hey guys I just connected some dots and when I say to you that we owe every 5sos gf since 2011 so much better treatment that doesn’t even cover half of it. it’s one thing to empathise over the internet sure but when it’s a real person less than 2 degrees of separation from you it feels so much more like. this is a human who deserves to be adored and celebrated just as much as a man she’s associated with and it’s like. I know I can’t gift anyone else the experience of empathy in like being a local or whatever but when I tell you that this fandom has inadvertently done so much damage to not only women who happened to know the boys but also to their professional careers and music and things they choose to share with us (or stop sharing with us) please believe me and please join the conversation around the fact that yes we’ve done a really shitty job in the past. but we’re growing up and we can do better I believe that 100%

Last Thursday morning (in Australia) I was scrolling through X and boom the TMZ article came up. I didn’t believe it at first but then I was shocked and saddened by the news. Liam was too young and the world had let him down. My heart breaks for his family, his boy, the boys and his friends
This time 8 years ago after going to my 4th funeral for the year I decided it was time to move from the city to the “edge of nowhere” (rural Soth Australia) as I was sick of doing life rather than experiencing it. If the boys decide to just disappear I get it.
3 years ago I lost 3 people in a month I found out about the 3rd when I was at the wake for the 2nd person. I went around to my friends place and downed 500 ml of whiskey (I barely drink)
We all cope with grief differently and I hope everyone is finding a healthy way to do it. I disassociate from the persons death but reflect, on their life, those that loved them and my own life.
So this past week ish I’ve been thinking about my friends/family members mental illnesses, my mental health, social media and the music industry.
Treat people with kindness pftt Treat people with some fucking humanity people! Behaviour on SM is shameful
Music is an amazing thing. I am a Louis music fan and his music saves my mental health. I’ve listened to 1D this week and while the music isn’t really my taste the music brings smiles as some songs remind me of videos I’ve seen and others ignite core memories of my daughter making up dances with friends. However, the music industry is a dark place and while I want to send a big fuck you to all the powers to be, I need music in my life. So it’s a big do fucking better music industry!
Liam, the world will miss out on the magic you could have shared with more of your music. But RIP we will remember your contribution to making people smile with your music, and antics on stage and SM xxoo

One of the things I love about Glass Onion is the way that the camera and music work together to tell nonverbal jokes.
Like when Benoit basically has to hold Miles' hand to get him to the conclusion that someone reset the puzzle box Benoit lies about receiving:
Benoit asks if it's possible that someone reset the box, and Miles then declares that someone must have reset the box like it is this huge reveal - and the camera zooms out while the music subtly swells as though he really has figured out something smart, when actually he literally restated what Benoit just said.
#original#I love the reveal that he's not even a smart con artist he's just a piece of shit#he's just a shameless copycat that people keep enabling to do bad things bc they assume he knows what he's talking about bc he's rich#like that line in Fiddler on the Roof - 'it won't matter if I'm wrong or if I'm right cuz you're rich they think you really know!'#glass onion#knives out glass onion#benoit blanc#Daniel Craig#ed norton#I hope the YouTuber sideways does a video about this because he does incredible music theory videos about movie scores#and I bet there are a bunch of hidden meanings within the music that I have no idea how to pick out#that man is like a wizard to me I don't understand how someone can understand music that much!#So cool!#I started this movie like 2 hours ago and I'm barely half an hour in cuz I keep stopping to write film theory essays on Tumblr#oh Adderall you cad!#I have no regrets I feel like this is helping me understand film better. i care a lot about the language of Storytelling#and I must say my favorite medium is film. I am writing a graphic novel right now but if I knew I could just skip that part and make it#into a show. I would do that. I don't wanna draw that much! I like drawing! but I want to see it as a show!!#this is too many drawings!!!!!#but for various reasons the film industry is not really a great place for me - or even possible as a physically disabled person#hard to work yourself up to the director's chair when all the entry positions involve standing for 14 hours at a time#I hope that if I ever do manage to make my graphic novel into a TV show that I will maintain enough control over the project to ensure#accessible hiring practices and workplaces#but in the meantime I guess I have to make waaaay too many drawings#no I can't shorten the story I don't have that kind of control it is an epic saga and the world's longest Slow Burn and that is that

#and all of this is true while it is ALSO true that her songs age incredibly well#even debut or random soundtrack songs or endgame#whatever song people try to put on the worst Taylor songs list NEVER QUITE BELONGS#it doesn’t feel right. and to some extent occasionally in mercurial flashes I feel the same about her BEST songwriting list#I can never rank anything of hers ever because she can write better than she has written#if anything finds her own songwriting dead it’s what her future self will be able to achieve#and I think sometimes even the public can SENSE this about her and it’s part of why people are sooooo hard on her in a brutal way#and in a way they never are with other artists. who have reached the limits of their potential#Taylor has not reached the limits —that’s the simple way of saying it#in some way she is still figuring out the artist she is going to be#and I really do think that it is going to be absolutely astonishing#because in some ways (this is going to sound crazy) she is still distracted by her success and her tour#she’s NOT but I mean. the canon hasn’t been fully set free#there are still somehow things holding her back#and we’ve watched her outstrip so much of those early confines that fame and the business of the music industry strapped around her#we’ve seen her say ‘that doesn’t apply to me’#but actually she’s going to and she needs to and I believe she WILL continue to move into rarefied air#my mom helped me give me the final piece of this feeling (and it’s just a deep gut intuition/brain chemical thing for me)#when she said one day almost in mild exasperation: maybe one day Taylor will grow into a Dolly Parton#and something CLICKED#in my brain. and I don’t agree with my mom in terms of her non-interest in Taylor (as much as it has pained me to do so)#I think she’s worth loving and paying attention to now#but that gap that exists between people who love her and people who don’t (full time haters internet trolls do not interact)#I think it’s going to close with time as her work stretches out and out and grows and changes#like I think by the end of her career we are going to have something so astonishing#and to loop it back for a second to a previous thought. I think that’s why sometimes a taylor song can sound disjointed to me. because it#will hit the Depths of the Depth for a second. it will transcend and then it will go back to merely being an excellent pop song#those flashes are everywhere in her work but I think she is going to work and hone them into being conductors of light in a more steady way#the older she gets. does this sound INSANE. idk sometimes I think it does and then sometimes I think it DOESNt. so who knows. but yeah#it’s hard to say because I know it will read as more critical of Taylor than I mean it to be. when really I mean it with so much awe

#I've had the most incredible couple years career wise#and like there have been some pitfalls etc#but like overall the amount of growth and how much money I've saved and established myself financially is insane#it would send 2019 me into a fucking coma#but everything and I mean EVERYTHING is just tumbling down down down#idk how I feel about touring I can't decide#and the music industry is dead until March anyway#my Etsy shop is effectively dead#I just lost a graphic design gig and like the person they hired instead of me did an undeniably 10x better job#and I feel like I have kind of lost the language in that regard like I used to feel like I was pretty Up There in terms of skill#but Ive just fallen very far behind people as new technology becomes available and I don't adapt and I lose track of where to get assets et#and couldnt find them if I did because. algorithm and social feeds and how rapidly we are losing the ability to archive in this internet ag#this is also true for my photo work and editing#so I genuinely don't know WHERE people are learning from#and idek WHERE to go to learn to get my knowledge up to date bc all search engines are bad and fucking algorithm-y#it's been too long since I've bartended I feel like I've lost the muscle memory of those skills#and idk if I could get rehired at a place like my bar in Melbourne short of a miracle because that whole place in my life WAS a miracle#and like idk what tf to do#I feel like I'm just floating through time and space with absolutely no purpose right now#and no income either! like what the fuck do I even do#how tf do I even fix this when I feel completely directionless#and all the things that fuel me have dried up?#and after how good things have been and how BAD things were for me 5 years ago#I like physically cannot process how fast I am free falling down down down rn#like I am headed towards that again pretty fucking rapidly and I can't even wrap my head around it

i think its really fitting that the "this shit........ is so ass :'') " anime girl reaction image is from oshi no ko because that is also what my expression was like the whole time while reading the entire last third of the story
#theres like what. one or two chapters left? we are almost free. we are almost free#i hope they make the adaptations better. its such a weird ass manga#like it started solid albeit full of hashtag anime weirdness so a bit of a hard sell#and then like for a while there it was just like a genuinely good showbiz drama. the best arc was the stageplay arc we know this#although one thing about it that ive always noticed. for a manga with a premise about like. isekai idol revenge thriller. its like#so uninterested in idols? like while the showbiz entertainment industry drama was pretty great at times it like. ignored the idol side#like it did a tiny bit of stuff here and there but by the second half it had completely forgotten about it LOL#im curious if the anime and live drama will expand that more. the anime has lots of like tie in idol songs ive noticed#MY THOUGHTS on how the finale's been going: the character motivations are genuinely incomprehensible to me now like#the antagonists motivations and character and everything got so deflated i couldnt track it anymore#BUT i do think its bold to kill off ur protag like that. was it done well? not really no LOL#BUT it was bold. i think my eyes were so glazed over around then that such a last minute turn like that... it kinda ruled <3#i think theres been leaks about the last chapter or two? which i havent seen yet. but yeah rn thats where my opinion is#still love the music from the anime tho even tho i never watched it. also again even though the character motivations got like#so muddled and deflated by the end that i dont even know what the eye star symbolism is going for anymore -#I STILL think those eye stars rule thats a really great 00s shoujo manga esque character design choice#edit: TURNS OUT THE LAST CHAPTER WAS OUT i read it.... :') this shit. truly was ass

Randomly remembered all those times someone on a forum or wherever would ask, like, "if your comic was ever turned into a movie or a tv-show, what would you want it to be like", and I was always spewing something about obvious answers like Fortiche or whatever
BUT ACTUALLY. That's wrong.
The correct answer is that I would want it to be filmed as one of those film-student-project fan movies. Where no one has any money and their camera isn't stabilized and the 'sets' are all local buildings but everyone is very committed to making it work with what they have. And all the actors are friends or classmates or someone's parents and therefore look especially real and human.

I mean, I (a white middle-class Brit) do not have a good answer for what you do with the knowledge of, for example, the number of classic country stars who stumped for segregationists like George Wallace. Except that acting like country music was all pro-working class and anti-capitalist before 9/11 isn't helpful.
Yes, there have always been songs sympathising with the working man and about hard times. Many country artists came from working class backgrounds.
But then again you can also count the black Opry members past and present on one hand. There were blackface performers on the Opry in the 40s. The black artists who contributed to the development of country music have often been overlooked for a long time (e.g. Lesley Riddle, who went song-collecting with A. P. Carter). Many many classic country artists had conservative politics. You can't overlook all that. It doesn't help anybody and it's important to examine these things. Country has a very long and complicated history and I don't think you can look at in isolation from the history and politics of the south as a whole

Last night I found more comments like this but of course I can't find them now!
Mikey (for those of you who don't know) was from Boyzone (Ronan Keating's old band.)
This industry needs to do better.

thinking about the way when i interact with fellow aussies on here I see so much disappointment about how they didn't come here on their last tour. how sydney 5sos fans are a different brand of human i'm not really sure how to describe (we all freaked out when we went to the same concert lauren was at for example). thinking about how the australian leg of take my hand tour felt like it was almost its own thing, sandwiched between the gap after the bulk of the tour before it and that short gap before they announced the most recent tour after it--almost as if it was meant to bridge both of those tours. how they played in newcastle and on the gold coast and it wasn't quite cairns or coffs but it was a bit more than your state capitals headline tour. how, with the exception of the big four, we often don't realise how small our cities are on a global scale. there are only 27 million of us on this desert island.
thinking about how they wrote easy for you to say and had to perform it on tour six months before its actual release, it was so important to this setlist, to the vibe, and how it's about nostalgia and missing sydney and they finished the tour in sydney and it makes me wonder, i can kind of guess when the song means the same thing to me, how much it hurts to be able to perform here and yet not be able to stay for longer than a holiday. and yet they do do that for us, put on shows about as regularly as any other artist does. even if they didn't play splendour in the grass. or falls festival. even if it's been four years since fire fight australia, it was only months ago sierra was promoting beyond blue as a charity to donate to. friends of friends did some fundraiser for a youth centre in blacktown: maybe I have to look to see it, but I can see the impact they've left.
and then I see how happy they all seem to look when they've gotten a chance to hang out in australia. ashton covering songs in the heat. calum obviously having a blast. luke dropping sydney pics that were assumedly from before it got really hot, looking carefree, a familiar skyline and familiar urban graffiti. the way when michael arrived in perth for the first time after lockdown he simply had to tell us all right away. and i've always kind of seen them coming back here for good? heck, joel madden even assumed right on his podcast some of them might have already. the way ashton doesn't have a dog in the states, and how i've always seen him with an aussie. the way luke integrates seamlessly into the life and culture of the inner west area; and calum carries blue mountains vibes with him wherever he goes, as michael does with the sydney pop punk scene. we know brandy and sierra at least love australia--i was actually fangirling about sierra in their comments with the veronicas just the other day (bless them for deciding my comment was something that needed to replying to). while crystal does have a massive group of usamerican friends and family I can see her enjoying the vegan places in melbourne and brisbane (they're coming to sydney too. the inner west and parts of the north side are almost there) and maybe being a little more hopeful about politics. I can also see it being a really healthy place to raise lua.
maybe it's the hopefulness of an urban designer who sees the impact of art and culture and having people around who create for a living on our cities, but maybe I see myself in 20 years bringing my kids to see them play and being able to tell the story of a series of songs (red desert, efyts, whatever is next in the theme in the works for 5sos6 as well as the solo stuff like a lot of wfttwtaf and boy) and how they figured out what we all have to, how to find and create a place that's home to you--because it's actually a pretty likely event. and i love seeing the evolution from the 'let's get out' / 'worked every weekend just to get out of town' vibe of self titled and sgfg to now. I really do want them all to feel like they can relax now after so many years of working and depriving themselves of the love that comes from belonging (I do feel like we've heard more about it from luke and ash specifically) and I also get the subtle vibes of where that might happen. and how much it might hurt when they don't get to have that. what did they do for aussies? gave us hope that we could make it, in whatever we want to do and whatever success means for us. maybe it's just me though. for now. maybe i've got the expectations of someone who grew up unable to afford things like concerts mixed with the anticipation for this june. I hope i'm not projecting, but also, the empathy I feel when I see myself in someone is usually spot on.
so idk. one day i'm gonna design some really classy public housing made to unfuck the status quo and i'm gonna raise money to build it and sierra will write a song and say she's doing a donation to this charity in australia doing things about homelessness and the class divide and it's gonna help me fund it. that's just one option of something i can see going down that's not completely unrealistic if very very optimistic but it's how i live my life. but i'll go to a 5sos concert eventually. i'll play their songs i've arranged with an orchestra one day too and we'll do it impressively, noticeably. i don't really know what else i'm supposed to expect? I know my experience is worlds away from many people's. but these guys inspire me to create and I don't really need anything else to do that.

nepo babies =/= person from a rich family i always thought?
#i thought a nepo baby was specifically someone whose parents/relatives are in the entertainment/arts industries#like taylor swift isnt a nepo baby she just had rich parents?? they bought her way into a music career but with their money not any#connections they had in the music industry previously.#whereas like…Ben Platt would be a nepo baby because he is a stage and film actor and his father is a film producer and produced films#that star him.#that’s not really to say that one is better or worse than the other and i don’t really care about the discourse either way#(people being upset their fave don’t have an organic by-merits-alone rise to fame story kind of confuse me because it seems like a very#modern and out of reality way of thinking)#like i get that people are getting undeserved opportunities through (1) money (2) connections and then putting out subpar art which sucks#but i do kind of think that ultimately you can’t trick people THAT MUCH. kim kardashian threw a bunch of money at a music career and it#never went anywhere because she simply was not good and no one liked it.#billie elish has rich parents but no matter your personal taste you can’t deny she's found success because she has an audience for whom her#music resonates. idk if she would be as successful if her parents didn’t have money and she didn’t have the opportunities that gave her#and certainly there are millions of people as good or better than her at music (if you can even quantify it in that simplistic of a way) wh#will never get the opportunities she has had that gave her success but i also don’t think she would be as successful as she is if she was#less talented.#also this is literally the worst time in history to be worried about nepo babies lol not saying that no one should complain about nepotism#casting but like we are in the golden age of people achieving artistic success through grassroots means thanks to the internet#getting an audience for work that resonates with people without the machine of the entertainment industry backing you is more possible than#ever before#also and i only have to say this in this exactly corner of the internet#if you are a monarchist you can’t use the term nepo baby#sorry you just can’t

"But the CEO sold his car (he owns many) to support the girls!! So he has to be innocent!" Shut the fuck up
Kpop fans will literally bitch and moan about mistreatment when a member doesn't get as many lines as everyone else but when there's actual abuse suddenly the members are greedy and underestimated their hold in the industry
