We all know Dante had/have a thing for western-themed things (we're all looking at his chaps and cowboy boots in DMC4 at the moment), now imagine him having a S/O who's literally a Cowboy?

He's definitely lovestruck.

Always mouth wide open of how impressed he is seeing you in action.

Now cut for him showing off as usual so he can impress you too. Don't we all love this man? 

He will wear Dr. Faust most 100% of the time you two go out on missions together.

Oh, and he'll wear — not to say steal — your hat too. Loving is sharing. 

Silly goofy cowboy-themed nicknames for you, but most are just romantic and/or cute.

If you ever have a Southern accent, you'll see Dante blushing from pink to cherry-red when you're speaking. He thinks you're voice is so sensual.

Also, yes, please sweet-talk to him — whether in public or not, much for Vergil's dismay —, he'll be a happy demon purring puddle.

Tell me you have a Devil Arm that's a lasso, by the love of Sparda. He'll be astonished and even more over the moon. 

And sure, he'll convince you — a.k.a make his infamous puppy dog eyes — to let him use it.

Yet he also planned to got stuck by it so he can flirt with you. 

"Looks like you got your price, honeysuckle?" "Dante, please, we're in the middle of a mission—"

It doesn't really matter how many Devil Arms you have on store, Dante will convince you to let him use, even if it's just for a bit. He'll let you use his, too, and yes he's mesmerized as heck seeing your proficiency with them. 

I dare to say, he's even more in love with you. 

Let's enter the angst field for a bit, with the classic "Dante knows you're badass yet he's afraid to lose you". He knows you're capable and strong, hell, that's one of the reasons he fell for you; but goddamn, what if you got hurt and he's not there to give you cover as he always does? Fuck, he doesn't even wanna think of the day you decide you're better off without him.

He's crying and he's hugging you like it was the last time, that's for sure. He loves you like a country love song.

How do you think the DMC crew handles dancing?

Hello Prototype! I forgot to answer this ask yesterday because I received it in the middle of playing in my Starfinder campaign, so I'm answering this right as I wake up instead xD

Hmm. I could go the easy route and say "I can use the EX Provocations in DMC5 as my main evidence" but something about that feels almost like I'm chickening out of a challenge. So time for me to dig into my brain and see what comes to mind! (I might not hit the mark for what you're looking for but this was fun.)

Dante's shown very much throughout the series he can be a showoff if he feels like it- especially when claiming and testing out new Devil Arms. That man can definitely dance and will if he so feels like it (though it's questionable how modern his dance moves are even if Patty's tried to teach him some). I won't say you'll be catching him at the club anytime soon for his own entertainment, but when the mood strikes him he'll dance. It's just a shame more often than not that his audience ends up being demons who're about to get their asses kicked.

Vergil. You know, it would be so simple but so dismissive of him as a character to just be like "he doesn't dance." Instead imagine if he DOES know how to dance(probably the basics of a few styles from observation but mostly self-taught), maybe even better than Dante can. Yet- he thinks he's cringe as hell about it. So he sometimes dances when alone and Sparda help anyone who stumbles in on that. He'd probably tell them not to say anything then won't talk for a day or so not because he's pissed but because he's embarrassed.

Lady probably had taken dance lessons when she was younger. Most likely something like ballet. She seems like the type who would have been neutral about it- but definitely happy to quit the moment she had the chance. The basics of those lessons helped serve as a good foundation for her later demon hunting job. It's not uncommon in real life either for athletes of all kinds taking ballet to help their own profession, so it's not too far off to think the same could apply for Lady's own skills. I think she still does warm-ups when she has time to help maintain her body. Since she classifies her physical health as part of her work she doesn't care if anyone sees. She doesn't dance much anymore- but sometimes she thinks about trying it again.

Nero's not a fan of dancing in public(in this context places not overrun by demons) or around strangers. He'll jam to a good beat if it catches his attention. Nod his head to it a little or even headbang if the music's appropriate. In private? I think he enjoys dancing. Especially if sweeping Kyrie into his arms for a bit can get her laughing after either of them have had a rough day. He doesn't mind if Nico or anyone else from the Devil May Cry crew sees them. Though if Julio jokingly yells "ew" as loud as he can again then the little troublemaker's going to have a stern talking to.

Trish likes dancing. Not around or with anyone she knows, though Lady is an exception to that. She's probably tried a few styles out over the years and hasn't found a favorite yet to stick with for the long haul. If she ever asks Lady to join her either in private or at a club it's constant excuses as to why Lady won't dance with her- but the way Lady watches her is borderline envious.

Nico will swear up and down that she won't dance for no one, but the moment she gets one too many beers in her during downtime I think she loses that fight before it even starts. Put on one of her favorite songs and soon enough someone has to drag her ass back into her seat so she doesn't end up climbing onto the table. If called out about it later she'll defend herself- but won't deny that she did in fact end up dancing.

BONUS ROUND - Propaganda Edition

Patty absolutely loves dancing, and jumps at any chance to try out something new. Especially if it requires a dance partner so she can bug Dante to help her practice when he's lazing around the shop (he won't help unless she bribes him with strawberry sundaes or a good pizza). She'll say to his face that he has two left feet and a dance bar would be better than him even on a good day- but she knows he's just trying to wiggle his way out of their deal the moment he gets a chance.

Heya. I love the matchups you’ve been doing, and I wanted to request a romantic Hazbin Hotel matchup (only characters I wanna ask to exclude are the angels. I like them, but I fancy myself more a sinner than a saint)

Personality: Outwardly I’m fairly calm, albeit a bit reserved and express myself largely through sarcasm and dry humor. I can also be a bit harsh and abrasive when in a bad mood. Not sure if you'd like my taste in music, but on the off chance you find something you like, here's some songs for the reboot, both for the lads and just the general vibe of Limbo City:

-The Protomen (the band). A couple of their albums, namely "The Protomen", "Act II: The Father of Death", and "This City Made Us".

Songs I liked specifically:

1. "The Hounds" from the Act II album. I know for the reboot it'd probably fit best for Bob Barbas, since he's the big information demon, but personally, I always liked it as Vergil's villain song instead- if he ever came back and decided to just wreck Dante's life after the events of the game, I mean. It's got a nice personal element to it that Dante and Bob just don't have, but Vergil and Dante do/could. That and it's catchy as hell and if Vergil ever decides to try and set himself up as the new demon king of the human world, my dude deserves a good villain song for it.

2. "Keep Quiet" (Act II), "Light Up the Night" (Act II), and "Hold Back the Night" (This City Made Us album) for Kat and Dante and the Order. The first two are more hopeful, the last one not so much, but it could fit, depending on what you want to write. Gonna throw in "This City Made Us" song from the album of the same name, too, just for the general vibe of Limbo City under Mundus. And maybe even after him, tbh, again, depending on how you wanna do things.

3. "II B: Unrest in the House of Light", "III: the Will of One", "IV: Vengeance" from "The Protomen" album, for general Sparda family drama vibes, specifically their beef with Mundus and, eventually, each other.

Songs for reboot Dante specifically:

-"Lost Boys" by the 69 Eyes. It fits better with the Lost Boys (1987) movie, but fuck it. I like the general Goth rock vibe for Dante. Mostly because of that costume of his that looks like it's inspired by Eric Draven from The Crow (1994), because I love that movie and that costume (it looks good on him!), so he can have this, as a treat.

-"Remedy" by Cold.

-"T-Rex" by K.Flay.

-"You're Not Alone" by Kissin' Dynamite.

-"Dead Inside" by Younger Hunger.

Oh I'm a big fan of music! I also love the Dante/Crow parallels, it's a little detail I love in the costumes but also just kinda like Dantes whole vibe.

My personal all time favorite song for Dante is Sleep Patterns by Merchant Ships which I realize is an odd choice (it doesn't even really sound like most of my Dante playlists or even the rest of Merchant Ships discography) but something about it is very quintessentially reboot Dante to me

pink ocean - the voidz historically one of my favorite songs ever. literally impossible to be in a bad mood when i listen to it. maybe not my favorite anymore, but it's still the first song that comes to mind when anyone asks.

stillbirth - alice glass as a warning, this song is very loud and abrasive, but it's the ultimate catharsis song. if you're familiar with her story, then i'm sure you can piece it together. it really helps sometimes.

your love (déjà vu) - glass animals i know many of my mutuals are already on the glass animals wave so the propaganda is unnecessary, but this song is like my last pre-pandemic happy memory lmao. i was so hyped for this song to drop, i literally sat outside the class i was supposed to be in listening to it over and over until the radio station that debuted it moved onto another song. that was february 2020 🥴

XII. currently working on: a very, very long wip that i'll never finish. it's at 140k+ words so far, but i think the characters got away from me a bit and i'm not sure how to reel them back in. it's very ambitious, lots of stuff going on there, lots of angst. but it's become unsatisfying to write as of late

I have to say, the total word count surprised me given fact my job makes it impossible to write for months-long stretches at a time.

12. favorite character to write about this year

Ah, Elrond. As strong as a warrior, as wise as a wizard, as venerable as a king of dwarves and as kind as summer. When I first started writing The Ransom of The House of Fëanor, I thought Maglor would be the most prominent subject of my usual restricted third person POV. But Elrond had his own ideas, and his narrative background and history just made him too delicious of a character to explore. He has lost three fathers, a mother, a twin, and a wife (though presumed to be waiting for him in canon). He will lose another son and a daughter before he sails West at the end of ROTK, and yet he is kind.

Funnily enough, for all their apparent differences, Elrond's actually quite similar to my second favourite character to write - Dante from Devil May Cry. Dante wears his smiles like a shield, but he has lost so much, and loves too fiercely to protect his own heart.

13. favorite writing song/artist/album of this year

*SLAMS DOWN CUP OF TEA* I WILL WAX ELOQUENT ABOUT The Oh Hellos.

Their songs remain some of the most lyrically complex and gorgeously yearning I have ever encountered. Rounds is the last song of a four album series named after the four winds, and speaks of how breath is unending words and endless chords; how artistry is inheritance.

Their album Dear Wormwood is also glorious.

But coming in very close second in my listing of favourite artists are The Longest Johns. They have wonderful interpretations of traditional sea shanties, working songs and traditional melodies. My favourite song of theirs is Here's a Health to the Company, a song that fits every farewell, from DnD to the last night before a final, desperate battle.

23. Fics you wanted to write but didn’t

My Devil May Cry readers are very patient - I finally got to writing Tolkien-based fics like I'd been wanting to for ten years, and never got round to writing the third fic in my DMC series. This next one was supposed to be about Nero figuring out how to propose to Kyrie, and Vergil being the absolute worst source of advice in that area - mixing in some delicious background regarding Vergil and Nero's mother before Nero was born. I should get started on it sometime.

As for The Ever-Fixéd Star, I still have the final chapter of A Song in Stone to go, and the next fic in the series, where the Fëanor, Fingolfin, and Finarfin go hunting in the far northern mountains of Aman and are caught in a snowstorm. As it turns out, all it needs for millennia-old grievances to come to a head is an injured little brother, memories of the Helcaraxë, and grief for a long passed father.

And then there's the whole other can of worms that is the epic I thought up with my twin @wafflesrisa, where Maedhros, Maglor, Elrond and Elros occasionally blip in and out of their timeline, meeting each other in past and present, like The Time Traveller's Wife. Makes for some excellent angst around certain events pre and post Sirion, Angband, and Numenor.

task 002 - ethan’s playlist. 

when he’s working a shift, ethan almost exclusively lets whoever he’s working with pick the music. only with a select few - those he truly feels comfortable around, or who he knows share his taste in music - does he put on what he actually wants to listen to. usually it’s something that you can’t help but move to, something with a beat driving it and instruments loud enough to drown out anything else around him. there are a few quiet, more melancholic tracks on his playlist, but those are rare. he doesn’t like to dwell on sad songs; ethan needs a distraction. that’s what music is to him - a way of taking all of the things he’s feeling, and letting them go. it’s his release.

the explanation

what was the first album that your muse ever bought with their own money?

ethan started working for milhorn & son in an official capacity when he was fifteen, though he’d been doing odd jobs since they opened. he began having spending money, though, once he was officially hired as a cashier.  one of the first paychecks he got when to behind the mask by fleetwood mac, a band his older sister erin liked a lot. she got him interested in them, and he’s loved their music ever since. 

what sort of music was around your muse’s house growing up ? what do their parent’s listen to ?

the milhorn’s had a wide variety of music they liked. his grandma betty was a fan of blues, and almost exclusively had a very vintage vinyl playing at all times. ruby listened to pop mostly, occasionally putting on disco specifically to make her younger children cringe at how uncool their parents were. ethan’s dad listened to rock and roll and r&b mostly. 

what does your muse love about their favorite band ?

ethan found green day at a really formative time. he was just graduating high school, working for his parents and feeling like his life wasn’t headed anywhere in a hurry. he felt stuck, and like he belonged absolutely no where. the dual anger and playfulness that exists in green day’s lyrics just spoke to him - he could feel every emotion they felt when they played their music, and ethan has always wanted to be able to express himself as loudly and proudly as they do.

what’s your muse’s go-to karaoke song ?

prior to this year, ethan would never, ever, under any circumstances do karaoke. even now, he likely would have to be forced on stage by the rest of the band or one of his friends. but if he were forced to perform, i think he would pick something that isn’t super, duper flashy ? he has an amazing great voice, but he doesn’t really go out of his way to show it off. i think he’d pick something probably fairly well known in order to get others to join in, so he could fade into the background. maybe something like heroes by david bowie, jessie’s girl by rick springfield, or semi-charmed life by third eye blind ? 

what’s your muse’s preferred way to listen to music ?

he has a cd player / boombox from 1995 that he bought second-hand a year ago. it’s in great shape, and it sits in the corner of his room. whenever he’s home and not trying to practice guitar, he’s got it on quietly in the background.
