One of the funniest/dumbest literal thinking autism moments of my childhood happened when I was in 2nd grade. I was going to a new school so I was made to do a bunch of assessments to see where I placed in different subjects. I was most excited for the reading one cuz at my old school I was the best reader in my class, and I wanted to show off.

The lady testing me hands me this little short story and asks me to read it aloud.

And for some reason that I still don't understand to this day, a bunch of the words randomly had like lines or dots above the vowels. Which idk seems like an unnecessary and confusing thing to include when testing a 7 year old. Like you're gaslighting them into thinking theres extra letters in the alphabet. So obvi I ask what the symbols mean cuz I've never seen them in this context. She sorta brushes me off and says, word for word, "those mean you just say the letters name"

What she undoubtedly meant was: "on those words, the letter highlighted will sound like what its called. O with the line sounds O and not uh or ew or whatever"

What I understood was "Just Say the Letters Name"

So anyways i proceeded to read the story aloud, stopping suddenly every other word to pause cuz I wasnt supposed to say bow i was supposed to say o. I know for a fact at one point I just said a word and then stopped and repeated the sentence with just the letter so she HAD to've known I'd misunderstood her. But she said absolutely nothing. I remember walking outta there feeling like a complete idiot, and feeling so embarrassed when later they told my mom my reading skills were an entire grade behind where I should've been. But also looking back at it like wtf how could theyve possibly gotten an accurate understanding of my reading ability under those conditions.

But saying that Sasha does side-eye the door knob heavily when Maffhew goes over to close it the first time and he starts sweating like he just got dragged into a game of 7 Minutes in Heaven he did not sign up for and he's 13 again and oh god he got paired with a really cute girl, and he hasn't even had his first real kiss yet and-

And then absolutely nothing happens because Maffhew is just waiting with a polite expectant smile (because his work here is done, he did the heavy lifting know it's Sasha's turn) and this is when Sasha's dynamic classes training kicks in and he basically scolds himself for even assuming in the first place because this is clearly a show of trust (correct) not an invitation for extra circular activities (incorrect buzzer noise) and it basically becomes "This Omega really trusts me, I'm honoured especially as Pack Leader that I'm able to be so accepted into such a private space with the inherent knowledge that I will not encroach their boundaries whatsoever because consent is verbal, this is not in any way an invitation to take advantage of them this is deep platonic trust I will guard with my life :]"

and if you listen closely you can hear the lovely sounds of Maffhew bashing his head into a wall about how much of a gentleman Sasha is but also COME ONNNNNN... you know... once Maffhew realises what's happening which (looks at my watch) is not due for another few months really

And if you think it's an Oh! An overseas dynamic thing! It's not. and I'm also not saying that luosty lundy forsy and bobby have a current running bet of how long it'll take for maffhew to break sasha in but i'm also not not saying that... luosty goaded lundy in the midst of a gossip session ("It has to be 3 months, right?) forsy happened to be around so lundy turned to him for advice ("7 months.") and maybeeee bobby overheard from all the way over from his stall and puts in his two cents for what it's worth ("6. Captain nice but not that nice. Very impatient." "So 3!" "No. Impatience makes him double the time, and wait longer. 6 months.") (lundy finally settles on a good 5 months because he's indecisive)

And Sasha does eventually pick up everything maffhew is throwing down... eventually... and when he does it becomes more so I want to court this omega the way they deserve I will take this slow and romance them sweetly :) *smash cut to maffhew caterwauling like a cat in heat*

small rant thing about personal 🏳️‍⚧️ stuff below, sorry if it sounds annoying 😭

Lately for the past 2 years, I've been thinking about going by other alternative names. Because ever since I've started to actually understand my trans identity, my current one has been feeling pretty meh (for various reasons), y'know?

Even though I've been picky and thinking about it for a while, I think I've found a name that I kinda like: Vivien. While i guess it tends to be thought of as more feminine, I think I like the more androgynous feeling of this name, and I like that it can occasionally still be interpreted as "masc".

But the reason why I'm sharing this is is because, tbh, I'm kinda scared to share it with friends and family irl. Not because my friends would care (or that I would be in danger!!!!!!! im safe!!!), but because 2 years ago (after I came out as trans) I had picked out a different name and mentioned it to two members of my family. Both times I got made fun of. ☹️

It wasn't even a crazy name, either- like mold or sock. Was it a bit uncommon? Sure, but it wouldn't turn any heads. One of the family members I told was my mom, and her knee-jerk reaction was to VEHEMENTLY say that she wouldn't let me call myself that </3 (again, the name was normal.) But when she caught wind of her reaction really hurting me, all of sudden she had a complete 180 and told me that she thought the name was cute and encouraged me to use it, even though she made it VERY CLEAR that she DID NOT like the name. 🙁 and it's like hi um no thanks. I will not be calling myself that anymore what

Ever since then, I've been a bit scared to open up about any name-related stuff. ☹️ So I was thinking that maybe, for any mutuals who might happen to see this, that you guys could maybe call me Vivien for like, a week? As a trial run? I want to sort of break out of this shell, but I don't think I'm ready to even mention it to my friends yet. 🙁 Of course, I won't stop you guys from referring to me as my user, but I just want to see if this is something that I like enough to risk being made fun of again 😭

And maybe you guys could tell me your thoughts on the name, too? Personally I think it's pretty androgynous, but I don't really want to go by something that could only be interpreted as feminine and just screams "GIRL!!!!!🫵 GIRL!!!!!!🫵WOMANNN!!!!!!!!!! 🫵🫵🫵🫵" y'know?
