Today is Ash Wednesday. The start of Lent, a period of forty-six days (forty when Sundays are excluded) that commemorates the time Jesus spent in the desert prior to beginning his public ministry on earth. Christians are encouraged to give up something during this time and do more fasting, praying, alms-giving etc People often see these days as a dreary exercise of giving up' rather than understanding what's behind it. It's not sacrifice that we are called to but discipline. Focus on adding good habits/ practices or going deeper into those we already have. So we need to see Lent as an opportunity to grow deeper. This Lent, I'm hoping to grow deeper in love - for God, myself, my partner, those in my circle and the world at large. I see my love showing in spending more time, listening to understand and being a comforting and encouraging presence for others. Towards myself, I will be kinder, less judgemental and allow myself to spend more time in being rather than in doing. #healin2023 #wordoftheyear #woty2023 #hopewriterlife #mindfulwalking #mindfulness #365in2023 #everydaygratitude #everydaygyaan #writebravely https://www.instagram.com/p/Co8xgwDSsKZ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

How Much Is Too Much Walking In A Day |Expert Tips for Safe Limits
How Much Walking Is Too Much? Expert Tips for Safe Limits
Walking is often hailed as one of the simplest and most effective forms of exercise. It’s low-impact, requires no equipment, and boasts numerous health benefits—from improving cardiovascular health to enhancing mental well-being. But can you overdo a good thing?
How much walking is too much, and where should you draw the line? In this article, we’ll explore expert tips for finding safe limits, delve into the risks of excessive walking, and provide actionable advice for a balanced walking routine.
Health Benefits of Walking
Physical Health
Cardiovascular Health – Walking, like other forms of exercise, increases your heart rate, strengthens your heart, and helps improve blood circulation. This minimizes the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
Weight Loss – If you walk every day and want to lose weight, along with maintaining a healthy diet, you’ll be able to see a change on the scale within a few weeks. It’s best to walk before eating as it activates your body, allowing nutrients to be directed more efficiently to your muscles.
Muscle and Bone Strengthening—Like any physical activity, walking helps strengthen the muscles that are most engaged and your bones. This can help prevent various bone problems and is an excellent way to stay in shape!
Mental Health
Well-being – Walking is freedom. It’s liberating. Stress has no place during these precious moments. You forget about your problems for a while, feel good, and be in perfect harmony with yourself. Walking provides an incredible sense of well-being, especially outdoors, in nature, on a small trail, in the mountains, in the forest…
Self-esteem – Walking is also about setting goals. Whether you want to walk faster, longer, or take fewer breaks, throughout the weeks, you can track your progress, the distance you have covered, and the milestones you have achieved. And that’s no small feat. You’ll see that yes, you are capable of achieving great things. You start at the bottom of the mountain, but one day you will reach its summit.
Brain Boost – By walking, you increase your heart rate, which brings more blood, oxygen, and nutrients to your brain, allowing it to function optimally. But that’s not all, walking has positive impacts on concentration, memory, and learning. It not only boosts your abilities but also helps prevent a variety of cognitive disorders, such as Alzheimer’s disease.

Mindful Walking: Take a leisurely walk and pay attention to each step you take. Feel the ground beneath your feet and the movement of your body. This can help bring your awareness to the present moment.
Meditation: Set aside a few minutes each day to sit quietly and focus on your breath or a mantra. Matthew Danchak suggests that regular meditation can help improve focus, reduce anxiety, and enhance overall well-being.

What is mindfulness?
Mindfulness is a mental practice that involves focusing your attention on the present moment in a non-judgmental manner. It's about being fully engaged in whatever you're doing, without being reactive or overwhelmed by external or internal events that can divert your attention.
Here are some key aspects of mindfulness:
Present Moment Awareness: Mindfulness emphasizes staying present and fully participating in the current moment, rather than ruminating about the past or worrying about the future.
Non-judgment: It encourages observing your thoughts and feelings without labeling them as good or bad. Instead of reacting to these thoughts or feelings, you just notice them.
Acceptance: Mindfulness involves recognizing things as they are, without trying to change them. This doesn't mean resignation or apathy, but rather observing things without resistance.
Observation: A cornerstone of the practice is to attentively observe your own thoughts, emotions, and sensations without getting caught up in them.
Non-attachment: This means not getting overly attached to particular outcomes or experiences, but instead letting things come and go naturally.
Beginner's Mind: Mindfulness promotes approaching life with the curiosity and wonder of a beginner, as if experiencing things for the first time.
The practice of mindfulness can be cultivated through various means, including but not limited to:
Mindfulness Meditation: This involves sitting in a quiet place and bringing your full attention to your breath, body sensations, or a particular object. When your mind wanders (and it will), you gently bring it back to the present moment.
Body Scan: This is a form of meditation where you mentally scan your body from head to toe, observing sensations without judgment.
Mindful Eating: Eating slowly and savoring each bite, while fully experiencing the taste, texture, and smell of the food.
Mindful Walking: Walking slowly and deliberately, paying attention to every step and the sensation of movement and touch.
Regular mindfulness practice has been linked to numerous benefits, including reduced stress, improved concentration, better emotional regulation, increased self-awareness, and even improvements in physical health. Research has shown its effectiveness in treating various conditions, such as anxiety, depression, and chronic pain.

Something happened early this morning in response to my post here yesterday. Something unpleasant. Another attempt at deviousness. If I needed any confirmation that I was on the right path, I got it today. As I write my Morning Pages, I start to wonder about something. While I am cutting myself off from my family, do I unconsciously also act like these people? Is there such a thing as emotional genetics? This is something I really need to look into. I don't want to do to others what has been done to me. And yet I might be doing just that. More research, reflection and prayer and honesty above all, is what I need to answer my own question. Working on oneself takes a lifetime, no? #healin2023 #wordoftheyear #woty2023 #hopewriterlife #mindfulwalking #mindfulness #365in2023 #everydaygratitude #everydaygyaan #writebravely https://www.instagram.com/p/Cp__LK4yVRq/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
