askeladd and thorfinn have this kind of dynamic where one day askeladd decides that thorfinn is ready to make certain experiences and when they stop in some port he puts an arm around thorfinn's shoulder and goes "ahh thorfinn look around, this town has the prettiest girls in the whole country" and then hands him some money like "go buy yourself something nice" *wink* and as thorfinn scurries off askeladd pats himself on the back for a parenting job well done. when thorfinn returns HOURS LATER askeladd smirks at him; "so you found something sharp?" and next thing he knows thorfinn LAUNCHES a new dagger at him which just misses his head by a mere inch or so and hits the mast. askeladd watches the after vibrations of the throw in horror and thorfinn smirks back; "you tell me old fuck."

My fiancee and I were discussing the worst metal to use to make armor, and the obvious answers are lead and gold, but she cunningly suggested mercury. Which is a fair point, but then I wondered if solid mercury is any good. Googling told me that the melting point of mercury is -38° c (-37° f), so first you get it really fucking cold. At that point, it turns out that mercury has a tensile strength of 1900 mpa, compared to lead’s 18 and steel’s ~500-940 (depending upon the kind of steel).

Now, I know that tensile strength is not necessarily the best measure of a material’s ability to function as armor, but I’m a liberal arts major and didn’t care to actually do that much more research before going straight to, “EVIL ICE DEMONS IN MERCURY ARMOR. THE PCS CAN’T LOOT IT BECAUSE WHEN THEY PUT IT ON IT MELTS AND KILLS THEM.”

crowley used the metal tool in season 1 to start time, and we learn that he's used it first to start space. to create the stars -- he still remembers how. he still remembers all of heaven's passwords: in the book crowley is described as an optimist because he has the "utter surety... that the universe would look after him". not god, but the universe. and of course he does: he helped create it and he's looking after it, too.

think about it: aziraphale had a sword, but crowley is about to face satan who wants to destroy the world, and crowley's only weapon is a tool of creation

the contrast in lucanis' early game responses to bellara and davrin are sooo funny and also quietly devastating. the vibe is like

Well, I was pondering this and then I saw your tag, and yes, of course, it MUST be Fingolfin.

Because :

a. he is heroic, and he did indeed wield his sword with valor ;

b. having that inscription etched on his sword would be SUCH A DIG at Fëanor ! Who, you know, very famously and publicly took out a sword to without reason (from Fingolfin's point) threaten his brother, and made a fool of himself in the process.

Imagine if he had the inscription etched after Fëanor abandoned him by taking the ships, on a sword that Fëanor himself made for him...
