As much as I ADORE the themes of the current Doctor Who, I really don't get the people who are affectionately calling the message "subtle as a brick to the face" but hated on Orphan 55 and the like during Chibnall bc of how "preachy" it was. Like, babes...do we need to have a conversation about how "Space Babies," "Oxygen," and "Orphan 55" are all just as preachy as each other? That's kinda what Doctor Who has always been about??? Absolute camp of the Adipose, Slitheen, Pting, Smiley Robot, and Menacing Cube varieties interspersed with some of the must unsubtle, earnest monologues in the world delivered by some of the best actors (gn) in Britain? Thank you very much give me several more of these stupid lonely aliens on a platter???
#the thing is that yes chibnall had some stinkers but so did rtd and moffatt#every showrunner has had their weak spots and downsides#and there are some legitimate criticisms of chibnall but like this isn't one of them#this IS the DNA of Doctor Who#doctor who#rtd#chibnall#thirteenth doctor#fifteenth doctor#space babies#orphan 55#moffatt#don't say you hate thirteen bc of the writing if you’re just going to like it when another writer does the same thing

This doesn't surprise me, my read of Moffatt is he's not a simple Andrew Tate style misogynist, but the arguably much weirder and more tragic type of person who tries SO HARD to not be misogynist in his writing by creating 'strong women' and 'sexually liberated' characters without having any clue how to actually do that, that it ends up being more sexist than if he hadn't bothered.
My read is that he is definitely sexist, but in the unconscious way where it's not out of hatred but sheer incompetence, inflated ego and lack of self-criticism.
Obviously he wants, or aims to be progressive, he's just not able to see issues beyond the surface level, but not being transphobic with pronouns is so obviously correct that even he can't fail to see that. And because he isn't driven by hate so much as arrogance, there's no reason for him to be transphobic.

It doesn't matter if that fic has been in your drafts for years and is now self-indulgent to the point of parody. If Steven Moffatt is allowed to do it professionally, you are allowed to do it for fun.
#every time I write I take a peek at my brain and it's just Steven Moffatt in there yes-anding himself#and I have to remind myself that that's okay#I don't know how he got in there but if I am responsible for keeping him captive so be it

Good Omens graphic novel update: September 2024
Our warehouse is slowly filling up with all the items ready to ship to you in Spring. We've had some rather dazzling Giclee prints (Horsemen+) arrive, that we are whisking over to Colleen next month for her to sign for backers.
We also promised that, given the graphic novel was pushed back from Summer 2024 to Spring 2025, with this extra time we would add some new prints to Loot Box #1 (Serpent+), and here they are! First, after a number of anime requests, we present this from Ed Jacob-Moffatt:
And, we have this delightful piece from Neil Slorance, again with our favourite angel and demon:
And, dare we say, another show-stealing duck:
Onto the graphic novel, we're diving into the archives of linework for this glorious piece from Colleen:
And this fun, very normal, encounter:
Crowley and Aziraphale up to their usual japes:
And the Them hanging out. Nothing to worry about. No apocalypse on the horizon. Nope.

As always, you can find answers at our FAQ page for the project. Some key recurring ones for this month:
I need to change my address. How do I do so? As long as your items have not been shipped, you can always change your address. Just simply log back in to PledgeManager and make the appropriate change. We will be keeping this option open for as long as possible, given the new publication date of Spring 2025. PledgeManager have provided a step-by-step guide on how to change your address, which is available on the FAQ page.
Can I still add items to my pledge? Yes. You are able to go into your pledge and 'unlock' it to add further items. The process is similar to changing your address, as this is also via the "Update & Modify My Order" button.
Please check the FAQ as your first port of call, and if your question isn't answered, get in touch with the Estate team and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
Until next time.
p.s. For those in search of calming content that also scratches the Good Omens itch, Colleen has been sharing some Instagram reels of her working on the graphic novel, and the music is very relaxing, even when drawing the end of the world.

Bedevil, stylised as beDevil, is a 1993 Australian horror film directed by Tracey Moffatt, the first feature directed by an Aboriginal Australian woman.
The film is a trilogy of surreal ghost stories. Inspired by ghost stories she heard as a child from both her extended Aboriginal and Irish Australian families, Moffatt created a trilogy in which characters are haunted by the past. All three stories are set in Moffatt's highly stylised, hyper-real, hyper-imaginary Australian landscape.

ok ive thought about it a bit and i dont like it. sorry. i think it fufills that kind of instant dopamine rush of pure spectacle and the idea of the doctor needing a fucking break is good but essentially splitting a fragment off of him to go have all that off-screen feels like wish fulfillment rather than good story. its also like. RUSSELL THIS IS THE SECOND TIME YOUVE BROUGHT "SPLITTING DAVID TENNANT TO HAVE AN ORDINARY LIFE" TO CLASS. LIKE WE DID THIS BEFORE.
FUNDAMENTALLY the part that most upsets me about it is it feels motivated by the same nostalgic urge that bringing back DT had in the first place, which ended up being a decision I enjoyed but I still think is rooted in this fear of change and this avoidance of tragedy. Tragedy and sadness provide catharsis, they really do, and doctor who is a show about change. It feels...emotionally stunted, in a way. like RTD is giving us pool floaties because he doesn't trust us to swim in the deep end of the pool. Its the same cautiousness that I found particularly upsetting about Chibnals tenure, and the same cautiousness that motivates the endless steam of reboots under late capitalism.
I like to HOPE that this will be resolved in the near future just as I'm HOPING biregeneration will also be explained. At least we got to see Ncuti's ass
EDIT this post i made in 5 minutes intended for my mutuals has brought me nothing but misery. Please take a film class and listen to the new Suede album. thank you
#EDIT PEOPLE FINDING THIS POST AND GETTING ANGRY. ITS MY OPINIONNNN#enjoyed the rest of the episode btw this conlusion is just. hm#Especially to then bring up all the tragic ends from Moffatt era specifically to circumvent them rubs me the wrong way idk#warlock wartalks#dw spoilers

You know how when 11 regenerated into 12 Clara went on tilt and couldn't wrap her head around it, and he gave that speech about how she "couldn't see" him and how awful that felt. She got that call from 11 and was like "thank goodness it's the Doctor" and he was like "that was ME calling you!!" and she just really struggled to grasp that 12 was 11 and the Doctor is the Doctor.
Which is weird, for her, as the one companion who has seen/met every single Doctor, but whatever.
I was just thinking about how Donna doesn't know any other Doctors - 14 is just 10 again to her, and she's never met or interacted with any of the other regenerations. But she can see the Doctor immediately when he regenerates (bi-generates, whatever) this time. In a literal blink of an eye, she understands this new guy is also her favorite guy and she loves him just as much, and is already besties with him.
There's no point to this post, other than that Donna is the coolest and I like to talk about Doctor Who.
#doctor who#donna noble#fourteenth doctor#tenth doctor#fifteenth doctor#possible this post is also about how much better RTD is than Moffatt

Yet again making the argument that Our Good Shadows is not the new Superwholock due to the fact that all three of these shows share sincere genuine artistic motivations and connections while the "Who" of "Superwholock" NEVER EVER belonged with the other two due to its sincere queer representation and groundbreaking rep (*cough* Jack Harkness kissing the doctor in an emotional goodbye, his relationship with Ianto, ALL OF TORCHWOOD BEING BI, etc. *cough*). Only once Stephen Moffatt got his fingers on it did things change. Thus, I must argue that The Magicians or your other contemporary queerbait of choice belongs in the new trilogy for sheer symmetry of "One Of These Not Being Like The Others." In this essay I will-

midnight is possibly The best episode of doctor who ever (better than blink!!) i think. it is absolutely genius in its writing and storytelling. its a wonderful sci fi mystery with some great social commentary with minimal vfx and it relies pretty much entirely on the talent of the actors to tell the story and it manages to do so in a way that is so compelling and sometimes funny and sometimes utterly chilling ITS SO GOOD
#i am a steven moffatt hater til the day i die but i do genuinely think its better than blink#doctor who#doctor who midnight

Who is most important to the history of Doctor Who?
TOURNAMENT MASTERPOST
propaganda under the cut
Douglas Adams – script editor for the late Tom Baker era
the obvious: wrote and helped write some of classic who's best episodes. infuriated everyone with romana's regeneration scene in destiny of the daleks. has had a massive impact both on doctor who specifically and on doctor who through his general impact on scifi, no one is doing it like him. and he's hilarious! (anonymous)
Rona Munro – only writer for both Classic and NuWho
Only person to write an episode for both classic (survival) and new who (eaters of light). responsible for: making the master a catboy and giving ace a cheetah girlfriend. 'death by Scotland' (anonymous)
Russell T Davies – revived Doctor Who
Russell T Davies wasn't just "some guy" they got to run the revival series; He lobbied the BBC to bring the show back and was in discussion talks in 1998 before the show was back on air. Davies brought the show back in a ginormous way and allowed a new generation to fall in love with the series, which translates into people going back and watching Classic Who as well. Under him, the show was immensely popular, regularly being one of the most watched things each week. Doctor Who would not exist today without him and I'm not even sure the classic show would have the same love it currently does without Davies introducing the series to a brand new audience. Also if we're including extended media not just the main show, Sarah Jane Adventures SLAPS. (anonymous)
Steven Moffat – showrunner for the eleventh and twelfth Doctors
This might be a hard sell on the website that, for some reason, can't seem to progress past 2011 when it comes to evaluating Moffat and his work, but I'm going to try anyway. Curse of the Fatal Death, advocate for female doctor since 1998. First onscreen biracial and bigender regeneration. Wrote some of the most iconic episodes of the series, including the 50th, Blink and Heaven Sent. Things like Weeping Angels, the Empty Child, the Silence, all instantly became part of the show's iconography because his concepts were THAT GOOD. Wrote Missy. The 50th special, again, was basically a love letter to the entire show. Brought Doctor Who to an even bigger audience than ever! It was airing in cinemas worldwide! Stuck around for s10 because there was no clear successor for showrunner position, because he loved the show that much. Took criticism to heart and always tried to better himself as a person and his writing, which - well, Doctor Who's longevity is in its willingness to change. Cast Peter Capaldi. Wrote Heaven Sent. Has written the most stories out of anyone in the show's history. Most of all, I think he understood the true heart of the series when he ends his first story with "Everybody lives Rose! Just this once, everybody lives!". He gets it. Also Capaldi run again I cannot stress this enough. (anonymous)
Chris Chibnall – showrunner for the thirteenth Doctor
invented gay people and sapphics <3 (anonymous )
