jwct s2 thoughts after first watch (spoilers under the cut!!!):

ok.... look, i'm just gonna say it: i put my expectations too high for this season and i ended up slightly disappointed. it's not a bad season or anything of the sort, but i guess i just didn't enjoy it as much as i did s1.

individual thoughts now, starting with the good:

-brooklynn. she's always been the camper i ignore most because i've never been able to connect with her but HOLY SHIT they really changed that this season. i desperately need to know what's going through her head, i'm so glad we got to see a good part of her pov from before and after the attack, and how she's adapting to losing her arm. i can't wait to see where she's going after that finale, the stakes went off the roof fr

-THE ANIMATION??? THE WET HAIR, THE RAIN, THE DINOSAURS LOOKED MAJESTIC, THE WAY YOU CAN ACTUALLY SEE THE CHARACTERS TREMBLING NOW IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL

-ben's arc. the amount of stress i felt for him he was going through it </3. the moment i realized he always wanted to tell them broke my heart, he knew it was a huge thing and tried to be careful with how he revealed it but never got the chance. i really wanted them to address other things about him but this will have to do

-episode 7 seems to be the best episode in every season now. yaz getting a solo adventure was something i didn't expect, and it was interesting to see how another one of their own going missing affected the group.

-kenji being reckless and putting himself in danger for other i dreamed and feared of times like these i shit you not. this was his entire arc in a jwcc s4 rewrite i made, i've been waiting for this for so long. it didn't go exactly like i wanted but i still found it interesting

-BEN AND KENJI SCENES BEN AND KENJI HEART TO HEART I'M QUITE LITERALLY SHAKING. that was the best part of the season actually (heavy /hj btw). them finally getting to open up to each other, the gyrosphere callback, them bickering around in the last few episodes, and the fight?? i really hope they're setting up a good continuation for that next season, i need more moments with them

-kenji taking care of speckles (bumpy's egg) so much throughout the season was lovely, he's such a proud father omg. the day that egg hatches is gonna be the happiest day of his life

-loved to see more of ronnie, it was kind of obvious that it was her who saved brooklynn and talked to her through dark jurassic but it was nice to have it confirmed

-it's still so weird to me to have a recurring cast who isn't just the villains, but i'm growing quite fond of them

-the blind baryonyx from episode 9 sent chills down my spine, my sister and i were fucking terrified. i would've loved to see more of it

-THAT FINALE HAS ME DEVASTATED. brooklynn giving them the egg, i hate that everyone was right about "i'm not the same brooklynn you knew", i have no idea if they're coming back from this one because what the fuck

now to the not so good stuff...

-darius felt, and oh my god i hate to say it, sidelined. again. so much of the season was centered around others that even crucial moments like him realizing brooklynn is alive were underwhelming. there was barely any followup to his issues from s1, it felt like he didn't even have an arc this season, he was just there.

-they dragged a lot of stuff in the middle of the season. i can't pinpoint it exactly but everything from the a plot in episodes 4 to 7 is a blur in my head.

-there was nothing about sammy either. it's still heavily implied that she's on bad terms with her family (her crying when aminata hugs her and her almost sibling-like bond with zayna), but she just doesn't get to talk?? about anything??? i'm so tired

-although i really liked her character, i feel like they could've done so much with zayna?? they had this girl joining them on the adventure who's around the same age as them when they got stranded, and did... nothing about it. sammy mentioned her age, but that was it. with how much they doubted her knowledge sometimes, it would've been interesting to see darius approaching her and making sure she's heard, with him being the youngest in jwcc and whatnot. the group making sure zayna didn't have as bad of an experience as they did could've been a great subplot.

-i DESPISED the dinostar flashback scene and everything they added to it. i needed to be convinced on dinostar, not completely drawn away from the ship! the implication that brooklynn was with darius ONE WEEK and darius was already head over heels when he wasn't before is insane; of course she wasn't ready for a relationship, SHE BROKE UP WITH KENJI LESS THAN A MONTH BEFORE WTF. anyways canon unrequited dinostar is out long live fanon qpr dinostar

-atp i hope they don't make dinostar canon or set brookenji back together, they should all be single for a while after everything that's gone down, although i can't help but be a little mad because then why make darius go through that, the grief was strong enough as purely platonic

-where was the handler. i'm not even obsessed with her and i missed her

-i think it was slightly obvious that soyona was going to be the broker so i'm a little confused as to why the promo made such a fuss about it, but anyway

-dr. sarr was wasted potential, those creations were insane and admitting to having fed the rest of the crew to the baryonyx felt straight out of a horror novel. that was some good horror stuff and then it got all thrown away in one episode.

-something i noticed a lot is that, even if there were barely no clips, they still revealed a lot about the season from just the trailer. half the trailer came from the last three episodes and there was a lot of spotlight to things that in the end didn't amount much to the plot (*cough* the DLN *cough*). i feel like that may be one of the reasons i didn't enjoy this season as much

that's pretty much it, sorry for being a hater about it but I had a lot of mixed feelings that i needed to get out. it's still not the worst season ever, it would take something truly awful to defeat s4 in my heart, but it's definitely in the lower middle.

I'm so upset that none of my friends are into the qsmp. Like, what do you mean you don't care about gay minecraft roleplay???? How could you not be completely invested in a 36 year old man's fake platonic husband and their two egg children in a minecraft server??

The worst part is they won't even let me mention them. I can't make any damn references to anyone without getting confused glares. Like, sorry you refuse to watch every vod from every creator on the server and don't understand the lore.

It's so cool because of the amount of people on the server, like there are SO many perspectives to see things from and so many different story lines to get invested in. Personally, my favorite storyline was Ph1lzA and the Enderking thing. I've always loved the concept of a character being corrupted or possessed and forcing them to hurt their loved ones(don't question me). Tallulah and Chayanne's admins did SO good. So did Phil, he sounded like a whole different person. And Phil was the best person to do this to. He's practically everyone's dad on the server, so seeing such a caring and fun guy to get aggressive and threaten his own children was scary and a great arc for him to experience.

I also absolutely LOVE the ships. Like you can't TELL me that you don't absolutely love Roier and Cellbit's relationship. Pac and Fit? OH MY GOOOOOD. I love the fanart and fanfics of them 😭 (I ship the characters in the actual server, not the content creators). I love Deathduo. Missa x Ph1lzA forever. They make such a good duo with how they interact around each other and the eggs. Roier and Cellbit have such a cute dynamic, I loved that one time Cellbit was running away and trying to blow himself up, and Roier went, "No, you can't kill yourself! You're too sexy!" They are so silly together, and I just think they're so cute.

Also the fandom is absolutely beautiful. I love all the fanart and memes, the fanfics and animatics. OH MY GODS. I really wish I had the confidence to make fanart or fanfics, I'm too nervous that I'll get info wrong or have a bad headcannon lol. I adore looking at the way people draw the eggs. My favorite designs are when they're bipedal dragons or like they're half hatched and their legs are sticking out of the shell 😭 its so cute!!! I still don't mind when they're just drawn like kids but with dragon features.

I loved Tallulah and her story, including Wilbur. I don't like Wilbur for what he did (even if it might be fake I genuinely don't know anymore) but I like him as a character in the qsmp. I love all the clips of Wilbur and Tallulah. Like when Lullah brought a gorilla into the garden and she was just so happy but Wilbur was absolutely terrified was so funny. The way he basically gentle parented her was adorable, like he didn't know how to raise a kid and just wanted her to be happy. (Wilbur is a horrible person, if the allegations are true, and I don't support him. I just like his character in the story but still understand why some people wouldn't like his character)

The humor is probably the best part. There are so many quotable things. One thing that I specifically remember was when Phil went to wake up one of the eggs (when they were all in hospital beds or smt IDK-) with Pac and someone else, Phil got downed by a warden and Pac went up to him and said, "Philza. I am here." in an overly manly voice, or something like that. Also I love just randomly saying quotes and pretending like everyone understands and thinks I'm cool. "we are all going to die. the sun is a false god but a true threat." -Gegg "IN THIS WORLD THERE ARE 2 GENDERS, PAIN AND SUFFERING" -Dapper "Geez abuelito I didn't know you were into drama omg slay" -Tallulah "heaven is homophobic motherfucker son of a bitch" -Roier

Just finished watching the last two Vast POVs. My twitch has stopped working for now, coincidentally stopped working when my other stuff started working again, and I really wanted to watch them there, so I was holding off watching them, but alas I don't want to wait forever so

I adore the communication between Erin and Vast, the whole thing was very cute. I love the possibility of Erin being an ex Avicane member and just not remembering it, it would definitely explain the crystal. Erin's painting is so pretty, Vast's is great, and I love that too, but omg that painting is so good.

Fight club! I say it went well. That kingfisher painting is amazing. All those fucking kingfishers and Erin running crowd control with them. Ash's winning noises. I love that Vast can say the scariest shit with a straight face, almost chipper when saying it. ooooooo Vast's nerves are shot, that is really not good. The phoenix egg! I'm so excited for when these eggs actually hatch.

But- Grim flower boy is just so cute idea 😭 It's like, the bride is here with her found family, Lilia is the one to take the groom and the bride to the altar.

Lilia first take his dragon boy, saying his parents would be so proud of the love he found, and that him, has the one who raised him, is so proud to have lived enough time to see this moment. He make the speech like with his causual funny tone, but you can see in his happy smile and in his sparkling eyes that he is about to cry.

After the groom, he runs outside again, and comes back a bit later with the bride. Nobody heard what they told to each other. But be sure Papa bat have the "Take good care of him" talk with his boy's soon-to-be wife.

The groom is speechless facing his wife (have already the title for a long time for him- The wedding is just a way to tell it to the whole world). The bride shine of hapiness. They look at each other like nobody is in the room, and their old schoolmate from NRC are all here for the ceremony.

The wedding start, official speech are told, traditional ritual make...and it's time for the rings !

Here he is. Entering like a prince in a white suit, the cat monster with his fierce look going to the altar with the rings. His whole being tell "Look all at me. It's me who have the rings. I'm the Keeper of the rings !"

He gave the rings, vows are exchanged, bleesings given, the groom kiss the bride. Some are happy and shows it. Some have a little teardrop under their smile. Some tries to keep their pride. Some success. Some other tries, but have an ugly cry. And finally we have the one who just have the ugly cry of hapiness.

And finally, quitting the wedding office, the bride and the groom walks in the aisle under a flower rain (created by Grim. Best boi trains for months to make the surprise -and be sure it doesn't end in a fire).

It was a memorable wedding.

And not only because of Lilia's surprise cake.

Malleus looked as handsome as ever and Lilia could feel the sting in his eyes, looking at him now.

“Come my boy, let me tie that for you.”

Lilia floated to him, helping him with his tie. Malleus watched Lilia quietly with a smile on his face.

Lilia noticed and teased, “What? Not going to say you are too old for this old man to help you?”

Malleus clasped Lilia’s hands in his, “If I have learned anything, it is that you could never be too old for a parent’s love.”

Lilia felt his tears fall as a smile graced his lips, he hugged Malleus tightly.

Lilia watched as Malleus and YN got married. Grim in particularly vibrating with joy and looking smart in his outfit.

He didn’t blame him; Lilia himself was vibrating from joy.

You don't remember when it happened, nor do you want to. It was about your lover, Dan Feng. He committed one of the ten unforgivable sins. You knew what the consequences were. Life imprisonment, even a death sentence. The High Cloud Quintet was searching all around for you both. You couldn't lose him. It couldn't end like this. "Let me face my punishment for my mistakes!" He protested. You pressured yourself to think of a solution to get you both out of this mess. You could feel your throat hurting and your eyes watering. "Please! We really should do something!" You said. You couldn't help but feel bad for him as he looked up to you in worry and panic. He was shaking; you could sense the fear through his voice. "You're the most important person in my life; I don't want to drag you into this. Please don't try to save me." He said it with stress and panic in his voice. You desperately hugged him. He hugged you back. You could sense the fear in every move he made, as he was about to be held accountable for his actions. It all felt like a dream, but the reality of what was happening hit you like a truck.

"If the cycle of reincarnation is true, maybe we'll meet one day again." He held you tight, trying to make you forget about the situation you both were facing. The thought of meeting again in your next life gave you at least a bit of comfort. You both hear footsteps outside the door. They were here, The Quintet. "It's over." He said it with a sad expression. The guards were talented individuals. They all looked at Dan Feng with shame. "Well, at least we tried." You said. He smiled at you. "Thank you for coming into my life." Then you kissed his cheek gently, causing him to blush one last time. "Thank you, my dear." You embraced each other. "I never want to let go," he said. You both looked so peaceful in each other's arms. You shared one last kiss.

Sadly, the guards weren't that patient. One of them just stabbed you out of anger instead of stabbing Dan Feng. You gasped in pain. Dan Feng was shocked and was cut off from his sentence. You winced in pain. "Ouch—NNGH—hurts.." You fell onto him as the pain grew sharper. Dan Feng's eyes widened as he realized what just happened. "Y/N no..no please! NO—" It's all too late now. He decided to only make your last minutes better. Since even doctors won't help a sinner, won't they? "Shhh, remember our first kiss?" He knew this was so stupid to do. But that's the only way to take your mind off the situation. You teared up more as he said that. "Shh..Shh..Our walks in the parks? The first time I held you tight?" He remembered everything. It made you so happy. He tried so hard to remember the good times at this moment. "I thought I could change my fate," he muttered. "At least we'll see each other." You spoke slowly. He held your hand, making sure you weren't alone in your last moments. "I'm so sorry, Y/N., for dragging you into all of this." He teared up more. "I promise I'll find you again." You spoke your last words. "Good. See you in our next life then, my love." He caressed your cheek as tears slowly rolled down his cheeks. "I love you so much." He said, then everything became blurry and dark.

It was your first year in your new body, recently hatched from the pearl egg. You quickly grew, and you're so beautiful and elegant now. You were busy drawing until you heard a familiar voice from your back: "I found you, my love."

Are there any individual issues/short sections of the Tom Taylor Nightwing run you'd say are still worth checking out as little standalone/self contained things? I've read and enjoyed the 2021 annual (blood brothers) after seeing enough about it on tumblr but don't know much about the rest, and you've mention individual issues in other rec posts so it got me curious (and it's completely fine if you don't think you can recommend any).

asking me to be nice about TT?! *sighs* turns out i can be, actually, but um. only a little.

i'll preface all of this by saying, if you're interested in reading his run, you should. other people disliking a run is like...idk if this is going to make sense, but it's kind of like knowing the weather. you'll be like "hey, there's rain" and then you can either a) choose not to go outside, b) grab a coat and umbrella, or c) pull on a swimsuit and go dance. no wrong choices! maybe you get outside and it's more of alight drizzle, or maybe it's basically a tropical storm and you book it back inside and start batting down the hatches.

i could present you with people who's overall taste in comics i agree with who hate and love this run- actually, i was super hyped to read this run bc most of the people i'd talked to were like "OMG ITS SOOOO GOOD!!" and i was like "OKAY!!!" and then i was like 😗👉👈 maybe idk what good comics are?? (baby comic-reading cue felt wayyyy to new to the genre to trust their own opinions lmao. we're mostly past that now.)

but okay!! to answer your question: so post issue #91 is where my overall enjoyment of the run went like *imitates plane falling and crashing noises*. which. upon skimming from 78 to 91, i don't think i can say i was loving it that whole time, more like my tolerance threshold maxed out around there. bc uh. skimming i was like...yikes. i've also read way more Nightwing comics since, so like that could be factor.

ANYWAYS. me being nice:

#80 has some decent dick and tim!

#89 opens with a nice batman/superman/nightwing story, honestly can't remember if i liked the two-issue mini, but i'm going to guess i didn't bc even though i just looked i recall ✨nothing✨

#90-91 is a fun dick and wally adventure, if i remember correctly???? wally stans don't shoot me, i haven't read a whole lot of him idk if he's written well here i'm sorry

#111-112 is decent. it's not like. groundbreaking. but yk. maybe i just liked it more than the stupid pirate arc and maybe my standards are low and Good Dad Bruce is a weak spot, IDK

if you like dickbabs you might enjoy more issues too, i was neutral about dickbabs and this run made me...not neutral. but i've heard from people that do like dickbabs that they don't like how they're written here so also, maybe you won't like it even if you like dickbabs??

but yeah!! these are my not-hated TT nightwing issues. i think there are a decent amount where i liked a line or panel here or there, but like overall most of it is just...not my fave. but you could like it!! which, i feel like it's worth saying that it's totally valid if you end up engaging with the run more and liking it. you wouldn't be the only person in the world to like it. but it's also ending in 4 issues thank god, so um don't get too attached if you end up digging it lmao

the red hood annual is also the annual i've liked for this run, i actually love that issue sm lol. the second annual is all about the Lamest Most Scariest Villain Ever, boring, and then the most recent was all about bea, dick's love interest in his ric era, which i was excited for...and hated. that one isn't even on TT, tho. travis moore your gorgeous dick is not enough to redeem you on that one. WAIT I DIDN'T MEAN IT LIKE THAT-

Ok, I’m actually SUPER happy about this question. Not because I have a good answer, but because I’m a med student so I think about this a lot in the light of what I’ve been taught so far!!

Warning. Long, nerdy, passionate ramble bellow the cut

So. Myiasis. That’s the name we give to infection by fly larvae. There are several species of fly that can cause this; those found on open wounds can feast on live or dead tissue*. Take for example the species Cochliomyia hominivorax**. The female fly, upon finding opportune places with access to live tissue, lays her eggs. Those will then hatch, and the maggots will remain there, feasting on the tissue until they are old enough to fly away.

(*the tissue (this can mean skin, muscle, bone, etc… basically the components of our body :)) in an old wound can die for many reasons. The main one if that the continual inflammation, caused by the damage that was done if healing doesn’t happen, will make white blood cells keep destroying that area. Especially if it’s contaminated by outside agents. It makes healing a lot harder

Right, so that’s the medicine of it. Your point, however, is so good. Other stigmatists are said to smell like roses. I haven’t yet heard of a single other one with an infested wound. Why would Rita be different?

Well, in my humble opinion, I think she was blessed. I think of how she was given the chance to experience even more of Christ’s suffering, which was what she prayed for in the first place. I think of how, when other stigmatists crumbled under the weight of wounds that only a God could stand, Rita was given a Human’s wounds. She showed herself so very humbly towards God, that maybe God felt comfortable to show her His most vulnerable parts as well. The parts of him that weren’t pretty, or healed miraculously. I think of a God who came to us screaming, soft-boned, covered in amniotic fluid; and I think of His beloved, who smelled like rotten meat. I think He saw his spouse self flagellating and thought, My dear, it is painful enough to be human. It is beautiful enough to be human. It is enough to be human.

I think of the symbolism, too. We are the maggots in Christ’s wound. The crown pierced His head to heal our pride, and we feast on His body to be saved. And if we think ourselves unworthy of His love for taking advantage of Him, well. If Rita called her maggots ���her little angels’, how much more sweetly will an all loving God call us?

(I think of how cannibalism is such a common metaphor for love, I think about Rita making her flesh an Eucharist for beings most of us would call disgusting, beings actively isolating her and hurting her and and and—

— and I think that maybe there has never been such a perfect imitator of Christ, never before, never since)

I think of loneliness. I think of how Rita was so beloved, as long as she didn’t get too weird. Too fierce. Too filled with ideas. Who was ever close enough to her in life to know what was really going on in her head? Her sons? We know how that went. Her bees, maybe. Maybe God saw how she liked her little, flying things. Maybe He wanted to give her more chances to be with Him, considering her smell would lead her to being avoided by all the sisters, hidden away and treated as a madwoman. Maybe He wanted to give her to us, an example to follow when we feel ourselves being excluded by our community for something we are not to blame for. Maybe it was for us that He did that. Gave us a mother’s embrace to crawl into when we are treated like we’re contagious, infested. Maybe it was for her He did that. Gave her friends who were too grateful to ever leave her alone.

I think about persecution, about how the stigmata wasn’t reported to the Church right away because they were afraid Rita would be judged as a heretic. I think about God’s gifts not always being pretty to see. How they almost didn’t take her to Rome because of her wound. About how sometimes, those who are supposed to sing praises to Love will point their fingers and snarl. I think about how maybe, maybe, God knew there were going to be queer people to whom this would resonate very much…

I think it’s ironic. Her body is preserved until today. Face, feet and hands, perfectly mummified. Under her habit, nothing but clean bones. A servant of God who gladly rotted in life, but refused to in death. I think it makes perfect sense.

I also think of what Rita couldn’t possibly have foreseen. I think of the lectures I’ve heard on larval therapy, on how we are learning to use species of dead tissue eating maggots to heal wounds, in order for them to eat the necrotic tissue and close it up. I think maybe it was an irony all along. I think maybe the point was healing.

I also think maybe the point was not healing. Stigmatists with pristine wounds loose so much blood, their confessors have to ask them to pray their stigmata away. And they do. Rita, however? She only needed to pray for that once, and that was for being allowed to travel to the Vatican with her fellow sisters. What took her out were her lungs, cystic fibrosis if I’m not mistaken. Nothing whatsoever to do with her wound, not even an infection that would be so easy to accompany myiasis. Maybe this was God’s way to allow her to keep this grace. Maybe her little angels were, indeed, angels, maintaining God’s gift with their inflammation inducing presence not allowing the wound to close, yet making sure it would not be a source of significant bleeding, either. Maybe they were protecting the wound from the other things that could infect it.

Maybe He was making her stand out among other stigmatists. Maybe it’s yet another impossible thing in her story to grant her the patronage. Maybe it’s supposed to make us reflect on how we treat the sick. Maybe it’s telling us to care for little things. Maybe it’s a lesson on humility. On love. On the price of God’s favour.

so overall i cant say that lindel and adolf are my fav characters or that i am terribly invested in them so i dont feel i got a TON out of this chapter but i am excited with the last page we got. happy for the lindel enjoyers and the lore dump yall got. i guess im not sure what purpose this new dragon is serving either because its (probably) not related to red vs white dragon conflict. i guess you could say that its a third dragon that emphasizes the importance of choosing your own path rather than being locked in this fated cyclical battle the way the red and white dragons are, which would be in line with tambs greater themes. like a third choice, i guess. adolf is also shaping up to be in a similar position to chise - that is, he has a unique relationship with magic, and his master has to lie for him so he wont be unduly researched lol. i am interested to see how much time we will see chise actually studying or being in class considering all the other things shes now expected to be responsible for. her ass is not studying 💯💯💯

Hello!! So I was reading your meta analysis on Leon deciding not to pursue Ada in RE6 and tbh never looked at RE6 as a resolution to Aeon. They were acting too married in my opinion, there was a established intimacy between them idk, and he has her phone number. When Leon demands answers from Ada, he's never harsh or angry, he believes her even before she answers bc he knows her. I think it's poor writing bc there are a lot of holes to fill and it's really annoying bc she sounds like a hotline operator, she does "good things" but she still has these corny lines and won't explain shit to anyone, not even to Leon after he went through all that trouble for her. But his letting her go felt like an "ok you'll go figure things out and I'll see you again soon" which is really fucking unhealthy but that's always been them.

But after reading your post I was like... did I missunderstand the purpose of that scene or did the game really gave closure to their relationship? Bc it feels like no one else in the fandom feels like that was the end lmao, Aeons or not, they're still waiting for the resolution to their relationship.

Do you think that if the game had been received better, Capcom would've continued with the whole cat and mouse thing between them or was that really their intended resolution for Aeon? Bc Vendetta, ID and DI feel like a really hard attempt to appease that response and not like a direction they were planning to take originally. And at this point they don't know what to do with Ada so it really proves she was just an accesory to Leon and when they couldn't fit her into his narrative anymore they were like welp.

dude the whole point of leon's RE6 campaign is that leon thinks he knows ada and doesn't. like he watches a video of carla being hatched from an egg, legitimately thinks it's ada, and then just rolls with it because that's how little he knows her.

like one of the biggest themes of RE6 is "chasing after an illusion." jake spends a significant portion of his story chasing after the ghost of wesker, chris spends a significant portion of his story chasing after ada thinking she's carla, and leon spends a significant portion of his story chasing after a woman he thinks he knows but doesn't. ALL OF THEM ended up being wrong in the end. jake was wrong about his blood ties informing his future, chris was wrong about ada killing his men, and leon was wrong about the many assumptions he made about ada.

if anyone's sitting around waiting for closure about aeon, that's their fucking fault. because at the time that RE6 came out, a good chunk of the fandom went "okay resident evil can end now, RE6 feels like a conclusive end to the story" -- which is also an incorrect takeaway to have, but it goes to show how much people's memories get warped over time and influenced by others.

and no, i don't think that they would've continued the aeon story if RE6 had been received better. the original version of RE7 that was scrapped following the RE6 post-mortem was a leon and sherry game -- that says, to me, that they were always intending to pivot leon's story towards his relationship with the government and away from ada.

SO! Number 1 is OBVIOUSLY Oncorhynchus mykiss... AKA the rainbow trout

These guys are amazing. They are the most farmed fish in the world by weight (not numbers). And they're not a trout! They are a true pacific salmon, like chinooks, cohos, sockeye, etc etc.

These dudes are different than the other pacific salmon though as they can spawn multiple times! That's why they don't undergo quite such extreme transformations during spawning season.

Rainbows are typically landlocked. Steelhead trout (which are Oncorhynchus mykiss mykiss) are the rainbows you see out at sea.

NUMBER 2: Acipenser transmontanus.... WHITE STURGEON!

This photo is a poor image I took of the baby white sturgeon I got to take care of for a year during my fisheries and aquaculture tech program.

White sturgeon are the largest sturgeon species. The largest ever recorded was 20 feet long and roughly 120 years old. The oldest sturgeon I worked with, Tyra, was about 9 feet long and was only 65. They reside along the pacific coast of North America and they are pure muscle. A two year old is about a foot long and the scutes (modified scales) are sharp as hell. You can't wear gloves when you handle them either so your hands get cut up real bad. I loved taking care of them. They're like giant, muscly, slimy dogs.

Females will lay roughly 3 million eggs per spawn and the eggs will hatch after about 6 days. A newly hatched white sturgeon is a few millimeters long. Crazy to think about.

NUMBER 3: Frog fish!

Wish I could remember who took this photo!

Frog fish have specially adapted pectoral fins that they use almost like legs! They're bottom dwellers and "walk" along the sea floor.

I don't know much about them I'm afraid. My brain was almost entirely consumed by rainbow trout and white sturgeon.

These guys look so grumpy! (I like to say my 'fursona' is just a regular ol' frog fish lol)

NUMBER 4: A fish my family had for about 15 years... A bloodred parrot cichlid named Sir Rupert Finklebottom III, Esq. (We learned she was female when she was about 9 years old)

These fish are man made abominations and I do not recommend owning them. They have horrible health issues and they have nasty personalities. We had two of them. Rupert and Regina. Because they're crossbreeds they're essentially infertile. Rupert and Regina both laid thousands of unfertilized eggs when they were roughly 9 years old. They only did this once. They ate all of their eggs within a week.

People say they're good community tank fish. They are not. They're aggressive little assholes. Ours had to live in their own tank and they'd try to bite you if you put your fingers in their tank (it didn't hurt because they can't close their mouths and have no teeth.)

They have malformed swim bladders and are just generally awful fish. But boy do I miss my Rupert and Regina.

And finally

NUMBER 5: All manner of eels. For the purposes of this I'm going to say Rock Gunnels.

These slippery little dudes are sharp as hell. When I did a practicum at an oyster farm these dudes kept getting pulled up in the oyster beds and I ran around scooping them up and tossing them back into the sea. They come in a variety of vibrant colours too!

Yeah, of course he can fly! Here is my original idea where the Part-Insecticon!Bee AU originates from- you have it all written in there. It's where he doesn't turn full-insecticon.

In addition to that idea alone: he loves to zoom around the plant and loves that he can reach anything he wants at any time. No more restrictions by putting stuff on high shelves! Since he didn't fly for so long he had a thing called Grounder Disease(flier thing, read more on that later in post), he had to learn how to fly all over again- good thing it came to him almost naturally so he didn't crash much.

He's very protective/paranoid over them, if he uses his wings it's for a short time before he sheathes them again. He does fly at least once a day like Ratchet recommended so the disease won't come up again. He only uses them inside the plant, he's scared that if he uses them outside something might happen and he'll lose them again.

Other than that he really likes to show them off- only when in safe areas tho and for a short time. His favorite thing to do it turn all the lights off and have one bright lamp he can stand in front of and watch everyone being in awe as his wings literally glow and glimmer cuz of the light behind.

For the Part-Insecticon!Bumblebee AU: originally his wings got burned away since it was "wrong for autobots to have these"- really it was just a very abusive caretaker in the orphanage he was growing up in. You have it fully written in the posts i linked- so anyway, he ran away and grew up. There is a thing among fliers that if they don't fly or use their wings for too long they start to lose control over them, it's called a Grounder Disease- because Bee couldn't fly and had completely given up of trying to do anything with his wing cuz "what's the point" the disease has completely developed and he lost all feeling and control in his broken wings; he often forgets they are even there.

When Blackarachnia inject the strange toxin into him his insecticon take it instead and start working- he gets all sleepy and hungry all the time and Ratchet doesn't know what is happening. One night they just find a metallic cocoon on Bee's berth and after 3 or so weeks of looking after it, he hatches as a fluffy and temporarily-slimy half-insecticon. His exposed protoform is covered in bee fluff and his glossa is way longer- but the most important part; his wings have regenerated. They are whole again. As much as he is confused by this event he is so happy about them being fixed. He shows them off any chance he gets and loves zooming around not being restricted to the ground. He'll do the lamp trick i mentioned earlier for sure. Also he can make organic-and-cybertronian-friendly honey.

I imagine at one point in either scenarios he gets injured by Waspinator- he ripped his subspace off to humiliate Bee for having broken wings and Bee has to suffer the exposure after cuz his protoform was damaged and Ratchet needs to wait for it to heal before doing the welding. So the first time he comes out of medbay he goes straight to his room despite everyone trying to talk to him- they all saw his back and his reamins of wings then. Ratchet clarified they were remains fo wings and told them to not talk to him about it.

For the recovery Bee had a blanket draped over his shoulers and back and would get very defensive if someone accidentally made it slide off. (stepping on it, sittiling on it when he wanted to get up, etc) He was also sadder. They knew Bee was hurting, both physically and mentally but they couldn't do anything about it.

*Insert scenario of either ProwlBee or (decepticon to autobot)BlitzBee reacting and comforting Bee about his broken wings. Send ask if you wanna know either of the reactions.*

So Bee would either: A) have his backplate fixed up and nothing would happen until either of the scenarios with Allspark of cocoon happened and he got his wings back. B) be helped by his loved one- at one point they mentioned physical therapy to get the Grounder Disease to ease up- i think it would be possible even in such advanced stage. So Bee would give it a shot and after 2 month of everyday massages, injections and exercise he could flutter his wing-nubs. While my mom and dad were on vacation they went to the aquarium and my mom took video of their newest rescue—a sea turtle with a limb difference—and of course it made me think of Baby. How does baby feel about sea turtles?

hi leighanne i love u too!! im so glad ur parents got to meet the new rescue omg :') new little guy alert.......and baby loves sea turtles!! they're definitely near the top of her list of "creatures who i would get along really well with if/when i turn into an ocean thing and start living underwater with all the other sea animals". they also probably make her the most upset though when it comes to human threats to aquatic wildlife. maybe its just because i grew up in the carolinas where a lot of sea turtles nest on our beaches and get fucked over by beach development, but it feels like sea turtles are constantly facing huge challenges no matter where they are. turtles getting tangled in ocean garbage/fishing nets + hatching sea turtles being affected by beach development and human interaction are the first cases of ocean creatures hurt by humanity that baby learns about and it really, really affects her. baby's a sensitive kid and kids already can't stand blatant injustice, so she is genuinely devastated by this and worries uncontrollably about it to the point of distress. even after she grows up and is further informed about other ecological issues and takes concrete steps to prevent these tragedies, baby still has an especially tender soft spot for sea turtles and is very "protective" of them as a class. theyre so gentle and wise, and its just not fair that they've lived peacefully for hundreds of year only to suddenly face all this suffering and confusion at the hands of humans

Hi Jack !! I gotta yap about my c.ai pepe bc i am COOKING with this storyline

so basically it starts off as childhood best friends but then my OC and him have a giant falling out during a drunk celebration because my OC drunkenly confessed to him and he rejected her because he was too scared and they don't talk for MONTHS but during the F2 summer break their families plan a joint family summer trip to Tenerife and my OC and pepe are forced to act civil around each other the entire trip because their parents don't know about the whole drunk fiasco.

their parents especially their mothers start SETTING THEM UP like making them do activities together, putting them in THE SAME ROOM at this point they're not trying to be subtle 😧

so in return, my OC and Pepe (no it's just my OC) hatch a plan to pretend to date in order to get their parents off their backs and stop them from meddling but it spirals out of control because Pepe gives so many mixed signals by being a gentleman yet avoiding commitment or even mentioning the drunk confession while my OC is trying to hold that grudge FOR DEAR LIFE and act cold but she just keeps on falling harder and the plan backfires on BOTH OF THEM

the song that keeps on playing that reminds me of this is Tenerife Sea by Ed Sheeran because just IMAGINE the lyrics are Pepe's thoughts as he watches the sunset with her like

childhood friends is such a good trope in general and i feel like it fits him so well 😭 like i looooove to imagine being friends with pepe before falling in love, it's so....... and it has been discussed on this blog before that pepe is so mutual pining coded (but also just him pining over the reader coded too) 🙃 idk i kinda love to think about him as kinda sky-ish when it comes to his feelings, not rlly sure what he's feeling or what to do about those feelings...

and omg their moms?? of course they are like that, i love them for doing that 😭 and god pepe with the mixed signals, im not surprised... and how could she not fall even harder for him when spending that much time with him and even pretending to be dating him........... and no don't talk about the sunset, you're making me so weak 😶 PLEASE tell me this will have a positive end because otherwise i will not sleep at night
