My Netrunner abandoned her real name long ago. She goes by her net handle or by the name given to her by her sponsor (actually her bio dad...)

Only her elder brother calls her by her real name when he's exceptionally disappointed with her or when he's concerned about her

As myself, I get that Rockerboy is desperately trying to reconnect with my Netrunner. But as my Netrunner, him calling me by my real name is like an insult to my dead brother

I'm suffering from mild psychosis now. I'm not being rational. To me, it's like Rockerboy thinks he can replace my brother. Who does he think he is? How dare he use my real name >:U

I was vulnerable because I saw him as my first real friend. That's why I trusted him with my name. But he trampled all over my trust >:/

The worst part is he tinted her memory by betraying her trust. They exchanged real names when he shared with her a BD of them sitting under a starry sky far away from Night City

When my Netrunner saw the stars, she dared to dream of being free... which got her into the current mess she's in... but at least for once in her life she found the courage to go against Arasaka/dad. That BD was a precious memory for her

Unknowingly, Floyd has stepped into some big shoes ever since the twins lost their parents in the accident…. But it’s a position he’s happy to take.

It had been 1 year since the accident…There was much healing for Velvet and Veneer.

There were small changes that Floyd saw: Velvet became more closed off, Veneer a little more over emotional and unsure of himself.

Floyd had planned to go back and see if his brothers were okay….if they were alive even…but that changed after the accident. He couldn’t leave the twins…

The holidays were near… and this would be the siblings first without their parents… they weren’t much in the holiday spirit. But Floyd still wanted to do something for them…. He still wanted them to feel loved even with their parents gone.

Velvet resumed in her room… music blasting loud… she had closed herself off from him and her brother… poor Veneer spent days trying to get her to come out… the only time they’d see her is school days.

They both spent their school days alone most of the time…it was hard for them to make friends. Velvet with her head strong personality, and Veneer was just timid. But that never bothered them because had each other… and their parents…but even between themselves they shut each other off.

Floyd spent the weeks leading up to the holidays making something special for each one of them… well something special in his eyes. Being so small, there wasn’t much he could do…. So he had an idea… an idea he brought from his own culture…. Friendship bracelets. Except these, he would call Family Bracelets.

He took the time to select specific colors for each sibling… making it unique to their own personality. He woke up early morning that special day and slipped each bracelet underneath their doors with a note attached to each one.

“I hope you like it guys.” He said to himself. Floyd looked up to a photo of the twins and the their parents. “I’ll keep trying my best… I promise I won’t let anything hurt them.” He said. He retreated to his own room…. A big room and his little things in a small area…. He closed his eyes and drifted to sleep.

Floyd woke back up to the smell of food.

Food? That only meant one thing…. The twins were up… but they never made food.

The tiny Troll made his way to the door…. Where a note was waiting for him…. Two giant notes:

Dear dad Floyd,

Thanks… I guess… for the bracelet. It’s nice. I’m not one to write much or stuff… but yeah thanks.

Floyd smiled. Coming from Velvet, this was saying a lot…. His heart fluttered when he saw the words dad heavily crossed out. He looked at Veneers:

This is so fucked wtf!!! Noooo!!! Li Jianheng noo!!! This is actually such a devastating read like oh my God? And the fact that Mu Ru stabbed him? That is actually so depressing. The fact that he was finally coming into his role as being the emperor after everything he has had to go through only for that to be shifted away from him at the very last minute by somebody who he thinks cares about him!?

That is just devastating.

Oh my God poor Li Jianheng. And now Xiao Chiye is it even allowed to mourn the loss of his brother and the decline of their relationship because of the political nonsense that they have had to go through, because these Nobles are now trying to come for him? Bro cannot catch a break! I was rooting for these two and their friendship so damn hard as I was reading this novel do you have no idea! I personally care more about platonic relationships than romantic ones and whenever I see a platonic relationship getting a lick of nuance and attention I run to it and the fact that they killed off my boy??? He was flawed but that's what made him such an interesting character he was deemed stupid but he was trying to become a better ruler for his people even though he had no idea what he was doing! AUUGHH!!! LI JIANHENG NOOOOO!!!! The devastation I feel right now is immeasurable.

And all this because of the fact that the army of LIBI is seen as treasonous because they don't function the same way is a Noble's function and the eight great clans function is actually so devastating. No wonder why Shen Zechuan hates this very system because it is so messed up. If you don't conform you're screwed. Which honestly is a great parallel to how human beings in general rally against anything that is abnormal in every sense of the word regardless of culture. Absolutely devastating.

And the fact that the death of Li Jianheng perfectly parallels the death of Shen Zechuan's brother is so not funny. Like oh my God. Chapter 96 omg chapter 96.

The fact that this chapter is also the end of volume 1??? I know that for the readers who were reading this novel as it was coming out this chapter must have been insane and also chapter 95 the revelations in that chapter and the truth of what actually happened at the chicia sinkhole… my god!

I'm going to be completely honest I barely understand what happened and all the scheming that was involved but what I did get was that it was all for the sake of money. All of those deaths that 100K death toll was all for the sake of money…

The Big Fight (Part 3)

Pairing: Bonnie Gold x Y/N Summary: It was the day after your found out your brother had been killed, and Bonnie tried to make you feel better in a special way.

You woke up about 4 hours later and the sun had set already. Feeling you head fall slowly up and down rest on Bonnie's naked chest. You smiled thinking back before you fell asleep what had occurred. Sitting up slowly trying to not wake Bonnie. You grabbed a extra blanket and wrapping it around yourself so you didn't have to make to much noise trying to get your clothes back on. Stepping out of the carriage, the fire still flickering in the dark night. You sat down on one of the logs and just took in the nature that you missed so much being out in, the slight breeze that rolled through every once in awhile chilling you a bit. You heard creaking behind you causing you to shoot around to inspect. Relaxing your tense body after seeing it was Bonnie in only his pants.

"Why didn't you wake me?" He asked with sleep in his voice still.

"You just looked too cute to wake." You said with a giggle and turning back to look out over the river. He kissed you naked shoulder that the blanket didn't cover and sat beside you.

"How are you feeling?" He asked putting his arm around you.

"I'm okay. Little better because of you." You said with a wink and smile.

"Well, I'm happy I could help a bit." He said pulling you closer into him and kissing your temple. You two sat insolence for awhile just relaxing.

"Well, we should probably get going back. Get you back to your family." Bonnie said sitting straight up.

"Nooooo." You whined out with a pouting face.

"I know, I know. It's shit. I'll tell you what when we get closer we stop one more place and watch the sunrise, and then we go back? "He told you.

"Better than nothing." You said hoping up and holding you hand out for Bonnie to grab.

"Lets go get you dressed." He said with a smile and dragging you into the back of the carriage to your clothes.

"But you leave your shirt off." You demanded getting into the carriage and dropping the blanket. He just stared at you, looking you up and down.

"Yes ma'am." He said practically drooling. You grabbed you pants and his shirt putting them on and slipping your shoes back on. He held his hand out to help you down safely. Closing the gate to the back of the carriage and walking around to open your door for you. You climbed in and got comfortable for the ride. Slowly thoughts of Arthur taking you on road trips with him as a young girl. He was your older brother, but also a father figure to you. You never knew your father, he was gone before you turned 6 months old. Even Finn, only being a year older than you, you always looked up to him.

"hey you okay?" Bonnie asked snapping you out of your thoughts and coming to realization you guys were already driving.

"Yeah. Just thinking about Arthur." You said looking over at him. A saddened smile across his face as he motioned for you to get closer to him. You slid across the bench seat and curled into his side.

"I know it's hard right now. He lives through the rest of you guys. He lives in your hearts, forever." Bonnie spoke softly and he rubbed circles on your back. The rest of the ride was in comfortable silence. You watched out the window at the big fields that you passed by. You noticed you were getting closer to town. It was begging to get a little bright out, but no sun yet. Bonnie, slowing down and pulling down. road that went through a field, and into the forest behind it. Once the car stopped you got out and went around the back of it the edge of the river in perfect time to see the sun start to peak.

"So, what do you want to do when we get back?" Bonnie asked standing next to you.

"Well, we have to handle the Changretta's now. I'm going to slice the throats of all of them for what they did to my brother. They will not live to see Christmas with their children, and wives." You said starting to get more angry than sad now. You heard a car driving down the path you and Bonnie just came down. You grabbed your gun out of your holster and flattened yourself on the side of the carriage. You peaked your head and saw it was Finn's car. You put you gun back and walked out, Bonnie followed behind and stopped as the car stopped.

"Y/N. We have to go." Finn said getting out of the car.

"What happened Finn?" You asked him.

"Lucca and his men are coming. Tommy, and Polly are at the Gin distillery right now getting ready for him to get there. They want you there." He said frantically.

"Okay. Bonnie, I'm sorry. Thank you, but I have to go." You said turning to him.

"That's okay. I'll meet you guys there. Be safe." He said pulling you into a hug and kissing you. You turned away and ran to the car and Finn got in. Turning around and taking it off. You stopped at home to change, and then quickly got to the distillery. Walking in, Tommy, and Polly stood beside each other. You walked over with Finn, and stood beside them two.

"Just stay quiet. Let me do the talking." Tommy said knowing the temper you had. You just scoffed and lite a cigarette. Hearing footsteps slowly walking around the corner and seeing Lucca, and his men with guns in hand. You blood instantly starting to sizzle through your veins wanting to rip his head off right then and there. But as much as you dint want to admit it, Tommy was right. You have to stay calm and watch how this plays out.

Lucca spoke but in Italian, not understanding what he was saying, you just looked.

"All thats left of the Peaky fucking Blinders." He spoke in English to you and your family now. You took a drag of your cigarette trying not to speak. Lucca walked up to come face to face with Tommy. Lucca snood his fingers, and one of his men walking with a brief case and taking out a folder and putting it on the table. Lucca walking back around table.

"I've had my lawyer draw up these papers. Cover every enterprise in your possession. Bars, restraints, warehouses. Every fucking thing that you've taken all these years to gather together. You will sign them all over." He said beginning to walk.

"To my family." He finished his sentence. You scoffed at his comment finishing off your cigarette. Tommy not saying a word, just staring Lucca in his eyes.

"Or you're gonna die." Lucca said. You through your cigarette at the ground and stood straight up. Polly giving you a look to stop and step back. Tommy still just looked at Lucca, without a word.

"I would've buried you all, but my mother, she knows you. She said, it'll be worse for you, if I let you live and take away everything you have." Lucca spoke making you more and more mad. Lucca grabbed Tommy jacket, and pulling it to look on the inside. Tommy put his hands out for easier access.

"Search em." Lucca said as he grabbed the gun from Tommy holster. One of his man coming to grab the gun from Lucca. Lucca now standing in front of Polly

"Especially don't trust this bitch." He said looking down at her and tearing open her blouse making the buttons fly off. Looking in her shirt for a gun. You spit at his shoe, making him turn to you.

"And this little bitch. She's a feisty one. Definitely should have killed her, along with John." Lucca said opening your jacket to grab you gun. You kept your composure as he did so. His men now checking all of you over as Lucca walk around the table.

"So." Lucca said holding a pen up in front of Tommy.

"Sign. Every fucking one of them." He said. You smiled a bit as Tommy didn't move as soon as he said that.

"You can sign them on your knees." He said as he pushed the papers off of the table. Tommy still not moving. That, set Lucca off, he pulled the table up and flipped it over.

"Get on your fucking knees, and sign!" Lucca said with a deep, angry tone. You couldn't hold back the smile that spread across your face.

"A friend of mine once said." Tommy said getting down on his knees.

"So I had to find someone bigger than you. Now, you may know there are two families in Brooklyn, who want to take over your monopoly on the import of liquor into New York." Tommy spoke up to Lucca now, knowing what he was talking about now.

"But if you were to die in a vendetta with some fucking bookmaker in Birmingham, they could take over your business without a war." Tommy said to him, seeing physically Lucca's face drop.

"We also contacted a businessman in Chicago. He's also interested in moving into the liquor business in New York. " You spoke more facts to Lucca.

"His name is Alphonse Capone." Tommy said up Lucca, instantly making him angry.

"You been talking to that fat fuck?" He asked.

"You see, all the blood relatives you brought with you from New York, they're all dead, Mr. Changretta." Tommy continued.

"And these men here, they work for money, for the highest bidder." Tommy said motioning to the men standing behind Lucca.

"They now have new orders." Tommy told him and Lucca catching on pretty quickly.

"Is that right?" He asked turning to the men behind him.

"Is that right?" He repeated towards them.

"And you, Matteo?" Lucca asked looking at his most trusted since he's been in England. Matteo not making eye contact with Lucca, looking at the floor.

But, reached into his coat pocket and grabbing out his gun Thomas being faster grabbed a crowbar from the ground and smacking Luccas arm so the gun flew out of his hand. Tommy grabbing ahold on Lucca's jacket, but Lucca pushing him back against the piping. Tommy giving Lucca a good head butt making him fall back and giving him a swift punch to the face. But Lucca found the crowbar and smacked Tommy in the stomach with it. Blocking the next swing, but Lucca getting a few good ones in. Tommy got ahold of Lucca, pushing him to the table where there were glass bottles and smashed his face into it. You looked over to the door that slowly opened. The wall blocking your view but quickly the person came in view. It was Arthur. Your eyes widened as you saw him. Looking over at Finn, who as just as surprised as you were. Tears began to form in your eyes as you just stood and watched. Tommy looking up at Arthur and pulled Lucca up making him stand. Polly, didn't look surprised. Arthur raised his hand that had a gun in it to point at Lucca. Tommy stood out of the way and Arthur took his shot at Lucca, right between the eyes.

"Tell your people in Chicago. That Michael Gray will sign the import license to New York. Three hundred barrels of English dry gin a month." Tommy spoke breaking you out of your trance state.

"Leave." Arthur spoke for the first time since walking in. The men filling out of the room.

"Tell your boss what you saw here to today. And tell him...." Arthur said trailing off.

"You don't fuck with the Peaky Blinders." Arthur said looking over at you and Finn now. You ran over to him and jumped into his arms.

"You aren't dead. You aren't fucking dead." You said softly into his neck.

Everyone was back at Tommy's house now celebrating that Arthur was still alive. Bonnie was back by your side. Now you were way more happy then you were before. Having your brother back and find new love with Bonnie.

but as it happened theon only saw asha's assault of him on pyke as a humiliation, and her showing up to winterfell with less than 20 men and telling him to pack this shit up was just an extension of that same humiliation. he knows in acok that he should go with her or else be a dead man walking and he doesnt. he refuses!!

and i want asha to forgive him for that.

So I had a discussion with my dad a couple days ago about how some of my behaviors reflect symptoms of complex PTSD. For context, my dad has been extremely verbally abusive to me basically until COVID when my mom was home all the time and he couldn’t yell at me without her telling him to cut that shit out. He still loses his cool sometimes, either directed at me, my brother, or my mom. My mom had an incredibly traumatic (in many ways but primarily physically) childhood. She does not do this.

I hypothesized that I must have inherited these C-PTSD adjacent behaviors from my mom because I haven’t experienced trauma. I said this in part to gauge whether my dad would recognize that I have been through traumatic things — not even necessarily because of him, some of it is from being severely bullied and ostracized at school because I’m autistic. He agreed with my lie that I hadn’t ever experienced anything traumatic, and then started to complain about my mom being “overprotective” of me as a child. At some point I managed to bring up that I had gone through a lot of stuff in my childhood that’s scarred me for life, and he pretty much went “well yeah but you weren’t physically abused so you haven’t experienced trauma.” Which…no. Not how that works.

I moved on from that but my dad kept saying “this is such a productive conversation why don’t I have these kinds of conversations with you more often.” He at one point said something that made me tell him, “I’m not qualified to talk about this, you need a therapist or someone with a degree in psychology.” This made him go “nooooo why are you making this conversation go sideways why are you making this difficult we were having a PRODUCTIVE conversation why would you ruin it like this :(((( I can’t talk to you about anything”, which is not an uncommon response for him to have but just very annoying.

The worst part, though, and what I primarily wanted to tell you about, was when I confronted him about him, during a fight in January, yelling at my mom that she was just like her abuser. I’d asked my mom if she was okay with him saying that and she told me “oh he says that a lot but when he does he’s always drunk so I don’t let it get to me.” My dad justified his actions by informing me that, quote, “your mom was actually being really mean to me when I said that.” I couldn’t tell if he was joking or being serious and something about that made me so sad I started to cry. He didn’t respond well to that. Previously he’d complained about my mom “freaking out whenever I raise my voice at her,” which, yeah! She was verbally abused as a child! I told my mom about this later and she was like “well he says things like that sometimes, try not to pay attention to them.” I had talked with my mom’s best friend about incidents like this previously and she’d mentioned that my mom has a really high tolerance for emotional abuse and basically any kind of abuse that isn’t physical.

And I just think that’s so sad. I wish my dad would not be…like that. He’s a walking collection of red flags and I want better for my mom. I can’t put my feelings about this shit into words other than “it’s sad.” Because it is sad and I think my dad really has to do some self reflection but I’m not helping with that shit. He has to work through his issues by himself because I am not a licensed therapist. I’m literally a teenager. I shouldn’t have to be dealing with this stuff and it’s frustrating to be around my father most of the time. I think it’s very sad for him too because he’s fucked up his relationship with me specifically so so so bad. Your kid should feel safe around you, but I can’t feel safe around my dad. And that’s just sad.

Anyway sorry I had to tell someone about the “she was actually being really mean to me before I screamed at her and compared her to her abuser” comment because what the fuck. That’s a wild ass thing to say right? Like, there’s no justifying that. The justification made it so much worse imo.

His behavior towards you and your mom is unacceptable and unfair, and I'm sorry you've had to grow up in such an environment. That being said, attempting to have a constructive conversation about abuse and trauma with a long term abuser is rarely particularly productive, and you might get further by avoiding direct confrontations with him when that's possible than by actively trying to confront him with his abuse. At least until you can get out of there ❤️

I mean, I've gotta say, one of the loseriest heroes I've read recently is Envy from Throne of the Fallen by Kerri Maniscalco. I've said it before and I'll say it again--if you're looking for a fantasy romance to try, especially if you normally read historicals, this is it (and TotF does stand alone if you want to try it first versus the trilogy that comes before it).

Envy is like, on a quest to save his court, and he's ostensibly a Prince of Hell and therefore very strong and full of supernatural gifts but like... He spends so much of this book falling flat on his face, ESPECIALLY with his heroine Camilla, who is Extremely Unimpressed. (There's a moment wherein he has to do something amazing to save his own life, and she's genuinely like assuming he's just going to die lmao.) His brothers randomly show up to dunk on him throughout the book. Not even for like, plot, just to be like "Sooooo have you seduced her yet? No? Shocker." He does things he thinks are so cool and then is like "Oh God immediate regret mistake".

Seven Nights in a Rogue's Bed by Anna Campbell is a recent read wherein the hero presents himself as very suave and confident, and he's like "I SHALL KEEP YOU HERE FOR SEVEN DAYS AND SEDUCE YOU, MY INNOCENT MUAHAHAHA" before being like "nooooo I have harmed the innocent, I AM A WORM!!!" when the heroine shows pitches an emotional fit at him.

Allegreto in Shadowheart by Laura Kinsale is another "muahahahahaha" hero, and he is like, legitimately dangerous and threatening (TW: noncon in the first encounter) but once the heroine, Elena, gets her hooks in him... He is.... a sad little baby. A sad little baby who doesn't think he can go to church because he's done too many murders and is going to hell. BUT HE'S COOL WITH THAT. He's totally cool with that.... he's cool.... Arguably even more of a loser if you read For My Lady's Heart first, which is set ten years earlier and features another couple (the hero is less of a loser but still has embarrassing moments like being visibly aroused in front of the heroine and getting called out on it by her in front of SEVERAL priests, and also thinking this heroine is his perfect lady who he's pledged to for thirteen years only to meet her for real and be like "oh my god she's kind of EVIL??? My life has been devoted to a VILLAINESS???? I'm so STUPID") and also a teenage Allegreto who does absolutely RIDICULOUS things like carry a plague apple around because he's scared of plague, and like, hold the hero's hand during sleep because he thinks the hero will ward off plague, and pretend to be A CASTRATO for an ELABORATE SCHEME which he HONESTLY DID NOT HAVE TO DO.

A Rose at Midnight by Anne Stuart (TW: a lot of dubcon between the hero and heroine at first, noncon in the heroine's past not with the hero) has another "I am such a villain, my lady!!!" hero who is actually a massive ball of guilt and angst. The first time they sleep together she actually secretly enjoys it and hates herself for it, but she didn't Get All The Way There and he walks away like "I'M SO EMBARRASSING I CAN'T DO ANYTHING RIGHT" and like kicking rocks while pretending to be very above it.

Mafia Madman by Mila Finelli. Enzo d'Agostino's master plan is to kidnap the heroine by blowing up a bar for REVENGE and everyone around him is like "honestly your master plan... doesn't even make a lot of sense" even though it TOTALLY makes sense, y'all just DON'T GET IT. He then proceeds to get schooled by the heroine at every opportunity and become her dog (literally there's a bonus epilogue where she's gone for like 30 seconds and his brothers are like "look at what she did to him, he used to be a perfectly good mafia don, now he has anxiety").

Charlotte and The Seductive Spymaster by Grace Callaway has the titular spymaster who faked his death to keep his wife safe and IMMEDIATELY regretted it, returning from the dead twelve years later and getting mad that she's flirting with another man. So he like. THROWS ROCKS AT THE OTHER MAN??? FROM A SECRET HIDING PLACE? Embarrassing behavior. He also faints at one point. Like, it made sense, but I still laughed my ass off. And his wife is super competent, so she's constantly like "... really?"

Seduce Me at Sunrise by Lisa Kleypas has Kev Merripen, who is extremely competent on paper because he's literally the only person in that series who has a real job, but emotionally... the boy ain't right. He literally thinks that if he sleeps with Win ONCE she'll get pregnant and die. He like, hides in the background. Married by Morning also has an extremely losery moment from Leo Hathaway in which he basically does that thing from that meme where he trips and drops all of his obsessive things about the heroine, and the obsessive things are tons of drawings he did of her wearing nothing but her glasses. And she's like ".... you sure have an active imagination". Honestly, Harry from Tempt Me at Twilight also has his share of cringe, like the time he thought he was super hurting Poppy during her first time, so he just jumped off her and hated himself for days and ran away and she had to literally hunt him down and go "I'm FINE now FINISH IT".

Hart Mackenzie from The Duke's Perfect Wife, I will always maintain, is a massive loser who pretend to be extremely competent. Like, he's all "Eleanor, as you know, we did it three times when we were engaged" and she's like "yes.... like a decade ago Hart... I'm not.... impressed". He's being blackmailed by a stranger who sent Eleanor (a reporter) nude photos he took years ago and he's like ".... well those certainly are photos I took Eleanor". He gets all growly at her and she boops his nose. It's pathetic.

Dreams of a Dark Warrior by Kresley Cole, aka "he's constantly being reincarnated after sleeping with the heroine, like they hook up and then he just dies half an hour later in what sound like frankly increasingly comical death scenes, and she's immortal so she finally just gives up on even kissing him"... One of the legitimately saddest heroes I've ever read, lol. He's been brainwashed into hating immortals (with some solid reasons tbf) so he's like, the head torturer in this prison of immortals (TW, it's kinda intense) and he HAAAATES the heroine and she's DETERMINED to kiss him to kill him this time because she HAAAATES him. But like. His body count is like 1.5 because he's never actually really been interested in anyone because, though he doesn't know it because he doesn't remember, his soul only wants HER. So he meets her and is very *boing* about her and HATES it, and they literally have a fight in his office where he ends up on top of her and she's like "... I can feel EXACTLY how into this you are" and he's like !!!!!!!!!! He's just increasingly confused.

Also, this leads very nicely into Lothaire, where the big bad of the series is revealed to be a frankly loony tunes nightmare who's like "honestly I'm only 50% lucid at any given time". And he does a lot of puzzles in his spare time. And he wears trenchcoats because he thinks it looks cool (it doesn't). And he's constantly getting OWNED by a 24 year old psych major dropout. Like, she'll just perfectly diagnose him and he goes "... well you got me there". At one point, she hops on it with their clothes on (because he's trying to menacingly be like "YOU HAVE NO CHOICE" but it was actually exactly what she wanted him to do) and he has an Incident in his jeans, and she later finds him in the shower and throws said jeans at him like "NEXT TIME YOU TRY TO BE ALL HIGH AND MIGHTY REMEMBER WHAT I MADE YOU DO LOSER". Sad of him.

Embry Moore in Sierra Simone's New Camelot trilogy falls in love with Ash when he's literally stepping on him. And it's honestly just a string of embarrassments after that.

The Master by Kresley Cole (Kresley kinda specializes in Powerful Losers) features a billionaire Russian mafia hero shivering in the rain while the heroine takes an important test texting her like "I hope you do well :D!" because he's trying to get on her good side again lmao I was frankly embarrassed on his behalf

A Demon's Guide to Wooing a Witch by Sarah Hawley features the demonic big bad of the last book coming back with AMNESIA and the heroine rescues him from getting beaten up in like, the first chapter. And he's all "wooooow she's so strong *_*"

Hugo and The Maiden by S.M. LaViolette has a sex worker hero who's all "I'M JADED, I CARE FOR NOTHING BUT MYSELF" getting shipwrecked while being transported on a tiny island, and he gets picked up by a giant, sweet guy who carries him like a baby (while he angrily protests) to this makeshift hospital where the heroine, a vicar's uptight, bossy daughter berates him, and it's like all downhill for his dignity from there.

We cannot forget my beloved Duke of Lockwood from The Duke Gets Even, who spends three books getting swerved or cucked or both, and finally admits he's into Nellie and is all "we shall begin a no strings affair" only to like, immediately fall in love with her. And the rest of the book is her being like "we aren't going to get married Lockwood" and he's all "but whyyyy" and she's like "because you literally said this was a no strings affair which is the only reason why I agreed to it. (Him: :(.) He's also completely broke and thinks that he, as a duke, has sway in America, and there's an entire scene where Teddy Roosevelt himself is like "I like you but I can't help you because you're actually just a broke loser here" after he tries to boss up.

Wynter from C.L. Wilson 's The Winter King is all, "I'm a conqueror, I'm so dangerous, if you don't give me a child within a year I'll leave you on a glacier to die" only for everyone in his employ to be like "girl the glacier thing is actually bullshit". He's actually a puppy. The heroine discovers that he makes sad little ice sculptures of his dead family because he's so lonely. I was like "aww" but also "Jesus dude go outside".

The Duke Gets Desperate features a duke who's an art history major, basically, and like all art history majors (I say as one) he has no applicable life skills and his estate is going under. (I LOVE a broke aristo.) So when the heroine shows up having also inherited the estate and is like "we're going to charge people for tours of the castle to make sure we can pay for it" he's all "GAAAAAASP MADAME DUKES DO NOT HAVE TOURS OF CASTLES DUKES ARE DIGNIFIED AND BROKE!!"

Mercy by Sara Cate features a hero who was literally a cheater in a previous book, a rotten SCOUNDREL finding out that what he really needs to straighten up is to be humiliated and dominated by an older woman (ideally, his dad's close friend).

The Queer Principles of Kit Webb by Cat Sebastian has former highwayman and local sad man and cafe owner Kit begin tutoring dandy swordsman Percy on how to like, rob people. But Kit is ridiculously attracted to Percy, something Percy clocks immediately by being like "this loser is looking at my ankles" and whenever Percy Does Something to Kit Kit is like "THANK YOU OMG".

Oh, speaking of, Shane in Heated Rivalry is like, a perfect athlete and also a massive dork. He's also a "thank you omg that was amazing" guy and then is immediately like "I SAID THANK YOU???" At one point when he and Ilya do it for the first time his inner monologue is like "what if we get stuck together and the fire department has to come and pull us apart and EVERYONE WILL KNOW". A human ball of anxiety. Constantly embarrassed by himself. Ilya is more confident and smooth but also has some losery moments, like when they're camming for each other and he looks at Shane after and says in Russian "I'm so in love and it's horrible" lmao.

Lol Jamison from Tracey Livesay's American Royalty is notably pathetic because he's like, a frosty uptight British prince, and as soon as he sees the heroine he immediately becomes a slobbering ridiculous mess. He manages to keep up the frosty prince act for approx. five minutes.

Managed by Kristen Callihan. Scottie is so in control and prickly and TOGETHER... except for the scene where he fishes her dirty laundry out in the bathroom and does Unspeakable Things and then hand washes it and hides it under the mattress for Later and she FINDS IT.

Hotel of Secrets by Diana Biller has a virginal hero who believes he must be celibate to be an amazing operative, and he's great at the operative stuff, but he's soooo into the heroine. At one point there's a scene where she's bandaging him and she touches his ribs and he's like "pls stop" and she's all "why" and then Looks Down and goes "oh". Humiliating stuff!

Lush Money by Angelina M. Lopez has a hero who gets caught by the paparazzi when he's servicing the heroine on his knees in a car. Very sad for his dignity.

Primetober Day 1: It’s Not Kidnapping If You Make The Rules, with all three extra themes (Kidnapping, Gaslighting, and “You'll do as I say.”)

Boy in the bunker AU. Five year old Tommy is remembering a little of his life outside with the SBI, and Dream makes sure to convince him he's just going crazy. Warnings for kidnapping, manipulation, gaslighting, isolation, imprisonment, abuse and neglect of a very young child, traumabonding, and ableist rhetoric used to victim blame a child.

— “Dream?” Tommy grasped hard on his big brother’s leg, like a vice grip stopping him from leaving and making Tommy all lonely again. He’d left for a long, long time when he’d gone through the bunker doors last time, long enough that all the food had run out except the ones in the big cupboards he wasn’t able to reach yet, and he’d curled up crying in the top bunk holding his aching stomach for two miserable nights. That was where Dream slept, after all, and the silky green sheets almost felt like his big brother was hugging him from far away. “You gotta stay. You gotta.”

Dream chuckled. “Toms, I just got back. I’m not gonna get you cereal then immediately bounce.”

“Oh.” Tommy turned red, though he didn’t let go. He was a big boy- it was his fifth birthday just before Dream had left last!- but he could still be clingy, right? It felt childish and silly for a big kid to do, but Dream always praised Tommy for it, so it was good, right? “Why’d it take you so long to find shit? Did the rabi- radi- poison cloud bomb shit hurt you?”

Dream had told him all about how the world got fucked up when he was only little. There used to be a big island outside the bunker doors, with lots of people, and stuff like schools and other stuff that was on the DVDs. But then the countries, which were like really big families but not really where one person controlled everything like Dream did with him, but they were mean about it, bombed each other, and the bombs had poison in them, and it killed everyone except him and Dream, because Dream had found the bunker and taken him there.

It was always scary whenever Dream went out scavenging in the surface world. Every time, Tommy made a thousand prayers that he wouldn’t get hurt. He wasn’t really sure what a prayer was, but people did it in the movies, so it must work. Once, Tommy forgot to do his prayers, and when he realised he was so worried that he was sick all over the bed because he thought he’d killed Dream and he’d starve to death alone. 

There was the Gun- Dream always said that if one of them was gonna die, he’d take it and kill both of them quickly because it was better than dying in pain or being alone, but Tommy wasn’t big enough to reach the cupboard it was kept in. Besides, only Dream was allowed to use the Gun. Once, he’d hit Tommy just for looking at it for too long, but it was only a little hit, so it was okay because Dream did stuff that left scars when he needed a proper lesson. They didn’t show that on the TV, but Dream had told him that what was on the TV was made up and that stuff like talking cats weren’t real. But cats were, which was equally as weird as talking cats, Tommy thought.

“Nah, I’m fine, lil’ cockroach.” Dream ruffled Tommy’s hair, grimacing a little at its messy state. “God, you need a bath. You’re filthy. Did you roll around in the greenhouse or something?”

“… nooooo?” Tommy yelped as Dream pulled his curls, just enough to hurt. “Okay, okay, I did it, m’ sorry! I wanted to see if the dirt would make my hair brown, so I got some dirt and poured it over me.” He put on his best puppy-dog impression. “I take full respo-sbility for my actions. So, uh, you can hit me and stuff.”

“Aww, look at you, trying to be manipulative. It’s adorable.” Dream laughed. “Fine, you can get away with it for now.”

Tommy giggled at that, before he suddenly stopped. Oh yeah, there was something important he had to tell his big brother. The excitement of finally having someone around was so overwhelming he’d nearly forgotten. “Uh, Dream? Can I tell you something?”

“Course, Tommy. We’re family, right? You can tell me anything.” It sounded more like an order than a comfort, but Tommy was used to orders. Dream said that if he didn’t follow all the orders, then maybe something would go wrong, and the toxic thingy would seep through the doors, and they’d die, and Tommy didn’t want to die. Being alive was pretty awesome, he thought. “Don’t you trust me, lil bro?”

“Of- of course! It’s just- it’s about b’fore, y’know, the bombs an’ shit. I had- I could remember it.”

Dream froze up at that, glaring down at Tommy like there was something dangerous about what he said. Tommy nervously fiddled with his fingers, voice catching in his throat, before Dream gave a sickly sweet smile, one that didn’t reach his eyes. “What could you remember, little bug?” His voice was honeyed, but Tommy knew well enough the poison it hid.

“I- uh, it was when I was real little. Back before I realised I was a boy and stuff.” Tommy couldn’t look his brother in the eyes, feeling somehow guilty about it even though he didn’t know what he did wrong. But it upset Dream, and therefore Tommy couldn’t help but get the sickening feeling he deserved punishment. “I was in a pink dress- like that one in Sims, right? And I was- I was in a park, and there was grass under my feet and shit. And- uh, I think I remember- I don’t know, I don’t think he was my dad. He looked kinda like you, so I guess he was my big brother?”

Tommy gulped, and Dream continued to look down at him, unblinking. “Continue.” His voice was like ice.

“U-um.” Tommy could feel tears pricking at his eyes. He knew he was gonna get a whooping, but it’d probably be worse if he directly disobeyed Dream, so he continued. “Well, I uh, I was playing with a doll, but I lost it, and this nice man got it for me, but then we were really far away from my other brother. And I looked up and- and it was you! And you had the Knife, and you just kinda picked me up and ran.” Tommy laughed, the idea seeming funny. He must have been so tiny back then. “And then I got this.” He gestured at the rough scar across his chest- the first Dream ever gave him, which he treasured because it meant Dream cared enough to correct him, and that meant he loved him.

“Tommy.” Dream didn’t sound mad, just completely emotionless. “Don’t tell lies.”

“I-I’m not- it’s- I ’member it, promise!” Tommy huffed, putting his hands on his hips. “I remember it.”

“Really?” Dream raised an eyebrow.

“Really really. I can pinkie promise if you want.”

“No, no, I believe you.” Dream’s voice was suddenly calm, suddenly sickly sweet again. “But, Tommy… that means you’re not well.”

Tommy blinked. “Huh?”

“Tommy… how could I meet you in a park if I found you after the bombs fell? That doesn’t make sense. Christ.” He covered his face with his hands, sighing. “I guess I can’t blame you. You- you’re not well. It’s not your fault that you’re fragile. It just means you need a firmer hand.”

Something about being called fragile made Tommy feel really upset, but if Dream was saying it, then it had to be correct, and Tommy was being the unreasonable one. Maybe he was fucking crazy. Maybe he was thinking wrong stuff, maybe he needed Dream to tell him everything.

And would that be so bad? Dream was his big brother, and he was the bestest big brother ever. He tucked Tommy into bed, he cooked his favourite food, he played Smash with him all day long sometimes, and even sometimes let him win. When Tommy realised he was a boy, he immediately gave him a cool new name and cool new clothes. He gave the best hugs and was so cool to talk to, he had the most awesome stories about what he did in the surface world. Tommy was pretty sure most of them were fake because they all contradicted each other, but they were so cool he didn’t care. And no matter how long he had to leave, he always came back.

Yeah, Dream knew best. He made the rules for a reason.

“M’ sorry. I’ll tell you everything.” Tommy gave the biggest grin he could, even though he didn’t feel happy, he just felt guilty and stupid. “You’re so smart and cool. I trust you.”
