hey babe!! i have a qaf question for u
ok so ive heard ppl in this (very small) fandom talk abt hal sparks really negatively either because of his character (understandable, micheal sucks ass) or because of his political views/beliefs/whatevers
i have never understood the second part and was told that u are quite the qaf historian so i was wondering if u could give me a lil summary of what those beliefs/views of his are because i would really like to know!!
ty in advance 🖤
well hello there, nice to know that my reputation in qaf fandom is still alive and well lol
so. here's the thing: if we're talking politics overall he didn't say anything questionable as far as I know (he has a podcast on youtube or smth where he trashes trump and other republican politicians (I'm not american so my knowledge of american politics is pretty basic so don't quote me on this one lol) so it's fine with me lol)
if we're talking the show though 👀💀
he did say some things back in the day that made people dislike him (but mind you now everything is cool between everyone involved in the show at least public wise so we're going to talk about the times when the show was airing and some time after it ended)
1. the most questionable™️ thing that he's ever said was comparing kissing a man (a costar on screen) to kissing a dog and people thought he meant that it was disgusting or smth BUT he did clarify later that people misinterpreted him because he meant that he's not attracted to men so kissing male costars on set during filming did nothing for him (it was an answer to some interviewer's question what it's like to kiss a man so take it as it is 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️)
btw interviewers AND fans had no decorum back in the day asking the whole cast all sorts of personal questions (poor randy still has ptsd bc of this 😭💀)
2. now it's tea time!!!! hal used to have a beef with gale and randy that led to him being hated by their fans. so. before the show aired hal was the most famous actor in the cast (except for sharon gless obviously) and he thought (was promised ?????) that he'd be the lead man™️ of the show. but after qaf aired everyone fell for gale (obviously sorry not sorry lol) because he served and ate everyone up. and also everyone focused on britin. hal didn't like that (considering it was basically gale's and randy's first roles on tv) and he started saying some stuff about them (publicly). for example, he said that actors' work is doing what's written in the script no questions asked. that was a clear dig at gale and randy as they were famous for constantly questioning/criticising the writers/showrunners/producers, disliking their plotlines and basically voicing their opinions on set (they did nothing wrong, should've complained more, look at s5 🥲). also hal did say one time that he would never work with gale again but didn't elaborate why. and as far as I know he did say more shady stuff about gale and randy during different interviews but I don't have any more specific examples (i think he was also constantly pointing out that he's straight while gale didn't say much about his own sexuality and hal was speculating about it). moreover, I remember reading somwhere that hal didn't like people who drank/did drugs bc he himself was against this stuff and gale and peter smoke some weed before some s1 promotion event and hal had a problem with it. the last thing: he also did complain about gale staying in character (whatever that means in regards of gale) during filming but no one else complained so 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️.
(I lied last thing fr fr I wanted to point out that gale and randy NEVER said anything back about hal so that kinda makes you think)
hope this helps, if someone has something to add or wants to correct me, feel free to do so

basically my opinion of the dragons remake is that i kind of don’t care. well i hate it because i hate these remakes on principal, but also I can’t control it so it’s happening and i don’t like living angry and i don’t like spreading negativity in a rage-addicted culture if I can help it. I respect dean deblois for not wanting anyone else to touch his stuff lmao but I also can’t help but feel hurt.
however nothing can replace the original regardless how this new one turns out. it’s not like 2010 httyd and the amazing series it spawned is going anywhere. the remake is just a spinoff. a big budgeted and redundant af one yES but it’s not a black hole. i think a lot of my anger and anxiety is driven by this lowkey idea that 2010 httyd wasn’t good enough to immediately kill any ideas of touching/rebooting it, when the more obvious answer is, unfortunately in animation, the only reason the remake exists is BECAUSE the OG was so perfect, suits just wanna force that magic to happen again with minimal effort and copy disney. i’m sad my favorite movie got absorbed into this greed-driven model. but again, 2010 httyd is not going anywhere and i can watch it whenever i want.
i literally watched the trailer then went oh wait i don’t care, and went back to watching the httyd rtte tv show i’m still in mid-rewatch lol. i checked and my httyd DVDs did not evaporate into thin air. cool. i can focus instead on how much i still love the OGs and not on whatever i can’t control. and just pray someday soon i’ll get to see an original blockbuster on an IMAX screen again in my lifetime

hey, sorry to come out of nowhere with this, feel free to ignore! just wanted to get a bit of perspective on the c3 negativity i've been seeing for so long, which i've tried and failed to avoid and has been bumming me out more than i would like. this is my first campaign, it has brought me so much joy and company, but every time i end up reading a deeply negative take i can't really shake off the feeling that they're actually right, cause some of it makes sense to me and i can't unsee that. i know i'm being paranoid about it and truly setting myself up to be miserable and ruin the whole thing, which at this point i might've already done, but i just get sad wishing i could've had experienced the things everyone raves about (like different pacing and a lot of RP) for this campaign, which i'm so close to. do you think c3 is actually, objectively, worse or shallower than the previous ones? is there truth to the criticism (about it being too plot-driven, about the characters making each other worse and not being a good fit for this story, about the cast not being as into it and so on) or is the internet being the internet, and i should basically touch grass? it's not like i would drop it, honestly, i'm just sad thinking about how this story and these characters could've worked out if the "quality" was the one i keep seeing everyone talk about in regards to c1/c2. i know it's not that deep and it shouldn't matter in the long run, i'm just struggling a bit to not give in to the negativity and wanted to get your take on it, as someone's who's navigated this fandom longer! and again, truly sorry for the unprompted rant and thanks in general for being cool and taking the time to make gifs and recaps :)
you said it's brought you joy and company and it's seeing the negativity that's starting to ruin it, which is, honestly and sadly, a common thing that happens in online fandoms. negativity will bring the mood down regardless, because it just spirals into further misery. personally i stopped looking at fandom opinions and i've been a lot happier ever since! half the stuff you've said in here i've never heard before, that's how off the grid i am now lmao.
to answer your question, no, i don't think c3 is necessarily "worse" because, while people are entitled to their opinion, i think that's such a lazy, basic ass way of looking at it. also i just don't think a dnd game with people who are storytellers for a living can be shallow unless that's their goal, quite frankly. are there aspects of c3 i dislike? of course! but the same is true for all campaigns. there were parts of c2 i thought were very weak, despite the entire internet praising it like the second coming of jesus. there are things i think c3 does better than c2, even. and there are things c1 does better than both c2 and c3, and so on.
do i like that most of the campaign has been bells hells vs. a ticking clock? not really, it does mean certain sacrifices are made. do certain characters get on my last nerve? absolutely (but that's not exclusive to c3 lmao). at the same time though, i get the three women front and centre of the main plot, which has never happened before. i get a laura/marisha character romance after watching them have great chemistry for years. i get c1-level stakes and fantastic female npcs/villains, which c2 was mostly lacking. i get ashley full time (!!!) coming out of her shell and being her best and most chaotic self. and i get SO MUCH of the c1 characters? i'm fucking spoiled if you ask me.
maybe some of the criticism is very real and warranted (again, haven't seen it and don't plan to) but at the end of the day, this isn't my game of dnd or yours or any of the viewers'. we are literally watching other people play an improv game where they're crying one minute and making dick jokes the next, you just have to be along for the ride. going into the campaign with certain expectations is really silly and critiquing it the way you would a tv show just doesn't work. also unless these people are friends with the cast and speaking to them irl, how could they possibly know they aren't enjoying it as much like be serious 💀
i'm gonna be so honest here: idk if the people who are constantly spouting negativity are just miserable, but they sure look it! also stupid! why? because normal people who hate something simply ✨ stop watching and move on ✨. sure, hatewatching can be fun if you and your friends are in someone's living room or discord call shooting the shit, but doing it online day after day after day? honestly i just feel sorry for those people. happy people do not spend their time throwing essays worth of negativity up for the big wide world to see! how do i know this? because i was that person in my teens and i was severely unlikeable!
if you've enjoyed something without the bias of someone else's opinion, then you've enjoyed it! but your opinion can also change as the campaign goes, that can also be true! i would be interested to hear the reasons you loved it initially, because i think you'll find that most of that core stuff is present in all three campaigns.
the recent plot of c3 has been more stressful than any plot in previous campaigns, so understandably people have big feelings. my advice: the block button is your friend but so is the follow button! criticism is healthy, find people who deliver it in a way that's not some whiny entitled baby. letting someone else's opinion influence yours will never make you happy.

thank you for your service and common sense i cant believe some people think your negative when it’s just an opinion of yours
anyways question what do you think will happen with the episodes being cut down and the absolute production hell that has been happening cause clearly they don’t have their shit together even though there’s source material right in front of them
Let me address something right out of the gate, I haven't done any military service. I've just led a life that has had probably too many perilous adventures to count. However, I was trained in and taught the science of deduction by military vets ... so maybe some of them just rubbed off on me.
Anyway ...
Hey, it's no problem. And you're right people get mad all the time at opinions and theories.
Sometimes the people in the HOTD fandom take this shit way too serious.
Like someone in my Asks accused me of going nuclear when it turns out that A+C=D is not a thing. And, I have no earthly idea where they get that notion. If it turns out that Daeron has silver blonde hair like the rest of them, and is clearly Viserys kid ... I'm just gonna shrug and say "M'kay".
There's a thousand terrible things going on in my personal life. If they fuck up a TV Show I like ... I'm not going to cry about it. I'll be annoyed, probably a bit mad, but that's reserved for stuff that I think most people would be mad about too. Like assassinating characters or bad writing.
Anyway, to answer your question ...
I think that Season 2 will be incredibly inconsistent. As we learned, the HOTD Writers Room failed to meet the Studio deadline and so they hired the former showrunner and head writer of "The Crown" to come in and basically patch work Season 2 into a coherent narrative. Which means that it's going to be a quilt of different drafts of scripts put together by a last minute replacement that is not at all familiar with the characters or source material beyond what is in the Show Bible that he was provided.
So, I would assume that characters such as Alicent and Criston, Aemond and Aegon, will be quite different and some of them - like Aegon - will be a lot worse than before, because - once again - the studio script editor is a last minute hire that only has the show bible and Season 1 to work with.
So, I doubt seriously that we're gonna be able to really predict where the show is going to go or how true to the lore the characters are gonna stick, cause the entire Season was put together by someone who doesn't know anything about the ASoIaF Universe.

I love to read. I love stories.
I love books, games, movies, shows, anything that builds a genuine world, gives living characters, adds normal interactions etc.
So it always seemed obvious to me that as someone like that I would end up in fandoms and stuff like BookTok.
And I truly have to talk negatively about things because it hurts to sometimes admit flaws but as a storylover the last years of movies, TV Shows, books etc. have really started to feel so lack luster.
I could write essays about how storytelling, worldbuilding has become one of the lowest priorities when many projects nowadays start but I think there is also something to be said about the Fast Fashionisation of media because I am a victim of it just as I am a victim of brand buying sometimes.
The Fast Fashionisation of media is not only truly damaging stories in a lot of ways but I think people ignore how much off an effect all forms off media have on anyone, no matter their age but especially children.
Because I am someone of the "I learned languages through media" person and I feel like so much off the lose of knowledge, reduction of literacy, lose of interested in science etc. can be tracked directly back to the way media (most industries) have become a Fast Fashion brand and are essentially also using names.
What do I mean by this? We are getting movie after movie from big studies that seem like they have less and less effort put into them, baiting us by being part of x-franchise or in y-universe with z-big actor. Why do I hate this? Because a lot of movie feel like they aren't a story that is told but rather that one of these 3 bait factors was used to build a story around it. The story in itself is never a main focus of the movie, the worldbuilding is lacking because it is just expected that if it's x or y you will already know that "world" and if it's actor-bait, they just hope you are too busy ogling an actor (this isn't meant to shame because we all do sometimes!) to realise the complete lack of genuine story that is most movies.
When it comes to shows there is literally the Formula. Be a remake, a spinoff to some character, connect to some event of x-movie in y-universe, fit into the current in-categorie. Be based on some other past form of media, another season of some old show and that's it. I know people talk a lot about the homophobia because so many queer shows get cancelled but you will notice with these shows is that they don't fit into the "typical" TV Show formula and are actually trying something new so they will already be expected to be received worse and then if they don't at least met those expectations it's immediately over.
Booktok and smut/fanfiction has truly ruined the industry because 90% of books that will be promoted will just be promoted for sex scenes and romance when there is no substance in the entire story. You will have people throwing out this title and that and yet all the books are basically carbon copies with just slightly different featured main characters.
I think Games are the best of media genre right now because the scale of the others has not been reached yet. But I can already say, there is a noticeable bait with big franchise and remakes that will essentially be a carbon copy of the game before with genuinely no new features. I was so disappointed in Pokémon when I got my Switch because I adored Sword but hated the stupid Diamond remake. (Personal I know.) But I also think the gaming community is by far the biggest one influenced by fans which is why there is still many great stories out there. I think the main problem here is also that there isn't the promotion there used to be? Sure big Games from large companies will get ads but in my opinion many games used to rely on Let's Plays for attention especially from "bigger" creators. Since many creators have aged though and shifted their interests + are not uploading as frequently as before, there is less exposure to smaller games that are storybased and not mainstream.
I just think people don't understand the full effect this genuine fast fashion media will have on the population but especially the development of children and I could talk about this all day but yeah, I am going to cut myself off here to stop rambling.

Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus/Trials of Apollo (+ TV show + musical - movies):
We all call the author “uncle Rick,” which just makes it feel like a big family. We all mutually hate the movies, which I fall back on when my one friend says they’re good (I freaking-). There’s this one piece of crap character we all cheered when he died and are vengeful because he stabbed Percy’s stuffed animal.
This applies to Apollo kids because I consider myself one: healing manifests in all of us in one way or another. Because I don’t look or act like a stereotypical Apollo kid, I was iffy on this, but then I got in my brain that healing doesn’t just have to be physical.
Zoe Nightshade. Truth be told, I wasn’t overly attached to her because she was here for one book, but the sheer amount of heartbreaking fanarts I’ve seen and little fanfics of Calypso learning her sister died just before she got off of her island makes me just… die.
I do think it’s poetic how Leo (the seventh wheel) found love in someone who had been rejected by the greatest heroes of mythology. I don’t personally ship it because I wanted Leo’s arc to end with him coming back to CHB single and seeing how everyone truly cared for him even if it wasn’t romantically.
I will be honest, I don’t read fanfiction a ton, but I always like how Sally is an absolute angel in every single one. We Stan Sally Jackson.
This doesn’t just apply to PJO but the diversity and changes in the characters. I love Hispanic Percy and obviously with the show black Annabeth, but also little things like Apollo with brown hair and “stay hot!” Shades, and Nico with crutches.
Gosh, probably exploring the aspects of demigods that weren’t explored in the books. I don’t mean philosophical stuff, I mean a daughter of Poseidon that can cause earthquakes instead of control water, a child of Apollo who causes disease and attracts crows instead of healing. Thats always fun.
The Trials of Apollo series. Yup, all of it. I’ve seen so many people shun the series because they’re afraid of a certain character dying, or because it’s about Apollo himself. They’re missing out on the best character arc I’ve ever read because they’re scared.
Jason x Brick. True love. Piper can go to the sidelines.
@uni-amaly And my other nerd friends who aren’t on Tumblr.
HAH! So my friend made a demigod-writing template that was just for making little personas and now I’ve written 40 characters and the doc is over 100 pages long with plans for stories, oneshots, an overarching plot of overthrowing Olympus, and more.
Okay, thank you to EVERYBODY who watched the show and gave their opinion with LOGICAL REASONINGS. I’ve seen paragraphs of all different point of views on them and I have to say, while the fandom may be divided, I’m thrilled to see it instead of senseless yelling. The negative and positive views each have valid points and I love them.
Ooh… maybe Percy’s birthday? I’m honestly just pumped for summer itself. With the show… the show dates, I guess. Always nice to see the Empire State Building blue for our boy, though!
Percabeth. Yeah, I could’ve said Solangelo but it’s tainted by TSATS now. Legendary slow burn, honestly perfect. I adore it.
Apollo/Lester. My favorite overall is Nico but Apollo always brings a smile to my face. Whether imagining him singing or chilling in his chariot and waving at his kids, he’s a sunny guy who loves his ukuleles.
Nico went through Tartarus alone and survived. Yeah, I understand they didn’t show it but he DID IT. There was no Percy and Annabeth, there was one, 14-15 year old kid who went through the definition of psychotic insanity and made it through as a good person.
Blue food!
#Percyjackonandtheolympians or whatever the typo one was.
PJO/HOO/TOA, Heathers: the musical, Arcane, and Gravity Falls (plenty more but off the top of my head).
Gosh. I GUESS How to train your dragon but that was my childhood obsession. My real first nerd one was Star Wars. Very basic, I know.
Ninjago. Listen, the fanarts are top tier, alright? I like the fandom and the show too, even if I’m a bit farther away from it now. I have a lot to thank it for.
Jeez. Can’t say their name but I guess @uni-amaly I mean, they half forced me to read HOO at Godspeed to get to TOA so thanks… I guess.
Jeez, all the Minecraft SMPs, I suppose. Especially pirates.
back to PJO etc I guess: I mean, tons of writing, so many awesome convos with friends, happiness (literally pure happiness), an interest in mythology, gift ideas for friends, and of course feeling connected with the fandom because of the recent hype. Everything else I don’t have the words for too.
You don’t have to have an opinion! You can throw up your hands and say, “F it, we ball” and just love it without thinking analytically. And if you do have opinions, you can say them and people can be jerks and agree and debate politely and ignore you, but if that’s your opinion, then it’s yours. Just be nice and have common sense.

Luz, Amity, Vee, Collector, Belos
These are good questions!
Thanks for the ask! :)
Strap in, it's gonna be long!
Luz: What's the piece of media (tv show, movie, book etc) that's stuck with you the most?
It's 2 of them, The Owl House and Kingdom Hearts.
The first is obvious, you've seen my blog. I love this show so so much from any point and in every way! I love how wonderfully written it is, I love nearly all the characters, it is basically the golden standard I have for writing. And quite honestly, it makes me feel seen and at home. I relate to so many characters, Luz especially, and in so many ways it has helped me. By giving me a chance to embrace and bring out my silly side more, by giving me more passion for writing and something to look up to and by making me realize and accept some stuff about myself.
Kingdom Hearts was the very first piece of media I was officially obsessed with, and also my longest-lasting obsession. Though, I was too little to understand everything it was about at first, over time I've been so into all its crazy convoluted story, its wonderful and unique characters, the way it tackles its themes, the gameplay, literally everything!
Amity: Have you ever made a big change regarding your appearance? If yes, what was it and what motivated you to do it?
I have made quite a few changes over the years, mostly to my hair. I used to go to a private school as a kid that made us wear uniforms (terrible ones at that, every day I had to restrain myself from grabbing my dad's lighter and setting them on fire), so my hair was one of the few ways I could actually express myself and my style and that made me love experimenting with it. The biggest changes I made were these:
I cut my hair in a really really short bob when I was like 10, and was the only girl with short hair in class. It gave them more reason to tease me, but I didn't care at all. I loved this hairstyle, it reminded me of Kairi's, a character from kh.
When I was in high school I cut my hair in an asymmetrical way. I wanted something more unique.
After my hair got long again, I did dome yellow highlights. I wanted to do blue or purple but my mom would have an aneurysm.
Vee: If you could be anyone else who would you choose to be? (can be a fictional character or a real person)
I think I would be the character I relate to the most: Luz Noceda!
Collector: What was your favorite game as a kid?
Excluding video games, I think it was playing pretend. I remember rounding up my cousins and pretending we were anything and everything. We could be ninjas, keyblade wielders, pokemon trainers, witches and wizards, and we were always having a blast!
Belos: How easy is it for you to change your opinion on something (person, idea etc)?
That depends. If we're talking about ideas, opinions etc. I am pretty adamant, but if I feel something is off and/or I am presented with enough information that suggests I might be wrong, I am open to change my mind (that's how I broke free from a toxic mindset that was induced in me growing up).
For people it's a bit more complicated. If my opinion on a person is negative, I don't change my mind easily, especially if it's personal (i.e. they seriously hurt me pr someone I love). But if I see they're making earnest effort to get better, I can change my mind, even if it won't be in the blink of an eye.

Thoughts on Doom Patrol's Finale
Stayed up last night to finish Doom Patrol MAJOR SPOILERS:
I personally think it was the mostly perfect ending to this marvelously weird and amazing show. I legit bawled for a while. I did kinda get spoiled on Rita’s death, thank you TV Line for not thinking through your screenshot selection for headlines, but that didn't negatively impact how I reacted to it. I finally looked up what people were saying about it, and some people were massively disappointed, but it leaned mostly positive. I get that people are annoyed that the Immortus/Butt stuff got resolved so quickly and seemingly cheaply, but it's very on-brand for Doom Patrol to resolve their big baddie of the season with less of a big battle and more of a goofy fizzle. This has never been a battle-heavy big spectacle show. They did have battles and some spectacles, but overall it was always about the characters evolving, changing, fucking up, and trying to be better. And this was, by far, the most battle-y battle the show has ever had, even if they didn't get to really affect much, so I find it to be fine.
Ending it with Immortus being stopped by the butts singing Shipoopi and then her and them teaming up for a thousand year long musical tour is definitely not what I expected, but it was funny and very “Doom Patrol.” Plus, feeding her ego by giving her a thousand-year long successful music tour in the time stream is a rather good way of taking down that egotistical god-like brat. She demanded attention, so she got it. It’s not like it wasn’t established beforehand that the butts like musical theater like her as well. It didn’t really come entirely out of nowhere. The show just has a weird way of stitching things together sometimes.
There has never really been a time where this team has really vanquished a big threat, if you think about it. They were technically defeated by Mr. Nobody, and he only exited the show due to circumstance and ‘leaving to be on an animated show.’ Dorothy tamed the Candlemaker by giving him a talkin’ to. They didn’t stop the Eternal Flagellation – in fact, Rita did everything in her power to ensure it would happen. They didn’t beat the Bureau of Normalcy until Rouge decided to burn it to the ground. They kinda beat the giant rat and roach, but that’s only partially. Mr. Nobody moreso beat them by changing the narrative to force them into getting down and nasty.
The one big win I will give them is stopping the Decreator, but that also wasn’t a big battle or spectacle deal. Plus, it was also reliant on Mr. Nobody and Jane. The others didn’t have a big role in that.
That’s not to say they were never successful in what they tried to do, they obviously were, but when it came to taking down big bads, they didn’t really do that very often. If they suddenly started doing it now in a huge final battle spectacle, it would seem kinda weird, in my opinion. I also know people were upset with the Doom Patrol disbanding after they went through so much to become a true team and all that stuff about doing anything if they stick together....and yeah....I get that...But you also have to understand that another common theme in this show is that these people never wanted to be superheroes to begin with.
They constantly said they didn't want that, they weren't heroes, etc. They tried to be when they felt they had to or when they wanted to save someone they cared about, and sometimes they were quite heroic, but this was mostly just a group of people who had their humanity robbed of them. They basically holed themselves up in this manor because they felt they had nowhere else to go because no one would accept them, and their families were either estranged or dead.
The hero thing was mostly just forced on them through necessity due to Niles giving them powers, which everyone just assumes gives you the responsibility to use those powers for heroism, which isn’t really fair. Rita kinda pushed it on them because she decided that’s what she wanted and what she thought she was destined for. All Cliff wanted was a second chance with Clara and to be there for his grandson as long as he could. Leaving the manor and going to live with them allowed him to do that. I would say Cliff dying threw me off…..but I feel like it really didn’t. I had a slight feeling Rita would die (before I got spoiled) but I knew that even if Cliff got his longevity back his Parkinson's wouldn’t go away. The best I could hope for is that Immortus would be able to cure him or something, and that sounds like an even bigger cop-out.
It was also nice that Immortus gave him that crystal that allowed him to watch Rory grow up even if he couldn’t be present for his life. The fact that all of those major events happened in the car he fixed up for Clara and Rory is sweet as pie as well. Even if Rory will likely not really remember Cliff, it’s clear he’ll treasure that car and his memory. He keeps it at least until he’s old enough to be a grandpa, and that’s incredible. Even if Rory repeats some of Cliff’s mistakes, it’s clear he’ll be a better person, possibly because of Cliff to a degree. All Larry wanted was love while being honest with himself and to be a good father to Keeg. Him going off into space to become a star with Rama and Keeg allowed him to finally do that. Rama is such a perfect person for Larry in a lot of ways, and vice versa. Ending with him being a block of lead at the bottom of the ocean while Larry just kinda meanders and hopes he stumbles upon another gay/bisexual man with the ability to survive massive levels of radiation and doesn’t mind his disfigured appearance and accepts the radioactive energy child living in his chest doesn’t really sound like a happy ending. I would prefer if they were able to stay on Earth, but it’s quite beautiful and fitting with them as a star. (I know they said sun, but the sun is a star and I feel weird calling it a sun for some reason.)
All Jane wanted was to protect Kay, make her happy, and give them all some peace. In addition to allowing herself to love and be loved. Finding her peace in space with Casey (AND THEIR KITTY!) and starting a romance with her allowed her to do that. (Although, I will admit their relationship was a bit rushed. I was wondering what the heck happened to Shelley. She just kinda vanished after Jane was unable to kiss her that one time. I think she and Casey have a really cute dynamic, though. I like them together.)
Rita wanted to be a superhero, a better person, a leader, and a star. She got to be all those things, and she even got to have two families who loved her for who she was. She also got to fall in love after being afraid to be in a relationship, fearing she’d kill any guy she was intimate with. Like Rita said, she lived two lifetimes, which is far more than most people get. She was terribly miserable after Malcolm died, and allowing her stay dead and pass on allowed her to finally be with him.
If your love is confirmed to be in the afterlife and you attain immortality, that kinda sounds like hell. I do wonder how they’re able to be in the afterlife together because I thought they established that each afterlife was just for one person, but I’m not going to poke at that because I thought that was unfair BS to begin with.
Vic still wanted to be a hero, but on his own terms with his friends and family. He also wanted to make a difference in smaller communities and integrate more with other people instead of only being in the hero crowd. He got that. And I love that he got “tattoos” to represent the important people in his life.
Rouge…..Mmph. She wanted to be a better person and do good. But she also couldn’t let go of the bad part of herself. In that respect, I feel like her becoming an anti-hero of sorts and just burning down the Ant Farm was also perfectly suitable as an ending for her. I kinda wish she had been able to wind up staying alongside...someone, though. Loneliness is another big part of her character, but she winds up alone, for the most part. Rita’s dead, the Sisterhood hates her/is gone anyway, and the Doom Patrol is disbanded with most of their members either gone entirely like Larry, or dead, like Cliff. It’s particularly sad because the episode prior to this one had her literally beating herself up and declaring how much she hates herself and needs her friends, but then her friends all leave.
So, while it is sad for them to disband and basically say “Well, we’re fuck ups whose only accomplishments are very roughly cleaning up our fuckups, and we’re kinda toxic to each other while staying holed up in this house.” it does make sense. I don’t agree that they were really ‘toxic’ toxic, ya know? But I can totally see how the manor and the Doom Patrol as a whole were holding them back from spreading their wings and finding true happiness and contentment in life. Splitting off and living life on their own doesn’t negate how important they were to each other. If it wasn’t for each and every one of them, they never would have been ready to leave the nest, so to speak.
What really gets me there, though, is they will likely never see each other again. Rita’s dead, Cliff’s dead, Larry’s a star. I guess Vic and Rouge can still meet up, and Jane might come back from space sometime, but that’s about it. If it was just them deciding to split up, you could find solace in the fact that they could reconnect someday, but that clearly won’t happen here. That’s just a personal gripe, though. As long as they’re happy, I’m happy for them.
I really did want to see Mr. Nobody just once more before the series ended – he’s just such an amazing character and so much fun – but you can’t have everything I suppose.
So, yeah, I am perfectly content with this being the finale of the show. I think it’s one of the best TV show finales I’ve seen in a long time. Farewell, Doom Patrol, my flawed, lovable, hilarious, fuckups who wormed into my heart with some of the most ridiculous and beautiful insanity put to screen.

Note
I occasionally get asks requesting that I analyze/critique very specific fan content and it's so weird. My policy - as stated in my pinned post - is the same as Jacques'. I am not here to fight with or critique other fans. I'm here to have fun analyzing a bad TV show. The first is bullying. The second is not.
You guys do understand the difference between punching up and punching down right? That dunking on a multi-billion dollar commercial property is massively different from dunking on a small-time creator who makes very little or no money off of the work that they're sharing for free? It doesn't matter how bad something is, just because something is out in the public sphere doesn't mean that public criticism is appropriate. There's also a huge difference between critiquing a fan theory that's pervaded the fandom and critiquing a specific person's theory/take.
This is why you'll only see me reblog fan content that I agree with, people who directly responded to my stuff/send me an ask, or things that come from official sources. That last category is always reblogged with no comments or neutral comments because it's posted by a fan, not an official source, so I'm saving it for reference and will give my negative opinions on a post that isn't directly linked to the fan's activity feed unless their original post made it clear that they were also negatively inclined to whatever they posted.
The only exception to the above is if the ask is complementing another fan in a way I agree with (ex: I loved the way X talked about this and it matched the issue you brought up in Z post, but is there a way to fix this?) That's not bullying. That's a positive and appropriate interaction. So long as that's the approach you're taking, you're probably fine. Don't overthink it. I can always just ignore your ask if it crosses my boundaries.
I'll also point out that, while it's fine to critique commercial properties, it's really not okay to send that critique to those involved with the property unless they're directly inviting it. Sending uninvited critique to a creator is always rude and incredibly arrogant no matter how successful they are. They didn't ask for your feedback, so don't give it to them. Share it with that property's fandom and have fun! You're not going to fix Miraculous by harassing the writers on the website formally known as Twitter.
Basically, have manners people! And also remember that I'm a person with a life who does this for fun and for free. Sending me a YouTube video and asking me to watch it then give feedback is wildly inappropriate on multiple levels.
But like, do you really purposely ignore fanart that has Adrien in it?
Why is this what you’re all so fixated on? (not just you, I’ve been getting other asks about this)
If I like an art, I will reblog it
If someone specifically links me to art (or any other fan work really) unprompted and puts me on the spot to give my opinion on it, regardless of whether I like it or not, I will not respond to it
I’ve said it before regarding someone asking for my opinion on another blog’s essay, I do not want to directly critique fan content. If I organically happen to come across fan content that I do feel like critiquing, I will do so in a vague manner and not name any urls so as to not put the creator in a position where they’re in any way pressured to respond or defend themselves. Quite frankly, the only reason I recently posted that one ask with a link to a video essay on it was bc I was too lazy at the moment to screenshot and blur out the link and make a separate post to notify y’all that I do not go anywhere near ML yt and don’t plan to anytime soon.
So no, I do not go out of my way to ignore art of specific characters, I just don’t appreciate being pushed to interact with it

disability in the Six Of Crows Duology; an analysis of Kaz Brekker, Wylan Van Eck, and the fandom’s treatment of them.
****Note: I originally wrote this for a tiktok series, which im still going to do, but i wanted to post here as well bc tumblr is major contributor to what im going to talk about
CW: ableism, filicide, abuse
In the Six of Crows duology, Leigh Bardugo delicately subverts and melds harmful disability tropes into her narrative, unpacking them in a way that I, as a disabled person, found immensely refreshing and…. just brilliant.
But what did you all do with that? Well, you fucked it up. Instead of critically looking at the characters, y’all just chose to be ableist.
For the next few videos paragraphs im going to unpack disability theory (largely the stuff surrounding media, for obvious reasons) and how it relates to Six Of Crows and the characterization of Kaz Brekker and Wylan Van Eck, then how, despite their brilliant writing, y’all completely overlooked the actual text and continuously revert them to ableist cariactures.
Disclaimer: 1. Shocker - i am disabled. I have also extensively researched disability theory and am very active in the disabled community. Basically, I know my shit. 2. im going to be mad in these videos this analysis. Because the way y’all have been acting has been going on for a long ass time and im fuckin sick of it. I don’t give a shit about non-disabled feelings, die mad
Firstly, I’m going to discuss Kaz, his play on the stereotypical “mean cripple” trope and how Bardugo subverts it, his cane, and disabled rage. Then, I am going to discuss Wylan, the “inspiration porn” stereotype, caregivers / parents, and the social model of disability. Finally, I will then explain the problems in the fandom from my perspective as a disabled person, largely when it comes to wylan, bc yall cant leave that boy tf alone.
Kaz Brekker
Think of a character who uses a cane (obviously not Kaz). Now, are they evil, dubiously moral, or just an asshole in general? Because nearly example I can think of is: whether it be Lots’O from Toy Story, Lucius Malfoy, or even Scrooge and Mr.Gold from Once Upon A Time all have canes (the last two even having their canes appear less and less as they become better people)
The mean/evil cripple trope is far more common than you would think. Villains with different bodies are confined to the role of “evil”. To quote TV Tropes, who I think did a brilliant job on explaining it “The first is rooted in eugenics-based ideas linking disability or other physical deformities with a "natural" predisposition towards madness, criminality, vice, etc. The Rule of Symbolism is often at work here, since a "crippled" body can be used to represent a "crippled" soul — and indeed, a disabled villain is usually put in contrast to a morally upright and physically "perfect" hero. Whether consciously on the part of the writer or not, this can reinforce cultural ideas of disability making a person inherently inferior or negative, much in the same way the Sissy Villain or Depraved Homosexual trope associate sexual and gender nonconformity with evil. ”
Our introduction to Kaz affirms this notion of him being bad or morally bankrupt, with “Kaz Brekker didn’t need a reason”, etc. This mythologized version of himself, the “bastard of the barrel” actively fed into this misconception. But, as we the audience are privy to his inner thoughts, know that he is just a teenager like every other Crow. He is complex, his disability isn’t this tragic backstory, he just fell off a roof. It’s not his main motivation, nor does he curse revenge for making him a cripple - it is just another part of who he is.
His cane (though the shows version fills me with rage but-) is an extension of Kaz - he fights with it, but it has a purpose. Another common thing in media is for canes to be simply accessories, but while Kaz’ cane is fashionable, it has purpose.
The quote “There was no part of him that was not broken, that had not healed wrong and there was no part of him that was not stronger for having been broken.” is so fucking powerful. Kaz does not want nor need a cure - its said in Crooked Kingdom that his leg could most likely be healed, but he chooses not to. Abled-bodied people tend to dismiss this thought as Kaz being stubborn but it shows a reality of acceptance of his disability that is just, so refreshing.
In chapter 22 of SOC, we see disabled rage done right - when he is called a cripple by the Fjerdan inmate, Kaz is pissed - the important detail being that he is pissed at the Fjerdan, at society for ableism, not blaming it on being disabled or wishing he could be normal. He takes action, dislocating the asshole’s shoulder and proving to him, and to a lesser extent, himself, that he is just as capable as anyone else, not in spite of, but because he is disabled. And that is the point of Kaz, harking back to the line that “there was no part of him that was not stronger for having been broken”.
I cried on numerous occasions while reading the SOC duology, but the parts I highlighted in this section especially so. I, as many other disabled people do, have had a long and tumultuous relationship with our disability/es, and for many still struggle. But Kaz Brekker gave me an empowered disabled character who accepts themselves, and that means the world to me.
Keeping that in mind, I hope you can understand why it hurts so much to disabled people when you either erase Kaz’s disability (whether through cosplay or fanfiction), or portray him as a “broken boy uwu”, especially implying that he would want a cure. That flies in the face of canon and is inherently fucking ableist. (if u think im mad wait until the next section)
Next, we have Wylan.
Oh fucking boy.
I love Wylan so fucking much, and y’all just do not seem to understand his character? Like at all? Since this is disability-centric, I’m not going to discuss how the intersection of his queerness also contributes to these issues, but trust me when I say it’s a contributing factor to what i'm going to say.
Wylan, motherfucking Van Eck. If you ableist pricks don’t take ur fucking hands off him right now im going to fight you. I see Wylan as a subversion another, and in my opinion more insidious stereotype pf disabled people - inspiration porn.
Cara Liebowitz in a 2015 article on the blog The Body Is Not An Apology explains in greater detail how inspiration porn is impactful in real life, but media is a major contributing factor to this reality. The technical definition is “the portrayal of people with disabilities as inspirational solely or in part on the basis of their disability” - but that does not cover it fully.
Inspiration porn does lasting damage on the disabled community as it implies that disability is a negative that you need to “overcome” or “triumph” instead of something one can feel proud of. It exploits disabled people for the development of non-disabled people, and in media often the white male protagonist. Framing disability as inherently negative perpetuates ideals of eugenics and cures - see Autism $peaks’ “I Am Autism” ad. Inspiration porn is also incredibly patronizing as it implies that we cannot take care of ourselves, or do things like non-disabled people do. Because i stg some of you tend to think that we just sit around all day wishing we weren’t disabled.
Another important theory ideal that is necessary when thinking about Wylan is the experience of feeling like a burden simply for needing help or accommodations. This is especially true when it comes to familial relationships, and internalized ableism.
The rhetoric that Wylan’s father drilled into his head, that he is “defective”, “a mistake”, and “needs to be corrected”, that he (Jan) was “cursed with a moron for a child” is a long held belief that disabled people hear relentlessly. And while many see Van Eck’s attempted murder of Wylan as “preposturous” and overall something that you would never think happens today - filicide (a parent murdering their child) is more common than you would like to believe. Without even mentioning the countless and often unreported deaths of disabled people due to lack of / insufficient / neglectful medical care, in a study on children who died from the result of household abuse, 40 of 42 of them (95%) were diagnosed with disabilities. Van Eck is not some caricature of ableist ideals - he is a real reflection on how many people and family members view disability.
Circling back to how Wylan unpacks the inspiration porn trope - he is 3 dimensional, he is not only used to develop the other characters, he is just *chefs kiss* Leigh, imo, put so much love and care into the creation of Wylan and his story and character growth that is representative of a larger feeling in the disabled community.
That being said, what you non-disabled motherfuckers have done to him.
The “haha Wylan can’t read” jokes aren’t and were not funny. Y’all literally boiled down everything Wylan is to him being dyslexic. And it’s like,,,, the only thing you can say about him. You ignore every other part of him other than his disability, and then mock him for it. There’s so much you can say about Wylan - simping for Jesper, being band kid and playing the fuckin flute, literally anything else. But no, you just chose to mock his disability, excellent fucking job!
Next up on “ableds stfu” - infantilization! y’all are so fucking condescending to Wylan, and treat him like a fucking toddler. And while partly it is due to his sexuality i think a larger portion is him being disabled. Its in the same vein of people who think that Wylan and Jesper are romantically one sided, and that Jesper only kind of liked Wylan, despite the canon evidence of him loving Wylan just as much. You all view him as a “smol bean”, who needs protecting, and care, when Wylan is the opposite of that. He is a fucking demolitions expert who suggested waking up sleeping men to kill them - what about that says “uwu”. You are treating Wylan as a burden to Jesper and the other Crows when he is an immensely valuable, fully autonomous disabled person - you all just view him as damaged.
And before I get a comment saying that “uhhh Wylan isn’t real why do you care” while Wylan may not be real, how you all view him and treat him has real fucking impacts and informs how you treat people like me. If someone called me an “uwu baby boy” they’d get a fist square in the fucking jaw. Fiction informs how we perceive the world and y’all are making it super fucking clear how you see disabled people.
Finally, I wanted to talk about how the social model of disability is portrayed through Wylan. For those who are unaware, the social model of disability contrasts the medical model, that views the disability itself as the problem, that needs to be cured, whereas the social model essentially boils down to creating an accommodating society, where disability acceptance and pride is the goal. And we see this with Wylan - he is able to manage his father’s estate, with Jesper’s assistance to help him read documents. And this is not out of pity or charity, but an act of love. It is not portrayed as this almighty act for Jesper to play saviour, just a given, which is incredibly important to show, especially for someone who has been abused by family for his disability like Wylan, that he is accepted.
Yet, I still see people hold up Jesper on a pedestal for “putting up with” Wylan, as if loving a disabled person deserves a fucking pat on the back. It’s genuinely exhausting trying to engage with a work I love so much with a fandom that thinks so little of me and my community. It fucking shows.
Overall, Leigh Bardugo as a disabled person wrote two incredibly meticulous and empowered disabled characters, and due to either lack of reading comprehension, ableism, or a quirky mix of both, the fandom has ignored canon and the experiences of disabled people for…. shits and giggles i guess. And yes, there are issues with the Grishaverse and disability representation - while I haven’t finished them yet so I do not have an opinion on it, people have been discussing issues in the KOS duology with ableist ideals. This mini series was no way indicative of the entire disabled experience, nor does it represent my entire view on the representation as a whole. These things need to be met critically in our community, and talked about with disabled voices at the forefront. For example, the limited perspective we get of Wylan and Kaz being both white men, does not account for a large portion of the disabled community and the intersection of multiple identities.
All-in-all, Critique media, but do not forget to also critique fandom spaces. Alternatively, just shut the fuck up :)
happy fucking disability pride month, ig

I have sort of a policy not to publish too much fandom wank but I got an anon I want to address; I hope you know who you are! I just wanna say a couple things about it.
TWO THINGS CAN BOTH BE TRUE AT ONCE:
It is responsible to curate your social media experience, and you should block/mute blogs who make you uncomfortable for your own safety. If anyone wants to block me because they don’t like stuff that I write or ship or post about, please feel free! I don’t care, I’m trying to have a fun time and I want everyone else to have a fun time, and your fun time might mean staying away from me. I respect that 100%! I am an adult, I know that not everyone is going to like me. It is okay!!!!
Fandom antis are notoriously conservatives & radfems/TERFs who are not creative and have nothing to contribute to their fandoms aside from negativity and their own attention seeking. It’s one thing to spread information about a genuinely dangerous person who causes actual harm to real people, and another thing to posture & grandstand about your superior morals while you try to condemn people for thought crimes.
To answer your question: [TLDR] Antis are a cult.
I wrote a post about this last summer too, about the general vibe on Tumblr and how the echochamber of sensitive conservatives and teens trapped unknowingly in the TERF pipeline has contributed really negatively to the fandom experience here, especially after Tumblr banned adult content and effectively drove adults away. (Not to mention heavily queer & sex-positive adults, and sex workers, and NSFW artists, etc). I think some people who stayed saw it as sort of a win for their holy war and it unfortunately made them even more obnoxious. And like if Tumblr wants to be that space for fandom conservatives & respectability politics, cool! Have fun. It’s just also unfortunate that the corporatization of the internet is pushing transgressive independent content to weirder and weirder corners and destroying our communities over and over. Fingers crossed we find a better home soon.
I’ve seen the thing you mentioned and I’m not bothered by it. I think it’s worth questioning the sincerity of these people’s beliefs when you find them in the wild, though, like for example if someone posts that I’m a dangerous creep, I wonder if that person has a history of targeted & vicious harassment and borderline stalking to try to find receipts of my being a dangerous creep. At some point, I gotta ask: Which one of us is actually the fuckign creep here lmfao
I would also ask how often the fandom police claim to be paragons of empathy and morality whilst simultaneously dogpiling people they don’t like and weaponizing ableism and queerphobia to do it. It might be worth it to ask how often one’s mask slips and how quickly they devolve into making serious real life accusations against people for something as ridiculous as a difference of opinion about a TV show. I’d ask if the most vitriolic, nasty, self-superior antagonists in a fandom realize that their AO3 bookmarks & Twitter likes are public and we know that they like noncon as much as everyone else.
Tumblr media
Everyone is welcome to block & mute as needed and everyone SHOULD. It is YOUR responsibility to take care of yourself online, this is extremely basic internet safety and entry level maturity. If an artist or a writer makes something that you don’t like, you can block them. No need to create a campaign against them, especially when it’s founded on absolute horseshit LMAO. It costs nothing to stay in your lane and behave like a fucking human.
But yeah I’ve been in and out of this fandom like FOR MY WHOLE LIFE HAHA and I’ve never seen it as bad as it is now. And that’s such a bummer. I’ve never had to block people in this fandom until very recently and it was all cases of dogpiling & using ableism to pick on people. It’s really nasty and I think it’s just a really unfortunate perfect storm of Tumblr’s downfall and the absolute trashfire that this TV show was LMAO. But we predicted this years ago, when the show was first announced, that Tumblr & Gen Z wouldn’t be able to cope with the dark topics and would try to create a crusade about who’s consuming the content in the most God Honoring way. The show asks a lot of difficult questions (the way the books do!) and I think it’s incompatible with black & white Tumblr Thinking. It makes people uncomfortable and they tend to lash out at others instead of getting their own houses in order.
Having said that, I keep my follow list pretty small and I have the conservatives muted. I have a perfectly pleasant quiet time and I encourage people to do the same. Curate your dash!
My role in this fandom has ALWAYS been as a porn writer. It’s what I showed up here doing. And like, if someone really wants to believe that I’m a predator for writing stories about a 500 year old who does not exist and cannot be victimized, idk man. That’s certainly a position to take and they’re welcome to it. I’m not interested in arguing about it.  It’s just, yknow. Accusing random strangers online of serious real world crime because they don’t like your TV show, or enjoy a gross book, or wrote porn that you don't like, is such unhinged cult victim behavior I just cannot take it seriously.
So idk, it’s fine if they block me or anyone else. I prefer that. I'll block them first if they seem like fascist conservative bullies. You probably don’t want to hang out with people who think that way, anyway. Find your people ! Find rational adults! Find generous creatives! These clowns are definitely NOT that.

So a lot of people around me have noted that phase 4 of the MCU isn’t hitting as hard for them and how nothing is really standing out on its own anymore and they’re becoming uninterested in watching the new stuff but feel they have to watch it to understand anything MCU related going forward and tbh I agree completely.
Like as someone who was super into Marvel movies and religiously watched them up until The Winter Solider (since then I’ve seen Jessica Jones, Ragnarok, Black Panther, Infinity War/Endgame and the first two Holland Spiderman movies once each for reference), it’s reached a point where watching new Marvel projects is too exhausting for me,
Like I can understand direct sequels needing the first one to understand/enjoy it (Infinity War/Endgame etc), but I do not have the time, patience or want to watch 45 other projects in a specific order just to understand the newest movie or tv show out. And tbh I think that’s why media including Black Panther, Jessica Jones (particularly season 1), the first two Holland Spiderman movies and the early MCU movies (Thor, Iron Man etc) are among favourites among the everyday people, because on the most part they work just as good as a solo piece of media as they do in the MCU which cannot be said about most of it nowadays tbh.
Basically what I’m saying is what was once a fun “Hey our faves are going to be in the same movie!!!!” idea has, in my opinion, negatively effected and diminished nearly all of these projects because it’s become the main feature to the point that you can’t just go in and enjoy the movie without days worth of effort anymore.

Ok I’ll admit what’s been making me anxious. I do think disorienting is the right word bc I’m glad everyone is having fun with the clones but it’s just. Sometimes it feels like the things I made that accompany the silly clone stuff like. The things I wrote don’t matter? (And like. I say accompany the silly clone stuff but like Almost and everything after like is basically the source for j2 and subsequent personalities) and like I get having hostile to ambivalent feelings towards source material or an author and just enjoying posting abt the characters I do it all the time. But like. This isn’t a random tv show I’m not the SPN writers, I consider you guys my friends on some level and idk I’m not entitled to anyone’s time but I’m also not a random author we’re all pals? Sometimes I feel like I’m being ignored the way i would fucking ignore like. Kodaka’s opinions on DR. Which I know sucks as a comparison bc I’m just one person writing fanfic for a property that already exists like I don’t have ownership. It’s. Just. weird and confusing sometimes seeing you guys engage in the clone stuff and sometimes not even know if you’ve engaged in things I made that are like, the source of it bc you’ve never given me any real indication of that. It’s disorienting! It’s not about the numbers I promise (bc it’s like what numbers there’s 12 of us) I don’t care abt comments I’m just. Confused. Like. Talk to me. That’s all I really want. And like. I care when ppl like my art. Maybe that’s self involved but I want ppl to like things I make
I feel like I’m being so ungrateful whenever I express a negative sentiment about any of this. And I’m so so glad we’re having this playground of fun thank you everyone for humoring me on this silly make believe clone journey. I guess maybe seeing everyone having so much fun with it, it should be self evident you guys like me and my stupid contributions to the circle of perverts but it’s just been something very confusing and new to deal with. Does any of that make sense
And like. Idk feel free to tell me if I’m out of pocket I do care about that. I don’t want to be an entitled asshole. Or maybe I’ve just got this all wrong
I mean this with zero shame at all I mean it so sincerely please spend your time however nor do any of you have an obligation to me or what I make but because we’re all in on this goofy fandom experiment of playing with the clones that I honestly love and am having the time of my life in I will say it is very very confusing for me to keep track of what you guys know abt the clones through comedy cloneposting and what you guys know through content I’ve actually written and it has become very funny and slightly disorienting

I really like what you said the other day in response to someone who mistakenly thought Asami was white. I do have some comments on another part of her identity you mentioned in that response. Hear me out, but I don't think that it is fair to say Asami is not a lesbian. She could be. She could also be bi or pan.
Lots of lesbians date men before coming out. This is due to compulsory heterosexuality or comphet which basically means societal pressures makes women feel compelled to be attracted to men. Yes, the society in Avatar is different. However, in Turf Wars it is explained that homophobia does exist in this world, so it would make sense that people would be closetted or take longer to figure things out. In the comic, Asami is also nervous to tell Korra's parents about their relationship because of this homophobia. Kya even explains that the fire nation is the most homophobic of the nations. The fire nation helped form Republic City and Asami is ethnically fire nation. Therefore, this influence would definitely be present in her life which could make her feel compelled to date men.
I'm not saying that Korra or Asami are definitely lesbians, but they could be. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's never explicitly stated if they are lesbians or bisexuals in Avatar or any real world official media. Therefore, they could be either of them. If a lesbian sees some of themselves in the characters and projects their identity a little bit, there is nothing wrong with that. If a bisexual sees some of themselves in the characters and projects their identity a little bit, there is nothing wrong with that. I don't think it's erasure to say that they could be either, but it is erasure to say they can't be one of them.
I'm a transgender lesbian. I strongly identity with most of Korra's traits. We have very similar, flaws and strengths. She feels like the only person I have ever identified with in media. One of the many ways I relate to Korra is her roamances. One time I dated one of my best friends, a straight man. At first I was head over heels and extremely excited. I saw a future with us. After several months I kept saying stuff like, "This part of our relationship would be better if I was with a woman," and stuff like that. Just like Korra in season 2, I started getting angry at him very easily, sometimes over nothing. We love board games, but couldn't finish one without someone getting pissy. I eventually realized that I couldn't do this anymore and I told him I made a mistake and that I'm not attracted to men. We are still very good friends and if I could be attracted to men, he would be the perfect boyfriend for me. Sometimes I think Korra is a lesbian like me. Sometimes, I think she's bi and just Makko wasn't a good fit. Either way is a perfectly fine way to think about it. No matter what, she is a badass sapphic and I'm glad we can all be inspired by her in some way.
Hey first off, I want to thank you for sending this and being really awesome about the way you've approached this. You don't always see it on tumblr, so it's much appreciated!
There's a lot you've said, so instead of responding completely line for line, I'm just going to write my complete opinion about this and hopefully it makes sense.
Bryke had made two official statements after the airing of the show, none that overtly say that they are bisexual, but it is heavily implied, especially in Bryan's statement which is the first post linked (x)(x). As quoted by Bryan, "Despite what you might have heard, bisexual people are real!"
Comphet is a legitimate issue in the world today, but I personally never got that feeling from Korra or Asami (through the series or comics). I believed that their relationships with Mako were genuine and it just didn't work out (all of them being the issue, not just Mako, lol). But again, that is my own personal viewpoint.
Erasure is the thing that I want to tackle most and hopefully I can do that cohesively and in an understandable way. The idea of labeling and identities on a personal standpoint is fluid and is on a spectrum. As a person, you don't need to label yourself or you can label yourself if you'd like, you can be as you are and that's okay. Personally, I identify as Queer because Bisexual does fit me, but just not completely in the way I'd like it to. Pan doesn't fit quite right, neither does Lesbian. So, thus I label myself as Queer leaning towards Bisexual tendencies.
But this idea and concept of labeling is very different when it comes to media and it's not focused on a real life person and their experiences. Labeling in media is important and that is because of positive representation in society. Often times, bisexual characters are portrayed in negative ways, so when there is positive portrayal and representation, this is important to the nth degree. Korra and Asami also weren't just side characters, they were main characters. So to have a clearly positive portrayal of bisexual characters on a mainstream show, that was huge. On top of this, this was a children's show, so to be a little kid or even someone older, finally seeing someone that is like you would be a significant moment in your life. This is honestly another reason why I love Korrasami so much, because of my own struggles with identity.
This all can be countered with the idea that they're lesbians and wouldn't that be good representation too? Yes, it would be, but it also wouldn't be as significant when taking into account all of TV/Film media.
If we breakdown and take in all of the positive representation of Lesbians vs Bisexuals, it would be more significant for them to be bisexual in a time where there was little to no good bisexual representation. In 2013 '64.7 percent of inclusive films included gay male characters. 23.5 percent included lesbian characters, and 17.7 percent contained bisexual characters.' Presently, on cable TV 34% of regular and recurring LGBTQ characters were lesbian and 18% of regular and recurring LGBTQ characters were bisexual. On streaming, lesbian representation makes up 28% and bisexual representation makes up 19%. These numbers don't even break down if it's positive representation either! So again, although real life sexuality is fluid or can be on a spectrum, media labeling is more rigid and representative of a specific area. Making it extremely significant and influential when there is a character labeled a specific way, bisexual in this case.
To this day, people still deny that bisexual people exist. Often times the debate is whether a person is gay or straight, but nothing more. So erasure is a big deal and claiming that Korra or Asami are lesbians can be detrimental in ways that people may not have thought of at first. People can obviously identify with a character and feel attachment to them, but there is no reason to not feel that attachment if their sexual orientation may differ from your own.

Miscellaneous Zombieman, Metal Bat, and Garou Headcanons:
Zombieman:
Does not wear mitts when taking shit out of the oven because burns mean nothing to him. It’s a useless investment when you can scarcely feel pain and recover from every injury imaginable.
Drinks even though he can’t get drunk. Likes beer for the taste.
Feeds the stray cats whatever food he doesn’t eat. Has a habit of cooking too much for himself.
Even though he’s Zombieman and can regenerate pretty much anything, he still has to get any debris out of his body because it’s really uncomfortable to just leave it in there. Keeps a surgeon kit on hand at home, takes any pieces out of him in the shower, and has acquired a very basic knowledge on human anatomy from this.
Keeps a gun in the shower because paranoia + negative wisdom is a deadly combination.
Does not vibe with the concept of authority and will treat all of his higher-ups like he treats an acquaintance. He doesn’t go out of his way to be disrespectful or anything, but he wouldn’t be caught dead kissing anyone’s ass either.
He’s not the guy you want to talk to when managing money. He has not filed his taxes since the nineties.
Keeps a card on him that lets security know he has metal implants in his body whenever he needs to step through a detector. Makes up a different story each time (steel aorta, brain implant, metal kneecap, etc.), when it’s literally just the stupid gun he keeps in his chest.
Metal Bat (Badd):
Probably one of the most normal people in the S-Class, in my opinion. Like he’s still very unique as a person but in terms of the life he lives, it’s pretty much just ordinary.
Likes horror gore fest movies. Hates blood in real life but finds comfort in having the control to see it onscreen or not. Sort of like a coping mechanism, but he’s also just liked stuff like that since he was a kid.
Very into the giant robot sub-genre of cartoons and anime (Voltron, Gundam, Transformers, etc.). Basically just any cheesy 80s cartoon or movie. He’s very interested in the idea of the “perfect hero” as it’s portrayed in most of this media and often holds himself to that ideal, although naively.
Is a very patient person when he wants to be. He can be very pissed off but also extremely kind and understanding. He’s smart enough to assess whatever situation he’s in and apply the best parts of himself to it, which makes him very adaptable.
Has ADHD, is unmedicated. Suffers in school because of this.
Has been prescribed medication for anger and depression but never takes it unless he’s having a seriously bad time.
T-shirt and jeans are his default outfit choice when not in uniform. Has an unholy amount of graphic tees and Levi’s that he’s accumulated over the years.
Loves listening to heavy metal.
Garou:
Is allergic to cats. Hates Tama because of this.
Also lactose intolerant.
Eats a lot in one sitting because it’s a survival mechanism. He stockpiles calories because, for the longest time, he wouldn’t know where his next meal would be coming from. It takes him a while to unlearn this behavior once he’s in a steady home life.
Hates being touched. Some part of him always interprets it as an attack. Also another behavior that takes him a while to unlearn once he’s in a safe environment.
His hair SUCKS and it literally has the texture of dried grass.
Silverfang used to keep an old TV and VHS player around for the kids in his dojo, and Garou would watch all the tapes over and over until they wore out. His favorite show as a kid was Thundercats.
Is straight up the most awkward dude on the planet once he’s not trying to kill anybody.
Actually not helpless when it comes to cleaning, cooking, and maintaining a home because those are all skills Silverfang would’ve taught him at the dojo. He’s a decent homemaker when he has an incentive to be.
Sucks at video games because he’s never played them in his life.
Does not understand a lot of pop culture references due to him being a recluse for most of his life, both socially and physically.
