#3 - Nightwing chapter

The Jade Mountain Nightwing chapter, also known as "the part where Mightyclaws carries the entire weight of the Quartz winglet's canon characterization by himself". There are a bunch of wacky headcanons that have snuck their way on here. Shout-out to the deliberation on Nightwing powers by my partner @flamebringer0.

Do you think Mindreader's parents thought they were being soooo smart and planning ahead when they named her?

Like "Fuck yeah, NOBODY'S gonna mess with her if they're so sure she can read their minds!"

And then the NightWings were exposed, and they were probably like "....fuck, now she's gonna be stuck with that stupid ass name for the rest of her life."

(Sidenote: It's kind of funny how Moon was the first NightWing in 2,000 years to have either of those powers, and SHE wasn't even named accordingly like so many other NightWings.)

Mindreader the Nightwing

so sorry for Morrowseer... he was an advisor for the queen and met a fiery end, but if he existed in real life, he would have been that type of person who's been complaining about his horrid work-life balance for the past 5 years and has around 6 hours of sleep a night, makes Moon's blood pressure shoot up from merely existing in the same space as her mother (usually Morrowseer stays in the living room and Secretkeeper watches Netflix off her phone at max volume in the kitchen) but it's okay because they're keeping the marriage together until their only child turns old enough and leaves the house. Also drops comments about IceWings and SandWings and RainWings while Moon slumps in her seat and stares awkwardly while refusing to think about the very real people who flashed through her mind. He's also on medication for something and has one of those middle aged male afflictions that he'll have until the day he dies. We suspect that his genetics'll take him out in 30 years. Unfortunately, his sacrifices have done much for the family and Moon still feels guilty as he gripes about it. Still makes Moon feel like garbage when he compares her to all the other NightWing kids in the neighborhood, whose coursework, GPAs, and extracurriculars he knows in detail from all that NightWing parent gossip (he's still clowning on Farsight for letting Fierceteeth go to the community college). Also says something to Moon that will affect her psyche for years and then yells at her for being clearly affected by having a parent like him.

Wings of Fire Design Project #57 - Mindreader of the Nightwings

wof headcanon: One of the moons amplifies nightwing abilities, and both Clearsight and Darkstalker were born under it. Clearsight gained stronger future sight, and Darkstalker gained stronger future sight and mindreading but his future sight isn't as strong as Clearsight's because the amplification effect was spread out between his two abilities.

That means that in theory, some nightwings are born with stronger mindreading capabilities. This is why Darkstalker is shown to have more ease getting into dragons' thoughts that they don't want mindreaders to access. What do you think a dragon with mindreading even stronger than him could do, and how would this affect them?

Little headcanon because I’m confused and I like to fill in plot-holes with random stuff that interests me:

Mind reading NightWings have a teardrop scale under each eye. Seers have a faint silver diamond on their foreheads. Dragons with empathy powers have a small teardrop next to their eyes and more irregular ‘stars��� on their body, like FateSpeaker and her bracelet-like silver freckles. Dragons with unpredictable seer powers like Whiteout and Comet have black diamonds on their faces and foreheads. Dragons born with blood-moon powers have a red tint to their scales and have red irises. They also have a silver streak down their face instead of a teardrop that looks like a stream of tears. (Because I love angst y’know.) Hybrids can be, and often are, born with NightWing powers, especially if the NightWing gene comes from their mother- genes in WoF are canonically matriarchal, and I headcanon the powers as being a dominant gene. Here's my three NightWing babs-! From left to right, it's Duskwings, Flittermouse, and Soonseer-! I might add another part to this because I want to add a bit of depth so their faces don't blend into each other's dark scales, but ye-! Duskwings and Soonseer are brother-sister from the same hatching, with Dusk getting mindreading and Soon getting foresight. Flittermouse is a friend that they grew up with in the wingery and school, and she's just a normal cinnamon roll. I could ramble on and on about these three, lol, but ye here you go-! Some new art finally, lol

do you need to know anything about wof to get this? probably. will i explain? probably not. just skim the wiki for a while the lore is very interesting. i mean i could explain it since ive reread the whole series a little over 7 times but. shhh.

i have put FAR too much thought into how specifically to adapt ace attorney into wof lore. like i have 6 pages of notes going over all of my thoughts you have no idea how much i brainrot over this shit
