SONIC X WINGS OF FIRE: WHAT IF. . . SONIC AND THE GANG WERE DRAGONS IN WINGS OF FIRE?! I haven't seen this done before, so I'm hopping on this IMMEDIATELY-

OK OK so bear with me: SONIC in this verse is a forbidden rainwing and icewing hybrid. This is partly so I can give him his iconic colors (rainwing part) and partly so I can still keep his hedgehog spikes (icewing part) YES, I named him after the show sonic boom, ITS SO FUNNY GO WACH I also gave him some accessories from the show because they did so good on the accessories like, WHAT?! Anywho, I also recommend watching the new Sonic movies to ANYONE. They're awesome

Backstory: So, in this AU, Sonic grows up in the rainwing kingdom, and there's a place where he made his home with fewer trees that he calls green hills EH? EH? GET IT? jk jk he grows up with the rainwings (because the rainwings are chill with it ig) and gains a carefree personality like his counterpart. As a dragonett He finds another little orange rainwing dragonett that was being bullied by the others because he had polymlia (two tails) he scared off the bullies and learned the little rainwing's name was millipede, but the others just called him tails (EH? EH? SEE WHAT I DID?! MILLIPEDE INSTED OF MILES?! JKJK XD) The two were inseparable from then on! Eventually, getting into all kinds of shenanigans, the end

How to Spot a Dragon Before it Spots You!

(Written by a human for humans in the Wings of fire universe).

I was inspired by a bird of prey identification poster at my sister's school. It had a very similar layout. I really loved the coloured poses and the multiple silhouettes and thought it would work so well for the Wings of Fire dragons. I'd seen another artist experiment with their wings shapes and wanted to give it a try myself. This is the result! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

All the designs you see here are not final - I drew these without properly planning their full bodies, but the final versions I will try to keep as similar as possible. The only change I might make is the position of their wings. I also won't go back and change this because it doesn't need it. They look good enough like this and, who knows, the changes I make might not be enough that the final designs would be any different. I will be doing a lot of muscle and skeletal anatomy, possibly written in the perspective of a NightWing since they seem like the type to explore the insides of a dragon for science.

This, however, is written in the perspective of a very lucky human who saw these dragons and lived to tell the tale. Or maybe it was a collaborative effort between multiple people adding their own wisdoms, like the Dragon Manual in HTTYD 1. I haven't read Dragonslayer but I think they refer to the dragons as '[element] dragon' (not [Element]Wing at least). I also think that they're not sure RainWings exist (at least according to the 'Here Be Dragons?' over the rainforest, but I didn't want to exclude them from this piece).

The main purpose this guide would serve in-universe would be to help humans identify dragons, preferably before ever being seen. That's why I used a lot of auditory and movement descriptions unique to each tribe, ways that a person could identify a dragon without needing to be close.

I'll be splitting the closeups into 3 and 4 tribes each following this post so you're not scrolling for 10 years (you still will be but I'll try to keep it brief. Will I succeed? No!

Tribal variations (headcanon): part 1(?)

Icewings

The tribes live on quite large territories, and I think that within them there are different variations that differ in mentality and colours. Decided to start with icewings! I hope I will continue to do this. Who would you like to see next: skywings, seawings or leafwings?

Well, I did it

Megatron - I love his tfp design. Probably one of the best iteration of Megs. He is huge, heavy armoured, his face covered with scars… He doesn’t looks like an ordinary military leader who is only capable of giving orders, but like real warrior who can destroy any enemy with his bare hands.

So, in the WOF version, he definitely shares some features with Princess Burn, not only because of his might, but also because of his horns shape and dirty-dark scales (that absorbed blood of his enemies)

Starscream - Boy, I hate him so much 🤣… but in the good way, trust me! In my opinion, when the show's creators make you feel such strong negative emotions towards a villain, it means they've done a great job. Also, I think that his animation in the show was absolutely incredible, because even though he's a 3D model, he still manages to move like a 2D character, which is amazing!

I feel that in my design he still looks more like a skywing, than an icewing (which is kinda logical)

Soundwave - This one was tricky. I couldn't figure out what his mask would look like, so I just made his face a really dark color. I think Soundwave has both gifts of the nightwings, and he’s equally great at telepathy and a future vision. So he doesn't really need equipment to predict enemy movements, which makes him an ideal communicator in the WOF setting. His Laserbeak is part of the armor enchanted by Shockwave, and it might also allow him to open portals (but I'm not sure with this one)

Shockwave - My favourite evil genius. He would definitely have animus magic and mind reading. I think Shockwave is the only one who has advanced the study of magic so far, precisely because he combined it with scientific knowledge and created safer methods of using it, that don't damage the mind. It's like if a Mastermind got animus magic in books.

I also like to think that he didn't heal the damaged part of his face just so that his enemies would fear him more)

Dreadwing - This man deserved better! It's really a shame that he was removed from the show so quickly due to financial problems. It would be great if his arc got a proper conclusion in season 3.

Considering that I didn't want to make him a hybrid, it was difficult to choose a suitable color palette. So let’s just say, that I tried my best😅

I don’t think that he would have any nightwing powers, but honestly it doesn’t even matter - this guy can make a bombs, what else does he need to be cool

Arachnid - Did anyone even doubt that she would be a hivewing? Damn, she even got her own “Othermind” virus. Her design was the easiest to work with - just a little poisonous ass (suspiciously similar to Maleficent).

Just like Starscream, I hate her, but in a good way. She's one of the creepiest characters in the entire series, who’s acting like a fucking heartless monster, especially with Arcee, but even so, there's always was something mesmerizing about her. I just really like strong female villains

Knockout - Wery bright and charismatic guy, definitely one of my fav cons!

I tried to draw him as handsome as possible. Worked a lot on the face shape and coloring, and as for me it turned out pretty nice (finally).

Most decepticons think Knockout is as stupid and lazy as all the other rainwings. And it's not like he completely disagrees with that. Of course he’s not stupid and lazy, but if it’s means less dirty work on the battlefield, well, he’ll continue act like a tipical rainwing

(I also believe that Megatron keeps him as an “art”)

Breakdown - Fun fact: "Operation Breakdown" was the very first thing I saw in this series. And it was an interesting experience for 8 year old me. Maybe that's why I'm so scared of eye gouging scenes in movies now…

I think that he didn't have any siblings initially due to his parents nature, and even after meeting Bulkhead, he felt uncomfortable among the other mudwings. And this is why he later chose the side of the decepticons. And maaaaybe because of one cute rainwing influence)

P.s.

I think that, being mostly nightwings and icewings, the decepticons are much more concerned about purity of their blood and rarely accept half-breeds into their ranks.

During the war, there were many animus dragons among decepticons, which is why they have so many artifacts that allowed teleportation and communication at a distance. But, honestly, I still can't imagine what Nemesis would look like in this AU

I have never read the graphic novels but I stumbled upon this image and omg it's actually so sad.

He looks so sad and confused as to why any dragon would have a toy that is just for fun and to make them happy. What's even sadder is that he thinks it serves no purpose but he doesn't understand that the purpose is to make a dragonet happy and since he doesn't understand that he sees the toy as having no value. Tui and Milke Holmes why must you do this to me I can't I can literally see him reflecting on his own childhood and wondering why he never had something like this.

More spikes antlers, sharpen face, and a cruel look. All Icewings are more regal, having their society be more advanced then even the Hivewings. Their are no poor or homeless Icewings

Next are the Nightwings.

Their spikes have become more sharpen, their horns now each having a unique spiral design, and a less rounded face. Those born under one moon have a star tear drop, future visions have a star upon the center of their head and both when born under two moons and three moons. Nightwings love to also decorate themselves with color frost burning, jewelry, and color dyes.
