we are sleeping on alex joseph grayson as dally I fear. cannot stop thinking about this guy. vocals? phenomenal. stage presence? yes. it's the way he plays dally like he's 17 for me (which yes is book canon age but stick with me) - like what do you mean this kid is so idolized by johnny and ponyboy that he has to make a plan to keep them ahead of the cops and then when johnny is all "yeah no we're going back" he just doesn't know what else to do? i feel like others have played dally really frustrated in that scene but alex dally just seemed so desperate. the musical especially sets up this parallel between darrel and dally and the way alex does it makes you go right, these are both just kids trying to act like adults because there's nobody else. i'm sick about it.

a little voice in my head told me "soda and steve as socs would just be kurt and ram" and i sat there awkwardly with the phone in my hand and said to that little voice "yeah... you're so right..."

in retrospect kurt and ram & soda and steve have absolutely no personality correlations whatsoever and have no similarities to make them be the same guys in different fonts, but alas i couldn't resist

i get not liking it (i personally love it)— but ponyboy and johnny are two of the most queer coded characters i have ever seen in my ENTIRE life— and not even just in the musical, i could pick out little things from ALL the media.

i could talk about this for literally hours as to why they're best friends yes; but maybe something more.

- terrible cook. calls himself a chef, but will burn food and insist it’s supposed to be that way.

- paul tried to be there for him after his parent’s death, but he was angry, tired, and emotional, and it only ended in a screaming match.

- really good at math.

- double jointed.

- taught himself how to sew, so he could mend the boys’ clothes and save money.

- has a hard time celebrating any birthday after his parents died on his, but makes sure the boys know they’re loved on theirs.

- nail biter.

- hates being alone with his thoughts, so secretly loves when the gang invades the house.

- will say he’s not interested in pony’s movies or books in attempt to keep pony grounded, but really tries to learn as much as he can about things pony loves.

- has SOOO many useless skills.

- often sits by his parents’ bedside and has a cry because he’s constantly worried he’s not good enough for pony and soda.

- EXTREMELY sarcastic.

- bonus: soda literally cannot tell when he’s being sarcastic, and it’s gotten him into trouble so many times. darry gets pissed but can’t even yell because it’s entirely his fault.

- reflects pony’s “why does he hate me?” notion and believes ponyboy hates him. it eats him alive somedays.
