you've seen the shop! it's that. with a cozy upstairs with lots of pillows. very Howl's Moving Castle esque decor going on in there too

eventually Faunus, yeah! he tries very unsuccessfully to lure pigeons and stuff to him with pumpkin bread. he's definitely an animal lover and tries to pet anything

Nope.

2. when was the last time you cried?

Just 15 minutes ago. My brother died earlier this year and this is our first Christmas without him.

Yes. 1 adult and 2 older teens.

4. what sports do you play/have you played?

I ran Cross Country when I was younger, but these days I'm pretty sedentary.

5. do you use sarcasm?

Only when writing. I am unusually kind in person.

8. scary movies or happy endings?

Happy endings. I used to love horror, but stopped when I had young babies in my house. For some reason, the horror hit harder and was anxiety inducing instead of fun. These days the only horror I enjoy has to be really smart and beautiful (ie Hannibal) so that a different part of my brain is engaged while watching.

I speak 5 languages and pick them up pretty easily. I am also a good writer and okay artist. My home is full floor to ceiling my art (and my kids' art) and full of quirky art installations too. Yet it's all very tasteful and gets lots of compliments with lots of people telling me is magazine-worthy.

The sound makes you feel warm. He's speaking only to you. Only you. And he's not being critical. You can catch the mirth in his eyes, alight by the twinkling stars on screen.

Karras’s prayer rings out within the church and is reciprocated by the congregation. You sit in a back corner by the pipe organ, reading an unpublished chapter of Father Merrin’s latest dig report (which you still can't believe he loaned you). Truth be told, you do still yearn a little for the high arches and warm sounds of a nave. A corner of your heart aches for the carpeted floors and creaking pews, the light streaming in through stained glass depicting saints and martyrs.

Your eyes drift to Betty, the organist, and her nimble hands on the keys. She's older than you but not elderly, maybe 40s, and has proven to be kindly and realistic: your two favorite traits. You love listening to her play. She's always in the pocket of the rhythm which keeps you on your toes. It's easy to get distracted by her playing.

Except you don't get distracted from Father Karras suddenly pausing during his recitations. You lower your reading and furrow your brows in curiosity. You give Betty a glance and she shrugs her shoulders and continues playing.

When you look back to Karras he's back into his flow, but you see his eyes flick up to the congregation, then to you, the back down to the prayer book. You're hesitant to let it go, but you force yourself to keep reading and check on him later.

He has office hours. He said so. So it would be no problem at all for you to pay him a visit. Right? Right???

Right. So, you gather your courage and knock on the door to the little white cottage out the side of the church..

“Come in.”

You let yourself in. Damien's desk is situated against the right wall and he turns to you when you enter.

“Y/n,” He says, his eyes betraying a slight surprise.

“May I come in?”

“Of course. Can I get you anything, coffee, water, tea?” He stands from his desk and moves to get you a drink and you sit.

“No thanks, I'm good.”

He stops, awkwardly grips his hand like he’s missing something, then returns to his seat, but moves it to face you.

“Alright. So how are you settling in? How are you feeling?”

You shouldn’t be surprised he’d ask about your wellbeing. It’s his job. You give a tight smile.

“Good.”

He nods.

“Good.”

“Say; and I hope this isn't too presumptuous, but I wanted to ask…are you okay? I mean, I've only noticed the past couple weeks you've been…distracted, I suppose. And I think I wouldn't have been able to go around if I didn't check on you.”

Maybe it’s the priest in him, but for a moment you notice a flash of something across his dark countenance. But just as soon as you see it, it is gone.

“I'm fine, thank you for asking. What about you?”

You raise your eyebrows.

“Me?”

He splays his hands like it’s obvious.

“I can imagine the transition from Rome back to Georgetown could be jarring.”

You nod thoughtfully.

“It is, but at least it's familiar.”

“Have you seen your family at all?”

The question catches you off guard. Your pulse quickens and you palms sweat. How- does he not know?

“I'm sorry?”

“Your family, Joseph Dyer said that you had family nearby.”

Oh. Oh, he didn’t know. You suppose there’s no reason any of them should. Still, it’s unsettling.

“Oh, he must have misunderstood, or maybe I wasn't clear. My family passed in a house fire when I was in Rome.”

Damien’s face darkens. “Oh, I'm sorry.”

You shake the sentiment away as you’ve heard it a hundred times. It’s not that you don’t believe him or can’t appreciate it, but after so long the words lose meaning.

“No, don't be. Georgetown was my brother's favorite place. It reminds me of him.”

Damien relaxes into his chair.

“What was his name?”

“William. He was younger than me.”

“Tell me about him.”

“Um, he was inexhaustibly kind, but hilarious. I mean he was the funniest person I knew.”

“Really?”

“Oh yeah. I think you two would've gotten along great. He was brilliant. He uh, wanted to be a civil engineer when he got out of school. He was 19.”

“He sounds like a wonderful young man.”

“He was.” You sniffle as tears began to fall. “Shit, are you gonna have to bill me?”

Damien laughs, actually laughs for the first time in front of you. Everything else up till now has been guarded chuckles and passive hums.

“No. Technically since you're a student you're entitled to free therapy.”

“Hm. Good to know.” You wait a moment, watching him. “You’re sure you’re fine?”

The lie slips from his lips with ease.

“Yes.”

“You know it’s a sin to tell a lie. Ink Spots said so.”

Back to a hum.

“I’ll keep it in mind. Is there anything else?”

Oh. Does he want you to leave?

You wring your hands in your lap but shake your head.

“No, that was all.”

You stand to go and Damien sees you out. As you exit, a young priest passes you to visit Damien, and when you turn around to give a final parting, the door has already closed.

The next morning you are right on time for the daily jog. It’s not every day, but often that you and Damien cross paths here. But today, you’re alone.

That’s strange. Where is he?

No water bottle or towel in sight. The early morning is clear and cold and you can see around the entire track. No, totally alone.

You try not to dwell too much on it. It is getting colder every day, perhaps he’s sensitive to it. Maybe he has early mass this morning and you simply forgot. All of those seem more settling than the alternative that your gut twists into a likely truth. That he was lying yesterday.

When you make your first lap and return to the bleachers, there he is, setting down his things and removing his windbreaker to reveal his sweatshirt underneath. You slow before him but he doesn’t look at you.

“Wow, I’m never here before you. Everything alright?”

Damien nods but when you catch even the side of his face, markings of haggardness and exhaustion are evident in the droop of his eyes, the lines of his face.

“Sure. Had a bit of a time getting up this morning.”

You brace your hands on your hips.

Ah. Fuck it.

“I understand that. Listen, Father…” You catch yourself. Maybe you’ll have better luck with the personal angle. “ Damien . Would you want to see a movie tomorrow? They’re showing It’s a Wonderful Life at the theater and I go every time it’s on. I like to sit in the back and make stupid commentary and…” You notice now that he’s looking at you and grinning. “...I’m not selling this, am I?”

“On the contrary, I’d say you made a compelling case. Sure, why not?”

A wide grin breaks across your face that you don’t try to hide. “Alright. I’ll pick you up at the cottage. Five alright?”

“Five is fine. Alright, care to run?”

Well, of course you’re distracted for the rest of the day, and how could you not be? You’re only going to be sharing your favorite movie with someone you now consider a good friend.

It has to cheer him up , you think. It simply has to.

The next day you actually have to attend a lecture, so you tuck yourself into a seat in the back of the hall and scribble mindlessly on your notepad. You have to start writing your thesis soon and you have to admit to yourself that you haven’t exactly made strides on it.The book of hymns proved fruitful, but you were otherwise occupied with Father Merrin’s report. That, and thoughts of a dark haired priest.

The bell rings and your stomach knots. Doubt creeps in.

Gee, what if this was the wrong move? I mean, what do you expect?

Your professor calls your name before you have a chance to dart out. Dr. Lance, an aging woman in her sixties, smart spectacles perched on a small nose, approaches you, her large frame taking only a few strides before she is upon you.

“I couldn’t help but notice you sitting in the back today.”

You blush and hold your books closer to your chest. “Yes, I’m not feeling well and wanted to be close to the exit in case I needed to leave. I didn’t want to be a distraction.”

Dr. Lance hums. “How are things at the church?”

“They’re fine. I’m learning lots.”

“Good. I’ve spoken with Father Merrin a handful of times-”

“I didn’t realize you knew him.”

“Oh, yes. Going on two decades now. He told me that you’ve been spending quite a bit of time reading his Kuwait Report, and spending time with one of the priests. What was his name?”

You swallow through a dry throat. “Father Karras?”

“Yes, that was it. Kind man. I understand it’s a new environment with many points of interest, but I have a responsibility to remind you of your purpose there. I’m sure Lankester’s report is fascinating, but will it aid you in your thesis?”

You force yourself to meet her eyes. “No, probably not.”

“I’m not dictating your free time, mind you. You’re a grad student, you’re an adult. But I also know how an experience like this can host distractions.”

You had been ready to flee the conversation at the soonest chance, but you linger at her words.

“What do you mean?”

“Well, for the sake of professionalism, I’ll simply say that…well, institutions often have a way of drawing us in before we really know we’re there.”

And God help you, you laugh. Dr. Lance’s brows pull together in scrutiny.

“What?”

“It’s just…the idea of being tempted by a church . It’s funny, is all.”

Dr. Lance seemed to be out of things to say so she lets you go. You rush back to your apartment and tear through your closet, your conversation shaving off five minutes of your time, that and the class had run over a bit. You're stuck on what to wear. Not too casual, but not too flirty. Definitely not anything flirty. Maybe something that makes you feel beautiful, handsome, nice. Yes, that's it. Nice.

So you find something nice and adjust your appearance in the mirror. A brush here, a flick there; maybe he won't notice. Maybe he will.

You arrive at the cottage at 4:57. You're glad you wore a coat as the wind breaks through the scraggly trees and bare shrubberies.

At 5:02 the screen door to the cottage opens and Damien steps out in his windbreaker. He notices you appearance almost immediately and smiles as he locks the door behind him.

“Well, you look nice. Now I feel underdressed.”

Nice.

“Well, there's probably still enough time to throw on a cassock if that's fancy enough.”

He laughs at you again and you two begin walking. You crane your neck over to look at his shirt. He leans away.

“What?”

“Your collar. You're not wearing it. I didn't think you all were allowed out without them.”

It's true, Damien is wearing a corded black turtleneck, something that compliments him quite nicely.

“Well, we wouldn't want everyone to know.”

“That you're a priest?”

“Sure. Aside from the hundred something people we see every week in mass, it's a phenomenally well kept secret.”

You throw your head back in laughter. He seems to be in better spirits. Good , you think.

You two approach the kiosk and you insist on paying for both the tickets.

“Priests resign themselves to a life of poverty, right? Consider it a donation to the church.”

It's a joke and one he mildly chuckles at, but seems to maybe lower his head when the ticketer hands you back the tiny slips of paper.

“First room on the right.”

As the two of you walk in, you begin to ponder. Perhaps he was telling a partial truth earlier. Perhaps he forwent the collar so people wouldn't recognize a priest out with a grad student. But why would they care? Georgetown was overflowing with Jesuits and students. Surely there's bound to be overlap.

Still, there's something knocking at the back of your brain. Almost as if you feel it too. Some foreign scrutiny that you can fight all you want to dismiss as ridiculous, presumptuous. But still.

You two make it to the back of the auditorium and settle into your seats. There's only a handful of other couples dispersed throughout.

Other ?

You focus on the film.

“What's wrong, is he sick?”

“Worse, he's discouraged.”

This part always, always sends you into a tizzy and you find yourself laughing out loud. You turn a couple heads and shrink down into your seat, giggling.

“Do you do that a lot?” Damien whispers.

The sound makes you feel warm. He's speaking only to you. Only you. And he's not being critical. You can catch the mirth in his eyes, alight by the twinkling stars on screen.

“Oh, it's just getting started.”

By the time George and Mary are walking back from the party, your feet are propped up on the empty seat in front of you and you and Damien are both munching on a bag of popcorn you left to get earlier.

“ Oh buffalo girls won't you come out tonight, won't you come out tonight, won't you come out tonight. Buffalo girls won't you come out tonight, aaaaand dance by the light of the moon.”

You sing along quietly, knocking your feet together lightly. If you weren't so engrossed in one of your favorite scenes, you would notice Damien watching you.

“I thought you didn't like romance movies.”

You flash him a grin. “Eh. This doesn't count.”

But when Mary and George draw close together and it seems as though they may just kiss, you feel that same flutter you get in your chest every time.

Oh, what you wouldn't give to be looked at like that.

If you were paying even a little more attention, you may be thinking that you were.

After the movie, he offers to walk you home. You accept.

“Thanks for coming with me tonight. I get a lot more strange looks when I go by myself.”

“Well, thanks for getting me out. I don't really do these kinds of things. I'm not sure why. I suppose I have the time.”

“Sometimes it just takes someone asking, you know?”

He gives you a loaded look. “Yeah, I do.”

Whatever his intended implication is, you fight a blush. You chalk it up to the cold. You two approach your apartment. You fiddle with your keys.

“Would you like to come up for a few minutes? Warm up?”

And that’s all you want. Just to offer him brief shelter. He looks at the ground and you already know his reply.

“I’m not sure I should. It’s getting late.”

Ah. He can color it any way he likes but you know the true meaning of his words. You bite your lip- an anxious habit your mother had always discouraged.

“Have I done something to make you uncomfortable?”

His eyes widen. “No- goodness, no. I have the five o’clock mass tomorrow.”

“Makes sense.”

“Which means I won’t be at the track, either.”

“It’s fine.” You give him a smile. “Well, goodnight, Father.”

You turn to leave but a hand reaches out and catches your arm. Not a grab or a grip, but a gentle laying upon your coat. You face him again.

“I really do hate to cancel on you.”

“It’s fine, Damien. Really.”

He presses his lips together in measured thought. “It’s nothing else.”

You search his eyes for some truth. What does he mean ? It’s nothing but circumstance that he can’t come up, can’t meet tomorrow morning? Or is it something worse: the time spent is nothing else? You know what the else is. It’s gut-wrenchingly devastating, despite your supposed absence of expectations.

“Alright,” is all you can think to say. You move from his touch and return to your apartment. From the window facing the street, you watch as he rubs his mouth, glances out to the street, and then eventually makes his careful way back to the cottage. You draw a bath and heat up some tea. Both scalding waters still can’t manage to quell the chill within.

To call it angst is perhaps overselling the yearning happening there, but probably protective measures.

What do you mean "favorite"? I'm supposed to pick? I can't even pick a current favorite, considering I'm writing a whole polycule of various ships for G&D and I love them all.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

I've accepted that my older unfinished works are going to stay that way, but sometimes I do think about The Journey. The end of that fic was going to involve Jinora and Opal leaving the Eastern Air Temple, to be followed by a sequel where they travelled to Zaofu, then the Southern Water Tribe, and then through the Fire Nation. The third story in the series would have brought them to Republic City, where they would establish Air Temple Island. The story as I began it just had too many plot holes, though, and I ended up losing interest in the primary romantic relationship.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I think I do a decent job with pacing. It turns out that I'm good at planning out a cohesive narrative that will play out over the course of a series; working out the snags is part of the fun. I like when unnoticed details are given greater/changed meaning or depth later on. (I learned that from @ourimpavidheroine!) Oh and my friends say I write pining well, LOL.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Figuring out plots driven by anything but the characters' emotional beats. (This is why I've written thousands of words of fanfic this year, and simply cannot get an original novel out of the planning stages.) I so wish I could write a complicated political plot, or a mystery, but I think those things are beyond me. Weaving in description alongside dialogue is also tricky for me, I always feel like I fall into using the same phrases over and over.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I don't speak any other languages well enough to do it, but it would be very neat.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Pokemon, *way* back in the day.

20. Favourite fic you’ve ever written?

*gasp* How dare you make me pick just one. I guess it has to be hello, my old heart, though. I just am so proud of that fic. It's not just that it's the kind of thing that I've dreamed of writing for a long while (slowburn, lots of yearning, LONG) but that I managed to do it during a summer where I was struggling with just about everything else in my life. I'm very fond of the world it's set in, and I have so many plans for both prequels and sequels to it.

1. Are you named after anyone?

I was going to be named after my uncle if I was a boy, but that didn't work out. She didn't like the female version, so she went with something Christmas-y since I was born so close to Christmas.

2. When was the last time you cried?

Today, as a matter of fact. In a fit of rage while trying to dispose of a very stubborn and very rude cottonwood sapling.

3. Do you have kids?

No, but if I were in the right headspace and had a partner who wanted them and we were financially secure, I wouldn't mind adopting or fostering a couple.

4. Do you use sarcasm a lot?

It's one of my love languages. But I will admit to needing to lay off the snark once in a while.

5. What sports do you play/have you played?

I was a hockey player as a kid and I played soccer (football for you Europeans). Now, I take long walks with two obnoxious dogs and my parents. I'm not very sports oriented anymore due to a back injury.

6. What’s the first thing you notice about other people?

If they have a dog or not. I'm an anxious person and I don't like looking at people out of habit, but if there's a dog, I'm asking to pet it.

Green. The only 1% I'm part of is the percentage of the population with natural red hair and green eyes

I love happy endings and horror movies. And when a horror film has a happy ending? Even better.

I can unnerve a voice teacher with an unusual vocal range, maybe? My usual speaking voice is considered really low and normally shouldn't be able to clear three octaves. But my singing range is about four and a half octaves to five.

10. Where were you born?

Alaska and I have been stuck here for nearly thirty years. It's a beautiful state, don't get me wrong, but egads I want to leave. And no, we cannot see Russia from our house. That's in Wasilla and that's because of all the crystal meth they cook.

My favorite movie of all time is the Princess Bride. I watched it so much as a kid that I wore out the old VHS tape. My mom got a copy of the DVD and we quote it at the screen when we watch it sometimes to annoy my dad. (he loves it)

English and Social Studies. I was one of those kids who loved every book we read in class and would read ahead because I wanted to know what happened next. I read during class and got in trouble when I supposed to be doing work. And I'd read ahead in my history book to find out cool shit and then look that up in the library. The other kids thought I was weird as fuck. Wouldn't find out until I was 13 that I had The Autism™

15. Dream Job?

Used to be Disney World, but the Mouse destroyed my dreams and crushed my soul like a grape. Now it's something involving wild animal rehabilitation or something like that. I like critters and I want to help restore habitats and endangered species and things like that.

1: Are you named after anyone?

Nope, I did go through quite a few names though. I was almost named after my uncle, then had another temporary name, then finally they settled on the one I have today. I've almost changed it though!

2: When was the last time you cried?

Yesterday, but not for anything bad in my life. I was writing a response for @windchaser and the emotions and music got to me a little too much so I was all teary eyed lol. That and whenever I think about Tarhos and Haru from @bells-of-black-sunday my eyes get a wee bit wet-

3: Do you have kids?

Nooooo. I have a dog, cat, and 3 fat rats.

4: Do you use sarcasm a lot?

Oh yeah, I live and breathe it. I tend to only be very aggressively sarcastic with friends though, as I get really shy around new folks and am afraid of spooking anyone off with my secret sass.

5: What's the first thing you notice about people?

Oh man. In real life I'm really good at picking up cues through body language and the way people emote/speak. I'm really bad at emoting in real life particularly when it comes to strangers and I think it all goes into my "I can tell what youre thinking" power when I meet new people.

Blue!

7: Scary movies or happy endings?

I love horror movies with a passion despite being easily frightened by them, I tend to stay away from anything too realistic or that could relate to past trauma but if its supernatural count me in. Scream is actually my favorite movie franchise, now that I think on it, and I always love seeing what new things they come up with. Happy endings are fine too, but I prefer them to be earned--I find bittersweet endings usually sit better with me.

8: Any special talents?

I am trained in opera if that counts! You'll be hard pressed to hear me sing but yeah - I also am quite a good cook and I love making cosplay. Not sure if a talent but I have a very clear memory when it comes to sounds/instruments; my friend was playing genshin and there was a piece of the soundtrack that I immediately recognized as a small section of Rite of Spring by Igor Stravinsky. Then I found the part in Fantasia to show my friend. I don't know how.

Writing, art, singing, cooking, gardening, enjoying conspiracy videos way too much, reading, and cosplay too! I do a whole bunch of stuff.

I used to think I really wanted to go into graphic design and illustration - but I did and it was one of the worst experiences ever. I'm not exactly sure why, if it was the work or the environment - but it put an extremely bad taste in my mouth and I most likely won't pursue it again. I'm currently working as a contact analyst at an extremely kind company and I'm VERY happy. I don't dream of labor but this is really good for now. I muse about living someplace quiet with a few farm animals and my pets, just being able to grow my food and collect eggs--does that count? I used to have really big dreams of grandeur but I quickly realized that I enjoy my small life and my small job, I can pay my bills and have time off to do what I want, and lovely coworkers.

I'd love if I could just lay in a field with dandelions all day and count the clouds. I often think about this and how I wish the world was different in so that I could do that sort of stuff without worry. I could talk about it for a good while but it tends to border on Nihilism and I don't want to bother anyone with that--plus its a lot of my inner thoughts, and I don't want to plague dash with those since they can get intense, not in a bad way, its just something I muse on a lot.

On a brief break from filming season 4 of The Chosen, creator Dallas Jenkins agreed to a Zoom call with Deadline to discuss his new berth on The CW and the success of his series about the life of Jesus. He’s dressed the part: Jenkins is wearing a T-shirt that reads My Rabbi Walks on Water, one of several items that he’s now peddling through the show’s merch website.

Like he really needs the money from selling Chosen-inspired coffee cups and hoodies. What began as a crowdsourcing project on the Angel Studios app has turned into a global hit with over 110 million viewers in 175 countries, with plans to make The Chosen available in 600 languages. The series has generated 6.5 million followers across social media, made $35 million at box office in special-event theatrical releases and has spawned best-selling books, DVDs, graphic novels, and yes — walking on water tees.

In June, The CW followed Peacock, Netflix, Roku and BYUtv by picking up the first three seasons of the drama that stars Jonathan Roumie as the King of Kings. (After any theatrical release, the Angel Studios app and The Chosen app still have global exclusive rights in the first window for all existing and future seasons). The second season finale airs Oct. 27 on The CW, and the season 3 finale will on Christmas Eve.

DEADLINE Do you have a favorite statistic that you like to quote when speaking about the success of The Chosen?

DALLAS JENKINS I really do try to avoid caring about the stats because it can distract me from the work that I have to do. I [appreciate the] fact that the show is on The CW, that the show was in the top 10 on Amazon Prime, that the show is easy to watch on these platforms where you normally wouldn’t see a show like ours, and that there are so many people who are watching who aren’t traditional believers. Those are my favorite things. And when I saw The Chosen right next to Cocaine Bear on Amazon’s list, I think that was one of my most proud moments.

DEADLINE The Chosen can now be found on multiple platforms, including The CW. You’ve got that relatively new worldwide distribution deal with Lionsgate. Do you feel like an official member of Hollywood now?

JENKINS I don’t think I’ll ever feel like an official member of Hollywood, but it is great to partner with Hollywood companies on what they do best. There are some things we do that they can’t do, and there are some codes that we’ve cracked that haven’t necessarily been cracked before. We want to get into areas that we wouldn’t normally be able to go, service areas that Hollywood studios might not normally reach or audiences that they might not normally reach. When nitro meets glycerin, the best of both worlds combined! I love having my foot in both waters.

DEADLINE You got an interim agreement to film the fourth season. How were you able to achieve that?

JENKINS Like anyone else, you agree to the SAG terms that the AMPTP currently isn’t agreeing to. We had to do it. We had two weeks left of filming. We wanted to make sure that we could finish and we were happy to tell the world that we agreed to their terms. And when we were the only game in town, quite literally for a period of time, it increased our exposure and awareness around the world. As an independent it made it easier for us to come to this agreement with SAG.

DEADLINE What are your thoughts about the ongoing strike?

JENKINS I understand the struggle from both sides. I’m a creator, so obviously I understand the desire to be rewarded for your work when it’s more successful. I also understand the perspective of someone whose job it is to find financing for future seasons. It is an extraordinarily difficult time. Financing and income are not the same as they were five years ago, 10 years ago, 20 years ago. It is not as easy as it seems and we can see from our show — which is one of the most viewed shows in the world — it is still difficult to monetize. So there are parts of this dispute that I understand from both sides. I think it’s important that we try hard to put ourselves in the other’s shoes and to see if there’s a way that we can find a middle ground that benefits everybody.

DEADLINE Did I read correctly on a Wikipedia page that you got the epiphany for this series while mowing your lawn? Was that correct?

JENKINS It’s a little bit of a mix. When I was mowing the lawn, I got the idea to tell stories from my own experience and from my own faith, believing that would actually be more appealing to a wider audience, that I was trying too hard to kind of thread the needle. That’s what happened when I was mowing the lawn. The concept for the show came when I was making a short film for my church on my friend’s farm in Illinois. I was coming off of my biggest career failure, not knowing if I would ever make another project again. I was binge watching The Wire on HBO and I came up with the idea for the Jesus show. The Wire is a terrific show. It shows the sociopolitical dynamics, the people on the street, the people in the mayor’s office, the people in the police department. It’s similar to what happened in first century Galilee. There’s political, sociopolitical, religious divisions, and then there are people on the ground. The Chosen explores all of that, the relationships and the divisions. The Wire had a big influence.

DEADLINE Do you have a bible, so to speak, for the whole entire run of the show?

JENKINS Yes, we have a Bible, literally, for the show, but we also have a lowercase bible. We have plotted out the seven seasons. We’re not one of those shows that’s going to wander around. We’re going to last as long as the ratings are decent right now. If you are watching on The CW, as people are wrapping up season two heading into season three. They should know that when we started, we knew where we were going. We knew how this would end. We thinking the seventh season now. I just finished the writing season five because we know where the story goes and allows us the freedom to play within those boundaries. So yeah, we do have this plotted out, just not all of the scripts are written just yet.

DEADLINE When will the crucifixion occur?

JENKINS Season six and the resurrection will occur in season seven. Spoiler alert!

DEADLINE Do you have a writer’s room? Or are you it?

JENKINS There are two other writers. Three of us write every episode. We have a virtual and literal writer’s room that has served us well for these first four seasons and will not change over the next three.

DEADLINE With success comes the requisite criticism and how you have taken liberties with the story. How do you respond to that?

JENKINS We make no secret of the fact and are proud to say we are not the Bible. We are a TV show. Throughout Hollywood’s existence, there have been movies and television shows made about historical figures. There are some people who believe that Jesus and the disciples are the only ones who should never have a movie or TV show made about them. We disagree and so we are not begging people to watch it. If there are people who are uncomfortable with seeing anything that isn’t directly from scripture, we’re cool with that and you don’t have to watch the show. We do believe that what we are portraying, even when it’s not from scripture, is plausible historically and spiritually and culturally accurate. And so as long as we are not violating the character and intentions of Jesus and the gospels, we believe that we have freedom to explore what their lives would’ve been like. That has allowed people who aren’t traditional believers or who don’t read the Bible to appreciate these stories and perhaps want to know more.

DEADLINE Do you have a set list of dos and don’ts? Like, I won’t approach this the way, say, Mel Gibson would?

JENKINS Well, we certainly don’t want to do anything that contradicts the messenger themes of the Bible, but otherwise we don’t really have a lot of rules. We don’t show a white King James version of a speaking Jesus. We don’t want this to feel formal or presented. We’re obsessed with trying to be as authentic as possible, as human as possible. I do think that because of previous Jesus stories, particularly The Passion of the Christ or even some of the ones that aren’t very good or are very boring, the existence of these does give us a certain freedom to break out. When we get to the crucifixion, I don’t have to make it a bloodbath because Mel did it better than I ever could. If I just showed the faces of the disciples watching the crucifixion, that will be emotionally and spiritually devastating. Because Mel already did it, I believe I have more tools at my disposal than Mel did because I’ll have done multiple seasons of this. I’m not trying to compete with anybody else.

DEADLINE You don’t have a lot of competition in this space. There’s not a lot of people like you making this content. Does that mean the bar is low when it comes to appealing to the viewers?

JENKINS I think that we sometimes do benefit from the fact that there is not a lot of content out there that speaks to people of faith. Maybe we get some bonus points for that. That said, we have seen over and over again that audiences that don’t traditionally consider this type of entertainment are moved and loving the show as a historical drama. JENKINS I think it’s a legitimate concern that if a Hollywood studio ever has influence over our content, that it would be dangerous and could potentially impact the accuracy or authenticity of the stories that we’re telling. They’ve seen it before. There is a segment of the audience that feels like they’ve been burned in the past. That said, anyone who believes that a distributor helping get this content out to more people is a bad or dangerous thing, is being ignorant and selfish. Anyone who believes that this content is actually good should be cheering for the fact that Lionsgate is our partner. They’re getting this content into areas where it might not normally be. I have no ears for anyone who believes spreading this show out to the world is somehow a bad thing.

What's the origin of your blog title? It originated from my gamertag "Memento Mori" (I've already made a whole post about why I chose that one somewhere here on this blog) and often found it already used on social media since it isn't an uncommon phrase, so I decided to swap "mori" with "kore" because Kore is one of the names of Greek Goddess Persephone - and what can I say, I relate a lot to the Goddess of Spring and Queen of the Underworld, who is somehow both cottagecore and edgy, and if she can be both so can I

OTP(s) + Shipname: Oh god so many... I guess atm mostly Jayvik (Jayce & Viktor, Arcane), I've always shipped Destiel (Dean & Castiel, Supernatural), then of course there is Stolitz (Stolas & Blitzø, Helluva Boss) and Ineffable Husbands (Crowley & Aziraphale, Good Omens) but I honestly believe I have at least one OTP for every fandom and I cannot name them all here or it would take too long

What were you like as a child? I have been told I never really smiled at other people as a child (in contrast to my younger brother, who smiled at everyone), but instead just looked at them. Apparently I used to be quite confident and extroverted, holding speeches in front of other kids on the playground. That was before social anxiety and depression, and I don't really remember any of that

Favourite subject at school? Probably German (my native language) and English. I love writing and there I could do it. But all in all, every subject was interesting until they graded it

Least favourite subject: Maths. Heh. Cliché, maybe, but at some point I just didn't see a point in learning that shit, so I wasn't interested in it. I'm good at simple math and that's all I need in life

What's your best character trait? Uhh, empathy and compassion, maybe? I try to be the person who is helpful and kind, who is there for everyone who seems to need it. And I will defend the people I love without a second thought, verbally and physically

What's your worst character trait? Ooh I can definitely be selfish or stubborn in certain situations. I try to recognize it and be better. What I personally think is the worst though are trust issues, self-doubt and insecurity

If you could change any detail of your life right now, what would it be? I'd love to have money and influence, not because I wanna be rich and control everything, but because I think everyone deserves to be able to live their lives to the fullest and that's how I could make it happen. I want everyone to be able to use the one life they have on this earth to do things they enjoy. Be creative, relax, travel, live wherever you want, as long as you are kind and respect other people, I don't care what you do. Go and enjoy your time on this planet

If you could travel in time, who would you like to meet? Oh damn, I'm not sure I wanna meet any specific person. I'm more interested in just observing and being able to see for myself what past times were like. I'd love to see it all without interfering, just soaking up the atmosphere and vibes

In all honesty, to Edd, it feels refreshing having someone who's taller than him.

Now don't get him wrong, it doesn't matter to him how tall or short his s/o is. It just feels nice not having to look down at them so much like how he looks down to his friends.

After all, being the tallest of the group leaves him with many responsibilities, so having someone take over for him is pretty awesome in his book!

But it's not always him leaving some of his tall responsibilities on you. That's only 25% of the relationship.

Being the second tallest, Matt would probably adore a taller s/o! Height was also never a necessity with him, but in a way, he feels almost safer with an s/o who’s taller than him.

However, as time went on, he came to be more comfortable with you. Especially when you unexpectedly didn’t treat him any less for his height. In fact, in a way, you seemed even more attracted to him with the height difference!

He didn’t remember walking into a restaurant.

Cause Tord didn’t order a tall glass of water HAHA.

Yup, that was what he told his s/o when he met them. And somehow they didn’t pass away from cringe. But you know what? It was kind of charming, in a way, so they decided to keep him.

Tord can get very touchy, so an affectionate s/o would be just what the doctor ordered. He loves having his hair played with by you, his arms wrapped around your neck while having his head tilted up to stare up at you with that signature grin on his face.

He’s kind of like Tom when it comes to PDA, but that’s only cause he paints himself as this tough, big guy.

But he’ll never outright reject his s/o’s affections, oh no! In fact, he’ll end up showing them off, pretending that it’s no big deal. Tord will have his head leaning on their shoulder, both hands trailing up and down their waist. And if he’s feeling cheeky, his hands might trail lower in an attempt to rile them up. Being taller than him is one of the biggest power moves to him. He scored this affectionate babe that’s taller than him? Hell yeah...

Tord thinks he has you attached to him, but of course it’s the other way around. Most of the time.

As much as he holds up his tough guy persona, the poor Norwegian is actually pretty submissive. Having an s/o who’s more on top (in ways more than one) can help Tord just relax and catch a break.

Pretends like he’s unaffected by their affection, but don’t take it as him being uncomfortable. Just know that Tord is gonna be on his bed rolling around and kicking his feet, giggling like a schoolgirl who has a crush! Flirting like it’s the first time you met him will get his knees turning into jelly, but he’ll shoot back his own little flirts to see what gets his s/o to blush or lose their train of thought.

You’re both playing chess, so you both always remember the little things that make your brows scrunch up in stupidly funny cringe or leave you both in heated, stuttering messes.

One of the prime examples is those little sweet hugs from behind you’ll give him. Tord’ll smirk but reciprocate the affection, letting you know he knows you’re there. But bending down to rest your chin on his shoulder, whatever you were saying slowly turning into sweet words of affection, telling him how much you love him will get him warm almost instantly. A sensitive spot of his is his neck, so leaving kisses there will have him leaning back into you, mumbling curses in his mother tongue.

Of course, that’s only one of the many times his s/o has gotten him all shy like this, as much Tord denies remembering such moments.

But there’s this sort of safety he feels when he’s with them.

Day 0

It is my unemployed diary. In this project, I will write about the time in 2023 when I quit my job and started applying for a scholarship in Korea. Hopefully, when I, the future version, reread this diary remember the time I lived and tried to achieve my dream. At the same time, in 2024, I hope to be proud and say thank me in the present. 

In fact, I started my study abroad plan in September 2021, but for some reason (primarily by myself), I delayed it two times. And, this time, I must get it. 

To achieve my goal, I determined the most significant barrier to passing is language skills (both English and Korean). My English skills are bad, especially my Listening and speaking skills. I can listen clearly in part 1 and part 2 of the Listening IELTS exam, but it is too difficult in the last two parts. My speaking skill is worse. I can’t speak any, even part 1 in the Speaking IELTS exam. My reading skill is something I can practice on my own. Before, I hated reading tests because they were boring and made me sleep. Now, I have a belief that it is my scoring skill, and I will try my best to make reading skills become my strongest skill. The writing skill is the most difficult, but it is the most favorite of me. So, I will try to practice daily. 

In my Korean, I still learn but at a lower intensity. In my plan, I will use an English certificate, specifically IELTS, to apply for a university in Korea. Then, I continuously learn Korean in Korea. Therefore, on October 2023, I need TOPIK 3 or 4 certificate. 

From today, I promise I will become strict with myself and more focused on my goals.  

From today to June 19th, I will spend 

10 hours/day improving my English skills (3 hours for Reading, 3 hours for listening, 1.5 hours for speaking, and 1.5 hours for writing);

5 hours/day sleeping; 

4 hours/day for personal time (handling the individual work, going to the park with my Nô bé or exercise (estimate 1.2 – 2 hours each two days), meeting the dentist, eating, washing, and so on) 

3 hours/day earn money (I need to watch the series of KDP and set up my business);

2 hours/day learning Korean; 

In my whole life, I have yet to create and deploy a personal plan thoughtfully. So, at this time, I really want to complete the one like that.
