@outsidersweek heres my absurdly late submission for day five!! heres the masterpost for this fic
September 1967
Marcia
The Monday after Bob died, none of her friends went to school. They instead decided to go to Pershing park, trying to find some consolation there. Marcia’s head was buried in Trips' shoulder, their arms wrapping around each other for any sense of comfort they could find. Marcia eventually pulled away from him, and went over to where Cherry was sitting. She and Bev fixed the letterman jacket that was wrapped around the grieving girls’ shoulders and smoothed down her hair as Paul started talking, his eyes filled with a violent anger.
“This can’t be real. He can’t be gone, and I don’t know how we just carry on, this could’ve happened to anyone! But here we are, can’t be undone.”
Cherry stared straight ahead and whispered to herself, “What have we done?”
Paul heard her, and turned to face Cherry, “We were only having fun.”
“You were only having fun?” She responded in disbelief,
“Just hanging out, just horsing ‘round, doing what we’ve always done.”
Cherry stood up, and started walking away from the group. “Bob was drinking, you were drinking too! And tell me what’s so fun about a fight that’s five on two? What’d you think that boy was gonna do, he lived his life scared to death after what you put him through!” Marcia stared at Cherry wide eyed, shocked at what she was saying. No one had ever talked to their friends like that.
“Bob went crazy when he saw you with that greaser kid.” Paul said as he started making his way closer to Cherry, and Marcia ran over to her friend. “You held his hand at the concession stand, we saw it all, you know just what you did!” He accused, as their friends all angrily nodded along with him. Cherry took a step back, fear filling her eyes.
“You guys were loud that night! Out looking for a fight!” Cherry took Marcia’s hand, and Marcia could see Trip shaking his head from the side of her eye. “The two of us just stayed behind, you couldn’t stand to leave those boys alone!”
“You and pony holding hands! I don’t think you understand, Bob was not a jealous man! Cherry what you did that night was wrong.” Bev stepped out for a moment to grab Marcias wrist and tug her into the crowd, away from Cherry. Marcia ripped her arm out of Bevs grasp, before attempting to move towards Cherry again. Paul was standing in front of her though, preventing Marcia from moving away.
“You should be as mad as me at this senseless tragedy! Bob didn’t need to die!!” Paul circled around away from Cherry, going to stand on the fountain as their friends gathered around him, hungry fire in their eyes. Brill came over, glaring at Marcia, before he turned away and went to Cherry. Marcia stared in horror as Brill tried to take Bob's letterman jacket off of Cherrys shoulders, but she flinched back, not letting him any closer. Brill walked away and went to join the rest of their friends who were gathered around Paul.
“The greasers crossed a line! We could sit here asking why, or we could send them back a message! Take an eye for an eye!” Paul declared, to rousing cheers from his friends.
Marcia turned to Cherry, who looked completely horrified. She held her hand out to Marcia so they could leave, and Marcia looked back at her friends. If she left now, Trip might break up with her. Bev would shun her. All of her friends would see her as a traitor. She wanted to move, but her feet stayed planted in place, her eyes trying to communicate to Cherry how sorry she was. Cherry stepped back, her face holding a betrayal and a sorrow that sent shots through Marcia’s heart. She turned around to leave, and Marcia felt violent tears rise up through her throat. When she looked over at her friends she vaguely saw Paul pointing out something, and a fresh wave of horror hit her.
It all happened too fast. Her friends ran at Two-Bit, and she could see the moment he realized what was happening. He tried to run away, but Brill and Chet grabbed his arms and slammed him down onto the concrete. She stepped forward- she had to do something- but she stopped in her tracks when she saw Chet stare her down, a warning in his eyes. Brill was holding Two-Bit down, but Trip was the one who punched him flat across the face. Marcia had never seen Trip like this. She felt sick. Two-Bit went rolling, then got up and ran at Chet, tackling the boy to the ground. Brill and Trip pulled him off and onto his back, and Marcia tried to take another few steps forward. Why couldn't she do anything?? Brill was pinning down Two-Bits arms, and Chet was holding his legs. Paul set his foot on Two-Bits chest, and issued his warning:
“Next saturday night! Pershing park! All out war is officially declared!!” And then Paul forced his entire body weight on Two-Bits chest, before stepping off with a laugh. Trip went down to pin one of Two-Bits arms. Marcias frantic gaze shifted to Bev, who had a vicious grin on her face. She was leaning down to Two-Bit, a light cigarette in hand. Marcia felt lightheaded watching as her friend, her friend, pressed a cigarette to an innocent boy's forehead. The scream that echoed through the park was something that would haunt Marcia until the day she died. Her friends finally let go of the boy, and he rolled onto his stomach. They were all whooping and laughing victoriously, and Marcia vaguely felt Brill take her arm and start to drag her into his car. She was stuffed into the backseat next to Trip. He put his arm around her waist. His knuckles were covered in blood, and he was smiling. He was proud of his hatred and his violence, and he was touching her. The next thing Marcia knew, she was yelling at Brill to stop the car and let her out.
Two-Bit
Everything hurt. His ribs. The burn on his face. The cuts on his face from those boys rings. Two-Bit tried to push down the pain as he slowly crawled to the edge of the park, he had to figure out where to go now. His first thought was the Curtis house, but with everything that those brothers were going through right now, they didn’t need anything else to worry over. Home it was, then. He was just attempting to stand when he heard something behind him. He turned around, ready to fight whoever it was that had come for round 2. But it wasn’t anything like that.
Marcia was standing there, and her face was full of pain. He wondered for a moment if she'd finally decided to join in on her friend's fun, but when he looked into her eyes, he doubted that.
“Hey doll” he rasped, “need something?”
“I want to help.” Marcia choked out.
“That so? Then why didn’t you say so earlier.” He joked, but his words were laced with something more serious.
“I was…” she started, but she cut herself off with a shake of her head. “It doesn’t matter, I’m here now.”
“True enough,” he admitted jokingly,
Marcia looked at him for a moment, then asked, “do you need help getting home?”
Two attempted to take a step so he could prove he was ok, “I’m fi-” he started to say, but he cut himself off when a shooting pain moved through his body. His ribs must be bruised. He wasn’t sure if he could get all the way back home and patch himself up in this state, so he looked up at Marcia and said, “I live a few blocks away. Mind giving me a hand?”
She almost smiled, but her eyes were too full of fear for it to be believable.

just googled how long it takes to die from a stab wound in the abdomen... if you hit the right spot (aorta) you could be unconscious in seconds and gone in minutes.
that being said...... how long do you think it took the soc guys to realize bob was gone, and how long did they stick around after that (if they even stayed that long)
johnny (in the book) says they all scattered when he stabbed him but what does that Mean exactly. i watch those soc boys in the musical, they are Buddies and i need to know how much they saw. and when and why they ran from their friend's dead body
this quote from West Side Story always makes me think of them in this scene; "we left him lyin there... thats botherin me". i need to know how those boys spent that night.

cherry and marcia hcs because I love them so dearly.
they met when they were 6 at a park. cherry was sitting alone on a bench and marcia being afraid of nothing just sat down and started yapping.
Marcia used to be afraid of nothing except for storms. whenever there was a storm she would curl up in the corner of her room and cry.
her parents weren't around much, both working to hard to keep the life they had built so her house was often empty.
cherry having a not so good home environment would spend days upon days at marcias and they would just hang out.
cherry was the quiet popular girl who did her work but when she was at marcias house they would talk the most shit and about drama going around the school.
cherry is really good at doing other people's hair, and it's something she quite enjoys doing. someday, when things get too stressful, Marcia will let Cherry just mess with her hair as they sit in silence or talk about what's bothering her.
Marcia used to roller skate a lot when she was younger but stopped when she reached highschool and started to worry more about her staus.
cherry lowkey hates oranges. she hates anything to do with them while marcia LOVES them.
on the days where they were practicing for rodeos they find a way to fuck with eachother.
they had a game where they had gotten this small little figure and have made it a game to place it somewhere on eachother and whoever has it has to try to get it to the other person without them noticing. the last time they played marcia got it to cherry(I'm gonna come back to this later)
once they reached high school, Cherry had met Bob in her math class. at first they didn't really talk but after being paired together during class they sort of just hit it off.
Marcia and Bob? did NOT hit it off. they started unsure of each other and then turned to them, not liking each other.
there was one day where bob and marcia had ended up alone waiting for the rest of there friends and marcia got to see the true version of bob Sheldon that had been pushed down deep.
he had started talking about the stars, going into detail about the ones he knew and how important they were to him. no matter what changed in his life or the little amount of actual love he got from his family they stayed a constant. a reminder that there were nice things that even he could see.
Marcia before would have never expected it from someone like him but it made her look at him with a different light. only for a little while because that was the only time she had ever seen that side of him. after that he went back to the bob Sheldon she had known. the bob Sheldon who hated her just as much as she hated him.
Marcia was considered a weird girl who was simply friends with Cherry Valance. that didn't bother her much up until that point.
Marcia hated how Bob treated Cherry like some sort of trophy. Cherry had always told her that he wasn't like that and that he was real kind and she didn't need to worry.
the weeks when Cherry would spend hours at Marcias turned into just a few days, focusing her time on Bob which didn't hurt Marcia.
she understood that a d she respected it. she spent most of her time with bev, brill, and trip. she learned a lot with them and learned that something were better kept hidden than out.
her parents had very different ways of thinking. her father grew up with a single father who didn't have much taught her to fit in and roam with the crowd because that's how you got successful while her mother grew up with a rich family who was cold and uncaring. she taught marcia to stick up for herself and to trust those who are her true friends.
Marcia often battled between what her parents wanted her to be. she wants to make her father proud, but she doesn't want to disappoint her mother, who always taught her to be kind and true to herself.
reaching highschool she learned real quick between the difference of social class and how she needed to fit in if she wanted to make it to graduation.
Bev had told her that she needed to stop "acting so weird, you'll never get someone if you act like that," and marcia had laughed in her face then. Bev, that day, wasn't too happy with her, nearly cost her the spot she had within the small group. she learned that day to take most things with a smile and that things would be easier if she just kept others happy.
Cherry had been spending time with Bob, the nights where they both just needed to escape from their lives, the would drive Bob's car out to a reserved place and just look at the stars.
the first time Bob got real drunk she had freaked the fuck out because she would not be with someone who ended up like her father.
he the next day had showed up at her house with flowers and with an apology. she practically melted into his arms after she explained to him why she had freaked. he had promised that it wouldn't happen again, though he never kept that promise, leading to her snapping at the nightly double.
Cherry post cannon distanced herself from all the socs for the most part. she only really stayed connected to chet and somewhat marcia.
the two grew apart for a little bit as Marcia battled with the pressure of her parents and with the ideas of social class.
one night marcia just completing broke down in front of her parents. they talked for hours after that, working through their problems and how she had been feeling. her parents had always loved her, she knew that but her father rarely showed any emotion and her mother too busy fighting with her own family to realize how her own family was falling apart.
the next day Marcia asked Cherry to talk and they did. Marcia apologized from practically everything that had happened andthey both made a promise to be better, to talk things out no matter how they felt.
that's all I have rn but please feel free to add in the comments or in my inbox 🙏 also trust I'm just feeding yall until I finish this fic.

Bob who has good parents but still never wants to be like his father because his father is a sleazy business man with a drinking problem. and Bob who is out of control because his parents are too trusting and let him do whatever. Bob who takes such good care of his boys and tells them off for doing something dangerous because deep down he wants to give them what he never had. Chet who hates going home because his parents are obsessed with perfection and constantly punish him for stupid reasons. Chet who has to remind himself to breathe before entering his own home. Chet who enters football practice with bruises on his wrists and back, brushing off Bob's concern saying it was a little fight with a greaser. Bob and Chet both knowing hes lying but too proud to tell the truth. Trip who has extremely loving parents who made him really sheltered when he was a kid. Trip who was initially horrified by the other boys but eventually numbed and lost his innocence listening to their dirty jokes and swearing. Trip who feels the need to be tougher than the other boys and brush off his old identity. Trip who feels eternally guitly because he loves his parents but now hes in too deep to change. Brill who loves his parents dearly and constantly chases their approval but never quite gets it. Brill who fades his voice out of conversations when he realises no one is actually listening to him. Brill who can never quite escape the feeling of being 9 years old and trying to show his parents a cool rock but getting no response other than "hm." and Brill who is genuinely scared to go home because his mind tells him that one day his parents will snap and just stop loving him all together. all the soc boys pretending to each other that everything is totally fine because thats what they are. Completely and utterly fine. Soc boys arent supposed to feel. Theyre strong and deal with their problems alone. all the socs boys desperately wanting help but never getting it

chet hcs !!!!
posted most of these on tiktok originally
,, he's the youngest out of the soc boys (and the youngest in his family)
,, first one of group he met was trip, and first one he actually became friends with was brill
,, dude LOVESSS root beer + cream soda. will actually fight you if you say coke or pepsi is better.
,, his bedroom is either a complete mess or there's like. Nothing in there.
,, liked cherry for a whileee but didn't realize it til after she got with bob, and it was obviously too late for him to do anything about it so he just tried to focus on other things (it worked. Mostly.)
,, sergei and melvin have this weird one-sided hatred towards him, so whenever chet goes to trip's place, the two of them are just glaring at him
,, definitely has some sort of family issues.
,, was born in march (i am confident about this one, he just gives off march birthday vibes idk)
,, failed his driver's test like twice
,, either he's a complete trainwreck when he's drunk or it's the only time his thoughts really flow smoothly
,, cherry will mention liking a song once, and all of a sudden chet just happens to own the album that that one song is on
