Here's a closer look at the Flash stats — Barry Allen at least is doing real great recently! He's the highest of the non-Trinity heroes! His big dip in the 90s is actually when Wally West took over the mantle. When we include Wally and Jay (the first Flash), they've actually done quite well for themselves over time
Tumblr media
The Flash is also one of the only heroes right now that has multiple solo/family series (The Flash, Jay Garrick, Speed Force) as well as appearing in quite a few crossovers (JL vs Godzilla vs Kong, Titans, JSA) (as well as Captain Boomerang appearing as a villain in Suicide Squad: Kill Arkham Asylum).
Tumblr media
If we do a breakdown of the current comic runs by hero, the Flash is tied for 3rd place in the most solo/family/rogue series. The first is Batman (unsurprinsingly), the Superman with 5, Green Lantern also has 3 series and is tied with the Flash for 3rd place, and Wonder Woman has 2. Four heroes (Green Arrow, Captain Marvel, John Constatine, and Blue Beetle) have one solo each. There are 10 crossover series and 3 that don't fit categorization (Mad Magazine, Scooby-Doo, and Looney Tunes).
I've placed a more in-depth breakdown below the cut
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
BATMAN Family/Rogue series: total 23
Bat main character: 18 (Batman, Detective Comics, Batman '89: Echoes, Batman: Gargoyle of Gotham, Batman: Off-World, The Bat-Man: First Knight, Batman / Superman: World's Finest, Batman and Robin, The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries, Batman / Dylan Dog, Nightwing, Red Hood: The Hill, Outsiders, Catwoman, Harley Quinn, The Penguin, Poison Ivy, Suicide Squad: Kill Arkham Asylum)
Bat side character: 5 (Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong, Justice Society of America, Titans, Birds of Prey, Suicide Squad: Dream Team)
* varies from the earlier breakdown graph because I'm including Batman/Superman World's Finest, Suicide Squad, and Outsiders under main character designation rather than crossovers. Bats make up a majority of those teams.
SUPERMAN Family/Rogue series: total 12
Super main character: 7 (Kneel Before Zod, Power Girl, Sinister Sons, Superman '78: The Metal Curtain, Action Comics, Superman, Batman / Superman: World's Finest)
Super side character: 5 (Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong, Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Justice Society of America, Suicide Squad: Dream Team, Suicide Squad: Kill Arkham Asylum)
* varies from the earlier breakdown graph because I'm including Batman/Superman World's Finest and Sinister Sons under main character designation rather than crossovers as a super is one of two main characters in each.
WONDER WOMAN Family/Rogue series: total 5
Wonder main character: 2 (Amazons Attack, Wonder Woman)
Wonder side character: 3 (Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong, Titans, Birds of Prey)
* Amazons Attack does have Mary Marvel from the Shazam! comics as central character, but the other 3 main characters are Amazons and it is about a Wonder Woman plot line so it counts as a WW main character & solo series
THE FLASH Family/Rogue series: total 7
Flash main character: 3 (Jay Garrick: The Flash, Speed Force, The Flash)
Flash side character: 4 (Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong, Titans, Justice Society of America, Suicide Squad: Kill Arkham Asylum)
GREEN LANTERN Family/Rogue series: total 6
Lantern main character: 4 (Alan Scott: The Green Lantern, Green Lantern: War Journal, Green Lantern, Sinister Sons)
Lantern side character: 2 (Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong, Justice Society of America)
* varies from earlier breakdown graph as I am counting Sinister Sons in the main character section rather than crossover. Sinestro's son is one of the two protagonists.
OTHER Family/Rogue series: total 15
Other main/side characters: 12 (Blue Beetle, John Constantine, Hellblazer: Dead in America, Green Arrow, Shazam!, Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong, Amazons Attack, Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Titans, Justice Society of America, Birds of Prey, Suicide Squad: Dream Team, Suicide Squad: Kill Arkham Asylum)
Misc: 3 (Looney Tunes, Mad, Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?)
----
Yup yup!

In case it seems like every third comic has Batman in it... you're not wrong. He's been in 38.6% of DC issues since 2020, with a stark increase of 8% each decade since the 90s and surpassing Superman in popularity. Despite this, there's been a massive drop off of comics where he is teamed up with Superman or a Robin (although the amount of group team ups between Batman Family members has increased, as well as Nightwing solos).

vaggie leaves for the afternoon and comes back to find
charlie- covered in notes written in permanent marker
the walls - covered graph paper
the floor - also covered in graph paper
the graph paper - covered in even more sticky notes
angel dust - lounging on a couch enjoying a drink
Vaggie: "I thought you said you'd watch her."
Angel Dust: "And I AM watchin' her." (sips drink loudly through a party straw) "Your girlfriend's a mess when you're not here, by the way."
Charlie: "VAGGIE YOU'RE BACK oh thank fuck I've had SO many thoughts while you gone and I've tried SO MANY different ways not to forget them before I've told them to you!!!" (grabs vaggie's hand and drags her over) "Look, see? If we start on the bottom left corner of the room and follow my train of thought up the nearest bookshelf-"

I’ve always headcannoned that elves look somewhat “uncanny” to humans. Like maybe at first glance an elf might just seem very beautiful, but as you take a closer look you can notice their facial structures are almost TOO anatomically correct, TOO symmetrical, their eyes a bit TOO big, their skin TOO perfect, their hair STRANGELY shiny, their posture WEIRDLY straight. So close to human but just slightly….. off.

"uwu be nice to men they're so sad" does anyone remember the centuries and millennia when it was illegal to not be nice to men like institutionally, punishable by death, and they did not respond with better politics or behavior or less violent crime or fewer family annihilations, rapes, infanticides, regular normal homicides, serial killing, child molestation, etc. does anyone remember that. i think it was written down somewhere if you don't remember.

I AM NOW THE PROUD OWNER OF A 400-PAGE LONG BOOK OF ACADEMIC ANALYSIS ABOUT MDZS (both the novel and CQL, as well as the wider danmei sphere, internet authorship, fan reactions in both CN and non-CN spheres, and so many more interesting things – there are photos of the contents list below) >:DDDD
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I only got it this afternoon so have only read the (quite long?) excerpt available online and pages I came across while flipping through, but everything I've read so far is really interesting and well-written. If you're interested, it's promoted on the blog of @pumpkinpaix, where there are also chapter spotlights with comments from authors of each paper/chapter about them and about MDZS in general (which is how I found out about it, one came up in tumblr's 'based on this tag you follow...' recommendation), as well as FAQs (including where to buy it, though I did link that at the start). Alternatively, all posts about it are in the tag #catching chen qing ling!
I really recommend it, especially if content about MDZS interests you! and I promise I haven't been told to advertise this it's just something so so cool... a collection of academic work about MY FAVOURITE BOOK... and I know people do follow me for meta/analysis so this might be the sort of thing people looking at this blog will be interested in..?

Who says the episode title phrases in each episode of Wolf 359?
I've created a spreadsheet to show which character says the episode title phrase (i.e. the words which form the name of that particular episode) in every episode of Wolf 359. Graphs summarising this data can be found below, but to look at the full spreadsheet in all its glory, and see the progression through the series, you can follow this link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1cQLkhxbDAItU6rdiUAYGn54FXXxYC-JXlCmP_Dqe9FA/
(Please note: I’ve focused here on which character first speaks the exact title phrase within the episode itself. In some cases, this is not the only - or the most significant - time that the title phrase is spoken.)
EDIT: This post previously stated incorrectly that "the devil's plaything" is not said in Ep57. In fact, it is said by Pryce (through Minkowski). Thank you to @yaghoulghosty for pointing this out!

OUAT S1E19 - A word in the hallway please - or Emma shines through
For being such a Rumple-centric episode, this one made our ladies shine through.
There is the iconic "I'll wait here seated on your desk" scene that I don't think anyone can see and forget.
But I also liked how Emma is her own "I take no shit from no one" self. The way she commands "A word in the hallway"!!! And Regina follows, but she is still her cocky self and does her power walk there (and sure it's a walk!!)
But then again Emma waits for her and takes that stance, squaring her shoulders, jutting her elbows with her hands in her front pockets, and then makes her speech and when Regina tries to be her cocky self again ("Am I?") she just shush her ... I repeat - she shush Regina Mills.

I think when people conceptualize pain and disability, what they think of is something like this:
Tumblr media
It's conceptualized as something you are cured from, that pain can be only temporary, and you will one day "get better."
In reality, it's something more like this:
Tumblr media
Pain is often non-linear in nature. When you see somebody in low-pain days, weeks, or perhaps longer, that doesn't mean that they have "healed." Not all pain is curable, and the idea that it is is only hurting people who experience pain. Yes, it is uncomfortable to imagine that we might not be able to heal, that we might, in fact, become disabled by pain that will never heal. But running from this possibility is not the solution.

It's incredible that this book is genuinely 10% "here is the most stereotypical, conspiratorial, populist leftist you could imagine. Here is how he, who is, very clearly, literally someone you would find on Tumblr, and his knee-jerk anticapitalism resulted in destroying something clearly viable and damning the scant remnants of humanity to 10,000 years of hellish bone warfare" and at no point did it seem to have caused a single bit of reflection for anyone. Like, "eat the rich" is very much the exact sentiment that led to the shitshow that is the TLT universe, and y'all will still say it unquestioningly.
