Life-Sized Mortuary Doll from Siberia, c.250 CE: a small pouch filled with cremated human remains was tucked into the body of this mannequin, which was then stuffed with grass, dressed in furs, and buried

The mannequin measures about 1.5 meters (nearly 5 feet) tall, and it was crafted out of leather, fur, woollen fabric, tendon thread, silk, and grass. This is one of several mortuary dolls that have been found at the burial complex known as Oglakhty cemetery, which is located in the Oglakhty mountains of southern Siberia.

The mannequin's face was created from a patch of red woollen fabric; a rolled-up piece of leather was tucked beneath that patch in order to create the shape of the nose, while leather flaps were used to form the ears. Several black lines were also drawn across the face using charcoal.

The mannequin was positioned with its head resting atop a leather cushion filled with grass and reindeer fur.

Oglakhty cemetery is associated with the Tashtyk culture of southern Siberia. This article describes their unique burial practices, which often included a mix of mummification and cremation rituals:

The communities belonging to this group left numerous burial sites with an expressive funeral rite famous for its tradition of funeral masks and ‘dummies’: leather-made models of human bodies up to 1.5m in length, stuffed with grass, and  containing charred human bones.

Of special interest is the fact that different rites were used to bury individuals in the same grave: the mummies and dummies both contained human bones. Remains of the mummies, i.e. dry bodies with trepanned skulls and faces covered with gypsum masks were lying side by side with the dummies.

These mannequins or so-called ‘dolls’ are the only surviving examples of burials of this type.

It's believed that the mannequins are dressed in clothing that was originally worn by the dead people they represent. Some of the mannequins also have plaits of human hair that were likely taken from the dead just prior to cremation; the hair was then used to form neatly-braided hairpieces that were typically placed upon the mannequins' heads.

Many of the graves at Oglakhty cemetery exhibit a peculiar mix of both inhumation and cremation. That blend of rituals is often attributed to the arrival of peoples/traditions from other regions, and the cultural diffusion that gradually occurred as a result:

Different ways of burying people in the same graves in the early Tashtyk cemeteries may reflect their different origins: descendants of local population and immigrants living and buried alongside each other.

Confession time my dream I want to achieve once I have a solid job this summer and not just odd jobs like babysitting. With her novice powers of reanimation, Angeline is known to bring taxidermy animals to life to do her bidding (and give her unconditional love/companionship)

She is morbidly curious and delights in the macabre, collecting oddities, vinyl records and fashion dolls. Performance arts and film are also within her realm of interest. She is very determined, sharp witted and easily distractible. Always styling her own outfits and always committed to the bit, Angeline is a passionate seamstress and taxidermist with a degree in funeral services and mortuary science.

She currently works as a freelance villainess alongside her ride or die partner in crime, Jesse Rayburn.

But what enchants him the most are your jokes, even if they aren't good, they make him laugh until his stomach hurts and he cries.

.⁠｡⁠*⁠♡ As a Shinigami he knows how immoral it is to harvest a soul before its time, but if you want to kill some people to feed on them, Undertaker wouldn't stop you. Instead, he would cover your tracks so that no one would know who the killer was. Or, if you don't hunt people but animals, he would help you, even though he didn't have that much experience with traps.

.⁠｡⁠*⁠♡ He buys the best dresses to accentuate your beauty. Then he praises you, he would praise you even if you were covered from head to toe with blood. He might even get down on one knee to propose.

.⁠｡⁠*⁠♡ Absolutely melts when you kiss his scar, he might or might not tell you the story about how he got it.

.⁠｡⁠*⁠♡ He makes you skull bracelets and necklaces, so you know that he is never a part. And it's imbued with his own shinigami magic so he knows where you are. Is never a coincidence when he met you at alleyways or crowded places, he wasn't just passing by, he know you never would do something to spoil your relationship with him but he is a clingy Shinigami that likes to drap himself on top of you like a cat and to fill your face with kisses.

.⁠｡⁠*⁠♡ On the surface level he is sweet and caring, and he truly is, he loves spoiling you and acting silly to make you laugh - your laugh makes him giggle so this turn into a vicious cycle. But he is just as possessive as much as he gentle with you. He'll do anything you asked, anything you wanted, but only if he can get you whole, only if you depend on him and think only of him. Even if you don't, Undertaker has his ways to do things.

.⁠｡⁠*⁠♡ After a while, when you two get serious, he is much more open about his past with you. He even let's you hold his scythe and absolutely love the look on your face, it's so precious how you spin it around and carefully analyze the skull at the top. You ask him tons of questions on it and about shinigamis. If you're lucky he might even tell you his true name.

.⁠｡⁠*⁠♡ To prevent anyone from speaking ill of you, Undertaker has you working on the mortuary as his assistant. Though he hates when that butler's stare lingers on you a little longer. You're his beloved, you're beautiful but people shouldn't look at you like this, even worse, that demon shouldn't even be near you. Undertakes gets impossibly jealous when he and the little brat are gone. And of course you have to be the one to placate his burning heart, to ease his worries or else you have to deal with a cranky god of death.

.⁠｡⁠*⁠♡ You sometimes help him make his bizarre dolls and he loves it so much, guiding you to every step and explaining why he is creating them and for what purpose. It's a little strange but when you two are bonding over anything, it's bounded to be this way. Death surrounds you two daily and now it seems like a good ol' friend, welcoming.

New headcanon unlocked; The rooms that the prep teams use in the remake center are reminiscent of a coroner's office or a mortuary.

I'd imagine metal tables and floors with a drain. Not necessarily for blood, but for when the tributes are washed. In the film, the tributes are lined up with curtains like one might see in photos of old, overflowed hospitals, along with being dressed in hospital gowns too, but I feel like that fits the vibe of the book less.

The symbolism here would be that even before they are buried, they are dolled up for their death and burials.

The wallpaper, floor, and open sign are free printables from the incomparable myfroggystuff, who makes tons of helpful tutorials on miniatures on YouTube.

This is a collapsible version of the front room made of an old cardboard box as I don't have a ton of storage space, the window is made from an old CD case, and the glass on the door is old packaging material! The rug is braided from yarn and fabric scraps.

The table is an old toothpaste box with some fabric, and pamphlets made of fabric scraps, on the right side is a hole drawn on the skirting board for Madeline. I couldn't get it in the picture but on the left wall is the door to the mortuary.

It's very sparse so far, I'm excited to add more details! Maybe even some more rooms, eventually, this is such a a fun project to work on.

I have actually never seen that. My necrophile awakening was Aesop Carl from IDV actually, and the main reason I decided to go to mortuary school. I never finished, but we did come out of it with an introject of the guy and a fetish for corpses. Win I think?

When sinking into mortuary energy the first feeling is definitely cold, sometimes like a peaceful mist that has been blown into your lungs, other times it is a violent blizzard, after all death isn't always a soothing rest but there is always something certain, it isn't a normal cold, it is not the one that impels you to run to somewhere warm, because it is not reversible, you can play along with it all you want, you can barely sink your feet in it but you have to know that it is somehow letting you escape from it because in reality you have no way out.

Mortuary energy is cold creeping inside your bone marrow, making it remember that is alive by the moment but that death is calling for your bones, it remembers them that they are the same as the ones that are buried in the ground. It makes your eyes glossy and lost, they become doll like and your skin feels like rag, your limbs for a moment are frozen, like the dirt you'll be buried in.

It reminds you that death is not only inside corpses that seem to always have been dead, it is also in your blood, always calling for you and the ones that are surrounding you.

When you sink down in its waters it feels like, by every passing second, it steals from you a little bit more of your heartbeat's strength, a little bit more of life. You are not sure you will be able to get out of it this time nor if you want to.

While I'm certain it isn't a healthy activity, it is actually a fun one.
