Seeing the video of BO coming out announcing that they couldn’t play was sad (they sounded so disappointed) but hearing people scream dumb things at them broke my heart.

I’ve seen Bad Omens cancel a show. I drove for hours to watch them play for 30 minutes and then call it off. I get that it’s not what you want. But they can’t control that. In what world would these talented people who live for that experience choose to go against everything they have worked for?

I know that everyone on here reading this is on the same side, and that I’m just yelling into the void at the moment, but I’m just bamboozled at the behaviour of the crowd in the videos and I just hope to god that they all know that it’s just a handful of bad people in a sea of good 🫶

by whitewashing, I mean taking away his culture and the fact that he’s half Māori by essentially treating him as a white person and never mentioning otherwise, including never mentioning the way he might experience things differently due to his background, and the impact of being of a colonised Indigenous people in a white-dominated industry.

personally, I would also consider only ever referring to his skin as ‘tan’ in a way that deliberately avoids saying something like ‘light brown’ to be whitewashing but that’s a tricky one, because it can be a genuine assessment of a skin tone that’s accurate to his colouring—it’s more of the intention behind it, saying things in white person terms out of fear that using more accurate words is offensive, which is always hard to judge.

and I know it’s hard and a skill to be inclusive in a way that doesn’t draw up divides between people of colour and people experiencing white privilege, whilst not ignoring the fact that everyone isn’t the same nor fits into a white-normalised vocabulary. this is in no way villainising anyone who hasn’t checked their white privilege or the way that language comes across, but is intended to start a respectful conversation and hopefully result in the fandom being more intentional about recognising the impact of race.

Do you collect vinyl? What are your favourite records that you own?

I DO and so many! I have hundreds and I got rid of like a third of my collection a few years ago so the result is that everything I still have is something I actually really want. It's funny I just moved all of them from one place to another like 2 hours ago (not a common occurrence) so I was looking at some random ones on the way like ooh hey you... oh and that, and this! But for us I'll go with a few that will ping for people here, which are number one the Louis Just Hold On rock version single with lyrics etched in the B side which was not sold in the US and it was SUCH A HASSLE to get without paying a million dollars for it but I CHERISH IT (even though it's not that great a recording of the song :/) and the hot pink 2LP Icarus Falls, that album is so dear to me and I wanted to own a physical copy of it so bad but it didn't come out on vinyl at release but then randomly years later it did?!? It's beautiful and it's the way the album is supposed to be with the two halves separated, perfect, listening to just the Falls half is transcendent honestly. Also the Sign of the Times single, and signed Walls, but I will forever regret not getting the Lights Up single I want it so bad :(

Firstly [Russian composer Sergei] Rachmaninoff. It’s a close call between Franz Liszt [Hungarian romantic], Rachmaninoff and [Polish prodigy Frederic] Chopin. Some people argue that Liszt is up there, but Rachmaninoff has some kind of weird, dark edge to his music, which I don’t think I’ve heard with any other kind of music before. So for that reason I give it to him – he’s got a dark heart.
