@euphoriclusts | Lucas Taylor and Lex Armstrong, Late Night at a Bistro in Paris
Four days. That is how long Lex can manage peace, quiet, and focus before he sets out to find the man of British intelligence. The same mission, but separate work. After all, there was only so much teamwork their nations expected before political interest won out. Yet still, Lex reasons that a fair bit of camaraderie couldn't hurt. Better to attribute it to his innate friendliness, than the image of Lucas' lips so prominently in his mind. It does not take long to track Lucas down. He's not a spy for nothing. Sitting outside of a bistro, the lights of Paris shining on his features, Lex watches him for a moment. Never has he seen a man so beautiful, with such a hideous personality. Finally, Lex breaks the silence, sliding into the seat opposite him. "Of all the bistros in Paris." Lex greets coyly, as if it is a coincidence and not a ploy on his part. "What are we drinking?" He asks, relaxing into his seat. His hand reaching for the bottle of wine at the table, inspecting the label.

moved to its own post from here @galefcrce
❛ can’t sleep? ❜ from my Lex! @savingthrcw ¦ 𝐯𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬.
Sleep and Gale were not always the most harmonious companions, especially when the ceaseless worry of the orb and tadpole persisted in his mind. Rest, an intangible consideration in such trying times. Yet, Gale found a small refuge in the canvas of the sky above. Gale sat out near the burning embers of the campfire, face cast upwards as he traced the constellations in his mind. The stars above momentarily transported his thoughts to the Astral plane.
Yet, a voice brought him back to Faerûn. The words didn't instantly register, but the comforting voice of an ally kept him at ease. A slow, gradual lowering of his head tore his gaze from the stars above to Lex.
"I would have thought myself alone in such sentiments, yet you've proven me wrong," he offered a warm smile, a finger gesturing upward. "Though, I suppose the stars above provide adequate company too."
After a lifetime of loneliness, Lex had no idea of how to deal with the fact that suddenly she felt responsible and, worse, worried, about multiple people at the same time, who for no reason whatsoever had ended up following her lead most of the time. Weren't people like her supposed to become aggressive and wish ill fates on others? And yet there she was, worrying. And there she was, living what was supposed to be a nightmare, and yet deep down knowing that she wasn't hating it simply because she had people now. For a little. Didn't matter if they didn't feel the same, only that she had felt a part of something.
So, seeing that Gale was still awake, she had decided to check on him, because he was one of the people she worried for the most. He and Karlach, who could be gone in a moment. "Always loved them," she agreed softly, sitting down next to him so she could look up and watch the sky. "But I'll admit I never felt like I had company, just that I was lucky something so pretty was free." Not exactly poetic, she thought to herself, but they had been traveling together for a while now, and speaking up her thoughts was unfortunately becoming more and more natural to her. "Why can't you sleep?"

(Discussion content note: Abuse & murder)
I really wanted to like this moment.
I tried searching around on twitter and tumblr to see what the live fan reactions were at the time, particularly if there were critiques of this moment. I couldn't find any (please link if you know one!!). The scene seemed to largely be loved by fans.
I think I get what they were going for in the scene. Because there is great power in walking away from toxic situations (particularly for those raised in abuse, breaking sometimes generations-long cycles). I think they wanted that moment to feel a lot like the ending of Labyrinth:
But it didn't land for me.
Unlike Labyrinth - where Jareth loses all power - Lex only gained power in this move, by assuming full ownership of LuthorCorp (which itself doesn't make sense, legally, to me - but I digress). The show frames it as Lex "getting everything he ever wanted", which is convenient for the plot.
But "get total control of LuthorCorp" never seemed like the primary goal for Lex when it came to Lena. His relationship is defined by manipulating her. His deal with the Monitor meant he could imagine Earth Prime however he wanted - but he specifically asked the Monitor to keep Lena's memory intact. He doesn't just want LuthorCorp, he wants an adversary to control.
Abusers tend to be at their most dangerous when the victim tries to walk away, which I wish people would talk about more. To me, it makes more sense for Lex to try to drag her back into the game (which he now has more resources to do!) - not go to the future (?) and fall in love (??) with a non-human (???). (Though it's not the first time the show has jerked around the narrative at the cost of previously-established characterization.)
I'll admit that I may have personal bias here, in that someone I cared about was murdered after walking away from her abuser. In real life, walking away is almost never a single moment where the abuser responds with "cool, I won". If you're thinking "Mel, it's just a show, it's not that deep" - maybe you're right. The show is always balancing real-world themes with magic superpowers, and there's a certain suspension of disbelief that comes with that.
But for me, the moment didn't land.

You know what? I'm bringing it back.
I know this is probably the third time I've taken something on and off my muse list, but I'm gonna go ahead and put Justice League Action back on my muse list. I'll actually have to watch the show for research, but if I can watch the entirety of Young Justice, then I can find a way to watch the entirety of this show too.

My only comment about the idea of a verse with matthew apart of the vampire chronicles universe, is the fact that marcus pointed out the whole vampires like people being scared of them kink from day one. so when he inevitably pretends/claims to not associate with the majority of his species like the introvert he is, I just shake my head at him x)

Layla did genuinely love asher, but it also was different than the love she felt for spencer or Jordan. Spencer was devastating for a number of reasons, but it was also easier to believe that spencer loved her back, in a way, than it was for asher. After learning about asher & olivia and her own feelings for spencer, it was easy to convince herself that what they had was just convenience.
They made sense. She was the popular it girl, class president, and he was was the football star. They ran in the same circles. They both felt isolated from their families, although I don't think this was ever discussed between them just something that later would be recognized as comforting in a way. They were supposed to be together, and after he life changed dramatically, she clung to that even as the feelings drifted away.
So it's very easy to look back and think the feelings were never there in the first place, but they were. It was real, and for a short time, it was very important to her. But it was very easy for her to believe it didn't mean anything to him at all, that he didn't actually love her, and that he felt stuck out of obligation from the very beginning. These feelings intensify after learning about spencer confessing his love to Olivia right before hooking up with her because she constantly feels like this placeholder until people find something (someone, Olivia) better.
#okay serious post since lex got me thinking about it#muse: layla keating#meta: layla keating#dyn: layla x asher

@euphoriclusts | set in the 1960's, our muses are longtime rivals turned partners-in-spying!
"If you glare any harder, we may fail to convince these people we're simply here for fun." Lex, short for Alexander, heeds with a glass of scotch in hand. Their competitive banter was fine out in the regular world, or in the privacy of their agency. But on a mission, there was no room for it... And still, he manages a quick smarmy smirk. "It's not my fault I wear a suit better than you." Despite himself, his eyes glance over at him. That may not be as true as he wished it to be.

[ NAUTILOID. ] A starter where our muses awaken on the beach after the nautiloid crashes. // from durge celegorm to lex :D @curufiin @unluckystars
Having spent most of her time in captivity attempting to free more people from the pods, she wasn't surprised to find others had survived the crash. After all, why not? There was no reason whatsoever why she should be alive and yet there she was. And where the hell was Lae'zel anyway? In her place, there was now the elf, to whom she offered her hand. And suddenly she saw what he saw - felt confusion, the mind swap again. "Hey, are you alright?" she asked, cringing slightly as the ache in her head dissipated when she didn't attempt to get into his head. "Any idea of how we survived the fall?"

I'm just imagining an unconscious Luthor on the ground during all of this possessing Flash and also joins in on the argument with the others.
He gets sidetracked cuz Grodd had the same idea and he's pissed a twink from Metropolis beat him to the punch and now they're fighting inside Barry's brain

#keroro#i will leave the audience to draw their own musings from this#also consider whenever he talks to his superiors he is likewise framed top to bottom to emphasize -#that hes below#aha bow down to authority#what do all of these pictures have in commow.... why! they are all above him :)#''but dororo'' he literally admits he feels he has a dept he's been saving up for towards him all his life#he says it's with money bc carillon but you can easily extend that to their whole relationship. to me. bc that's what it is#oouuughuhh im sooo inferior everyone else around me is so much better please forgive me#he does a lot of begging for forgiveness from someone that supposedly DOESNT have crippling amounts of guilt! ok ok i hear what ur gonna sa#but lex kerorowhump hes not begging tamama in that one picture. u are correct.#he is still pictured as inferior visually and bowing now that tama is the leader and he feels insignificant. i think it counts#in the... grand scheme.... of things...#wow mine yoshizaki very convenient youd have dororo tied to an extremely tall pole for keroro to bow down and look even more inferior to#by comparison#ok i will shut now#musing#headcanon

James Mcavoy and Micheal Fassbender (Their dads too ofc, i.e, the sirs) were such good actors that they could make a superhero movie franchise feel like it had a soul and was not mass produced for money. Can I just say, AcTiNg✨
