Heatwave stares at the bags he's packed.

The room is still just as full without his stuff, which doesn't make him feel any better about this. His guardians assured him that they weren't going to replace him as soon as he left, that they're done taking in sparklings, even with the extra space now.

The thought is nice, but Heatwave doesn't believe them, because he's heard that line too many times without any evidence backing it up. Which he doesn't really hold against them, he loves everyone that lives in his home, it's just...

It's not just regular jitters- sure, this is his first time leaving home, his first time alone, of course he's going to be nervous.

But he's not nervous. He's scared.

Heatwave really should bring up the strange hallucinations he’s been having with his guardians.

His tanks will oddly cramp, he’ll see things in the corners of his optics, or his visual input will suddenly become shimmery and swirly, as he watches events play out before they do.

Now, Heatwave has heard of outliers before. He’s not stupid. But he never thought…

Yet all the signs are there. He’s able to do something no one else can, or rather, something happens to him that doesn’t happen to anyone else. He overproduces coolant and runs hotter than any other mech.

He shouldn’t tell anyone. Outliers are required to be documented by the government, and Heatwave hasn’t heard too many stories of mechs being whisked away to government facilities never to be seen again, as their abilities are exhausted while the government tries to turn them into some sort of weapon.

So no, he’s not telling anyone.

“Heatwave!”

Snapdragon’s voice floats to his audials from downstairs.

“Coming!” He shouts back, leaving his stuff laid on his berth.

The living room is the center of a rare moment of peace- the sparklings are all down for naps, while the older mechs are all out and about. He can see the twins bickering quietly in the kitchen, though.

Snapdragon is standing next to the couch, while Hard Drive, his other guardian, leans on it towards her.

They’re both tall and bulky mechs, bigger than Heatwave. He hates feeling small, but it doesn’t feel so bad when he’s next to them.

“C’mere, kiddo,” Hard Drive says, grinning with badly disguised excitement. “We gotcha somethin’!”

Snapdragon produces a little box and with a grin to match Hard Drive’s, shoves it into Heatwave’s hands. “Go on, open it!” she encourages.

He does, keeping his field tight to his frame so his guardians don’t pick up on the feeling of foreboding he can’t seem to shake.

It’s a universal translator. Heatwave’s tanks drop.

“It was a while of savin’ up,” Snapdragon starts to explain, clapping her hands together with glee. “But so worth it. Our little Heatwave’s gonna be a Rescue Bot!”

Seemingly oblivious to his inner turmoil, both Heatwave’s guardians sweep him up into a crushing hug.

Primus. I can’t tell them I don’t want to go now!

Heatwave worries his lip between his fangs, but returns the hug. “Thank you,” he murmurs.

I have to… I have to at least try.

The idea of somone who only went down the path of crime because of their past.

Closing their eyes, ready for the punishment they take a deep breath. The air shifting from an overwhelming mixture of cologne to wet wood with a hint of a fishy taste. Opening their eyes they looked to see they where no longer bound by chains. The sound of children laughing, adults scolding some and graveled steps changing to stone. Raising their head a building made of dusty brown bricks and dark stained wood stood, a few feat infront of them being a golden gate that connected to brick walls that caged the children and caretakers inside.

They remembered the gate being chipped, the smell of rain in the air, the feeling of stones and dirt in their hair stuck to their skin. This was the last place they would have expected. Why here? And when? When was this exactly, thoughts racing through their mind as they watched the children running around, untill their eyes caught a young girl, her hair as long as her heals, running to a boy, hair almost shaved, that looked just a little older than her. She hid behind him as a group carrying rocks showed up. One had a handful of worms. They couldn't hear what was being said, but they already knew. This was the day they made up their mind. Looking at their hands they turned around and headed to the nearest place they might be able to be hired at. Three years is all they have, and if their punishment is to watch history repeat itself they'll raise the dead before they let that happen. They'll have everything they need in one, should they be able to change fate, no one will take this chance away from them, no one will.

With eyes too dry to gloss over they find the best job they know will pay them good and won't ask any questions. The Daisy butcher always needed someone. In three months they should be able to afford an apartment. In five they should be able to stay up on food. In a year, should they only buy a meal a day, they should have enough to prove legible to the head, given that place never cared for who payed for their "product"s.

The gate had chips, the edges trying to show its rust. Longer than planned, almost two years. The path up to the doors was open, two kids, one with a small rolling suitcase, the other with a simple purse and doll. Right infront of them stood the young girl, her hair messy and chopped. The young boy's hair pulled back now, standing infront of her. A bloody month too late, why couldn't the plan have gone perfectly? Just a month, but still, they're early enough.

The two seemed hesitant as they followed the large person, their hands where wrapped in bandages and a bag that had an apron just slightly hanging out of it. They where unsure how to feel. After some time they stood infront of a small porch. It was a red brick and dark wooded building that had several doors lined in it front, each with a porch, a light, and a number. The person opened the door and gently motioned towards the door.

The inside was a small tv and a peach sofa with sewn patches was covered by a thin flower patterned blanket. The walls had realistic sketches of flowers held by what looked like tape and there where old looking bookcases lining the wall ending right at the open walkway to another room. They didn't seem to have many books on them a handful seemed painted and others like school books that still had the "price off" stickers on them.

The person carefully directed their stuff to a chipped desk that faced the window. Placing their stuff there and finally closing the door they smiled at the two, one with mouth wide with wonder, a glitter in her eyes, the other shock, his eyes glossing over as realization washed over him.

"Welcome home."

“What the fuck do you mean by you don’t want to?” If Price had been any louder, anyone outside his car would’ve been able to hear him.

It had been a few months into your relationship with Price after almost a year of being friends with benefits. You weren’t sure how your arrangement changed over time but you were glad to be with him as he valued you a lot.

“I mean, think about it. You’re like, what? 40-“

“I’m 37, love”

“Right, yeah, I just think that it doesn’t really matter as long as we’re having fun together. Honestly, I thought you’d agree,” you said before taking a bite out of your burger.

Price could only watch you in shock. Sure, your relationship started on the basis of sexual benefits but when he did think of the future all he thought of was you. Even if you were a generation younger than him, he had never felt such synergy with anyone before. It was a connection of a lifetime - emotional and sexual.

“So you don’t give a shit about marriage because you think I don’t care about it.”

“Kind of. If I’m gonna get married I need my partner to be on board too, don’t you think?” He sighed at your reply. You looked up at him, confused and cheeks full with your dinner as you grabbed the plastic cup of coke.

His heart swelled at the sight. It was like looking at an innocent chipmunk. To think that the same face looked fucked out an hour ago awed him but he couldn’t let himself get distracted by your unintentional seduction.

He grabbed your drink and put it back in the cupholder. You were about to whine but he grabbed your face and pulled you close, noses almost touching.

“You—“ peck “—are the most wonderful thing to happen to me and I’ll be damned if I don’t tie you down with me in the future.”

Your face heated up. You had swallowed your food not too long ago but your mouth felt like it had gone dry.

With your face in his hands he continued. “I’ll have a rock on your pretty little finger before you know it.” He left a longer peck on your lips this time and pulled away.

What you didn’t know was that he already had a ring for you. It was stored away in a hidden drawer in his desk, waiting to be worn by you.

In fact, he had brought it just a month into your relationship. He wasn’t religious but he knew that a person like you was the blessing of a lifetime.

So now I'm reading up on symptoms for it and orz... augh...

Im completely reworking the boys Mahko had with Mimi, because recently I've wanted the kids in my OC universe to have a more active roll in the story instead of being forgettable, useless background characters or props.

The boys have new names and personalities and everything. Mimi is unable to keep them from reuniting with Mahko when they become preteens/teens, unlike originally where he never sees them again after he and Mimi get divorced. Also they're going to end up with complicated/more negative feelings about their mother because I wanna add a dash of my own mommy issues into their narrative lol. But they've also got weird feelings about their dad since he was kicked out of their home when they were both young (another bit of my own issues/trauma lmaoo)

They both eventually go on to completely move in with Mahko and go no-contact with Mimi, much to her anger. I think it'll help motivate her to enact revenge and try to harm/kill Mahko and his friends even moreso than before. After all, someone with nothing left to lose is very dangerous to deal with.
