teacher izuku...save me...i need more teacher izuku....
I WANNA BE SAVEDD
detention with teacher izuku
Detention serves as a form of a discipline, to ensure an unruly student would own up to their misdemeanors in a supervised setting. So why were you just sitting there smiling to yourself in earnest?
Well, quite frankly, it didn't feel like it in the first place.
Filling the empty air was the clock that ticked so painfully slowly and the subtle scribbles of a pen from the teacher's desk. But not just any teacher. You steal a quick glance at Mr. Midoriya from behind your arm in wonder of his occupacy, one of the many in succession. Was he looking at you? Working on anything? He was concentrated on something, probably grading, and his expression showed. His focus, the way his eyes trailed, narrowing at minor mistakes and the occasional grin when a paper read reasonably. Ugh, he just looked so good.
The missing assignments splayed out on your desk remained neglected, barely signed by your name and date in effortless strokes. Guess taking time to focus on your own happiness comes with a price. You sigh, propping your arm up on the desk and resting your cheek on your palm. Despite your best efforts to focus on the present moment, your gaze inevitably drifted toward Mr. Midoriya once again.
Within minutes, the classroom began to melt, with him remaining at the focal point. The stark lines of desks, the muted colors of the walls, and the faint hum of the fluorescent lights all seemed to fade into the background. Mr. Midoriya stood out with a clarity that was both mesmerizing and disorienting. There was no doubting it, Mr. Midoriya was one hell of an attractive teacher, in all ways possible you might add. There was just nothing bad any student could say about him. He has everything. He embodied a blend of qualities that made him stand out perfectly: his sweet, engaging personality, the genuine bonds he formed with his students, and his dual legacy as a hero, both past and present.
The blurriness fades away and you're met with the piercing emerald gaze of Mr. Midoriya himself, his eyes vibrant and full. In panic, you quickly avert your eyes in embarrassment, your heart racing.
"Y/n," he directs, his gaze unwavering. After tons of X marks and overly excessive side notes that practically ran off the pages, the pen finally came to a rest as he filed his last graded paper and cleared his desk. "Have you finished any of your missing assignments?"
"Uh- no sir..." you mumble, staring at them with guilt.
"...Over the past 30 minutes, I've just finished grading all 20 of your class's assessments, y/n. Am I keeping you here for nothing?" He inquired sternly, but not so much of hard criticism. Even then he remained as patient and pleasant as he could be. In his voice lay genuine concern behind his words, a silent affirmation that he cared deeply about your progress and well-being. In a way, it stirred your heart into ache at the thought of disappointing him and that's exactly what you were doing. The knowledge that you were falling short of his expectations was crushing, but it also underscored how much you valued his opinion and how keenly you desired to meet his standards.
The silence that followed was thick with the weight of shame. Seconds ticked by slowly, and the distant chime of the hour alarm set on his phone seemed faint and irrelevant. Mr. Midoriya remained resolutely in his chair, his gaze fixed on a spot somewhere between you and the floor, thinking. Instead of eagerly releasing you from detention so he could go home, he decided uphold his role as a teacher and take matters into his own hands.
Mr. Midoriya rose promptly from his chair, with almost deliberate grace. He approached your desk with a quiet resolve, his footsteps clicking against the hardwood floor.
"You know, the grading period for this semester's almost over, I won't even be able to accept these anymore soon..." He stands over you, his figure casting a long shadow across your cluttered desk as he reads through the titles of the assignments. They were WAY overdue, some by MONTHS. Your head hangs low over your desk miserably. Your lack of input concerned him, and he takes a deep breath, his concern evident as he searches for a way to offer genuine support.
"Tell me, what's going on, y/n? Really," Mr. Midoriya asks, his voice low and gentle. He doesn’t stand over you in a domineering manner but instead squats down beside your desk, aligning himself with your level. His posture is open and inviting as he gazes up at you with empathy, his emerald eyes soft and attentive beneath his dark hair.
"..."
"I won't understand unless you talk to me, dear."
DEAR!??///// Your mind screamed in fluster. There was really nothing meant behind it besides a comforting invite, but still!! It made your heart flutter!!
You take a shaky breath, trying to organize your scattered thoughts. "I guess I...I can't focus," you answer hesitantly, your eyes trailing down every detail on his face. The faint, almost imperceptible scar on his cheek adds a rugged charm to his otherwise gentle features. He looked even better up close.
"You can't focus? Why not?" He questioned with a slight tilt of his head as if the answer was somehow written on your face. With the way your face flushed, it practically was.
"..." His gaze was intense, yet so tender. It felt like he could see inside of you and those thoughts of yours that unapologetically swam around him. Maybe he did and you'd never know. You find yourself caught between the comfort he offers and the dizzying effect he has on you.
Before you could open your mouth to speak, he went ahead.
"It's okay," he says softly. "You don't have to tell me..." Mr. Midoriya stood up and glanced at the clock on the wall for a moment and exhaled, deciding his next course of action. He reaches his hands to shuffle all the papers on your desk and sort them into a neat, thick stack.
He sighs. "...I don't usually do this but, tell you what. If you can complete all of these and turn them in to me before class in 2 days, I'll give you full credit," he announces, carrying a hint of encouragement. He smiles warmly as your face lights up in shock and simply nods in confirmation as if telling you 'yes, I'm completely serious'.
"Oh, thank you sir, but...I don't think I can-"
"Of course, you can! You won't get anything done with a doubting outlook like that, dear. Have a little more faith in yourself!" His hand presses against your shoulder softly with a gentle caress and you nod in bashful silence.
AKJSUGDDFYAVDHJAS
"Alright, you're dismissed y/n. Enjoy the rest of your day, but please use your time wisely, okay? I don't wanna see my student in detention!"
Mr. Midoriya truly is a wonderful teacher (and an attractive man).

Dead Boy Character Study - Crystal and Edwin
I know that Charles' remark to Edwin about how similar he and Crystal are is a sweet way of saying he loves them and food for thought. Crystal and Edwin are similar in plenty of ways: their snark, their drive to help people, and most importantly their coping mechanisms. From Crystal's flashbacks, we see that she coped with her parents neglect by turning her hurt into anger via toxic behavior like petty misdemeanors and hurting people around her. Edwin deals with his own fears of hell and jealousy over Charles bonding with Crystal into anger too. He snipes at Crystal and Charles, the whole montage of him trying to smash off the Cat King's bracelet, and gets especially angry when Crystal tells him that she willingly let David posses her. Even their disappearances (and Edwin's death) were handled similarly, Crystal's parents didn't even bother looking into her radio silence and assumedly Edwin's parents and his boarding school did the same. In short, I think that their similarities are too slept on. They're angry, neglected, and hurt kids who got screwed over by boys who claimed to love them. And that's even not going into how they serve as foils in how Hell hurt them. I really hope that in season 2 they get to bond more. They have the perfect set up for friends who insult each other as a love language but are really ride or die.

yap about ur headcanons about the socs pls!!
heheeh okay some misc things about the soc guys that have popped into my head throughout the week (im sorry this is so long)
EDIT: ok ive put it all under the cut bc it got so long but i do yap a little bit about each soc guy so please read hehe :)
Chet
chet and his family moved from california when he was in 3rd grade. his first friend in town was one sodapop curtis on his little league baseball team
his dad is a cop and wants to advance up the ranks, and his mom wants to make sure they keep up their good social standing, so chet was not friends with soda for long
you know those boys in like 5th grade that crack all the dumb jokes, hit all the door frames, and tease every girl "because he likes her"? thats chet and trip
this is inspired by @/sky4cherry iirc but chet does Nawt get attention at home man. his dad is always busy with work and a little mean (yknow how dads are in the 60s) and his mom is always working on the next social function or trying to appease his dad. anyways he is just always at another soc guy's house just to have someone Talk to him
i think he picks up drinking and smoking, and fighting, for a similar reason to bob: he just wants his parents to fucking notice he's doing something wrong. but theyre high enough now in the social and job spaces that they can just wipe any misdemeanors under the rug
i cant decide if chet is an only child, or if he has like 2 siblings that are way older than him. idk
Trip
terrance dipp is The Exasperated older brother ever. bro did Nawt want a little brother sorry melvin.
anyways unfortunately i do think trip is very much a guy's guy. that boy is Not a good boyfriend to marcia unfortunately :(((((( at least by the time we get to their sophomore year/the show
him and chet can not be sat together in class. they will never shut up or stop hitting each other.
chet broke his arm one time in like 6th grade. trip threatens to break it again at least once a month
ive said this before but ill say it again: trip and melvin are just soc steve and ponyboy. trip is so tired of his kid brother being in all his sports and trying to tag along to everything
that being said, he was looking out for melvin so much during the rumble. he knew their mom would kill him if he brought his brother home all beat up, but also he really really didn't want him to get too hurt.
he Always goes to marcia to patch him up after hes been in a fight. (after the rumble though, him and marcia are on the rocks, and hes got melvin to worry about. so he just sneaks melvin home and tries to clean him up before their mom sees. its actually a sweet bonding moment between them i think)
trip lovesssss verbally poking fun at any greaser in school, especially two-bit. after he realizes two-bit likes marcia, his mean jokes become a lot more threatening
(i do love trip i promise i just also think hes kinda a mean guy. you know the kind of rowdy douche bags in high school im talking about. im so sorry ksco and sean jones i promise i love trip kdjfkdjf)
Brill
clark brillstein i'll be so incredibly honest i dont have much in my brain for him :((( i gotta sit and think more
i do think he has one of the better home lives out of the bunch, and hes got his lovely perfect girlfriend, and hes good at sports, and honestly i think he just. gets tired of everyone thinking hes got it so perfect all of the time. i think maybe thats why he likes all the fighting so much
while he is relatively happy with his life rn, hes tired of being doted on like hes perfect. and also sometimes he sees everyone else's lives being so shitty, he feels likes hes got to pick fights to justify him feeling bad about his lot.
Paul
ohhh im gonna have to hold myself back from talking about him forever. he will get his own post at some point aDKFJDKFJK
anyways. paul holden. the messiest and most scared gay kid in the town of tulsa
i think he and bob literally grew up together. like their parents are Old old friends, so paul and bob have always basically been brothers despite a 2/3 ish year age difference (i dont feel like doing the exact math). i think bev's parents are also in this old friend group, so pauls known her forever too
anyways. he was probably the bob of his friend group in his class, which is why nobody really really protested darry being in their group. but i also think that when he was with darry, paul didnt really care about the whole social friend group of things too much.
contrary to popular belief i dont think paul is the friend-group-leader type. idk if that makes sense and i can yap about it more but.
anyways post-darry breakup paul is a fucking mess. hes sad and angry and those fights that darry was always trying to stop feel so damn good. maybe bob and his buddies are on to something, and bob's dad always has a full liquor cabinet
Bob
obviously we know the most about bob and his home life and inner psyche and reasons for fighting and honestly all of it really resonates in my brain. like yea im keeping all of that
bro has charisma to the max. like he has always been the ringleader of the friend group, even in like 4th grade when all the boys started becoming best buddies
he used to be such a mommas boy. before her praise just became so meaningless.
oh ive just had a revelation. he is an angrier and more resigned buddy aldridge from rotpl. his dad is pulling the strings to make sure his precious son is climbing all the right ladders.
the difference here tho is bob realized this earlier, and that started his spiral into fights and drinking and causing problems. he wanted to see what would finally make his dad stop covering and fixing everything for him. he never found that limit
he knows cherry cant stand the drinking, and i do think he does feel bad about ignoring her feelings about it. but his urge to push back against everything and spit in the face of anyone who tries to tell him how he should be just overpowers. and god everything is more fun when hes boozed up
#oh this got so long. but i hope you like :D#please please please lmk what yall think hehehe#i love yapping these are so fun to think about#the outsiders musical#the outsiders#outsiders musical#the outsiders broadway#bob sheldon#bob the outsiders#paul holden#paul the outsiders#chet baker#chet the outsiders#trip the outsiders#brill the outsiders#parry#paul x darry

Biden’s nominating a former judge who ran a debtor’s prison where her salary and office expenses came out of the fees she charged criminals, incentivizing the harshest penalties possible, to serve as the federal government’s chief prosecutor in New Orleans:
Keva Landrum locks down nomination for U.S. Attorney, source says (March 31, 2023)
President Joe Biden's administration is expected soon to formally nominate Keva Landrum, a former Orleans Parish criminal court judge, to serve as U.S. attorney in New Orleans, according to a source with knowledge of the process. The move comes nearly two years after The Times-Picayune reported she became the top choice for the prestigious post....
Just what held up her nomination remains a mystery.
A D.A. Runoff Will Decide New Orleans’ Criminal Justice Future (Nov 23, 2020)
This messaging matches parts of Landrum’s record. During her time as DA, she drew fire for coming down hard on marijuana possession. She prosecuted repeat offenses as felonies, charges that could result in five to 20 years in prison. Before her term, the office routinely treated such cases as misdemeanors, which carry much lower penalties. Critics accused her of racking up felony convictions to make it appear that the DA’s office was tackling violent crime after New Orleans was declared a “murder capital.”...
According to the magazine Antigravity, lawyers familiar with her practices told the magazine that Landrum regularly inflicted high bonds and long sentences as a criminal court judge.
Appeals court mulls 'debtors' prison' lawsuit against New Orleans judges (April 30, 2019)
Federal appeals court judges heard arguments Tuesday on whether state judges in New Orleans crossed a legal line by squeezing poor defendants for fines and fees that made up a big chunk of the state court's budget.
In an August decision, U.S. District Judge Sarah Vance said that it was a violation of the U.S. Constitution for the Orleans Parish Criminal District Court judges who rely heavily on fines and fees to also decide if defendants could pay them.
She said the judges also could no longer jail anyone for failing to pay court costs until the defendants had a chance to plead poverty in a “neutral forum.”
Since the ruling, Orleans judges have received a $3.8 million cash infusion from the City Council that more than plugs the budget hole from Vance's decision and another from a loss of bail fees.
Nevertheless, the judges appealed both rulings, which could hobble their ability to collect court costs in the future. Chief Judge Keva Landrum-Johnson said they did so on the advice of attorneys.

Files
Adrian plans to move against Jack.
In the timeline, this connects the pieces Gauze and Choices.
[Pet Safety]
Content: BBU, BBU recovery / pet lib setting, vaguely referenced past facility whump, vaguely implied past whump of minors.
Adrian stayed up long. It hurt the wounds in his neck to lay down anyway. As in the nights before, he’d sleep upright in the armchair in his living room. And if he was sitting already - well, he could read up on Jack Donnell.
He’d pulled the files of all Donnell’s pets before the inspection; he still had them saved on his work tablet. He knew the database queries by all WRU’s employees were recorded "for compliance reasons". He just hoped they weren’t paranoid enough to also regularly check their access of files on their own computers. If they did, he’d tell them it was about Bea.
Her case file was the first in the dossier, because she’d been Donnell’s latest acquisition. Adrian had only skimmed through it, back then. His job was to check the Guards, not the other designations; and he’d long learned that reading too many case files would make him angry and restless and lose the focus he needed.
Especially those about Romantics.
Especially those about second hand Romantics.
He did take the time to read it now.
Romantic pet 400168. Taken in eight years ago, at age 18. His stomach revolted already. It was almost 50-50, he knew. The chances, of an 18 year old trainee being, in fact, 18. It was illegal to process minors. So everyone was always of age.
She looked tired on the first photos. But stunningly beautiful already. And… almost happy. Relieved, to be at WRU. Adrian wondered, how long that had lasted. He didn’t want to know. So he scrolled on.
Specifications looked like a classic case, except for one line. 'English language training. Defamiliarization with native language (Spanish).'
Some training notes, that sounded smug and highly satisfied.
Sale to a corporate lawyer, who paid extra for someone 'who looked like a virgin and fucked like a whore'.
Seven years with the guy.
Then refurb.
Hadn’t looked or felt like a virgin any longer, Adrian thought grimly; but then reassessed.
'Runaway. Rebellious behavior. Disloyal. Refurb and disciplinary measures necessary.'
'Intended sale to family friend.'
'Specification: Strict defamiliarization with Platonic/Domestic WRU Pet 278017. Strongly discouraging bonds with other pets. Fear response (new prospective’s wishes) ; to be enforced by training with Guard trainees.'
Adrian stared at the closed door to his bedroom, behind which Bea was sleeping. Good for that first owner that his name was blacked out in the files, and that Adrian couldn’t access it without risking his own life, and hers.
Bad for Jack Donnell, that Adrian knew his name.
The contract was simple; it included that there’d been some faults about her second wipe, issues with discipline and short term memory; and the buyer’s response that he knew her well enough and he’d still take her.
The photos on that contract were different. Still a perfectly pretty face, still barely any marks on her body. But the look in her eyes, this time was… haunted. Afraid.
Just as Jack had ordered.
Teeth clenched, Adrian swiped to the next files.
The Guards’ documents he’d seen before, had had his suspicions about before as well. Before Bea had confirmed them. 'They all fight.'
Background of experienced fighters, all of them. Former soldiers, mercenaries, martial arts fighters, gangsters. Some had been recruited directly into WRU from prison, instead of serving long sentences. The missing one, the one Bea had called Mac, was one of them. His former self’s list of crimes was impressive. Adrian was pretty sure it had only grown longer during Jack’s ownership. Including assault on Bea. At least in a better world, where hurting someone like her wouldn’t be a misdemeanor at best.
Whatever Mac had done to her though, whatever the others had done, in this life or their past - the one who controlled it all now was Jack.
Adrian’s hands were tied to come after Jack in his official capacity as Pet Safety Inspector. But there was always another option. Pet lib. If he could find out, where this arena was, where Mac was held, where the others fought sometimes as well, if Marta could send a team there, if they filmed and found and published evidence, even his boss would have no choice but to allow Adrian to act.
Seizing all his pets. Revoking his pet owner’s license. Smile at him, while dictating all the fines he’d have to pay.
It was far less from what Adrian truly wanted to do to the man. But at least, it would be something.
*
"You know, Adri, you’d also save the pets." Marta said, after he explained his plan to her, a soft frown on her face. "Which is, what pet lib do, right?"
"Um." Adrian tilted his head. "Yeah, I mean, yeah, of course. That’s why I’m talking to you."
"No. You’re talking to me about revenge."
"Revenge would be for me to-" He stopped talking with a side glance to Bea and the runaway he’d helped during the raid, Noor, at the other end of the room.
Marta and he spoke Spanish, so he was painfully aware that Bea wouldn’t want to listen in - but she could. And she shouldn’t hear these things from him. He was a better man than her owners had been. He swore, he’d keep her from violence.
"Revenge would be more violent," he settled.
Marta scoffed, not convinced. "Sure. So. Anyway. If we do this, I don’t want you to confiscate them. I want to get them out for good. You find out where and what this place is, when they have their next fights. I find a safe space for a handful of recently freed, traumatized Fighters. It’ll take a while. So you take it slow, too, alright?"
He looked over at Bea, and she smiled back on instinct.
He would need her help to make out this place. She’d been there before, and it would hurt her to remember. Taking it slow was the best he could do. For her. After all, this was all for her.
And of course, to also save the other pets.
"Yeah," he sighed. "Yeah, alright. I will take it slow."

hey can i request for headcannons for a scarab x higher up reader and how he is such a simp for them
Alrighty! Higher up YN x Scarab HEADCANNONS! :D
Ok, so I’m assuming that YN is higher than Scarab’s position and might be in the disciplinary department so…
Higher up YN:
• as a YN, their position or role can vary depending on the request.
• Possible job positions: a member of the Judgement Hall, could be an Attorney, or Orbo’s right hand (or Big Boss’s right hand?). Could also be a parole officer, Lieutenant, detective, or one of the Big Boss’s Agents. YN could be the person Scarab has to hand over the Egged individuals to for processing…
- I’m not entirely sure of the hierarchy, but YN could be any position, even a Cosmic FBI of sorts. It depends on what you guys request.
• Like Scarab’s Crystal, you guys get a winged orb that functions similarly.
• you guys can use the pendant for more complex disguises
• depending on how you want YN, they could either be a friend of Orbo’s or Orbo could fear them due to him bending the rules (like for Prismo or threatening Scarab for example)
• You guys are basically seen as super cool and can go on James Bond level missions for more major crimes and investigations.
• YN could possibly be undercover to find out if the gods are bending cosmic rules and could act on it depending on the intentions and severity
•or YN can be more laid back like Orbo and just keeps track of Scarab’s missions, could also be the person who sends him the missions directly.
Scarab X YN Higher up:
• relationship could be kept secret due to work related reasons or it could be open, depending on the request.
• Scarab likes to meet up with YN on the way to the judgement hall to talk about his missions. May even show who he has egged and share gossip about the reason behind the misdemeanors
• Scarab likes to stop by your office EVERY TIME he comes by to drop off delinquents for Judgement
• Sometimes you are tasked with joining Scarab in missions depending on the violation. (Sometimes he exaggerates a little in hopes that they send you… and specifically asks for you…)
• you end up with flirty E-mails from him, often sent as an attachment to the report he gives you. You could be responsible for reviewing the reports for record and court purposes.
• your favorite snack on your desk, every day.
• if you’re on your day off, wherever you hangout at, Scarab would find excuses to be there too. Pretending he happens to be going that way specially just so he can see you and talk to you
• investigations together
• will act more professional than usual around you, even going as far as to check his breath and outfit to make sure he looks good when seeing you.
• Scarab wears cologne around you, might even try on your favorite scent if you like it
• even when he’s busy, he texts you
• insists on having a picture of you and him together, each pic with a different form of his. His reason being that he can “pretend you’re his spouse for mission purposes” for “cover stories” to make his disguise more believable. When it’s actually just so he can get away with looking at pictures of you two together without blowing his cover during missions.
• Scarab will arrange candle lit dinners for YN
• Scarab could bring YN flowers, usually red roses. YN may occasionally come home to a rose petal trail to their bedroom… 👀
• YN can get involved to help Scarab when he’s in too deep and needs help
• YN puts a good word in for Scarab after the Fiona and Cake incident
• even after the incident, YN visits Scarab and they read fan fiction together. Where Scarab writes them either as two warrior knights who fall in love after many dark souls-like quests together… OR he writes you as the person in distress and he comes to rescue you in the most dramatic way. (May or may not be Shakespeare inspired…)
• scarab would rescue you if you needed it
• He shows YN his face more often, feels more comfortable and himself around YN
• He will ask YN to join him for a Steak out. Could be legit or an excuse to sit alone in a car with you… 👀
• He speaks highly of you, even defending you behind your back
• He shivers and makes bug noises when he thinks of you, like when a person gets goosebumps a shiver down your spine in a good way kind of way.
• only you can dance with him, especially if dancing in bug terms can be used for courtship
• he brings you a dung ball every spring (for obvious reasons…)
• he will fight for you and gets pissed if someone hurts his precious YN

Federal disaster workers paused and then changed some of their hurricane-recovery efforts in North Carolina, including abandoning door-to-door visits, after receiving threats that they could be targeted by a militia, officials said, as the government response to Helene is targeted by runaway disinformation. The threats emerged over the weekend. The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement Monday that it received a call Saturday about a man with an assault rifle who made a comment “about possibly harming” employees of the Federal Emergency Management Agency working in the hard-hit areas of Lake Lure and Chimney Rock, in the North Carolina mountains. Authorities got a description of a suspect’s vehicle and license plate and later identified him as William Jacob Parsons, 44, of Bostic, a small community about 60 miles west of Charlotte. Sheriff’s officials said in a statement that Parsons — who was armed with a handgun and a rifle — was charged with “going armed to the terror of the public,” a misdemeanor. He was released after posting bond. The sheriff’s office said initial reports indicated that a “truckload of militia” was involved in making the threat, but further investigation determined that Parsons acted alone. Messages left seeking comment at phone listings for Parsons and a possible relative were not immediately returned. In a Facebook post, Ashe County Sheriff B. Phil Howell said FEMA put some work on hold as it assessed the threats. “Stay calm and steady during our recovery, help folks and please don’t stir the pot,” Howell wrote Sunday. FEMA confirmed in a statement Monday that it adjusted operations. It emphasized that disaster-recovery centers remain open and that FEMA continues “to help the people of North Carolina with their recovery.”

Okay yeah no I need to talk about the measures in California.
I am extremely disappointed in the results of some of the measures that were on the state ballot.
• Californians voted against raising minimum wage.
California has a high minimum wage in comparison to most other states in the US, but we also have one of the highest costs of living. I am a firm believer that minimum wage needs to keep up with the cost of living, so this measure failing was disappointing. (BTW in case it isn't clear, I also believe the federal minimum wage needs to be raised and all states should have wages that reflect cost of living.)
• Californians voted against rent control.
This measure had an insane amount of money going into advertising against it. If you live in California, I'm sure you were just as plagued by these advertisements as I was in the weeks leading up to the election. This measure would not have hurt the average homebuyer. This measure was intended to enact rent control to limit what landlords and companies can charge tenants.
• Californians voted against bonds for affordable housing.
My complaints for this one are in a similar vein as the one above. This would not have hurt people who are already homeowners. California has the largest population of unhoused people and one of the highest rates of homelessness per capita. The average house in California is worth $773,000. The median house cost is just over $900,000. This is a major problem. We need affordable housing.
• Californians voted against ending slavery within the prison system.
I really don't have words to express my outrage over this one. No person, incarcerated or not, should ever be forced to participate in labor. This is modern day slavery, and Californians voted to keep it legal. This is an abomination. Every person who voted against ending involuntary labor should feel ashamed. This measure didn't even have any opponents. No one put advertising money against it, and it still received over 5 million votes in opposition.
• Californians voted to increase the penalty for drug and theft crimes.
As a result of this measure passing, certain drug and theft crimes which were previously labeled as misdemeanors will be elevated to the status of felonies. Apparently we just need as many people to be in jail as possible to continue fueling the slave labor system. I am a firm believer that the justice system needs to focus more on rehabilitation than punishment, but it is clear that the majority of California voters don't agree with me.
I don't usually talk about politics on my blog, but they are important and I am too frustrated to censor my feelings at this moment.
#some good things did pass. we voted to protect same-sex marriage in the state's constitution#that's a nice thing to focus on#it's still just frustrating to see these types of results though#California often isn't as progressive as people might think and we have a lot of work to do#ashley rambles

Tyler Merkle, Ohio inmate A691559, born 1989, incarceration intake in November 2016 at age 27, sentenced to 5 years, released from custody January 2021
Sexual Battery
Former Chardon Schools’ tutor and assistant coach Tyler P. Merkle admitted in August 2016 to having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a 15-year-old Chardon High School student.
Geauga County Common Pleas Court Judge David Fuhry sentenced the now 27-year-old to five years in prison and fined him $4,000 for his conduct.
In so doing, the court adopted the recommendation of prosecutors that Merkle be given 60 months in prison on each of four counts of sexual battery, which the sentences to run together. Fuhry also imposed a $1,000 fine on each of the counts.
Merkle had agreed earlier to plead guilty to four counts of sexual battery, a high-tier felony of the third degree. As part of the plea deal, prosecutors agreed to dismiss eight other felony counts at sentencing.
Fuhry told Merkle his actions were not just socially unacceptable, they were criminal. “It was felonious; these aren’t misdemeanors,” he said. “They are sex offenses. Sex offenses are treated seriously.”
Those sex offenses branded Merkle a Tier III sex offender, noted Fuhry, requiring him to register in person with the sheriff in the county in which he resides every 90 days for life.
“I take note of the collateral (reporting) consequences, they are severe,” he said. “I take note, too, that this was a sex offense visited on a minor and you knew her age. This wasn’t a case of mistaken age.”
Fuhry told Merkle he knew his conduct was illegal, because he researched it and knew he could go to prison for it. And, even after he looked up the potential consequences, he added Merkle persisted in his conduct.
“That’s what we call blatant disregard for the law,” said Fuhry, adding Merkle presumable was mature enough to understand right from wrong. “You knew this was as wrong as wrong could be.”
The judge also noted, before pleading guilty when Merkle violated conditions of his bond by having contact with the victim through a digital music application called Spotify.
While the court recognized the many positive things Merkle has done in his life, “they don’t cancel out what happened here.”
Although he had provided a written statement to the probation department, Merkle told Fuhry he was sorry for his actions.
“I apologize to everyone involved that had no reason to be involved because of my mistake. From the top down, from (the victim) to her family, to my family, my friends, the community, the school district, the football team, the coaches, everyone,” he said. “I caused this and it could have been avoided with better judgment.”
Defense counsel Rick Perez requested Merkle avoid prison time and be sentenced to community control.
While Perez told Fuhry that Merkle was not making any excuses for his conduct, he pointed out the victim was the one who made the initial contact.
“He didn’t teach her, he didn’t coach her, he didn’t have her in study hall,” Perez said, adding Merkle knew the victim’s brother and that is why she texted him.
Merkle texted her back and during the summer of 2015 the texting became more frequent, Perez said.
“In the fall, they started seeing each other,” he explained. “He realizes now he should have put the brakes on everything. He let it go a little too far and all of a sudden he fell in love with her.”
Perez told Fuhry if the victim were present in the courtroom, he would assume she would not be asking the court to impose any type of penalty on his client.
“I know her parents feel differently and that’s their right,” he acknowledged.
Geauga County Prosecutor Jim Flaiz said there are consequences for criminal conduct and having sexual conduct with a minor is a serious offense, especially when the defendant is in a position of trust such as a teacher.
“When you’re in a position of authority like that and you take advantage of the situation and manipulate a young girl into a sexual relationship, that’s really bad conduct,” he said. “That’s exactly what happened here.”
Added Flaiz, “This is a 15-year-old girl who’s manipulated by the defendant and engaged in a long-term sexual relationship with him.”
The prosecutor told Fuhry the damage to the victim is probably irreparable.
Merkle initially was placed on administrative leave from school, where he served as a part-time tutor, study hall monitor and assistant football coach.
The inappropriate conduct occurred between Dec. 1, 2015, and April 12, 2016.
Subsequent appeals were unsuccessful.

A former Washington state high school teacher accused of having an inappropriate sexual relationship with one of her students pleaded guilty to the crime but will face no jail time under an agreed plea bargain, court records show.
McKenna Aileen Kindred, who taught at Central Valley High School in Spokane Valley, pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree sexual misconduct and one count of communication with a minor for immoral purposes, according to Spokane County Superior Court records obtained by USA TODAY.
Both charges are misdemeanors.
The city is the largest suburb of Spokane, located in east Washington.

Details of McKenna Kindred's plea deal
In addition to the charge of communication with a minor for immoral purposes, Kindred, 25, was initially charged with felony first-degree sexual misconduct, court documents show.
She had been set to go to trial on both charges this month, but under a deal reached between her defense attorney and the state attorney's office, she plead guilty to the lesser misdemeanor charges, court records show.
McKenna Kindred now a sex offender for life
Court documents show Superior Court Judge Dean Chuang suspended Kindred's sentence but said she must participate in two years of probation, pay a fine and told her she is not permitted to have contact with the victim.
She must also register as a sex offender, the judge ruled.
"As a result of my actions, I've lost my career, valuable friendships, freedoms and have let down countless people who placed their trust in me," Kindred told the judge during her sentencing hearing captured on video by KXLY-TV. "I am deeply ashamed of the pain I have caused."

McKenna Kindred's husband was out of town when pair had sex
Kindred was arrested in 2022 and has been free on bond since then, court records show.
At the time of the offense, court records continue, Kindred was married.
The Spokane-Review reported some of the student's classmates came forward with accusations Kindred and the boy had been inappropriately messaging through Instagram and he became "defensive when they questioned him about the relationship."
The boy's mother also told deputies she learned her son was having a sex with Kindred and they had been sharing "explicit photos" with each other, the outlet reported. During an interview with police, the boy admitted the pair had sex when her husband was out of town.
Kindred was placed on administrative leave at the school in 2022 and resigned last year, KHQ-TV reported.

Timothy Leroy Lincecum (/ˈlɪnsəkʌm/LIN-sə-kum; born June 15, 1984), nicknamed "The Freak", "The Franchise", "The Freaky Franchise" and "Big Time Timmy Jim", is an American former professional baseball pitcher.
They haven't outright said it, but I know it deep down. Baseball keeps its records, but it also goes forward, moves on. They want Kyle Harrison to be the next Tim Lincecum, but he'll never be. Correction: I don't want him to be. I don't want anyone else to wear the number 55, literally and metaphorically.
Yet in many ways, he'd be a better tim than Tim ever was. Local boy out of high school, younger and stronger and whiter.
Local white boy with straight white teeth and short hair who won't get misdemeanors. Who won't slide down the railings or walk on his hands. Local boy from the high school run by the De La Salle Christian Brothers of the District of San Francisco. A good local boy who will always ice his arm and do what he's told. Who sticks to his meal plans and curated workouts. No foul language on camera. No benders or binges. No dip or chew. A phenom without the freak mechanics, the unorthodox delivery. Without the constant questioning: is he too fragile? too feminine? queer? too good to be true? why is his velocity going down? why isn't he throwing to buster posey? what's wrong? is something wrong? where did the speed go? is it time to worry now? did he lose it? will he ever be good again? will he ever regain his command? was he always meant to fade out? to break? just a spark in the pan? ...... was he a fluke?
Kyle is the future of the Giants. Kyle is the first Giants starter since, Kyle is the youngest Giants pitcher since. kyle is, kyle is, kyle is.
Everyone is excited on social media. Everyone is cheering in the stands. Another strikeout. Nine strikeouts thru four innings. "it's kyle harrison day," I see on my feed. Every five days it was Lincecum day. "Happy Timmy Day." Fans greeted each other going into the ballpark. Teachers told me in class as I wore my jersey. It was what we looked forward to. Sometimes it was all we had. "Happy Timmy Day." Lincecum Day was a sea of 55 inside the ballpark. Any day was a sea of 55. When the stars aligned, he'd be the one I'd get to see during the handful of games I'd attend for the year. The Franchise. The king Freak amongst all the other misfits. It was The House That Bonds Built, but the hearts that Tim won. The community that Tim rejuvenated with his infectious boyish joy and his demanding dominating presence coexisting in that wiry frame. In the stands, I wouldn't breathe. I'd try not to blink. I wouldn't eat while he pitched. It didn't matter the count - I'd cheer and encourage him like I was the only one who could see him, like he could hear me too.
At home, I had my own posters filled with K's. I'd pen in the dates of each strikeout. I'd sit on the floor and hold my breath there too. Echo Kruk's advice as if my voice could still reach him. Could ever reach him.
After two Cy Youngs, I inherited this blog and would write a recap every start. The highs and lows. Then more lows than highs. Then many, many lows. At the end, mostly lows. I couldn't follow him as easily on the Angels. I didn't want to follow him there. Angel red hurt just as much as Dodger blue. And seeing him continue to flounder hurt too much. Because I lived and died over every pitch. Every good start. Every bad start. Every swing and a miss, and every missed pitch. Every blister and bone spur. Every missed start and pulled botched outing. Through more questioning, always questioning: how much fault was the degenerative condition and how much was the mechanics? Who's to blame? His father, who taught him? Rags, who famously left him alone? Himself, for being too stubborn to change? To accept the inevitable? Who's to say? In videos compiled years afterward, "fans" arguing was it worth it, knowing he would fade away? How many "good years" were there? 2007-2011? 2008-2010? Is that it? Is that all you really count? How do you value a player? Even deep in his mechanical funk, he threw two no-hitters. Even falling off, combusting and collapsing, he's still a three-time World Series Champion. Is that really still not "good" enough? More arguments in the comments: do they really count if they're against the same team? against the padres? and should he really have made that 2014 team? He was the only player who wasn't used in the division and championship games. Did he throw too much? Was he pushed too hard? Will we ever know? Why are they so entitled to know?
They want him to be the next 55, but does Kyle need to be? I don't want him to be. On one hand, all the Kyles I've known in my life have disappointed me. Not immediately, but it was always a matter of time. I don't want him to be because Tim will always be. Tim will always be my favorite player, my eternal childhood crush, my sense of awe and wonder. The split-finger change is something I'll never forget. It took my breath away each and every time. It was a small miracle I got to relive for as long as he pitched on the mound. I wish I could have said goodbye, like we did for Zito, for Romo. Like we did for so many other Forever Giants. It didn't have to be for a game. Maybe just an inning. Maybe just a few words before a game. But none of us got official closure. He was there, and then he was gone.
On the mound, another strikeout. Ten strikeouts - "Have a night, kid." It only took him two starts to get to double digits. Another strikeout. Eleven strikeouts total. I'm irrationally bitter about it, irrationally touchy and tender. They want Kyle to be the next Tim - but look where that got Tim. Private Tim put on the pedestal, then hung out to dry. On the other hand, do we expect too much? Do we celebrate and elevate too early? "Tim Lincecum's Greatness Didn't Last." Where's Tim now? And how is he? Headlines of "What Happened to Tim Lincecum?" "What's wrong with Tim Lincecum?" "Where Has Tim Lincecum Been Hiding?" Various journalism bounties for who could get the scope first from the elusive Seattle recluse. But how is he, really? “You got your baseball life, and you kind of detach that and be a regular person," he said in 2018. "That’s the way I always approached it.’’ He never Really retired, not really. Despite the accolades, some of which only three pitchers have achieved across all of the sport, he won't make it into the hall of fame. Won't come back to the ballpark anyway, save once for Boch. Does that still make him a Forever Giant? Does that make him a "bad" Giant? Is he really that much worse than Koufax and Verlander?
from 2018:
“I was battling with that process, constantly wrestling with it,’’ he says, “Do I need to stay in the game? Have I done everything I felt I needed to do? ... The more I thought about it, the more I realized that I care about (baseball) so much. It’s part of my identity. ... Granted, I’ve gone through all of the questions asking myself whether this is worth it. I’ve accomplished a lot, and the accolades are great. It helps you remember parts of the game, how you got there, and who was involved. But it’s hard when you feel like you’re on your way out. You start to have battles with thoughts you never did before. I tried to detach myself to gain perspective. I had a lot of options what to do with the rest of my life, but baseball is all that I’ve known. I want to do whatever I can to keep my career going, no matter how much time I have left in the game. Really, I just want to go out on my own terms.’’
Top of the seventh inning. Kyle Harrison leaves to a thunderous standing ovation. In living rooms behind their screens, more standing ovations. I clap, but I feel empty. "He was spectacular." "He was the story tonight." "A historic performance." I stop. I can't.
6.1 IP 3H 0R 0ER 2BB 11K
It feels like Tim has finally retired. It feels like #55 has finally died. Everyone is giving Kyle a standing ovation, and I am seated and sobbing. Maybe some will argue that Kyle is worthy enough of wearing 55. If that happens, I don't know if I could ever watch his starts in the rotation again. (Un)Happy Harrison day to me. Maybe I'm just the bad Giants fan. I can't help it. It feels like the rug has been swept out from my feet.
The "Former" sticks out in "is an American former professional baseball pitcher." Tim Lincecum is? No, Tim Lincecum was.
#feeling Feelings this game#maybe i'll delete or maybe i won't#i've been personal on here many times#especially when tim was let go#tim lincecum#kyle harrison#sf giants#san francisco giants

Pretend I asked anonymously, it would be funny.
🚨(siren) for Ets (:
🧣(scarf) Professor sonemeir (I need to know more about them)
🍒(cherries) for King Moonjumper (I beg of you)
Who the fuck are you (joking)
🚨(Siren): What’s your character’s relationship with the law? Have they ever been arrested? What for? What are their opinions on law enforcement?
This is the funniest fucking thing you could have picked for Etc holy shit
So I presume you mean AHIT Entropy, which in that case he makes the laws and therefore is above them. The closest thing he has to a law he has to abide by is the agreement with King Moonjumper for the two to stay out of each other's business, which Etc will very gladly follow because they cannot stand interacting.
But I do want to talk about OC Entropy too because it's much funnier. As a god masquerading as a human, ET has to follow a good amount of the laws. He can't run his coffee shop if he's in jail, after all. But as a shapeshifter, he really can do fuckall with the laws. Using various other forms, ET has done everything from minor misdemeanors to full felonies multiple times across multiple timelines. Nowadays, most of the crimes he commits are for shits and giggles and he draws the line at offenses that would harm another person (murder, assault, so on), but as long as no one else is intentionally harmed then he has done it!
Though he doesn't do it much anymore, ET's also violated the Geneva Convention multiple times, via inhumane treatment and torture, biological experimentation, and serious injury under unlawful and unjust means to innocents. After all, who can punish him?
🧣(Scarf): What comforts your oc? Is it an item? An action? A person? Whatever it is, how any why does it comfort them?
Sonemeir,,,,,,
Vince definitely struggles with finding things to comfort him. Unfortunately, time and time again, the things he love tend to have something go wrong and then he associates the bad memories with it. It's like being introduced to a song by someone you were close to who broke your heart and now you can't enjoy the song anymore because all you think of is that.
Despite that, one of Sonemeir's big things is finding joy in the simple. Intentionally ironic for a man who's been involved in groundbreaking technological advances his whole career. I have few scenes of this story planned out in my head, but one in particular is between Paisley and Sonemeir and it's one of their first bonding moments. He's repairing them after some sort of intense situation, and the two are mostly quiet, interrupting the silence now and then with small comments and apologies. I think this moment is the first time in a while where Vince doesn't feel like a piece of shit. He has a pretty strong hatred of anything related to the Creator Models (which Paisley is a prototype of) and has a lot of bad memories attached to working on them, but for once, he doesn't mind this. And he's not sure why this is different, but something about working on one of his projects, completely disconnected from his career, knowing that once he's done he won't have his work taken away and repurposed... it's nice. It brings him a sense of comfort he hasn't felt in ages.
Any sort of tinkering from then onwards is a comfort to Vince. It's something he's familiar with, and it feels good to work on whatever. He builds random-ass shit with no purpose and it's great because it doesn't have to have a purpose. It's just for the heck of it. It's just because he likes it.
I also think he has some leftover trinkets from before Evan died that he hasn't gotten rid of. A lot of things related to Evan's death are touchy for him, and he's tried his best to erase Evan out of his life as a coping mechanism, but Vince has held on to a few things. They still bring him a feeling of comfort, especially after he gets kidnapped loses his job.
Actually, I think the real answer to this question is him losing his job. That's his greatest comfort. Because it's only then when he remembers that the world isn't that bad and that he can do things for himself.
🍒(Cherries): Does your character have a best friend? How long have they known each other? What do they like most about each other? How did they meet?
Noot you have no idea how happy I was to get asked about King Moonjumper on an OC Ask Game. An OC ASK GAME. Omg. You have made my whole-ass night with this.
I barely talk about them within the context of Horalo AU, but I do think Moonjumper and Tranquility are good friends. At least, they get along much better than Moonjumper and Entropy do. TQ is absolutely fascinated by King (in a sopping wet pathetic meow meow sort of way) and King is just glad to have someone in the Horizon he can have a genuine friendship with. They very rarely spend time together, but when they do, they do get along.
I hesitate to say Timmy as well because he and Moonjumper don't have the best relationship, but they are certainly something. Despite it only being a 9-year age gap (which is so fucking funny to think about), Moonjumper sees Timmy as a baby and would determinedly avoid using the word "friend" because he'd think they have too big of an age gap. I think the two really do get along best as a boss/right-hand man relationship (dare I say mentor/student, which is their relationship in Coffee Shop), but Timmy wouldn't hesitate to call King his friend. And King is certainly grateful for the company.
THIS IS YOUR ONLY WARNING TO SCROLL PAST THE REST OF THIS POST. THERE ARE MASSIVE WTSS/HORALO AU SPOILERS FOR THE REST OF THIS RESPONSE.
.
.
.
Okay now for the actual answers
First and foremost, cheesy as fuck answer, but I really do believe King Moonjumper would consider his best friends to be his siblings. They mean the world to him and he loves them so so much that he's willing to risk everything in order to get back to them. Too bad they are fucking dead.
As for pre-Horizon, once again, Juno considers his siblings to be his closest friends. I don't think he was very close to anyone else, since time magic was fairly distrusted and he wanted to make sure himself and his siblings stayed safe, but he definitely had friends. I mean, he was a guy in his twenties once and he certainly acted that way. He knew folks, he knew folks (I have a running bit between myself and myself only of "King Moonjumper's Ex-girlfriend", which I've been sneaking into a lot of non-WTSS Horalo content, including in Rp6), and he had friends besides his siblings. Unfortunately that is not a part of him we ever get to see, so I don't have much of it developed.
I'd like to imagine that he was, at some point, friends with Cirsten Novaue, the woman who would eventually become Audun Horalo's wife. I don't know if he met her before or during her dating Audun, but I know they were fairly close. I really like the idea of Audun meeting her through Juno, but who knows. I just think it's funny that Juno's such good friends with the original concept for Sky's character lmao
#Thanks for the ask!! These were very good questions to answer!#Ahit Horalo AU#Oh my god. Do I need to make a spoilers tag for this#Uh. uh uh uh#WTSS Spoilers#<-Just in case?? I guess???? Not gonna use it much because Noot's the only one who knows the lore so I never talk about it#Project Scepsis OS#OC Professor Sonemeir#ET's Coffee Shop#OC ET Cetera#Since he was mentioned under Etc's response#Marci Answers
