as sad as Johnny’s death makes me, it helps to remember that he died doing what he loved: saying cryptic, gay as fuck things to Ponyboy

Why did I never realize that when Ponyboy introduces everyone in the musical, it’s all in present tense, except for Dally who he introduces by saying “every Wolfpack has its alpha, and ours WAS Dally”

ppl saying the outsiders is only popular bc young girls think the actors are hot is so deeply and sincerely misogynistic and it boggles me how much people hate women and young girls. god

there's men crying guys pls ☹️
I have this friend who always says they dont wanna listen/read/watch the outsiders because there are too many men in it. It always makes me go kinda insane cuz like… please yall its ok if something is about men!! Stories talking about masculinity in this way are actually hella important and also like- the fact that its about men and has a largely male cast doesnt make it bad?????? Like what???????? Gah it just infuriates me

I'm not crying at the fact that during Little Brother. The gang is comforting each other and they try to comfort Dallas, but he flinches away from their touch. He was loved more than he knew but was blinded by grief.

Anyways, so I wanna talk about Steve in the preview boot of The Outsiders Musical.
When Johnny goes silent after telling Pony to "Stay Gold," he quickly hits Darrys chest when he realises he's died, as if he doesn't believe what's happening and needs Darry to prove it to him.
you can barely see, but here's screenshot proof:
Following this, he stands on his own for a bit with his hands together. I've personally headcanoned for a while that this was him, hoping, praying even that Johnny wasn't dead. Praying to whoever was up there that this was some sick joke, and he was only after falling asleep. Johnny's only a year younger than Steve, and he can not believe that something like this could just...happen as quick as that.
During the line, "They want us out of town," Steve tries to go and comfort Dally, only for him to snap back at him, Steve quickly flinching back.
After this, we don't see Steve for the rest of the scene, but I personally believe that this is when he just fell back into some sort of toxic masculinity mindset.
We know that his father is an abusive prick who'd probably give out if Steve ever cried, telling him, "Men don't cry." It's the 60s in America, which wasn't exactly the most open space of all time.
Dally snapping back at him could've reminded him of that. That he wasn't "meant" to be crying since that's not a masculine thing to do.
This is also just a little note but God, I do not know what it is, but he looks so young in this scene. He looks smaller than everybody else- it really reminds you that this character is only seventeen. Still quite a young teenager.
Obviously, this is all just me digging far too deep into Renni's background acting, and nothing is canon. But I still think it's fun to think about. :]
