fashav/hekarro is such a rare pair but it just won't let me go! Like!
“I think that if you were fortunate enough to meet him, as I was, you would find that he only wants the best for his people,” said Fashav.
The phrase "fortunate enough" is so loaded, like. As in, fortunate enough to be:
a. captured and imprisoned;
b. forced to think creatively to save his own skin, leading to;
c. a deadly battle against a machine and a man (his Kulrut), leading to;
d. obligation of service to the Tenakth Chief as a Marshal, a position where most people hate him because he's Carja (can't blame them, tbh),
and dude considers it all worth it because it meant he got to know him; it meant they became friends.
and according to his entry "The Arena," recounting his Kulrut, he writes, "At the time, I couldn't be sure why Hekarro allowed me to partake in the trial. I hoped that the Chief was obliged to let me enter, but instead he seemed merely intrigued." He also tells Aloy, "evidently, he appreciated my ingenuity." So, Fashav survived in part because Hekarro was not obliged, but intrigued?
and when I consider how Hekarro had come to trust Fashav enough to send him home to "be my voice in Meridian," as in, speak on his behalf
like, it's bread crumbs of canon and tons of extrapolation but the loyalty, the friendship, the understanding, the potential.

Fish!
The fish like to have a little drink :) Sadly as they drink the water around them they also drink their own pee, and that is the curse that they will have to live with for the rest of their life

Say what you want about fishblr updates, but I think this format for reblubs is a wonderful improvement over the previous one. One of the only times staff did good.
🐚 seashell-on-the-seashore
@featherstar53 If reblub chains got too long, new reblubs would start appearing as darker and darker until you couldnt see the text anymore. It mimicked how light disappears as you go deeper in the ocean but the sunken code this webbedsite runs on never set a cap for how dark it gets, so eventually you would have to copy ad paste the text on the reblubs onto somewhere to read them.
🐍 swamplamprey follow
It sounds fake but it's true! You can still find some older fishblr post screenshots with this effect:
This even went for full abyssal mode users! In their case, the text would slowly turn from white to dark blue, effectively making it impossible to read against the black background.
🦞 fastest-claw-in-the-west follow
I think it would be super funny if they brought this back but for individual posts. Like the reblubs stay the same colour but the posts themselves get gradually and gradually darker until you can't see them anymore lol. It would be disastrous but also funny and it might finally stop some of you frys from being so addicted to this webbedsite

You really dont know a thing about natural selection, do you? Bettas have flashy fins because they have to seem threatening to possible competitors. They don't migrate so they aren't built for that. They're built for living in ponds and marshes, low oxygen environments, and by cod, they are built for fighting territorial battles! You shouldn't underestimate a fish literally called fighting fish. They're very tough and hardy fish and can even send larger fish fleeing!

Wait, how come this site is called fishblr and not something like oceanblr or aquablr? Wouldn't that be more inclusive?
👑 goldielocks follow
I believe the name "fishblr" pays homage to the meaning of the word where just about everything in the water was considered a fish. It's why we have words like "shellfish", "whalefish", "jellyfish", "starfish".
Personally aquablr would work really well, too. There's a sizeable amphibious userbase on here.
🦐 worldwideshrimp follow
You forgot whale shark! Those arent fish either but are called fish
👑 goldielocks
....Whale sharks are fish. They are sharks. It's in the name.
🦎 eye-of-newt follow
But I thought it was a whale named after sharks? WHALE shark! Why else would they put whale up first?
👑 goldielocks
A whale named after a shark would be called a shark whale. You can take one look at a whale shark and see that, with its gills and fish tail, it is a shark.
⚪️ number1-seacucumber-ass-enjoyer-77 follow
Wait, then what about baby whales? Are those whales named after babies?
👑 goldielocks
If you're talking about the actual whale babies, then yeah. If you mean the mormyrids, small aquatic animals that can sense electricity, then no, those are fish. Sometimes names are inaccurate to what the animal really is.
🌌 themanta1234 follow
If you think about it, fishblr is also inclusive to aquatic tetrapods since they are lobe-fins, and therefore fish :D It's a term that can include everyone on here, the perfect catchall!
🦑 abyssal-gigantism follow
Ewwww fuck that definition. If mammals hear about them being fish on some sort of """"technicality"""" then this webbedsite is gonna get flooded with those self-important idiots! “Harpole” Necklace,
A 7th century burial discovered in the Northamptonshire village of Harpole contains a gold and gemstone necklace that is the richest ever discovered from the period.
The necklace turned out to be part of the bed burial of a high-status individual who had died between 630 and 670 A.D. The bones have long since disintegrated, but the necklace is evidence that the deceased was female, as is the bed burial itself, a funerary practice almost exclusively reserved for elite women in the Saxon period. She was not wearing the necklace when she was buried. It was placed next to her on the bed.
Few of these burial sites date back earlier than the 7th century AD, when burials of high-status men were more common, and as Christianity took root, later graves rarely featured valuable objects because being buried with ornate jewelry, such as the necklace, was frowned upon by the early Christian Church, said Lyn Blackmore, a senior finds specialist at MOLA.
The woman buried in this exceptional grave was a leader in an early Christian community during the short transitional period between pagan burials with all their grave goods and the burials of established Christianity which explicitly eschewed grave goods. She was wealthy and powerful, likely born to a prominent family and held an important religious position like an abbess.

tell me about the sunfish
OH BOY DO YOU KNOW HWAT YOU HAVE DONE??? HERE I GO:
(IDs in alt text.)
So there's this family of fish called molidae, yeah? and in molidae there's three families, Mola, Masturus, and Ranzania, and five species.
All of them have weirdo tails, in that their tails are like, gone. Their caudal fin is very stunted and used like a rudder, while anal and dorsal are used to propel. See below.
That's a Mola alexandrini and Mola tecta (drawn by yours truely), aka gian sunfish and hoodwinker sunfish! Molidae start their life as teeny tiny larva only a few cells large, and only a few of the thousands eggs released make it to adulthood. Molas are also the largest boney fish. The largest recorded Mola is M. alexandrini, with the most recent record breaker being about 11 feet long and weighing 6,000 lbs. Thats about 3.4 meters & 2700 kg! !!! WILD.
Despite being ginormous, Molidae as a whole are actually really low in nutritional value. See, the fish of Molidea's diet is soft squishy low calorie things they can inhale. They inhale because they can't close their mouths; they're always open, looking extremely surprised. So they eat things like jellyfish, zooplankton, and squid.
And how they go about eating is really cool, too. All the genus Mola dives thousands of feet in the ocean! Durring the day, most of their prey is down there due to the "diurnal vertical migration"--zooplankton travel up at night and down durring the day. Mola's eyesight isn't the best, so they dive durring the day to have better light.
Funny thing is, they don't have swim bladders. How do they move through the changing pressure? Their bone's and flesh just happen to be about the same density as water, so they just hang out wherever they stop swimming.
Another funny thing, Molidae are cold blooded. And the ocean is cold! this limits how long they can dive for. Older, larger adults can dive for much longer than smaller ones. Regardless, when they come up they have to warm up again, which they do by lying parallel and sunning themselves. Which where the Mola mola's common name comes from! Ocean Sunfish!
The larvea don't sun themselves, though, because they are not the same shape as all. Observe the bean!
The larvae try their best to survive, but most of them die. Thats why Molidae adults produce so many eggs---they (read: have evolved to) to essentially cross their fingers and hope some of them survive to adulthood.
Once adults, their survival chances greatly increase for a lot of reasons. One, their skin is mostly tough cartilage, hard to bite through, though sea lions and orcas do try. Then, like said before, they are pretty low in nutritional value. And finally, that I know of, they are open ocean fish. It doesn't always feel like it, but the ocean is very big. It's not often that molidae come across predators.
They do come across reefs fairly often though, and there are some interesting behaviors they exhibit. Like many other fishes, they let cleaner fish clean them. For more pesky parasites, they float at the very surface of the water and let seabirds eat the parasites off their skin.
Speaking of skin, i most recently learned that M. alexandrini changes color, and it can do it quite rapidly. It seems like when they are startled they can make their patterns more bold, a display showing just how large they really are. These patterns remain relatively stable & can be used for identification.

So I do this thing when I'm writing...
I like to track how many words I've written in a day, but because I haven't done all the executive functioning of figuring out a word processing program that would do it automatically, I'm still using the old standby of noting of how many words are in the doc when I start and then subtracting the total when I'm done to get how many words I've added.
But that means that if I delete any words while editing, I'll throw my total off. So instead, I just cut them and paste them into a "scrub text" section at the end of the doc. (This also makes it easier to cut words, since I'm not actually deleting them and can recover them if needed).
But this does have the surreal effect that sometimes at the end of a long night I'll come to the end of my doc and read something like:
even if I holding up his hand with the pinky and thumb folded ingot lucky and got picked up by some great lesbian pirates almost right away mola mola rundown thought up

not to be that kind of fan but if burning shores or the horizon series in general introduces aerial battle mechanics and Hekarro doesn’t lead squadrons of Tenakth sunwing pilots (including and especially Kotallo!!) for the epic final battle (assuming there is one) like if i don’t see Tenakth overhead for the aerial assault I’ll be kinda disappointed like i was when i saved the rachni queen in ME1 and didn’t see an epic swarm of rachni help take down a reaper in ME3
#horizon forbidden west#aloy#kotallo#hekarro#hfw spoilers#wishful thinking!! hahaha#i also think it would be great payoff for the Tenakth tribe to realize their pilot dreams#and kotallo in particular#they would literally become defenders of the sky#also deep down i think it would be a huge oversight by the writers to create a whole tribe that worship flight#introduce flight#and only let aloy fly#mola text
