☆ @sixth-destroyer ☆ — (more out of context sentence starters) “Don’t tell dad I just did that.”
"...buy my silence."
Did she care he was a God of Destruction? Nope. Besides, Champa wasn't HER universe's God of Destruction after all. He tried anything here and he'd have to deal with Beerus, Whis, and her father as well — so, she had little fear in that regard.
Plus, she was still not the biggest fan of him after their last little interaction and she could be petty. Didn't want her father to know? Than he better pay up or she would tell him.

I am on mobile, so my tags are very minimal.
Do not reblog threads you are not apart of. This also applies to my headcanons, but I'm confident that the only people who reblog those are ppl who find it and don't realize this is an RP blog.
I'm lenient about this, but do not reblog art or memes from here, as it clogs up my feed.
Don't poop on the floor
I am oc friendly. However, if you don't have a rules or about for your blog, I'm probably not going to interact.
You never know what you're going to get with me. You may get a multipara starter/reply, you may get a few sentences. I don't expect you to match my length, especially if I've written a behemoth of a starter... but I do ask that you try to match my effort. If I'm writing a huge reply and you respond with something that doesn't match the setting or context, (and do this consistently,) I'm more than likely doing to drop threads, and if this keeps happening, I'll just soft block you. Yes I do this for fun, but I put abouts and rules and everything you need to know for a reason, and if you can't be bothered to put in the effort to read it, or properly read my responses, then don't even bother. This sounds mean, but this is incredibly frustrating and a bit insulting and that's not what I want for a hobby.
Don't always try to fix a conflict immediately? Especially if this is a common theme of the blog. Bonnie is broken and he is not being repaired. The techs who say that pieces have been ordered and are en route are lying to him. Do not take this away, or the thread will be dropped. There is a huge difference between talking to those techs and confronting them about it and saying "Oh your parts came in five-ever ago lets go get you fixed!" Comfort him, reassure him, validate him, find temporary solutions for him: but don't fix him. I like tension sometimes, so don't take away a threat or conflict within the first three replies if you can help it! There is a story here that I am trying to tell, but if you take away the main conflict, it doesn't work.
Due to a lack of interest across my FNaF blogs, asks and threads are now put into my queue and will take a few days to get to it. Every morning I put ten posts into my queue, except on Fridays, where I do thirty. If you reply to me on Saturday, it may not post a response until Monday or Wednesday, depending on on which blog it's on. I'm no longer giving threads a priority in my queue, they just get put in.
I am a mobile user. My brother did give me his laptop, but at the end of my work day, I'm usually out of spoons to write unless a thread has me in a choke hold. Maybe once in a while, I'll pop onto my laptop to fine-tune posts like this, but it's hard, if not impossible for me to use the site to its full extent on the normal. As such, icons will not be used and trimming posts will not be done the way I like.
Trimming posts are a strange area. I have adhd and autism, so the best way for a thread to be trimmed is with the last response still attached. This way I can remember what's going on in the thread, which will lead to an overall better rp experience. If posts don't get trimmed, I'll just have to make the reply and hit that big red X button that deletes everything before my response, so take that as a warning.
RESPECT MY FUCKING BOUNDARIES. I've had some issues with one individual who sucked me into this Fandom, they refused to take no for an answer, and forced me to rp an incest ship. This has scared me away from the rpc for years. If I say no, it does not mean "convince me," it means no. I have a three strikes your out policy.
Due to this experience, I'm in a very weird place with ships, I currently don't ship Bonnie and I go back and forth as to whether or not I will in the future. You are free to talk about ships with me, but you must must MUST communicate with me!! Even if we have a ship, please communicate with me if you want to change something or break them up, please don't just end it without warning or talking to me first. I'll never force you to ship a ship you don't want, but if you don't warn me first, I will think that you want Bonnie to try and save I do not automatically have fronnie as a canon ship. I do not automatically ship them- but I do, personally believe they are Canon, just not here. They are best friends. Is there room for something more? TALK TO ME and find out. It depends on the chemistry between our characters. This is true for ALL ships, but it applies the strictest to Fronnie. I am a shipping whore, I really am, and as long as it's with another animatronic, (and that animatronic isn't supposed to be or looks like a child,) I will most likely be open to it!
I have a full-time job as a daycare teacher. I am not always online. Do not pester me for replies.
I like to talk in the DMs!! Please don't think that this is a passive aggressive attempt to get you to reply, as eager as I get, this is a hobby, and I will not rush you intentionally!! Please tell me politely if I make you feel rushed or don't want to talk via dms. (I personally just think that writing is more fun when you know your partners.) That being said, I do not want you feeling like you are responsible for my personal feelings, and vice versa. You are allowed to say no, I am allowed to say no. If you try and guilt trip me, that will count against your three strikes. (And I will warn you dw.)
In addition to this, if you do NOT like communicating via dms, please tell me, and I will stop. If you just ignore me or ghost me, I'm either going to continue to try and reach out, thinking you forgot or didn't get notified, or I'll become intimidated, and think I did something wrong. We're all adults here, we can use our words. You don't have to follow me if you don't want to interact.
I have kept up with the lore moderately well, but if I don't know something, or have forgotten something, do not bully me. I have zero tolerance for it. You respect me, and I respect you.
From now on, this blog is run from a separate blog as well as this one in an attempt to distance myself from my toxic ex-friend. Since tumblr thinks this blog is now run from two separate blogs, DMs will not be able to be used from here any more, therefore, all DMs will have to be sent to @twoiesfnafocs. If there is some sort of emergency, and you need to contact me quickly for any reason, you will have to send an ask, even just sending in "hey can you log in, I need to talk to you asap," I will.
If you want to let me know you've read these, go ahead and like it, but it's not required, I use an honor system anyway.

Foxy is transfem. While I do not mind IN CHARACTER transph*bia for the sake of conflict and angst, I have an absolute ZERO TOLERANCE for ACTUAL transphobia. As such, anons who do not make it clear if the transph*bia is real or fake will be ip blocked immediately. (Ideally, send in an emoji of some sort so I can identify you, or if you're a mutual trying to stir up some drama, dm me ahead of time so we're on the same page.) Hate towards me or my muse will not be tolerated whatsoever.
IC transph*bia posts will be tagged "Transphobia," as a catch all, but if I need to make a specific tag, please tell me. I want the drama, but in no way do I want to make this blog unsafe for you. Any actual tr*nsphobic content I receive will not be posted.
If, even after all my efforts, this blog still does not feel safe to you, but you still would like to interact with me (not Foxy), DO NOT SOFT BLOCK ME! Some of you already know this, but this is not my only blog. Instead, please inform me that this blog makes you uncomfortable and you don't want to follow it. I will gladly reach out to you on my hub blog, and direct you to my other fnaf rp blogs. Your safety is more important than our hobby.

✒️🎉🌓👀🎲🥂
✒️ the muse's canon
//I love this movie a lot. Does it have issues? Of course. But that goes for any film out there. I know I'm in the minority when I say I whole-heartedly love the canon of the film. Most people either want the Nerissa twist retconned or the film just deleted entirely for the sake of their Chelby shipping. Meanwhile I would like to see canon be used as a jumping off point for greater stories. I would rather focus on the world of RGTK than a single ship that wasn't ever going to happen in canon anyway.
🎉 the fan favorite character of my muse's canon
//Lord, I don't want this just be a whole rant thing because I do love Chelsea. But I'm so sick and tired of people literally turning her into the thing the movie mocked and made fun of. She is a villain. That's what she was made to be as. In every iteration of RGTK, from the darker mature story to the OG pitch Chelsea is the antagonist. That's her role. Like, I don't mind her becoming the fanon version of herself. That's called character development. But outright erasing her antagonist-ism just so you can supplant your need for shipping is just UGH. And it really sucks man because she's such a fun character on screen. She is. I love her!
🌓 crossovers
Crossovers? Love them. Adore them!! Tumblr is the perfect place for the most bizarre rp crossovers. I remember a long time ago when I played Dr. Doofenshmirtz and he ended up meeting Rick Sanchez. It was hilarious because Rick was flabbergasted over how Doof was simultaneously smarter and dumber than him at the same time. Or back in my Ratchet and Clank days where we had this crossover thread with Sonic characters where Emperor Tachyon faced off against a lombax OC and Knuckles from Sonic. Ahh, memories. But yeah, crossovers are always welcomed here!
👀 dash commentary
//It's a fun little thing! Admittedly I don't do it as much as I used too. But I feel like that mostly stems from how different tumblr acts now compared to how it used to be in the better days.
🎲 ask memes and sentence starters
//Outside of just making greeters, they're the best way to show someone you're interested. Or you're just curious to learn more about someone's muse and how they work! Good stuff, yeah!
🥂 my favorite part of the canon
//Giant monsters! Listen, I am a sucker for kaiju. It's kind of what pulled me into RGTK in the first place. And you're telling me I get four giant kaiju's in this film??? And one of them is a mermaid? Something we usually don't see?? Sign me the heck up!
And we see so many other monster statues down in the kraken kingdom and other monsters are name dropped in the art book! There's so much potential for other kaiju's in RGTK's world!!
And you know what? The Nerissa twist. But I should give some context for it. I went into this film pretty blind. I didn't watch any of the trailers. I knew it was coming out and had a vague idea of what it might be. So, I go and see it. I'm enjoying it so far. We get to the half way point where Chelsea's like, 'My mother died trying to get it.' and in my head I'm like, 'AHA. I've got this film figured out. She's gonna use the trident to get revenge for her mother. Finish what her mom started in a sort of way.'
But then we get to the final act and 'Lol, actually I am Nerissa.' which genuinely took me by surprise. I didn't expect that. Ya got me good movie. I didn't see that part coming, props to you. And then when I watched it again knowing she's Nerissa, it just makes her retroactively more evil and I love it.

This sounds harsh, and I don't mean to be mean, but it is incredibly frustrating and quite frankly, it comes off as insulting, and at the end of the day, it's not worth the anger.

Speaking of boundaries, this blog in particular deals with themes of child abuse, racism, and possibly more dark themes. Hey, friends! Just another reminder: This blog is meant to be mostly/primarily treated like an ask blog, utilizing the inbox to interact with Roger.
Threads and interactions with other rp muses are generally much more low priority as (among other factors) I tend to have very little motivation/energy/am too depressed for those things these days due to an ongoing situation on a different blog of mine. (This is also part of the reason why it tends to take me a lengthy stretches of time to get thread replies out.)
Additionally, when I reblog rp memes, it is with the idea that they are open to everyone regardless of whether or not you are a roleplayer. Even things like sentence starters can be sent in just to see how my Roger will respond to it and not necessarily in the context of initiating back-and-forth roleplay threads. If an ask meme I reblog explicitly refers to the asker's muse, you are free to ignore that and send questions, prompts, etc. for yourself.

Obviously: this is an oc blog. I am oc friendly. However, if you don't have a rules or about for your blog, I'm probably not going to interact.
Angelette is not a self insert, nor is she 'a little bit of everyone for funsies!! :))' She is her own unique character, that has reasons behind her design, reasons for her actions, there's a reason she does acrobatics, but her deep lore is something to be unlocked and discovered. I have thought things out, do not assume she is a thoughtless character I rushed to get in on the hype of the show. There is something of a story to be told here.
Don't always try to fix a conflict immediately? Especially if this is a common theme of the blog. My characters have flaws, sometimes they have physical issues. It wouldn't be fun or interesting if I took that away from them. I like tension sometimes, so don't take away a threat or conflict within the first three replies if you can help it!

I am a shipping whore: but I ship chemistry, not aesthetics. Angelette is 24, and she is a lesbian. (This wasn't put into her bio bc I don't think it's a huge part of her character.) I am okay shipping with NPCs, but know in advance that there will be conflict and angst that comes with it. (Then again, I'm also a slut for angst, but I mean angst pertaining towards the relationship.)
RESPECT MY FUCKING BOUNDARIES. If I say no, it does not mean "convince me," it means no. I have a three strikes your out policy.

I use the source material, I don't operate under theories. Exceptions may pop up if one of my partners DOES write their muse or muses under such pretenses, but the bog standard for this blog is that Caine is an AI, Bubble is an NPC, and the main cast are all humans.
I have a childhood fear of dolls, very specifically Raggedy Anne dolls. This does not mean I hate Ragatha or think she's a bad character, nor does this mean I don't want to interact with her. However, I do ask that Ragatha icons are not used in our threads, ESPECIALLY if they're gifs. Her mouth movements make me uncomfortable, and that's about it, however I may not always be in the best mental space for it, so this is more of a safety net boundary.
If you want to let me know you've read these, go ahead and like it, but it's not required, I use an honor system anyway.

Raw Starters !
Taken from the 2016 movie, Raw! Some of these have already been edited. You can change them however you see fit!
“So, brainiac, show' em what you can do. OK? See you.”
“Hurry, the boss is waiting.”
“Hey, it's just a game. What do you think could happen?”

“Don't start the year by chickening out. They're watching.”
“Find yourself a quiet corner. Wait it out. The year always starts out rough.”

“Stealing a burger's fucked up, even for me. You need cash?”
“OK. Even with an hour's sleep, you're still drunk.”

“No, no, you'll circumcise me!”
“You're leaving them like this? Really? They can't eat!”

“Fuck! Are you kidding? I did this for you, idiot! You need to learn, right?”
“Hospital party. It's hardcore. They party on call and barf if someone comes in.”
“You taste like curry.”

“Nice way to treat a person after deflowering them. Makes me feel great.”
“I'm sorry. We... I shouldn't have done that with you.”

supernatural sees women as a tool for development and strengthening of narratives/motivation and dean sees his body as a tool. is that anything?
When I saw this ask I really made the 🥴in real life. So, yeah anon, I do think there’s something to this.
Quick Disclaimer before I actually launch into my thoughts™: A lot of my read of Dean stems from my experience as both an oldest daughter and a transman. Being the oldest daughter was an experience I lived for many years, but I am also a man. I wasn’t raised as a man, I wasn’t socialized as a man, and even though once I came out upon reflection my masculinity was obviously there. Like I was a man™ before I knew I was a man. Even when I actively tied my identity to femininity for a long time! A lot of my prideful moments were based around statements like: “I was the only girl who (fill in the blank).”
So I am just putting that out there before I launch into my spiel about Dean/Gender/Tool because they all interlock for me.
I am also going to apologize in advance because I know this has fully gone off the rails and I’m not even done writing it yet. If this is incomprehensible ! Well, happens to the best of us.
First off, most importantly I guess before we discuss womanhood and Dean and the way both are utilized on the show I need to say that I personally don’t subscribe the whole Dean is female coded thing.
It’s a read I can absolutely understand. But for me..he’s not.
He’s a hypermasculine man to the point that when (and because he is written as a punchline, as the stupid™ brother, as the whore™, as the mother/father™, as daddy’s blunt instrument™, etc) Dean deviates from the pre-accepted definition of hypermasculine it’s Wrong.
It’s Instantly Feminine.
I think the internet has made the world very black and white, or blue and pink maybe. This point, I think, colors a lot of these discussions. Dean cooks, he cleans and so therefor he’s female coded. When that really just feeds back into the whole toxic masculinity loop. You can’t be masculine and cook and clean and cry. That’s for feminine people only.
I get the argument! I do, I just think that Dean’s actions are not inherently feminine, it’s just in the vacuum of Female and in the Absence of Traditional Masculinity it makes sense to assign him female coded and move on.
IN FACT the way that Dean is the action hero of the show, the Masculine™ one on the show - but he cries, and he rages, and he cooks (Again and Again) and cleans (Again and Again). The fact he’s macho and confident but he has so little self esteem. Is frankly insane to me. You have this blaze of glory character who is so depressed that they have him kill himself. Twice. In explicitly “I hate myself, I hate hearing all the things I hate about myself, I want to destroy myself” ways.
On just a regular ol’ network show that is just ungodly bad at times. They let their Male Hero cry - all the time (if I linked every example of this the essay would be...longer than it already is, but just take my word for it). Dean tears up and grieves and shows more than just Angry Horny Violent™ (he shows plenty of that, don’t get me wrong) but he’s Emotional (Again and Again and Again). In many different ways!
I mean, beyond even just tearing up, they make their Male Hero™ face sexual violence in pretty, uniquely horrifying - and queer! - ways.
Let’s make it clear, they did a lot of this unintentionally.
Or they do it as a joke.
Off of dean for a moment to say women are plot devices in this show. I could probably count on one hand female characters who have sincere depth to them that have roles outside of progressing plot, filling a filler episode, and who are still alive. Like even characters such as Charlie who are wholly developed, and interesting, are only remembered/mentioned/utilized to progress plots or fill an episode out - and then she dies. For pain™ for plot™ for no other reason than to traumatize a character.
Which let’s also make it clear Dean’s trauma is also only used as a plot device (as is Sam’s but in a different way, and Cas’ trauma is a whole other barrel of fish we’re not gonna dive into right now). Like wholesale full stop they don’t actually care about what happened to him. Unless it’s relevant in an episode.
Oh that boys home he was left at when he was 16 for months? Sure we’ll sprinkle that in in the back half of the series. Oh he was covered in bruises and said it was from a hunt (when it’s clear contextually they were from his father but saying the fantastical but true is easier than saying the uncomfortable but true). As Dean says though the story became the story, he was sixteen. He just went along with what John said.
We only see Dean ever truly rage at John, by the way, when either Dean is dead (when he’s between life and death and he rages at John, right before John “apologizes” for traumatizing him, for putting too much on Dean’s shoulders, and fucking dying) or John is dead (the Djinn episode where Dean is straight™ and John is dead™ and he goes to his grave and just yells and rages like he should have to his father in the real world).
Dean’s trauma from being both tortured and torturer in hell? Yeah, we don’t talk about that after it’s Relevant™. Even though it’s clear - especially in the demon!dean, mark of cain era, all those years later - Alastair still has his hooks inside of Dean. I stopped watching originally after s8 ended. I was fed up with the show, and with this whole renaissance I’ve been doing a rewatch and I’m into season twelve now and it really has never come up again.
Even when he had the mark of cain and he was tasked with questioning and accused of torturing it was “the mark has changed you” and not “you were victim and victimizer in hell for forty years, which is longer than you’ve been alive on earth” (and, was about as long as he wound up living. Which is desperately sad.
Because we talk about Sam’s desire for a “normal” life but, Dean wanted out too. He was tired in the first few seasons of this show, he never had a chance to taste freedom (we don’t count the boys home, because that was a different kind of regimented life, and it was a false freedom) the way that Sam did in Flagstaff with Bones or at Stanford with Jessica. Love for Dean is sacrificing, it’s putting himself/his happiness/his well-being last.
Because Dean only knows love in the context of violence (like all of these fun examples, for starters) is a phrase that I’ve said a lot both in private chats and on here, and I absolutely think it goes to him being a tool (a blunt instrument, a plot device, so both textually and metatextually) instead of a person. Which Cas sees Dean’s shame/guilt and sees that side of Dean because he touched his soul, and saw more than just the Righteous™ man, more than just the tool, he saw A good man, not a machine.
On the other side though you have how “bad guys” view Dean: Desperate, Sloppy, Needy, Dean’s hole (Again), which is again so wildly counterintuitive to the story of a Macho Man Hero™. You’re using vocabulary that is both queering him and feminizing (and I know this a meme format, but sincerely it is done in a derogatory way it is feminizing. It’s breaking him down to bare parts, to a sloppy hole).
My whole rewatch I have been absolutely fascinated by how identity and free will is utilized/conceptualized on this show. Castiel has been my main focus, but Dean and how he is framed by himself and others is...fascinating - and frustrating. The writers inconsistency lends itself not only to this unintentionally queer character, but also one that again is incredibly easily read as a non-traditionally masculine character.
As a feminine character.
This show has so few female characters that of course it had to foist the roles/behaviors/plots that a female character might have onto a male character. Which I think is part of why reading Dean as trans (either transmasc, or transfemme) is so easily done like.
Half of these are shit posts, but you can find trans allegories/textual evidence in this show again, again, again, again, and again. And this is unintentional, they don’t want you to look at Dean and see woman, former future or present. Like a lot of these I’m sure are punchlines for them, because women/queer folk are punchlines to them.
Sometimes the only women in an episode are random witnesses who get two sentences of dialogue, and then the main guest character is a man. Who flirts with Dean, and Dean is receptive to it.
They paint themselves into a corner, there are female Rabbi. So easily could Aaron have been a woman instead of a man, but they made the choice to play up the HaHa Dean & Men card.
Because, again, Dean has filled the slot of Woman™ of Female Lead™ and the flirting would’ve been straight if Dean was a woman. It’s a plot device, they needed to have the guest character be disarming, be cute, make the main character flustered.
It’s just the main character is a man, because they’re allergic to women. But they still need those female plots, tools of femininity, to move their show forward. I mean I am a big subscriber to transmasc Jo (no idea if anyone else is with me on this one, but let me explain). Jo is in love with Dean (concept) not Dean (actuality). Which, we’ve all had our eggs cracked by someone like that. We were in love with them until we realized we just wanted to be them.
He loved her like a little sister, she loved him like a lost idol. He’s a golden calf and she dies for him, because she believed in him, she was the original character dashed at the altar of the Winchesters.
I fully believe if she had lived and if this show had a crumb of actual good writing Jo could have been a deeply compelling transmasc character. But I also think she’s a fascinating inversion of Dean. Dean is a Masculine Character who subverts Toxic Masculinity, Jo is a Tomboy™ she’s not your (if you take it straight, literally and metaphorically) average female love interest. She’s angry, she’s not soft at all, all edges and corners and thorns. She isn’t helpless, she’s stubborn but not in a “you’re going to get punished for this” way. She’s right when she’s stubborn. She’s helpful, she’s a martyr.
I could do a whole other essay just on Jo (and Ellen, and Ash, what a fucking trio!) but needless to say Jo was one of the first...plot device feminine tools sacrificed to this show. She was a regular, she was unique, she was an engaging character, and she still died (to progress the plot? no. for man pain? yeah, for like three episodes maybe, and then it’s forgotten just like the rest of Dean’s trauma, as we mentioned above).
Dean and Women and Love is a very interesting tool used too because. Boy they sure try to make Dean love women and it fails in small ways, and in big, meaningless, failed het domesticity (again) ways. Not to mention whatever Lust (in the form of a woman) having no effect upon him, when they could have used that moment to assert his Masculinity and Heterosexuality. He behaved normally? And...also...whatever the fuck the Adios thing was!
Like they have these opportunities to make him Traditionally (toxically) Masculine, but make the choice to...not? To soften him. Because it’s a tool. He’s their female lead, textually he had to take on the role of mother(/father) to Sam, but...I mean this is a million miles long already. I know, but we absolutely can’t not talk about his Paternal/Maternal behaviors. (Which appear again and again again and again, outside of his relationship with Sam even/especially). He’s the mother hen, sage, safety net, beacon, home to so many side characters they meet.
I mean in many ways Jody is also a Dean comparison. Lost her family. Found a new family. She is non-traditionally feminine, but easily flustered and Silly™ (let’s just drop the entire sex talk over family dinner scene with Alex and the boys and looking to them for help, even though she was already a mother, and she’s a cop, and a hunter and this confident no nonsense individual.... She’s not). We are meant to see her as this hard ass, but she makes extra food for the boys to take back to the bunker. She’s deadly in a fight, but also still easily overwhelmed and put into damsel mode, and she cares so much even in the face of adversity.
It’s also fun to see how Jo | Jody are reflections of Dean at different points of his life. Younger, cocky | Older, settled.
Even when the text tries to tell us that he’s not.
When it reminds us that he’s violent. That he is his father, even if he says that Sam is more like John (which was reflexive, which was angry because of Adam and how Sam was behaving like Dean in that episode, and yes there are parallels to be drawn between Sam and John, the show barely dives into them). Instead we’re told that Dean is John (Again and Again and Again and Again).
So intensely that a fanfictionalized version of the Winchester Gospels makes it an entire fucking musical number.
And yet, despite the texts insistence to make Dean Macho Man Father Reborn™ We get this Dean who is silly (and directly compared/contrasted to the female character in this scene), soft, in heels, nagging, and... Sully (you know Sam’s imaginary friend who has the same Haircut Dean has, who is a softer, shorter, friendlier, campier, version of Dean who was a replacement For Dean until the real one let Sam back in? That? Sully?) it’s hard to take them seriously.
Hell, even when he was A DEMON? What did they do? They had him sing off-key drunken karaoke, they had him doing this ! Like that’s your hero, unhinged, free to be as bad as he could be, and you put him in a cowboy hat in a romance with the king of hell.
The Female Lead, everyone. Who’s biggest betrayal(s) comes at the hands of his love interest (again, a man even though it was an angel who could’ve taken any vessel! who could’ve been recast, who canonically dies admitting his love to Dean - that one), who he tries so hard to be loyal to.
The contradictions of his character are laughable. He is so emotional, but if he is engaged about his emotions? He shuts down, or he’s exasperated about being asked about them. It really is Female Lead/Only Here For The Plot disease, because everything is more important than him. How’s he doing? Doesn’t matter outside of the context of how x character is doing or that y character is dead. Or his emotions only matter if they’re done in penance.
They also really do frame him as Pretty Boy™ in a violent way, or in a derogatory manner. They’ll give us homoerotic shots like this or these and never really acknowledge how these are gay shots. Sorry the gun scene is a a straight up sex scene, the beer sip spilling out over his mouth is oral, the scene where Cas fills up Dean’s glass with whisky is also a sex scene, they do this shit on purpose but accidentally queer it up. If Dean was a woman these scenes wouldn’t even matter. They’d be passing moments, but because he is not just a man but A Man™ they’re insane to see.
Not to mention all of these scenes and all the ones I haven’t linked where Dean dresses up. He performs masculinity, but he performs femininity too. He’s a plot device that is slotted in to whatever role they need. He’s Super Straight Butch Man™ but coaches the lesbian on how to successfully flirt with a man. He’s Action Hero™ who sits through a montage with the same lesbian and yays and nays her outfits, and enjoys himself.
Fuck he loves dressing up, he feels better in these costumes because performing a character is easier than being himself. Because who is Dean? He’s a tool, both textually and metatextually. It is exactly how the women and because of the women on the show that Dean is the way that he is. If there was a more steady female presence Dean would not be half as much of a plot device or half as camp/gay/feminine/non-traditionally masculine/queer coded as he is.
In conclusion....
#dean winchester#supernatural#spn meta#spn#gender#anon#replies#messages#my writing#ANYWAYS PHEW okay anon i don't know if i even fully got to your point but i woke up at like 3:30 to this ask and i've been fixated on it#HOPE THIS IS EVEN JUST a little bit coherent#the way i meant for this to talk so much more about transness and eldest daughter syndrome and just FORGOT#oops#oh well

The first 1% is always the hardest
Usually, the hardest part of acquiring a new skill is starting it for the first time.
When you’re at an intermediate level of progression, you can usually just increase your skill level by incrementing up the difficulty linearly. If you’re a novice weightlifter and your best overhead press is 125 lbs, try adding 5 lbs to the bar and see if you can overhead press 130 lbs. (If not, keep lifting 125 lbs every few days until that becomes “easy,” then challenge yourself with 130 lbs again.) If you can do 10 push-ups, you will probably reach the point where you can do 11 push-ups, and 12 push-ups, and 15 push-ups, and 25 push-ups, and so on. The hardest part of lifting is day 1, when you might be performing certain motions for the first time in your life, and challenging your body to work muscles that you didn’t even realize existed.
I imagine the same is true of other fitness regimens: once you’re able to run a 9 minute mile, you probably have what it takes to run a 8:30 mile, or a 8 minute mile, if you keep at it. Eventually you’ll hit a plateau and the limits of human performance, but the first day in the gym is always the hardest.
This is sort of how the trajectory of my writing career went. And having talked to artist friends, and musicians, it seems like all of them followed a similar trend: they found a thing, they stuck with it, and over time found themselves advancing along that path bit by bit. It became a hobby or a routine such that over time, by by investing a bit more time, or a bit more effort, or challenging themselves a tiny bit more, they got better at it. And over years, the compounding returns of that meant that the girl who got a drawing tablet at age 14 found that by the time she was 22 years old, she had enough artistic skill to make enough money from her art to make a living.
I think that in a lot of cases, people were able to start down that path of gradual self-improvement in part because they were able to somehow bypass the hardest part of it -- they blazed right through the initial difficulty without even realizing it. They couldn’t even really answer the question of “When did you start drawing,” because they’ve always been drawing since the days that they were just doodling with pencil in paper at school. Maybe they just really enjoyed playing outdoors as a kid, and played soccer because it was fun, and made the seamless transition to being a high school athlete. In my case, I spent a lot of time writing long-winded forum posts explaining the finer points of topics I was passionate about (which, at age 13, was mostly Pokemon and Final Fantasy), and somehow by my 20′s I had enough of a penchant for explaining things that I was able to parley that into a writing career (so I can get paid for my long-winded explanations of Pokemon-related topics).
The early days of learning to write kind of sucked and were difficult. (For starters, remember how unintuitive that QWERTY keyboard was the first time that you learned to type? Remember how painful it was to hunt-and-peck your way through sentences at an effective rate of <10 words per minute?) But my desire to talk about Pokemon on message boards overwhelmed any difficulty or “suckiness” involved with learning to express my ideas through text, and so the suckiness of those early days wasn’t really much of an obstacle.
More and more, I’ve come to believe that the most important part of learning a new skill is finding a way to get over that initial difficulty hump -- of finding a way to survive the first day, and then the first week, and then the first month, and eventually reach a point where inertia carries you forward on a gradual upward slope of self-improvement where you’re not even consciously thinking too hard about improvement; you just randomly muse to yourself one day, “Oh yeah, this barbell I’m picking up weighs about 100 lbs more than the barbell I was lifting a year ago. Fancy that.” The longer you keep at it, the easier it is to stick with it.
In many corners of the internet, there’s an oft-repeated adage that “Watching anime won’t teach you to speak or understand Japanese.” And sure, that’s obviously true on some level. If someone is thinking they’re going to spend a thousand hours watching subtitled anime, and then one day flip off the subtitles and be able to follow everything without missing a beat, they’re probably a bit delusional. If you want to actually achieve anything approaching Japanese fluency, you’re probably going to have to take a Japanese learning course, and engaged in spaced repetition to pick up and retain vocabulary, and all of the other stuff that goes into learning any language.
But I think that watching anime does provide you with one big advantage: it goes a long way toward helping you cross that “day 1″ hump. Because the first day is always the hardest. Going from 0 to 1 is harder than increasing your vocabulary by a few new words every week. Before you can get the compounding returns from incrementally improving at a skill, you have to have a starting principle. And I think that watching anime is actually quite good for that, because only knowing “weeaboo Japanese” will give you 20-30% of the vocabulary that’s included in your first couple Japanese lessons.
I’m speaking from personal experience: it’s incredibly heartening to go through a lesson and encounter words that I’m already familiar with. Even if my fluency in “weeaboo Japanese” only covers 10% of what’s introduced in a given lesson, having a head start gives me an intangible confidence boost which makes it easier for me to focus on and retain the other 90%.
I don’t want to understate the importance of that intangible confidence boost: a lot of language acquisition is getting comfortable with a language, and repeating something so much that you do it without even thinking about it. For example, in English, sometimes sometimes someone might ask you “how’s it going?” and you might answer “fine” before your brain has even consciously registered the meaning of what you were hearing, or saying. And I’m enough of a weeb that I can hear i tenki desu ne and immediately reflexively respond with sou desu ne, before my brain has even consciously registered the question being asked (sometimes taking several seconds to mentally backtrack and realize, “Oh right, the “i tenki” part means “nice weather.”). But years and years of listening and pattern recognition have taught me that when someone ends a sentence in desu ne? with the sort of inflection that says “I’m asking you a rhetorical question,” the proper response is probably sou desu ne, and my brain produces that response just as reflexively as it spits out “I’m doing fine, how about you?” any time someone asks “How’s it going?”)
One thing I’ve come to notice is that every lesson begins with some of some amount of review, giving you that spaced repetition, and providing context for the new words and concepts that the lesson is about to introduce, and generally provide a foundation for the new material. Day 1 is, by necessity, the exception -- how can you “review” material that you’ve never covered before? But for me, the day 1 lessons on how to say nihongo and arigato and watashi and anata were already “review” of topics that I picked up through years of being a weeb.
Besides that, there’s the fact that the structural elements of Japanese are something that my brain was naturally able to grok in a way that is intuitive to me after spending years listening to spoken Japanese even though most of it is contextual. (Like, I’m not sure when this happened, but at a certain point I think my brain just kind of learned, when listening to Japanese sentences, to approximate which parts were the verb and where certain clauses landed in the sentence, if only because when watching anime with subtitles you become consciously aware of when a character’s name appears in the dialog.) I’m not really consciously thinking about it, which kind of feels like the “natural” way to learn a language. (After all, it’s not as if native English speakers, as toddlers, consciously think to themselves, “Ah, it seems as though English typically follows a subject-verb-object grammar structure.” Kids just listen to adults speaking English and form sentences that way without really having to be formally taught.)
It’s highly likely that at some point in my internet career that I have at one point been the cynical message board poster telling someone that, contrary to their fantasies, watching anime isn’t going to help them learn Japanese in any real or material way, and if I’ve ever suggested that, it’s time for me to eat crow. Because while the advantage that “weeaboo-level Japanese” gives you might be small, and only help you on the first few days of Japanese class, those are the most important days, because the first 1% is always the hardest.
My familiarity with “weeaboo-level Japanese” has only given me one disadvantage, and that is that years of memes have poisoned my brain to the point where the first I was prompted with “say ‘excuse me’ in Japanese,” my brain (and mouth) immediately spat out “sorrymasen,” and I wish I could say it only happened once, but it wasn’t until around day 3 that I managed to fully train this habit out of myself.

Anyone doing the Post+ Protest this weekend?
Anyone want to, but you're not sure what you'd do without tumblr for 48 hours?*
Here are some suggestions:
work on your drafts off of tumblr - gather what you owe (it doesn't have to be everything if you owe a lot or do very lengthy replies, but it's better to grab more than you end up needing than running out) and write them using google docs or whatever program or app you like best outside of a browser. Then, you can move them over and format them as usual when the protest is over
work on your inbox - same deal! Just take what's in your inbox and write your replies off of tumblr (if your mutuals don't send the whole prompt or just looking at it, you can't remember what the full context was, find the memes and copy that, too, first)
get some headcanon prompts - pull them from memes, character development questionnaires, writing prompts, etc. and paste them into a doc to pick from and write later while logged off
write down headcanon topics until this weekend - just that, be thinking of things you'd love an opportunity to talk about but usually don't have the time or drive to tackle over the remainder of the week, and write them up while logged off
grab some writing prompts - use them as inspiration for writing some open starters or stand-alone things like doing the full month's worth of spooky, October prompts this year starring your muse, getting a head start this weekend
have a canon or an OC in specific fandoms? Of course, you do! And, I bet there are some thoughts you have about those universes and/or events involving your muse. You can write some meta, some discussion on how your muse differs from canon, or even a one-shot to fill in gaps with your muse or revisit an event from their perspective
make/learn to make those icons, edits, or graphics you've been meaning/wanting to do
anything you need to get caught up on or have been wanting to work on for a while, this is a great time to do it! Most of the things you do on tumblr as a RPer don't actually require you being logged in to work on
What happens when you have the impulse to check tumblr, though?
it's habitual, that's how habitual things work, don't feel bad about it or anything! You're not critically addicted to tumblr, and even if you are, it's not meth, it's okay
message friends instead - see ahead of time which friends/mutuals/writing partners are intending to do the logoff, you can help each other out by being around to DM each other instead
find something else ahead of time that satisfies the same habitual sort of needs - browser games are great for this, they often have the same elements of click, scroll, refresh
games games are great, too, it's just that we often still check tumblr on mobile while playing them and that might also be habitual for you
decide you're going to learn how to do something this weekend - make it something you can accomplish, but that is personally complex enough to be occupying for you while not being boring or feeling excessively like work
I've seen a lot of suggestions, this time and the last time around, but they're not specific to RPers...and a few of them are at least mildly insulting with an attitude that this is your time to realize that you're addicted to tumblr and need to go outside, this will be a life-changing experience for a healthier you.
Yes, totally read a book, have a movie weekend with friends, do various social activities (that are safe and responsible for you to do in your area, obviously), go on a walk, go biking, whatever the hell you want to do. However, I'm not comfortable implying that no one does this shit regularly as it is, or that everyone is physically or psychologically capable of doing it. Honestly, if you simply don't have a driving need for "a healthier life" and/or do not feel like you're leading an unhealthy, unhappy one because you have online hobbies, you're 100% valid as well.
So, I'd rather give some suggestions specifically geared toward RPers, that might be closer to normal for your downtime online, that are not negated by real-life limitations, and that aren't things that are your actual, daily responsibilities (studying, engaging with your pets, laundry).
If you participate in the protest, it's best to have some ideas before you log out, so I hope this helped!
*by the way, if you can't make it that full 48 hours, just fully logging out for as long as possible makes a difference! While the full 48 is the best and would be great, the whole point is demonstrating that we're really serious about how not alright with many aspects of this we are - if you never log off of tumblr or are usually logged in for several hours a day, logging off for as long as possible during the hours you're usually here does say something. Please remember that it is important to actually log out! Not simply not visiting your dash or interacting with posts, but literally logging out of your account(s).
-No one is judging you for not being able to participate, either, and there are a variety of reasons why you might not be able to. Maybe, if you have to remain logged in for the duration, you could help out friends who are protesting by keeping them busy, saving things for them to view on tumblr until after the protest is over so you're not reminding them, and generally being supportive of the effort in whatever way you can. This post is a suggestion post, it isn't meant to guilt or push anyone into protesting or shame them for not doing so. Neither is it a perfect listing of everything you could do - you can and should consider what will work out best for you as an individual!
-if you have questions about the protest, the link in the first sentence takes you directly to the blog for it. In the pinned post, they have information like what date and specific timezone time the protest will run for. They also have answered numerous questions, so, check out the blog, please! However, if you want to ask me why anyone is doing this: it is neither about tumblr or content creators making money, everyone is realistic about the former and supportive of the latter. The issue is tumblr advertising this feature to fandom content creators, refusing to listen to its userbase ever, and offering no legal protection will assuming no legal risks with this feature. There are other issues, but these are the primary ones, that the feature is incredibly harmful and legitimately dangerous to those it is being marketed to.

His name escapes from the trainer’s lips as a sharp, surprisedyelp, with pale hands instantly moving to grasp onto the male’s arms in arather desperate manner. Of all things, joking around about the young woman’s height—or,rather, the lack thereof—has always been quite common, and always done in goodnature, even if it has taken Serena quite a handful of months to learn that itis okay for her to strike back at him with witty quips of her own. Nothing hadbeen out of the ordinary, the two simply walking around with the other, when thegirl so foolishly responded to a harmless suggestion of his with ‘I dare you totry’. So, here the champion finds herself, hoisted up into the air so that shemight be eye-level with the gym leader, supported by nothing more than hisgrasp at her waist. Perhaps she is slightly panicked—perhaps grey eyes widen themselvesout of pure shock–, however, the smile that remains on pale features, andthe series of small laughs that escape from the female’s form are enough toshow that, no, Serena truly does not mind his actions—that, while it happens tobe unexpected, she finds it every bit as humorous as he does. After all, she is aware that there is quite a notable difference between them—itwas only a matter of time before her boyfriend attempted something like this, simply to fool around and prove a point.
“No, no, no– put me down…! I– you’ll drop me–”
Another set of laughs pierce the air, breaking off the rest ofSerena’s sentence as she attempts to keep herself from accidentally slippingout of Green’s grasp, and accidentally hurting herself. Of course, she truststhat he would not let such a thing happen—or, at least, not on purpose–,however the blonde would not put it past the gym leader to pretend that he is losing his grasp, just to evoke a reaction outof her. At the very least, she thinks, it is nice to not have to ask the boy tolean down, just so that they would be on the same level—it is nice to be likethis, simply sharing a moment with him that they both know is all in good fun. Herhands move to rest on Green’s shoulders, still holding on as though her lifedepends on it, and as Serena’s smile only dares to grow—to become warmer, and moreloving–, she continues to speak.
“This might be easier for you,but I– the view from up here is far too much for me to take in,”

Feel free to steal and fill out, but please repost, don’t reblog!
Tagged by: Stolen from @waywardfeathered
Tagging: steal it guys 8)
Main blog: @intergalacticstarlight
RP Side blog(s): I don’t have any side blogs or any alternate main blogs.
Non-RP Side blog(s): I don’t have any of those, either. This is literally my ONLY blog, for personal reasons.
Characters’ fandoms: Doctor Who.
Fandoms interested in RPing with: Doctor Who [of course], Supernatural, Harry Potter, X-Files, Star Wars, Once Upon A Time, Grimm, Lucifer, Vampire Chronicles, Silence Of The Lambs/Hannibal, Lucifer, Buffy The Vampire Slayer/Angel, Charmed, Star Trek, DC [any], Marvel [any], Law & Order [SVU preferably], Lord Of The Rings, anything really.
Fandoms NOT interested in RPing with: I don’t think there are any I’d refuse, though there are a good many I’m not familiar with.
Would you be interested in RPing with a character in a fandom you’re not familiar with? Of course I would! Especially considering it would be more realistic that way, as my muses wouldn’t know them or anything about their life/Universe at all. Reactions could be more genuine.
How exclusive or selective are you? I’m non-mutual, non-exclusive but still selective in a sense that if I feel our muses or we as people wouldn’t mesh well with writing together, I might not write with you. I like to give everyone a chance with first interactions but I’m a slow-to-respond writer [muses are finicky that way] and sometimes it just doesn’t work out. I wouldn’t mind going exclusive with certain muses so I might consider having semi-exclusivity in the very near future.
Do you have different verses for your characters? I’m a Multiverse blog so of course I do. I have different verses for each muse, and I also have multiple verses, private verses, AUs, crossovers, you name it.
Do you multi-ship? Y. E. S. Ahem. I mean. Yes, I just so happen to multi-ship. 8) I’m open to shipping with just about any muse, but I do have a few NOTPs listed on my Relationships page.
What format are most of your threads? (e.g. Short, para, icons, etc.) It very much depends on the person I’m writing with in the thread. For the most part, I almost never write less than a paragraph, and sometimes I can write multiple paragraphs to the extent of it being a short story in and of itself. I use purple prose heavily. If my partner uses icons or gifs, I’ll use them. If my partner formats their threads with html, I’ll generally attempt to do so as well [to the best of my ability] so that it matches the same aesthetic look.
What types of threads do you most like to write? (e.g. angst, fluff, smut, etc.) Anything pretty much, but my favorite types of threads have angst, Dark type threads, AUs, Crossovers, smut is fun to write, and of course a bit of fluff as well [especially with certain muses].
How do you like to start new threads? (e.g. plotting, asks, open starters, etc.) Plotting isn’t really necessary at all, context isn’t needed, even with AUs and Crossovers. I’ll generally just think of something that works best and go with it when I reply. Random starters are fine, open starters are fine, ask memes, sentence starters, plotting, ANYTHING is welcome!! Just toss something at me and make sure I know which Muse it’s for and we’re all good.
What would make you stop RPing with someone? OOC hate/drama/bullying, vagueposting or passive-aggressive posts aimed at me/my muses/my threads, constantly engaging in call-out-culture for anything less than a Severe Issue [sometimes it’s understandable and appreciated, most times it’s just used to cause drama and bullsh*t that I don’t need to be a part of], constantly pestering me about replies [by this I mean daily] especially after I’ve already told you that the thread is shelved or that I’m having issues replying for some reason, excessive god-modding, someone ignoring the set scene of the thread and changing it to suit their needs without asking first [which can be considered god-modding in its’ own right].... Just the basic things that Should Not Happen anyway by default.

HOW I RUN MY BLOG:
SPEED: It varies. With my work schedule and cons, I rarely have time to answer when I get home. But when the muse strikes me I zip them out like crazy!
REPLIES: I tend to try to add as much detail without going overboard. Sometimes it works other times... It spirals out of control with context. But I never need my partner to match length. Just give me a bit more than one sentence responses and I’m okay lol. Oh and I am much more of an on the go responder rather than planning every detail. I think stories flow better that way.
STARTERS: They are rare and far in-between. Mostly because I have been either swamped with replies or they just get blown off. So I am more of a meme poster which then goes into a more structured rp. Unless we discuss it beforehand so
INBOX: I swear I’ll get to my inbox more. While I post a lot I rarely get responses but when I do I am usually slow about replying since I have so much I still need to make up for haha. But please don’t be discouraged if your ask isn’t answered straight away. If you feel I didn’t receive one just shoot me a message. Sometimes I might be slacking but there are those times when Tumblr is a dick.
SELECTIVITY: I’m not really selective at all. There are some I am selective with if I don’t see a way for them to interact smoothly or at all well but that is very rare.
WISHLIST: It’s really bad but I want one where Nobu steals away someone’s significant other. The dragon is terrible and would love to make a taken woman his. Either romantically or just sexually.
HONEST NOTE: Time is a bitch. I honestly want to be on here so much more but life gets in the way. I love all my friends and followers I’ve made over the years. Thank you all for putting up with my shitty schedule.

Getting Started Role Playing
I’ve had a number of asks on this topic over the years, and rather than retyping the same thing repeatedly, I’m gonna try and collect my thoughts on how to go about this. All of this is assuming you’re on desktop; mobile makes some things a little more difficult. Feel free to add to this; I’m sure there’s things I’m forgetting.
Warning: Long Post!
First things first: Preparation
Get your blog in order
Create a character bio - This should include character name, a description, and a background. If your character is a canon character, then it’s not so bad to forego this, but I think it’s a good idea even for canon characters, as not everyone is going to be familiar with every single character in a universe.
Put a short explanation of the blog in the blog header - This is like a pitch or an introduction to what your blog is about. This should indicate you’re an RP blog, who you RP(if you have multiple muses on the blog, I think it’s okay to just say ‘multiple OCs’ or ‘multiple muses’), and maybe the universe your muse is from. Some blogs also include if they’re selective or not, multi-ship or not, open to cross-over/multiverse or not, etc, but not nearly as necessary.
Rules page - not necessary, but sometimes helpful if you have any particular things, such as being unwilling to RP smut, or you have some triggers/sensitive topics that you aren’t will to do, etc.
Make sure your inbox is open - Seems silly, but I forget this one frequently when I’m making a new blog. Check other blog settings as well- (submissions, anon, etc)
Follow other blogs - This seems obvious, but it is key. Follow other blogs you want to RP with! Find others from the universe your muses are set in. Do take the time to read their bios and rules pages, if they have any.
Write an Introduction post - Not everyone does this, but I think it’s very helpful. It should be a SHORT post, in or out of character. Many blogs are disinclined to reblog long intro posts because people instinctively skip over walls of text.
Reblog RP memes - The Intro post will help generate interest, the RP memes make it easy to break the ice.
Next Step: Getting Out There
Provided you have taken the time to read other people’s rules and bios, reach out!
If they’ve reblogged memes you are interested in, send an ask with that meme - These are GREAT icebreakers so you can get started with relatively low effort. Friendly reminder: Read the meme carefully. Typically the meme has some form of explanation or instruction in it, and it is very frustrating when someone sends in a meme when they clearly did not bother to actually read what it’s about.
Use the messenger to ask to plot - Sometimes blogs don’t post memes often, or they reblog memes that don’t quite work for your character. Politely ask to plot. Try to come with ideas. It can be frustrating when someone comes to you wanting to plot but has NO idea about what to do. I personally will frequently take premises from memes I like and adjust them as necessary.
Open starters - Alternative to memes, sometimes blogs will post ‘open starters’. These are usually open ended in-character posts that other role players can reply to. It isn’t a bad idea to post your own open starters either, if you’re feeling up for it. Note: Generally speaking, open starters once taken by someone are not available for additional role players unless otherwise noted in the tags. If you like an open starter that has already been taken, you can also use the messenger to ask if you can also get in on that. Many RP bloggers use thread trackers, so the starter would need to be copied to a new post before beginning RP.
Important Notes: Etiquette
There are a number of rules and behaviors that are important to keep in mind, some obvious, some not so much. In no particular order.
Patience - This is my number one thing. RPers come from all walks of life- full-time students and career people, big and small families, personal struggles, different time zones, language barriers abound. And Tumblr is not a well programmed website, so notifications don’t pop up, or get buried under other things. So don’t panic if people don’t immediately reply. Don’t be rude when following up after a reasonable amount of time has passed. Give people the opportunity to measure their replies to you.
Try to keep your In Character and Out of Character clear/separate - Some RP blogs are actually a mishmash of personal and roleplay. Many blogs indicate in the tags or with markings of some form(the most common being ‘//’ slashes or () parentheses). It can be confusing for people without these markers.
Do not reblog RPs you are not involved in - This is a personal pet peeve. RP posts are often only snippets of the overall story, and when reblogged it is taken out of context. The other problem is it adds notifications to a thread that aren’t from the partner, and can be confusing. RPThreadTracker doesn’t have a problem with it, but other forms of tracking can struggle.
Respect and ‘Don’t like Don’t follow’ - universes big and small, OCs and Canon Characters over the top and from humble beginnings, we’re all here to have a good time. You’re not going to like every mun or muse you come across. Not every other blog is going to like you or your muse. People talk shit about self-inserts, teenage OCs, people who like to RP almost exclusively smut, and myriad of other things. But those muns are doing things that make them happy. And you don’t get to control what other people do. If you don’t like it, don’t follow. Don’t RP with them. Let it go.
Self Care - This is part of a larger topic and related to the above bullet point, but important to at least touch on. Not everyone who RPs is well or good. This is meant to be fun. So if you are stressed out or overwhelmed by an RP partner or thread for whatever reason, talk to your partner about it. If they do not respect your requests or needs, then it would be better to not RP with them. There are people who struggle with a myriad of health and situational issues. You will at one time or another meet people who will insist you cater to their every whim, try to control you and your muse. Block these people.
Read tags - This may not seem like an etiquette thing, but this is important. Some people communicate extensively this way. It will help to prevent communication errors.
Read More - use the read more function for NSFW threads. It’s the [...] at the end of the options bar
Tagging - Tag NSFW, triggering content, and anything else you think appropriate. I also try to tag my different verses, my in character and out of character posts, etc.
Trim Your Posts - This is hard to do on mobile, but necessary. When a post has many reblogs, it can be tedious to scroll past. Trimming them/cropping them makes a big difference. [Link here for a tutorial on how to trim - Browser]
Mun and Muse Knowledge [Meta Gaming] - There maybe things your character does not know, and cannot know, that you know. Remember to keep the distinction. Nothing kills my desire to RP with someone than their character somehow reading my character’s thoughts.
Controlling other Characters [God Modding] - You control your character. Your partner controls theirs. You don’t control if they get hit by a punch, if they dodge, if they punch back. It’s part of the give and take.
Drive the Story - Role Playing is joint story telling. Don’t put all the burden if directing where the story goes on your partner. Give your partner something to react to, to build on. If you only ever give one sentence replies, it’s going to get tedious fast.
Other Tips and Tricks
I am a big fan of XKit, a browser addon that makes Tumbling much easier for RPers. [Link here!] The specific functions that are most helpful are Editable Reblogs and One Click Reply. Editable reblogs makes it far easier to trim in post. One Click Reply makes it possible to reply to comments and other notification forms.
In addition to those two, I also like to use the Blacklist, and Post Block functions. Some RPers or topics I particularly cannot stand, so I use Blacklist to keep them from my dash. Post Block is great for those discourse posts and individual RP threads that just squick you out for whatever reason.
I also am easily lost and confused by the innumerable notifications I get on the daily, so it became very important for me to use a website called RPThreadTracker. I highly recommend it, as I occasionally have threads that don’t get replied to for weeks. They also have an add-on button so you can click to add a thread to your list quickly and easily.
Terms
There is a bit of a jargon with this. Sorry if it’s been confusing thus-far!
Mun - the writer behind the blog
Muse - the fictional character, the character
IC/OOC - In Character / Out of Character
OC - Original Character
Thread - the roleplay, the chain of posts making up the story
Selective/Semi-Selective/Private/Mutuals Only - This is often in a blog header - indicates how picky the mun is about selecting RP partners and threads. Read their rules. Respect their decisions to RP or not to RP.
Multi-verse - Indicates the blog is open to threads outside of their designated universe. (IE, my Warhammer character being willing to RP with an Overwatch character). It is advisable to message the mun to hash out the details.
DM or PM - Direct message or private message. Both indicate the tumblr message system.
AU - Alternate Universe. Indicates a deviation from the traditional universe.
