as someone who has used a cane for over 2 years now ive noticed a really interesting bias against canes by able bodied people in comparison to other mobility aids. when we were at the same college my roommate used forearm crutches and i had my cane, and it became a joke to us how much more helpful and accommodating people were towards him (of course still overall bad- but better). the main example we always talk about is that people would fall over themselves to help him with doors, even to the point that it would get inconvenient (like trying to open the door to the accessible bathroom for him but in the process standing in the bathroom), meanwhile people would let doors shut on me without batting an eye. he started using a cane recently so i asked him about if there was a difference in how people treated him and he said there was a noticable difference and that people were less eager to help him when he was using it in comparison to the crutches. i have a few theories as to why:
1. most canes you see in media being used by someone who isnt elderly are aesthetic canes, and so people dont take it as seriously if a younger person is using one
2. unlike a lot of mobility aids, canes are one handed, which gives the illusion of an extra hand free. what people dont understand is that yes, while i do have an extra hand free, i am using that hand double time since the other one is occupied. also a lot of things require two hands (especially for someone with a disability) so doing everything one handed can be tough. i use my dominant hand to hold my cane since my pain is worse on my left side, which means that the hand i do have free isnt one i can use to type things in or write, so if i need to do that i have to put my cane under my arm and use my right hand
3. canes are taken less seriously as mobility aids since to an able bodied person they dont look as severe, which gives the impression that cane users are more capable than other mobility aid users. while yes, it is true that canes can be a starter mobility aid that will eventually be traded for another type as symptoms progress, that doesnt mean that canes are for Disability Lite. me and my roommate used our mobility aids for similar reasons and have had very similar pain experiences, we just used different aids. canes are also a significantly cheaper option compared to other aids and are easier to find in stores, and so are much more accessible. besides all that though, there shouldnt even be a bar for how disabled a person needs to be to recieve help, which id argue is a very controversial opinion to have anymore
4. canes are still a joke. they are still widely used as a funny prop to indicate that someone is old, incapable and feeble. even on tumblr i still see people utilizing canes in this way in artwork and memes, and thats obviously very alienating. mobility canes arent props, and you probably should not draw someone with one unless you actually intend to have that character need it
in my short 2 years of using a cane i have already faced so much ableism, most of which has come from young left leaning people. of course theres a wider issue of disabled people being the odd group out in the effort to stop bigotry since literally everyone will punch down on us. there are also certainly privileges to using a cane compared to other mobility aids. but its also incredibly strange how invisible they are, like people forget that i have one for a reason

ANDREW KREISS RELATIONSHIP OVERVIEW
WARNINGS: GENDER NOT SPECIFIED + MENTION OF ABLEISM + OOC? + NOT PROOFREAD
NOTES: Andrew mains let me put you in my pocket and take care of you. And quit your jobs too, I will provide for you all.
Being in a relationship with Andrew is an adventure in patience, understanding, and love. Sure, love is a given in any relationship, but with Andrew, it's essential to navigate his unique quirks and preferences with a touch of extra care.
For instance, Andrew dislikes sunlight, so when it comes to planning dates, be prepared for moonlit strolls and stargazing rather than sunny picnics and beach outings. If you’re a sun worshipper, it’s time to stock up on moonblock instead.
Crowds? Forget about it. Andrew thrives in the quiet corners of the world, where the population density is low and the ambiance is serene. He’s the quintessential introvert, the kind who’d rather have a cozy evening at home than a bustling night out. If you’re the life-of-the-party type, this might require some adjustment.
When you first start dating, don't be surprised if he stumbles over his words or gets flustered over the simplest things. A casual brush of your hand against his might send him into a blushing frenzy. He might awkwardly laugh at things that aren’t jokes or offer you a flower he picked up without realizing it's a bit wilted. It's all part of his charm, though.
Andrew’s awkwardness comes from a place of inexperience rather than indifference. He genuinely wants to give you all his love and affection, but he’s not quite sure how to go about it. He’s learning, slowly but surely, how to open up and let someone into his world. Please be patient with him.
The early days of your relationship might be filled with small, tentative steps. Once he’s actually comfortable around you enough, maybe he’ll invite you to the cemetery, showing you his world in a way that’s meaningful to him. Don’t be surprised if he seems more at ease there, where he’s surrounded by the familiar. It might seem unconventional, but for Andrew, it's a big step toward letting you into his life.
His awkwardness is part of what makes him so endearing. Every hesitant smile and gesture is a sign of his growing affection for you. He's new to all of this, and it feels weird to him, but in the best way possible. As he becomes more comfortable, you'll see glimpses of his true self—a kind, thoughtful person who’s just been waiting for someone to understand him.
I think it should be flat-out obvious that Andrew is not one for grand displays of affection. Don't expect sweeping romantic gestures or elaborate declarations of love. He shows his feelings through small, meaningful actions that speak volumes about his deep affection for you. You might find a single flower left on your pillow, a delicate token of his feelings. Or, during difficult moments, he'll be there, quietly holding your hand, offering comfort and support without saying much.
Andrew has a way with words, but he prefers to write them down rather than speak them. You might receive handwritten notes from him, filled with poetic descriptions of his emotions and how much you mean to him. These notes are treasures, capturing his heartfelt sentiments in a way spoken words often can't.
His love language is all about acts of service and giving thoughtful gifts. He'll go out of his way to do little things that make your life easier, whether it's fixing something around the house, cooking a meal, or simply being there when you need him. These acts, though seemingly simple, are his way of showing how much he cares.
As for gift giving, receiving gifts from Andrew is always special because they're never random. Each gift is chosen with care and has a personal significance. It could be a book he knows you'll love or something that reminds him of a special moment you shared.
Having been the victim of ableism and cruelly labeled the “white-haired monster” because of his albinism, Andrew struggles with the painful memories of his past. These experiences have left deep scars, making it difficult for him to trust and open up to others. However, he trusts you and is comfortable enough to lean on you for emotional support, finding solace in your presence.
Andrew’s past is a heavy burden he carries, and it’s not easy for him to talk about it. The wounds from being ostracized and misunderstood run deep, really deep. That being said, he’ll seem distant or reluctant to share his feelings. But with your gentle encouragement and unwavering support, he slowly begins to open up. It’s a gradual process, marked by small breakthroughs and quiet conversations where he reveals his inner turmoil. Your compassion acts as a balm for his wounded soul, helping him to heal bit by bit.
And if you reveal your own issues to him, Andrew gives you his full attention. He wants to be there for you just as you have been there for him. He may not always have the right words to say, but his presence and understanding are more than enough.
He might not be an expert in comforting others, but he genuinely tries his absolute best to make you feel better. His attempts might be awkward or clumsy, but they are always heartfelt. Whether it's sitting quietly by your side, offering a reassuring touch, or simply listening without interrupting, Andrew’s efforts show how much he cares.
He understands how much it means to have someone there during difficult times because he's been on the receiving end of your support. He wants to reciprocate that same level of care and understanding. His empathy runs deep, and even if he struggles to find the right words, his actions speak volumes. He might bring you a small token of comfort, like a warm cup of tea or a favorite book, as a way to show he's thinking of you.
In those moments when you need a shoulder to lean on, Andrew's there, providing a quiet, steady presence that offers a sense of calm and security. He knows the value of having someone who listens and understands, and he strives to be that person for you. His dedication to your well-being is evident in the way he prioritizes your needs and makes an effort to be there for you, just as you have been there for him. He wants to make you feel the same way you make him feel when he opens up about his own issues: understood, valued, and better.
If you ever want to surprise Andrew and watch him melt, gift him iris flowers. He has a special fondness for irises because someone once told him that iris will turn into a rainbow and carry kind souls to heaven.
So when you give him iris flowers, it’s not just a gift; it’s a gesture that genuinely touches his heart. The fact that these flowers come from you, the person he loves, makes the gesture even more meaningful. You’ll see his eyes light up and a smile spread across his face as he gently takes the flowers.
Andrew might hold the irises with a reverence that speaks volumes about how much this gesture means to him. He might even get a bit emotional from the simple yet profound act of receiving these flowers from you, evoking a deep sense of love and gratitude. In his quiet, heartfelt way, he’ll thank you, stumbling over his words as he tries to express just how much this means to him.
Your relationship is built on these little moments, these quiet acts of love that speak louder than any grand proclamation. It’s a partnership where both of you bring out the best in each other, healing wounds and creating a bond that’s deeply personal and profoundly touching. And if anyone asks, you can always joke that your love story started in a cemetery with a guy who’s more comfortable with the dead than the living—but who learned to cherish the living soul who loves him.

You probably get this a lot but why do you hate Tim Drake? Like a detailed explanation. Not judging or anything just curious
Okay so. TLDR: both canon and fanon push him so much it gets insufferable and my some of my faves specifically are massive victims to it.
Probably going to be long.
First, Jason. My favorite character of all time from any media I’ve ever consumed.
Canon: there are multiple instances in Tim’s original Robin stuff from him AND others being like “Jason was reckless and got himself killed” and basically victim blaming a dead kid HE DIDN’T KNOW to make him look better. Like Tim literally hallucinates Jason telling him AND I QUOTE, “I killed myself, Tim because I couldn’t wait. Because I didn’t think it though” and this is just what I personally consider the worst. There was also a lot of “Jason was x negative trait that I’m not, because I’m better” Even once Jason came back there’s still a vibe of “Tim is better then Jason.”
Fanon: The insistence on making Jason either a brute who hates poor little Timmy for no reason, or making him Tim’s caretaker despite the fact they’re like two years apart.
All of it feels EXTREMELY classist to me tbh.
Next, Steph.
Canon: He SUCKED with how he treated her omg. The constant belittling and acting like she was incapable of helping and being a vigilante. Like even into her batgirl days when she was literally given Babs’ stamp of approval and was working directly with Dick and Damian??? Also he was a terrible boyfriend.
Fanon: she gets flattened into his dumb blonde bff as if she’s not EXTREMELY smart. Like does everyone forget the whole way she got involved with this was because her dad was kind of Riddler 2.0??
So. Misogyny.
Also Cass
Canon: now this is where the racism starts. Also ableism. He treats her as if her learning disability makes her lesser. Repeatedly acts as if she’s a child or animal. So double whammy of infantilization of Asian women AND disabled people.
Fanon: I have talked about my hatred of Asian Tim before. Because it’s both always pale East Asian, so people can basically draw him as white as well as falling into Asian stereotypes and there’s the addition of once again, making a woman a prop when you bring in the Tim and Cass are twins stuff.
Racism and Ableism! Yay!
The al Ghuls…..
Canon: oh God where to start. Chronologically I guess? Damian first. I have actually made a post about this before there are multiple instances of him being extremely racist to Damian. There’s the “on earth we call this a handshake” panel. where yeah he says this to a 10-year-old from a foreign country. And then there’s a part where he apparently has some contingency plan for Damian and Damian finds it. And Tim’s excuse is “his biology.” I don’t care if they meant that Ra’s was evil. Again saying that about a non-white child from a foreign country is insane!! Also every time Damian attacks him Tim gives as good as he gets
Onto Ra’s. My main gripe is the “sending his sister to assault Tim and get pregnant” RA’S WOULD NOT FUCKING DO THAT. Yes he’s a villain. Not that kind though???
Fanon: Damian is the “evil” “feral” POC who attacks the perfect white protagonist Timmy.
Ra’s is the evil Arab man preying (quite often sexually!) on the innocent frail white boy.
Like you see how that’s incredibly racist right??
There’s also some miscellaneous things like his general treatment of women, how Rose is written in Teen Titans 2003 (the comic, not the show) to harass Tim (racism and misogyny), as well as how fanon likes to ignore Babs and put Tim in her spot, the insistence he’s just so much smarter and better then everyone else, and the woobifying him and constantly making him the victim (ex: titans tower and the idea Dick tried to send him to Arkham) but I think this post is long enough already

telling this to you because you’re the only one who likes the human characters in dandy’s world. but
Sam (sprout’s handler) is the only non-binary character in all of dandy’s world. which had to be weird for them! considering the time it takes place I doubt they were out. with your headcanons of Delilah being loveless aro & Arthur being aro it makes me think that maybe there were a lot of lgbt workers there. maybe they attracted each other to work in this nice place where there’s less judgment. idk I’m thinking
i’d like to start off with this post of mine before i start my damn Dissertation HDHSJSN

and yeah i think working at gardenview was very generally very nice ! i just like to think arthur is very kind, he wanted to make a good kids show that teaches good lessons. and like, assuming the universe of dandys world is otherwise realistic to real life; he’s a black man born maybe the 60s, growing up in the 70s and 80s. he would have witnessed discrimination or had it enacted on him, and Certainly not saying racism just Doesn’t Exist Any More, but he would’ve grown up while segregation was still very prevalent and racism was. louder. in the general -especially white- population. and then w my headcanon of him using mobility aids he would’ve likely dealt with a lot of ableism. and being aroace(though likely just identifying as asexual, as it seems aromantic wasn’t coined until 2005? according to google at least) likely dealing with amatonormativity/allonormativity/heteronormativity/aphobia/or even homophobia bc Well If You’re Not Straight You Must Be Gay. also while he maybe wouldn’t have had direct experience to the aids crisis, he was still Around For It. and then also my hc of him being mixed race. and then All the ways these things intersect with each other. i think he’s shaped by his experiences and just wants Better and to create positive change !
i also have a little headcanon that he used to be a teacher’s aide ! i think he’s always been into drawing and making characters, and so this job is where he decided he wanted to do children’s edutainment :’] my sibling and i have talked about what we think the cartoon may have been like, and i think we figured “somewhere between animaniacs and bluey”
delilah ofc would’ve dealt with sexism, and amatonormativity/etc and shitty comments about how she acts or doesn’t really care to make friends, “being a loner”, or not being “lady-like enough” or god forbid being friends with a black kid. i think she would be queer friendly maybe more because more plainly “what difference does it make/why should that bother me, they’re not hurting anybody” but also bc “they’re still people too” ! I think it’s very likely both her and arthur were raised christian, arthur probably still identifies with it, but i don’t think delilah does. i think she thinks her religious upbringing was a prison NDNSJSNSJ
sam may not have come out to either of them, but i think they felt safe there that maybe they could to at least the other main toon’s handlers <:] and also with them being presumably irish, with their last name being mclaughlin, they would’ve been dealing with bigot shit for that alone i wouldn’t fault them in the slightest for not coming out to anyone ever. regardless i think arthur and delilah try to make sure that gardenview is a welcoming and kind environment that doesn’t tolerate That Shit. i can only imagine the smear campaigns the show wouldve gotten for having a rainbow flower boy protagonist.
also iirc sam is Stated to be nonbinary and using they/them, while looey and teagan we don’t know the specifics of their gender labels but we do know they use he/they and she/they respectively, and i do picture them deciding on those pronouns was a later development, and not a since-creation thing. idk if they would’ve come out to anybody either, or if they did I don’t think they would’ve even thought it was a big deal at all. i think toons in general are sorta just inherently silly little guys that don’t really adhere to human strictures, they think bigotry is stupid they don’t Get how someone could actually think that way
#the monarch’s court#dandy’s world#dandys world#i hope i didn’t say anything Stupid here. I am a white person who was born 2002

My Favorite Books I Read in 2024
I read a ton of good novels last year- 32 in all (and uh, 82 manga/graphic novels, but we’ll examine that in another post). Here’s a link to my Goodreads year in books (the manga is at the beginning, the novels start with Red, White & Royal Blue) and my storygraph wrap up.
Read my posts on my favorite anime of 2024 here and on my favorite manga/graphic novels of 2024 here.
I got to have fun reading some classics like The Odyssey and The Wizard of Oz, but I also read a lot of notable newer books! Let's take a look!

The Spirit Bares Its Teeth by Andrew Joseph White
The story follows Silas, a trans guy in an alternate 1883 where violet-eyed people have the power to talk to spirits. If someone is perceived as a man by society, this power is treated as useful. But for anyone society perceives as a woman, it's a different story. There's this idea that the power to speak to the dead causes women to "go mad". Silas is diagnosed with this "sickness" and gets thrown in a horrible sanatorium that forces patients to become obedient wives. But this school has some dark things going on under the surface, and Silas might not even make it out of this alive...
This is a horror that keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole way though. The setting is vivid and creative, the characters who suffer under the weight of oppression are varied and complex, and the protagonist is easy to root for. It's very spooky, pretty relentless, pretty gory and pretty twisty. It's very hard to figure out who you can actually trust! It's also a fascinating exploration of transphobia and misogyny. It obviously draws on real things women and trans people struggled with in the 1800s (accusations of having "hysteria" and other "illnesses" just for existing) but also talks about ableism too, as the main character is autistic. It really makes you consider how terrifying and isolating it would be to live in a time with so few resources and such limited knowledge, but of course, this still persists in a lot of places today.
It's not all horror though, there is some catharsis and nice moments of Silas finding solace and support in other trans people and it leads to some really touching scenes and relationships. There's also satisfaction in seeing marginalized people banding together and doing all they can to fight back.
Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Faeries and Emily Wilde’s Map of the Otherlands by Heather Fawcett
This fantasy series follows Emily, a professor and dedicated researcher of the mysterious and often dangerous fae. Emily is out to make an encyclopedia of fae lore, and she has no interest in socializing with others when there's faeries to find. Unfortunately for her, her scholarly rival, Wendell, show up and decides to be all insufferably social and charming and interested in her. He might secretly be a faerie though, and Emily is interested in that, so, ugh, maybe she has to put up with him.
These books are a ton of fun. It's a cozy adventure the creatively draws on some cool fae lore. It's biggest charm is our protagonist, who is wonderfully grumpy and stubborn and clever and only wants to bury herself in researching this thing she likes She's the kind of person who puts footnotes in their own journal, and it's delightful.
Even when she starts catching feelings for Wendell, her research is always her number one priority. And Wendell, who is very obviously smitten with her the second he appears, is okay with that! In fact, her stubbornness and fearless, unshakeable commitment to her research is pretty much exactly why Wendell is so down bad for her, which makes him a really relatable love interest. He's obnoxious in a genuinely charming way and the teasing banter between Wendell and Emily is very entertaining.

Lonely Castle in the Mirror by Mizuki Tsujimura
Kokoro has been unable to go outside her house ever since she dropped out of school due to horrible bullying. One day, her mirror glows, and she enters it to find herself in a castle with six other students. A little girl in a wolf mask tells all of them that there's a room in the castle that can grant one single wish, but only for one person, so whoever finds the room first gets the wish. They'll have an opportunity to hang out in the castle every day until the deadline, after which the castle will disappear. But as the kids get to know each other, things get more complicated.
This is such a lovely, healing story I'm glad I finally got around to reading it. While the story goes into the causes behind the epidemic of hikikomori and futoku in Japanese students, it's also a universally relatable story about the ways bullying, grief and trauma can affect a child and lead to severe anxiety. Kokoro's slow journey of recovery is touching and feels realistic, despite the fantastical elements. The book shows how brave and hard it is to take these small steps, and how Kokoro struggles to even talk about what happened. The focus of the book is the connections the kids make with each other. It explores the secrets they carry, how they accidentally hurt each other, but also how they ultimately are able to empathize with and support each other. Each character is interesting and achingly human in their own right. The whimsical fairy tale elements of the story complement the themes well, and the book delivers some really solid plot twists that serve to make its themes stronger too.
One thing to warn for is we learn that a fourteen year old girl has entered a relationship with a man in his 20s. This isn't shown to be healthy or good for her though, and the reason she does this is heartbreaking. There's also some (non graphic) attempted SA. With that in mind, this is just a really cool tale, and I full recommend it!
First Light by Liz Kerin
This is the second part of a duology that began with Night’s Edge, which I recommended last year, and honestly, this book is even better than the first one, which was already pretty great. The book continues to use vampirism to explore the cycle of abuse effectively. This time, Mia is seeking vengeance on her mother's abusive ex-boyfriend, who was responsible for turning her Mom into a vampire. But when she finds the ex-boyfriend and infiltrates his little cult (with her kinda-girlfriend, who actually genuinely wants to join), she gets manipulated by him the way her mother did, her trauma and past making it easy to fall into a cycle that's familiar. She starts to understand her mother, and vampires in general, more than she ever thought she would. It's just a really interesting take on vampires, and this one actually addressed some of the thing I thought were a little iffy in the first book. It's dark, but there's also a lot of catharsis.
I think these books are easily among the top of my list of favorite vampire media. Content warning for abuse, and the vampire bites having a hint of a metaphor for sexual violence like they often do.

Bright Young Women by Jessica Knoll
Bright Young Women follows a young woman in the aftermath of a serial killer breaking into her sorority and killing several of her friends. The media and police are all too willing to question her testimony and distort the details to fit their narrative. Another woman suspects her girlfriend was murdered by the same killer, and they team up to find the truth.
Bright Young Women is a page-turner, and I honestly didn't realize it was so heavily based on the Ted Bundy murders until I read the reviews, because I didn't know much about him (or most real life serial killers, a fact which I am very okay with). But the book is here to dunk on Ted Bundy and the ways his "intelligence and charisma" were greatly exaggerated by the media and even the judge at his actual trial, rage about the ways the victims stories are erased in favor of the killers who are glamorized and fawned over, point out the ways the police constantly fail victims, and to set the record straight to those who idolize serial killers.
The story centers the survivors and victims, talking about their lives and triumphs and the goals they were working toward and what could have been. It's depressing, but it also shines the light on the bravery of the women whose testimonies got the killer convicted even when the rest of the world was dismissive of them.
This book is a really tough read, and obviously there's a huge content warning for sexual violence, the graphic aftermath of horrific deaths...the method of one rape and murder actually really disturbed me (mentioned in the aftermath, the book never shows the actual acts), it was so gross and horrible (and unfortunately, happened in real life). Read with caution. But it's a book that will definitely stick with me for a while.
The Rise of Kyoshi and the Shadow of Kyoshi by F.C. Yee
I never got around to the Kyoshi novels because there's been a lot of mediocre Avatar the Last Airbender spin-off media...but I should not have hesitated, because these were actually really good. They follow the life of Kyoshi, the famously badass Earth Kingdom Avatar, and shows how she became how she is.
Yee does a great job capturing the world of Avatar, while also expanding on it in interesting ways. I really liked a lot of the little details that deepened the world--for instance, it's mentioned that Firebenders shave their heads when they lose an Agni Kai because of the disgrace, which gives context to Zuko's initial hairstyle and actually makes the fact he actively kept his hair from growing back for three years extremely sad, since it implies he thought he would only be worthy of that once his father approved of him again. It was something I think Yee definitely came up with himself, but it made a lot of sense with the show in a way that felt natural.
The novels were definitely darker than the show, but not in a Netflix Avatar let's-watch-a-bunch-of-people-we-don't-care-about-burn-to-death way, but in a way that felt natural to Kyoshi's circumstances. I found I usually did care a lot when a character died because they were often likeable. I found the death of one character in particular near the end of book one genuinely heartbreaking.
The books did a good job explaining why Kyoshi became more severe later on, and in how she wrestles with how far she can go with her role as the Avatar, what justice is, and whether killing people solves anything. The second book was not quite as good as the first, with its decision to switch out the cast of the characters for entirely new people and just being more meandering in general, but it was still a good read. I definitely rec if you're an Avatar fan, odds are you'll really enjoy them!
Voyage of the Damned by Frances White
In the country of Concordia, each province has one heir who has a "Blessing"--basically a unique magic power. Ganymedes (a.k.a Dee)'s dad cheated on his wife a bunch, and one of the children from those affairs must have inherited the Blessing rather than Dee. To keep this a secret, Dee's dad makes him pretend to have a Blessing. Now Dee has to go on a voyage with the other Blessed and, sick of the charade, he's decided he's going to make them all hate him so he gets kicked out of the group. But that plan is extremely interrupted when his shipmates start getting murdered one by one.
Voyage of Damned is just a really good time. A queer murder mystery romp with a ton of suspicious and varied characters vying for power, a fun lead with a distinctive voice, tragic romance, cute friendships, and even some touching exploration of prejudice, suicidal ideation and self loathing. It was just extremely readable and I was entertained the whole way though, but it also made me feel things sometimes. It also delivered a ton of solid plot twists, including a big and satisfying one that made me want to go back and read through a bunch of scenes knowing the truth (and I did).
Dee and his distinctive glib narration probably won't be for everyone but I liked him and vibed with him. He goes through a lot, including finding out his boyfriend he'd been separated from for five years is now engaged to a girl and acting super cold to him. The tension between Dee and Ravi and how it affects all his relationships is a real emotional hook, and his banter and dynamics with the people he likes (or even some people he doesn't) are generally fun to read. If all I've said sounds cool to you, give it a try, you might like it!

Bonus Rec: Someone You Can Build a Nest In by John Wiswell
Shesheshen is a blob monster who dines on the humans (mostly those who try to kill her). She can look human with some effort, and go into town to feed sometimes. But the she falls in love with a kind woman named Homily. This clearly means she needs to do the proper romantic thing and lay some eggs in Homily so their little monster kids can be born by devouring Homily for the inside out. Wait, humans aren't into that? That's awkward. And despite her biological impulse she doesn't really want Homily to die? Even more awkward. Oh, and Homily's family are monster hunters and it turns out that was Homily's brother Shesheshen ate a while back? Super mega awkward. What's a monster to do...
I'm a lover of actually monstrous monster women, so I was hyped for this one, especially with the great cover by @jmfenner91! While it disappointed me in some areas, it was still fun and heartwarming enough I'd recommend it.
Our monster lady is a great character, and her unique point of view where she's nonchalant, cynical and often hilariously baffled by humans is a joy to read. Her personality, her super gross biology, and how she sees the world...she's so charming and her romance with Homily is very cute. I also really like that the book focused on healing from abuse and finding a way to move forward with each other's support. I also liked the romantic climax, and the discussion of finding kissing weird, because that made me feel seen.
There were quite a few things that kept it from being a five star review in my heart though--Sheshesen is completely disconnected from people, has just spent her life alone in her cave, but she knows what an abuser is and exactly how abusive people operate in a weirdly modern way. Abusers are also only portrayed one way: openly cruel and evil with zero sympathetic qualities to every single person they interact with. There is no cycle of abuse with these people, they never act nice to to draw their victims back in, we don't see more subtle, manipulative emotional abuse, almost no claims of caring about people. Obviously cartoonishly abusive rich people exist in real life, and I don't necessarily need abusers to be humanized. Still...it just felt like the nuance of most real life abuse was being ignored. And because these people were so one dimensional, it was pretty tedious to spend SO much time with them.
Still, the book was very monstrously sweet, and it was overall a good read. I wish it could have been a little more, but what we got was pretty nice.

VIKTOR X WHEELCHAIR USER PLEASE??

Be prepared to have the most customized wheelchair to ever exist.
He takes pride in his ability to make your chair more one with you. He definitely has added a retractable strap to help you carry things, a seatbelt if needed, he has altered bags so they’re more accessible for you.
Any time anything goes wrong with your chair and it needs a tweak and a fix, he’s on it.
Yeah, sorry, Jayce, I know we’re working on this time sensitive thing but my partner needs my help. Is basically what happens every time without fail.
Some days (if you and your wheelchair can handle it, that is), if he’s having a worse for wear day, he can be convinced to sit in your lap and let you carry him around. Those are the very bad days though, it doesn’t happen often.
He’s used to getting the look from people. He’s long since come to ignore it. At least when it comes to himself.
When it’s you people give the look to? They’re getting stared down at best. He’s not afraid of calling someone out.
He does love when the two of you get to be sassy to people though.
“Can I ask what happened to you?” “No.”
He will complain openly and loudly to Jayce about how inaccessible Piltover is.
He’s more vocal about problems whenever they interfere with your day to day than his own but those things often times overlap.
Jayce has gone to Mel with a long list, file, actually book filled with things Piltover can do to become more accessible due to this.
Whether or not you’re able to move without your wheelchair, expect him to rub your back and give you kisses on your temple as he’s walking. Man will full on stop in the middle of a conversation to lean down and give you a kiss.
Together, seeing each other in better, softer lights than you see yourselves, you help one another with your internalized ableism.
Showering together is nice. He’ll hold the shower head for you and vice versa.
He already had a shower bench.
In fact, when moving in with one another, you find that either way it goes, both of your homes are rather accessible for the other.
If you need help with anything related to starting or ending your day, he will be there to help as much as he can.
(His upper body strength has improved greatly since you started dating. It’s something he’d take pride in.)
In fact, that’s the main card Jayce or Sky will pull to make the man go home.

This is something I have said about the beef between Dream and Tommy privately before this shit even happened. I think they both had some way of being in the wrong in their friendship and maybe are just not meant to be friends.
Back in the peak of the DSMP, it was also the peak of quarantine, where everyone’s social skills were worse than average. Tommy and Dream were BOTH young, still are, and yes Tommy was younger, or to put it as people’s favorite buzzword, a minor, but their age difference isn’t THAT crazy and they were FRIENDS
Tommy was immature. He was actively known as someone annoying who likes to push people’s buttons (intentionally or otherwise, though from what I’ve seen, often intentionally), whether or not people found it charming or irritating. That’s always been a main part of his humor
It is no fucking surprised that during that time he would have broken people’s boundaries or pushed things too far
Dream back then was even more reactive than he can be now. He’s been dealing with the main portion of ALL DSMP related hate since the beginning and it has actively been getting worse. He has a habit of reacting poorly, but that’s because people keep PUSHING HIM to. Pretty much every single time he has apologized afterwards for anything genuinely stupid or harmful
My WHOLE perception of their falling out was that Tommy was an immature kid who probably got on Dream’s nerves one too many times, and it’s entirely possible that as a reaction, Dream may have said hurtful things to him
But from what I’ve seen, he hasn’t
Not once
Every single thing I’ve seen of Dream communicating with Tommy in ways people have painted as mean or manipulative have literally just been him communicating in the most mature way possible: direct and honest. And now of course we know that a lot of his communication style is most likely affected by him being autistic
I’ve seen people say this and thought it may have been a stretch before, but it’s becoming more and more apparent: this is a case of an autistic person being in a friend group that has terrible communication skills and blames everything on him, thinks he’s weird, etc. because of poorly packaged ableism and the only reason it’s such a fuss is because EVERYONE involved is a popular creator and they keep making all this shit public
The fans opinions (whether genuine or rage bait) absolutely affects the way things are happening as well. Streamers are being biased, they aren’t being entirely honest, they’re all being emotionally reactive, no matter how they phrase things, and the main target of this has been Dream through seemingly no fault of his own other than having a communication style that the others didn’t like/understand
This whole thing is fucking ridiculous and every single creator who claims to no longer be friends with or wants to be associated with Dream needs to SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT HIM
None of them would have any sort of involvement or interaction with Dream anymore, like they CLAIM they want, if they would just leave the poor motherfucker alone
You guys are acting like Dream has been this terrible mastermind behind the scenes all along because a few of his ex-friends are saying shit about him with little to no proof and TONS of bias
All along he was just fucking autistic and everyone else’s PERSONALLY CREATED perceptions of him have made them borderline delusional and have completely clouded their image of him
Everyone has been immature here and I’m fucking sick and tired of it
ALL of these creators should take Tommy’s misplaced advice: get off the internet and go to therapy
All of this over fucking Minecraft and rampant cringe culture ableism, fuck all of you

You have a post on intellectual disability. How much of that post also applies to characters who have brain damage? Parietal lobe specifically.
I have one character with intellectual disability and another with brain damage. They're classmates, both asian, both have last names and families that love them very much, and I will never ever kill them off bc my mom likes them both very much.
You said you want to see intellectually disabled characters going on cool adventures. Does getting kidnapped by demons and tortured count as going on cool adventures? They both survive, but rescuing them is the main motivation of the heros. They recover from the experience fairly well. They like spicy food.
Hello,
Please consider the real-world implications of the whole kidnapping and torture thing. I am begging you. People with disabilities like intellectual disability seem to be constantly in the news due to human cruelty committed against them. Off of the top of my head, I could name five different cases of someone with intellectual or developmental disability being kidnapped and tortured. I don't think I've ever heard of one case where the victim in question survived. This kind of violence against disabled people may seem to extreme to be real but I assure you it is, it's far too common. My parents even had safety measures in place to protect me from this happening to me because the threat of stuff like this is so real.
Look, I just would not approach that unless you have one of those disabilities. Cases like that are real, they are common, they are brutal, and they often end up with the disabled person six feet under with some of the most horrific things on their autopsy. Real people lose their lives in situations just like that one and the ableism surrounding the prosecution of the criminals involved and the media reaction to these cases... there are no words. Crimes like that... I cannot properly convey how strongly I urge you against turning a case like that into a plot point. That is not a cool adventure, that's a story my parents see in the news that makes them terrified for my safety. I get dark fiction, I get coping through writing I truly do, but if you're equating this real-life tragedy with a "cool adventure" and then just brushing past it and mentioning that they like spicy food as though the trauma is a fun little fact, I do not think it is wise for you to write this.
I strongly advise scrapping this plot- I don't even think this should be reworked, this just should not be approached like this. In all honesty, I almost don't think this should be approached at all by someone without these disabilities. Just don't. If someone must be kidnapped and tortured and rescued, do not make it these two characters. Make it some other abled character. This is just way too real.
(Also, they would not just recover fairly well. Having intellectual disability or a TBI does not protect you from PTSD and trauma- if anything, it will make the characters more susceptible to PTSD and trauma due to how their brains will process this. This recovery would be long and hard because not only are we more susceptible to getting PTSD after trauma, but we're also harder to treat. This will not be an easy road. Not even remotely.)

I've noticed that you are interested in stories with multiple blind characters and often propose adding more blind characters to a story as a solution. I really struggle with this because it's not as simple as that -- stories don't have infinite narrative space. The idea that every story has a large cast is influenced by the prevalence of long serialized media in fandom: webcomics, TV shows, etc. But many writers (myself included) write a lot of novellas and short stories which often only have a few characters -- maybe even only 1 or 2! Even novels don't usually have huge expansive casts -- maybe 5 main characters with some additional side characters.
Considering this, I don't understand how it's realistic for every story (or even, say, 50% of stories) to have multiple blind characters (without it feeling forced). This is compounded by the fact that most blogs that talk about other forms of representation say the same! So if I write a 2-character short story and the protagonist is a blind Latino man, does the second character also have to be a blind Latino man? It just doesn't make sense! This is just a general problem I've noticed in discussions around representation -- there's an assumption that every cast will have 10+ characters and narrative space to develop those characters, even though that's not realistic for most narrative forms.
Do you have any thoughts on this?
Writing Multiple Blind Characters in Short Stories
Hi Anon! Surprise. I write short stories as well. I have experience with this. I have never felt like my blind characters were forced or unrealistic, even with having several of them in the same story. I’ll try to explain what might help you.
First, the idea that multiple blind characters is forced or unrealistic comes from ableism. Think about why you feel there is a limit on disabled characters. If you can create stories, I would hope you are creative enough to consider the possibility that multiple blind characters could exist in the same place and time. Challenging this barrier opens up more possibilities, allowing you to explore different types of blindness, different reactions to it, different upbringings, and multiple ways of living, adapting, and navigating being blind.
Second, blind characters need access to their own community. This is where they learn how to be blind. This where they get support. This is where they might find understanding and belonging. You can find more information about community here in an excellent reblog. Also, here.
As you mentioned, I often suggest adding more blind characters when writers insist upon using stereotyped portrayals. Having multiple characters with different experiences helps to make your story more realistic and nuanced, contrary to what people might implicitly believe. Having more than one blind character is something I highly recommend because it helps with not having all your representation rest on the shoulders of one character.
For example, if you are worried a main character who has cloudy eyes might reinforce the idea that all blind people have cloudy eyes, having another blind character with a different experience may help. If one of your blind characters is naive and innocent, you might have another blind character who is brash, displays a lack of trust in others, and has a lot of shocking stories. Maybe they’re in a rock band together. They met while playing blind football (aka soccer) on a middle school team. They bonded over their pet cats and sour patch kids.
Or something.
Another important thing to remember when writing is that you have control over the story. Too many writers come to me feeling stuck because they feel they cannot change their story while also wanting to incorporate my suggestions. This makes it challenging to address implicit bias or stereotypes, much less guide writers in going in different directions.
Additionally, I feel uncomfortable with the complaints about other blogs in this ask. I feel like this isn’t really about me, nor is it something I can comment on. I will say that it sounds as if a bunch of blogs dedicated to helping people write marginalized characters are mentioning some of the same things. They are probably doing so for a reason.
However, while it helps, writing multiple blind characters won’t improve every story, which I explained in my review of the book Blind. I was not impressed with this book. I did not feel that the four blind characters were very good, nor did having them help with offsetting the portrayal of blindness as a miserable experience.
Conversely, one of my favorite blind characters is Toph Beifong from Avatar: The Last Airbender. Despite being the only blind character in the show, the writers did a good job with her. Would I have liked her to meet more of her community as she travels with the Gang? Absolutely. Even though I like her, she still never had access to her community after being isolated by her parents for so long.
So, no, you don’t need to have multiple blind characters if the suggestion bothers you this much. I even provided good examples of what to do, what not to do, and times where my typical advice was not as helpful for the resulting story.
However, please consider where these feelings stem from. Consider the origins of the idea that having multiple blind characters is unrealistic. Using the example you provided in your question, I wonder, would you say the same if both your characters were white and abled? Is there any way you can challenge the fear of seeming unrealistic? What about being considered unrealistic bothers you so much?
You don’t necessarily need to have characters in the story for them to exist. Even background characters can help. I will try to give some ideas for this:
Does your blind character have family they can talk about or remember? Are any of their family members blind?
Do they have any friends? Just because the friends aren’t in the story doesn’t mean they don’t exist at all.
Does the blind character have any formative memories or flashbacks?
Does the character who isn’t blind know any blind folks?
Your characters should have lives outside of the story. They should have memories and experiences that made them who they are. This is where you can have other blind characters. Perhaps this is how your blind character can have a community.
However, I would still like to see more blind characters interacting with each other. This is what I want as a blind person. If you don’t want to go that direction, that’s fine.
I hope this helps.

Humans are space oddities: exploring disability, communication, and humanity’s job in space (minimal ableism!)
Humans fill various roles in the broader universe. They work jobs from pet to protection, depending on the client. For the vast majority of beings, humans' adaptability and generalist lifestyle was feared.
Kell was lucky to be born on a human-claimed world and they were even luckier to have parents who supported them. It wasn’t going to be easy working with non-human crewmates, but at least their parents found them a safe ship to start on.
When they arrived at the dock, a tall, winged creature stood waiting for them.
“Hello,” it greeted in ASL. Kell looked at them in surprise. ASL? From a non-human? “I’m N-O-X, Nox, moth cryptid, she/her/any. My friend signed me up to be your translator for this trip, since it’s your first time.” Having less fingers than Kell, it was a challenge for them to read her finger spelling, but not impossible.
“Nice to meet you. I’m K-E-L-L, Kell, human, they/them, they replied. I didn’t realize I would be getting a translator.”
“I didn’t either, but I’m always up for something new. Come aboard!” Nox turned and walked onto the ship. Kell followed, bemused.
On board, Kell’s glasses transcribed spoken Universal Interplanetary Language into scrolling text, but Nox’s translations got the tone across in a way that spoken language wouldn’t be able to. With her help, they were able to easily ask and answer questions, and their crewmates had a lot of questions!
“What do you specialize in? All the captain said was you’d be working with Janmia,” asked a tuscian.
“Have you seen your lodgings yet? I printed out some human decorations for you, such as the human fruit: pineapple!” said a yuto.
“Do humans usually speak with their hands?” asked a creature that Kell didn’t recognize. All they could tell was it was quadruped.
“Not all of us, but some can. What was your name again?” they prompted.
“I didn’t tell you. I’m Seva, bromid, she/her. My kind greets each other by exchanging scent signatures, but humans can’t do that so let me at least smell you.” Seva didn’t wait for an invitation to stick her nose way too close.
“You can say no, you know?” A human leaned over Kell’s shoulder, their words appearing on Kell’s glasses.
“Ok, then no thanks, Seva!” Kell backed up as Nox translated. Seva hesitated but the new human glared and she backed off.
“Hey, what’s up with the hands?” the human walked around to see Kell’s face better.
Why was a human of all beings so judgemental? Kell grimaced, but replied, “I’m Deaf, it’s sign language. Nox is helping me now, but I’ll text with coworkers when she’s not here.”
The human looked at Nox as she spoke, then at his watch transcribing her words.
“I can’t hear her vocalizations, but my watch picks it up,” they explained. “I didn’t realize she signed.” Nox flattened her ears and said something else to them; they rolled their eyes and turned to Kell.
“She’s always telling me what to do. But yeah, I need to introduce myself. Prak, human, he/they. I’m the main security on this ship.”
“Kell, human, they/them,” Kell offered. “I didn’t realize humans were actually a thing in the security industry. I’m here as an engine and turbine technician.”
“Our durability makes us pretty good at the job. I didn’t realize humans ever were not involved with security.” Prak glanced at his watch as a message popped up on screen. “Anyways, gotta go. Welcome aboard I guess.” He turned and walked into the crew sleeping area.
Even though Kell couldn’t see them, his words still were transcribed by Kell’s glasses. And from Nox’s startled posture, she heard it too.
“FUCK! Who printed out a pineapple???”
Notes: Kell, Nox, and Prak are all OCs of mine and I wanted to put them in space! Kell was created for this HaSO story and I feel like I haven’t wrote about them in forever. Prak was made off a prompt that said to make an OC who hates pineapple and won’t tell anyone why (it’s partially because a pineapple killed his father, shh…). He left earth to avoid them. I need to figure out the timeline of how all my OCs meet because it’s a bit convoluted.

my experience with roiz .
( as best i can remember )
warning for lesbiphobia , ableism , manipulation , transphobia ( ? ) , grooming / sexual harassment , potential faking of physical disorders , mental health struggles / episodes .
i first met roiz a few years back ! we didn’t really talk much , until later on that year . he became more active in my server due to our mutual interest in " melliot " musicals . he seemed nice at first . maybe a little off sometimes , but nice . though this quickly changed and i grew uncomfortable . i didn’t speak up at this time — due to fear of losing someone i had grown to borderline depend on in such a short timeframe . let it be known that i am not trying to one - up anybody else ; this is purely my experience with him . nor do i feel as though my experience was worse than the victims of his sexual grooming : it wasn’t . my heart goes to each and every one of his victims .
one of the main things that sticks out to me is the way roiz would treat me regarding my identity . he seemed to view me as a cisgender lesbian ? which confused me , as i am very much not . he would also constantly make lesbiphobic jokes towards me, such as putting lesbians on his official introduction post as a ' joke ' targeted at me . this was almost neverending and made me feel incredibly invalid and insecure in my identity and who i was as a person . i started to feel like i would never be more than the " token lesbian friend " to people due to the way he would act around me whenever i mentioned my orientation , and this eventually led to a horrible mental health spiral where i truly didn’t know who i was anymore , or if i was worthy of being known as anything other than ' the lesbian friend . ' he would also only ever address me using feminine terms , when i have always been open about using all terms . i wouldn’t mind feminine terms sometimes ! but it wasn’t sometimes , as he would never use any other form .
another thing that i remember about our friendship was the way he would treat me as a disabled person . to add context to this , i have a medically recognised joint disorder which causes mobility issues alongside other things . he would make comments such as " blud can’t run " unprovoked . he did this whilst we were referencing adamandi characters ; none of which have mobility issues . additionally , he would claim to have the same issues as me shortly after i talked about them — prior to me discussing them , he had never mentioned any form of physical disability . i won’t go into any more detail about this specific aspect of our friendship , as there’s not much else to state , as well as my own struggles remembering the situation .
most importantly of all : roiz was my friend whilst engaging in inappropriate sexual contact with an eleven year old . i never picked up on it despite it being extremely clear looking back , and i would have never befriended him had i known he was doing this ; i was manipulated into believing otherwise . roiz also claimed that this person had ' abandoned him ' after they temporarily broke contact , evoking a feeling of sympathy from me towards roiz that i really shouldn’t have felt at all . however , i did notice that he would initiate sexual or otherwise inappropriate conversations in a public server with exclusively minors . it later came out that the one on the receiving end of these conversations was , in fact , an eleven year old boy being groomed by roiz . this eleven year old was — as you may have figured out already — my good friend over at @\haowenyang , who also has a post about the situation . i recommend reading it as he is the true victim here , not me . you can find that post here .
that just about sums up my experience with this vile , sickening person . once again , i am not trying to claim that my situation was worse than those he sexually harassed and / or groomed . i do however feel it is important to get it out there . this may not be entirely accurate and there may be some gaps , as my memories of my friendship with roiz have become fuzzy and unclear . but i felt it was important to share either way . thank you for taking the time to read this .

If you can tell who this is, don’t out me please. I just want this out here. Also fair warning, I yapped a lot and this is directly about the server, since I lurk a lot in there. Sorry!
Some of the mods in the server feel.. very eh to me? A lot of threads that have been closed for “arguments” could’ve been solved with a simple working of striking or deleting the argument so it doesn’t absolutely murder the suggestion. It’s kind of upsetting to see that.
I think my main issue with this method as well is the fact that someone could do targetted harassment, say that someone is “possibly ableist” and then not get striked ALONE on that.
The only reason they were ‘possibly ableist‘ is because they “insulted his intelligence” by saying “real smart fella we got here”. That’s not ableism in the slightest I feel. Allowing people like this to roam the server, where they could throw around shit like that just because they were offended, is generally not that good of a strategy. It’s a great way to cause accusations and drama though.
Locking the thread instead of genuinely handling the situation and person who was targeting harassment (because people didn’t agree with his opinion, btw. he was public about ❌ing a suggestion so he could grief and the suggestion was to literally prevent griefing with a specific special floor, you figure it out. of course people aren’t going to agree with jack the griefer here.) is a very odd and unfair way of handling the situation. Why did that persons thread have to be locked for someone elses actions? Why kill an entire suggestion for that? There was one arugment in that thread. That one guy. And the entire thing gets shut down. How disappointing.
Also, he came into the suggestion saying it was a “skill issue suggestion” after he blocked the op, the op had blocked him back as well, so there was really no point to doing it. He was purposely causing shit at that rate, which should’ve been handled. but it wasn’t.
The server mods genuinely tire me sometimes. When it comes to handling things they’re not the best. Tickets go unanswered for days— which is especially bothersome to me personally.
Also the fact that some of the devs / VAs have several strikes or actively have made jokes that are banned in the server (ex the person in workshop having a 9/11 banner & Gregoriahs VA saying a 9/11 joke on donator stage) is insanely hypocritical. Whatever your stance is on these jokes are, I hope you can at least agree with it being heavily hypocritical and that they shouldn’t be made in a huge server like that.
Can’t make a KMS joke in that server either, but Stat saying kill yourself can certainly make it onto the starboard and not be taken down! It’s pure hypocrisy at some point. I don’t know, I don’t understand.
I really just wish that server was handled better. It feels like a mess they can barely control otherwise. I feel bad that they have to even deal with it— because it feels like a nightmare, but also I just feel concerned for the way the server is handled because of that bit.
They definitely need more mods at the very least. That server is way to big for that little amount of moderators.
..Also, why is Dandy’s World not unblacklisted yet? I don’t like the game at all, but at the very least, I know those assets were replaced and the drama is over. The whole reason of it still being blacklisted was the assets being in-game still, but they’re gone.
(+ Apparently Sr Pelo is blacklisted as well despite it not being listed anywhere? When emotes were being suggested, Spooky Month was shot down because ‘Sr Pelos a bad person’ when I don’t even know what the hell thats about. Spooky Month is literally everywhere I can think of so it stands out to me that specifically Axosun has a issue with it.. because of.. something???)

Love being one of the other like 10 people who care about Annie as a character outside of her relationship to Finnick and I love reading your thoughts on her! If you had to list it how do you think your Annie is different from canon Annie?
thank you!!! always great to be in the company of like minded Annie enjoyers who care about her as a character in her own right 💜 this is a great question…it’s kind of hard for me to answer because we know so little about Annie and I try to ground myself in canon and just build out from what we know, but these are some of the main differences I see:
In the source material, Annie comes across as very passive. there’s a reason outside of ableism that the fandom views her that way, and that’s because in the books she’s constantly at the whim of others and has very little agency. I don’t write her like that at all, I always try and make her an active player in her life.
I’d say about 90 percent of the time, the image I have of her in my head is not that of a white woman, and we never get clarity on that in the books. her being a woman of color means that she’d navigate the world differently and ableism would manifest differently when directed towards her.
I see her as a conflicted mother. We don’t know her feelings towards motherhood from canon necessarily, but I think we can extrapolate from SC’s feelings towards motherhood that show up in her other characters that in her mind, Annie is excited to be a mom, and I’ve never seen her that way. being a single mom is so hard. being mentally ill and a mom is even harder, she won’t escape scrutiny and she’ll constantly live with the threat of them trying to take her baby. I think she thought about it long and hard and still has doubts sometimes.
I think I make Annie a little less reliant on Finnick and more independent than she actually is in the source material. that’s my bias, I don’t like writing women that rely heavily on men, but the fact of the matter is that in canon she is pretty reliant on him and it’s an ugly truth that many of us don’t confront. I’m trying to be better about that though because my resistance to that concept is coming from personal biases
last thing is probably that I think Annie is a little more trusting in canon than I usually write her. In Thirteen just the fact of Finnick being there makes her feel safe and relaxed and she trusts her surroundings (you can kind of see this in the cafeteria scene). I don’t think that’s necessarily realistic, but it is canon, so I need to tackle it somehow.

hullo guys, it’s about time i made a new introduction post! and so, here it is! if you don’t know who i am, then hi!! as mentioned earlier i’m kuni, a 16 yr old they/them with an adoration for lotf and most of all, my lotf oc!
but that’s probably not what you’re here for, a boring little introduction of me. this is named everettes-requiem after all, so you must be here for information pertaining the ask blog and everette!
well look no further! under the cut is all the necessary information you need to know, including and most importantly, the rules that you should read over.

CONTENT WARNING!
prefacing this by saying this ask blog will deal with some serious and heavy topics. if any of these trigger you then it's best not to interact with this blog for your safety, or re end of this section if you still do decide to look through my stuff! these topics include:
religious trauma
suicidal thoughts
internalized homophobia
neglect
emotional and mental abuse
violence
death
slight gore / blood
everything will be trigger warned and content warned appropriately! so if you still do want to go through my account, then just watch out for those, they will often be at the top of posts in bold. i want everyone to be safe, so be careful, thank you!
ABOUT THE BLOG + TAGS
everettes-requiem used to only serve as my oc blog, but now that my main is gone, it also serves as my own account to reblog and comment and reply to things out of character! aka just me, kuni!
i will always let people know whether it’s me who’s talking, or whether it’s everette who’s responding! i usually do so i using an em dash and typing out either name, for example
— everette ainsworth
— KUNI !!
even so, there’s a lot of stuff to sift through on my account and there’s bound to be more to come! that’s why i’ve compiled a list of tags that you can search in order to navigate my account properly, in which i will sort all my posts shortly. these tags include:
#everette answers
#pre island
#on island
#post island
#lore
#everette funfact
#kuni talks
#kuni reblogs
#kuni draws
#highschool au
#ainsley!
everettes-requiem currently is sticking to answering asks. thus, there is no set story, at least not one that has enough revealed about it yet. meaning, content will be non-linear and is based on the content of the ask. however, in the near future, i promise things will answer themselves.
for now though, like i said, the ask blog will be mostly answering asks! it’ll also involve sending asks to other accounts, and also responding to other accounts that aren’t just asks! here and there, there will be posts that reveal bits of everette's backstory, and of course some shitposts too for fun!
ASKS/RULES
while this is an everette blog, other lotf characters are also open for asks, as long as the ask has some sort of relation to everette. other ocs can also interact with everette, they are more than welcome!
addtionally, i'd say that more serious or darker asks are allowed. lotf itself is a book with darker subjects. though of course, there are some rules that should be followed.
1. be patient. you should ask as many asks as you'd like, i encourage it! but please dont send the same one multiple times. i have a life outside of my blogs and asks will be answered as quickly as they can.
2. do not be discriminatory (ableism, racism, transphobia, etc) please leave this blog if you are discriminatory because we do not want you here!
3. this goes without saying but no nsfw asks. lotf is a book full of twelve year olds at the most and everette himself is a young minor. it's just plain gross.
other than that the blog is yours to ask whatever you'd like! this place is welcome to anybody and anyone really.
now i know that was a lot to read through but thank you if you did stick to the end! now go interact with everette!! no promises you'll like the response, but i hope it'll still be fun for you guys 𓆝⋆˚

understanding
intent :
the purpose of my original post was to educate on the principals of basic respect, and hopefully create a more positive sturntumblr community. of course, it didn't work that way, as many have seen. the whole situation was blown way out of proportion, and didn't need to be as big as it turned out for the comment that was made. i personally never thought what @bernardsbendystraws said was the worst thing i'd seen the night that i made that post, but it became the main focus of the conversation because i had reached out trying to explain how i had already seen others upset by the small comment, and she was triggered by it. she's entitled to have her own opinion and emotions on the topic, but i was bothered by how my words and intentions were being completely misconstrued.
i admit, i definitely should've just ignored it, but seeing as i pride myself on being an honest person, getting accused of being otherwise was getting under my skin. there were even times that i would post something with the thought in mind that it'd be my last because i no longer saw any point in arguing, and then i'd get upset all over again by the response. although i defended myself in the most mature way i could, i recognize that not responding at all would've been better. i'm not a hateful person, and i feel as even though i tried to come at it with a good heart, what i posted made it seem like i wanted to spread negativity. for that, i'm sorry.
still, i'm not sorry for saying what i did in my original post, as i feel as though the respect is still needed. although the topic of conversation was about religion because that was the most recent problem, i believe it stands for many other things within this fandom if we would like to keep a strong and healthy community. this goes for things like gender, sexual orientation, race, ect. not just religion. respect is so crucial.
hate :
i was notified after responding to some of the things in my inbox, there were people sending @muwapsturniolo, a beautiful black woman, disgusting, racist asks on my behalf. i, myself am exactly half black, but even if i weren't, i've made it very clear that i don't stand for racism, homophobia, ableism, and more in my 'about me' post pinned on my page. i'm still not quite sure how to respond to the disgusting things i saw being left in peaches' inbox, as i'm in utter disbelief that someone would have the audacity to do that and claim it was to defend me. first off, i didn't need defending, and definitely not if the only way you can 'defend' someone is by sending them the most disrespectful, hurtful things i think i've ever seen in my life.
i had taken the anons i was getting as mere support, but am now recognizing that within that support, there was a lot of bashing of another person, despite me claiming i wouldn't tolerate that. it was 100% my mistake. me, peaches, and rose clearly weren't happy with each other, and i would say still really aren't, but nowhere within our drama did that give anyone the right to say what they did to peaches. she simply didn't deserve it.
aftermath :
this situation is over with. i stand on what i said about respect, rose is done talking about it, and peaches is continuing on with her break, hopefully in peace. i've never been in tumblr drama before, and i don't plan on being in any more, but that doesn't mean i won't stand up for what's right. hopefully, if needed, in full private.
i see all of the things still in my inbox that show genuine support, and i'm forever grateful. i also see all of the stories from people who feel like they've finally been given a voice after they've had problems with rose, and i'm not here to silence them. i will no longer be responding to those anons, but keep in mind that this doesn't mean i don't agree with some of the points that have been made in them. i won't be entertaining the hate whatsoever, but if you feel the need to speak to someone about a problem you're having in the community, even if it's not worded in the most respectful way possible, my inbox is always open. i'll read, but won't be posting, or giving my own opinion on it
still, i don't want to be seen as some hero for doing/saying what i felt was right, nor do i want to be seen as a victim to this drama. i'm happy to have seen that so many people agree with me, as it makes me feel as though most people in this fandom do have basic respect, which could be grounds for building such a healthy environment.
i will actually no longer be posting about the drama with rose and peaches whatsoever, and be going back to doing what my blog was made for, writing. i encourage others to stop posting about it too, as we don't need more opinions put in on our problems, and all i've wanted was a more understanding + respectful community.
