Daniel Joseph Benton | Slave | 76 | Ghost | Versatile

“Can you hear me through the white noise, friend?”

Daniel Benton started life as a human in 1949 in America. He was a child born to a nuclear family; a mother, a father, and a younger sister. His parents had a very successful pest control business in Kansas and Daniel, nicknamed Danny, wanted for nothing. He lived in a nice neighborhood, went to a nice school, and his family loved him. By all means, Danny had the perfect life and yet he wanted for more. He wanted thrills. He wanted excitement. He wanted to hurt things.

It started with rats. He’d accompany his parents on jobs under the guise of wanting to learn the family business but it was a cover for the way he’d use his own traps for rats. He’d kill them with his hands at first, then with an old hunting knife he found in the family shed. Rats soon weren’t enough to give him the thrill he was looking for and he progressed to other small animals.

Danny took his first life at nineteen years old. It was 1968 and with the charming personality he was gifted with, he lured an old classmate into the woods he knew so well from his stint killing animals. With the same hunting knife he’d used for years, he killed. He killed and found that it gave him a rush that felt like orgasms. He loved it and it became an addiction. He didn’t let his need to take lives rush him. He planned his murders carefully and sporadically. He did not discriminate and would stalk and target whoever caught his eye. But no matter what, he always pulled out a tooth or two before murdering his victim. If they were a supernatural, he often took fangs. Danny became very acquainted with the weaknesses of other species strictly out of research on how to kill them as bloodily as possible.

Danny serially killed without suspect until he was murdered by a family member of someone he’d killed. Danny was 31 years old at the time. They had stalked him just as he’d stalked their younger sibling and they shot Danny in the back of the head before he could even register that he was being followed. It enraged his spirit so much that he dodged his reaper. He had unfinished business; firstly on the matter of finding out who managed to kill him, secondly because he needed more thrill before he called it quits. He needed to keep killing. In the first few years, he couldn’t manage more than becoming a whisper of a smoke-like substance. With pure rage and conviction, he worked up enough power to become corporeal. Flickering in and out of the earthly plane of existence, he tried to find his killer while satisfying his urge to kill for himself.

While Danny still hadn’t found his murderer after years, he became adept at killing as a ghost. He learned how to possess others and use their physical bodies to commit his murders. Doing this, he would use a person to travel. He would possess them as long as it took to get somewhere else, somewhere new, and then dump them with no conscience of what happened to them afterwards. As he learned to stay corporeal for longer, he stopped possessing people as much and used his own hands to take lives. He would become a friendly face at a local bar or dive and choose a victim to tail and kill. This continued before he was caught by hunter Magnai Khasar and brought back to Krovs Castle as a slave. Danny fully suspects that Magnai has his bones and that is how the master caught him. 

Daniel has been at Krovs only a short time. The ghost hates being a slave but his playful and charming, if a bit inconsistent, disposition would say otherwise. Daniel wants to befriend others, especially vampires, if only to try and manipulate them like a game for himself since he has no way to kill in the castle. He figures it’s just a matter of time before someone slips up and takes off his collar and so he behaves as well as a caught serial killer can.

Dante Gallo | Slave | 44 | Werewolf (Omega) | Bottom

"Aren't we all sinners?"

From the moment that he could talk, Dante has always known what his role in life, and within his pack, was meant to be. Born to the alpha of the group, his father had plans on marrying off his omega son to one of the men in a nearby pack to further seal an alliance between them, wanting as many allies as he could find with the vampires ruling supreme. With that in mind, Dante was raised to be what most would consider as the perfect example of an omega, something easy enough to do since he never quite displayed any traits that might be considered "undesirable". He was easy going and calm ever since he was a baby and displayed a heavy level of empathy the older he became. The rest of his pack, as a result, started to become overprotective over the omega and found it difficult to let him go when he was married into the neighboring pack at the age of twenty.

It was a rough adjustment for Dante, even though he'd known it was coming, and it took him over a year to find his place within his new family. One of the reasons for this was that, unlike his father's pack, this new one tended to move around fairly often throughout the year. With various homes spread all over the place, it was rare for them to stay in Italy for more than a few months at a time. Dante had only ever really traveled a handful of times as a teenager found this to be rather overwhelming. Combined with that, of course, were the difficulties he found with his new marriage. While his husband had originally presented himself as a kind and understanding man, he was completely different months into their relationship. Overbearing and emotionally abusive, it was no surprise at all when Dante started to seek attention and comfort within different affairs as the years went on.

This would, unfortunately, be what ended up landing him in Krovs. After a nasty blow up and a heated fight between him and his husband, Dante had taken off and gone to a bar in search of a distraction. That just so happened to present itself in the form of a vampire -- and a very charming one, at that. It resulted in a series of hook ups, with Dante getting swept away even more by the charm and the understanding that Hunter seemed to have for his situation. It all went sour, however, on one night when Hunter drugged his drink when Dante briefly stepped out of the room. He blacked out and woke up in Krovs, with a collar around his neck and with the new title of 'slave'.

Escander | Slave | 750 | Celestial (Temperance) | Versatile

"Lord have mercy, for they know not what they do."

Escander has always been, in his own estimations, a very junior celestial. He was deeply surprised that he ever got to visit the earth at all, having taken centuries to build up the courage before he slipped down out of sheer curiosity in the early 1500s, between the two great wars. Escander quickly fell in love with humans, admiring all their quirks and peculiarities of beings, and most of all, that, no matter how flawed they were, in his summations they were constantly striving for the light. He travelled the world for a few decades, before returning to what felt most familiar - to places of worship and prayer. He quickly settled into a monastery deep in Eastern Europe, in an area which would eventually become known as Romania, and there he settled.

He had never truly intended to stay on Earth for any great length of time, just a century or so to sate his curiosity. But the monks of the monastery seemed so delighted to have him and there always seemed to be some manner in which his help was needed - in healing, in teaching, in the guiding of their precious souls in spiritual matters. None of this is to say that Escander took over the monastery, in fact he took great pains to always defer to the abbot and to hold himself to the same rules and order as any junior monk. He treated the monks as brothers, with the deepest of possible affections from the eldest and most senior to the boys of eight or ten first joining the monastery. He once even took a vow of silence for fifty years with a monk of just eighteen, who was scared he wouldn’t be able to keep it by himself. All of this, though, paled in comparison to the love he felt for a particular monk, Stefan.

Escander would, being no fighter of himself, have departed for the heavens at the beginning of the second war, had it not been for Stefan. Stefan came to Escander’s monastery already of the cloth and in his late twenties. Although Escander had bonded with many of the monks who had come and gone, his relationship with Stefan was unlike any other and the two were completely inseparable. Escander would not have dared call it love aloud, for speaking it aloud would have spoken his sin into being, and though they never so much as allowed their lips to touch, he could not bear the thought of leaving Stefan. The longer he delayed, the more Stefan aged, and the more it pained Escander to even consider leaving. When Stefan died in 1810, in his bed, having lived into his nineties, Escander was certain of his misstep - that he had delayed and dilly-dallied so long that God would most certainly be angry.

Unsure of what he ought to do, something changed in Escander’s mind, a switch flipped, making him certain that his tenure at the monastery was, in fact, his mission from God (although no such missive had ever come). He had not moved more than twenty miles from the monastery since his arrival there, and continued to be stationary there for the next two-hundred years. Following the conclusion of the war, with celestials being highly prized and hunted, it was the monks that seemed more to be protecting Escander, whose existence became a closely guarded secret. Whereas in early times, monks and religious authorities from far afield had made pilgrimage to speak with Escander (though he understood not why), these became fewer and fewer as the monks of the monastery allowed others to believe that Escander had long since departed. They took great pains to ensure that Escander did not even go so far as the local market, insisting it was for his own safety. For many years, and throughout the lifetimes of many of the human monks, Escander remained an old story, perhaps one that had never been true at all.

Until recently. With the invention of the internet and mass media, and the slow collapse of the remoteness that protected such places as Escander’s monastery, Escander’s position became more and more precarious. The monastery closed to tourists and pilgrimage, began wasting away in its membership as fewer and fewer came through the doors, those remaining growing steadily older and more infirm. It was during an audit from the greater church that outsiders discovered Escander’s presence, and quickly betrayed it to hunters, who came in significant numbers and powers, knowing great force would be needed to take a celestial. Despite their certainty, Escander went quietly, as soon as he realised that the hunters were ready to slaughter the dozen or so remaining monks. Now he is uncertain what fate awaits him in Krovs.

Taryn Bannon, an Irish valkyrie, was once a celestial being tasked with guiding the souls of fallen warriors to the afterlife. Renowned for his martial prowess and unwavering loyalty, he was a guardian of the battlefield, ensuring that the valiant received their due honor.

However, during a celestial skirmish, Taryn was overpowered by a faction seeking to exploit his divine abilities. Stripped of his freedom, he was transported to Krovs Castle, known for its dark dealings and supernatural inhabitants. There, Taryn was subjected to servitude, his ethereal essence bound by arcane restraints.

After enduring the hardships of captivity, Taryn's fate changed when a compassionate individual purchased and subsequently freed him from slavery. This enigmatic benefactor, whose identity remained shrouded in mystery, vanished shortly after ensuring Taryn's liberation, leaving behind only a sense of gratitude and unanswered questions.

Choosing to remain in Krovs Town, Taryn sought a life of peace and purpose. Drawing upon his deep connection with animals Taryn established a sanctuary and business dedicated to the care and training of animals. His establishment became renowned for its exceptional handling of creatures, blending mystical insights with practical skills.

Despite his newfound freedom, Taryn grappled with the challenges of adapting to a simpler life. The transition from celestial duties to earthly endeavors was fraught with moments of doubt and introspection. Yet, his resilience and the support of the community enabled him to find a renewed sense of purpose.

Taryn's presence in Krovs Town not only enriched the community but also bridged the gap between the mystical and mortal realms, embodying the harmonious coexistence of diverse creatures. His journey from celestial guardian to humble villager serves as a testament to the enduring spirit's capacity for transformation and redemption.
