“so what do you think, do you like the pink one more or red?” you ask sweetly. he stares you down, not saying a single word but making a soft head tilt, accompanied with a grunt at the frilly pink skirt you held in your hand. “think the pink suits you better, real pretty on you.” you immediately perk up, rambling on about how you agreed and really loved the pink one as well.
he can’t focus though, why in the living hell would he be able to focus as you stood, half naked in front of him, bouncing around and giddy about the new outfits you bought. you’d somehow convinced your boyfriend to let you have a mini fashion show as he flipped through the channels trying to find something decent to turn on.
he didn’t think you were serious even though this happened to be a common routine between the two of you. every single time you’d come home after spending thousands of dollars on new skirts, shoes, and bags begging him to let you show off your new additions to your wardrobe. and every single time you’d end up pressed against the couch, bed, counter, anything you were next to quite frankly, with your new piece scattered somewhere across the room as he fucked you to tears.
“goin around spending my hard earned money, just to look like some whore for other men, huh dove?” he knew that wasn’t true of course, always encouraging you to spend whatever you wanted on yourself. he loved to see you happy, this was just his excuse to have a little fun.
but every time you seemed to fall for it, whining in between thrusts about how, “no, only for you! promise it’s just for you daddy, only wanted to show yo-”. before you could get anything else out a hand snakes around, clamping over your mouth. “shh i know dove, just teasing you is all, skirt made you look so good just had to find a way to get you out of it, you know how i feel about ‘em.”

I rewatched Death Note focusing on the japanese 1st person pronouns the characters use (because I'm an otaku and I find it interesting). I'm not an expert, so I'm mainly going to point out everyone's pronouns and add a little analysis/opinion based on what I know or read online about their usage. Some characters probably won't get explanations because I have nothing to say. Also: since this is a piece of fiction the pronouns can tell us more about someone's personality. Also: I can only analyze the formality of the pronouns not the rest of the speech, because I don't know japanese that well!
Warning: like half of this post is about Higuchi because he's funny to me. And I included all of Yotsuba, who are pretty minor characters.
Kira Task Force:
Light Yagami Starting with Light as the main character, his pronoun of choice is 僕 (ぼく/boku). Boku is typically used by boys and young men. It's considered polite and humble. If I'm not mistaken only 2 other characters in Death Note use boku (Matsuda and Hatori from Yotsuba). It's a fitting pronoun for the perfect student and son, Light Yagami. It also gives a funny contrast to his ego-driven Kira speeches.
There is a couple of situations when Light uses 私 (わたし/watashi) (because it's gender neutral, and more... neutral in general). It's when he acts as L or Kira on the phone with someone, so in situations where he's trying to hide his identity.
L L uses 私 (わたし/watashi). It's gender neutral and usually used by men in formal settings. L comes accross as wanting to sound polite (he always uses honorifics for people, even correcting himself one time when he forgets to do so with Matsuda).
Tumblr media
He yells out "Matsuda", but then corrects it to "Matsuda-san". He also calls Light "Light-kun" or "Yagami-kun". It's a funny contrast that he cares about this, because otherwise he isn't very polite (especially to Matsuda).
In the anime (sadly I don't think he uses any pronouns in that scene in the manga) when he calls Matsuda (who's in Yotsuba building) and pretends to be his friend he uses 俺 (おれ/ore).
Matsuda As I said earlier, he uses the same pronouns as Light - boku. He's the youngest member of the Task Force (save for Light and L) and his pronoun gives him that youthful feeling.
One situation I've heard him use a different pronoun was when he got busted by the Yotsuba Group, and introduced himself with 私 (わたくし/watakushi) - an even more polite version of watashi. Oh, he also uses watashi on Sakura TV, for similar reasons to Light's usage of watashi.
Soichiro Yagami 私 (わたし/watashi). I don't think he's ever shown using a different one? We only see most of the Kira Task Force at work, so it's expected that they all use formal pronouns.
Aizawa 私 (わたし/watashi). Except for when he's quitting the Task Force, then he switches to 俺 (おれ/ore). Ore is a masculine informal pronoun, considered more rude and rough. He's angry at L and it shows.
Mogi 私 (わたし/watashi), I think, but he doesn't talk much.
Team Kira:
Misa Amane Misa's main pronoun is her name. She basically talks about herself in 3rd person, which might sound silly in english, so most translations don't include it. It's cutesy and childlish and she probably does this as part of her idol persona.
She also uses 私 (わたし/watashi) at times (which is basically the most common pronoun used by women). As I mentioned before, it's considered formal when men use it, but for women it can be both formal and informal. Well, she uses it formally (when it's weird to just use Misa) for example in the Yotsuba interview. And of course, just like Light she uses watashi when posing as Kira (on the tapes in Sakura TV, on the phone in the 2nd part of the series).
Here's Misa using watashi during the interview:
Tumblr media
Teru Mikami 私 (わたし/watashi)
Kiyomi Takada 私 (わたし/watashi)
Shinigami:
Ryuk 俺 (おれ/ore)
Rem 私 (わたし/watashi)
Yotsuba Arc:
Most of my research comes from Yotsuba arc (like all the specific examples above...) so I'm including the Yotsuba Group guys. But first, others from this arc.
Aiber 俺 (おれ/ore) usually, 私 (わたし/watashi) when acting as Eraldo Coil.
Wedy 私 (わたし/watashi)
Yotsuba Group: First I have to say that we see them most of them only at work, so they're going to use formal pronouns.
Hatori 僕 (ぼく/boku), but he uses watashi once when keeping watch on Matsui.
Takahashi He doesn't use any in the Kira Meetings (because he doesn't talk much). I'm pretty sure I heard him using ore (maybe at the party?), but I couldn't find it in the manga.
Namikawa 私 (わたし/watashi)
Mido 私 (わたし/watashi)
Shimura He actually is only shown using 俺 (おれ/ore). Even at the meetings. He's a very unassuming guy, so I feel like there's a contrast with him using the informal ore with his coworkers, when most of the others use watashi.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Namikawa and Mido still use formal watashi, even when the three of them are hanging out at Mido's house. The only one using ore is again, Shimura.
Tumblr media
I think thanks to his kind personality his usage of ore gives a sense of familiarity, instead of sounding crass.
Ooi 私 (わたし/watashi) in the meetings. In a call with Kida, he uses 俺 (おれ/ore). I want to add that in a work setting ore can be used by people that are either older or in superior positions. Ooi is the oldest in the group, and de facto leads the meetings, but idk if it means anything. Maybe he uses watashi with the group, but ore one-on-one? Maybe that's the etiquette?
Tumblr media
Kida 私 (わたし/watashi)
Higuchi We get more scenes with him and we get to see him switching pronouns. One of them is 私 (わたし/watashi). He uses it in those situations: - talking to Rem (and/or himself). He seems to respect her so he's usually formal when talking to her. This might be also him talking to himself, but since Rem's there let's assume it's at least half-aimed at her... Anyway, here Higuchi talks about marrying Misa:
Tumblr media
Even when giving this ego-driven speech (again, about marrying Misa and some more...) he uses watashi:
Tumblr media
Talking with Rem in the car:
Tumblr media
- thinking. He's kinda inconsistent because he thinks with both watashi and ore. Mostly watashi though. Maybe he uses ore when he feels more confident? Here after confessing to Misa he's Kira:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And some more:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
At least in two of those he's like "my life is over, i'll lose my job... oh and go to jail and maybe die... but my job...!"
- in formal/business setting. Ok that's a stretch, but before making this post I was convinced he used it more in the series. We can assume he would in a formal situation, but it doesn't happen in the manga so I have no proof. Huh. Here he pretends to be a lost businessman before shooting Light's dad:
Tumblr media
Then there's 俺 (おれ/ore). It's typically used by men around family and friends. It can sound cocky, and indicates a sense of masculinity. Situations where Higuchi uses ore include:
- talking to coworkers. Higuchi doesn't talk that much during meetings and if he does he doesn't use any pronouns. I was wondering if he's more like Ooi (watashi during meetings, ore outside meetings) or Shimura (always ore). I think it's the second based on these two panels:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
At least I think it's him talking to Shimura? This moment was cut from the anime so we don't know who's saying it, but it fits Higuchi (and the person saying it uses ore so that excludes most of the people there). The panel below it shows him responding to Mido with ore.
Below are other moments he uses ore with coworkers, during the Misa interview and on the phone with Mido:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like with most things Higuchi does I think he's going for nonchalant, but it comes across as sloppy and disrespectful. Just look at him here:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
His chair is so far back, he's leaning in it with crossed arms. He's trying to show how much he doesn't give a fuck about this interview... Even if it's in his interest to get info about L from Misa! Talk about posturing.
- date with Misa, including his Kira confession. I think it's common for men to use ore when talking to women they're pursuing? I've read about a shoujo manga where the male lead usually uses watashi, but it's a big moment when he switches to ore with the female lead to show he's serious about her (/interested in her romantically).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
- thinking. This one happens before he confesses he's Kira:
Tumblr media
And he uses ore after making the eye deal when he's like "I'm invincible" (lol). I don't know what to get from this, but there's like 3 panels where he thinks with ore as compared to 6+ with watashi.
Wammy's house:
Near 私 (わたし/watashi)
Mello 俺 (おれ/ore). He's the odd one out when compared to formal L and Near. Well, he is a thug and works with the mafia.
Matt 俺 (おれ/ore). I was surprised to find it so easily considering his lack of screentime.

Tsuda Kenjiro - Nichiyoubi no Hatsumimi Gaku 2024.03.10
Tumblr media
Highlights/Anecdotes of this episode:
Tsudaken tries to do the narration for his own guest appearance and dies of embarrassment
He blanked out and forgot his lines when he tried to act for the first time in a long while
Clips of his many major and minor TV drama appearances over the years were shown
His role in The Last Man made him trend worldwide on Twitter
Tsuda shared why he started acting and voice acting
He went on a 1-week holiday trip to Prague and got recognized by overseas Jujutsu Kaisen fans 5 times.
Nakajima Kento talked about how he admired Kaiba Seto from Yu-Gi-Oh. He told Tsuda about it when they worked together. On Kento's birthday, Tsuda sent him a personalized voice message, saying one of the most famous lines in Yu-Gi-Oh.
Tsuda played Inui Sadaharu in Prince of Tennis (PoT) and it changed his life dramatically. PoT was at the forefront of the "ikemen" boom at the time, and he could finally quit doing part-time jobs.
Kazama Shunsuke, who voice acted as the main character for Yu-Gi-Oh, talks about how close the two of them were in that series even though they were playing as each other's rivals. They were both newbies to the voice acting industry with no other jobs at the time, so they hung out a lot as they waited for their call time.
Kazama is particularly smug at being aware of Tsuda's charm a lot earlier than most people, and he wants everybody to know that, lol
Tsuda shares how the cast and staff from the TV drama Saiai are really passionate about the drama. Same goes from the staff of Jujutsu Kaisen.
Namikawa Daisuke shares some anecdotes about Tsuda. Sometimes tsuda texts him about eating out together, but then leaves him on read when Namikawa asks when he's free.
Tsuda talks about his latest movie, where he plays as a villain for the first time.
Tsudaken talks about his kids (!!) His daughter in particular is a bit eccentric, just like Tsuda (That's Tsuda and the TV Show host's words not mine lol)
A more detailed summary of the episode under the read more:
On his TV drama/ Movie Discography:
Tumblr media
Tsuda talked about experience acting in the hit TV drama Saiai. On his first day filming, he forgot his lines. It's been 12 years since he last played as a recurring character in a TV show, and for his first scene, he had to do a long presentation in front of 30 people. All he could think was that there were a lot of people, and then his mind went blank.
Some notable TV drama appearances of Tsuda:
Tumblr media
- Played as a host in Ikebukuro West Gate Park (2000) in his 20s for 21 seconds - A guy hitting on the main character (Inoue Mao) in Hana Yori Dango in his 30s (2005) for 30 seconds ("Ooh, I got more screentime") - A doctor in Jin (2009) for 24 seconds ("Aww, I had less screentime lol.").
Tumblr media
In 2023, he trended worldwide on X/Twitter as an actor for his impactful scene in the drama The Last Man. When Tsuda turned up in the second episode, his acting was a popular topic on social media.
He adlibbed in the last scene of Last Man. Came up with 30 versions for that scene, and settled on "Shintaro, are you hungry?" Figured a parent would be worrying about whether his kid is feeling hungry, cold or hot.
On his acting:
Originally was aiming to be an actor, not a voice actor.
When he started acting, he was able to let all his dark emotions out using the lines he had to act out. These were feelings such as "hating people", and "hate towards society". It was the first outlet he found for those feelings, and he found that very fun. He was able to bring out his real self when he acted. Because of that experience, he couldn't give up acting.
Unfortunately, money was tight at the time and his electricity and gas would get cut off. It even came to a point when even his water would get cut off. He kept on failing in auditions, so even if he's been practicing on his acting, he didn't really have a chance to show it to others.
For him, the most painful thing about it all was that he was an absolute nobody. He had no proof that he's actually alive. But he overcame that difficulty because he was obstinate-- He believes that this is where his strength lies. He keeps doing things until he's satisfied with it.
On his voice acting career:
Voice acting was what gave him an opportunity to link with the world of expressing himself.
Says Nanami Kento is a wonderful role to play. That Jujutsu Kaisen's influence is amazing.
Tumblr media
During the New Year's holidays, he went on a holiday trip abroad. While he was sightseeing, a foreigner would call out, "Mr. Tsuda?" He said yes, all the while taken aback since he was in Prague. They asked for a photo and a signature. In the one week that he stayed there, it happened 5 times.
When he asked them how they knew him, everyone answered Jujutsu Kaisen. "Nanami, Nanami." He really didn't expect it to be so popular abroad. It made him feel the power of Japanese anime.
Tumblr media
While he was struggling with acting, he was invited to an audition for voice acting and he accepted the invitation with no hesitation. At age 25, he debuted as a voice actor for the anime H2.
At age 29 was his fateful encounter with the series Yu-gi-oh Duel Monsters (2000) where he played Kaiba Seto.
Tumblr media
Nakajima Kento says his idol in life is Kaiba Seto. It was also thanks to Tsuda's acting that Kento admired Kaiba, and he told Tsuda exactly that when Tsuda did the narration for Kento's movie show. On Kento's 27th birthday, he got a voice message from Tsuda, saying "It's 27-year-old Nakajima Kento's turn! Draw!!" Kento was ecstatic. He thinks Tsuda is really cool.
Tumblr media
A year after Yu-Gi-oh, he played Inui Sadaharu from Prince of Tennis. The Ikemen (Hot Guys) boom was rising at the time, and Prince of Tennis was at the forefront of this trend. It changed his life dramatically. He was finally able to quit doing part-time jobs. At around 31 years old. He always felt like he was walking a fine line, so it was a relief to have a stable livelihood.
Anecdotes from Kazama Shunsuke, voice actor of Yugi Moto from Yu-Gi-Oh
Tumblr media
Both Tsuda and Kazama Shunsuke, who played the main character of Yu-gi-oh, were newbies at voice acting when they did Yu-gi-oh. Tsuda was still new to voice acting at the time, while Kazama had never done it before. Although they were playing as each other's rivals, they became close since they were both newbies.
Tumblr media
They both didn't have any other work to do, so they had a lot of time on their hands. Kazama would contact Tsuda and ask if he came to work early, and Tsuda would reply, "I'm free right now so I'm lurking nearby." And they'd have tea together. We'd talk about what we could do to be good at voice acting like other VAs.
Kazama talked about how worried he was about Tsuda. When he laughs, Tsuda does it in 3 levels of increasing laughter. At times, he'd even do 5 levels, since the animation would also have 5 different clips as the power of his laughter increases. The 3rd level would be his usual laughter, so Kazama thought Tsuda's blood vessels would burst going beyond that lol
Kazama says he's super happy that Tsuda got to have a lot of regular acting and voice acting jobs. But Kazama just wants people to know that he's been aware of Tsuda's charm for more than 20 years now. A lot earlier than most people have lmao.
On what went on behind of the scenes of a popular scene in JJK:
Tumblr media
Says there's a particular scene that highlights Nanami. He wondered how he'd do it, since that scene was originally in the manga. The producer told him what the mangaka said was Nanami's feelings during that scene, but Tsuda and the staff are free to play it out as they like. The director also told Tsuda to do it the way Tsuda thinks it should be acted. Leave no regrets. Like in the making of the drama Saiai, Tsuda feels that hit series like Jujutsu Kaisen are made with a lot of love from the staff, and this love is reflected in the tiny details. He believes that viewers could really tell from that.
Anecdotes from Namikawa Daisuke, who he's voice acted with in a number of works
Namikawa Daisuke says Tsuda's acting method is something unique to Tsuda. It can't be learned.
Namikawa describes Tsuda as a sloth with a nice voice. Tsuda: LOL. Say something nicer!
Tsuda would just contact him whenever, going, "I want to eat soon."
Namikawa: I'm not your mom!! When I text back, "When are you available?" He doesn't reply. He probably isn't feeling up to it right then. Staff: How long do you have to wait for a reply? Namikawa: At the latest, he leaves me on read.
Tumblr media
In his latest movie My Home Hero, it is Tsuda's first time playing a villain. Said he had fun doing it. He was asked to make the character very quirky, which really pleased him as an actor. Sasaki Kuranosuke would make pleased faces due to the littlest things Tsuda would do, and it really pleases Tsuda in return.
On his family
Tumblr media
Tsuda has 2 kids, a daughter in middle school and a son in grade school. It was his first time talking about his children in a show. Says no one ever asked, so he never had an opportunity to talk about it.
During holidays, Tsuda never answer work calls from his manager. He wants his day offs to be dedicated to playing with his children.
Wakako-san was just fangirling over Tsuda this whole episode lol "Ah, so cute!"
Tsuda talks about how his children won't speak with him if they haven't seen each other for a long period of time, and it makes him feel lonely.
His kids watch anime, and some of them are ones he's in. When he mentions this to his children, they're like, "I know." But they never try to talk to him about it. Tsuda: Why??
His kids love Detective Conan, and Tsuda actually is in the latest movie. (The host, Hayashi Osamu, uses this opportunity to flex and share that he's appeared in a Conon work before too LOL)
Tumblr media
Tsuda says his daughter is a bit eccentric like him. When he asked her what she'd like for her birthday, she asked for a biwa (musical instrument), leaving him very baffled. In the previous years, she asked for a pocket watch, ship in a bottle, kemari (ball from a sport back in ancient Japan) Tsuda: Huh…
Tsuda says that now that the borders between countries are dissolving thanks to the internet and social media, he wants them to strengthen their identity as a Japanese person who lived in Japan by attending lessons for Nohgaku (a traditional style of Japanese theater).
Says experiencing something is also remembering what's tough. How there's a disparity with your imagination and experience. For example, we all know that getting scalded is hot. But actually getting scalded is hotter than you would have imagined.
Tsuda talked about he wasn't an elite. If anything, acting may be the thing he's worst at. But he believes life has consolation matches. (Meaning, even if you fail once doesn't mean you're completely out of the running) Being an early bloomer isn't everything.

hi whatever. p4 drama cd adachi supercut. no it's not translated no it doesnt include "You'll understand when you get older", but it's all in the video description anyway. I genuinely like how they depicted adachi here, maybe because of the fact they didnt visualize him at all and im left to think about it on my own and not get bombarded with the very interesting visuals p4 has had to offer throughout the years. but otherwise i really appreciate the characterization here
anyone who wants to see the rest of the drama CDs documented you can look here I suppose
