as the dawn of Quirks (aka 200)
Yoichi All for One's brother is that age. Thus the QUIRK is that age
Yagi Toshinori has been Number one almost his whole Japan career. He is close to 50 Years old
Shinomori Hikage died of old age at 40 he received it when he was 22. Cultivating it for 18 years. Having it for the longest time. Before All Might
All other users died before then.
Shimura Nana met yagi Toshinori while he was in Middle School.
Yoichi was rescued by Kudo and Bruce from a Vault.
Yoichi died by All for one's hand while fleeing with Kudo and Bruce.
Kudo was Targeted with the belief that Kudo Killed Yoichi.
Now we have some information let's do some math. There is some Head canon in here.
Let's say Yoichi died when he was 35
Kudo received noticing a small power holding onto it for close to 10 years as he's a wanted man.
Kudo and Bruce experimented with OFA during the time. Thus the time frame where he then Dies fighting AFO. The Hot potato has been passed.
Bruce figures he is probably also wanted so giving him 10 years is Generous
He finds and teaches Hikage about the Quirk before passing it and facing AFO.
Hikage held onto it for 18 years. He started to rapidly age gifting the Quirk to Banjo.
Banjo becomes or is a Hero he can hold his own so 15 years picking up the wet cat that was En training and giving the quirk to him before cracking the foundation that was AFO's power.
En holds onto it for 10 years as AFO knows the holder. Hero society has a foundation and is gaining traction.
Nana is selected. gaining a husband and kid while holding OFA . She meets Toshinori(11ā€“15) Training him for the Quirk before her death. About 10 years
Toshinori has it for almost 40 years
Now if you add that all together
35+10+10+18+15+10+10+ 40 =143
That's me being generous and on the reasonable.
So they are either as saying we are in the second century of Quirks coming to being. Or I'm underestimated.
But I figured that I would inform you of what I think is an accurate estimate of how long each holder before Izuku would need to hold OFA for everything to be true
Yoichi is 56 when he dies.
Kudo holds OFA for 16 years
Bruce holds OFA for 16 years
Hikage hold OFA for 18 years
Banjo holds OFA for 16 years
En hold OFA for 16 years
Nana holds OFA for 16 years
Toshinori holds OFA for 46 years
Voila 200 years.
Yeah it's inaccurate with how the quirk works in the latter years. Another way would be if All for one used a youth quirk on Yoichi not giving him it. But using it on Yoichi. He's obsessed with keeping Yoichi so he could be anywhere between the 35 to 106 years old. It really shows you how much we know about Yoichi and All for One's relationship. And the beginning of the era of Quirks.

run back all the theories
momo yaoyorozu is hana shimura grown up, and you genuinely cannot tell me otherwise. the resemblance between not only her, but nana shimura too is telling. the legal name change could work due to her being a victim, an orphan, and possibly hunted by afo for surviving/escaping. her set of hands could've been a fabrication to usher tenko shimura into being convinced he simply blacked out when he killed specifically her due to their strong sibling bond. it's added poetry too, her quirk being creation whilst her brother being destruction. heavy angst of the realization dawning on her would take 50 years off my life, at minimum. knowing that her entire life is a lie. her parents aren't hers. she doesn't actually have yaoyorozu blood within her. she is a fraud. exploring (in depth) her grappling these internally conflicting emotions would make me clutch my pearls. figuring out that the villain you are deathly afraid of is your brother. except, he dies. there is no redemption or reconnection (touya). there is no coming back. he is a constant reminder of what you have lost. it hurts. after all, he is still your brother. and now you've lost him, too.

A bit of a toss to the wind, but what if Shinomori is related to Bruce? Probably not gonna happen but
Tumblr media
They have:
Straight nose bridges
Thick necks
Same ears
Spiky yet fluffy hair that's still somewhat cooperative
Both their eyes are flat on top with small/single eyelids, and a bit of a tired or intimidating feel about their eyes
Small pupils (sanpaku eyes)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mouths that naturally frown the same way
Similar chins and jawlines
Long legs
Both are weirdly, VERY tall, and intimidating on first impressions
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both are cautious individuals that rebel against society in their own way: Bruce by fighting directly, and Shinomori by ducking out
The fact Bruce knew where to find him and gave the Factor to some guy he met in the forest, and being as level-headed as Bruce, there had to be a deeper reason for his choice (unless it's just desperation and Shinomori's the most level-headed existence after Bruce dealt with Kudo's experimenting) beyond simply "Shinomori's a good choice"
Because Bruce was not one of the "as they laid down to die, it was passed to an unfortunate soul" vestiges, he had time and passed it on his own terms. There's also some degree of trust when every user passes on the Factor, and Bruce had space to choose his next person.
Shinomori and Bruce are level-headed and self-sacrificial without thinking. (Technically this applies to a LOT of characters, but-)
Shinomori pushed everyone behind him and got snatched by AFO so no one would be stolen, even though he hid from the guy his whole life. No hesitation at all in this.
Tumblr media
Look at how there's multiple "whams", he didn't just push one person. Even Kudo's legs are blurred, his arms are raised, and he looks mid-air, despite being on his feet earlier. Like he was thrown back. Banjo and Nana's mouths are open in shock, and you can tell by their bodies' positions they weren't running (except maybe Bruce).
They all look like they were pushed. En got shoved in the middle of his back, and his blur even lines up with Shinomori's hand, Yoichi got thrown back, and Nana doesn't look like she was running, but that she was being tripped from Shinomori.
Banjo panicked and the first thing he did was yell the news to Midoriya. AFO surprised them, but Shinomori did too.
Like I mentioned in my [Shinomori is cute] post,
"His sense of self-preservation is probably heightened by the nature of his Quirk to keep him out of danger too."
And he still put everyone else before him. Even when he was caught, all he said was along the lines of "I leave the Ninth to you!".
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Bruce was willing to go against AFO in a closed space, back when AFO was at his peak and just killed Yoichi. He wasn't thinking either, he just took a stance. And Fa Jin was not as strong as we see Midoriya use it back then. Meanwhile, this is AFO at his strongest point.
Are both very "Do or Die". And both have died in the Do. (Protecting OFA, when alive and dead; passing it on, cultivating on their turns, giving up their Factors to damage AFO and protect OFA in their own ways [being taken, forceful transfer], etc)
Like Bruce, Shinomori communicates. He's eloquent, and explains a lot for Midoriya to understand about OFA's mechanics.
He explained how OFA couldn't be wielded by naturally Quirked people.
He explained his own life story to elaborate and add reasoning and consequence.
He introduced himself and asked Midoriya questions so he could participate and further his understanding about OFA.
When Midoriya was clearly hurt and tired in his running around alone, Shinomori calls him out with "Ninth, your injuries aren't fully healed yet". He remained and watched him go as Midoriya pushed them all away. And Shinomori could tell their Quirks were only giving Midoriya the power he needs to accomplish his goals. He didn't keep this knowledge from the other users, saying it immediately.
Though he's also a bit roundabout in communication like Bruce
"One For All cannot be wielded by a normal person." meaning normal, Quirked people
"This too, is destiny." *is immediately contrasted by Banjo saying it's timing*
"Do you know how I died?" *knows the answer is no. answers himself* "I died of old age."
"I'll get straight to the point." *has to correct himself before he starts to go on for too long*
Maybe just because they're both tall and have muscles, but. Shoulder blades and biceps. (Oh boy, two things most humans have)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If they're related, it just gives more reason to why Bruce can put up with Kudo; he's dealt with Shinomori and his weirdness

|| What if Afo wanted to have a quirk that didn't have the same weakness as his, he wanted to have an All For One that could steal quirks from distance, and what better way to do it than having an heir? ||
|| But to have an heir, he needed a woman with a quirk that could attract things to her, and that's where Inko comes in ||
|| Her quirk was just what Afo needed, and on top of that, she was manipulable, she was perfect for the plan, but then a problem came in to ruin everything: Hisashi Midoriya ||
|| Most likely by that time they would be married and happy, and just that, was a problem for Afo but when he realized that Hisashi worked in Koga Construction, something came to his mind. ||
|| Afo began to monitor Hisashi and learn his behaviors with people and especially with Inko, and one day, Afo summoned Hisashi to "build" something for him, and when Hisashi arrived... Afo killed him. ||
|| After getting rid of the body, Afo using the Quirk to change appearance, he changed his appearance and took on Hisashi's. (Evidence that Afo does have a Quirk like that in the photo ā†“) ||
Tumblr media
|| "Hisashi" returned home with his wife, and after a month or more time, he convinces her to have a child ||
|| And well, then Izuku was born ||
Tumblr media
|| It is more than obvious that the plan worked, since in the manga Izuku currently shows TOO many signs of having a quirk ||
Tumblr media
|| So the question with this theory is... What happened? Why didn't Afo steal Izuku's quirk? ||
|| And don't tell me that "Maybe his quirk was like Yoichi's and they couldn't tell it was really there" BECAUSE THEY KNEW. ||
Tumblr media
|| In this publication we are taught some human biology, and, in short, The Doctor Gairaki, lie, THIS BALD SON OF A BITCH LIED TO INKO AND IZUKU IN THEIR FUCKING FACE. ||
Tumblr media
|| But why? Why Afo ordered the Doctor to lie?? Why not steal the quirk and say that Izuku was quirkless??? ||
|| For this I bring two possible reasons: ||
1) Izuku's quirk CANNOT be stolen by Afo so he just compressed it and waited for Izuku to decide on his own to be a villain so he could tell him the truth later, and then make him his true successor and the Prince of Demons.
2) Afo ended up becoming fond of Izuku because his appearance and behavior is similar to that of Yoichi, but as we already know...
Tumblr media
someone died for using their quirk for the first time.. Soooo Izuku using his quirk didn't seem like a very good idea to Afo.
|| Either option can be possible, it could even be both! (I say this because Afo HAD MANY OPPORTUNITIES TO KILL IZUKU OR INKO AND NEVER DID ANYTHING TO THEM WHEN THAT PLUM BITCH KILLED NANA'S HUSBAND AND THE WHOLE FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF KUDOU-) ||
|| But well now we just have to wait to see how the Dad For One Theory will become canon ||
|| And remember! ||
Tumblr media
|| Have hope that the theory will become reality! If Horikoshi already did something like this with Tomura/Tenko and with Dabi/Touya then the theory is not so crazy that it cannot be canonized! ||
|| Horikoshi never disappoints the fandom!! ||

SPOILERS!! Don't read if you haven't finished the manga
A few months ago when I finished reading Nana, I went to the wiki to see if I could find any information about the birthday date of the children and only Satsuki had a date, that later I found out it was not an official information. This messed up a little the timeline I posted previously on my tumblr. So I made a new one!
Tumblr media
Before I didn't believe that Nana could be Satsuki's mother, but after reading a post on reddit it made a lot of sense to me! (here)
Briefly explaining, the timeline is divided in two possibilities, first timeline we have Ren and Satsuki being Hachi and Takumi's kid. After, we have Satsuki being Nana's and Ren.H and being born in the same year as Ren.l.
The last information we have about Nana and Ren.H engaging in sexual relationship it's a day before the first show of Blast's tour (that was cancelled after Shin's prison), after this Nana and Ren.H fight and stop talking to each other. Ren.H gives the name "Satsuki" as a gift to Hachi in the doll's festival, so we find out that Nana forgot to take her birth control pills last time. 'After a month Nana should know if she was pregnant, right?' Actually, not necessarily. When Hachi found out she was pregnant, she was already 6 weeks pregnant (I think it would have taken her longer to realize if it weren't for the morning sickness). A month has passed, Ren has died, and Nana is in mourning. It would be difficult for herself to notice anything or anyone around her. So it's possible that Satsuki is Nana's daughter.
(I really liked this theory!! Happy new year guys!)

Note
Sorahiko being Nana's husband realizing all his efforts to protect his son were in vain. His own absence leading to Kotaro clinging onto AFO as a pseudo father figure. Whole family getting damned as a result.

Can we talk about this? By 'this' I mean the changes in Buster between Sing 1 and Sing 2 because it simply MUST be addressed.
HIS FUR. In the first movie, it clearly looks rougher and more coarse than in the second one - where it looks soft and thick. Now, as a major animal nerd pursuing veterinary business, I can tell you that the healthier an animal('s diet) is, the softer and shinier their fur is! This is especially true for cats, dogs, horses, and rabbits. I'll bet that since Nana swooped in and saved the theater, Buster's had more money for decent food. Plus, Rosita is always making sure he eats and doesn't stay up all night chugging caffeine.
2. BEHAVIOR. Overall, our koala seems to be the same energetic fur-ball from the first movie, right? Wrong. Paying close attention, in the second movie he is MORE motivated, MORE confident, MORE determined, and we see so much COMPASSION in him in the second movie, especially in the Rosita scenes and I LOVE IT. We also see another side of him. Insecurity. He is easily discouraged by criticism (COMFORT DRAWER- COMFORT DRAWER-) but he is also great at bouncing right back up directly afterward! Love that!
3. MASS. Clearly, more mass has been added to his cheeks by the animators, and he seems to have gained a little weight. However, he is bound to lose some after the trauma in Redshore (if the animators actually take the trauma into account and show that, I will cry with joy. I love those kinds of details.)
4. ENERGY. He seems so much more energetic to me! Especially when he sees Ash - THEY ARE SO CUTE! They are best friends, and that dynamic is just so cute. That girl got a dad she never asked for ^^
5. STRESS. We see a totally different way of being stressed out than in the first movie. In the first movie, he kind of... panics? In the second, it changes. It's clear he has to really try, but he acts much more level-headed in the second movie (I'll bet Eddie helped him-) instead of panicking, he tries his best to just SOLVE the situation rather than stress out over it. I do wish the stress and anxiety that was so obviously difficult for him to handle had been addressed more - even if only by a few scraps of dialogue between him and a worried friend. The closest thing we see from the group in worry for him is some concerned expressions from Johnny and Meena when Crystal rubs Buster's head (which Buster is clearly uncomfortable with).
6. TRAUMA RESPONSE+. So, Buster has clearly been shaken up by Jimmy before Jimmy even tried to kill him the FIRST time. At Calloway's, when he wakes up and Clay growls at him, he flinches and looks afraid. Buster also displays deep discomfort at the presence of Jimmy, or even the mention of him. And when Jimmy tries to kill him at the show? He's clearly terrified and basically having a panic attack... yet he still tells everyone he's never been better. AND WHY WAS CRAWLY THE ONLY ONE WHO ASKED? AND WHY DID THEY ALL JUST BELIEVE HIM? THERE WAS STILL PANIC IN HIS VOICE.

So why do you think One For All never gave All Might any ominous messages through the vestige realm? They did it for Nana, but Toshi almost seemed to have no interactions with them.
I understand the confusion. The story makes it clear that the vestiges didn't make up the mindscape until Izuku got the power. However, we're told by All For One that he had vestiges in his dreams, but these are very weak and infrequent at best. When Nana had "One For All", it wasn't strong enough to properly manifest the vestiges. They are stored inside of "One For All", they just can't talk to the user until they reached Izuku. So when whichever previous user met with Nana in her dreams and said, "It's not time yet", it could be that she was barely getting to see him, let alone talk to him, before vanishing. This could have been them testing the waters to see if they could do it. Attempts could have been made to contact All Might in a similar way but were unsuccessful for any number of reasons. "One For All" not being strong enough, the finicky nature of trying to manifest like that, or even just All Might's horrific sleep schedule preventing it.
