“Once upon a time, an ordinary young woman was mysteriously swept into Twisted Wonderland, and unwillingly gets tangled in peculiar events. But when she forms a genuine, lasting friendship with the people who waltzed into her new life, will she still wish to return home?”

A/N: Finally decided to post my Yuusona after three years of rotting in my drafts🤭. I’m thinking of writing my interactions with the characters for fun and to slowly get out of my writing slump.

𝐄𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐨:
Eye color: Hazel.
Hair color: Dark Brown (dyed Dark Red).
Other likes: Marine life, Road trips, Gardening, Shopping.
Other dislikes: Summertime, Superficial relationships, Overbearing people.
Favorite food: Mom’s food, East Asian sweets, Arabic cuisine.
𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲:
Hannah is a curious introvert with a dear love for adventures. She appears aloof and intimidating, but she has a warm heart and is genuinely a friendly woman with a dorky side. Despite her gentle and calm demeanor, she can be snarky and deadly serious when you press the wrong button.
𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐬:
(All are completely platonic).
★ Ace and Deuce share a sibling bond with her. She enjoys cooking for them, having movie marathons, and they occasionally invite her to unbirthday parties upon discovering her sweet tooth.
★ Ortho is her best friend and gaming buddy. Although they’re polar opposites, she gets along well with him due to the boy’s similarity to her closest cousin in real life.
★ Malleus is her other best friend and kindred spirit. They were awkward at first, but they eventually bonded over their love for their Tamagotchi, cold desserts and taking long walks at night.
★ Lilia is her adventure companion and partner in pranks. She considers him a soulmate because he’s the one whom she feels the most comfortable to be weird with. They might have an endearing relationship, but they’re enemies in the kitchen.
𝐅𝐮𝐧 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐬:
Hannah is her middle name while Bloom is a fake surname.
She’s of Spanish, Japanese, Filipino, Chinese and Korean descent, born in Saudi Arabia.
Her job irl is an English teacher. She plans to be a librarian someday.
She’s multilingual, fluent in many Arabic dialects due to being educated in an Arabic school.
If she was sorted in one of the 7 dorms, she’d either be in Ignihyde or Diasomnia.
Her favorite places in NRC are: the library, botanical garden, Heartslabyul garden and Sam’s mystery shop.
Most students don’t take her seriously because of her baby face (which she considers a curse sometimes). The only ones who believe that she’s in her twenties are Professor Trein, Riddle, Leona, Jack, Jamil, Ortho and Malleus.
She struggles with anxiety, ADHD, Lupus and chronic fatigue, but she always tries her best to survive the day.
She’s not a morning person, but she wakes up early to admire the sunrise.
Her coping mechanisms are watching Asian dramas and maladaptive daydreaming.
She values her alone time, but when you’re better than her solitude, she’ll warmly welcome you in her daily life.

Crows Fanfic AU Idea...
With all the Crows college fics that exist, we've been sleeping on the Crows Community AU. Hear me out...
Summary:
Six very different students share one very common goal: passing a stupid language class at the local community college. They form a study group, new unlikely friendships -- new romances -- and maybe, just maybe, figure out how to pass their class.
Details:
Nina speaks six languages already and the 101 class is so easy for her, why would she bother to switch for something harder? The others find out she’s fluent and beg for help. (Lol, not Kaz though. He doesn’t beg, nor need help. He just shows up to the study group because his class partner comes to the study group and he claims he wants Jesper to actually work so that they can both pass.)
Jesper needs help focusing, Wylan needs help reading and writing in a new language, Matthais struggles with pronunciation and speaking. Inej wants to make sure she's learning correctly. Kaz just uses the the time studying to complete his work.
Class partnerships are: Nina and Inej, Kaz and Jesper, and Wylan and Matthias. Their crappy community college may be a joke, but their motivations to succeed are very real.
Character/Plot:
Kaz: business major, needs the degree to keep his club legal and legally reputable. (It is most definitely not, and he uses it to help the other Crows.) Unofficial leader of the study group despite only speaking one language while everyone else is multilingual. Doesn’t actually need help studying, could do it himself, but there is a lot of group work in the class and he’ll never admit it, but he is entertained by the others and enjoys their company. Especially Inej because she's the only other sane member of the study group.
Inej: social work major, wants to fight for others rights and help the most vulnerable. Like most of the Crows, speaks another language, but it’s not the one being studied in class. Honest and sweet, she (and Jesper) are the emotional core of the group, given her ability to care about the Crows' well being more than studying.
Jesper: agricultural major, hates his major – is pretty sure he’s going to drop out because he doesn’t care about school, a bit of a slacker. Still incredibly smart when he applies himself. The Crows convince him to switch to a trade which is much better for him, now he just needs to tell his dad. (Yikes.) Immediately sleeps with Wylan and they both get awkward about it because they both thought the other wanted something casual, but they definitely don’t. Lets Wylan move in with him.
Nina: nursing major, is only going through the motions to get a degree because the one she already has doesn’t count because it didn’t transfer correctly when she emigrated, which is total bullshit in her very strong opinion. Speaks 6 languages and the group comes to her with help studying – actually in charge of the studying part of the study group. Shamelessly flirts with everyone and is driven crazy taking a relationship at Matthias’s pace.
Wylan: music major, homeless and stealthily living on campus because he technically doesn’t qualify for financial assistance (given his family’s wealth even though he has zero access to it). His father enrolled him in a community college instead of his family’s alma mater in order to embarrass him and expects him to flunk out. Wylan is determined to succeed. Works in the cafeteria, can speak class language very well, needs help with the reading/writing elements. Kaz forges some documents to get Wylan financial assistance and into campus housing. The Crows help him (and Jesper) get academic accommodations. Learns how to get help without being embarrassed.
Matthias: criminal justice major, arrested and released from jail, innocent and falsely accused, but having a difficult time getting back on his feet. He has a difficult time letting go of what happened to him and that it effects/limits his career opportunities. Hates how much he needs Nina’s help to pass the class, but he enjoys the one-on-one tutoring with her more than he wants to admit. He would rather slow down a relationship to court. Nina convinces him to let go of his anger and switch to a lit major, which makes him happier.
I want to read it so badly ... wait, what do you mean that I have to write it first?

(english is not my first language, so I tried to word it the gentlest I could, genuinely curious!)
Is there a reason to why the characters are playersexual? I tend to think playersexual characters are kinda boring, and those who have their own view and experiences with their sexuality feel more personable! Even Desma who could have had a crush on MC since they were young seems to have experience beyond MCs gender. Though I do think it's interesting to explore awakenings, and how the ROs deal with being in love with someone they thought they would never, or even a first love awakening! Thank you for your hard work!
(Thank you! And don't worry, my multilingual friend! More than happy to talk about how I think about these things.)
It's interesting, because I've never found playersexual characters boring, although I didn't really know they were called 'playersexual' until I started writing this and picked up some of the lingo. It's very possible that I'm using the term wrong, but to me, it just means that all the characters are available to be romanced by any MC.
One reason I made the ROs open to being romanced by anyone is to avoid anyone getting locked out of romancing a favorite. You don't feel like you're secretly not their type or that you're a second choice. I think it can make the romance feel more real and genuine, but that's just my personal opinion.
Another reason is because I really don't think too much about the character's sexuality outside the MC, unless it is relevant to the plot. This ties into my writing process as a whole! Under the cut is a pretty detailed analysis of how I write ROs and the MC. Shouldn't be any spoilers, but just in case.
When I come up with a character, I think of them first as a standalone character, and then as a love interest. I imagine the story that I'm telling from their perspective. That tells me their goals within the narrative and how the MC can relate and interact with them. Then I think about how they look from the MC's perspective.
When I think of their life experiences, it's in reference to how they appear in the story. To me, this helps them be more alive and fleshed out. How do they walk, talk, think, etc, and where does that come from. That's where I get some of the more detailed stuff. Laverna is pragmatic because both of her parents are. Sarai is guarded because she's learned the hard way that she has to be. Merikh loves and hates the color blue because it reminds him of home. And so on. These characters need to have things that make you want to know them better and possibly romance them, but they also need to be characters that impact the story, even if you don't romance them.
When it comes to the ROs, I also have to think about the characters falling in love with the MC. The MC has a core character. You play as a person that has felt abandoned, been both lost and found, and that has had to struggle to survive. The three things that attach the MC to the story are the mentors, the guilds, and the heavy hand of destiny. Now the challenge is, now that I've established these narrative rules, how do I make love possible. What does falling in love look like for each RO with the MC? Not just an FMC or an MMC, but also an MC with a high cruel stat or a high warmhearted stat.
All of this is to say that former lovers and experiences in sexuality don't factor heavily into how I develop my characters, at least not all of them. For example, Merikh and Sarai both have a relevant previous experience that contribute to how they respond to intimacy and relationships, so romancing them means that will have to be addressed, but a good chunk of the cast have no previous lovers, meaning their reaction to romantic interest and love will be based more on the pressures they're under and the relationships they've seen.
Hopefully the lack of detail in this area isn't too jarring, but here is my thought process and reasoning behind it!

the multilinguality of a lot of the witcher characters is something i love and also probably a feature resulting from sapkowski being a polyglot himself as well as creating a fantasy world that mimics the real one.
it’s a more obvious and crucial element in the hussite trilogy, but i think that it’s also significant in the witcher, too.
languages are not as simple as belonging to one people group. for instance, one can know one dialect of elder speech and be fluent in it, but struggle to communicate in another dialect.
there’s various dialects of elder speech, the first being the classical, the one spoken by elves. another one is nilfgaardian. another one is skellige jargon. another one is brokilonian… and there is an entire variant of elder speech used by mer-people and sea creatures, but it is sung, with one’s musicality, melody, and intonation affecting their accent.
and elder speech is needed for specific activities. if you cast spells? if you’re a human, you need to know classical elder speech, because the human way of casting spells requires incantations and hand gestures.
if that wasn’t enough, the concept of languages dying out and intermingling and evolving is also touched on.
for instance, the dwarvish language exists, but is quickly being forgotten as assimilation into human settlements becomes more and more common, and youngsters are reluctant to speak their own language
another example of time and the mixing of groups affecting the evolution of language is in the north case, a mountainous region in which nilfgaardian and northern tongues have been mixing for the past couple of decades due to imperialism and nilfgaardian expansion northward. and owing to this is an eruption of new slang using words from nilfgaardian has entered the local tongue.
(this part is just a headcanon:) there’s probably a lot of local languages and dialects, from regions the nilfgaardian empire consumed, that are various stages of dying because some places were conquered hundreds of years ago and some were conquered only a few decades ago
there’s even more obscure languages like the vampire language which is only known to us in a nauseatingly menacing, terror-inducing song and… an untranslatable pun.
what’s more is the curious use of latin words and phrases used as one mught use them today; for which, of course, the out-of-universe explanation is that sapkowski is addicted to using latin, but, in-universe is an ancient language with a similar role latin has in modern society being “translated” to our latin, just like the common tongue is being “translated” to polish.
and what i love the most about this is that this isn’t knowledge that lives in the background, not touching the lives of our characters. the characters’ abilities (or inabilities) to speak languages affects them in many ways throughout the story.
geralt speaks elder, but his brokilonian dialect is poor (at least during sword of destiny, in time of contempt he seems to have improved somewhat during his month-long stay)… and dandelion had to learn elder speech for his expedition to brokilon, to sing elaine ettariel and speak with the dryads, and you can see that he’s a beginner in the language.
milva gains multiple nicknames in elder from the elves owing to her service to them, not solely out of respect, but because her given name is hard to pronounce for them. and her present nickname, the one she should be proud of, is not of any of her attributes, but a familial title—sor’ca, sister.
another thing about milva is that she is illiterate, but at the same time, bilingual. one does not preclude the other!
cahir’s mother language is nilfgaardian, but speaks the northern common language because of his northern ancestry on his mother’s side. and in times of stress, his mind blanked on northern, as well as when he swore in nilfgaardian.
cahir can understand angoulême’s north case slang, as well as “translate” for the rest of the company, but they have probably run into confusion or frustration—“how did you get that from that?!”
and regis’ language is so obscure, he makes a joke in it to himself and no one else understands, but he still is clearly amused by it. and vampires seemingly also do not speak with their mouths, only using telepathy, so the acquisition of human language must have been a challenge for him. and i wonder how many human languages he’s learned only to later face their extinction. perhaps when he came back from the grave, the human language he had learned was now defunct, or rarely used?

Note
I am an ESL girlie like anon (I am from the Congo and my first language is French), and I also struggle so much with the fear of people not understanding what I am saying or laughing at me despite that I have been studying in the U.S. for 6 years now. I know I’m fully capable of speaking and can mask my accent pretty well, but as soon as I’m somewhere unfamiliar that fear just does me so wrong lol. I have to remind myself on a daily basis that I speak 4 languages, something that most of those people that like to make fun of foreigners aren’t able to do AT ALL. GO OFF ANON!!!!!
some people just don't understand how it is to be multilingual. like, they want to make us feel stupid and inferior to them when they don't know that in every conversation, our brains are constantly translating every single sentence into two or more languages with different syntax and grammar rules. IN REAL TIME. that's such an amazing ability and most of us have been doing it since we came out of the womb.
anyway, thank you for sharing, anon! you sound so eloquent in English btw. keep reminding yourself you're awesome despite small-minded people. good luck on your studies!! <3

tell us more about these projects! i’ve struggled to pick up languages again after an extended break and no time and a project-based approach seems very refreshing!
Apologies in advance for the long post. I do plan on making a more detailed post on this at a later point hopefully a video but I make no promises these days.
Important note!! Before you start any short- or long-term learning projects, begin a polyglot journal outlining your objectives and check in every two weeks with an extra detailed summary of what you’ve done, haven’t done, dislike, feel needs changing, etc. either once per quarter or 2x year. Your micro-goals, methods and timeline should shift over time, showing that you can reassess the project and try out new things to suit your needs. If you don't update on time it's nbd, but at least try to write a note in your planner or calendar about what you did when because it can be extremely helpful one year later when you try to revisit where you are now and how you got there. 🧿🤍
The main projects from 2019 to today include the following
Greek - Conversational Speaking, 2019
Goal: meet for casual 30-minute lessons with a teacher, 2 or 3x per week to build up conversational skills and high frequency grammar in use as a passive bilingual (it being the native language which I actively lost growing up for various reasons).
Reflection: The real studies were repetition in speech and looking up key vocabulary I would need to use to tell my teacher about what happened in the last week, and my teacher supplied me with additional vocabulary to help me be more specific. Now I have a record of that vocabulary which I can review whenever by topic/story. Plus my family did notice my drastic improvement and asked if I had been studying.
Irish - The Merlin Project (Quarantine Project), 2020-2022 (+ ongoing, needs new methodology because I met my aims a while back at this point)
Aim: Go from A2 to B1 by learning to write so that you can have the skills to be able to read longer texts
Challenge: Rewatch an episode from the last show that you watched and write down what you see in as much detail as possible, making sure to use a grammar point you’re currently studying in your writing. Look up new words to make the text more specific and add them to the description. Correct your text. Watch the same scene again and add more detail, as in the following:
Tumblr media
(Basically: first: do a grammar practice, then: watch 30 seconds, write using that grammar, translate dialogue if you want, consult dictionary, write again incorporating the new words and/or make the sentences more complex, at the end: correct your text yourself or with a teacher, start again and repeat until the scene or full episode is complete or you've exhausted the usefulness of the exercise.)
Alternatively just write or translate fanfiction, but I don't say that here.
By self-correcting you should become very confident on the basic skills at your level, whereas the rewriting itself allows for varied attempts at forming sentences and vocabulary acquisition in a specific context.
FYI I posted the project itself along with the notes to my website (here) and intend to share the presentation on the experience I gave in the Gaeltacht this past August soon enough.
Multilingual, select Romance and Germanic languages - The Diana Project, 2022-present
Challenge: dive deep into the rhythm, melody and sound of certain languages (which relate to a poet I’m analysing) via a slow read of poetry and familiarisation with the poet, poet-translator and poet-actor
Components: read, write, translate and recite poetry on the subject of Greco-Roman tragedy (now its shifting to satire after 1+ year or so of tragic influences) from select eras and in select styles, ex. ottava rima, rhyming verse & simultaneously learn about the rhetoric of poetics that influenced these authors and their poems or translations
These writings I’m still adding to my website as part of a translation, recitation and poetry portfolio.
Most recently, I’ve started what I call the Secret Senecan Project which requires reading certain ancient and mediaevil texts on stories I’m familiar with in the original, identifying key words based on context then extrapolating the grammar from their features (declinations, location in reference to other word forms, etc.). The next step will be to compare these predictions with the bilingual translation and consult my grammar books in those languages to confirm or improve my predictions.
If you’ve made it this far, thanks for reading! I hope to polish this up and make the details more learner-friendly sometime before 2024. (:

WOULD YOUR CHARACTER INITIATE CONVERSATIONS? - almost always / frequently / sometimes / never.
WOULD YOUR CHARACTER BE THE ONE TO END CONVERSATIONS? - almost always / frequently / sometimes / rarely / never.
WOULD YOUR CHARACTER USE 'WHOM' IN A SENTENCE? - yes / no / only ironically
YOUR CHARACTER WANTS TO MAKE A COUNTERPOINT. WHAT WORD DO THEY USE? - but / though / although / however / perhaps / mayhaps.

WHAT SOCIAL CLASS WOULD OTHERS ASSUME YOUR CHARACTER BELONGS TO, HEARING THEM SPEAK? - upper / middle / lower.
IN WHAT WAYS DOES THE WAY YOUR CHARACTER SPEAK STAND OUT TO OTHERS? - accent / vocabulary / tone / level / politeness / brusqueness / it doesn't. (when defensive, he starts to fluctuate between formalities and sarcasm. he gets flustered easily!)
~~
Sirenity (courier six) (he/she/they/any, usually in that order)
NO. OF SPOKEN LANGUAGES: 1 / 2 / 3 (fluent in english, esperanto, and spanish! conversationally fluent in french and latin, slightly less so in the various languages of Zion, and knows words/common phrases in arabic, japanese, chinese, korean, etc. etc., but having a conversation in those would be a struggle. can read in the International Phonetic Alphabet, picks up multilingual dictionaries whenever they can)
TONE OF VOICE: high / average / deep (they're an insanely good mimic. usually averages out to a neutral tone in casual conversation, but frequently changes pitch whenever it strikes their fancy :) )
ACCENT: Yes / No (southern United States)
DEMEANOR: confident / shy / approachable / hostile / other
POSTURE: slumped / straight / stiff / relaxed
HABITS: head tilting / swaying / fidgeting / stuttering / gesturing / arm crossing / strokes chin / er, um, or other interjections (ok, like, uh, whistles, poetry/song lyrics/literary quotes) / plays with hair or clothing / hands at hips / inconsistent eye contact / maintains eye contact / frequent pausing / stands close / stands at a distance (The Benny Incident hit the part of her brain that does language/sentence structure, as well as fucking up a whole lot more stuff. more on that later, important part here is that she takes a longer time putting sentences together, struggles to make sentences without interjections, and kinda has to move to think)
COMPLEXITY
VOCABULARY: ⬤⬤⬤⬤⬤ (dyslexia be dammed my boy can retain words. she's got a very large definition of what "courier work" is, and verbal messages land very firmly within that definition, so he's really really good at remembering a word once it's said to them.)
EMOTION: ⬤⬤⬤⬤⬤ (so genuine it's painful)
SENTENCE STRUCTURE: ⬤◐〇〇〇 (yayyyyy i get to talk more about Sirenity's inability to make sentences good! part of it is just the language use of the area, but most of it is The Benny Incident crossing wires, loosening screws, and stealing marbles. they're so bad at this. it's not the worst it could be! he's still very understandable! he just takes a while and sometimes his joining words and subject/verb/object order gets jumbled. and sometimes she has to walk away in the middle of a sentence and say an entire poem to herself. and sometimes she has to say a word in every other language they know. and sometimes she just has to say a bunch of words and hope to god whoever they're talking to can piece together what the sentence was supposed to be. it's bad. NONE of that features when they're delivering a verbal message as part of a 'job' or mimicking someone else, though. "but secondhand!," you say, "couldn't they just mimic someone else to get their sentence out?" and to that, I say, "that's a really good idea but unfortunately they find the idea morally icky and they're a REALLY genuine person so even if they didn't think it was morally icky, they'd still be really uncomfortable with it")
PROFANITY
FREQUENCY: ⬤⬤⬤⬤〇 (not every other word, but quite frequent!)
CREATIVITY (in regards to profanity): ⬤⬤⬤⬤⬤
BOLD ALL THAT APPLY: arse. ass. asshole. bastard. bitch. bloody. bugger. bollocks. chicken shit. crap. cunt. dick. frick. fuck (fucking, fucked, fucky, fuckass, shitfuck... by far his favourite curse word). horseshit (bullshit, dogshit...). motherfucker. piss. prick. screw. shit. shitass. son of a bitch. twat. wanker. pussy (not as an insult! just as a crude word).
IMPORTANT QUESTIONS
DO PEOPLE HAVE A HARD TIME HEARING OR UNDERSTANDING YOUR CHARACTER? - almost always / frequently / rarely / never (delivering a message? not at all, unless the message is incoherent. casual conversation? it happens. are they stressed or excited? oh, wow, expect gaps and interjections and other Sirenity-isms)
DOES YOUR CHARACTER'S INTENDED POINT COME ACROSS EASILY WHEN THEY SPEAK? - almost always / frequently / sometimes / rarely / never. (now, you may be thinking, "secondhand! you literally just went on tangents about how bad Sirenity is at sentences! this answer is contradictory!" and to that, I say, "astute observation! the keywords (in specifically my previous note) are 'casual' and 'stressed'. remember way back at the top of Sirenity's section where their demeanour is 'confident'? that isn't unfounded. in the slightest. they have their shit TOGETHER. they're damn good at what they do and know it. their JOB is COMMUNICATION! it takes a fucking lot to frazzle them. he's really good at talking to people on their level!)
WOULD YOUR CHARACTER INITIATE CONVERSATIONS? - almost always / frequently / sometimes / never. (comes with the job)
WOULD YOUR CHARACTER BE THE ONE TO END CONVERSATIONS? - almost always / frequently / sometimes / rarely / never. (again, his entire job is communication. would only ever end a conversation if the other person was being REALLY mean AND kept circling back on the same topics.)
WOULD YOUR CHARACTER USE 'WHOM' IN A SENTENCE? - yes / no / only ironically
YOUR CHARACTER WANTS TO MAKE A COUNTERPOINT. WHAT WORD DO THEY USE? - but / though + although + however (if they're offering a counterpoint to their own sentence) / perhaps + mayhaps (for the bit).
HOW DOES YOUR CHARACTER END CONVERSATIONS? - walk away / ask if that's everything / say that's everything / give a proper goodbye / tell their company they're done here / remain quiet (this would be because they need to think) / they don't.
WHAT SOCIAL CLASS WOULD OTHERS ASSUME YOUR CHARACTER BELONGS TO, HEARING THEM SPEAK? - upper / middle / lower. (uses really simple sentences in casual conversation, accent, word use)
IN WHAT WAYS DOES THE WAY YOUR CHARACTER SPEAK STAND OUT TO OTHERS? - accent / vocabulary / tone / level / politeness / brusqueness / it doesn't. (depends who they're speaking to! he can be quite rude but shockingly polite. speech 90 barter currently ~85 iirc. can and will talk herself in and out of situations. i think the key takeaway of the way she speaks is how genuine she is. so so so genuine. not incapable of lying but definitely doesn't like it and will often automatically correct an accidental lie.)

Thank you @rebelangelsims !
I'm going to do Fox & Takahiro this time =)
Tumblr media
Fox Abbottsford
Fox is a registered social worker. He's a longtime government employee in the Department of Community Services, and started his career working in the area of child protection. He switched over to working with social assistance benefits recipients for a few years, but his passion is in working with children, so he switched back. He's currently a supervisor in his department.
He's an artist, or as a handful of media outlets have described him, "a talented local artist". He's had a few gallery shows in Willow Creek and Newcrest over the years, and he's illustrated three children's books so far, with a fourth in the works.
He's a type 1 diabetic and has been since the age of six. He fervently hoped he wouldn't pass on that gene to any of his kids, but both Forest and Camellia are also diabetic.
He loves the water. When he and Takahiro were designing their house, one of Fox's requirements was that it had to have a pool so he could go swimming whenever he wanted. He's always found the water calming.
He used to have a pet fox named Ruby. People often remarked on the irony of a guy named Fox having a pet fox, and it became one of the weird things he was known for when he was younger.
Takahiro Suzuki
Taka is originally from Japan. He followed Fox to Canada after their whirlwind romance, and never really looked back. Although he’s travelled to Japan to visit his family many times, he’s never once regretted his choice to immigrate. He loves Fox and he loves his life in Canada. This year, he plans to stop procrastinating and finally apply for Canadian citizenship.
When he first came to Canada, he found a lot of people seemed to struggle to pronounce his name. In light of that, he decided to choose a “Canadian name” for himself. He picked David, but it never stuck, mostly because David Suzuki is the name of someone famous in Canada, and no one could quite keep a straight face when Taka would introduce himself as “David Suzuki”. These days, he’s less worried about people messing up his name and is fine with whatever people can manage.
He’s an early childhood educator and worked for several years in a local preschool. However, his dream was always to own and work in his own daycare center. Twelve years ago, he started Hands Around The World Childcare, and he’s never been happier. He didn’t initially plan it to be an international daycare, but the name seemed to attract a lot of newcomers to Canada, and now it has a reputation as a multicultural and multilingual enrichment place for kids.
Taka is musically talented. He can sing reasonably well but his real gift is playing the piano. He likes to get together with his friend Yuri to play piano & violin duets.
His favourite colour is yellow. When they were doing the interior design for their house, Fox made sure to include lots of yellow elements, just for him.

How A Teenage Girl Became Queen of England For Nine Days
The show My Lady Jane took creative liberties, but Jane’s real-life rise and fall were full of drama. Fourth in line at birth, she was unexpectedly Crowned Queen, only to face a devastating end.

Historic travesty or juicy royal soap? The now canceled series My Lady Jane was both, playing fast and loose with history even as it introduced a new generation to the saga of the doomed Lady Jane Grey, who was England’s queen for just over a week before her execution at age 17.
Who was Lady Jane‚ and why does the story of her disastrous reign still resonate today? Here’s how the teenager became queen and lost the throne in just a few fateful days in 1553.
A Struggle For Succession
When King Henry VIII died in 1547, his son Edward VI succeeded him at just 9 years old. A regency council ruled in his place until he came of age. Jane Grey, Henry’s niece, was the same age as Edward, her cousin, and had been fourth in line to the throne when she was born. When he was crowned king, she became third in line after Henry’s daughters (Edward’s half-sisters) Mary and Elizabeth.
Council members competed to influence Edward, who was seen as sickly and pliable. By the time Edward and Jane were teenagers, John Dudley, Duke of Northumberland, had pushed his way to the top.
As the king’s most trusted advisor, Dudley was arguably the most powerful man in England. He was also destined to become Jane’s father-in-law.
Who Was Jane Grey?
The teenager was exceptionally educated for a young woman of her time. Multilingual and accomplished in both academic and domestic pursuits, she was known as pious, studious, and charismatic. But she had no choice as to her future: Like other daughters of nobility, Jane was expected to submit to an arranged marriage designed to consolidate power and bring prestige to her family.

Accordingly, her parents brokered a match to Guildford Dudley, the Duke of Northumberland’s son, and they married in 1553, when she was 16. Though historic accounts differ, Jane is thought to have opposed the match. One chronicle even states that Jane’s father beat her until she agreed to marry.
In the meantime, the King Edward had become gravely ill. As his death approached, the Duke of Northumberland played on fears that if she took the crown, Mary, a Catholic, would destroy the Church of England and that both Mary and Elizabeth might marry outsiders, diluting the power of the British throne. He convinced Edward to exclude them both from the line of succession, instead pushing the Duke’s new daughter-in-law, Jane, to the front of the line for the throne.
Despite quarrels over the legality of this arrangement, Jane was named Edward’s heir—and when the king died on July 6, 1553, Jane became queen.
Jane Becomes a Reluctant Queen
This was news to the teenaged Jane, who had apparently not been informed of the arrangements beforehand. As the men around her knelt in obeisance, she later recalled, she “[declared] to them my insufficiency” and “greatly bewailed myself.”

Panicked and shocked, she prepared to move to the Tower of London, where new royals traditionally resided before their official coronation. On July 10, she traveled to the tower on a royal barge.
As the Holy Roman Emperor’s ambassador Jehan Scheyfve ominously noted, “No one present showed any sign of rejoicing, and no one cried: ‘Long live the Queen!’”
The new queen seemed deeply uneasy about her accession—she had to be convinced to don the crown. In a move that appeared to reflect her horror at the Duke’s attempt to gain power through her marriage, Jane refused to allow his son Guildford to be crowned king consort without approval from Parliament. This predictably infuriated the Duke.
Lady Jane Becomes a Prisoner
Within days, Mary sent an army to London to depose Jane. Though the Duke initially attempted to raise an army on her behalf, Jane’s royal council soon disbanded, leaving the teenage queen and her remaining supporters virtual prisoners inside the Tower of London. Meanwhile, the Mayor of London declared Mary queen.
Finally, Jane’s father came to the tower and told her to stand down, declaring that she “must put off [her] royal robes.” Jane reportedly replied, “I much more willingly put them off than I put them on.”
Just nine days had passed between Jane’s proclamation as queen at the Tower of London and her abandoning her claim to the crown on July 19, 1553. Though she relinquished it easily, Jane was already marked for death.
Mary triumphantly headed to London to take up the throne, and the Duke of Northumberland fled for his life. He was apprehended and brought back to the tower, where he was imprisoned with Guildford and his other sons. He was beheaded for treason soon after, despite hastily converting to Catholicism in a bid to gain favor with Mary.
Jane wrote Mary from prison, narrating the events leading up to her accession, apologizing for taking the crown and begging for her life. The letter portrays her as a pawn in her ambitious parents’ and in-laws’ game, and she writes that she was “stupefied and troubled” by how she was ushered onto the throne.
Jane Grey's Execution
Jane seemed to have convinced Mary to spare her life, even after she and Guildford were both tried and found guilty of treason. But the new queen’s patience broke when Jane’s father participated in a short-lived rebellion in opposition to Mary’s planned union with a Spanish king. The ascendant Mary sentenced both Jane and Guildford to death.
Jane might have been able to save herself by converting to Catholicism, but she refused. She also refused to see her husband, whom she had apparently come to love, citing the “misery and pain” that would come with a meeting and telling him they would be forever linked in death.

On February 12, 1554, Jane was killed shortly after her husband’s execution. “I am come hither to die,” she reportedly said to the assembled crowd before the axe fell, confessing her guilt, reading a prayer, and begging the executioner to be quick. Then she was beheaded—a casualty of ambition, greed, and a historic struggle for the throne.

What degree are you studying? :D
We’re taking intro classes to decide, but the gist is social science & DTC¹. If we’re right that we like all 3, we may do a general social science degree (allows 2 to 3 majors, but you get to pick upper division classes rather than having to do every single one for every single degree) & a DTC minor (or even go for a major, it depends on how close we are).
More specifically those three are Psychology (how brains generally work & how disorders affect that), Sociology (how large groups of people affect how the brain functions), & Human Development (how personal relationships² & the aging process affect how your brain works). Basically, we wanna know how people work & why they work that way, both to improve our social relationships & to hopefully create a low-cost social space (as in, low-cost to be there & have fun).
DTC helps us understand how tech works, & also is the umbrella where you can take animation/animated film & game design classes, which we’ll probably take. And if we do make games &/or films, we’ll then be able to apply our understanding of social relationships & how brains work to those projects. We’d love to make games/films with more (and more accurate) representation—we know a lot about D.I.D. and dissociation, & we know how our experiences of autism/ADHD affect us, we know how being queer affects our experiences, & we know how being physically disabled affects us, so we can apply those lenses & experiences to characters that feel more accurate, real, & in depth.
We’d like to have opportunities to work with BIPOC/BBIMP and other communities we don’t belong to so we can include their stories & struggles & experiences, but we don’t have the experience ourselves to do those people and stories justice.
But ¡yeah! It ties into our biggest special interest category (understanding how people work, & effective communication), & DTC includes another special interest category (storytelling/art). Using categories because there’s quite a bit underneath those (communication/how people work includes foreign languages (desire to be multilingual) as well as social sciences & anthropology; storytelling includes poetry, creative writing, films, art; etc.), but they generally fit together.
We’re taking sociology and human development 101 classes this semester, & we already took the 101 classes for psychology & DTC the last time we went. We’ll likely know by December (end of semester) whether we’re moving forward with all 4 or picking 2-3 🤷‍♂️.
(¹ Digital Technology & Culture - it’s a techy major, but it’s cross majored (don’t know the specific term for it) & requires 3 upper-division classes from a different field/major; social sciences would fulfill that requirement)
(² personal relationships as in Parent-Child Relationships & Family Roles (specific classes I saw), friendships, & other close personal relationships)

ooooh, sounds like a fun day! I'll leave you to it......but off the top of your head:

I'll give you one too, promise 😉

Tumblr media
I'M DYING AT THIS 💀💀💀
Okay, okay, okay. So my movie taste is a little bit everywhere - so I'm not sure what you like. Let me give you a couple with a brief summary to give you a sense of what I like.
Tumblr media
Suck: 2009 (M)
A struggling troup of musicians travel around Canada and USA. It's only when the bassist of the group is turned into a vampire that they finally meet success. Now they have to deal with the consequences of a rise in fame: hunters, groupies, and an insatiable hunger that they need to satisfy to keep up their success. Dark comedy, gore, cameos from musicians, musical.
I don't know why I like this movie, but I do. I think it's the vampires, the miniature models, the muso references, the makeup, and the gore. Could also be Alice Cooper and Iggy Pop.
Calamity Jane: 1955 (PG)
A firecracker gunslinger with a boisterous attitude seeks out actress Adelaide Adams to bring back to her town of Deadwood to win a bet. She finds a friend in the actress, and finds love along the way. Musical, wild west, angst, comedy, romance.
This was my bisexual awakening. This movie has a special place in my heart. I love Doris Day and Allyn Ann McLerie. Howard Keel's voice is also just 🫠. Costumes 👌👌👌. A man in drag singing 🤌.
Overboard: 1987 (PG)
A spoilt heiress decides to snub a single father, widower carpenter she hired after being "dissatisfied" with his services. She cheats him out of his wage, and he is left to fend for himself with little funds to back him up. When that heiress falls overboard and is diagnosed with amnesia, the carpenter decides to get her back and claim to be her husband: working her to the bone as his "wife" to have her earn back the wage she'd lost him. Comedy, romance, Goldie Hawn, Kurt Russell.
THIS IS MY ULTIMATE COMFORT MOVIE. I will watch this movie on repeat. The chemistry between Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell is absolutely gorgeous - and it's before they ended up getting married in real life. I just AAAAAAAAAAA at this movie. It has all of my favourite tropes, and I love it. Amnesia, enemies to lovers, payback, revenge, and it also is so validating for the often unseen role of being the "at home" parent.
Van Helsing: 2004 (M)
The legendary monster hunter travels to Transylvania to aid in the hunt of the vampire responsible for destroying the town. When the princess of an ancient Romani family becomes the vampire's target, he stops at nothing to end her torment. Hugh Jackman, Kate Beckinsale, David Wenham, Richard Roxburgh. Horror themes, action, romance, monsters.
This movie copped a lot of hate when it was released, but it's another one of my comfort films. It's got the Aussie Hugh in it, and a vampire masquerade dance scene that I just AAAAAAAAAA each time. I love it. It's romance, and I am a sucker for monsters.
Kill Bill: 1 & 2 (R+)
A woman betrayed seeks out her revenge on those who attempted to kill her on her wedding day. Blood, gore, angst, dark, violence, a beautiful soundtrack, multilingual, Uma Thurman, Lucy Liu, fighting.
Another comfort movie. I love this entire plot so much. Tarantino has a few good ones, but this one, Dusk Till Dawn and Planet Terror are my favourites. I love the switch up to Japanese in there.
I am very much enjoying Day 1 of my holiday. Dreamworld is the destination today. Last time I was here was during the night festivals and I may have gotten a little wild and did 'the nutbush' (Australian dance to Tina Turner) with a bunch of children. Reminded me of the good ol' days of being an entertainer 💀. I should do a rollercoaster or a slide POV for you when I'm there 🖤.
Hoping the movies off the top of my head/heart serve you well, my beautiful ♡♡ Anon. I need some more of your gorgeous recs for when I get back home again in 2 weeks.

Mirjami Fact 5: While Mirjami isn't book smart she's actually multilingual.
As a kid following her parents' death I imagine Mirjami struggled a lot with communication. When she was adopted she was adopted by parents who traveled and studied languages and learnt from them.
I can see her understanding a lot of languages and speaking a few which surprises people because she seems very ignorant.
The languages sort of fell into her as well; Her real parents spoke Hebrew. Her adoptive parents spoke a lot of languages but mostly Greek and Arabic. Her Ex-Husband spoke Arabic and Hindi. And she learnt Spanish from her job. Couple that with her studying them with her adoptive parents and it just happened.
Languages she understands: English, Hebrew, Arabic, Hindi, Greek, Spanish
Languages she speaks: English, Arabic, Hindi, Greek
Honestly due to it she has an accent and I can kind of see Minhyeok learning a language with her since it's bonding time!! :>

Newsies Limited Series Idea (rewritten)
This was a concept from one of my year-old posts. I re-wrote a new outline for fun.
Title: Newsies
Logline: Set in 1899 New York, Newsies is a period drama that explores the social and political landscape of the era through the eyes of a group of newsboys struggling to make ends meet.
Overview: Based on the 1992 film and real-life events, Newsies is a fresh take on the beloved story that delves deeper into the lives and struggles of the newsboys. While the series will maintain the charm of the original, it will take a more serious tone, delving into the societal norms, identity, and friendship that are challenged during this time in history.
Themes: The series will explore themes of social justice, friendship, and identity as the newsboys come to terms with their place in a rapidly changing world.
Characters: Newsies features a diverse cast of characters, each with their unique story and struggles. Viewers will be taken on a journey through the eyes of the newsies as they navigate through the turbulent era.
Real-life and fantasy elements: The series will seamlessly blend real-life and fantasy elements by incorporating historical figures such as Teddy Roosevelt, Hearst & Pulitzer, Big Tim Sullivan, and some of the original newsies to create an engaging and unique viewing experience.
Musical elements: Although not a musical, Newsies will incorporate lyrics from the original songs into the dialogue, paying homage to the beloved music that made the original film a hit.
Distribution: The series will be available on Netflix or other streaming services, providing a broad audience with the opportunity to enjoy this exciting new adaptation.
Newsies is a period drama that explores the themes of social justice, identity, and friendship through the eyes of a group of young newsboys. With a diverse cast of characters and blend of real-life and fantasy, the series is a unique viewing experience that pays homage to the beloved original.
EPISODE 1: The Maine
The episode begins with a fade into July present-day. We see the city of New York below with its skyscrapers projecting brazenly into the sky, high above the street-level bedlam. We see the blur of vehicles in the city streets. The camera comes even lower, and we see rapidly moving traffic. The streets of lower Manhattan are saturated with cars. We see pedestrians darting in between the cars and hear the blare of a hip-hop recording that matches the frantic pace of the traffic. The camera zooms in even further, focuses on a young man eating lunch on the white steps of a building. He is scrolling a New York Times article on his cellphone as the camera begins to zoom out. We see the city as a rich mosaic of colors, which turns into an urban grey blur. The blur lasts for a few seconds.
Exterior, New York City, May 1968. Groovy guitar music. This time the buildings are not as stark, the traffic in the streets not quite so frantic. The cars are older. The camera focuses on a young man, eating lunch on a park bench. The newspaper he is reading has a headline about the assassination of Martin Luther King. We see the date. A hippie couple is sitting down not far from the young man reading the paper. The man puts his hand on her knee, and she places her hand lovingly atop his. We see them lean in closer as the camera starts to zoom out. She pulls away at the last moment as the shot becomes more distant and blurs.
Exterior, New York City, July 1920. Jazz music. The streets of lower Manhattan are still clogged, but this time, with old automobiles, men in straw boater hats chatting amiably in one corner. On another corner, two schoolboys—one Puerto Rican and one Italian—fight as other boys cheer them on. The camera focuses on a young man reading an illustrated paper as he leans against a lamppost. The camera pans away from the young man and onto a crowded street in which we see pop-up stands and multilingual vendors. Here we see a young Chinese girl feeding bread to pigeons. She tries to frighten away a larger pigeon. It refuses to move, and she waves her arms, sending the small flock of birds into the air as the camera zooms out again to a blurred view of the area.
Exterior, New York City, 1898. Then the sound of fiddling folk music rises as the camera slowly moves in once again. The streets of lower Manhattan are indistinct but sharpen gradually. We hear the clicking of typewriter keys and presses rolling. Words appear on the screen with articles from Spanish-American War. Newsboys are running around, shouting headlines and selling papers at a rapid pace. The camera then focuses on a young boy, Jack, as he jostles his way through the crowd, calling out for customers. War with Spain is splashed across the headlines. The sinking of the Maine.
As he makes his rounds, we see snippets of other newsies - a group of brothers goofing around, an older boy giving a paper to a passerby with a sly smile, and a young girl standing timidly in the corner trying to sell her papers.
As Jack continues to sell, we hear snippets of conversations about the war, with people eagerly devouring the news of battles and victories. The price of papers has gone up, but nobody seems to mind. Business is booming for the newspaper tycoons, especially William Randolph Hearst and Joseph Pulitzer.
We then get a glimpse of Hearst's flamboyant and cynical personality, as he cracks jokes with his reporters and revels in his wealth and power. Pulitzer, on the other hand, seems more reserved and conflicted, torn between his duty to report the news and his desire to sell papers.
Meanwhile, we are introduced to the Jacobs family, a close-knit group who are doing better than most during the war. Mr. Jacobs is a hard-working man who is proud of his family, including his son David, who is top of his class, and his daughter Sarah, who loves playing the piano. Mrs. Jacobs, however, is a bit more skeptical, especially when her son Les brings home a stray kitten.
We also meet Brian Denton, a young reporter for the New York Sun who is eager to make a name for himself. He is tired of covering society columns and longs to write about something more meaningful, like the war. He meets with his childhood friend, Nellie Bly, who gives him some advice on finding good stories.
But Denton's boss warns him not to go too far in his quest for a scoop. They must stay competitive with other papers but not resort to sensationalism.
As the day progresses, we see more of the newsies' hardships, including Jack standing up for his friends and the younger kids. But things take a turn when Jack has a chance encounter with Snyder, an aggressive warden who seems to have it out for him.
Jack manages to escape but bumps into David on his way out. David is heading to a lecture hall, and Jack convinces him to pretend he's a student so he can hide from Snyder.
Meanwhile, the Delancey brothers, two mischievous newsboys, get jobs at their uncle's distribution center, while Mr. Jacobs gets injured on the job and is fired. The family is now in financial trouble, and they must sell their beloved piano to make ends meet.
As the episode ends, we see Jack and his newsie friends rallying to help the Jacobs family in their time of need. It's a testament to the bond that has formed between them and the sense of community that has grown among the newsies.
Overall, the episode highlights the excitement and chaos of a time when newspapers were the primary source of information for the masses. It also highlights the struggles and hardships of those who relied on selling papers to make a living.
EPISODE 2: The Strike
The episode opens with a glimpse of the New York City skyline, which looks different from today's. Then, the camera focuses on two young boys, David and Les, walking down a busy street. They look determined yet apprehensive.
The episode continues with David and Les arriving on the scene as they desperately search for jobs to support their family. Jack recognizes David from their previous encounter and takes them under his wing to teach them the tricks of the trade. Through Jack's narration, we are introduced to the different newsies, their selling spots, and their personalities.
The newsies are struggling to make ends meet as prices have not been lowered since the war, and several have been forced to vacate their lodging house due to the inability to pay rent. Kloppman mentions the death of one of their friends due to starvation, which scares many of the newsies into taking action.
David suggests the idea of a union, which Jack considers as he recalls the trolley strike. However, the newsies are divided on the issue, with some unwilling to risk their livelihoods. Some of them quit and take up other trades, leaving only a small group of strikers.
Jack takes charge of the strike with David as his second-in-command. They attempt to negotiate with Pulitzer, but he throws them out immediately. The Delancey brothers taunt Jack, but he fights them off and earns the respect of the other newsies.
The episode introduces the mysterious and intimidating Spot Conlon, who is rumored to be a powerful newsie in Brooklyn. We see flash cuts of him beating up rival newsies, but we never see his face.
As the strike continues to escalate, the newsies become more organized, with Jack and David leading the charge. They eventually catch the attention of the media, which brings more attention to their cause. The episode ends with a cliffhanger as we see Pulitzer's reaction to the strike and the potential consequences for the newsies.
The episode is filled with gritty action, tense negotiations, and the struggle for justice in a time of great economic inequality. It captures the spirit of the newsie strike and the passion of the young boys fighting for their rights.
EPISODE 3: The Sacrifice
The episode opens with a montage of the newsboy strike in Manhattan, with newsies knocking over delivery wagons and getting into small fights with local distribution center workers. The strike has grown in numbers, but there are still a few newsies who are unable to contend with the lack of work and money and have given up.
The camera follows Crutchy Morris as he limps through the streets of Manhattan, his newsboy cap pulled low over his forehead. He stops in front of a delivery wagon, his friends gathered around him, and suddenly a scuffle breaks out. The sound of fists hitting flesh echoes through the alley as Crutchy's friends fight to protect the strike. Despite his hesitation, Crutchy joins in, throwing punches with his good leg. But the fight is quickly interrupted by the arrival of the Delancey brothers, Spot Conlon's enforcers. The Delanceys are ruthless and take pleasure in causing pain, and they have no qualms about targeting even the most vulnerable strikers. As the Delanceys advance, Crutchy throws himself in front of a younger striker to protect him. The Delanceys make quick work of Crutchy, landing blow after blow until he lies motionless on the ground. The camera shows the violence in graphic detail, with the sounds of bones breaking and blood splattering against the pavement. The Delanceys, satisfied with their work, leave the scene, leaving Crutchy and the other injured strikers behind. The police arrive to break up the fight, arresting some of the strikers and taking Crutchy and the others to the Refuge. The Refuge is a brutal place, with guards who take pleasure in causing pain to the children who are sent there. Crutchy, with his injured leg and broken bones, is particularly vulnerable. As the episode ends, the camera shows the other strikers gathered outside the Refuge, planning their next move. The strike has turned violent, with blood on the streets and friends being taken to jail or the Refuge. But despite the danger, they know that they cannot give up, not while the future of all newsboys is at stake.

EPISODE 5: The Dream
Opening Shot: A close-up of an old, leather-bound journal with the words "Jack's Memoir" embossed in gilding, a gift from Medda a year ago. The camera pulls back to reveal a young newsie, Jack, sitting on a bench, scribbling away in his journal.
Jack's voiceover: “Dear Ma and Pa, it’s been some weeks since you left me in the city. I pray this letter finds you hale and hearty. As for myself, I'm waist-deep in the strike, fighting for what's right. But it’s not as plain as I reckoned it'd be.”
Cut to: Jack and his fellow newsies picketing outside the newspaper distribution center, chanting and holding up signs. They are met by a group of burly men, hired to break the strike.
Jack's voiceover: "Well, we've had a few run-ins with the strikebreakers, but nothing that would ruffle a feather. It's the bulls that keep me up at night. They're getting as mean as snakes in a sack.”
Cut to: Jack and the newsies in an intense argument with a group of distribution employees.
Jack's voiceover: "It's a curious case we're in, my friends. Some of them fellows who handle the distribution shares our sentiments, but others are in a tight spot and simply trying to keep their livelihood. It's a conundrum, and I'm uncertain of the right course of action to take."
Cut to: Flashback of Jack violently attacking a newsie about his age who was selling papers.
Jack's voiceover: "Friends, I must confess to a regrettable incident. My temper got the better of me, and I wronged a lad who bore no ill will. It pains me to consider his sister, who depended on him to earn a living. I'm beginning to recognize the dual nature of this conflict; not every soul can afford to cease work.”
Cut to: Denton, a wealthy businessman, watching the strike from afar, a scheming look on his face.
Cut to: Jack and the newsies preparing for a major fight with the grown strikebreakers and cops.

Closing Shot: Jack closing his journal and looking up, a determined look on his face.
Jack's voiceover: “ I ain't the one to prophesy the future, but I reckon I gotta keep on fightin' for what's right. Perhaps I'll head west, but not 'til we've settled this strike. I owe it to my fellow newsies. By the way, have you seen how them stars glitter over the canyon at night?" "
The screen fades to black.
EPISODE 6: The Ambassadors
Opening Shot: A wide shot of a scorching hot New York City street. We see newsies in ragged clothes walking around with signs and water cups. One of them, Mush, is sweating profusely.
Mush's voiceover: "This is the burnin'est week ever seen and here we are protestin' in the streets. It's a tough goin', but we knows we gotta keep pushin' for what's fair and square."
Cut to: Kid Blink and Mush cracking jokes and trying to keep their fellow newsies' morale up.
Kid Blink's voiceover: "Me an' Mush, we're doin' our damndest to keep everyone's chins up, but it's gettin' tougher by the minute. We're in dire need o' funds, an' some o' our own boys are jumpin' ship an' workin' for the enemy. It's enough to make a fella's heart break.”
Cut to: Flashback of a newsie crossing the picket line, and the others shouting at him in anger.
Mush's voiceover: "It's a sight to break a newsie's heart, to see our own kind turning against us. But we won't give in, no sir. We've got backing from other boroughs, and we'll hold fast and see it through."

Cut to: Medda holding a rally at Irving Hall in support of the strike, preparing for the event.
As Medda reminds her employees, “Well, darlings, I think it's high time we showed our support for the newsies by holding a rally! We can't just sit back and do nothing when there are injustices to be fought. I understand some of you might be worried about your careers being tarnished by Hearst's or Pulitzer's papers. But let me tell you this, my dears, if we let the fear of bad press silence us, we'll never make any progress. We must be brave and stand up for what's right, no matter the consequences.”
Closing Shot: A close-up of Kid Blink and Mush's determined faces as they continue their work, trying to keep the strike alive.
Kid Blink's voiceover: "We ain't givin' up, boys. It's our duty to fight for what's fair, no matter the cost. We’ll stick together like glue.”
The screen fades to black.
EPISODE 7: The Cavalry
The episode begins with a colorful, symmetrical shot of the newsies preparing for battle, their slingshots at the ready. The scene is contrasted with the dark, shadowy figure of Hearst, who is seen orchestrating the ambush from afar.
As the fight breaks out, the camera follows the chaos and violence in a series of quick, snappy shots. The newsies are clearly outmatched, but they fight on with all their might. Meanwhile, Racetrack narrates with his characteristic wit and humor, providing commentary on the battle and the various characters involved.
As the Brooklyn newsies arrive, the tone shifts to a triumphant one. The camera lingers on their colorful attire and unique personalities, capturing the spirit of the newsies' unity in the face of adversity. Spot Conlon, a striking figure in red suspenders, takes charge and helps turn the tide of the battle.
The scene then shifts to a quieter moment, as Jack, badly injured and beaten, is relieved by Spot. The two have a tense moment of conversation, with Spot offering a mix of tough love and support to Jack. The camera focuses on their faces, framed by the chaos of the battle behind them.
In the aftermath of the fight, the newsies regroup and the strike committee is formed, with Spot and Racetrack both taking on important roles. The camera captures the formation of the committee in a series of symmetrical shots, with the newsies arranged in a neat, orderly formation.
As the episode draws to a close, the camera lingers on the injured newsies, as they receive medical attention and the others tend to their wounds. The scene is shot in soft, warm light, emphasizing the compassion and camaraderie of the newsies. The episode ends with a hopeful note, as the newsies continue to fight for their rights and their dignity in the face of oppression.
EPISODE 8: The Rally
The rally episode of the newsies strike would be filled with quirky and whimsical details. The newsies, dressed in their mismatched outfits, gather in a park filled with bright colors and unusual decorations, like a giant topiary of a newspaper or a fountain spouting ink instead of water.
During the rally, Mr. Jacobs gives a stirring speech while standing atop a platform made of old newspapers, while the newsies use a megaphone made from a discarded gramophone horn. As the rally reaches a fever pitch, the police arrive, clad in stiff, uniform outfits that contrast sharply with the newsies' eclectic fashion.
The ensuing battle between the newsies and the police is filmed in slow-motion, with quirky, over-the-top action sequences that emphasize the physical comedy of the fight. Meanwhile, Medda's theater is transformed into a makeshift hospital, with colorful bunting and streamers hanging from the walls and the newsies' injuries patched up with bright, mismatched bandages.
As the newsies recover, Skittery narrates the events with his usual dry wit and sarcastic tone, giving a running commentary on his fellow newsies' quirks and foibles. The rescue attempts for Jack are shot like a heist movie, with inventive gadgets and daring stunts that wouldn't look out of place in a spy film.
By the end of the episode, the newsies emerge victorious, with the public opinion swayed in their favor and Jack safely returned to their ranks. Racetrack, with his fast-talking and charismatic personality, is promoted to the spokesman of the strike committee, and the newsies celebrate their victory in a colorful, eccentric party filled with dancing, singing, and more newspaper-themed decorations.
EPISODE 9: The Nightmare
The episode opens with David staring at the kitten, worried about its well-being. He turns to Les and promises to find a way to keep the cat fed. Meanwhile, the newsies are determined to intensify their strike and make a stronger statement to the city. They gather on the Brooklyn Bridge, chanting and holding signs, effectively bringing traffic to a standstill.
As the day wears on, David becomes increasingly tempted by the idea of scabbing to earn money for his family. However, he is conflicted because he doesn't want to betray his friends and their cause. The internal struggle is portrayed through a series of quirky, visually striking sequences.
Meanwhile, in the Refuge, Crutchy and the other imprisoned newsies are organizing and planning their next move. They work together to write down their stories and the conditions they are living in, hoping to bring attention to their cause. Crutchy manages to slip the notes and letters to Denton during a visit, under the guise of an interview with Snyder.
Denton takes the notes to his friend Nellie Bly, who is an investigative journalist. Together, they publish an article that exposes the harsh living conditions and abuses that the newsies face in the Refuge. The article creates a public uproar, and the pressure forces the city to release the imprisoned newsies, including Crutchy and his friends.
The episode ends with David ultimately deciding to stand with his fellow newsies and their cause, even if it means sacrificing his family's comfort. The newsies celebrate the victory of their comrades' release, and the kitten is finally fed, much to Les' relief. The episode's final scene is a signature tableaux shot of the newsies standing triumphantly, with the Brooklyn Bridge in the background, as they continue their fight for justice.
EPISODE 10: The Legacy
The final episode of the period drama "The Newsies' Strike" opens with a montage of newspaper headlines reporting on the continuing strike by the newsboys against Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst. Despite facing police brutality and violence from scabs, the newsies refuse to back down and continue to picket and sell newspapers in their own way.
As the strike drags on, the circulation of both newspapers hits a record low, and the financial pressure on the publishers mounts. In a last-ditch effort to end the strike, Hearst and Pulitzer agree to a meeting with the newsies' leaders.
The meeting is held in a grand hotel room, filled with ornate furnishings and intricate wallpaper, all rendered in signature style. The newsies are dressed in their best clothes, but still look slightly out of place in the opulent surroundings.
After some tense negotiations, a compromise is reached: the publishers agree to buy back any unsold papers from the newsies from now on, and an official newsboy union is formed to represent the newsies' interests. The newsies are ecstatic, and the meeting ends with handshakes and smiles all around.
In the following scenes, we see the aftermath of the strike. Some of the newsies move on to other professions, such as delivery drivers and factory workers. Others continue to sell papers until they outgrow it and move on to bigger things.
The final moments of the episode show where each featured newsie ended up in life, both real and fictional. We see Jack, the charismatic leader of the strike, as a successful & philanthropic businessman in his later years. Davey, the intelligent and analytical newsie, becomes a lawyer and fights for workers' rights. Crutchy, the newsie with a limp, opens his own shoe repair business. And Spot Conlon, the tough Brooklyn newsie, becomes a detective.
As the camera pans out to present-day New York city, we see the old lodging house where Jack and so many of the others lived still stands today, preserved as a historic landmark. The Jacobs' flat, where Jack found a second family, is now part of the tenement museum.
Neither Hearst's nor Pulitzer's newspaper survived to the present day. But the legacy of the newsies' strike lives on, as a symbol of the power of collective action and the fight for justice.
Finally, the screen goes to black, and the sound of the newsies' fading victory chants echoes through the appearance of the credits. The end.
