Meet the OC - Rerki

Oh boy here we go. The one and only. My probably oldest OC in the pit. My beloved sharkrat and problematic fave. There is so much to tell and unpack here ... you know the drill, OC lore under the cut for ease of scrolling!

... where to start, though. The best course of action would probably be at the very beginning.

Rerki was never meant to be likable or appealing to anyone. My very first thought upon creating her back in the day (in GW1 no less!) was like “… she thinks she’s helpful. Not because she’s a good person but because her logic is somewhere along the lines of Dead people don’t have any problems. Therefore if I kill someone, I help them with solving their problems, which in turn makes me helpful”

And thus, Rerki (aka Kairi Yiuan aka Ritari aka Ruannskr) was born and has been stuck in the folds of my brain for over 10 years now. She has grown a lot; changed appearances and names and even races and transcended fandoms but deep down she always stayed the same.

She kind of developed herself, to be honest; grew a will of her own and stubbornly refused to budge or bow to anything else than her own will. Whenever I tried to do something with (or to) her she didn’t like, I heard that snarky little scoff in my head like *Excuse you? No.” and had to agree that, yes, Rerki was right, and I had to change something instead of her.

Another core idea for her has always been her affliction with white, that each and every design and incarnation of her would be void of any colors and absolutely pale. Which, I think, springs from my very own belief that necromancy (and being tied and connected with the afterlife) is a highly draining ordeal and that life will sooner or later be seeping out of you. Which includes your hair, skin and eye color. For myself, white will forever symbolize death and necromancy far more fittingly than black, and since Rerki started out as a necromancer, that settled that.

Another integral part of Rerki is her necromancy, and I blame this one solely on Guild Wars for introducing me to this class/idea in my youth and absolutely captivating and fascinating me with it. Up to this day, I am utterly enthralled by necromancy and will always pick it as my playing a class in any game if possible.

So much for some overall facts about her, now to get into more specific detail …

Rerki has arguably more bad character traits than good, which was a decision I made on purpose, because as I said before: She was never meant to be liked by people. (Yet here we are, apparently).

Rerki thinks of other people as a bothersome annoyance far below her own intellect, and in most cases she’s right. Given that she’s an asura, she’s a born smart ass and loves to rub it into everyone’s face whenever possible. She is also very fond of “I told you so” moments and will relish them with a self-satisfied smirk and a pointed look.

She loves to learn and study but doesn’t have the greatest patience (read: almost none) and wouldn’t go out of her way to explain something to you. If you don’t get it, that’s on you and it’s not her job to teach you anything so you better look closely and figure it out on your own or get lost. Don’t make the mistake to nag and annoy her about it. You will regret it. For the rest of your life.

Rerki will listen to your stupid ideas. Once. And if you’re too dumb to see the signs of her growing annoyance, she will let you feel her fists with zero hesitation and the only one to blame is yourself.

She is rather standoffish and often comes across as rude and uncaring; tossing around harsh words and sharp truths without sugarcoating anything. The world is a chaotic, unpredictable place and you better grow up fast and develop a sturdy backbone or face the consequences.

Rerki prefers to stay on her own and conduct her experiments and studies but will take the lead if the situation demands it to get things done. Properly and swiftly with whatever means necessary.

Her morals are dark gray at best and she often gets into troubles with the law, but personally doesn’t see the issue in herself. In her eyes, it’s the law that’s wrong.

Rerki seems cold at first glance, but that doesn’t mean she has no heart. She has her very own little moments of vulnerability and tenderness, even when expressed in her very own raw, unique way. The only people allowed to see those moments however are her family and closest friends aka her merry band of unfortunate souls and misfits she collected over the years and which has become some sort of second family to her.

Despite her dismissive attitude, Rerki is very observant and will notice the smallest change in behavior patterns and unusual bearings. She may not always comment on it but will remember it. And possibly use it to her advantage, if pushed into the right situation.

Rerki doesn’t have many friends, but once someone has gained her trust and acceptance; she will do whatever she can to keep them safe and sane – even if that means kicking her friend’s own asses if they need it.

On the other hand, she tends to neglect herself a bit; forgetting to eat and sleep in favor of continuing with her studies and experiments. She also has a habit of throwing herself in harm’s way just to prove a point and is more than just a little bit reckless. (Which was far worse in her youth but as she grew up, she’s become calmer and more levelheaded. She still loves to headbutt idiots to shut them up, though)

Her usual treatment of idiots (or most people in general) is the silent stare of “Are you serious?”, followed by detaching her prosthetic arm and slapping some sense into them. And if that doesn’t help … well, let’s just say she knows how to scare people off. (And how to make them disappear. Permanently, if necessary)

Rerki has a habit of collecting and keeping little trinkets from her hardest battles and most vicious enemies – often in the form of severed and conserved limbs or organs or weapons.

She also has a severe fear hatred for white rabbits. No, she will not elaborate and if you keep pressing the matter, she will end you. For your own sake, never mention it again.

The only living members of her family are her bigger sister Errube and her cousin Dillyn; who work alongside her and the pact as co-commanders. (In the GW2 alteration of her and her story)

One of her most treasured possessions is a human skull she found as a child when she accidentally fell into a hole and ended up in a cursed ascalonian crypt. She claims is speaks to her and guided her out and back to her uncle and sister but nobody ever heard the skull so much as whistle in the wind.

And that … is that. That’s my beloved gremlin girl. She also exists in the BG3/DnD universe as a pale tiefling going by the name Ritari and I may create her siblings there as well. Perhaps. If I have the time and energy to do so. But for now, that is all I can think of at the moment.

The noodliest ghosty boy?

What if he WAS Baby? It wouldn't be the first time Danny's enemies plotting gave him offspring. Only this time it's not a clone! It's a proper GHOST baby. Like Lunch Box.

Who's the other parent I hear you ask?

Pretty human-centric view point there buddy, to assume Ghosts NEED two participants to make an offspring. OR are limited to two! Just cause Lunch Lady And Boxie are a couple doesn't mean that's the standard!

We lack data here! ASSUME NOTHING. *sciences harder in your direction*

ANYWAY! The child! All it would really take is one(1) VERY poorly timed ambush attack. Imagine if you will, a cell. How does it multiply? While not even close, the simplistic images ARE pretty good as an explanation!

But isn't that just an ecto-clone? You say?

However! If you wanted, say, a precious bundle off joy? Well, nothing can come from perfect void! You must contribute the building blocks of LIFE! And what are those, my students, in ghost biology??!

Two vital pieces! The Ectoplasm aaaaaaand? That's RIGHT!

The CORE!

A critical and ever vital part of ghost biological function.

Which, like every OTHER part of the body, is malleable. One could, say, make it smaller. Create part of a proto core. OR, should one be ALONE in this process, a FULL protocol.

Upon which, ectoplasm latches, builds, develops and grows. Becomes its own soul.

Now! Do Not mistake me! There is a WILDLY vast difference between the formation of a core and a shattered core. Between willing life and untimely second death. It is not, and never WILL be, easy to create the soul of a child. Tampering with your core is PAINFUL, dangerous, and leaves you WILDLY vulnerable.

There is a REASON Neverborn are so precious.

Buuuuut..... *pulls out a book labeled "Curses Though The Ages"* we must ALSO consider the famed Fenton Luck(tm).

Consider! Where would be the "safest" place to practice making clones of yourself? A place that's wide open. No one wearing white likely to take pot shots at you while your attention is divided in multiple places at once. No parents blowing up the basement at a delicate moment and leaving you trying to hide that extra arm for a week...

Maybe you forget... oh yeah... OTHER GHOSTS.

So there Danny floats. In the Zone. DISTRACTED. His core HUGE from all that recently Royal business as it tries to digest it. Feeling bloated. Trying to work off some energy, as it were. Then who should come along? Why, the universes BEST HUNTER of course! To say *gun powering up noise* :) HI :)

Danny is mid-split.

At his limit, honestly. Already made as many copies as he usually can. Is trying for ooooone moooooore..... when...

PAIN. Something cracks.

He loses concentration. Tries to curl in on himself.

Both 1.5 of him tries. He loses hold of the "clone's" Ecto. Somethings free floating leaving his chest along with it. Behind him, Skulker is freaking out. That was MEANT to be on opening volley. A gentle little "hey, come fight me". That crack sounded SERIOUS.

Danny can't breathe. It's like the portal all over again. He curls tighter and tighter. Feels the crown, which was not THERE until this moment, press down tight and gripping onto his head. Thrumming. And then... something feels like a muscle releasing.

His core is... smaller? He'd been watching its progress, it couldn't have digest so fast... how did it lose so much... mass...

Danny feels all the blood drain from his face.

He nearly died.

Again.

His... his soul... WHERE IS HIS SOUL?? That's a piece of him! A part of his SOU-!

He spins around... only to meet the eyes off a blearly blinking, noodlish, cartoon like gremlin with his color scheme. Who's floating along like they're in zero-g. Just... drifting in a slow circle.

They yawn at him with a mouth full of teeny tiny baby fangs. Then chirp.

That's his Son. He doesn't know how, he doesn't know WHY, but he somehow instinctively... just... KNOWS?

They blep.

Danny looks a Skulker. His eyes hold MURDER.

"You're paying child support."

"......yes sir."

Been thinking about the Goldenheart/Nimona family dynamic, so here are some headcanons pertaining to the sillies as parents

While Nimona is functionally their adopted child in many ways, she also isn't. She's their sidekick, roommate, best friend, mentor, mentee, child, sibling, all rolled into one chaotic shape-shifting gremlin who lives in their house

I do think however that at some point, the family would adopt a child (besides Nimona) that they could actually raise

Based on what's seen in the show I imagine Ballister to be an orphan himself with a childhood very similar to that of Comic Ambrosius, this weird rambunctious little sad orphan kid who wants to prove himself more than anything. I think he would totally want to raise the family he never had and give it to a little orphan kid like him.

Ambrosius I think would want to raise a family as well, he radiates dad energy, but really wouldn't want anyone else to have to deal with the Legacy of Gloreth on their shoulders, so he'd want to adopt rather than try and father any biological children. Plus he sees his beloved husband in all those sweet little babies at the orphanage and by default that makes him love them so much.

We already know Nimona is good with kids. I feel like people don't bring that up because she's pretty alternative and in our society, liking kids is seen as somewhat trad (especially for a person with an even remotely feminine presentation) but it's obvious that she has a soft spot for them. She puts herself in danger just to comfort a little girl who was frightened, she is devastated by children's learned fear and hatred of her. Anyway what I'm saying is she would totally be like "ew, a child, keep it away" then proceed to be the absolute best uncle/aunt/sibling/godparent/mentor/friend imaginable. She would shapeshift into a little kid to play with them, or into animals like when she used to play with Gloreth. If they were adopted as an older child (not a baby) I think they'd glom to her first because she can make herself very physically non-threatening whereas two battle-scarred brick shithouses can't really do much to change how imposing they look besides trying to be as nice as possible.

I can imagine Ambrosius being a stay-at-home dad because while Ballister was actively extremely ambitious about his career, Ambrosius was just kind of shoved into it with no choice, and expected to be perfect. I can imagine him burning out and going like "Nope. Don't want that. Never wanted that, actually. I'm going to stay home and play Legos with my baby and the creature that lives in my house." Not to mention, while both the boys have dad energy, I think Ambrosius is more of an extrovert and would be less likely to get mentally burned out taking care of a little kid all day

One particular situation I like to imagine is them coming home from a date night after leaving Baby with Nimona and opening the door to see she's shapeshifted into one of them to calm the baby down. They are both screaming crying throwing up over how sweet it is before Nimona can try to explain themself away.

Can I request bonten and toddler reader? Where all of the bonten members aren’t home and the nanny who was napping leaving the reader playing outside. When bonten members come back to only find their son covered in mud and their home messy and mud everywhere as well? I hope it made sense lol.

(Name) was a little gremlin, the toddler loved getting into things and playing outside and most of all: he loved mud.

Like he could live in mud if allowed.

(Name) smiled as he made a mud castle, his nanny letting him play in the mud! By himself! Like a big boy!

(Name) was absolutely filthy, covered head to toe in mud and the biggest grin as he waddled into the house getting mud everywhere and his little tootsies getting tracks all over the expensive carpet as he went to look for a snack all while in his diaper (he abandoned the clothes when he was making the moat).

And where was his nanny?

Passed out on the couch.

Why? (Name) didn't care, mumbling something about naptimes as he managed to grab a box of cookies from the snack drawer and now down on as many as his heart could eat.

"Holy shit..." Takeomi said in horror as Bonten came home, the men actively trying to make time for their duckling who was passed out surrounded by cookies and an empty box as mud was e v e r y w h e r e "how did he get the tv?!" Koko said in shock as they assessed the damage and took notice of the sleeping nanny who had a muddy cheek "...we need a new nanny" Kakucho said annoyed "again"

Mochi lifted their passed out son, (name) muddy and crusty as he grunted annoyed "let's wash you up you muddy little piglet" he joked as he went to clean (name) who was half awake and annoyed as Rindō and Sanzu stood over her.

"Oi" Sanzu hissed as he kicked the muddy couch, realistically they could replace everything in here endless times over but that wasn't the point.

Their child.

Their beloved son.

Was left alone while they slept, thankfully the guards watched over him to the best of their abilities without leaving post to much, they knew to not interfere with this as they didn't like the nanny much either, one time they had to step in to protect the Bonten heir as she was losing her mind over him wandering with her phone she wasn't supposed to have out with him (they have dedicated schedules for tv and such for him as they don't want to stunt any emotional development as he learned to self soothe quite early in life) as he got VERY excited about getting to play "daddy" and pretend to talk on the phone.

It usually led to phones ending up in his little overall pockets or down his shirt.

"Wak wak!" (Name) squealed with his little rubber ducks, Mochi had to change the water three times already to get the mud out before (name) was clean, the boy in his little clothes "what happened bud?"

"Mud!" He said happily and Mochi sighed with a smile "yeah, you had a lot of fun with mud today"

(Name) cuddled in his dad's arms as his little head rested on mochis shoulder "there's our little mud monster!" Kakucho said taking the boy as Mikey and Sanzu made calls, the nanny nowhere to be seen.

"Found his clothes!" Koko said holding muddy designer clothes with a pen "I told you to stop buying him the expensive stuff unless it's for events" Takeomi said simply and grunted when the clothes were flung at him "the cleaners will be here in the morning, it would be to loud for (name)" Sanzu grunted as (name) reached for him and Sanzu held him by his little armits "you are so messy!" He playfully yelled at he shook the tot lightly "we wash?"

Huskers hat creature is SMALL, they like the warmth from his fur, you take a lil' nappy nap, snoozy time, when he was a overlord they would help him win casino games, how you ask? I don't know, I don't know how it works but probably by stealing cards or something, his hat creature is probably drunk off their rockers too! Probably chill in cups when not in the hat.

Lucifers hat creature is a duck, 100% a regular duck, a duck that likes to vibe in a hat, that's all I got, the hat quacks. [Lilith gave you to him before leaving.] He likes to show you off to Charlie and the other sins "LOOK AT MY DUCK! THEY REALLY LIKE MY HAT HAhaA"

ANGEL'S CRIME HAT, his lil hat creature is just a lil' guy! He treats em' like a second child [the first is fat nuggets obviously] takes you out of the hat to dress you up, you probably ride fat nuggets like a horse when out of the hat, crime hat creature is totally small enough for that,

I despise Valentino so the bastard is, as per usual dying.

He doesn't have a hat gremlin he has a hat cursed demon leech.

Cursed leech wasn't always cursed, they originally clinged to one of Valentino's victims who ran out during extermination day and you can guess what fate they met.

You, the little hat thing wanted revenge for your fallen friend and so you exited the hat you were originally attached to and infested Valentino's.

Valentino has a constant headache because you bite, sharp teeth piercing his skin, he can't take the hat off because you latch on like a leech, you probably have some diseases that transfer to Valentino so he has to go to the doctors often.

Hat leech will eventually lead to Valentino's permanent death and only then will they be satisfied in taking revenge for their fallen friend, they will exit Valentino's hat and return to the one they left, maybe they'll move on to someone else and be their friend but until then they're on their own.

Vaggie doesn't have a hat gremlin, she has a BOW gremlin, allegedly came from heaven, you are the bow itself. Unraveling to be a bow creature that helps taking people out.

Bonus for Vox because he has a hat right? Or am I delusional we'll find out.

Lil robot creature, totally doubles as a spy, vox's hat is sometimes seen around the hotel stalking Alastor.

SUSAN MY BELOVED OLD GRUMPY LADY, I gotta write for her again soon!

They probably get into fights, the folks of cannibal town just see Susan's hat and Rosie's hat going at it, dueling probably with weapons I can see them using guns or sticks, sharp sticks,

Susan likes her hat creature, treats em' like a pet and feeds them sinners.

What was Lucy Gray/the covey’s strategy for raising kids in the wilderness without getting caught by the public eye? (Also what was the covey’s opinion/reaction to finding out Lucy Gray was pregnant?)

Good question, I don’t think they had a strategy at first with each single member trying to make it till next month dragging Lucy Gray along the way. Each incoming child had to be taught and excluded from the same thing, which was going out into the district towns. In the book they lived at the edge of the Seam near the forest edge if I recall correctly, I have no idea how it is with neighbors, idk if they have any, in the movie they don’t seem to have they are surrounded by the meadow and trees (On set pics show some kind of run down trailers they call the “covey nest” which I adore…4 hour cut where are you my beloved) So I don’t think people would notice or care about little wild gremlins running around or Lucy Gray giving birth where nobody goes voluntarily anyway.

Upon her revealing it to the covey there were some mixed reactions about the reveal, especially with Tam Amber and Barb Azure being the oldest having the most worried ones. Lucy Gray insisted on keeping it a secret for the babies sake with the two oldest Covey members agreeing. The one with the most reaction variety was Barb Azure, while Maude Ivory and CC thinking about names, where to put a little crib, colors, new and old lullabies or if the babe would like goat milk.

Did I ever talked about ALL (until now) Rex crew? I think I only said about Rosa, so here goes a little resume (yeee, most of them don't have names yet, it’s one of the last things I do when thinking about a new OC)

WE HAVE:

- A man in his 50s – the navigator – is a senior pirate who has been part of multiple crews and has always found trouble due to his gambling problem. He started handling the money and was good at it until he spent all of the crew's berries in a casino (and still owed the owner). That day, Rex prohibited him from even LOOKING at the vault where they keep their berries. But very quickly, they discovered that all of them sucked at managing money in general, so the position was returned to him under some conditions (*cough cough* threats) and with a hawk eye from her and her first mate. He’s the father of the group – literally –, as he is married and has two sons whom he loves very deeply, giving him a paternal side. He cares about all of them as if they were his children, gives the best hugs, good advice, bad examples (do what he says and not what he does). He sees the potential in all of them and with the Raven Pirates, he wants to become a better person and turn the world a little nicer for his kids to live in. Make them proud. 

- An ex-Celestial Dragon in his 20s (a little more, a little less) who gave up his privilege and comfort to follow his captain and learn more about the real world. Sometimes he forgets he’s not in Mary Geoise anymore and can be kinda arrogant, narcissistic, and an asshole, but he’s trying to get better! Baby steps. The man is also brutally honest and has problems controlling his tongue, but he is very loyal and protective – especially with Rex – with whom he has formed a special bond when they were kids. Slowly, he starts being more caring with his crew and cares for them like family, showing his love for their company not with words, but with actions. He likes hugs more than his pride allows him to admit and is very attentive, enjoying the act of caring. Due to his knowledge of medicine, in addition to being the shooter of the Raven Pirates, he also works as the nurse, assisting the crew's doctor when needed.

- A girl in her 17 (all ages are pre-time skip), an ex-spy for the World Government. She was part of a currently discontinued project in which orphaned children were used to spy and obtain information without arousing great suspicion. But children grow up and when she turned 15, she was sent (without her knowledge) on a suicide mission. She survived but was not left without after-effects from the huge explosion she caused, having lost much of her hearing capacity and suffering painful injuries. Despite officially only occupying the position of cook on the crew, the girl does a lot. She is the master of disguises, knows how to cook, sew, do makeup, knows a lot about explosives, and is amazing with her nunchucks. Every day they discover something new about the girl. In personality, she is full of energy, a gremlin, disturbing everyone with her crazy ideas and jokes, but everyone likes how much she brings life to the team. She has very questionable taste in “cute” stuff, but she is sweet, very concerned, anxious, and helpful. She still has to deal with a lot of obstacles, especially emotional ones, but the other Raven Pirates will always support her.

I didn't notice it was so much until a finished, im sorry T-T but thats it (a l cut a lot off to make it shorter, a swear)

I had to take a moment to not fall in love with the navigator / treasurer. He seems problematic. I'm gonna blorbo him.

Little gremlin child seems like so much fun. Making bombs, causing chaos, little revolutionary if there ever was one.

ANYWAY: some headcanons with Dukexiety (and also Roman, I guess).

Remus doesn't care who knows about their relationship, but Virgil's still a little hesitant about telling people, so he respects that

Remus will flirt with Virgil openly. Virgil is okay with this. The Others are like "in front of my salad?" (except maybe Janus, he's too used to Remus to care)

Roman especially notices how Remus seems to only flirt with Virgil, which has his Romance senses tingling

Sometimes Virgil flirts back. This flusters the Duke with glee every time it happens.

Snuggle buddies! Especially is Virgil is recovering from/dealing with a bad spiral or Remus' thoughts are getting too loud or if either of them is upset about something

Remus is a hoodie-stealing gremlin. Virgil knows this, and has a spare hoodie just for Dukey to steal.

Mr. Fuzzy will purr because it's a sentient creature-plushie-thing. Virgil found this out one time when Remus was over in his room and they were cuddling. Mr. Fuzzy was nearby on the bed and purred at seeing them relaxing for once. It jumpscared Virgil.

When Roman figures out "oh shit, my brother and my bestie are dating, proably", he decides to ask Remus about It (he doesn't wanna freak Virgil out). Remus is like "ha, what?" just as Virgil comes into the room and hears what's going on. Virge is kinda suspicious of how Roman figured it out before he's like "I'm literally Romance, what-" and then yeah. Virgil and Remus tell him they're dating and Roman's supportive. His first response is along the lines of "okay, but like, why my brother?" (lmao)

Roman now knows about Dukexiety. The Others still don't. He uses this to his teasing advantage without giving things away. Virgil wants to throttle him (/aff).

Eventually, Virgil's okay with everyone knowing and so they tell the Others. Janus is mostly unfazed. Patton is a little confused but also gushy. Logan's like "...was that not common knowledge??". Apparently, he also figured it out. He and Roman bond over the fact that they figured it out before everyone else. More teasing ensues.

(c!Thomas) Thomas has no clue. No fucking idea. The twins will use this to their advantage of vaguely joking about it. Virgil now wants to throttle both of them (/aff).

Roman sees how happy his brother is with Virgil, and sometimes will get a little sentimental over seeing Remus happy. Remus doesn't get to be happy a lot of the time, so it's nice to finally see him just get to be happy.

Thomas once summons Dukexiety in the middle of kissing each other and that's how he finds out. He just stares for a solid five minutes like "wait, what?" (Remus finds this funny. Virgil makes sure they didn't break Thomas.)

your beloved Papa is a busy guy, so for as much as you want to follow him around and see what he's doing at all hours of the day, but unfortunately between the danger and sometimes general annoyance that you can be he has a tendency to dump you on the nearest available babysitter. in your mind he'll leave you with anyone, in his those babysitters are quite carefully chosen and often trusted members of the Fatui who he knows wouldn't dare cause harm to a child of his lest they never know a peaceful day again.

he makes time for you however, even if the resulting workload is so daunting he thinks he'd rather drop dead on the spot. it's important to Pierro that many of your life lessons and learning experiences come from him, as well as many of your memories. he likes to hear your voice and feel you catapult onto him after a long day of work like you're some little rodent who digs its claws in and won't let go. he likes the million questions you ask him and he loves when you stand up on your toes with your hands grabbing at the air in front of him wanting to be picked up and carried around. it's quite cute.

of course Pierro obliges you, scooping you up in his arms and letting you cuddle up to him and sometimes you'll hide under his coat where you think you're just so invisible under there even with the very visible mound you make under there. you think you're so sneaky though, so he can't bring himself to do anything but chuckle when you peek your head out to ask him if he knows where you went just now.

you much prefer the days when he's home for you to play with him, even if he sometimes doesn't feel like playing, wakes up late while you're bouncing off the walls at the crack of dawn unable to wind down again. you try to be quiet and just curl up next to him when you get bored, squirming your way under his arm. sometimes you try to imitate what he does at night when you notice him stirring as a result of you shaking the bed, reaching up to pat his head and, a tad awkwardly, you stroke his forehead. he can't complain waking up to you shushing him and trying to lull him to sleep.

he always cuddles you close when that happens. he wonders what he'd do if you weren't there.

something about you abundance of innocence makes him happy you're growing up when you are, even if he worries you won't be there forever. he's happy just to watch you figure out the world, excitedly telling him a commonly known fact like it's a revolutionary advancement. he likes it when you get to be a child even if you sometimes misbehave or do silly things. he wishes for you to never grow out of your habit of seemingly trying to wind him the second you see him.

he does have rules however, important rules. some are about coming to see him at work, like not bothering Miss Arlecchino too much, leave the Balladeer alone, stay out of the way of the fatuus, don't take your shoes off outside of his office, don't talk to the youngest because he's a bad influence-- oh, and don't wander into the Doctor's lab. he'll take your fingers and toes. you squealed when you heard that last part, saying something about how "I like my fingers and toes!" and vowed to yourself to never go in there. a little kiss on your forehead was enough to calm you down, along with the promise that he only takes your fingers and toes if you go into the room.

on long trips he tends to leave you in Pulcinella's care, who he knows cares for the family of the youngest harbinger in his absence and who you are familiar with. he can't think of a single person who he actually trusts with your care but short of taking you with him (which is far too dangerous), he takes the best he can get, though if Pulcinella isn't available he's begrudgingly willing to entrust you to Signora, who seems to like you well enough to arrange for you to be well fed and happy.

he knows you much prefer having him home however, when he tells you stories of your homeland and you lay your head on his shoulder where you're safe and protected next to him. he will always be at ease when you are dozed off up against him with a stuffie cuddled in your arms where his hand still strokes your forehead as his way of lulling you to sleep.

he's not sure that he particularly wants you to grow up. can't you just stay small and cute forever?
