I like how this movie had time to lecture the audience, but subverted our expectations by boldly telling us that Phase 4 has gotta’ do better in a stunning and brave way.

Modern Aurora (Sleeping Beauty)
Now this one is a little strange because Aurora’s “peasant” outfit is already suuuuuper modern. I'm picturing Aurora as either a Art major or a Literature major. Either way loose golden curls and a black form fitting sweater with some items that are either thrifted or vintage inspired.

Modern Disney: Alice —Aesthetic
Tumblr media
Modern Alice
Despite being a child, Alice may grow up to own her own tea emporium. Her intelligence and curiosity would definitely help her become an independent businesswoman. Alice would then likely surround her England shop with a beautiful flower garden. When she's not selling tea, she tends to her garden as a relaxing hobby.

I just know that Wish will be a cult classic and will be seen as an underrated Disney masterpiece in the future. I want there to be more people on the inertness that agree with me.
I think, Disney's 2023 animated Disney movie deserves more respect from the Disney fan communities online. I want more people to watch it again and find more enjoyment in it. Besides, being well-written is the only thing in movies, and modern Disney shows that being good means that's more good in movies no matter what. And that the negative stuff, like complaining about how a movie is written is not relevant. The movie's animation looks really good. I want animated Disney movies that look like that, mixing hand-drawn 2D with 3D CGI. The characters are great, especially Asha the hero. And Star is so cute. The songs are so catchy. Please, show your support, respect and appreciation for all new modern Disney movies, including Wish, sequels and the live action remakes here.

As an old Disney fan I can't help but notice that the Elio movie looks so "Cocomelon" and childish. I miss when Disney made movies the whole family could enjoy. Especially after seeing what Wish had to offer it's like Disney keeps straying further and further from serious and/or dark themes. I miss when most Disney movies had a dark/villain death scene.
Might I remind you that this was in the first Disney movie:
Tumblr media
Literally plummeting to her death and being killed by a boulder falling.
And this was in two of Disney's most beloved movies:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Scar being surrounded by fire to be eaten alive by hyenas. Gothel turns so old that she falls to her death and becomes dust.
Disney made the Notre Dame movie which is incredibly dark for a family movie. Up until recently almost all Disney movies had a dark/frightening scene or villain death scene. Now Disney is so tame it's actually so boring.

I can't bring myself to watch the live action Lion King because it feels like a slap to the face towards the original animated lion king I grew up knowing and loving. What are your thoughts?
I 100% agree with you. The original Lion King was the first-ever movie I watched. Ever. It's my favorite Disney film. Simba is in my bloodstream. Free serotonin every time I see him! I hate the live action version. We saw it in theaters in 2019 because we loved the original so much, and were horrendously disappointed. We sort of went into it knowing it wouldn't hold a candle to the OG, but we didn't expect it to be quite as soulless as it was. I mean, it's the most boring thing I've ever seen. You're working with talking, singing animals and not one of them is able to show an ounce of emotion? And my eyes were crying out for real color throughout. At least in the cartoon I can differentiate Simba's coat from the terrain. I might as well have been watching Animal Planet. The voice cast was fine, but overall, like all of Disney's foolish, insulting, disrespectful live action remakes, it's a completely unnecessary movie. Icky cash grab wearing the original Lion King's corpse. Why, why would you watch a shell of a story, a painful, mind-numbing 2.0 when you could go and enjoy the full thing, the original? It's a total waste of time. It takes everything good about the source material and removes it, replacing it with lifeless realism and a lack of any proper intentionality or heart. Ew ew ew. And don't get me started on the new Mufasa film. Draw that sucker by hand or throw it in the garbage, you brainless, insatiable leeches. Stop treating us like idiots. We will not all hand you our earnings for every underdeveloped cop-out piece just because you used to be trustworthy and make great art. Modern-day Disney has lost 90% of my respect. I haven't seen a film of theirs in theaters since Encanto. I refuse to see any more live action remakes, I refuse to pay money to ensure their moldy leftovers get one more box office number, and I refuse to believe they're ever going to go back to the way it used to be: good stories, for good reasons. And The Lion King (2019) makes my point for me. sorry got a little winded there-

Modern Belle
I'll be honest I'm pretty tired and disheartened at the moment. Still no job on the horizon, I appreciate every like and warm comment on my art on social media but wow am I tired of being stressed. So to cheer myself off and take a little bit more pressure off myself I decided to visit the characters who inspired me to keep all this running for over two years. The Heroines who got this whole ball rolling. But this time (so I do less research and can recharge a little) in modern clothing!!
For Belle I decided to lean into her book-obsession and keep her in the realm of a vintage-inspired "dark" academia fashion. Her long skirt, collared shirt, and most importantly her ribbed pullover/knit sweater with puffy sleeves. All in shades of off-gold. Which you tubers do you think she watches?

Modern Captain Hook x female reader- He’ll always find me
Description: Being the gang leader’s girlfriend can be hard especially when people want to use you to get to him
(Y/n)= your name
Based on a request by @disney-girl67
AN: No explicit smut but it is implied
Warnings: Kidnapping, gangs, gang related crimes, death, murder, guns, blood and gore, implied smut, slight explicit description
Tumblr media
A day off from work was rare now that it was so busy but when you were given the chance for a day at the beach with your friends you jumped at it. Your boyfriend had been apprehensive at first but you were able to convince him with wide puppy dog eyes and a promise to wear something lacy and red that night. Your boyfriend was always worried about letting you go anywhere because he was worried about his enemies trying to use you to get to him. Your boyfriend was James Hook the leader of the Pirates, a notorious gang who lived by their own rules. Being his girlfriend could be hard, you had to be extra careful who you trusted and you always kept a knife on you just in case but you loved him and you knew that he would do anything to keep you safe.
Despite him always wanting to keep you safe he couldn’t be around you all the time which is what led to your currant situation. You and your friends had been relaxing on the beach when one of them had seen that a group of boys were paying close attention to you. Thinking nothing of it you continued on with your day but then the boys became to hard to ignore when they’re group became bigger and they began to get closer to you. One of your friends had been the one to realise that they were members of Hook’s rival gang, The Lost Boys. So you decided that your day at the beach was over, grabbing your stuff and making sure your phone was in your hand you began to make your way to the car.
As you walked you began to find your boyfriends contact details on your phone trying to ring him before anything bad happened but it seemed like luck was not on your side. The group had made it to the car but you had to quickly begin driving as the gang members were close behind you. With your phone ringing you sped away hoping to loose them before they were able to follow in a car but that was not the case. Their car quickly caught up to you as you handed your phone to your friend sat next to you who began to speak to James when he answered, “… their following us!” She shouted as the car shook when the back was hit by their front, “I don’t know how we’re gonna get away!” Your friend put the call on loud speaker and the voice of your boyfriend filled the air.
“(Y/n?)” James questioned making sure you could hear him, once you had replied with a sharp yes he continued to speak, “where are you? I’m in the car now and I’m going to head your way. All you have to do is continue driving” His voice was calm but you could hear the anger behind it. You took a deep breath, “we’re turning onto George street now but they keep hitting the car,” your voice was shaky which showed the fear you had running through your veins. James reassured that he wouldn’t be long but the sounds of his voice was cut off when the car you were driving was hit from the back again, your friends screamed as the force pushed you off the road and into a tree. The horn was blaring and the airbags had exploded and the ringing in your ears covered up the shouting James was doing down the phone. The Lost Boys members had ran to the car and pulled you kicking and screaming from your seat leaving your friends crying, shouting and scared.
(Two hours later)
You had been taken to their hide out and tied to a chair, they hadn’t spoken to you at all but you knew at some point someone was gonna come into the small room to speak. You had no idea what they wanted, whether it was information or just to generally scare James. James didn’t tell you much about his business and the things he did tell you were nothing special because he didn’t want you getting targeted.
Your thoughts were interrupted when the door flung open and a tall man walked in, you had no idea who he was and you didn’t particularly care. All you wanted was James but you knew he was coming to get you. “Now,” the man started, “I’m not expecting you to know who I am and I don’t care, what I do care about is James Hook and where he put the money he stole from me.” You stared back at him silently, trying to hide the fear you felt running through your veins in the silence. “Look, all you need to do is tell me where the money is and I’ll let you go.” The Man spoke leaning down slightly to get eye level with you.
You scoffed loudly, “I don’t know what your talking about and even if I did I wouldn’t tell you” you spoke firmly “and you wouldn’t let me go!” The man smirked at you with evil eyes “no I wouldn’t” he agreed “because your fare too valuable to let go…” his voice trailed off as his hand ran over your cheek, “I can see why Hook keeps you around, you are a pretty one…”
The man stopped speaking when he heard shouting coming from outside the room, you signed in relief hearing the familiar voice of some of the men who worked with James. The man stared at you as you smirked in return, “you’re dead!” You stated, spitting the words out with venom.
Soon after the shouting started the bang of the door flying open filled the room and your boyfriend marched in with a furious look on his face. “You think you can take my girl and get away with it!” He stating making a shiver run down your spine. It always turned you on when he sounded so rough but you knew that now wasn’t the time. The man who had been talking to you stumbled back slightly wanted to get away from the murderous look that was aimed at him, blood dripped from James’ hand and covered his suit. The gun he held was aimed so the man’s head was perfectly in shot and when he glanced at you with caring eyes you looking away knowing that you wouldn’t want to see what was about to happen.
A loud bang filled the air and then the quieter bang of a body hitting the ground followed it. “Are you alright?” James asked walking to you, quickly undoing the rope and pulling you to his chest. You mumbled that you were fine into his chest as you hugged him finally feeling safe in his arms. James pulled away slightly but didn’t let you look around the room, he guided you to the door with a hand on your back, “let’s get you home.”
(3 hours later)
James had ran you a bath and cleaned the both of you up, he had made sure you had eaten and were now snuggled together in bed with only the light from the tv shining on you. “I’m sorry” James spoke tightening his grip on your waist, “I’m sorry I let that happen to you.” You looking up from your place on his chest and looking into his eyes which had nothing but sorrow in them. You leaned up and kissed him gently, “it wasn’t your fault,” you said as he began to gently stroke your hair, “you couldn’t control what happened and I’m fine.” James shook his head again tightening his grip on you, “but something worse could have happened…” you cut him off with a statement, “but it didn’t,” you kissed him gently again “I’m right here.”
You were the only one who would ever see this side of him, the more vulnerable side who showed his emotions fully and without judgement. James nodded still not believing your words because all he could think about was the fact that you could have died. James kissed you softly but it turned more passionate as the tv was forgotten and the event mostly forgotten. All you wanted in that moment was each other, to feel safe in each others arms, to feel each others skin, to feel each others love. And for the rest of the night you did not sleep but you showed each other how much you loved each other and you showed James how thankful you were that he had saved you.

Modern Disney: Snow White —Aesthetic
Tumblr media
Modern Snow White
Snow White would still be the “fairest of them all” with her “lips red as the rose. Hair black as ebony. Skin white as snow.” However, the princess would likely run her own bakery while happily cooking for the Prince at home. Of course, Snow White would make him do the cleaning after his own day of work. Perhaps the Prince would be a classic singer who manages a horse stables as a hobby. Thanks to both partners proving income, the couple is able to live a wealthy lifestyle. They may even own a pair of turtle doves as pets.

Why modern disney sucks. an essay by me. P.s. you dont have to like my opinion, it is literally just an opinion and no amount of telling me to go outside or get a hobby is going to stop me from procrastinating on this site and spitting out my views on my blog.
You don't have to read it. it's fine.
So disney has lost its magic, and to be honest there's no one reason why. It's actually a number of reasons to do with the stories they choose, the animation, the woke feminism of Hollywood and not understanding the formula which we will explore in the paragraphs below.
Let's start with the stories they choose to tell. Back in ye olden days disney's main thing was retelling fairy tales. You have Snow White, Cinderella, Pinnochio, Robin Hood all classic fairy tales that would have been accessible to everyone. The thing was, as well, that disney didn't cater to children, or girls. Disney was focusing on a broad audience of all genders and ages. Meaning it had to appeal to adults and children. which it did. Snow White was seen by a lot of adults when it first came out. A lot of the stuff in Pinnochio is what only adults would truly understand and what kids did served as a cautionary tale. for example the beer and smokes when Pinnochio got to Fantasy Island. it was only when animationbecame targeted more towards children that we see the animation and stories change to a more child friendly stage. But even still, they could still be enjoyed by adults.
Modern disney has forgotten that. They see something catered to children as catering to toddlers. Kids can learn about drinking. they can learn about smoking because, chances are, they see it every day. my parents used to smoke around us. My parents and family used to drink around us on new years and christmas. It's a part of life children already know about. There is literally no need to censor it. But they do, which waters down what is a story about morality into a barely able to be followed movie.
Then there are the stories themselves. Disney seems to have steered away from the fairy tales, which theres nothing wrong with. But by doing so they're putting a lot of pressure onto their writers who, in my opinion, dont understand the fairy tale structure. Or the story disney has created. So theres a character, they want something, there's a villain, they stand in the way of our hero. They overcome the villain and have a happy ending.
This, structurally is a good formula. It's easyto stick to it's easy to replicate. It's easy. But disney doesn't like this anymore. They want to humanize their villains which, you don't have to do that. Villains sometimes need to just be villains. they don't need depth. They're literally there to stop the protagonist. That's their story, we don't have time or the energy to humanize them because if we do the ending wont be as impactful.
Let me give you a scenario. In the new girl boss amazon Cinderella they gave the evil stepmother a backstory. They humanized her, and did we feel sorry for Cinderella after that? after we find out the stepmother is only hard on her for her own good?
Go back to old Cinderella. she's mopping floors, she has to get up at dawn. She has chore after chore after chore and when she is promised a reward she doesn't get it. The stepmother has nothing to humanize her. The step sisters are horrible. It really helps us to feel for Cinderella and that's important because we WANT Cinderella to now escape. We WANT her to have a happy ending with the prince.
We don't want that in the amazon Cinderella.
I will give the Disney remake of Cinderella this that they did make me feel for her. It wasn't bad.it just wasn't magical.
They need a villain. It's why frozen, in my opinion, was so bad. The villain needs to be established from the offset. None of this surprise crap. Remember this is a kids film, they kind of need the clarity. Not always. But you have to remember you only have an hour and a half to tell this story. It's different in tv shows. You can build that stuff up. But in movies you don't have that time. You need established roles. That's why they make money. Syndrome is immediately a villain. He doesn't try and trick mr incredible himself, he does it through Mirage who herself isn't a bad person so it makes sense. Clayton, Gaston, Maleficent, Hook, they're all bad and we need them to be that way. We dont have time for backstories for them and the hero.
It's not about them.
disney doesn't follow a formula. It also chooses the wrong characters to be their main character. Like in Luca, like I said, Alberto should have been the main character. He had the more interesting story and you go with what's more interesting when it comes to writing.
The reason I didn't like encanto was because it was all over the place in terms of plot and follow through. Bruno was set to be this big bad. Then he's not. theres no follow through. same with the grandma. Again, we need someone to contrast the hero against and we need a poignant defeat. Like in the princess and the frog or tangled, again, they had a villain, rapunzel turned on her own would be mother because she's shown to us to have no redeeming qualities in this film.
Let's move onto money and animation. There is no money in 2d anymore. Which is sad. You can feel the passion in old disney because they spent years making them. These days they plop out a new film every month. There isn't time to care about a movie. There are no special art styles. Like Hercules, Atlantis with its comic book style, Tangled which is cgi but was going to be 2d so you can see the art style still. All new films look the same I'm sorry but they do. I feel like people put their whole soul into those old movies. Like the jungle book animation is amazing. So is mr slithers in robin hood. I know people work hard, but my brother, an animator, even says he wishes they put money into 2d stuff because it's just better hands down. More creative, more fairy tale esque. Like if you look at Klaus, which is not disney but oh my god the animation in that is beautiful.
Thats not to say modern animation cant be. But disney isnt known for that. Pixar and dreamworks are and dreamworks does such a good job with creating art styles in their movies. They arent carbon copies. You look at shrek and you look at kung fu panda and you know they're different.
Onto new age hollywood feminism. I don't think disney knows what feminism means? They can't. Not possible. Why else would they purposefully trash their old films and make fun of them in their new films? There is nothing wrong with wanting to be snow white or sleeping beauty. They are representations of their time and representations of women. leave them alone. They don't need to be woke. They don't need to be strong willed. every girl is different.
I feel like Disney is trying to fix their old movies but they literally dont have to be. The formula works for a reason. People would stop watching them if there was a problem with them. But they don't. We still watch them, we still find meaning in them today.
I feel like Disney focuses too much on making things child friendly that they're forgetting the reason old disney works is because its family friendly. Aka theres something for everyone.
Theres more, someone did a stellar video on youtube explaining why movies like the little mermaid helped disney revive itself. Like they cracked the musical formula. I'm gonna try and find it and put it on here. But this is all I have so far.
