my favorite thing about mc and satan's dynamic is both the serious and silly ways they deal with anger. on one hand, there's discussion of how to healthily express anger, and how doing so isn't always a bad thing, even if it's in a "negative" way.
and on the other hand it's "hey im pissed and i want to burn a house down can you help-" "my love for you greater than the amount of stars in the sky. of course i will :)"

could fern leaf be a former park cat or something that clear sky sends to spy on tall shadow & then defects? or, since she’s important to the rescue of star flower in the books, maybe she could be involved with one-eye somehow…? even though star flower is totally different now, so she doesn’t really Need rescuing from any situation she’s in that you’ve talked about so far. guess it depends on which aspects of the character best serve the story, and whether she would work better as part of DOTC proper or thunder’s SE
i also genuinely can’t remember if bb!clear sky’s original M.O. for his group is Tribe Cats Only, or if he is willing to take in anyone who kisses his ass enough. could make sense if fern leaf (or more accurately, any tom willing to vouch for her) appeals to clear sky enough. hell, maybe she could be a mole on one-eye’s behalf instead?

The new rub to the formation of the groups in BB is that there is two distinct cultures in the forest: Park Cats and Tribe Cats. They're divided by a language barrier, with the Park Cats speaking Parkmew and the Tribe cats speaking what we now call Old Tribemew.
So Clear Sky doesn't have the same "options" like canon. These ""rogues"" don't speak his language and he simply would not learn even if the chance was offered to him. It doesn't even really cross his mind that these are full people to reach out to; in his mind they're intruders. The flavor of bigotry in the modern era hasn't quite evolved yet, so he has the most straightforward kind of xenophobia you can imagine.
He only starts changing his mind after the First Battle, after his revelation, when he's back on his bullshit in Thunderstar's Justice. In my head it's kind of like... a mockery of Thunder Storm's way of life, that allowed him to live in defiance of him for so long. "See, now I do what you do. Since Gray Wing approved of you so much." kinda thing
There's two park cat groups; The River Kingdom, and The Wind Coalition.
The first conflict the Sun Trail Pioneers run into is with WindCo up on the moor, who chases them down into the forest! The Park cats who lived in the forest weren't united, just various individuals that had little "homestead" territories.
The conflicts with them start after the Shadow/Sky split that follows the death of Jagged Peak. Shadow's Clan moved eastward into the caves at Snakerocks, where no one bothered them, but Sky's Clan started getting hostile towards the little homesteads and pushing cats westward, back to the River Kingdom.
SO with that recap out of the way...
I have two and a half-ish cats already that I'm heavily interested in using to turn on Clear Sky for Thunder's Clan. So I'm not sure how to slot Fern Leaf in there.
1: Snake. Snake is the only cat in-canon who said that maybe Clear Sky shouldn't be their leader after letting One Eye into the Clan against all warnings, and then he gets DOGPILED for it, and the very next book shoves him into the arms of Slash to undermine the fact that they accidentally gave him a good fucking point.
I'm RIDICULOUSLY fond of him because of this. I love him out of spite. I've spoken before about how I plan for him to be a Tribe-descended cat, and a lot of that is because I want to keep his goon roles serving Clear Sky. One of which is that he is going to badly injure Sunlit Frost in the First Battle.
So thinking about it... it makes the most sense for Snake to turn on Clear Sky in Thunderstar's Justice. Still unsure when. But if I have any roles where a cat needs to get help, stop a battle, or call Clear Sky out for making a really bad decision, it's gotta be him.
I'll keep him in my hand for a while; this feels like a piece that will fall into place.
I'm also unsure of what family he's going into. I keep waffling on it. I'm leaning towards the Claw family and possibly the son of Fox, since he's going to be living a bit longer. He's going to be about the same age as Thunder Storm, maybe a bit older.
2: Red Claw Since Acorn Fur is now Acorn Swoop, and she's not nonsensically going to go join the guy who killed both of her parents because it would be too sad to go home where they're not alive, her love interest has to end up in Thunder's Clan.
I'm already pretty committed to making Petal into Petal Claw and Fox into Fox Claw, so it follows that Red Claw would be in the family. Thinking about it, maybe Red should be the son of Fox instead...
Especially because he could defect earlier. Moth Flight's Vision is totally overhauled anyway and I'm planning to shift a lot of the original plot to something for another character anyway...
Plus, enemies-to-lovers is fun and I haven't really had a chance to do it yet. Acorn Swoop is absolutely the kind of punk who would nab one of her worst enemy's best soldiers, and the type of nerd who would frame it like her biggest catch yet.

And most relevantly... this is leaving Fern Leaf's backstory up in the air. Him leading a dog pack into the heart of camp and getting Beech and Frog killed is what kicked off the Bunny Bones plot of the original MFV that I like so much, and I feel like it's an important part of Fern Leaf.
So not only am I here planning Red Claw as a high priority for being someone to turn against Clear Sky, but also, he complicates Fern Leaf a bit.
Maybe I should step back a bit on the two and start from scratch with them, and replace their backstories with new ones that preserve the "emotional core." I'll have to think about it.
That 1/2 Cat: Alder or Birch The kits that are stolen from Misty, that queen who was murdered by Clear Sky and whose kits are given to Petal. In BB, that's something I want to examine for how fucked up it is. It becomes the basis of Kit Stealing later, an awful practice that the Clans will struggle with for many generations.
These ones are SUPER important, but I say 1/2 because it doesn't have to be Thunder's Clan they turn for. But I do want one of them to eventually learn their origin, and end up finding their family in River Kingdom or the Wind Coalition.
I mention them because I keep going back and forth on if they're going to get combined with other characters. Basically imagine me next to a big conspiracy chart and I'm connecting a big red line between possible plot threads back to Fern Leaf. Maybe her? Maybe she can be one of the stolen kits?
I could even make it so Birch is actually an older sibling, or a half-sibling, or one from the same litter who was saved... maybe even end up making it a litter of 4. Slots in well with her canon story, too, where she mentions her mother abandoned her.
The truth can be that it was a lie. Her mother didn't abandon her. One of them was murdered and the other was chased off.
And, of course, I could save her to be a "One Eye Cultist." None of my drafts so far have brought in any extra followers of One Eye who will follow him from place-to-place besides Star Flower herself. I would like to add some, and that's a fine place for Fern Leaf, but somehow I feel like I can do her better.

I like how even Stray Cat Rock is subtly political and feminist.
I'm watching SCR: Sex Hunter right now. You compare this to similar Western girl gang films like Switchblade Sisters (which was objectively fucking awful, incidentally) and the complexity blows the Western shit out of the water.
It would have been so easy to make the conflict just about race and jingoism. That could have been the only motivation, and it wouldn't have been off-brand for an exploitation flick. But the root of the animosity isn't random intolerance, it's war crimes perpetrated by American soldiers.
It would have been easy to have the girls lean into the "protection" shit. It wouldn't have made sense, but it would have been easy. The West does it all the time.
Wild, independent girls aren't really wild or independent; they just haven't found bad boys bad enough to fuck them and direct their machismo toward less desirable bad boys in their name yet. Once they find them, they'll forget sisterhood and catfight to the death over said males.
But Mako - who also possesses a Murderhat, which I love - protects her girls "her way,*" chooses them over any and all boys, be they bad or just morally grey. Chooses them with the intent to submit to their judgment for her mistake. And once they've vented their anger, she lets them decide whether or not to make peace, even over the defensive loyalty of her lieutenant.
And in the end, the girls all choose each other. They don't ever side entirely with men, they just choose which men to let in based on their intention toward the girls. Once selected, their men are the beneficiaries and objects of the girls' protection, and it's the girls who take revenge when the narrative demands that it be insufficient, not the other way around.
I just. Wow.

Ik I’m just tooting my own horn here (sidenote: can we PLEASE talk about this saying. Why is it like that?) but holy shit my writing. I love how it goes from one character seeing a stray cat and being like ‘free cat’ and takes this feral fluffy creature into his home to massive destruction and trauma in like three pages.

Inspired by this post by @purgatory606 because after seeing that, I wanted to talk about DBDA weapons/fighting styles of characters. Well Charles and partially Edwin here, I might also analyze Crystal and Esther in another post.
I'd like to start from the scene from the first episode where Charles is trying to teach Edwin self defense and he chooses boxing. Which is quite interesting, if a bit odd choice.
He gives Edwin boxing gloves, and then required him to his his palms, albeit protected, but still. Such an odd choice? Without anger or adrenaline from the fight, most people find it quite difficult to hit something-or someone particularly hard. Doubly so when a person holding a target you should be hitting is someone you care for. It's difficult to override your naturally instinct to pull your punch back, which is what I think happens to Edwin. Especially because he generally isn't someone who leans into violence, even in situations where it would be warranted.
I think we can presume Charles was either teaching Edwin how to fight in case he finds himself weaponless, given he doesn't have an infinite backpack, or he was judging by his own instict, not seeing how Edwin wouldn't want to use brutal force. If anything, Edwin would likely do better with a more precise, long range weapon. Like a sword, or a bow.
But I am getting ahead of myself. Let's look at Charles' weapons of choice and how he utilizes them. Throughout the s1, we see him use a cricket bat, a music box(?), a molotov cocktail and a sword.
Cricket bat is his preferred weapon of choice and as the og post said, bats are for pure, raw pain. Traditionally there is not much elegance or finesse with it. You use a bat when you want to inflict the most amount of hurt in the shortest and most brutal way possible. What I find interesting is the way Charles wields it, which he does in a way that is almost elegant.
We see him twirl it on several ocassions and while he does hold it in a way that one would expect would inflict most damage, I am not sure we ever see him use it that way? Esther knocks him down with her cane before he can, he doesn't actually get to use in on the Cat King, he beats up the Night Nurse with a music box, not his bat, he breaks David's mirrors in a way that he actually sends the bat flying, not actively smashing mirrors with brute force like one would expect. And when he faces Esther's snake, his bat breaks.
What does that tell us about Charles? I think his bat actually reflects him quite a bit. Both how he sees himself, and how people who don'tknow him well do. So many people make a mistake of writing his off as just the brawn, of someone only there to deliver lethal sort of damage. Even Charles himself seems to sometimes think of himself that way. Of someone capable of great violence. Because he thinks that's simoly what he is. A bat cannot be used for anything else but direct damage.
Except....Charles finds a way. His attacks may be brutal, but they are very precise as we saw in David scene. And even when we consider other insance when he used different weapons, thr only time his blow didn't land as expected was against Esther in episode one.
The attack against the Night Nurse was brutal amd seemingly uncontrolled, but he got the job done precisely the way he intended? He didn't kick her around mindlessly, he kicked her off the cliff to get rid of her and the sea monster they were trying to lull to sleep. It was violent yes, but he was still very aware of what he was doing.
Throwing the molotov cocktail at the Dollheaded Spider? Also very calculated to allow him and Edwin time to run. Hiss fight against the snake? Once he concluded brutal force of his bat wasn't working, he choose a very precise and deadly weapon instead. And used it perfectly, in quite an elegant move, too!
In conclusion, I think Charles' weapon of choice has more to do with his perception of self rather than his actual realities or abilities. Which I think is why we get a scene of the bat breaking in the last episode and have it replaced with a sword! His perception of self changed from a weapon more used for it's brutal force to a weapon more commonly associated with knights and heroes. I'd be very curious to see if the bat returns to s2 and how it'll be utilized

Hello, in honor of your JayTimRoy post, I bring you the idea of Jason and Tim interacting like two feral cats in the same space, constantly sniping at each other or getting in each other's way, stealing each other's stuff (clothes) and cases, pranks that are deeply concerning to everyone involved (Jason shooting in Tim's direction with real bullets and shooting him with rubber ones and Tim hacking Jason's helmet and making it 'lightly' tazer him sometimes), stalking each other and regularly complaining about each other, just clinically incapable of leaving each other the fuck alone.
With Roy in the middle, able to interact with both of them completely normally. Tim is a weird kid, sure, but he's brilliant and good with tech and planning and contingencies, and if Roy calls him up for help on something Tim is there for him no questions asked. He's also weirdly sweet, like yeah he's a stalker but he uses it to send Roy his favorite foods and drinks when he's feeling down, or keeps an eye on Lian for Roy and sends him initially creepy but reassuring updates about where she is at all hours of the day.
(Tim DOES understand boundaries, honestly, and he doesn't literally watch Lian 24/7, but if she's at school or daycare or with someone else, Tim usually has eyes on her just in case. There's probably been a few kidnapping attempts that barely got off the ground before Roy or Jason were notified, or Tim just showed up himself if they weren't close enough.)
Jason is Roy's best friend and yeah he's rough around the edges and has his issues, but he's loyal to a fault and deeply protective. Like he'll bitch about Roy being an idiot and getting into trouble but always while he's patching him up and making him food and tucking him into bed and forcing him to rest and recover.
So Roy can see that Jason and Tim's animosity and weirdness for each other does not come from hate or dislike but from a deep feral NEED for each other, they are just completely incapable of being normal about each other. He can ALSO see that they are both completely unaware of it in themselves, like completely blind to the fact that for all their hissing and spitting and fucking with each other, they have every opportunity to just... NOT interact much, they COULD just leave each other alone, but even suggesting that makes them both glitch out because what? Leave each other alone?? Impossible.
And much as Roy would like them to figure it out themselves (and maybe chill, a little bit) he likes them both, they both like him, and he would like for the three of them to have a movie night in or go out to dinner together or go to the park with Lian sometimes without the two of them starting to bite each other.
And for as smart as Roy is and as good at planning as he is, he leans more towards Jason's "apply molotov cocktail to problem" brand of planning over Tim's "4D psychological chess with seventeen built-in contingencies" brand of planning (which to him is all the more reason Tim should join Team Red, because honestly they could use that level of planning and consideration for their missions. you can only throw so many molotovs at a problem before your problem is 'too much fire' at which point the molotov does NOT help)
So Roy invites Tim over ostensibly to help him design new weapons, confirms Tim is interested, and then bends him over the work table (once the explosives are cleared off) and fucks him nice and relaxed and stupid, then cleans him up just enough before depositing him on the couch and calling Jason home. When Jason comes home and sees Tim, naked except for one of HIS hoodies with clear bite marks on one side of his neck, and Roy wearing some loose sweatpants and no shirt, his brain glitches out long enough for Roy to say "he's still pretty relaxed from when I fucked him, you wanna take round two or can I go again?"
(He MAYBE could have introduced the idea a little more delicately, and admittedly he DID have to chaperone their first few times to smooth out the misunderstandings (things like Tim wants/needs to be held down and made to submit a little and Jason is terrified of pushing past someone's boundaries but also needs to bite Tim, hold down and SHAKE), but it all worked out in the end. He gets them to chill out enough that they can go on normal dates, and on movie nights Roy gets Jason as the perfect body pillow and Tim as the perfect weighted blanket and it rules.)
Roy is living his best life with his two feral boyfriends and really only has to hide from Batman that he's fucking two of his proteges since the rest of the Bat colony are basically like "fucking THANK YOU jesus CHRIST", because Jason and Tim are still unhinged about each other but at least they're AFFECTIONATELY unhinged now instead of constantly toeing the line of actively trying to kill each other. They work on cases together, Jason practically shoves Tim into his own (and Roy's) clothes, Tim steals Jason's tech (and Roy's) to upgrade it, they still bite and obsessively stalk each other (and Roy) but it makes them both feel reassured and loved.

you're so right, this is the exact dynamic they exude in spades. if someone didn't know them, its easy to assume that Jason and Tim do, in fact, hate each other, but Roy /does/ know Jason, and he's gotten to know Tim pretty well too from how much time he's been spending around them. so /Roy/ knows that they don't hate each other- if they hated each other, then Jason wouldn't miss when he shot at Tim, and he sure as hell wouldn't let Tim spend so much time in their safe houses, let alone the apartment Jason and Roy unofficially share in their off-time.
and if Tim truly hated Jason then he wouldn't bother with all the effort he puts in to work cases together, and he wouldn't spend so much time working to repair Jason's bonds with the other Bats. he probably still would rig up Jason's helmet to give him the occasional jolt or alter the voice modulator to make Jason sound like he just inhaled helium- just to be a little shit. but he definitely wouldn't make it so easy for Jason to fix.
Roy just gets so tired of getting caught in the middle of all of their little tiffs though, he's had to stop himself from just pointing out that Jason trying to strip Tim in the middle of their apartment because Tim stole his t-shirt isn't really "mortal enemies" behavior and clearly Jason just wants to see Tim naked. but /god/ did Roy want to point it out. especially when it happened more than once. Tim clearly doesn't realize the attraction either, because he never lets Jason catch him when they fight like that- always rushing from the apartment when Jason gets too close to pinning him. it's /probably/ a good thing, because Roy isn't sure Jason is at the point where he would know what to do once he actually catches Tim and takes the shirt off.
Roy wants to find out- wants to see Jason finally pin Tim down and strip him of all his stolen clothes and see what Jason decides to do with the bare Robin beneath him- but it hasn't happened and the longer it goes on the less patience Roy has with them.
Roy /likes/ Tim, /likes/ Jason, /likes/ seeing how they treat each other when they aren't exchanging blows (and sometimes when they are- but goddamn theres a limit to what he can take). he likes how Tim has inserted himself into their lives. Tim just /fits/ with them in ways that Roy wouldn't have guessed before he saw it himself. the way the little stalker genius helps them upgrade their equipment, the way he brainstorms with Roy about his projects, how he brainstorms with /Jason/ over cases, the way he plays with Lian is terribly heartwarming. he's stopped two kidnapping attempts with his stupid stalker tendencies, and after stopping the second one himself, Roy added Tim to the list of emergency contacts at Lian's school. he picks her up sometimes at /her/ request- and damn if that wasn't a blow the first time it happened. but Lian says Tim is funny and that he's better at coloring than Roy is.
so yeah, Roy wants Tim to stay in their lives, and he wants it to be in a calmer manner than currently because of this imagined beef with Jason due to them just being so infuriatingly obsessed with each other.
when Roy's patience finally runs out he decides to do something about it. invites Tim over under the guise of wanting a second pair of eyes on his latest weapons design project. the way Tim gives all of his focus to the project, clearly stating what he thinks should be changed and improved- it's cute how into it he is. there's something about the focus of a little genius like that- even when he's kind of dissing some of the work that Roy (who is also a genius) already put into it. Roy finds it funnier than anything else.
they finish the weapons talks and while Roy is cleaning up the work table he casually strips off his sweaty work shirt, using it to wipe his face and carefully checking Tim's line of sight and expression. bingo. Tim has a good poker face, but he's not hiding his gaze at all, eyes glued to newly exposed spanse of Roy's skin. so Roy tests his luck, shoots Tim his most charming smile, and takes him by the hips to draw him in. there's the barest moment of hesitation before Roy brushes their lips together and Tim melts into the contact.
it heats up quickly from there- a blur of touching and kissing and stripping each other until Tim is bare and bent over the work table, cheeks spread around Roy's length as he buries himself into the little bird. Roy digs his teeth into Tim's neck, sucking and biting and purposefully leaving marks because he /needs/ Jason to see the evidence later.
Tim thrusts back into his hold, meeting him thrust for thrust, until Roy makes his way up to mutter filthy words into Tim's ear, telling him how good he looks, how good he's taking it- how good it'll look to see him take Jason later and Tim /loses/ it when Jason is brought up. his noises had been soft- held back- but at just the idea of getting railed by Jason, Tim's voice ratchets up in volume and he somehow melts even further against the table, whining and rutting unevenly.
it doesn't last much longer, both of them having been building up to this for so long. and the idea of getting to go again when Jason gets home urges them on even faster. so they finish up and Roy gets Tim all cleaned up, handing over Jason's hoodie for him to wear instead of the clothes he came in with.
Roy is a little worried he broke Jason when he freezes at Roy's invitation to fuck Tim, but the animalistic noise Jason lets out when he finally moves make him realize this was probably best case scenario. it /is/ hard for Jason and Tim at first, going from having been in such denial for so long to finally having each other is a shock. and with Jason being a little scared of how roughly he wants to treat Tim- of not wanting to push /too/ far but wanting So Much from him. and with Tim not being able to just /say/ that he not only /wants/ the rough treatment from Jason, but really /needs/ it, makes it even harder on them. Roy personally thinks how lucky they are to have him there to smooth out the bumps as they start out, but then that makes him think about how lucky he is to have them in his life just the same.
he didn't expect Dick to practically /thank/ him when they finally talked after Dick found out he's been screwing both of them, but the relieved way he talks about how much easier theyve been to work with makes it easy for Roy to read between the lines.

Watched Dead Boy Detectives last night and I’m obsessed. If you like the queerness of good omens, but with more gore, and in the same universe as the Sandman (death and despair both show up) if you like dark academia gay boys, if you like ghosts, or paranormal stuff, or demons, if you like cats — lemme tell you this show is for you.
So, like, there’s these two ghost boys who are best friends but also gay for each other but also a secret third thing and their names are Edwin and Charles.
Edwin Payne was a demonic sacrifice in 1916 and as spend literal decades in hell but escaped. He’s a repressed Victorian gay who has zero charisma but every single man he meets becomes obsessed with him and wants to sleep with him except the boy he actually likes which is his best friend Charles. His entire character arc is about gay panic and getting over his internalized homophobia — he wears bow ties!!!! He doesn’t know what a hand job is. He’s literally the perfect tumblr blorbo. His superpower is getting tortured. He’s so sassy! His sexual awakening comes at the hands of a cat king and his first kiss is with a crow.
Charles died in like the 90s or something I’m not sure. He’s so optimistic and sunshine but also so full of rage. He’s the most supportive guy 100/10 would trust him with anything. He doesn’t like to talk about his issues. When confronted with the inexorable monsters of hell he solved the problem with a Molotov cocktail. I love him and his single earring he’s a golden retriever who would rather stay on earth with best friend than move on to a peaceful afterlife. His jawline is impeccable he can’t not press a big red button when he sees it.
Crystal Palace I wasn’t sold on because I thought she’d get between my boys but she actually so cool and I developed a bit of a crush let’s be honest I have a thing for curly haired witchy girls, she’s a physic with amnesia and a demon stalker ex boyfriend people stare at her when she hangs out with the boys cause it looks like she’s talking to herself. Everyone she knows thinks she’s insane. She’s a reformed mean girl.
Niko Sisaki I was a little iffy about because it felt like they were gonna go with the bimbo anime Asian girl but turns out she just had a parasite that made pink hearts float around her. She’s so weird she tries to help Edwin with his gay problem by introducing him to explicit gay fan fiction, she tries to get her landlord to date, she likes cool rocks. She has two tiny people trapped in a jar in her room. Her friendship with Edwin is everything. She’s ghosting her mom.
Jenny. I love her so much, she feels so safe which is weird because she chops meat and all her clothes are covered in blood. Everything about just screams big sister and her character arc is learning to embrace that. She goes on one date and almost gets murdered.
Monty. He’s literally a crow turned into a boy. He’s down bad for Edwin. He’s a secret honeypot agent for an evil witch. He has the most adorable smile, the whole time I was expecting him to be an agent of Morpheus. He’s obsessed with astrology.
The Night nurse originally annoyed me a bit (in a good way) I just wanted to get rid of her. When Charles punted her into a giant sea monster I clapped. Then it just got weird and I love it.
The cat king. He’s such a creep, but honestly, I love that for him. He has some of the best lines and he just exudes cat. He’s a classic fairy tale trickster, he a nuisance for the whole season, he’s central to the plot, he’s constantly hitting on Edwin.
Esther. She’s a archetypal evil witch. She gives off mystic trash vibes. She’s obsessed with beauty and revenge. She’s shamelessly horrible. She feeds kids to her giant snake. She literally can’t die.
All in all, I think I’m gonna have brain rot over this for the next year, go and watch it.

Fic Summary: Snow has never known who she was. Being raised in the streets made her strong but lonely. That changed when she met Jack them becoming as close as sisters. She thought she found her family. That all changes when she crashes on a planet with only one rule. Stay in the light.

Part 1 Part 7
Knowing that light hurts the beasts trying to hurt us, everyone quickly takes inventory of everything that makes light.
Despite how bad it looked or not caring how it looked I stuck close to Riddick. He kept me alive more than once today.
Plus I felt calmer around him. More myself. More in control. Something about being next to a man you knew could handle anything that got thrown at him.
So I stood next to him as I stood around the burning cutting torch trying to figure out a plan.
“So we got one cutting torch, we got two hand lights. There’s gotta be something we can rip out of the crash ship.”
“Spirts.” Paris says leaning forward to fan himself.
I was humid and stuffy in this room but it was better than being eaten alive.
“Anything over 45 proof burns rather well.”
“Mmm molotovs my favorite.” I say earning a snort from Jack.
I wink at her and smile. 
“Look, it's better than nothing.” Johns says, glaring at me.
“It was a joke.” I say, lifting my hands up.
I don’t even react as I feel the warm body heat behind me. Johns eyes bouncing to the figure behind me told me who it was.
I don’t know what I did to have the killer of the group be my bodyguard but I would take it. 
“How many bottles you got?” Carolyn asks, getting us in order once again.
“I don’t know, maybe ten.”
“Okay.” She says, nodding and looking over at Johns.
“Johns you got some flares.”
“So, maybe we got enough light.” She says, nodding.
“Enough for fucking what?” Johns asks.
“How thick are you? Do you wanna tell him or should I?” I ask, looking at Johns then Carolyn.
She holds her hand up as to tell me to shut up or she has this.
“We stick to the plan. We get the four cells back to the skiff, we’re off this rock.” 
“Look I hate to ruin a beautiful theory with an ugly fact.” Paris says standing up.
“But that sand cat is solar. It won't run at night.” He says walking over to Carolyn.
“So we carry the cells. We drag them whatever it takes.”
“You mean tonight with all those things out there?” Jack asks, holding onto her legs rocking back and forth. She was scared but doing a great job of holding it in.
I move to sit next to her wrapping my arms around her.
“It’s better to go now then wait them out. We don’t know how long the eclipse is going to last.” I say gently rubbing her back.
“Alright, how long can this thing last?” Johns asks, making me bite my tongue from starting something with him. That wouldn’t help us survive.
“A few hours? A day tops?” He says, very matter of fact.
I clench my jaw ready to shut up but decide against it.
“Didn’t we have this conversation a few hours ago? These people wouldn’t have left everything they own or the ship for that matter if they only had to deal with these things for a few hours or a day tops.” I say spitting the last word.
“I had the impression from the model the two planets were moving as one and there would be a lasting darkness.” Imam says looking at Johns.
“Thank you.” I say, holding my hand out towards Imam.
“Maybe you can only understand men.” I say earning a glare but he doesn't respond to me.
“Mmm.. These suns gotta come up sometime. And if these creatures are phonic about light then we just sit tight and we let the sun come up.” He says, meeting my gaze, the look on his face like he figured it out.
“Okay, where is the water we are going to drink? Or food or oh yeah we’ll probably freeze because deserts get cold at night time and a few days without sun will most likely kill us. If the lack of water and food doesn't. That’s if I put up with you that long.” I say, clenching my jaw.
“Why you little-.” Johns says starting to stand up. 
“Okay enough.” Carolyn says stepping in the middle of the room blocking our line of sight from each other.
“I’m sure somebody else said the same thing, locked inside that coring room.” 
“We need to think about everybody now. Especially the kid.” He says pointing at all of us.
“How scared is this poor boy gonna be out there in the dark.”
“Oh don’t you bring him into this.” I say, clenching my jaw and standing up. 
 “Yeah, don't use him like that.” Carolyn says.
“Like what?” Johns asks, looking disgusted.
“As a smoke screen.” Carolyn says at the same time I speak.
“As a shield.” 
“You deal with your own fear.”
“Yeah it’s okay to be scared Johns.”
“Why don’t you shut your fucking mouth for two seconds and let me come up with a plan that dosn’t involve mass suicide.”
“You came up with one. It's sitting here waiting for the lights to go out so those things can eat us.” I say, the sounds of the creatures outside whaling making me take a breath.
Them clearly hearing us.
Breathing the breath out slowly I move to sit back next to Jack, wrapping my arm around her.
“I’m waiting.” Carolyn says, making me smirk.
I may have to change my mind about her after all.
“How much you weigh Johns?”
“What’s it matter Carolyn?” 
“How much?” She snaps back.
“Around seventy nine kilos.”
“Because you’re seventy nine kilos of gutless white meat.��
“And that’s why you can’t think of a better plan and you want to use Jack as an excuse.” I say joining in.
“Is that fucking right?” He says jumping up, snatching his gun out as he does. 
I don’t flinch.
I watch Riddick stand up stepping in front of him, blocking him from getting to any of us.
“Where are you going?” Johns asks, pressing the barrel of the gun into RIddick’s chin.
I have to stop myself from standing up. The anger I have towards Johns is starting to get to its boiling point. I wanted to hurt him but that would help any of us get out of this.
“This solves nothing.” Imam says, as if he was reading my thoughts.
I watch Riddick smirk, him lifting his goggles and looking over at Johns as the sound of tapping fills the air.
My eyes dropped to the sound seeing a homemade blade right on John’s crotch.
“Okay.” Johns says taking a step and sitting back down.
I couldn’t tell if he was smirking or giving him a fake smile. The look on Johns face creeping me out either way.
My head snaps to the right when Carolyn moves to crouch next to me and Jack.
“They’re afraid of our light. That means we don’t have to be so afraid of them.” She says calmly. Her eyes lifted up to meet mine.
I smile at her then down at Jack.
“You know I will make sure you are safe.” I say, rubbing her back. Jack nods, looking nervous but less scared.
“And you are sure you can get us there? Even in the dark?” Iman asks, looking over at us.
“No I can’t.” She says standing up.
“But he can.” She says looking over at Riddick.
I look up at him, his goggles still off him turning to look over his shoulder at her, the light hitting his face just right to show the silver shine in his eyes.
“That’s the smartest thing you said all day.” I say looking up at her.
She nods and bends down picking up the torch.
“Come on, I have an idea.”
Carolyn leads us back to the entrance of the ship. She uses the torch to shine under the ship in case there are any creatures hiding.
Sticking close together everyone starts to head out following her.
I’m stopped when a large hand grabs my wrist. Looking up over my shoulder I meet the face of Riddick.
Us being swallowed by darkness as the others leave out ahead of us.
“You know not everyone is gonna make it out of here.” He says, his low rubbing voice settling around me. It almost reminds me of the way a cat purrs. Something animal about it.
“Then let's make sure you, me, and Jack are on the list of the ones that do.”
“Is that all you care about?” He asks, sounding like a loaded question which I was trying not to read into.
“Honestly? Yes.”
He smirks, letting go of my wrist and heading towards the door. I stay close to him. The group of us stayed quiet as we walked outside up to the other side of the crashed ship.
“Riddick.” Carolyn whispers it is too risky for us to keep moving forward.
Riddick slides past me, his hand brushing my lower back as he does. I’m shocked by the shiver it shoots up my spine.
He walks to the front of the group, slipping his goggles up to look inside.
“Looks clear.” He calls back.
Johns pushes past me practically shoving me over as he sneaks up next to Riddick, gun in hand. Him having a light on the end of it.
I have to bite my lip to keep from snatching it out of his hand and beating him with it. Thoughts of stabbing him in his sleep enter my mind.
As soon as Johns light shines into the ship a monster comes jumping out towards them screeching.
Riddick drops to the ground, out of the way while Johns jumps to the right landing on his back.
The creature flies over our head away from the light. All of us ducking down. Jack’s grip on my hand tightening.
“You said"clear "." Johns says looking up at Riddick him slightly down a slope.
“I said it looks clear.” Riddick says back, making me smile at the sass.
“Well what’s it look like now?” He asks.
Riddick raises his head taking a quick glance before turning to look back shrugging.
“Looks clear.” He says, making me snort a giggle.
Everyone turned to look at me in a shocked horror.
“I’m sorry that wasn’t meant to be funny, I know.” I say, as Riddick and Johns get up.
Johns casually walked into the ship, everyone following behind. Jack rushed ahead to stay close to Carolyn’s light.
Riddick doesn't move until I reach his side.
“I’m sorry I didn’t mean to laugh. I think the exhaustion is finally catching up to me.” I say, feeling heat rise up my cheeks.
Riddick doesn't answer him, lifting a hand to grab my chin. I don’t speak as he moves my head to the left and the right, most likely looking at the bruises there.
Taking a shaky breath I let it out as his touch fell from my face, my skin almost burning from where he touched it.
“I thought I smelt blood.” He says, I almost feel like more to himself than me. But he didn’t seem like the type to talk to himself.
“Is my lip bleeding?” I question reaching up to touch my lip.
“Must have been something else.” He says, turning towards the ship, the clicking sound of the creatures starting to grow louder.
“We need to leave.” He says.
I nod following him into the ship.
