Cassian Lord | Villager | 315 | Dragon (Storm) | Versatile

"I want what they have, and I'm gonna take it."

Cassian was born to full blooded dragons in the English countryside in the year 1709. His parents, neutral on all sides in terms of the War, wanted to focus on their wealth and standing. His father was a lauded barrister (and still a practicing attorney today in Europe) and his mother is an entrepreneur, often investing in high-yield projects in all manners of different media. Cassian’s parents struggled with fertility for thousands of years before he was born and struggled after he was born as well. As a result, Cassian has no siblings.

Cassian grew up with high expectations but didn’t find them daunting. He’s a dragon who loves a challenge. Some might say he was spoiled well into adulthood and beyond, but he doesn’t act it. Cassian likes to challenge himself in any way that he can to strive for greatness. He wants to be an expert at whatever he chooses to put his mind to. He hates being bored and will do anything to occupy his mind and body. It has resulted in 300 years worth of jack of all trade skills and knowledge, which he only considers a meager start as he is still considered young by dragon standard. Cassian will try anything at least once, whether it be physical or mental.

The challenge that Cassian enjoys the most is within the physical body. Whether it’s a supernatural being or a human one, he finds the body fascinating. All sorts of supernatural beings can have different physiology, need different types of care and attention to either heal or become the peak of what they can be. He’s fascinated in beings that can change form like himself, that have accelerated healing like himself. Is it evolution? Magic? Science? The meld it all is something he could study for days and days. Not to mention the body’s response to certain stimuli.

The subject drew him into becoming a doctor. He’s got enough certifications and degrees to wallpaper a room, but he finds that the most lucrative of doctoral skills in plastic surgery. The lifestyle and clientele irritated him after a decade and now he focuses on clinical doctoring and physician work. He knows quite a bit about magic and the methods behind it. While unable to practice it himself, he has been prone to read and hoard texts about healing. Some things that he’s learned have been through friendships with witches and are exclusively from word of mouth; spells he will never be able to use stashed away in his mind for his own knowledge and perhaps profit if another witch wanting the knowledge could be exploited. With the science of today, he does find the use of others using magical abilities a bit of a short cut when it comes to small things that nature can handle on its own. 

Cassian has just moved into Krovs Town. A friend of a friend told him that the Oymyakon Health Clinic was in need of physicians. Wanting to spend some time investing in himself rather than his wealth for the first time in years, he made the move. His parents think it’s beneath him but Cassian considers it a vacation for himself. He doesn’t expect the short tempers of Hollywood starlets (or their agents) or any extensive life-threatening surgeries to come into play and that will be relieving. Krovs Castle being near was also a very, very nice incentive. He doesn’t have negative opinions on the slavery in the castle. He’s interested in what Krovs Castle has to offer and wants to explore it and its services, if only to satiate his own curiosity. Anything that benefits Cassian is something he likes and if he can gain enjoyment from another’s expense? He’ll support it.

Welcome to Halloween Town!

Krovs Town has been decked out with fog, jack-o’-lanterns, cobwebs, and all kinds of spooky decorations lining the streets upon entering the quaint village. The main events take place along Oymyakon Street where the hottest bars and clubs, like Cannabites and Euphoria, are hosting parties with special themed drinks, food, and music for dancing among other activities. The enchanted park has been turned into something quite frightening bathed in moonlight. Here attendees can partake in a haunted maze cursed with nightmare magic to bring forth the worst nightmares and fears as realistic illusions for those brave enough to venture through.

We hope you all enjoy yourselves!

HAUNTED ESCAPE ROOMS

The council has also created a few haunted-themed escape rooms in an abandoned mansion between the edge of Oymyakon Street and the residential area. The mansion has been redecorated to fit the aesthetic of a classic home from olden days with multiple rooms repurposed with puzzles, trap doors, and hidden secrets. A touch of nightmare magic around the property gives anyone who dares to enter a sense of foreboding, not enough to make them run away but to properly set the mood. The game master of this area shares with the participating pairs and groups the backstory behind this haunted home:

A century ago, a well-known wealthy family that once lived on the property centuries ago. The family's patriarch was once a mayor of Oymyakon Village before its rebranding into Krovs Town. The daughter fell in love with a poor stable boy that worked for the family, which remained a secret to avoid her father's wrath. It inevitably couldn't be avoided when it was discovered she was pregnant with the stable boy's child and the father shot him in their home. Devastated, the daughter threw herself off the second floor balcony killing herself and her unborn child. Some days you can hear her cries as she begs her father to spare her lover, or hear the gunshots echoing throughout the house...

Escape rooms within the mansion all take about an hour to solve and are in between easy and hard difficulty levels. Rooms to participate in include the grand parlor, the daughter's bedroom, and the basement. Though do be warned that the rooms will feature volunteered actors dressed as terrifying spirits of the house to help make these puzzles all the more fun and challenging.

(OOC: Players using this part of the event in threads are welcome to get creative with any NPC actors or other aspects like hidden rooms and clues. Player characters are also invited to work as one of the actors scaring escape room guests.)

DRESS CODE

Halloween costumes are strongly encouraged for this event!

Masters, staff members, and villagers all can pick their own costumes.

Claimed and purchased slaves should discuss with their owners if they will choose something for them or allow them to pick for themselves.

Unclaimed slaves will have costumes chosen for them by the castle – these can be anything given that there’s no theme this year, however, the possibility of them showing more than enough skin is pretty high. (Players will choose these costumes themselves from the castle)

OOC RULES

Our Halloween event will run OOC until 12PM EST Monday, November 4th. In game, this event will take place only on Halloween night (October 31st). Like always, players are free to choose if they wish to participate or not.

Players should only post starters that are related to the event now that it has begun. Please tag all open starters only with #event starter and #krovscastlestarter. Make sure to @krovscastlestarters​​ as well! Our rules on open starters in terms of limits and response requirements still apply; please see here for information. Please do NOT use the #krovscastleevent tag for starters so that players can easily find event information without clogging this tag. Keep in mind to reply to other open starters being posted. Open starters that are not related to the event will be reblogged after it has ended. Any starters prior to the event needing five responders will be advertised after our event ends.

Anyone looking to post event-related open starters should do so by Friday (11/1) evening. This is to ensure that all event open starters receive enough responders before our event ends next Monday. Any open starters for the event posted after Friday will NOT be accepted.

Players can choose whether they would like to place prior threads on hold to focus on event threads, however, this is not mandatory. All we ask is that players communicate with their partners or drop a note in the OOC about their thread status. 

Rules for masters, slaves, staff, and villagers still apply in Krovs Town! This means anyone, regardless of their role, who misbehaves or breaks town rules will be taken into custody or fined by the chief of police or his officers.

Unclaimed slaves are advised to behave their best and follow any orders they’ll receive. They are allowed to wander through town this evening without escorts to enjoy all the fun properly. Police officers and guards who have volunteered to work the event are everywhere and will report all misbehaving slaves to the police chief or enforcer. After the event, all unclaimed slaves will be returned to the Undercroft where they’ll be given a decent meal and allowed to shower.

Claims and purchases will stay intact throughout the event and all individual collars and marks will remain as well. Unclaimed slaves and staff members will continue to wear their usual collars, which can only be taken off by a master.

Applications will still be accepted during the event week.

Soren Mistry ("Aarav Surendra") | Villager | 37 | Human | Top

“Love is doing whatever is necessary.” 

On paper, Ravi Surendra’s early life is a simple one: an only child, a thoroughly average adolescence among the diaspora in Leicester, England, and a talent for the sciences that his family nurtured from a young age. That childhood intrigue carried the would-be doctor through long years of medical education to a promising research position in London where Ravi became the very definition of married to his job. He toiled alongside other professionals in the field of immunity and blood disorders, keeping up the steady business of preserving human lives that persisted alongside the presence of their undying ruling class. Vampires were not far removed from the lives of Ravi and his coworkers, but often primary investors in the business of medicine, reaping profits from the pockets of fragile humanity. Ravi discussed this contradiction often with his peers in their late nights at the lab and in 2017, to his parent’s despair, he left behind his established career to join a controversial biomedical team specializing in studying the inhuman. 

Their focus lay in the differences between supernaturals and humanity and how, if at all, they could be understood and documented in the rigid protocols of science. Ravi’s team considered if supernatural abilities could ever be adapted to improve human lives: testing blood and tissue, analyzing healing capacity, longevity, and countless other markers where mortals inevitably fell short. What if there was a universal vaccine for cancer in vampire blood? A way to tap into the genetic code of born werewolves to slow down aging, without the chaos of full moon transformations? What cure for degenerative diseases could be found in the marrow of a phoenix? It was risky, fringe research that only seemed to be allowed to persist because it so often failed. The Prometheus Group, as they called themselves, came under scrutiny countless times and would never have continued to function without private donors who considered their research worth funding – the Mistry-Van Wyck corporation among them.

An early donor to the Prometheus Group’s work, Soren Mistry was expected to follow in his father’s footsteps from his birth. Unlike the imagined Surendra household, middle class and tame, growing up the heir to the Mistry fortune was a strange combination of luxury and repression. Soren was a serious child, perceptive from a young age of the strange coldness between his parents and their expectations for their eldest: career, wife, children, legacy. His very real interest in the sciences was indulged so long as it served the family image, giving the Mistrys the pleasure of another doctor on the masthead, and so long as Soren understood his path would lead him to the boardroom in the end. 

For nearly all his life, he marched down the road that had been laid out for him in silent obedience, observing all the cracks in his family’s facade, rescuing his younger brother again and again from the hedonism that so clearly seemed to be Taliesin’s way of crying for help, or at least a brief escape. He eyed the moral decay within the company and gritted his teeth at his father’s greedy business partners, all too aware of the kind of associates a billionaire was required to maintain to hold their status. Soren was keen enough to name the faults but too afraid to challenge them, happy to talk a humanist agenda with his university friends and accept the privilege of the Mistry’s billionaire lifestyle in the same breath: the wardrobe and private jets and press attention, the endless open doors. Without Mistry-Van Wyck’s fortune, after all, Soren never would’ve had the pocket money that allowed him to shower five and six figures on the scientific organizations actually fulfilling the young man’s passion all over the world. 

So it was in 2015 that the Prometheus Group received nearly £400,000 in Mistry-Van Wyck’s name, an impulsive gift from a younger Soren freshly plucked from his postgraduate haven of white coats and research, strapped into a suit and choking down quarterly profit margin reports. His disillusionment was in full swing and the impassioned mission statement of the Group’s founders spoke to a deeper truth he had observed already at his father’s side: even a fortune meant nothing side by side with immortality. Soren had watched Viraj bow and scrape to vampires his whole childhood and realized as an adult that practice would extend to him as well. And were the Mistrys any better, ruling an industry fueled by extracting as much money as possible from every day people in exchange for putting a bandaid on the suffering of millions? 

Defection was never a real possibility in Soren’s mind but the idea lingered years after he had adapted to his role and the Prometheus Group had fallen out of the field’s spotlight after hitting dead end after dead end in their grand revolution for humankind. It might have remained there, had the scandal not thrown everything about the Mistry’s lives into sudden limbo. Soren himself underwent his fair share of questioning, though it became quickly apparent that the heir had been held at arm’s length when it came to the full extent of his father’s corruption. Even that he might have found possible to forgive, if not for their parents’ final capitulation to make the problem disappear. 

For years, Soren had found himself one step behind Taliesin, juggling his corporate world and picking up the pieces of his younger brother’s chaotic lifestyle, envying the other’s strange freedom and despairing at the same time over Taliesin’s treatment by tabloids and family both. He never considered that their parents’ apathy would go deep enough to abandon their youngest to the wolves, if it meant saving their own skins. Watching the hunters take Taliesin away, Soren realized all his good intentions meant nothing if he couldn’t be brave enough to protect the ones he loved. After Taliesin was gone, Soren lasted only a week in the role he had been playing his entire life. His work seemed impossible to pretend at, as was the idea that he could look at his parents with anything but disgust anymore. Arguments raged, accusations were leveled, more family secrets inevitably came to light and one night after an explosive confrontation with Viraj, Soren realized that if he didn’t leave, he would be the next person he lost all respect for. With a strange calm, the Mistry heir left his entire life behind in Mumbai with only one goal fixed in his mind: getting Taliesin back. 

The real Aarav Surendra was born in August of 2024, in a living room in London, from greased palms and pulled strings and countless favors from old friends in high places. A papertrail of legal documents to prove his existence, an impressive resume to get his foot in the door and just enough important people willing to talk about him over the phone as if he ever truly existed. While the Prometheus Group has since dwindled, their work continues wrought back down to basics, seeking out answers in places like Krovstown with access to just about every variation of supernatural yet known. A potent excuse for a dedicated researcher to travel to such a remote corner of the world and a fair trade for a humble clinic in dire need of professionals on staff in one of the few places on Earth where humans form the minority. Though Soren’s cover serves one purpose, there’s no denying that he now finds himself in a position he once might have dreamed of. He comes to Krovstown prepared to wait, but not entirely ready to face the answer to a new and crucial question: what kind of person could ‘Ravi’ be if he didn’t have to be Soren Mistry?
