I have a friend who is afraid of cooking with stoves or ovens (he can, but he avoids it when possible) because when he was young he tried to cook something for his parents and accidentally spilled a pot of boiling water on himself.

Anyway, thinking about that in light of Martin having to help care for his mother since he was fairly young, and his remark in episode 22 about eating a lot of ready meals, and wondering if the reason he goes on so much in this episode about burns being his “least favorite pain ever” might be because he had a similar experience with burning himself trying to help out as a child.
